RESUMO: Objetivo: compreender as representações sociais sobre alcoolismo entre alcoolistas abstêmios em um grupo terapêutico e suas repercussões para o cuidado no Centro de Atenção Psicossocial de Álcool e outras Drogas. Método: estudo qualitativo com a participação de 20 depoentes, empregada a técnica de livre associação de palavras; estudo realizado no CAPS-AD III na cidade de Belém - Pará - Brasil, em 2023. Dados analisados por análise temática seguida de seis etapas. Resultados: desvelou-se a trajetória do consumo problemático de álcool, por meio de suas representações sociais, nas quais construíram formas de cuidado ligadas primeiramente ao senso comum. Infere-se que eles, sofrendo com males do alcoolismo, buscam a dignidade e retorno à vida cotidiana. Considerações finais: o estudo evidencia que desvelar as representações sociais favorece o acolhimento da família e profissionais de saúde mental, logo o Centro de Atenção Psicossocial se revela como uma nova chance aos usuários abstêmios. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE: to understand the social representations of alcoholism among abstinent alcoholics in a therapeutic group and their impact on care at the Psychosocial Care Center for Alcohol and Other Drugs. Method: a qualitative study with the participation of 20 interviewees, using the technique of free association of words; a study carried out at CAPS-AD III in the city of Belém - Pará - Brazil, in 2023. Abstract The slope stability is an important topic because it presents risks of socio-economic losses caused by eventual ruptures. It is necessary to identify the site profile, as well as obtaining soil strength parameters for the slope stability analysis. This paper presents and discusses the use of the Flat Dilatometer Test (DMT) in the geotechnical site characterization for slope stability analysis in an unsaturated tropical soil site. Six DMTs were performed to define the stratigraphical profile and estimate geotechnical parameters. Shear strength parameters were determined in the laboratory using saturated and unsaturated triaxial compression as well as soil water retention curves (SWRC) to support DMT data interpretation. A commercial software was used to perform the slope stability analysis a cut slope with 6.6 m height and a gradient around 55° to illustrate the application of DMT and triaxial test data. The DMT allowed the representative site profile to be identified, as well as estimating the design parameters that compared well to those interpreted from unsaturated triaxial test data for the in-situ soil suction. The DMT can be used as logging test in the preliminary characterization of studied site specially to define the stratigraphical profile, site variability, select the regions to collect disturbed and undisturbed soil samples and as the first attempt to estimate the geotechnical design parameters via correlations. RESUMEN Objetivo: Evaluar la intensidad y frecuencia del sufrimiento moral en enfermeros de salud mental en Brasil. Método: Estudio transversal con 173 enfermeros de la Red de Atención Psicosocial del territorio brasileño. Se utilizó la Escala Brasileña de Sufrimiento Moral en Enfermeros adaptada para el contexto de la salud mental. Se utilizó análisis estadístico descriptivo e inferencial para el procesamiento de datos. Resultados: Se observó, en su mayoría, niveles moderados de intensidad y frecuencia de sufrimiento moral (medianas entre 2,25 – 3,73 y 2,00 – 3,22, respectivamente), con énfasis en los factores condiciones de trabajo y conflictos sociales. Conclusión: El nivel de sufrimiento moral evidenciado en enfermeros de salud mental en Brasil refleja la dimensión y amplitud del fenómeno en los diferentes puntos de la Red de Atención Psicosocial. Se destaca la relevancia de las discusiones sobre estrategias de enfrentamiento del sufrimiento moral, articulando elementos como la sensibilidad, la resiliencia y el coraje moral, para que la deliberación ética sea aplicada en contextos de cuidado y gestión. RESUMO Objetivo: conhecer as percepções dos profissionais de equipes de atenção primária à saúde e de atenção psicossocial quanto a atuação frente aos impactos psicossociais pós-desastres naturais hidrológicos no sul do Brasil. Método: abordagem qualitativa, tipo estudo de múltiplos casos, descritivo e integrado. Participaram profissionais e gestores da Atenção Primária à Saúde e da Atenção Psicossocial de municípios do Sul do Brasil. Coleta de dados durante execução de projeto financiado, com entrevistas narrativas entre janeiro e maio de 2018. Análise dos dados seguiu etapas do método de Fritz Schütze. Resultados: a interpretação das narrativas dos casos e suas unidades de análise, compuseram as categorias: 1) Atuação das equipes de saúde nos desastres e 2) Significados culturais e capacitação à redução de riscos e desastres. Foram identificadas demandas de atenção pré-inundação; demandas durante o evento do desastre; e demandas após inundação: cuidado na atenção psicossocial e vigilância do território. Conclusão: o estudo identificou ações percebidas por profissionais de equipes de saúde e de gestores municipais com relação aos desastres em um contexto de recorrentes eventos. Embora reconheçam aspectos culturais para a resposta resiliente, há lacunas operacionais e de capacitação para que a gestão do plano de resposta e de recuperação seja efetiva em nível de comunidade. ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the perceptions of Primary Health Care and Psychosocial Care professionals regarding their role in addressing the psychosocial impacts following hydrological natural disasters in southern Brazil. Method: a multiple-case, descriptive and integrated study with a qualitative approach. The participants were professionals and managers from Primary Health Care and Psychosocial Care in municipalities from southern Brazil. Data collection was carried out during the conduction of a funded project, including narrative interviews between January and May 2018. Data analysis followed the stages of Fritz Schütze's method. Results: interpretation of the narratives of the cases and their units of analysis comprised the following categories: 1) Health teams' performance in disasters; and 2) Cultural meanings and training for risk and disaster reduction. Demands for pre-flooding care, demands during the disaster event, and post-flooding demands: care in psychosocial support and territory surveillance were identified. Conclusion: the study identified actions perceived by health team professionals and municipal managers regarding disasters in a context of recurrent events. While recognizing cultural aspects for a resilient response, there are operational and training gaps for an effective management of the response and recovery plan at the community level. RESUMEN Objetivo: conocer las percepciones de los profesionales de equipos de Atención Primaria de la Salud y de Atención Psicosocial con respecto a su desempeño frente a los efectos psicosociales posteriores a desastres naturales hidrológicos en el sur do Brasil. Los participantes fueron profesionales y gerentes de Atención Primaria de la Salud y de Atención Psicosocial de municipios del sur de Brasil. Los datos se recolectaron mientras se ejecutaba un proyecto financiado, por medio de entrevistas narrativas entre enero y mayo de 2018. El análisis de datos siguió las etapas del método de Fritz Schütze. Resultados: la interpretación de las narrativas de los casos y sus unidades de análisis dieron lugar a las siguientes categorías: 1) Desempeño de los equipos de salud en los desastres; y 2) Significados culturales y capacitación para reducir riesgos y desastres. Se identificaron requerimientos de atención previos a una inundación; al igual que requerimientos durante el desastre, y posteriores a una inundación: cuidado en la atención psicosocial y vigilancia del territorio. Conclusión: el estudio identificó acciones percibidas por profesionales de equipos de salud y gerentes municipales en relación con los desastres en un contexto de eventos recurrentes. Aunque reconocen aspectos culturales para ofrecer una respuesta resiliente, se evidencian brechas operativas y de capacitación para que la administración del plan de respuesta y recuperación sea efectiva al nivel de la comunidad. ABSTRACT Objectives: Currently, not much is known about the interactions between voice and growth hormone (GH). We have described large kindred with isolated GH deficiency (IGHD) due to a GHRH receptor mutation, resulting in severe short stature and high-pitched voice. These IGHD individuals have little interest in GH treatment, as they consider themselves “short long-lived people”, rather than patients. Interestingly, they report normal general quality of life, but they rate their Voice-Related Quality of Life (V-RQOL) as low. Here, we assessed the social and auditory-perceptual impacts of artistic-intervention voice therapy with semioccluded vocal tract exercises (SOVTE) and choral singing, on their voices. Material and methods: Seventeen GH-naïve adult IGHD individuals were enrolled in a single-arm interventional pre-post study with 13 weekly sessions of choir singing over 90 days. Outcome measures were V-RQOL scores, self-assessment of voice, and auditory-perceptual analysis (GRBAS scale, G: grade of the severity of dysphonia; R: roughness; B: breathiness; A: asthenia; and S: strain). Results: Marked improvements in total (p = 0.0001), physical (p = 0.0002), and socioemotional (p = 0.0001) V-RQOL scores and in self-assessment of voice (p = 0.004) were found. The general grades of vocal deviation (p = 0.0001), roughness (p = 0.0001), breathiness (p = 0.0001) and strain (p = 0.0001) exhibited accentuated reductions. Conclusions: Voice therapy with semioccluded vocal tract exercises and choral training improved social impact and perceptual voice assessments in IGHD subjects and markedly improved their voice-related quality of life. This is particularly important in a setting where GH replacement therapy is not widely accepted.

Abstract The seasonal variability of geotechnical parameters in the unsaturated zone is typically neglected in the design of geotechnical works. In most of the geotechnical projects the parameters are determined only for the saturated condition. Although it is known that this condition is the most critical to soil strength and deformability, this conservative approach may neglect a possible important contribution of the unsaturated condition, resulting in an increase in the cost of the geotechnical solution. This paper presents and discusses the site characterization of the active zone of an unsaturated sandy soil profile under different suction conditions. Laboratory tests with controlled suction (retention curves, triaxial compression with bender elements and oedometer tests) were carried out on undisturbed samples collected from 1.0 to 5.0 m depth. The results show that strength and deformability parameters are strongly affected by soil suction and are less influenced by confinement stress up to 5.0 m depth. All the investigated subsoil profile shows a collapsible behavior, more pronounced closer to the ground surface and under the effect of higher suction values. The findings highlight the importance of incorporating the suction influence in the site investigation, parameter determination, and geotechnical design for more economical, reliable, and environmentally sustainable solutions.

Resumo Neste presente estudo, objetivou-se avaliar as alterações induzidas pela infecção natural de Schistosoma mansoni nas concentrações de glicose do sangue periférico de roedores Holochilus sciureus, reservatório silvestre do parasito. A dosagem da concentração de glicose foi realizada no plasma de amostras de sangue por meio de teste enzimático colorimétrico. Parâmetros biológicos e carga parasitária de S. mansoni também foram verificados em cada roedor e correlacionados com as concentrações de glicose. Um total de 76 H. sciureus foram capturados, dentre os quais 20 (26%) estavam infectados por S. mansoni (n=13 machos e n=7 fêmeas). Apesar da carga parasitária ter sido semelhante entre os sexos, as concentrações de glicose no sangue foram menores em machos naturalmente infectados e quase inalteradas em fêmeas. Além disso, os dados histopatológicos mostraram uma maior reação inflamatória granulomatosa hepática em roedores machos, quando comparados com as fêmeas. Adicionalmente, também foi confirmado que o peso e o comprimento total dos animas analisados não interferiram nos valores de glicose. Portanto, a infecção natural por S. mansoni em H. sciureus pode induzir menos impacto na homeostase glicêmica em fêmeas, o que pode ajudar a melhor entender o papel desses roedores como reservatórios de S. mansoni.

Abstract The present study aimed to evaluate the changes in peripheral blood glucose concentrations induced by Schistosoma mansoni infection in Holochilus sciureus rodents, a wild reservoir of the parasite. Glucose concentration was measured in the plasma of blood samples using a colorimetric enzymatic test. Biological parameters and S. mansoni burden in each rodent were also verified and correlated with glucose concentrations. A total of 76 H. sciureus were captured, out of which 20 (26%) were infected with S. mansoni (n=13 males and n=7 females). Although the parasite burden was comparable between the sexes, blood glucose concentration was lower in infected males and almost unchanged in females. Furthermore, histopathological data revealed that male rodents had a greater hepatic granulomatous inflammatory reaction than females. In addition, we also confirmed that the weight and total length of the analyzed animals had no effect on glucose levels. Therefore, natural infection with S. mansoni in H. sciureus may have a lower impact on glycemic homeostasis in females, which will help us understand the role of these rodents as reservoirs of S. mansoni.

Resumo Os estudos sobre games na educação contemplam uma variedade de áreas, bem como dizem respeito à interação lúdica promovida através dos jogos para proporcionar o engajamento de estudantes em tarefas educativas. Esses estudos são frutos de pesquisas teóricas, e principalmente empíricas, que tentam compreender, para além do game como entretenimento, sua inter-relação com a educação. Mas, como esse campo de estudo se desenvolve na contemporaneidade? Quais campos do conhecimento estão imbricados nessa construção? Quais os elementos atuais de discussão nesse campo de estudo? Para contribuir com esses questionamentos, este estudo tem por objetivo: analisar a produção científica de alto impacto relacionada aos games na educação; tendo como demais objetivos: descrever as relações dos campos envolvidos na construção do conhecimento de alto impacto sobre games na educação; e compreender os principais elementos da construção do conhecimento de alto impacto sobre games na educação. Nesse intento, toma-se por aporte metodológico a cientometria, utilizando a análise de desenvolvimento temática, mapas da ciência e diagrama de Sankey produzidos a partir de dados recuperados de uma importante base de dados. Como decorrência deste estudo, atenta-se para a interdisciplinaridade dos campos relacionados à construção do conhecimento sobre games na educação, sendo os serious games e o design de jogos os campos que mais corroboram a construção do conhecimento acerca dos jogos na educação, existindo uma forte crítica à gamificação entre os principais autores do campo.

Abstract Studies about video games in education comprise a variety of fields and concern the ludic interaction that is enabled through video games in order to engage students in educative tasks. These studies result from theoretical and mainly empirical research that seeks to understand, beyond video games as entertainment, their interrelation with education. But how does this field of study develop in contemporary times? What fields of knowledge are imbricated in this construction? What are the current elements of discussion in this field of study? To contribute to understanding of these issues, the goals of this study are: to analyze high-impact scientific output related to video games in education; to describe the relationship of the fields involved in the construction of high-impact knowledge about video games in education; and to understand the main elements of the construction of high-impact knowledge about video games in education. To achieve these goals, the methodology adopted is scientometrics, using thematic development analysis, science maps and Sankey diagrams based on data retrieved from an important database. Results point to the interdisciplinarity of the fields related to the construction of knowledge about video games in education, with serious games and game design being the fields that reinforce most the construction of knowledge about video games in education; moreover, a strong criticism of gamification by the main authors in the field is observed.

RESUMO A erosão em encostas ou taludes demanda o uso de técnicas que promovam a coesão do solo, aumentando sua resistência ao cisalhamento, ao mesmo tempo que contribuam para a recuperação florístico-paisagística. Objetivou-se analisar as características morfológicas dos capins vetiver e paspalum, a fim de compreender sua contribuição para a estabilização do solo, em casa-de-vegetação. Os seguintes parâmetros foram avaliados: altura da planta; número de perfilhos por planta; comprimento, diâmetro, volume e matéria seca da raiz. Ambas as espécies mostraram valores semelhantes para comprimento e diâmetro da raiz, embora o número de perfilhos por planta tenha sido maior para o capim paspalum. Em relação à altura da planta, não foram identificadas diferenças estatísticas, mostrando que ambas podem promover boa cobertura do solo. O capim paspalum apresentou desempenho semelhante em várias características morfométricas, quando comparado ao capim vetiver, demonstrando forte potencial para ser adotado como parte das técnicas de recuperação de áreas degradadas relacionadas à estabilização do solo.

ABSTRACT Soil erosion on slopes demands the use of techniques that promote soil cohesion, increasing its shear strength, while contributing to the foristic-landscape recovery. This study aimed to analyze the morphological characteristics of vetiver and paspalum grasses, in order to understand their contribution to soil stabilization, under greenhouse conditions. The following parameters were evaluated: plant height; number of tillers per plant; root length, diameter, volume and dry matter. Both species showed similar values for root length and diameter, while the number of tillers per plant was higher for the paspalum grass. Concerning the plant height, no statistical differences were identified, showing that both can promote a good soil cover. The paspalum grass presented a similar performance in several morphometric characteristics, when compared to the vetiver grass, showing a strong potential to be adopted as part of the techniques on the recovery of degraded areas related to soil stabilization.

This study searched for a new pre-formulation based on the natural compound from the class of the avermectins, named abamectin (ABA), in order to improve its action against Aedes aegypti larvae by complexation with β-cyclodextrin (βCD). Concerning the low aqueous solubility of ABA, even in the presence of βCD, it was also invoked the strategy of working with hydrophobic nanoprecipitates (HNPs). For these purposes, molecular and supramolecular characterizations of 1:1 ABA/βCD complex and evaluation of its toxicity against A. aegypti larvae were performed. In the physical-chemistry characterizations, changes in the infrared spectra and thermal profiles in relation to precursors confirmed the occurrence of interactions between ABA and βCD in solid state. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data suggest the inclusion of ABA in βCD via benzofuran ring. Isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) experiments allowed to verify the formation of complex with a 1:1 stoichiometry, which was entropy driven. The dynamic light scattering and zeta potential data from inclusion compounds demonstrated changes in the size of the ABA/βCD HNP if compared with the ABA HNP. Finally, the results for biological assays demonstrate that the strategy to prepare the inclusion compound led to an increase in the larvicidal activity in relation to free ABA.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Evaluar el nivel de cultura de seguridad del paciente, desde la perspectiva de los profesionales de la salud, en un hospital del sur de Brasil. Material y Método: Estudio cuantitativo que aplicó el instrumento Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HOSPSC), de mayo a junio de 2018; la muestra de 291 participantes se obtuvo por conveniencia, los datos se organizaron en Microsoft Excel®. Para el análisis e interpretación de las dimensiones de la cultura de seguridad, se aplicó la metodología propuesta por la Agency Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ). Resultados: El porcentaje general de respuestas positivas fue del 46%, la dimensión con mayor porcentaje de respuestas positivas fue "aprendizaje organizacional y la mejora continua"; ninguna dimensión alcanzó un valor superior al 75%; la dimensión que mostró mayor fragilidad fue "respuesta no punitiva al error", con el porcentaje más bajo de respuestas positivas (16%); la mayoría de los profesionales (56%) no hicieron ninguna notificación en el período de 12 meses; con respecto a la percepción de los participantes sobre la seguridad del paciente en su unidad de trabajo, se observó una cantidad similar entre aquellos que tienen una percepción positiva (muy buena y excelente) y negativa (regular, mala y muy mala). Conclusiones: Existen debilidades en la cultura de seguridad del paciente, destacando la necesidad de discutir el tema en todos los ámbitos de atención de la institución.

ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the level of patient safety culture, from the perspective of health professionals, in a hospital in southern Brazil. Material and Method: Quantitative study carried out using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture instrument, from May to June 2018. The sample was drawn using convenience sampling and consisted of 291 participants; data were organized in Microsoft Excel®. For the analysis and interpretation of safety culture dimensions, the methodology proposed by the Agency Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) was applied. Results: The overall percentage of positive responses was 46%, the dimension that showed a higher percentage of positive responses was "organizational learning and continuous improvement", however no dimension reached a value above 75%. The dimension that showed the greatest fragility was a "non-punitive response to error" with the lowest percentage of positive responses (16%). Most professionals (56%) did not make any notification in the 12-month period. Regarding the participants' perception of patient safety in their work unit, a similar amount was observed among those who have a positive (very good and excellent) and negative (regular, bad and very bad) perception. Conclusions: The study reveals weaknesses in patient safety culture, highlighting the need to discuss the subject in all healthcare areas within the institution.

Conclusões: Há fragilidades na cultura de segurança do paciente, evidenciando a necessidade de se discutir o tema em todas as áreas de atenção da instituição.

Abstract The Theraphosidae family includes the largest number of species of the Mygalomorphae infraorder, with hundreds of species currently catalogued. However, there is a huge lack on physiologic and even ecologic information available, especially in Brazil, which is the most biodiverse country in the world. Over the years, spiders have been presented as a source of multiple biologically active compounds with basic roles, such as primary defense against pathogenic microorganisms or modulation of metabolic pathways and as specialized hunters. Spider venoms also evolved in order to enable the capture of prey by interaction with a diversity of molecular targets of interest, raising their pharmaceutical potential for the development of new drugs. Among the activities found in compounds isolated from venoms and hemocytes of Brazilian Theraphosidae there are antimicrobial, antifungal, antiparasitic and antitumoral, as well as properties related to proteinase action and neuromuscular blockage modulated by ionic voltage-gated channel interaction. These characteristics are present in different species from multiple genera, which is strong evidence of the important role in spider survival. The present review aims to compile the main results of studies from the last decades on Brazilian Theraphosidae with special focus on results obtained with the crude venom or compounds isolated from both venom and hemocytes, and their physiological and chemical characterization.

RESUMO Objetivo: elaborar estratégias de fortalecimento para articulação dos serviços municipais que compõem a rede de atenção psicossocial. Método: pesquisa participante, de abordagem qualitativa, realizada em março e abril de 2019 em um município do sul do Brasil. A coleta de dados envolveu análise documental, questionário e grupo focal. Amostra composta por treze profissionais da Atenção Básica, Núcleo Ampliado Saúde da Família, Policlínica Municipal, Centro de Atenção Psicossocial e Hospital Geral. Análise dos dados de acordo com Minayo, elaboradas as estratégias através da triangulação dos dados. Resultados: potencialidades e fragilidades encontradas no cotidiano profissional, organização e articulação da rede, e estratégias para fortalecê-la. Dentre as estratégias elaboradas, destacamse a necessidade do matriciamento nos serviços de saúde, capacitação, empoderamento dos profissionais. Conclusão: A literatura é escassa sobre as estratégias para articulação da rede, recomendando-se novos estudos. A atual pesquisa mostra a importância e inevitalidade da articulação, contribuindo na melhora da prática.

ABSTRACT Objective: to elaborate strategies of strengthening for articulating the municipal services that make up the psychosocial care network. Method: participant research with qualitative approach, carried out in the months of March and April 2019 in a municipality of the South of Brazil. Data collection involved a documental analysis, questionnaire and focus group. Sample composed by thirteen professionals of Basic Health Care, Expanded Nucleus of Family Health, Municipal Polyclinic, Psychosocial Care Center and General Hospital. Data analysis according to Minayo and elaboration of strategies through data triangulation. Results: potentialities and weaknesses found in daily professional work, organization and articulation of the network, and strategies to strengthen it. Among the strategies elaborated, the need for matrix support in health services, training and empowerment of professionals stand out. Conclusion: Literature is scarce on strategies for network articulation, and new studies are recommended. The current research shows the importance and unavoidability of articulation, contributing for the improvement of practice.

La recolección de datos implico el análisis documental, cuestionario y grupo focal. Muestra compuesta por trece profesionales de Atención Básica, Núcleo Ampliado de Salud Familiar, Policlínica Municipal, Centro de Atención Psicosocial y Hospital General. El análisis de los datos según Minayo y elaboración de estrategias mediante la triangulación de los datos. Resultados: potencialidades y fragilidades encontradas en la vida profesional cotidiana, organización y articulación de la red, y estrategias para fortalecerla. Entre las estrategias elaboradas se destacan la necesidad de apoyo matricial en los servicios de salud, la capacitación y el empoderamiento de los profesionales. Conclusión: Hay escasez de literatura sobre estrategias para la articulación de la red y se recomiendan nuevos estudios. La actual investigación indica la importancia e inevitabilidad de la articulación, lo que contribuye a mejorar la práctica.

RESUMO Conforme a população mundial aumenta, a necessidade de desenvolvimento de sistemas de tratamento de efluentes mais eficientes requer o uso de novas tecnologias. O projeto e otimização de biorreatores e bioprocessos auxiliados por softwares têm se tornado uma questão de interesse, em especial devido ao avanço no estado da arte quando se trata de recursos computacionais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi realizar simulações numéricas gás/liquido, utilizando o software Fluent 16.2, e validar experimentalmente o modelo computacional através de técnicas de PIV e Shadow Imaging. Foram realizadas simulações laminares, tridimensionais, transientes adotando uma abordagem Euleriana-Euleriana. Os resultados para o desequilíbrio de massa para as fases gasosa e líquida, a fração volumétrica de gás, a velocidade do gás, o tamanho da bolha, a magnitude e a velocidade ascensional do líquido e os perfis de escoamento do líquido foram validados experimentalmente com êxito. Foi verificada uma diferença de 4,37% entre resultados numéricos e experimentais para a fração volumétrica de gás no reator. Quando comparados os resultados das simulações com os resultados obtidos através de Shadow Imaging, foi encontrada uma diferença de 1,73% para a velocidade média da bolha. Não foi verificada coalescência ao longo dos experimentos realizados, e o escoamento foi caracterizado como fluxo de bolhas dispersas. Em relação à fase líquida, foi encontrada uma diferença de 3,2% para a velocidade média, entre os resultados simulados e de PIV. Os perfis de velocidade simulada e experimental mostraram uma melhor concordância no centro do reator. Algumas diferenças foram observadas nesses perfis, devido às simplificações geométricas assumidas para obter uma malha melhor. Considerando a boa concordância entre resultados numéricos e experimentais, o modelo foi considerado validado.

ABSTRACT As the world population increases, the need to develop more efficient wastewater treatment systems requires the use of new technologies. Software aided project and optimization of bioreactors and bioprocesses have become a matter of interest in recent years, especially due to the advance in the state-of-the-art of computational resources. This work aimed to perform gas/liquid numerical simulations using the Fluent 16.2 software and to validate this model through Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) and shadow imaging techniques. Eulerian-Eulerian, laminar, tridimensional and transient simulations were carried out. The results for the mass imbalance for the gas and liquid phases, gas volumetric fraction, gas velocity, bubble size, liquid magnitude and upflow velocity and the velocity profiles for the liquid phase were successfully validated against experimental data. Concerning the dispersed phase, it was found a difference of 4.37% for the gas volumetric fraction between experiments and simulations. Simulated results showed a difference for the bubble mean velocity of 1.73% when compared with shadow imaging results. No coalescence was observed along the experiments, and the flow regime was characterized as dispersed bubble flow. Regarding the liquid phase, it was found a difference of 3.2% for the mean velocity, between simulated and PIV results. Simulated and experimental velocity profiles showed a better agreement at the center of the reactor. Some differences were observed in those profiles, due to geometry simplifications assumed in order to get a better mesh. Considering the good agreement between simulation and experiments, the model was considered validated.
