This research aims to develop new 3D (three-dimensional) printable resins made from methacrylate salts of imidazole, 2-methyl-imidazole, and 1-methyl-imidazole, with glycerol trimethacrylate serving as a crosslinking agent. With their backbone structure, these resins are easy and rapid to prepare, offering an alternative to conventional ones. Reinforced with terpene-based additives such as α-pinene, (R)-limonene, trans-ethyl cinnamate, and safrole, they present a diverse range of fifteen resin formulations. Each resin underwent printability tests, including printing tests, which revealed accuracy, precision, and dimensional stability compared to a commercial resin and its respective digital 3D models. Mechanical tests further demonstrated that adding alpha-pinene and (R)-limonene enhanced hardness, while safrole had the opposite effect. Resins containing α-pinene and (R)-limonene as additives showcased an elasticity modulus comparable to the commercial resin. According to mechanical tests, a cytocompatibility assay was conducted for the best resin, showing that this resin holds potential for developing drug delivery systems and other biomedical devices. Acetic acid bacteria (AAB) are versatile organisms that catalyze the conversion of a wide range of carbon sources into biomolecules of great industrial interest. In this study, we exploited the ability of Gluconobacter spp. to synthesize levans. Among the isolated strains, Gluconobacter cerinus UELBM11 produced approximately 14.0 g L−1 of levan under non-optimized conditions. Gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), and nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses confirmed that levan obtained from G. cerinus UELBM11 consisted of a β-(2→6)-D-fructose backbone with some β-(2→1) ramifications. The average molecular weight (Mw) of the purified levan was 8.78 × 105 Da. Thermogravimetric/differential thermogravimetric (TGA/DTG) analysis indicated high thermal stability, with the maximum decomposition rate observed at 227.44 °C. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a microporous morphology, and the antioxidant activity assays demonstrated that levan had a high scavenging capacity of 2,2’-azino-bis (3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) and hydroxyl radicals. Therefore, it has been demonstrated the levan produced by G. cerinus UELBM11 is a promising natural antioxidant and, owing to its microporosity and excellent thermal properties and stability, is a potential candidate as an additive in cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, and food products. RESUMO: No estado do Amazonas cultiva-se, tradicionalmente, a laranjeira ‘Pêra’ sobre o limoeiro ‘Cravo’. O uso restrito de uma única combinação de copa-porta-enxerto tem deixado os pomares locais vulneráveis à condições adversas e a incidência de pragas e doenças, podendo interferir negativamente tanto na produtividade como na qualidade dos frutos e sustentabilidade citrícola do Estado. A ampliação do número de combinações-copas-porta-enxertos torna-se uma alternativa viável para superar tais problemas. Para atender a esta demanda dos produtores de citros foram avaliadas 30 combinações com 10 copas e três porta-enxertos no sexto e sétimo ano após o plantio das mudas no campo, no município de Rio Preto da Eva, AM. Nesse experimento foram avaliadas: a produtividade, o rendimento de suco, os sólidos solúveis, o pH, a acidez titulável, o ratio e o índice tecnológico. A copa ‘Pineapple’ com os porta-enxertos tangerineira ‘Sunki Tropical’ e ‘BRS Bravo’ podem ser alternativas produtivas em relação a tradicional combinação laranja ‘Pêra’ sob limoeiro ‘Cravo’ no Amazonas. A copa laranja ‘Lima’ com os porta-enxertos tangerineira ‘Sunki Tropical’, limoeiro ‘Cravo Santa Cruz’ e ‘BRS Bravo’ podem ser alternativas para o mercado in natura no estado. As combinações que apresentaram boa qualidade do fruto são as copas ‘Pêra’, ‘Salustiana’, ‘Valência Tuxpan’ e ‘Westin’ com o porta-enxerto ‘BRS Bravo’, e a copa ‘Pêra D6’ com o porta-enxerto limoeiro ‘Cravo Santa Cruz’. ABSTRACT: In the state of Amazonas, the ‘Pêra’ orange scion is traditionally cultivated on ‘Rangpur’ lime tree. The restricted use of a single scion-rootstock combination has left local orchards vulnerable to adverse conditions and incidence of pests and diseases, which may negatively interfere with both productivity and fruit quality and the citrus activity sustainability in the state. The expansion of the number of scion-rootstock combinations becomes a viable alternative to overcome such problems. To meet this demand from citrus growers, 30 combinations with 10 scions and 3 rootstocks were evaluated in the sixth and seventh year after planting seedlings in the field in the municipality of Rio Preto da Eva, AM. In this experiment, productivity, juice yield, soluble solids, pH, titratable acidity, ratio and technological index were evaluated. ‘Pineapple’ scion with ‘Sunki Tropical’ and ‘BRS Bravo’ rootstocks can be productive alternatives in relation to traditional ‘Pêra’ orange scion under ‘Rangpur’ lime combination in the state of Amazonas. ‘Lima’ orange with ‘Sunki Tropical’ mandarin, ‘Rangpur lime SC’ and ‘BRS Bravo’ lime rootstocks can be alternatives for the fresh market in the state. Combinations that showed good fruit quality are ‘Pêra’, ‘Salustiana’, ‘Valência Tuxpan’ and ‘Westin’ scions with ‘BRS Bravo’ rootstock, and ‘Pêra D6’ scion with ‘Rangpur lime SC’ lemon rootstock. These combinations are alternatives for the diversification of orchards in the state of Amazonas. ABSTRACT The intensification of cattle post-weaning phase in tropical pastures depends on supplementation strategies. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of increasing levels of concentrate supplement on the intake, apparent digestibility of nutrients, feeding behavior, and performance of Girolando steers on tropical pasture during the post-weaning phase in the rainy season. Forty uncastrated male Girolando steers, initially weighing 266.62 ± 32.95 kg and aged 11 mo, were allocated into four concentrate supplement levels: 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4%, and 0.5% body weight. The steers grazed on Urochloa brizantha (Hochst. ex A. Rich.) R.D. Webster ‘Marandu’ pasture. The intakes of supplement DM, non-fibrous carbohydrates (NFC), and total digestible nutrients increased linearly (P < 0.05) with the level of supplement offered to the steers. In a similar response, the apparent digestibility of DM and NFC from the diet also rose linearly (P < 0.05). Grazing time, total feeding time, and total chewing time decreased (P < 0.05) with the increasing levels of concentrate supplementation. In contrast, the time expended on feeding at the trough, biting rate, and the time taken to ruminate each cud increased (P < 0.05) with the supplementation level. Final body weight and average daily gain increased linearly (P < 0.05) with increasing concentrate supplementation. We recommend supplying concentrate supplement at a level of 0.5% of the body weight of steers on tropical pasture during the post-weaning phase in the rainy season.

Resumo A ideia de que a arte e a educação podem andar de mãos dadas e de que juntas podem operar transformações no desenvolvimento da pessoa humana e na sociedade em que vivemos não é nova. Desde Platão que vários teóricos apontam as mais-valias da educação com a arte como base da formação holística das pessoas e como forma de criar envolvimento comprometido e transformação social. Acreditamos que o papel do mediador cultural e artístico a trabalhar no seio da escola pode ser um fator fundamental neste processo e que pela sua ação podem ocorrer transformações sociais e educacionais na escola e na comunidade. Arte é vida! Arte, cultura, vida não podem no nosso entender aparecer de forma espartilhada e compartimentada. Acreditamos no papel do mediador cultural e artístico a operar em contexto educativo e comunitário como forma de impulsionar processos de participação ativa, informada e a criação de espaços de diálogo e respeito pelos dissensos e como promotor de vontades de cidadania ativa, reforço do sentimento de pertença a uma comunidade, valorização da diversidade cultural e humana e inclusão. O presente artigo reflete a base teoricamente informada desta perspetiva fundamentada pela prática profissional da autora ao longo da sua experiência de mais de dez anos nos campos da mediação artístico-cultural em contexto educativo e comunitário.

Abstract The idea that art and education should go hand in hand and the transformation that art can operate in the development of the human person and in the society in which we live is not new. Since Plato, several theorists have pointed out the added value of education with art as the basis for the holistic formation of people and as a way of creating engaged involvement and social transformation. We believe that the role of the cultural and artistic mediator working within the school can be a fundamental factor in this process and that, through their action, social and educational transformations can occur in the school and in the community. Art and life! Art, culture, life cannot, in our understanding, appear in a corseted and compartmentalized way. We believe in the role of the cultural and artistic mediator operating in an educational and community context as a way to boost processes of active, informed participation and the creation of spaces for dialogue and respect for dissent and as a promoter of active citizenship, strengthening the feeling of belonging to a community, appreciation of cultural and human diversity and inclusion. This article reflects the first-person perspective of more than a decade as a professional at the service of the school and the community and of the projects developed in an educational and professional context since 2009.

Resumen La idea de que el arte y la educación deben ir de la mano y la transformación que el arte puede operar en el desarrollo de la persona humana y de la sociedad en la que vivimos no es nueva. Desde Platón, diversos teóricos han señalado el valor añadido de la educación con el arte como base para la formación integral de las personas y como forma de generar implicación comprometida y transformación social. Creemos que el papel del mediador cultural y artístico que trabaja dentro de la escuela puede ser un factor fundamental en este proceso y que, a través de su acción, se pueden producir transformaciones sociales y educativas en la escuela y en la comunidad. ¡Arte y vida! El arte, la cultura, la vida no pueden, a nuestro entender, aparecer de forma encorsetada y compartimentada. Creemos en el papel del mediador cultural y artístico que actúa en un contexto educativo y comunitario como forma de impulsar procesos de participación activa e informada y de creación de espacios de diálogo y respeto al disenso y como promotor de una ciudadanía activa, fortaleciendo lo sentimiento de pertenencia a una comunidad, valoración de la diversidad cultural y humana e inclusión. Esta artigo refleja la perspectiva en primera persona de más de una década como profesional al servicio de la escuela y la comunidad y de los proyectos desarrollados en un contexto educativo y profesional desde 2009.

Résumé L'idée que l'art et l'éducation doivent aller de pair et que l'art peut opérer des transformations dans le développement de la personne humaine et dans la société dans laquelle nous vivons n'est pas nouvelle. Depuis Platon, plusieurs théoriciens ont souligné la valeur ajoutée de l'éducation ayant l'art comme base de la formation holistique des personnes et comme moyen de créer une implication engagée et une transformation sociale. Nous croyons que le rôle du médiateur culturel et artistique œuvrant au sein de l'école peut être un facteur fondamental dans ce processus et que, par son action, des transformations sociales et éducatives peuvent se produire à l'école et dans la communauté. L'art et la vie ! L'art, la culture, la vie ne peuvent, à notre sens, apparaître de manière corsetée et cloisonnée. Nous croyons au rôle du médiateur culturel et artistique opérant dans un contexte éducatif et communautaire comme moyen de stimuler les processus de participation active et informée et la création d'espaces de dialogue et de respect de la dissidence et comme promoteur de la citoyenneté active, renforçant le sentiment d'appartenance à une communauté, appréciation de la diversité et de l'inclusion culturelle et humaine. Cet article reflète la perspective à la première personne après plus d'une décennie en tant que professionnel au service de l'école et de la communauté et des projets développés dans un contexte éducatif et professionnel depuis 2009.

Resumo Introdução: O manejo do hiperparat-ireoidismo secundário (HPTS) é uma tarefa desafiadora com diversos fatores que contribuem para o fracasso do tratamento. A terapia calcimimética revolucionou o manejo do HPTS, levando a alterações nas indicações e no momento apropriado da paratireoidectomia (PTX) em todo o mundo. Métodos: Comparamos taxas de resposta às abordagens clínica vs. cirúrgica do HPTS em pacientes em diálise de manutenção (DRC 5D) e pacientes transplantados renais (TxR). Foi realizada uma análise retrospectiva dos achados de um ano de acompanhamento. Pacientes com DRC 5D foram divididos em 3 grupos de acordo com a estratégia de tratamento: paratireoidectomia, manejo clínico sem cinacalcete (denominado padrão - P) e com cinacalcete (P + CIN). Os pacientes com TxR foram divididos em 3 grupos: PTX, CIN (uso de cinacalcete) e observação (OBS). Resultados: Na DRC 5D, encontramos uma redução significativa do paratormônio (PTH) em todos os grupos. Apesar de todos os grupos apresentarem um PTH mais elevado no início do estudo, identificamos uma redução mais acentuada no grupo PTX. Com relação ao HPTS grave, a diferença entre os grupos foi evidentemente maior: 31%, 14% e 80% dos grupos P, P + CIN e PTX atingiram níveis adequados de PTH, respectivamente (p< 0,0001). Com relação à população TxR, embora a diferença não tenha sido tão impressionante, também foi observada uma taxa maior de sucesso no grupo PTX. Conclusão: A PTX ainda parece ser a melhor escolha de tratamento para o HPTS, especialmente em pacientes com doenças prolongadas em cenários sem recursos. Abstract Introduction: Management of secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) is a challenging endeavor with several factors contruibuting to treatment failure. Calcimimetic therapy has revolutionized the management of SHPT, leading to changes in indications and appropriate timing of parathyroidectomy (PTX) around the world. Methods: We compared response rates to clinical vs. surgical approaches to SHPT in patients on maintenance dialysis (CKD 5D) and in kidney transplant patients (Ktx). A retrospective analysis of the one-year follow-up findings was carried out. CKD 5D patients were divided into 3 groups according to treatment strategy: parathyroidectomy, clinical management without cinacalcet (named standard - STD) and with cinacalcet (STD + CIN). Ktx patients were divided into 3 groups: PTX, CIN (cinacalcet use), and observation (OBS). Results: In CKD 5D we found a significant parathormone (PTH) decrease in all groups. Despite all groups had a higher PTH at baseline, we identified a more pronounced reduction in the PTX group. Regarding severe SHPT, the difference among groups was evidently wider: 31%, 14% and 80% of STD, STD + CIN, and PTX groups reached adequate PTH levels, respectively (p<0.0001). Concerning the Ktx population, although the difference was not so impressive, a higher rate of success in the PTX group was also observed. Conclusion: PTX still seems to be the best treatment choice for SHPT, especially in patients with prolonged diseases in unresourceful scenarios. Abstract How can we resume a development project that embraces urban reform and the right to the city? We seek to outline a theoretical and analytical framework consistent with this possibility, understanding that Brazilian cities can function as vectors for the reconstruction of the nation after the recent period of successive crises, especially the urban crisis. ABSTRACT Zinnia sp. and hairy beggartick (Bidens pilosa) plants exhibiting symptoms of possible virus infection were found in the municipality of Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, São Paulo State, Brazil. Flexuous filamentous particles and cytoplasmatic inclusions typical of potyvirus infection were observed by transmission electron microscopy, respectively, in leaf extracts and cells of symptomatic leaves. Infection of both plants with bidens mottle virus (BiMoV) was confirmed by RT-PCR using potyvirus universal primers, followed by nucleotide sequencing of the amplicons. The nearly complete genome sequence of the Brazilian isolate, named BiMoV-BR, is 9700 nucleotides long and shares 95.6 % identity with the corresponding nucleotide sequence of a BiMoV isolate from the United States. BiMoV-BR was mechanically transmitted and caused systemic infection on plants of Zinnia sp., hairy beggarstick, sunflower (Helianthus annuus), and lettuce (Lactuca sativa). Myzus persicae transmitted the virus to Zinnia sp. plants with efficacy of 8 % and 42 %, using one and ten aphids per plant, respectively. This is the first detection of BiMoV in Brazil. Résumé Le succès ou l’échec des candidats à la réélection aux postes de maire lors des élections de 2020 a-t-il été déterminé par le contexte de la pandémie ? Pour répondre à cette question, nous avons testé l’influence des variables provenant de cinq dimensions : les caractéristiques individuelles des candidats, les facteurs politiques municipaux, les questions socio-économiques et de gouvernance, ainsi que les indicateurs contextuels de la pandémie sur les performances de ceux qui ont tenté de renouveler leur mandat. La recherche a porté sur 3032 municipalités où les maires ont participé à la course électorale. Les facteurs suivants ont eu une influence positive sur la réélection : la taille de la population, les dépenses de campagne, les dépenses de santé et d’éducation, ainsi que le recrutement de médecins pendant la pandémie. Des effets négatifs ont été observés pour la concurrence électorale et le genre du chef de l’exécutif. Para responder a esa pregunta, analizamos la influencia de variables de cinco dimensiones: características individuales de los postulantes, factores políticos municipales, cuestiones socioeconómicas y de gobernanza, así como indicadores contextuales de la pandemia sobre el desempeño de aquellos que intentaron renovar sus mandatos. La investigación abarcó 3032 municipios en los que los alcaldes participaron de la contienda electoral. Para responder essa questão, testamos a influência de variáveis de cinco dimensões: características individuais dos postulantes, fatores políticos municipais, questões socioeconômicas e de governança, assim como indicadores contextuais da pandemia sobre o desempenho daqueles que tentaram renovar os seus mandatos. Abstract Did the COVID-19 pandemic affect the success or failure of candidates for reelection in the 2020 municipal elections? We attempt to answer this question by tested the influence of five-dimension variables: individual candidate traits, municipal political factors, socioeconomic and governance issues, as well as contextual indicators of the pandemic on the performance of those running for a second term. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a qualidade de vida e o nível de estresse relacionada à função visual após a cirurgia de catarata pediátrica em um hospital público brasileiro. Métodos: Estudo prospectivo em crianças de seis a 14 anos submetidas à cirurgia de catarata. A Escala de Stresse Infantil e o Questionário de Função Visual em Crianças foram usados para avaliar o nível de estresse e a qualidade de vida, respectivamente. Ambos os instrumentos foram aplicados por duas psicólogas antes e após a cirurgia. O exame oftalmológico foi realizado por dois oftalmologistas. Os dados coletados no pré e pós-operatório foram comparados. Resultados: Vinte e três crianças (32 olhos) foram incluídas no estudo, nove delas apresentavam catarata bilateral. A média de idade na cirurgia foi de 9,65±2,26 (6 a 14) anos. Um mês após a cirurgia, o equivalente esférico foi de -0,90 ± 1,66D e a acuidade visual corrigida a distância foi de 0,13 ± 0,10 (0-0,3) LogMAR em casos bilaterais e 0,50 ± 0,39 (0-1,3) LogMAR em casos unilaterais (p<0.01). De acordo com a Escala de Stresse Infantil, 77,7% dos casos de catarata bilaterais, e 57,1% dos casos unilaterais mantiveram o nível de estresse e 34,7% das crianças melhoraram o nível de estresse. A análise do Questionário de Função Visual em Crianças foi baseada em pontuações para saúde geral, saúde geral da visão, competência, personalidade e tratamento. Após a cirurgia de catarata, 78,2% dos pacientes melhoraram ou mantiveram o escore do Questionário de Função Visual em Crianças na saúde geral, 82,6% na saúde geral da visão, 95,6% na competência, 56,5% na personalidade e 78,2% no tratamento. Conclusão: A cirurgia de catarata pediátrica melhora a função visual e a qualidade de vida em pacientes submetidos a procedimento cirúrgico, sem aumentar o nível de estresse. ABSTRACT Purpose: To evaluate the quality of life and stress level related to visual function following pediatric cataract surgery in a Brazilian public hospital. Methods: This prospective study analyzed children aged 6-14 years old who underwent cataract surgery. The Childhood Stress Scale and Children’s Visual Function Questionnaire (CVFQ) were used to assess stress levels and quality of life, respectively. Both instruments were applied by two psychologists before and after the surgery. Eye examination was performed by two ophthalmologists. Preoperative and postoperative data were compared. Results: In total, 23 children (32 eyes) were enrolled in the study, of which 9 had bilateral cataracts. The average age group at the time of surgery was 9.65 ± 2.26 (6-14) years old. One month after the surgery, the spherical equivalent was -0.90 ± 1.66D, and the corrected distance visual acuity was 0.13 ± 0.10 (0-0.3) LogMAR in bilateral cases and 0.50 ± 0.39 (0-1.3) LogMAR in unilateral cases (p<0.01). According to the Childhood Stress Scale, 77.7% of the bilateral cases and 57.1% of the unilateral cases had stable stress levels, and 34.7% of the children improved their stress level. The analysis of the CVFQ was based on scores for general health, general vision health, competence, personality, and treatment. RESUMO A demodicose felina por Demodex cati é uma doença parasitária rara, caracterizada por dermatite local ou generalizada e menos comumente por otite. Felino, macho, castrado, sem raça definida, de 11 anos, apresentou prurido cervical progressivo com alopecia em região caudolateral à orelha direita e eritema leve, escoriações, secreção ceruminosa amarronzada e reflexo otopodal. Apresentava histórico de infecção pelo vírus da imunodeficiência felina (FIV) e complexo gengivite-estomatite felina (CGEF), além de uso contínuo de prednisolona. ABSTRACT Feline demodicosis caused by Demodex cati is a rare parasitic disease, characterized by local or generalized dermatitis and less commonly by otitis. A feline, male, castrated, mixed breed, 11 years old, presented progressive cervical pruritus with alopecia in the caudolateral region of the right ear and mild erythema, abrasions, brownish ceruminous secretion and otopodal reflex. He had a history of feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) infection and feline gingivitis stomatitis complex (GSC), in addition to continuous use of prednisolone. Nos estratos socioeconômicos (A/B), a variável pais/responsáveis imigrantes foi associada à ausência de vacinação (RP = 1,91; IC95% 1,09;3,37); nos estratos C/D, crianças de cor amarela (RP = 4,69; IC95% 2,30;9,57), 4ª ordem de nascimento ou mais (RP = 1,68; IC95% 1,06;2,66), não frequentar creche/berçário (RP = 1,67; IC95% 1,24;2,24) e mãe com trabalho remunerado (RP = 1,42; IC95% 1,16;1,74) foram associadas à ausência de vacinação. Conclusão Cobertura da hepatite A abaixo da meta (95%), sugerindo-se considerar especificidades dos estratos sociais.

ABSTRACT Objective To estimate hepatitis A vaccination coverage in 24-month-old children and identify factors associated with non-vaccination. Methods This was a survey involving a sample stratified by socioeconomic strata in capital cities (2020-2022), with coverage estimates and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI), the factor analysis was performed using the prevalence ratio (PR) by means of Poisson regression. Results Among 31,001 children, hepatitis A coverage was 88.1% (95%CI 86.8;89.2). Regarding socioeconomic strata (A/B), the variable immigrant parents/guardians was associated with non-vaccination (PR = 1.91; 95%CI 1.09;3.37); in strata C/D, children of Asian race/skin color (PR = 4.69; 95%CI 2.30;9.57), fourth-born child or later (PR = 1.68; 95%CI 1.06;2 .66), not attending daycare/nursery (PR = 1.67; 95%CI 1.24;2.24) and mother with paid work (PR = 1.42; 95%CI 1.16;1.74) were associated with non-vaccination. Conclusion Hepatitis A coverage was below the target (95%), suggesting that specificities of social strata should be taken into consideration.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a cobertura vacinal segundo estrato social, em crianças até 24 meses de vida, residentes no município de Londrina (PR). Métodos Inquérito de base populacional, realizado entre em 2021 e 2022, em que se avaliou a cobertura vacinal e os aspectos sociodemográficos das mães e das famílias, através do teste qui-quadrado de Pearson. Resultados Em uma amostra de 456 crianças, a cobertura vacinal completa variou de acordo com o estrato social, sendo no estrato A de 36,0% (IC95% 26,8;57,8); no estrato B, de 59,5% (IC95% 26,1;86); no estrato C, de 66,2% (IC95% 51,7;78,1); e no estrato D, de 70,0% (IC95% 56,1;81,0). Conclusão A análise da cobertura vacinal indicou o estrato social A como o de maior risco para doenças prevenidas por vacinas.

Methods This was a population-based survey conducted between 2021 and 2022, in which vaccination coverage and sociodemographic aspects of mothers and families were evaluated using Pearson’s chi-square test. Results In a sample of 456 children, complete vaccination coverage varied according to social strata, being 36.0% (95%CI 26.8;57.8); in stratum A; 59.5% (95%CI 26.1;86); in stratum B; 66.2% (95%CI 51.7;78.1); in stratum C; and 70.0% (95%CI 56.1;81.0) in stratum D. Conclusion The analysis of vaccination coverage indicated that social stratum A is at highest risk for vaccine-preventable diseases.

Abstract Diabetic-metabolic syndrome (MetS-D) has a high prevalence worldwide, in which an association with the rupture of the intestinal epithelium barrier function (IEBF) has been pointed out, but the functional and morphological properties are still not well understood. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of acute hyperglycemia diabetes on intestinal tight junction proteins, metabolic failure, intestinal ion and water transports, and IEBF parameters. Diabetes was induced in male Rattus norvegicus (200-310 g) with 0.5 mL of streptozotocin (70 mg/kg). Glycemic and clinical parameters were evaluated every 7 days, and intestinal parameters were evaluated on the 14th day. The MetS-D animals showed a clinical pattern of hyperglycemia, with increases in the area of villi and crypts, lactulose:mannitol ratio, myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity, and intestinal tissue concentrations of malondialdehyde (MDA), but showed a reduction in reduced glutathione (GSH) when these parameters were compared to the control. The MetS-D group had increased secretion of Na+, K+, Cl-, and water compared to the control group in ileal tissue. Furthermore, we observed a reduction in mRNA transcript of claudin-2, claudin-15, and NHE3 and increases of SGLT-1 and ZO-1 in the MetS-D group. These results showed that MetS-D triggered intestinal tissue inflammation, oxidative stress, complex alterations in gene regulatory protein transcriptions of intestinal transporters and tight junctions, damaging the IEBF and causing hydroelectrolyte secretion. Abstract Given the high content of unsaturated fatty acids that high oleic sunflower oil has and thinking in terms of healthiness and innovation, this study aimed to characterize organogels and to investigate the effect of the addition of organogels in chocolate spreads to reduce saturated fatty acids (SFA). The characterization of the organogels was carried out in terms of solids fat content (SFC), crystallization kinetics, thermal behavior, polymorphism, microstructure, hardness, and rheological properties. The organogels analysed showed 5.22% to 6.20% solids at 10 °C, melted at 45 °C, and dropped to < 2.34% at 37.5 °C. Induction time was 4 to 8 minutes, with max solids at 2.29% to 4.72%. The melting and crystallization curves could be subdivided into different regions, which reflected the different classes of triacylglycerol present in the organogels. All organogels showed β polymorphism. The average diameter of the organogels was less than 30 μm, thus minimizing the perception of grittiness in the mouth resulting from the lipid phase. Hardness values varied between 3.53 and 4.58 N. The elastic modulus (G’) value was greater than the viscous modulus (G”), indicating the behavior of a solid material. The results of chocolate spreads were characterized by consistency, distribution particle size, rheological properties and dynamic turbidimetry. The range of consistency of spreads ranged from 13.83 to 631.60 gF. All chocolate spreads formulated with organogels showed particle size between 14.59 and 46.23 µm at index d 0.5 and d 0.9, respectively. As for the rheological parameters, the G' value was observed superior to G”, indicating properties of solid materials. The chocolate spreads with organogels analyzed showed characteristic stability. There was no exudation of liquid oil in the stabilization period for 36 days, thus the chocolate spreads showed a predominant elastic behavior. This characterization proves to be fundamental for the reformulation of products in terms of greater healthiness. innovation SFA. SFA .
