Resumo O presente artigo avalia o potencial de aplicação do conceito de material com gradação funcional (MGF) ao desenvolvimento de concretos mais duráveis frente à carbonatação, um dos principais mecanismos de degradação das estruturas de concreto armado. Ensaios acelerados de carbonatação com temperatura (27 ( 2 °C), concentração de CO 2 (3 ( 0,5%) e umidade (65 ( 5%) controladas foram realizados em concretos homogêneos e com gradação funcional em que a porosidade do material foi variada ao longo dos corpos de prova. Para a confecção dos corpos de prova de concreto com gradação funcional foram utilizados concretos com relações água/cimento iguais a 0,35, 0,45 e 0,55 de forma que tivéssemos uma redução de porosidade à medida que nos aproximássemos da superfície da peça. O avanço da frente de carbonatação foi avaliado após 8, 9, 10, 14 e 24 semanas de exposição acelerada, empregando-se o indicador químico fenolftaleína. A partir dos resultados obtidos observou-se que os concretos com gradação funcional apresentaram coeficiente de carbonatação (K) ligeiramente superior ao do concreto com relação a/c igual a 0,35 (1,71 e 1,54 mm.semana -0,5 , respectivamente) e bastante inferior aos concretos com relação água cimento iguais a 0,45 (2,31 mm.semana -0,5 ) e 0,55 (3,78 mm.semana -0,5 ), evidenciando que a gradação funcional pode ser um método eficiente para proporcionar o aumento da durabilidade de elementos de concreto sujeitos à carbonatação. Abstract The present paper evaluated the potential application of the functionally graded material (FGM) concept to develop more durable concrete to carbonation, one of the main degradation mechanisms of reinforced concrete structures. Accelerated carbonation tests with controlled temperature (27 ( 2°C), CO2 concentration (3 ( 0.5%) and humidity (65 ( 5%) were carried out in homogeneous concretes and with functional gradation in which the porosity of the material was varied across the slices. For the manufacture of graded concrete specimens, concretes with water/cement ratios equal to 0.35, 0.45, and 0.55 were produced, with lower porosity (w/c = 0.35) close to the surface of the specimen. Lasers find extensive applications across a spectrum from academic research to industrial use. In various instances, understanding the intensity profile of laser light is of paramount importance, specifically how its intensity changes along its propagation path. In this study, we introduce an economical and alternative technique for determining the waist of a Gaussian laser beam, leveraging the capabilities of a Smartphone camera. Our methodology entails directing a CO2 laser onto a thermochromic liquid crystal sheet for specific exposure duration, resulting in a color pattern that evolves over time. This evolving pattern is captured by a Smartphone camera, and selected frames from the recording are processed and analyzed to quantify the beam’s waist, denoted as w ( z ). Our measurements are compared with those obtained through the traditional knife-edge method, demonstrating a substantial degree of agreement. Furthermore, by interpolating the waists calculated through our approach, we were able to ascertain the beam waist at the focus and the focal point of a converging lens, yielding results consistent with the reference method. RESUMO Neste estudo objetivou-se caracterizar a zona hiporreica de um trecho do rio Ipojuca através de análises dos sedimentos e da meiofauna desse ambiente. Foram realizadas coletas de amostras em dois pontos, (Ponto 1: 8º17'28.2” S; 35º59'38.6” W e Ponto 2: 8º17'48.1” S; 35º56'12.2” W), e em três períodos: verão (novembro/2018), período de transição (março/2018) e inverno (junho/2018). O material mais representativo foi classificado como silte, variando entre grosso, médio e fino. ABSTRACT This study characterized the hyporheic zone of a stretch of the Ipojuca River through analysis of the sediments and meiofauna of this environment. Samples were collected at two points (Point 1: 8°17'28.2” S; 35°59'38.6” W and Point 2: 8°17'48.1” S; 35°56'12.2” W) and in three periods: summer (November/2018), transition period (March/2018), and winter (June/2018). Resumo Este estudo teve como objetivo identificar a influência da substituição do agregado graúdo natural por agregado graúdo reciclado de concreto na espessura e no volume da pasta cimentícia sob a variação da relação água/cimento nas propriedades frescas e endurecidas do concreto permeável. A espessura teórica da pasta determinada foi ineficiente para dosagem de concreto permeável. Porém, constatou-se que o volume da pasta foi o parâmetro que melhor se relacionou com as propriedades mecânicas e de permeabilidade do material estudado. O concreto permeável com agregados naturais apresentou maior resistência à compressão que o concreto com agregados reciclados, mas ambos atenderam às normas vigentes. Abstract This study aimed to identify the influence of replacing coarse natural aggregate with coarse recycled concrete aggregate on the thickness and volume of the cementitious paste under the variation of the water/cement ratio in the fresh and hardened properties of pervious concrete. The determined theoretical paste thickness was inefficient for pervious concrete dosage. However, it was found that the paste volume was the parameter that was best related to the mechanical and permeability properties of the studied material. Pervious concrete with natural aggregates showed higher compressive strength than concrete with recycled aggregates, although both met the regulations. Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the influence of the Er,Cr:YSGG irradiation and 980-nm diode lasers on the surface roughness (SR) and volume loss (VL) of dentin subjected to cariogenic challenge. Subsequently, 130 specimens of bovine dentin were divided into the following 13 groups: NT: no treatment; FG: fluoride gel; FV: fluoride varnish; Di: 980-nm diode; Di + FG; Di + FV; FG + D; FV + Di; Er: Er,Cr:YSGG; Er + FG; Er + FV; FG + Er and FV + Er. ABSTRACT Increasing orchard density is an alternative approach for enhancing productivity of the fig tree. In addition to promoting better utilization of productive areas, increased density allows for the optimization of plant management. In some situations, it may be necessary to alter the pruning system. The aim of this study was to investigate whether the practices of reducing spacing and lopping shoots enhance green fig production for industrial purposes. The research was conducted in southern Minas Gerais State, Brazil (21°14’S and 45°00’W, 918 m in height) in an area with a tropical highland climate. A 3 × 2 factorial scheme was adopted, with three different plant spacings (0.50, 0.75, or 1 m, totaling plant densities of 8,000, 5,333, and 4,000 fig trees per hectare, respectively), and plants were managed with and without the lopping of productive shoots. The spacing between planting rows was standardized to 2.5 m. Two productive shoots were retained on all trees. In the lopping treatment, after the emergence of the 16th leaf, the shoot was topped (i.e., the apical bud was removed), and two new shoots were selected per productive shoot. Additional loppings were performed later, always after the emergence of the sixth leaf, totaling three loppings. Data were collected from each plot, which consisted of three useful plants, during two production cycles. RESUMO A umbu-cajazeira (Spondias sp.) é uma frutífera nativa do semiárido brasileiro, com grande potencial ambiental e agrossocioeconômico para região. A determinação da área foliar (LA) é importante para compreensão das interações entre o crescimento, fisiologia, nutrição das plantas e o ambiente. Assim, o objetivo desta pesquisa é construir equações alométricas que estime de forma não destrutiva a área foliar umbu-cajazeira (Spondias sp.), considerando as dimensões dos folíolos (comprimento e largura). Os folíolos foram coletados de plantas matrizes de umbu-cajazeira (Spondias sp.), e medidos individualmente quanto ao comprimento (L), largura (W) e LA por meio de imagens digitalizadas. Estes dados foram submetidos à análise descritiva e de regressão. A LA foi estimada utilizando os modelos de regressão linear, potência e exponencial, baseados no L e W dos folíolos. O melhor modelo e equação foi escolhido com base nos critérios de seleção: coeficiente de determinação, índice de concordância de Willmott, raiz do erro quadrático médio e erro absoluto médio. ABSTRACT The umbu-cajazeira (Spondias sp.) is a fruit tree native to the semi-arid of Brazil, with significant environmental and agro-socioeconomic potential for the region. Determining leaflet area (LA) is essential for understanding the interactions between plant growth, physiology, nutrition, and environment. Thus, this research aims to construct allometric equations that non-destructively estimate the umbu-cajazeira (Spondias sp.) leaflet area, considering the leaflet dimensions (length and width). The leaflets were collected from mother plants of umbu-cajazeira (Spondias sp.) and individually measured for length (L), width (W), and LA using digitized images. These data were submitted for descriptive and regression analysis. The LA was estimated using, linear power, and exponential regression models based on the L and W of the leaflets. Measuring leaf area through non-destructive methods is fundamental for studies on its growth and production. The estimation of leaf area by linear dimensions of the leaves can be a strategy for this purpose. ABSTRACT The ideal ventral hernia surgical repair is still in discussion1. The defect closure with a mesh-based repair is the base of surgical repair, in open or minimally invasive techniques2. The open methods lead to a higher surgical site infections incidence, meanwhile, the laparoscopic IPOM (intraperitoneal onlay mesh) increases the risk of intestinal lesions, adhesions, and bowel obstruction, in addition to requiring double mesh and fixation products which increase its costs and could worsen the post-operative pain3-5. The eTEP (extended/enhanced view totally intraperitoneal) technique has also arisen as a good option for this hernia repair. RESUMO A quantidade de irradiação solar disponível no ambiente de cultivo pode causar alterações significativas na fisiologia e anatomia foliar que possibilite á aclimatação das culturas a diferentes condições de luminosidade. Nesse sentido, objetivou-se a caracterização anatômica foliar e a elucidação dos mecanismos morfofisiológicos de aclimatação a alta irradiância solar de genótipos de helicônias durante o estágio inicial de desenvolvimento em condições semiáridas. O experimento foi conduzido no município de Petrolina-Pernambuco (09°19’14” S, 40°32’40” O e 387 metros de altitude) e foram avaliados o comportamento de três genótipos de helicônias (Heliconia rauliniana; H. bihai cv. Lobster Claw Two e H. rostrata) cultivadas em ambientes de pleno sol e sombreamento (50%). Aos 30 dias após a implantação do experimento foi realizado análises anatômicas foliares, índice de clorofilas, altura de plantas, número de folhas e número de perfilhos. As folhas de helicônias são caracterizadas como do tipo anfiestomática com estômatos do tipo tetracítico. Em sua nervura principal há estruturas de aerênquimas e hipoderme nas faces abaxial e adaxial. As respostas as diferentes condições de luminosidade em plantas de H. bihai, H. rauliniana e H. rostrata são genótipo-específicas. Além disso, as estruturas anatômicas e as alterações fisiológicas observadas em plantas de H. bihai e H. rauliniana demostram que esses genótipos apresentam maior plasticidade e consequentemente maior potencial de aclimatação às condições de alta irradiação solar. ABSTRACT The amount of solar irradiation available in the growing environment can cause significant changes in physiology and leaf anatomy that enable crops to acclimate to different light conditions. In this sense, the objective was to characterize the leaf anatomy and to elucidate the morpho-physiological mechanisms of acclimation to high solar irradiance of heliconia genotypes during the initial stage of development under semiarid conditions. The experiment was conducted in the municipality of Petrolina, Pernambuco state, Brazil (09° 19’ 14” S, 40° 32’ 40” W, and 387 m of altitude) and the behavior of three heliconia genotypes (Heliconia rauliniana; H. bihai cv. Lobster Claw Two, and H. rostrata) grown in full sun and shading (50%) environments were evaluated. At 30 days after the implementation of the experiment, leaf anatomy, chlorophyll index, plant height, number of leaves, and number of tillers were analyzed. Heliconia leaves are characterized as amphistomatous with tetracytic stomata. In its main vein there are aerenchyma structures and hypodermis on the abaxial and adaxial sides. The responses to different light conditions in plants of H. bihai, H. rauliniana, and H. rostrata are genotype-specific. Furthermore, the anatomical structures and physiological changes observed in H. bihai and H. rauliniana plants demonstrate that these genotypes present greater plasticity and consequently greater potential for acclimation to high solar irradiation conditions. RESUMO Parkia platycephala, popularmente conhecida como faveira, é uma espécie nativa que ocorre amplamente em todo o Brasil e possui alto valor nutricional e potencial ecológico. Objetivou-se com o trabalho estimar a variabilidade genética em teste de procedências e progênies de P. platycephala. O teste foi instalado em blocos casualizados, com 45 progênies de três procedências. Os caracteres quantitativos avaliados foram: altura (ALT), diâmetro a nível do solo (DNS) e diâmetro a altura da primeira bifurcação (DAB) das plantas. Os dados foram submetidos à análise de REML/BLUP, a partir da qual foram obtidas as estimativas de parâmetros genéticos, correlações genéticas, os BLUP’s, ganhos genéticos e tamanho efetivo populacional. As estimativas de herdabilidade individual no sentido restrito ( h a 2) e dentro progênies ( h w 2) variaram de baixa a moderada (0,01 a 0,39), sendo os maiores valores observados para o caractere DNS (0,32 e 0,39, respectivamente). ABSTRACT Parkia platycephala, known commonly as faveira, is a native species that occurs widely throughout Brazil and has high nutritional value and ecological potential. The objective of this study was to estimate the genetic variability in a P. platycephala provenance and progeny test. The test was established using a randomized block design, with 45 progenies from three provenances. The evaluated quantitative traits included height (HEI), diameter at ground level (DGL), and diameter below the first bifurcation (DFB). The data were submitted to Restricted Maximum Likelihood/Best Linear Unbiased Prediction (REML/BLUP) analysis, from which estimates of genetic parameters, genetic correlations, BLUPs, genetic gains, and effective population size were obtained. Estimates of individual narrow sense heritability ( h a 2) and within progeny heritability ( h w 2) ranged from low to moderate (0.01 a 0.39), with the highest values observed for DGL (0.32 and 0.39, respectively). The coefficient of individual variation (CVgi(%)) and between progeny genetic variation (CVgp(%)) indicate the existence of genetic variability between and within provenances. Ti alloys are widely used in severe corrosion environments where corrosion resistance is required, as biomedical industry. Additive manufacturing produces customized and complexes products. Laser texturing is a process of structuring surfaces using laser pulses, that allows the creation of periodic patterns on the surfaces of materials, to modify them, functionally and/or aesthetically, in a precise and direct way, allowing parameterization, versatility and repeatability. Consequently, bringing together metallic additive manufacturing with laser texturing process could be an alternative to obtain parts with functional hydrophilic surfaces, which improves osteointegration and reduces bacteria adhesion. ABSTRACT Off-season crops diversification and gypsum under minimal tillage can improve soil fertility and reduce soil compaction. The objective of this work was to evaluate changes on soil physical and chemical properties and soybean yield grown over off-season crops in combination with gypsum and chiseling. Treatments consisted of gypsum application (0 and 3,5 t ha-1), two tillage systems (no tillage [NT] and minimal tillage [MT] with chiseling) and four soybean off-season crop successions: maize (M); maize+brachiaria (M+B); millet+crotalaria/wheat (Mi+C/W) and maize+black oats (M+O). Gypsum application reduced resistance to penetration (PR) by 12% in M+B system (1.12 kPa), when compared to the same treatment without gypsum. Gypsum increased surface soil Ca contents, mainly in M/O (from 3.81 to 5.66 cmolc dm-3). MT decreased PR in M+B, Mi+C/W and M/O, from 1.28 kPa in NT to 0.98 kPa. MT lowered total soil porosity from 66.9 to 63.1%, but reduced Ca contents compared to NT. Cultivation of crotalaria in the off-season reduced Al levels on the soil surface and grasses increased K and P in depth. Despite the improvements in the soil properties, crop rotations, chiseling and gypsum were not able to increase soybean yields in this 18-month experiment, averaging 3904 kg ha-1. Resumo Os elementos de terras raras são matérias-primas essenciais para o desenvolvimento da sociedade. A produção dessas espécies ocorre maioritariamente pelo processo hidrometalúrgico e por adsorção por argilas. Contudo, esses métodos de produção resultam em grandes impactos ambientais, além do elevado consumo energético. Neste sentido, a busca por tecnologias verdes para extração desses elementos torna-se imprescindível. A eletromineração é uma técnica que utiliza o processo eletrocinético, assistido por eletrólitos “verdes”, para remoção de espécies metálicas de solos. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi avaliar o efeito de diferentes eletrólitos na remoção de lantânio e neodímio de solos, utilizando o processo electrocinético. Para isso, foram realizadas duas experiências variando o electrólito, a primeira com ácido cítrico e a segunda com ácido oxálico, ambos na concentração de 0.10 mol L-1. As eletrominerações foram conduzidas com uma intensidade de campo elétrico de 1.0 V cm-1 durante 240 h, usando 300 g de solo. Os resultados indicaram que a maior remoção ocorreu quando o ácido cítrico foi usado como eletrólito, apresentando uma extração de 63,2% para o lantânio e de 34,7% para o neodímio, com consumo elétrico de 12.6 W h. Assim, a técnica de eletromineração mostrou-se viável para a remoção de elementos de terras raras do solo, com baixo consumo energético.

Abstract Rare earth elements are critical raw materials, which are essential for the development of society. The production of these species mainly occurs via the hydrometallurgical process and ion adsorption clays. However, these processes result in high environmental impact and high energy consumption. In this sense, the search for green technologies to extract these elements becomes crucial. The electromining is a technique that applies electrokinetics using green electrolytes to assist in the removal of metallic species from soils. The aim of this work was to evaluate the effect of different electrolytes in the removal of lanthanum and neodymium from soils, applying the electromining technique. To that end, two experiments were conducted using different electrolytes, in one citric acid and in the other oxalic acid, both at a concentration of 0.10 mol L-1. The electromining experiments were conducted applying an electric field strength of 1.0 V cm-1 for 240 h using 300 g of soil. The results showed that the higher removal occurred using citric acid, which extracted 63.2% of lanthanum and 34.7% of neodymium, with an electric consumption of 12.6 W h. In light of this view, electromining showed to be a feasible technique to remove rare earth elements from soils with low energy consumption.
