RESUMO A restauração ecológica é uma forma de mitigar os efeitos negativos da fragmentação e perda de habitat. Essa prática permite a conservação de espécies-chave, como Ocotea porosa, uma árvore nativa da Floresta com Araucária e extremamente ameaçada de extinção. Um ponto fundamental em projetos de restauração é a fonte de sementes bem como as diretrizes para a coleta. Quando realizada sob critérios técnicos, a coleta permite a manutenção da diversidade genética e potencial adaptativo nos plantios de restauração. Diante do exposto, o objetivo do presente estudo foi caracterizar aspectos da demografia, genética e fenologia reprodutiva de uma população de O. porosa, visando gerar informações para definição de áreas e critérios para a coleta de sementes. Foi instalada uma parcela de 16 hectares no munícipio de Passos Maia, Santa Catarina e realizado levantamento demográfico de árvores com Diâmetro à Altura do Peito (DAP) > 15 cm. Foram estimados índices de diversidade e de estrutura genética interna (EGI), utilizando-se marcadores isoenzimáticos. A fenologia reprodutiva de 67 indivíduos foi avaliada durante 8 meses. O fragmento estudado apresentou uma alta densidade de indivíduos (10,7 ind. ha-1), com uma distribuição diamétrica similar a normal. O padrão fenológico da espécie é sazonal regular e anual. A população avaliada apresentou uma alta diversidade genética, elevado índice de fixação, além de uma EGI significativa até 80 metros de distância. Conclui-se que o fragmento avaliado pode ser utilizado como área de coleta de sementes. O mesmo possui alta diversidade genética, densidade e tamanho de área suficiente para conter várias demes. ABSTRACT Ecological restoration mitigates the negative effects of fragmentation and habitat loss. This practice allows the conservation of key species, such as Ocotea porosa, a tree native to the Araucaria Forest and extremely endangered. A key point in restoration projects is the source of seeds, as well as guidelines for collection. When carried out under technical criteria, the collection allows the maintenance of genetic diversity and adaptive potential in restoration plantations. Given the importance of seed source, genetic diversity, and adaptive potential, this study aimed to define areas and criteria for collecting seeds by characterizing the demography, genetics, and reproductive phenology of an O. porosa population. Resumo O camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia, Myrtaceae) possui as mais altas concentrações de vitamina C relatadas em frutíferas nativas da Amazônia, com uma demanda crescente nos mercados nacional e internacional. Visando aos processos de manejo e à conservação da espécie, estudou-se a diversidade de camu-camu em áreas cultivadas e não cultivadas, a partir da caracterização físico-química de frutos. Foram avaliados 2.250 frutos de 87 plantas procedentes de 6 localidades do distrito de Tarapacá (Amazonas – Colômbia) e do banco de germoplasma de frutíferas amazônicas de Agrosavia (Meta – Colômbia). Encontrou-se alta variabilidade físico-química entre e dentro das localidades, com frutos superiores nas localidades onde foram amostradas plantas não cultivadas, destacando-se Pechiboy. Os resultados por correlações e componentes principais permitiram identificar as variáveis graus Brix, vitamina C, massa de fruto e rendimento de polpa como as mais úteis para a seleção intraespecífica de plantas. Foram identificadas plantas com valores promissores de graus Brix (8,2±0,88; máximo 10,94), massa de fruto (14,4±1,2 g; máx. 18,4 g) e rendimento de polpa (0,82±0,02; máx. 0,87). Essas plantas podem ser consideradas como possíveis matrizes para futuros processos de melhoramento. Concluiu-se que existem em Tarapacá plantas com características relevantes para processos de comercialização e de melhoramento da espécie.

Abstract Camu-camu (Myrciaria dubia, Myrtaceae) has the highest reported vitamin C concentrations of any native Amazonian fruit tree species, with increasing demand in domestic and international markets. With the goal of aiding management and conservation programs, we studied the diversity of camu-camu in cultivated and uncultivated areas, based on physicochemical characterization of the fruits. We evaluated 2,250 fruits from 87 plants from six localities of the Tarapacá district (Amazonas, Colombia) and from the Amazonian fruit germplasm bank of Agrosavia (Meta, Colombia). We found high physicochemical variability within and among localities, and superior fruits in the localities where non-cultivated plants were sampled, especially Pechiboy. Using correlations and principal component analyses, we identified the variables Brix value, ascorbic acid content, fruit weight and pulp yield as the most useful for intraspecific selection of plants. The most promising plants presented Brix values of 8.2 ± 0.88 (maximum 10.9), fruit mass of 14.4 ± 1.2 g (max. 18.4 g) and pulp yields of 0.82 ± 0.02 (max. 0.87). These plants can be considered as possible sources for future breeding work. We conclude that there are plants in Tarapacá with relevant characteristics for commercialization and improvement of the species.

Abstract The diameter increments of Euterpe edulis was characterized in order to understand the influence of reproduction and forest basal area on its growth and to represent its development through polynomial models. For up to 14 years three populations were studied using permanent plots. To identify the effect of reproduction, the diameter increments of young and reproductive palms, as well as the effect of productivity on growth, were compared. To characterize the effect of basal area, subpopulations under different basal area conditions were compared, as was the effect of their evolution over time. Reproductive activity and forest basal area interfered with plant growth, being smaller in more productive plants and under more advanced successional conditions. Fifth-degree models were more suitable for ecological studies or for fruit harvesting. Quadratic models were restricted to estimates of palm heart management.

Resumo Podocarpus lambertii (Podocarpaceae) é conhecido popularmente como pinheiro-bravo. Ocorre em várias formações florestais da Mata Atlântica, principalmente na Floresta Ombrófila Mista. Devido à intensa exploração madeireira sofrida pela espécie, ela está presente na categoria “Quase ameaçada” da Lista Vermelha das Espécies Ameaçadas da IUCN. Diante disso, este estudo teve por objetivo caracterizar a diversidade e estrutura genética de 12 populações no Estado de Santa Catarina, a fim de gerar informações para fundamentar estratégias de conservação para a espécie. Foram coletadas folhas de 50 indivíduos adultos em cada população. Para acessar os níveis e a distribuição da diversidade genética, utilizaram-se 10 sistemas enzimáticos. As frequências alélicas, a porcentagem de locos polimórficos (P100%), as heterozigosidades observada (HO) e esperada (HE), o índice de fixação (f) e a divergência genética (FST) foram calculados com auxílio do programa FSTAT. Os 10 sistemas enzimáticos analisados revelaram 11 locos com um total de 32 alelos (A= 1,8). As populações de Podocarpus lambertii apresentaram baixa diversidade genética (P100% = 52,7; HO = 0,049; HE = 0,079). As frequências alélicas das populações apresentaram desvios significativos das esperadas em Equilíbrio de Hardy-Weinberg, evidenciando um deficit de heterozigotos (f = 0,374). A presença de alelos raros nas populações e uma divergência genética significativa (FST = 0,303) evidenciam um baixo fluxo gênico histórico e um grande risco de perda de diversidade. Os resultados obtidos indicam a necessidade de conservação in situ das várias populações de Podocarpus lambertii e de um aumento da conectividade entre as populações remanescentes.

Abstract Podocarpus lambertii (Podocarpaceae) is popularly known in Brazil as pinheiro-bravo. It occurs in several forest formations of the Atlantic Rain Forest, mainly in the Ombrophilous Mixed Forest. Due to the high wood exploitation suffered by the species, it is listed as ‘Almost Threatened’ in The IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. In face of this, the objective of the present study was to characterize the genetic diversity and structure of 12 natural populations of Podocarpus lambertii in Santa Catarina state, aiming to generate information for the definition of effective conservation strategies for the species. To access genetic diversity levels and distribution, it was used 10 allozymic systems. Along with the assistance of the software Fstat, the allelic frequencies (A), polymorphic loci percentage (P), observed heterozigosity (Ho), expected heterozigosity, fixation index (f) and genetic divergence between populations (FST) were calculated. In 11 loci 32 alleles (A= 1,8) were detected. A low genetic diversity was detected for Podocarpus lambertii populations (P100% = 52,7; H O = 0,049; H E = 0,079). The mean fixation index obtained (f = 0,374) indicates a deficit of heterozygous individuals. A high number of low frequency alleles was detected and together with the high genetic divergence (FST = 0,303), it points towards the necessity of in situ conservation of a large number of Podocarpus lambertii populations and the need to increase the connectivity among the remnant populations.

ABSTRACT Population genetics studies can provide knowledge in support of conservation efforts for plant populations. We studied the genetic diversity and structure in nine populations of Calophyllum brasiliense from Santa Catarina state, Brazil, aiming to establish conservation strategies. Allozymic markers were used to genotype about 50 individuals from each population. Moderate genetic diversity (mean = 0.135) and high fixation indexes (mean = 0.259) were estimated. Genetic divergence was significant, equal to 0.140, and a Bayesian analysis found two different genetic groupings. The results show clear signs of risk of diversity loss, basically related to restrictions of effective size. As conservation efforts, we suggested the use of C. brasiliense in restoration programs and for wood production. We also suggested the protection of its associated fauna and the development of more protected areas. Finally, populations 430, 640, 642 and 913 were indicated as priorities for conservation, based on their genetic indexes.

Resumo A erva-mate (Ilex paraguariensis St Hil.) é uma espécie arbórea nativa da Floresta com Araucária, de significativa importância econômica e social para grande parte da região sul do Brasil. O objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar as diferentes paisagens dos ervais do Planalto Norte Catarinense (PNC) - principal região produtora de erva--mate nativa de Santa Catarina - e sua relação com a conservação socioambiental, no âmbito da agricultura familiar. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas e avaliação de ervais, com base em roteiro específico. Foi possível identificar 13 tipos de unidades de paisagens dos ervais que constituem uma base diagnóstica para a gestão sustentável dos ervais e florestas. Concluiu-se que a atividade ervateira apresenta grande importância para a conservação socioambiental no PNC.

Abstract The Yerba Mate (Ilex paraguariensis St. Hil.) is a native arboreal species of forest formations that include the Araucaria Forest and is of considerable socio-economic importance in much of Brazil’s southern region. This paper aims to study the different landscapes of the native Yerba Mate systems (NYMS) in the main producing region of native Yerba Mate in the northern plateau region of the State of Santa Catarina, Brazil (Planalto Norte Catarinense - PNC) and their relationship to socio-environmental conservation in the context of family farming. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with family farmers and NYMS were evaluated following a specific route. Thirteen types of NYMS Landscape Units were identified as a diagnostic basis for the sustainable management of NYMS and forests. It proved possible to conclude that the Yerba Mate extraction activity is of great importance to socio-environmental conservation in the PNC.

Resumen La Yerba Mate (Ilex paraguariensis St Hil.) es una especie arbórea nativa de la Floresta de Araucaria de significativa importancia económica y social para gran parte de la región sur de Brasil. El objetivo de este trabajo fue estudiar los diferentes paisajes de los Yerba Mateles del Planalto Norte Catarinense (PNC) - principal región productora de Yerba Mate nativa de Santa Catarina - y su relación con la conservación socioambiental, en el ámbito de la agricultura familiar. Se realizaron entrevistas semiestructuradas y evaluación de Yerba Mateles basadas en un itinerario específico. Fue posible identificar 13 tipos de unidades de paisajes de los hierbales que se constituyen en una base diagnóstica para la gestión sostenible de los hierbales y bosques. Se concluye que la actividad Yerba Matetera presenta gran importancia para la conservación socioambiental en el PNC.

RESUMO No Brasil, a fim de minimizar o impacto da exploração de espécies arbóreas para fins comerciais em florestas nativas, plantios florestais têm sido implantados, majoritariamente, com espécies exóticas. A avaliação de tais cultivos quanto ao impacto proporcionado ao ambiente em atributos que podem garantir sua produtividade tem recebido maior atenção nos últimos anos, enquadrando-se neste contexto, o estudo de atributos microbiológicos. Deste modo, este trabalho teve como objetivo avaliar os impactos de plantios florestais de Pinus sp. (pinus) e Araucaria angustifolia (araucária) sobre os atributos microbiológicos do solo e a estrutura da comunidade bacteriana, que podem funcionar como indicadores da qualidade do solo. Para tanto, foram coletadas amostras de solo em três áreas na Floresta Nacional de Três Barras (FLONA), Santa Catarina (SC): uma área de floresta nativa (F), uma área de reflorestamento com araucária (A) e outra com pinus (P). Posteriormente, foi realizada a caracterização química e física do solo, além das análises microbiológicas: respiração basal, atividade da enzima β-glucosidase e fosfatase ácida, , e análise da estrutura de comunidades bacterianas PCR-DGGE. Os solos das três áreas de estudo apresentaram baixa fertilidade, destacando a importância dos micro-organismos para a manutenção desses ambientes. A atividade da enzima β-glucosidase e da fosfatase ácida foi maior nas áreas F e A, sugerindo maior presença de micro-organismos importantes para a ciclagem de nutrientes. A análise da estrutura da comunidade bacteriana demonstrou que há uma baixa divergência entre as áreas de pinus e araucária. Pode-se concluir que, com base nos atributos microbiológicos e na estrutura de comunidades bacterianas do solo, em plantios florestais da Mata Atlântica, a araucária destaca-se como melhor alternativa para reflorestamento, visando a manutenção da qualidade do solo.

ABSTRACT In Brazil, in order to minimize the impact of native forest exploitation for commercial purposes, forest plantations have been implemented mainly with exotic species. The evaluation of these crops as to the environmental impact on attributes that can guarantee their productivity has received more attention in the last years, and in this context, the study of microbiological attributes. This paper assesses the impact of Pinus sp. (pinus) and Araucaria angustifolia (araucária) forest plantations on the microbiological soil attributes and the structure of bacterial communities, which can act as indicators of soil quality. Soil samples have been collected on three areas of the National Forest of Três Barras, in Santa Catarina (SC) state: one area of native forest (F), one area of reforestation with araucária (A) and one area of reforestation with pinus (P). Later on, the soil was chemically and physically characterized and the microbiological analyses were performed, as basal respiration, β-glucosidase and fosfatase enzymatic activity and analysis of bacterial community structure by PCR-DGGE. Low fertility was presented on all three soils collected, highlighting the importance of microorganisms in order to maintain this environment. The β-glucosidase and fosfatase enzymatic activity were higher on the areas F and A, suggesting a higher presence of important microorganisms for nutrients cycling. The analysis of the bacteria community structure resulted in low distinction between the pinus and the araucária areas. This paper presents that based on the microbiological attributes and structure of bacterial communities of soil, in forest plantations of the Atlantic Forest, it is possible to conclude that araucária is the best alternative for reforestation, aiming the maintenance of soil quality.

RESUMO Este trabalho teve como objetivo estudar a fenologia reprodutiva de Euterpe edulis, a fim de fundamentar estratégias de conservação e manejo. A área de estudo encontra-se na Floresta Nacional de Ibirama, Santa Catarina, e apresenta 24 parcelas permanentes (40 x 40 m). As avaliações fenológicas ocorreram de out/2007 a out/2009, monitorando todos os indivíduos quanto ao número e tipo de inflorescências e infrutescências. Durante o estudo, foram registrados dois eventos reprodutivos. A floração ocorreu de outubro a março e as infrutescências com frutos maduros ocorreram de março a dezembro (2008) e de maio a outubro (2009), evidenciando a importância de Euterpe edulis como fonte de alimento para a fauna, disponível por até 10 meses do ano. O número médio de inflorescências produzidas por matriz/ano foi de 2,2 e destas, somente 55,7% formaram frutos maduros. Durante o desenvolvimento das infrutescências, observou-se também uma redução de 52% na quantidade de frutos. As plantas entraram em reprodução a partir dos 7 cm de diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP), produzindo quase que exclusivamente inflorescências masculinas e à medida que crescem em diâmetro, aumentam o número de inflorescências e infrutescências emitidas/planta e o número de frutos maduros formados por infrutescência, apresentando também uma participação mais constante nos eventos reprodutivos. A formação de maior número de infrutescências por matriz, também se correlacionou à redução das taxas de crescimento anual em DAP, no qual a produção registrada em 2008 apresentou forte correlação com o crescimento apresentado pelas plantas entre 1997 e 2008, o que agrega qualidade às estimativas de produção partindo do DAP.

ABSTRACT This work aimed to study the reproductive phenology of Euterpe edulis in order to support conservation and management strategies. The study area is located in the National Forest of Ibirama - SC state, and consists of 24 permanent plots (40x40m). The phenological evaluations took place from October 2007 to October 2009, and all individuals were monitored in regard to the number and type of inflorescences and infructescences. During the study, two reproductive events were registered. The flowering period occurred from October to March. Infructescences with ripe fruits were found from March to December (2008) and from May to October (2009), which highlights the importance of Euterpe edulis as a food source for fauna, since it is available for10 months out of the year. The average number of inflorescences produced per mother tree/year was 2.2, of these only 55.7% formed ripe fruits. During the development of infructescences, a reduction of 52% in fruit quantity was also observed. The plants become reproductive from 7 cm in diameter at breast height (DBH), producing almost exclusively male inflorescences, and as they grow in diameter the number of inflorescences and infructescences emitted per plant increases, as well as the number of ripe fruits formed by infructescences, presenting a more constant participation in reproductive events. The formation of a higher number of inflorescences per mother tree is also correlated to the reduction of annual growth rates in DBH, where production recorded in 2008 showed a strong correlation with plant growth registered between 1997 and 2008, adding quality to the production estimates from DBH.

RESUMO Plantar pinheiros-do-paraná para a produção de sementes - o pinhão - como qualquer outra atividade de manejo florestal, exige um planejamento, já que são necessários vários anos entre o plantio e o início da produção de sementes. Neste sentido, faltam informações ecológicas básicas. Muitos estudos de demografia de Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze pecam em não trazer uma simples informação ecológica: em quais tamanhos os indivíduos iniciam o processo reprodutivo? Foi investigada a relação entre o tamanho em diâmetro à altura do peito (DAP e medido a 1,3 m do solo) e o estágio reprodutivo e foi procurado estabelecer um tamanho em que grande parte dos indivíduos já entraram no processo reprodutivo como mais um subsídio para a construção de projetos de viabilidade técnica para a produção de sementes. Foram amostrados cinco sítios em remanescentes da Floresta com Araucárias distribuídos ao longo do estado de Santa Catarina e no total compuseram uma área amostral de 31,6 ha. Nesta área amostral foram amostrados todos os indivíduos de Araucaria angustifolia com altura > 1.5 m e verificado o estágio reprodutivo. Ao final foram obtidos 1843 indivíduos, sendo que 383 pertencentes ao sexo masculino e 299 ao feminino. Como resultado, existiu relação significativa entre o DAP e o estágio reprodutivo. O processo reprodutivo inicia dentro da classe de DAP de 15-20 cm, mas com apenas 8% dos indivíduos em fase reprodutiva. Para encontrar grande parte de indivíduos em estágio reprodutivo (90%), o DAP deve ser no mínimo de 35,2 cm. Como conclusão, é sugerido que projetos para a produção de sementes considerem esse tamanho como o início do processo reprodutivo. Araucaria angustifolia é uma espécie com grande potencial de utilização em sistemas agroflorestais na floresta ombrófila mista, e estas informações ecológicas básicas são importantes para possibilitar a construção de projetos voltados ao uso desta espécie. Este trabalho é um exemplo de uma alternativa para modelar a produção um produto florestal não-madeireiro para outras espécies e ecossistemas.

ABSTRACT In order to plant parana-pines (Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze) for seed production, as for any other forest management activity, planning is needed, especially because of the significant amount of waiting time between planting and seed collection. Consequently, there is a lack of basic ecological information. Several studies based on the demography of the A. angustifolia fail to divulge which sized individuals are reproductive. This paper investigated the relationship between the reproductive stage and the diameter at breast height (d.b.h.), and attempted to establish a size where a great portion of the individuals had already begun their reproductive process, a considerable step for subsidizing technical projects for seed production. Five study sites located in four municipalities in the state of Santa Catarina composed a total sample area of 31.6 ha. All A. angustifolia individuals with a height greater than 1.5 m within the sampled area were measured and classified according to their reproductive phase. A total of 1,843 individuals were obtained: 383 were male, and 299 were female. There was a significant relationship between the d.b.h. and the sexual maturity of the individuals. The reproductive process begins inside the DAP class of 15-20 cm, but only 8% of the individuals reproducing. In order to find a greater number of individuals in reproduction, a minimum d.b.h. of 35.2 cm is required. In conclusion, projects that produce araucaria nuts should consider this d.b.h. size to commence production. This species has great potential for agroforestry systems within the Araucaria Forests. This basic ecological information is also important for the construction of projects that use this species, and consequently may contribute to the conservation of this forest. This can be used as a study case for other forest species and ecosystems to explore the potential production of non-timber forest products of native resources.

Drimys brasiliensis Miers, conhecida como cataia ou casca-de-anta, é uma árvore nativa da Floresta Ombrófila Mista. Sua casca tem sido utilizada medicinalmente a partir da exploração de árvores em populações naturais. O objetivo deste trabalho foi a realização de estudos de biologia reprodutiva de Drimys brasiliensis visando fundamentar estratégias de exploração sustentável e conservação, possibilitando a geração de renda a partir da exploração deste recurso florestal não madeireiro. Foram realizados estudos de fenologia reprodutiva (296 árvores acompanhadas por 30 meses), ecologia de polinização e dispersão de sementes, e biologia floral. O período de florescimento ocorre durante o verão, com pico em janeiro. Frutos verdes estão presentes o ano inteiro, amadurecendo com o aumento das temperaturas. Ocorre uma sobreposição das fenofases fruto verde e fruto maduro oriundas de florescimentos de anos diferentes. Com isso, frutos maduros estão disponíveis o ano inteiro para a fauna. Os himenópteros são os visitantes florais com maior potencial de fluxo gênico via pólen, porém, a sua frequência é baixa, assim como a dos demais visitantes, apesar da alta produção de flores e da alta viabilidade dos grãos de pólen. Com isso, a alta produção de frutos observada é possivelmente decorrente da autofecundação. Os dispersores primários de frutos são raros, tendo sido observados pássaros. Entretanto, a dispersão secundária das sementes que chegam ao solo por barocoria é alta.

Drimys brasiliensis Miers, locally known as "cataia" or "casca-de-anta", is a native tree of "Floresta Ombrófila Mista", in Brazil. Its bark has been used for medicine, through the exploitation of plants of natural populations. The present work aimed to study aspects of reproductive biology of Drimys brasiliensis in order to establish strategies for sustainable management and conservation, in order to generate alternative income from the exploitation of this non-timber forest product. Studies about reproductive phenology (296 plants during 2 years and a half), pollination and dispersal ecology, and floral biology were realized. The flowering season occurred the summer, with its peak in January. There are unripe fruits throughout the year, becoming ripe fruits as the temperature increases. There is a superposition of unripe and ripe fruit phenology from different flowering seasons. Ripe fruits are then, available for animals throughout the year. Hymenopteras are flower visitors with major potential for gene flow via pollen, but their frequency is low, like others flowers visitors, despite the high flowers production and pollen viability. Therefore, the highest fruit production which was seen comes from self-fecundation. The primary fruit dispersers are rare, birds being observed. However, the secondary dispersal of seeds that reach the ground by barocory is high.

RESUMO Este estudo teve por objetivo determinar critérios e parâmetros para o inventário e classificação das formações secundárias no estado de Santa Catarina. Foram realizados inventários florestais em 160 parcelas em quatro diferentes estágios de sucessão natural, em todas as formações florestais do Estado. Entre os resultados, propõe-se que os inventários, para fins de classificação, incluam todos os indivíduos da parcela que tenham ≥ 5 cm de DAP e que a área basal seja a pricipal variável analizada para a classificação da formação vegetal em estádios sucessionais. Também propõe-se a reavaliação dos parâmetros definidos pela atual Resolução.

ABSTRACT This study was designed to determine the criteria and the parameters needed for the inventory and the classification of the secondary forest in the Atlantic coast of Santa Catarina state, in Brazil. The forest inventories were conducted in 160 plots at four different stages of natural succession, in all forest of the state. It is proposed that inventories needed for the legal classification of secondary forests should include all individuals of each plot ≥5cm DBH and that basal area should be the central variable used to assign these forest formations in successional stages. This study also suggests the need to review the current regulation parameters in this place for the forest classification of Mata Atlântica defined by the current resolution.

RESUMO O manejo da bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella Benth.) é prática comum em assentamentos rurais da região noroeste do planalto catarinense, constituindo-se em uma das principais atividades de geração de renda. Neste trabalho, buscou-se resgatar os parâmetros considerados importantes para este manejo, utilizando métodos de diagnóstico participativo em oficinas comunitárias junto a agricultores de assentamentos dos municípios de Calmon e Matos Costa. Os resultados apontam a existência de um número significativo de intervenções intencionais para a formação e manejo dos bracatingais, as quais indicam que estas formações são paisagens fortemente manejadas, mais próximas à condição de artefatos humanos do que de florestas propriamente nativas. Estas características deveriam ser consideradas na elaboração de instrumentos legais relativos a este manejo.

ABSTRACT The management of bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella Benth.) is a common practice in rural settlements in northwestern Santa Catarina state plateau, which is one of the main activities to generate income for the farmers. This work aims to identify the parameters considered important for this management, using participatory diagnostic methods in workshops with farmers from the settlements of Calmon and Matos Costa municipalities. The results show that there are an expressive number of interventions for the formation and the management of the bracatingais, indicating that they are strongly managed landscapes, closer to human artifact conditions than to native forests. These characteristics should be considered in the in specific legislation of bracatinga management.

O presente estudo teve como objetivo analisar a relação entre as bromélias epifíticas e a vegetação arbustiva e arbórea registrada em diferentes estádios sucessionais da Floresta Ombrófila Densa, com o intuito de detectar forófitos potenciais à colonização por bromélias. Os forófitos foram selecionados por meio do método de quadrantes centrados, e verificada a relação entre as suas características morfológicas com a ocorrência de bromélias, por meio da análise de Correlação de Spearman e teste de qui-quadrado. Foram registradas 27 espécies bromélias epifíticas pertencentes a oito gêneros, e 85 espécies forofíticas. O diâmetro foi a variável que apresentou maior influência na riqueza das bromélias. Forófitos com cascas persistentes e com textura rugosa apresentaram maior frequência de bromélias.

The main objective of this study was to identify the relationship between epiphytic bromeliad species and their associated native forest vegetation (trees and shrubs) at different successional stages in the southern coastal Atlantic Rainforest. This study also characterized potential colonization of phorophytes in identified epiphytic bromeliads species. The phorophytes were selected by the phytosociological sampling point-centered quarter method. The relationship between the phorophytes morphological characteristics and epiphytic bromeliads species occurrence was analyzed using a Spearman Correlation and chi-square tests. Twenty-seven epiphytic bromeliads species representing eight genera were found on eighty-five phorophytes. The variable phorophyte diameter presented the greatest influence on the abundance of epiphytic bromeliads species found. Phorophytes with a persistent bark and rough texture showed higher frequency of bromeliads.

Estudos têm indicado baixa capacidade de regeneração em Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze, baseados principalmente no baixo número de indivíduos regenerantes, não existindo estudos da dinâmica da regeneração natural. Dessa forma, o objetivo deste trabalho foi estudar a dinâmica da regeneração de plantas de uma população natural conservada de A. angustifolia sob uma floresta desenvolvida. Em uma parcela permanente de 5,1 ha, na Reserva Genética Florestal de Caçador (SC), foram avaliados, em três anos consecutivos, os indivíduos regenerantes (< 5 m de altura) e discutidos os principais fatores responsáveis pela estrutura encontrada, sendo o padrão espacial analisado com a Função K, de Ripley. Foi encontrada variação no número de ingressantes entre os anos avaliados, bem como nos indivíduos mortos. O estágio crítico para a regeneração da espécie se mostrou logo nos primeiros anos de desenvolvimento até os 0,5 m de altura. A agregação predominou nos indivíduos ingressantes e na regeneração natural como um todo. Mas como a espécie é longeva, ela pode manter baixo número de indivíduos regenerantes na população e, mesmo assim, ter sucesso na regeneração.

Some studies have been suggesting low regeneration capacity in Araucaria angustifolia (Bertol.) Kuntze, based mainly on the small number of regenerating individual. However, there are no works on natural regeneration dynamics. The objective of this work was to study regeneration dynmics of plants in a conserved-natural population of A. angustifolia under a developed forest. In a permanent 5.1 ha-plot was installed in the Forest Genetic Reserve of Caçador, state of Santa Catarina. It was evaluated in three consecutive years the regenerating individuals (< 5m tall) and it was discussed the probable factors responsible for found structure. The spatial pattern was analyzed with the Ripley's K Function. It was found variation in the number of ingressing individuals among the evaluated years, as well as for the dead individuals. The critical stage of regeneration of this species appeared in the first years of development 0.5 m of height. Aggregation was predominant in the ingressing individuals and in natural regeneration as a whole. But, because A. angustifolia is a long-lived species, it can keep a low number of regenerating individuals in the population and even though succeed in regeneration.

A bracatinga (Mimosa scabrella Benth.) é uma espécie florestal de múltiplo uso, típica do ecossistema Floresta Ombrófila Mista, associado ao bioma Mata Atlãntica. Este estudo teve por objetivo comparar a estrutura, a diversidade vegetal e a ocorrência da bracatinga, entre bracatingais manejados e formações secundárias nativas. Foram realizados inventários florestais em 45 bracatingais (parcelas de 400 m²), com diferentes idades, e 40 áreas de florestas secundárias em diferentes estágios de sucessão natural (parcelas de 200 m²). Entre os resultados destaca-se que a estrutura demográfica da bracatinga e a diversidade das demais espécies apresentam padrões bastante diferenciados entre os bracatingais e as florestas secundárias, especialmente nos primeiros anos de desenvolvimento das duas comunidades vegetais. A expressiva diferença nestes padrões caracterizam os bracatingais como paisagens manejadas, sendo estes dependentes da ação humana para sua formação e manutenção.

Mimosa scabrella (Mimosa scabrella Benth.) is a multiple use forest species, typical from a mixed ombrophilous forest, asscociate to Atlantic forest biome. The objective of this study was to compare structure, vegetal diversity and occurrence of Mimosa scabrella among managed Mimosa scabrella woods and forest formations. Forest inventories were conducted in 45 plots (400- m² plots), at different ages, and 40 secondary forest areas at different stages of natural succession (200 m² plots). The results show that there are different patterns in the demographic structure of Mimosa scabrella and species diversity between the bracatingais and secondary forests, particularly in the early years of both communities development. The significant difference in those patterns characterize the bracatingais as managed landscapes, which are strongly dependent on human action for its formation and maintanance.
