ABSTRACT Rural Extension has a long history as a discipline of the Faculty of Agronomy of the "Universidad de la República", in Uruguay. The case study of this work is the experience of the course "Comunicación y Extensión Rural", which has been taking place since 2012 involving students both from Communication and of Agronomic Engineering careers. The pedagogical proposal integrates the three university functions (teaching, research, extension) into one single teaching core, embracing the territorial focus and the interdisciplinary perspective as a model for approaching social reality. The evaluative research analyzes the course's pedagogical proposal (2021 and 2022 editions), and the application of the methodologies and participatory tools used (critical workshop, diagnoses with a territorial approach, social cartography and preparation of proposals for rural development projects). In dialogue with inhabitants of the rural municipality of Los Cerrillos (department of Canelones), the teaching-learning processes developed throughout the two editions of the course are discussed. The conclusions affirm the central role of the critical workshop in the pedagogical proposal and highlight the challenges of the dialogue between different knowledge and disciplines, generating possible synergies between institutions and rural actors.

Abstract Antimicrobial resistance is a threat to the achievements of modern medicine and one of the most effective measures to counteract it is antimicrobial use optimization programs (AMS), in which the microbiology laboratory is one of the main components. The effective application of information technology in the processes is fundamental, but there is little information in Latin America on the development and articulation of technological tools to support AMSs. This consensus makes recommendations on the management of microbiological data for decision making. In Part I, recommendations on the use of a computerized microbiological data management system in clinical practice, data and reporting requirements in the microbiology laboratory, as well as the contents of the advanced quality management system in the laboratory are presented. In Part II, the information requirements for AMS management in intermediate, initial, and advanced stages by the laboratory and pharmacy are discussed; as well as the integration of the AMS team with the Infection Prevention and Control Committee and the information for AMS management at the management level.

ABSTRACT The resistance of a weed to a herbicide may be accompanied by an ecological disadvantage, which can hinder the establishment of resistant biotypes when the herbicide is not used. The aim of this study, therefore, was to evaluate the growth and phenology of two biotypes of Raphanus raphanistrum, one susceptible and the other resistant to ALS inhibitors. The research was carried out from August to December 2020, conducting two simultaneous experiments, with the susceptible and resistant biotypes grown as single crops or together with wheat. The parameters under evaluation were plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, shoot dry weight, growth rate, leaf area ratio, net assimilation rate, and phenology - determined using the BBCH scale. The results showed not only that development and growth in the sensitive biotype was greater compared to the resistant biotype, but also the precocity of the biotype. The only variable for which the resistant biotype was superior was root dry weight. Cross-resistance to ALS inhibitors resulted in a difference in the growth and phenology of the resistant biotype that should be better evaluated, as the populations present large genetic differences. disadvantage used study therefore raphanistrum 2020 experiments wheat height leaves weight rate ratio scale Crossresistance Cross evaluated differences 202 20 2

ABSTRACT. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the dietary effect of an enzymatic complex on the growth performance variables, blood parameters, and economic viability of piglets. To achieve this, we used 80 piglets (40 castrated males and 40 females) in a 2 × 2 factorial design following a randomized block experimental distribution, with two levels of metabolizable energy (adequate: 3206.09 and low: 3005.45 kcal kg-1) and two enzyme levels (0 and 50 g ton-1). The results showed no significant difference between treatments in the growth performance variables or blood parameters of piglets. The economic viability, economic efficiency index, and cost index were improved when we used a diet with a low energy supplemented with the enzyme complex as compared to other experimental diets. Thus, we concluded that enzyme complex supplementation can maintain growth performance and blood parameters in piglets even when they are fed low energy diets. Moreover, this could reduce production costs. Abstract Pitaya production has been expanding in several regions of Brazil despite the lack of technical information on plant management. To obtain good crop productivity, weed control is essential; however, the use of herbicides can cause phytotoxicity and reduce plant growth and production. Thus, the present work aimed to evaluate the tolerance of red (Selenicereus polyrhizus) and white (S. undatus) pitaya seedlings to different herbicides applied after emergence. Two experiments were installed, one with red pitaya and the another with white pitaya, on August 15, 2020 in the Fruit Production Sector of the Federal University of Lavras. Experiments were arranged in a randomized block design, with four and three replicates, respectively, eight treatments and three plants per plot in both experiments. Treatments consisted of control, fomesafen, ammonium glufosinate, glyphosate, clethodim, carfentrazone-ethyl, imazethapyr and chlorimuron. Visual phytotoxicity symptoms were evaluated at 7, 14, 21 and 28 days after herbicide application. At 30 and 60 days after application, percentage of necrosis, cladode length and number of new shoots were evaluated. Herbicide fomesafen caused greater damage to red pitaya seedlings and fomesafen and glyphosate caused greater damage to white pitaya seedlings. For both pitaya species, herbicide clethodim can be an alternative for controlling narrow-leaf weeds without causing visual damage to the growth and development of pitaya plants. management productivity essential however Thus Selenicereus polyrhizus S. Abstract High infestations of epibiont ciliates on vertebrates or invertebrates are normally related to aquaculture tanks or similar environments, and the importance of this relationship in natural habitats is often disregarded. Here, we describe the first record of high infestation of ciliates on Aegla serrana in South America and conduct a brief morphological and phylogenetic characterization of these ciliates. Our findings confirm that cases of high infestation of ciliates on metazoans can indeed occur in natural environments. environments disregarded Here

The main objective of this paper is to produce an anodic layer of TiO2 rich in calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium using the anodizing technique known as micro-arc oxidation (MAO) on the Ti-25Ta alloy together with the incorporation of silver (Ag), copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) metallic ions using different electrolytes. The structural changes and microstructures on the MAO surfaces were analyzed using the X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The chemical composition to verify whether silver, copper, and zinc were incorporated via energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS) and surface characteristics such as wettability and hardness of the coatings were also investigated. From the EDS mapping results, it is observed that the MAO process was effective in incorporating the ions present in the electrolyte. Regarding X-ray diffraction patterns, the TiO2 phases formed in the Ti-25Ta alloy has a mixture of anatase and rutile, making the MAO surface hydrophilic. The Ag element surface is thicker than the films containing Cu and Zn, as the Ag ions have high electrical conductivity, accelerating the oxidation process during surface treatment. Regarding hardness, coating containing Cu have a higher hardness value. Ti alloys have been developing through the years, aiming the biomedical application since it has suitable properties. Among Ti alloys, the Ti-Nb systems are a pronounced group to biomedical applications due to its low elastic modulus, good corrosion resistance, and mechanical properties. Although this system is quite well-known regarding its phases, structure and properties, there is not plenty of information about wear available in the literature. To investigate the wear resistance, the samples were submitted to x-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) to analyze the phases formed. Hardness and elastic modulus were measured by microhardness Vickers and dynamic Young modulus by excitation impulse. Additionally, wear volume, wear resistance, and H/E ratio were calculated to understand the wear material’s performance. This study aims to investigate the wear resistance of Ti-xNb (x = 15, 25 and 40wt.%), one of each type of Ti alloys and phases formed: Ti-15Nb (α´), Ti-25Nb (α”) and Ti-40Nb (β) and the influence of cooling rate after solution heat treatment on wear properties through ball cratering. It was possible to find that the harder the alloy, the higher the wear resistance. Thus, in the case of Ti-xNb (x = 15, 25 and 40wt.%), alloys the hardness plays a significant role in wear resistance. Besides that, the samples that have presented the α´ or α”phase have the lowest wear resistance. Therefore, not only the hardness influences the wear resistance but also the combination of phases formed. years TiNb Nb wellknown well known literature xray x ray XRD (XRD SEM (SEM formed impulse Additionally volume HE H E materials material s performance TixNb xNb 15 2 40wt.%, 40wt wt 40wt.% , 40wt.%) Ti15Nb 15Nb α´, α (α´) Ti25Nb 25Nb (α” Ti40Nb 40Nb β (β cratering alloy Thus αphase phase Therefore 1 40wt. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT Introduction: it is estimated that approximately 20 million people undergo inguinal hernia surgery annually in the world, with the Lichtenstein technique being the most performed surgical procedure. The objective of this study is to analyze the knowledge of the technical principles used in the Lichtenstein technique. Method: Survey-type intersectional study approved by the research ethics committee of São Camilo University Center (CAAE: 70036523.1.0000.0062). During the research period, 11,622 e-mails were sent to members of the main national surgical societies with research on the technical principles of Lichtenstein surgery. The survey was carried out using an electronic form with 10 multiple-choice questions. The form was answered anonymously on the SurveyMonkey and Google Forms platforms. Result: 744 responses were received to the electronic form. Based on this number of respondents, our survey has a confidence level of 95% with a margin of error of 3.5%. It was observed that there is no standardization of the technique among the majority of responders (53.4%). Many surgeons still perform digital dissection of the spermatic cord (47%). A small number of interviewees (15.2%) performed sutures with absorbable thread in the region of the internal oblique aponeurosis, while more than half (55.2%) continued to perform sutures with non-absorbable thread. Most surgeons use a small overlap or fix the mesh juxtaposed to the pubic symphysis (51%). Conclusion: Our research identified that a small percentage of respondents adequately know the technical principles of Lichtenstein surgery. The result brings us new insights into the need to review Lichtenstein technique.
ABSTRACT Healthcare financing is attracting widespread interest due to the coronavirus pandemic. This study aims to assess federal public healthcare financing in Brazil in the light of a legal framework for minimum spending on health and the effects of economic cycles and crises. A literature review showed that public healthcare funding should increase during crises, which is contrary to what fiscal austerity policies postulate. Different formats of fiscal rules for minimum spending on health are analyzed based on the historical evolution of healthcare financing in Brazil. A simulation shows that linking this spending rule to GDP (and especially to current revenue) gives a pro-cyclical character to healthcare financing, which can make it difficult to guarantee health rights in times of crisis. Thus, a debate arises about the need to revise the rule set by the Constitutional Amendment 95/2016 (EC no. 95/2016) and to establish a parameter for growth in public healthcare expenditure that eliminates its pro-cyclical characteristic and enables the needs of the country to be met after the pandemic. pandemic crises postulate revenue procyclical pro cyclical crisis Thus 952016 95 2016 95/201 EC no 95201 9 201 95/20 9520 20 95/2 952 2 95/

Abstract The objective of this study was to obtain data on the testicular biometry of the white-lipped peccary (Tayassu pecari) and to verify if there is a correlation between the individual’s biometric data with their dominance rank. Data were collected from 16 adult males, aged between two and seven years, who made up the same group. By the agonistic interactions analyses we calculated the linearity indexes (h') of the dominance hierarchy and dominance rank. At the end of the behavioral observations, males were captured to collect biometric data from the testis. White-lipped peccaries showed testicles located in a perineal position, inclined cranio-ventrally with oval shape, flattened laterally and with tenso-elastic consistency (2.54±0.07). There was variance in the means (± standard deviation) of testis length (5.88±1.05cm), width (4.24 ± 0.98cm), height (4.44±0.86cm), and total scrotal width (8.78±17.05). The linear dominance hierarchy described the social structure of the males of this group (h'>0.9), with probability of linearity in the hierarchy greater than chance (P = 0.02). There was a correlation between dominance rank with the body mass, length and volume of the testicles. As in general the dimensions of the testicles are directly correlated with sperm production and also testosterone, this characteristic favors the reproductive performance of dominant white-lips males. Therefore, the characteristics of testicular biometry of white-lips should be considered for the selection of individuals more likely to reproduce in captivity favoring the conservation of this vulnerable species. whitelipped white lipped Tayassu pecari individual s 1 years h (h' observations Whitelipped White position cranioventrally cranio ventrally shape tensoelastic tenso elastic 2.54±0.07. 254007 2.54±0.07 . 2 54 0 07 (2.54±0.07) ( deviation 5.88±1.05cm, 588105cm cm 5.88±1.05cm , 5 88 05cm (5.88±1.05cm) 4.24 424 4 24 (4.2 0.98cm, 098cm 0.98cm 98cm 0.98cm) 4.44±0.86cm, 444086cm 4.44±0.86cm 44 86cm (4.44±0.86cm) 8.78±17.05. 8781705 8.78±17.05 8 78 17 05 (8.78±17.05) h>0.9, h09 >0.9 9 (h'>0.9) P 0.02. 002 0.02 02 0.02) mass testosterone whitelips lips Therefore species (h 25400 2.54±0.0 (2.54±0.07 (5.88±1.05cm 4.2 42 (4. Abstract The aim of this study was to investigate uterine involution using ultrasonography techniques during postpartum. Postpartum ultrasonography evaluation (B-mode, color Doppler and Acoustic Radiation Force Impulse elastography) of the uterus was performed by transabdominal approach at immediate after birth and sequentially every 48 hours, during 30 days. The uterine echotexture did not present significant variations (P >0.05) being homogeneous in most evaluations; echogenicity of the uterus increased along the evaluation period (P =0.0452). Progressive and remarkable decrease of the total uterine diameter (UD) were observed (P <0.0001), especially during the first days postpartum. The thickness of uterine wall gradually decreased, as well the endometrial, myometrium and lumen diameters (P <0.0001). Uterine blood flow was assessed by Doppler and decreased during postpartum period, being significantly lower (P=0.0225) on the 30th day of postpartum. Uterine parenchyma presented as homogeneous dark areas (not deformable) on qualitative ultrasound elastography and the means shear velocity values of the uterine wall on quantitative elastography did not differ. This is the first study that evaluate the stiffness of uterine wall in healthy ewes, providing baseline data about quantitative and qualitative stiffness of the normal uterus, and it may be a useful tool for early diagnosis of uterine alterations during the postpartum period, using the reference parameter established for the assessment of uterine integrity during postpartum period.
