Abstract Introduction: Laryngeal papillomatosis (LP) is a disease caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV), with obstruction of the upper airways. Direct contact is the most frequent form of contagion in adults, although it can appear from childhood and persist throughout life due to contamination of the product when it comes out through the vaginal canal where the larynx is generally the most affected and can present mild signs such as dysphonia to severe signs of airway obstruction. Case report: corresponds to a 30-year-old female with a 37-week pregnancy, which began with symptoms of upper respiratory tract obstruction, which triggered death due to anoxia caused by laryngeal papillomatosis. Discussion: the practice of necrosurgery entails a teaching-learning process that dates back to times as remote as ancient Greece, during its procedure it generates knowledge for the experts as well as for the students who participate in it, contributing to the pedagogical process of the doctor, to The presented case takes on the importance of the pathophysiological consequence of a disease left to evolve freely and the dire consequences that it caused in an obstetric patient. Conclusions: with the presentation of this case we intend to make necropsies visible as a formative element of enormous value for the student and experts in the medical area, as well as the value for the sciences in general for the contribution on pathology, epidemiology of the diseases, pathophysiology, among others, and the need to carry out a complementary examination as prescribed by the clinical practice guidelines in Mexico in order to avoid deaths such as the one presented.

Resumen Introducción. La papilomatosis laríngea (PL) es una enfermedad causada por el virus papiloma humano (VPH) con obstrucción de vías aéreas superiores. Su forma de contagio es mediante contacto directo, y es más frecuente en adultos, aunque puede aparecer desde la niñez y persistir durante la vida debido a la contaminación del producto al salir por el canal vaginal, donde la laringe generalmente es la más afectada y puede presentar desde signos leves como disfonía hasta otros más severos de obstrucción aérea. Presentación del caso. Corresponde a una femenina de 30 años con un embarazo de 37 semanas, la cual inició con síntomas de obstrucción de vías respiratorias superiores que desencadenó una muerte por anoxia causada por una papilomatosis laríngea. Discusión. La práctica de la necrocirugía conlleva a un proceso de enseñanza y aprendizaje que data de tiempos tan remotos como la antigua Grecia. Durante su procedimiento genera conocimientos para los expertos como para los alumnos que en ella participan, lo que coadyuva al proceso pedagógico del médico. Para el caso presentado cobra importancia la correlación fisiopatológica de una enfermedad dejada a libre evolución y las consecuencias tan funestas que provocó en una paciente obstétrica. Conclusiones. Con la presentación de este caso pretendemos visibilizar a las necropsias como un elemento formativo de inmenso valor para el estudiante y los expertos del área médica y afines, así como el valor para las ciencias en general por la aportación sobre patología, epidemiología de las enfermedades, fisiopatología, entre otras, y la necesidad de realizar una exploración complementaria a lo pautado por las guías de práctica clínica en México a fin de evitar muertes como la presentada.

Resumo Introdução. A papilomatose laríngea (LP) é uma doença causada pelo papilomavírus humano (HPV) com obstrução das vias aéreas superiores. Sua forma de contágio é por contato direto, sendo mais comum em adultos, embora possa surgir desde a infância e persistir ao longo da vida devido à contaminação do produto ao sair pelo canal vaginal, onde geralmente a laringe é a mais afetada e pode apresentar desde sinais leves, como disfonia, até sinais mais graves de obstrução aérea. Apresentação do caso. Corresponde a uma mulher de 30 anos, com gestação de 37 semanas, que iniciou com sintomas de obstrução de vias aéreas superiores que desencadearam óbito por anóxia causada por papilomatose laríngea. Discussão. A prática da necrocirurgia envolve um processo de ensino e aprendizagem que remonta a tempos tão antigos quanto a Grécia antiga. Durante seu procedimento gera conhecimento tanto para os especialistas quanto para os alunos que dele participam, o que contribui para o processo pedagógico do médico. Para o caso apresentado, torna-se importante a correlação fisiopatológica de uma doença que evoluiu e as consequências desastrosas que ela causou em uma paciente obstétrica. Conclusões. Com a apresentação deste caso pretendemos dar visibilidade às autópsias como um elemento de formação de imenso valor para o estudante e especialistas das áreas médicas e afins, bem como de valor para a ciência em geral pelo contributo na patologia, epidemiologia das doenças , fisiopatologia, entre outros, e a necessidade de realizar exame complementar conforme prescrito pelas diretrizes de prática clínica no México, a fim de evitar mortes como a apresentada.

RESUMEN Las quemas controladas son comúnmente utilizadas por los agricultores en tierras de vocación forestal para la limpieza del terreno previo al establecimiento de cultivos agrícolas. El presente trabajo experimental tuvo como objetivo evaluar el comportamiento del fuego en quemas controladas en tierras de vocación forestal en la comuna Sancán, provincia de Manabí, Ecuador. Se delimitaron 10 parcelas de 1,18 x 5 m en hileras de combustible y tres parcelas de 20 x 50 m en combustibles dispersos. Durante la quema se midieron las variables temperatura del aire, humedad relativa y velocidad del viento a 0,50 metros de altura del suelo y a más de 3,00 m de distancia del extremo de la parcela por donde se inició el fuego. El material combustible se caracterizó considerando peso, espesura y contenido de humedad antes de la quema. Los parámetros del comportamiento del fuego evaluados fueron velocidad de propagación, intensidad lineal del fuego, alturas de las llamas, altura de secado letal y calor liberado por unidad de área. El comportamiento del fuego mostró valores medios superiores para todos los parámetros en las parcelas ubicadas en las hileras de combustible, excepto para el caso de la velocidad de propagación. Además, en esas parcelas los valores de la desviación estándar obtenidos para cada variable indican mayor dispersión de los datos con respecto a la media lo cual supone un comportamiento del fuego menos homogéneo en sentido general. Los resultados obtenidos pueden ser utilizados para fundamentar el uso responsable del fuego en tierras de vocación forestal.

RESUMO A queima controlada é comumente usada por agricultores em terras florestais para limpar a terra antes do estabelecimento de culturas agrícolas. O objetivo deste trabalho experimental foi avaliar o comportamento do fogo em queimadas controladas em terras florestais na comuna de Sancán, província de Manabí, Equador. Foram delimitadas 10 parcelas de 1,18 x 5 m em fileiras de combustíveis e três parcelas de 20 x 50 m em combustíveis dispersos. Durante a queima, as variáveis temperatura do ar, umidade relativa e velocidade do vento foram medidas a 0,50 metros do solo e a mais de 3,00 m de distância do final da parcela onde ocorreu o incêndio. O material combustível foi caracterizado considerando peso, espessura e teor de umidade antes da queima. Os parâmetros de comportamento do fogo avaliados foram velocidade de propagação, intensidade linear do fogo, altura das chamas, altura de secagem letal e calor liberado por unidade de área. O comportamento do fogo apresentou maiores valores médios para todos os parâmetros nas parcelas localizadas nas linhas de combustível, exceto para o caso da velocidade de propagação. Além disso, nestas parcelas os valores de desvio padrão obtidos para cada variável indicam maior dispersão dos dados em relação à média, o que implica um comportamento do fogo menos homogéneo de uma forma geral. Os resultados obtidos podem ser utilizados para apoiar o uso responsável do fogo em terras florestais.

ABSTRACT Controlled burning is commonly used by farmers on forestry lands to clear the land prior to establishing agricultural crops. The objective of this experimental work was to evaluate the behavior of fire in controlled burning on forestry lands in the Sancán commune, province of Manabí, Ecuador. 10 plots of 1.18 x 5 m were delimited in fuel rows and three plots of 20 x 50 m in dispersed fuels. During the burning, the variables air temperature, relative humidity and wind speed were measured at 0.50 meters above the ground and more than 3.00 m away from the end of the plot where the fire started. The fuel material was characterized considering weight, thickness and moisture content before burning. The fire behavior parameters evaluated were propagation speed, linear fire intensity, flame heights, lethal drying height and heat released per unit area. Fire behavior showed higher mean values for all parameters in the plots located in the fuel rows, except for the case of propagation speed. Besides, in these plots, the standard deviation values obtained for each variable indicate greater dispersion of the data with respect to the mean, which implies less homogeneous fire behavior in a general sense. The results obtained can be used to support the responsible use of fire in forestry lands.

ABSTRACT This article analyses the validity evidence based on the internal structure and reliability of the 12-item Herth Hope Index in a sample of 1255 inhabitants of the city of Arequipa (46.3% men and 53.7% women), located in the south of Peru. Five models were tested by confirmatory factor analysis and, based on the results, comparisons were made according to sex and age. The results suggest a two-factor structure similar to that reported in a sample from Lima. These factors are Optimism and Agencies. Regarding reliability, the first factor obtained adequate levels of internal consistency through McDonald's Omega test and Cronbach's Alpha test; while the second factor obtained low but acceptable levels of reliability with both tests. Likewise, no gender differences were recorded, although there were differences with respect to age in the agency dimension, given the results of low reliability in this dimension, it is suggested to take these results with caution.

RESUMEN El presente artículo analiza la evidencia de validez basada en la estructura interna y la confiabilidad del Índice de Esperanza de Herth de 12 reactivos en una muestra de 1255 habitantes de la ciudad de Arequipa (46.3% hombres y 53.7% mujeres), ubicada al sur de Perú. Se pusieron a prueba cinco modelos mediante análisis factorial confirmatorio y sobre la base de los resultados, se realizaron comparaciones en función del sexo y la edad. Los resultados sugieren una estructura de dos factores similar a la reportada en una muestra de Lima. Estos factores son Optimismo y Agencias. Con respecto a la confiabilidad, el primer factor obtuvo adecuados niveles de consistencia interna mediante la prueba Omega de McDonald y la prueba Alfa de Cronbach, mientras que el segundo factor obtuvo niveles bajos pero aceptables de confiabilidad con ambas pruebas. Asimismo, no se registraron diferencias en función del sexo, aunque sí con respecto a la edad en la dimensión de agencias, pero dados los resultados de baja confiabilidad en esta dimensión, se sugiere tomar estos resultados con cautela.

Resumen Con el propósito de conocer la factibilidad de usos alternativos de los sedimentos acumulados en la presa La Esperanza, en el municipio de Guanajuato, estos fueron sometidos a análisis químicos cuantitativos. Se encontró que los contenidos de metales preciosos y tierras raras hacen factible el aprovechamiento económico de los sedimentos. Adicionalmente, los sedimentos, una vez tamizados y clasificados, se usaron para producir ladrillos. Los resultados de pruebas de resistencia en compresión, porosidad y adsorción se compararon con los de ladrillos producidos usando arcillas de comunidades de los municipios de Irapuato y Abasolo. No se encontraron diferencias estadísticamente significativas en los resultados de los ladrillos producidos con los tres tipos de arcillas usadas; por lo tanto, los sedimentos podrían ser usados para producir ladrillos. De esta forma, de los sedimentos se pueden extraer metales con alto valor comercial, y una vez procesados se pueden usar para hacer ladrillos usables en construcción.

Abstract To know the feasibility of alternative uses of sediments accumulated in La Esperanza dam, in the municipality of Guanajuato, they were subjected to quantitative chemical analysis. It was found that the contents of precious metals and rare earths make the economic exploitation of the sediments feasible. Additionally, the sediments, after sieved, were used to produce bricks. The results of compression, porosity, and adsorption tests were compared with those of bricks produced using clays from communities in the municipalities of Irapuato and Abasolo. No statistically significant differences were found in the results of the bricks produced with the three types of clays used; therefore, the sediments could be used to produce bricks. In this way, metals with high commercial value can be extracted from the sediments, and once processed they can be used to make bricks for the construction sector.

Objective: Verbal communication contains key information for mental health assessment. Researchers have linked psychopathology phenomena to certain counterparts in natural language processing. We characterized subtle impairments in the early stages of psychosis, developing new analysis techniques, which led to a comprehensive map associating features of natural language processing with the full range of clinical presentation. Methods: We used natural language processing to assess spontaneous and elicited speech by 60 individuals with at-risk mental states and 73 controls who were screened from 4,500 quota-sampled Portuguese speaking residents of São Paulo, Brazil. Psychotic symptoms were independently assessed with the Structured Interview for Psychosis-Risk Syndromes. Speech features (e.g., sentiments and semantic coherence), including novel ones, were correlated with psychotic traits (Spearman’s-ρ) and at-risk mental state status (general linear models and machine-learning ensembles). Results: Natural language processing features were informative for classification, presenting a balanced accuracy of 86%. Features such as semantic laminarity (as perseveration), semantic recurrence time (as circumstantiality), and average centrality in word repetition graphs carried the most information and were directly correlated with psychotic symptoms. Grammatical tagging (e.g., use of adjectives) was the most relevant standard measure. Conclusion: Subtle speech impairments can be detected by sensitive methods and can be used in at-risk mental states screening. We have outlined a blueprint for speech-based evaluation, pairing features to standard psychometric items for thought disorder. Abstract Introduction Adolescents represent an important demographic percentage in the studied population and in Emergency Departments (ED). It is imperative that health professionals and services are prepared to address this population. This work aims to characterize adolescents at the ED of a Brazilian private tertiary hospital. Methods The study was an observational, retrospective longitudinal cohort that included 37,450 visits of patients aged 10 to 21 years of age, between January 2018 and June 2022 in the ED of a private tertiary hospital. The study evaluated the reason for the consultation, diagnosis, need for hospitalization, the medical professional responsible for the care, severity, and paying source of care. Results 53.7% were female. Mean age was 16.2y for girls and 15.6y for boys (p < 0.005). The most common complaints were flu-like symptoms (17.4%), sore throat (8.2%), fever (6.7%) and limb trauma (6.3%). Flu-like symptoms were the main consultations caused in all age groups and genders. 36.8% were attended by a general practitioner, 35.8% by a pediatrician, 15.1% by orthopedics and 5.6% by surgeons. The hospitalization rate was 5.5%. There was a strong correlation between age and hospitalization rate (correlation coefficient [r = 0.93]; p < 0.001). The most prevalent diagnoses in hospitalizations were acute abdomen (12.7%) and trauma (9.4%). 78.2% of the consultations were classified as “not urgent”. There was a strong correlation between age and severity (r = 0.86; p < 0.001). 92.7% of the consultations were paid by medical insurance. Conclusion In this study, flu-like symptoms were the single main reason for adolescents to search for immediate health care, in every age subgroup and gender, but represented a small risk for hospital admission. Limb trauma was more common in younger male teenagers. Acute abdominal pain and trauma were the most frequent causes of hospital admissions. Resumo Objetivou-se avaliar o desempenho produtivo e reprodutivo de ovinos da raça Santa Inês e mestiços da raça Dorper criados em sistema tradicional de produção durante a fase de amamentação na época seca do ano no semiárido paraibano. O experimento foi conduzido no Setor de Caprinovinocultura da Universidade Estadual da Paraíba/UEPB/Campus-IV, Catolé do Rocha/PB. Foram utilizadas 24 ovelhas multíparas, sendo 12 da raça Santa Inês e 12 mestiças da raça Dorper (87,5% Dorper + 12,5% Santa Inês) paridas com 30 ovinos jovens, sendo 10 machos e 20 fêmeas. O período experimental se iniciou no momento do parto e os dados foram coletados ao nascimento, aos 30, 60 e 90 dias de idade. Foi utilizada análise de variância para as ovelhas e para os cordeiros esquema fatorial 2 x 2 (dois grupos genéticos e dois sexos). Os cordeiros permaneceram com suas mães em piquetes durante o dia e à noite no aprisco, manejo tradicional da região. As ovelhas Santa Inês e mestiças Dorper produziram quantidades de leite semelhantes (P=0,8310) até os 60 dias de lactação. O grupo genético das ovelhas não influenciou os pesos vivos e escore de corporal ao parto, 30, 60 e 90 dias de lactação, como também a eficiência produtiva e peso total de crias desmamadas por ovelha. Os cordeiros e cordeiras Dorper apresentaram maiores pesos vivos (P=0,0349) e ganhos de peso (P=0,0403), por outro lado, o sexo dos ovinos jovens não influenciou o desempenho até os 90 dias de amamentação. Abstract This study evaluated the productive and reproductive performances of Santa Inês sheep and their Dorper crossbreeds during the lactation period amidst the dry season in the semi-arid region of Paraíba, Brazil. Conducted at the experimental goat farm of the State University of Paraíba (UEPB), Campus IV, Catolé do Rocha, the investigation included a cohort of 24 ewes (12 Santa Inês and 12 Dorper crossbreeds [comprising 87.5% Dorper and 12.5% Santa Inês]) and 30 lambs (10 males and 20 females). Observations were recorded from birth and continued at 30-day intervals up to 90 days. Using a two-way ANOVA with a 2 x 2 factorial design (two genetic groups and two sexes), the study monitored both ewes and lambs. The animals adhered to traditional regional management, grazing in paddocks by day and secured in shelters by dusk. The study found that both Santa Inês and Dorper crossbred ewes produced similar quantities of milk (P=0.8310) for the first 60 days of lactation. There was no discernible effect of the ewes’ genetic backgrounds on their live weights, body condition scores at lambing, throughout the subsequent 30, 60, and 90 days of lactation, or on the overall productive efficiency and total weight of weaned lambs per ewe. In contrast, Dorper lambs demonstrated a higher weaning weight (P=0.0349) and greater weight gain (P=0.0403). ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to compare isokinetic performance (PT) of knee extensors (ext) and flexors (flex), H:Q ratio, and PT asymmetry in young soccer players based on somatic maturation. 80 soccer players (aged 12-17) were sampled, classified as pre-PHV (n=19) and post-PHV (n=61). RESUMEN Comparar el rendimiento isocinético (PT) de los extensores (ext.) y flexores (flex.) de la rodilla, y la relación I:Q en jóvenes jugadores de fútbol según la maduración somática. The worldwide emergence of viral diseases such as Zika, Dengue, Chikungunya, West Nile and Yellow Fever urge the search for solutions to eliminate their common vector, the Aedes aegypti mosquito. This paper describes the quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) and docking studies of a series of nine 3-(3-aryl-1,2,4-oxadiazol-5-yl)propionic acids (AOPA), 1-9, previously published by our group. Additionally, three new 1,2,4-oxadiazoles, 10-12, have also been synthesized, characterized and studied. The QSAR and docking studies of all compounds, 1-12, clearly indicate that larger hydrophobic substituents such as biphenyl groups attached on position 3 in 1,2,4-oxadiazoles improve the larvicidal activity. It is worthwhile to mention that nanocapsulation of compounds 10-12 were necessary to help their dissolution in water and these three new 1,2,4-oxadiazoles also exhibited approximately equal or higher larvicidal activities compared to the former prototypes at stage L4. RESUMEN Introducción: Los acontecimientos altamente estresantes que vivimos actualmente demandan gran esfuerzo cognitivo y emocional y afectan la salud mental de la población; en este sentido el afrontamiento al estrés proporciona evidencia de cómo las personas recurren a sus recursos para afrontar o evadir los eventos estresantes, lo cual necesita de instrumentos validados y confiables para medirlo con precisión. Objetivo: Determinar las propiedades psicométricas de confiabilidad y validez del BRIEF COPE 28, versión española. Método: El diseño usado fue instrumental; participaron 530 personas, 60% varones y 40% mujeres, entre 18 y 60 años, de distintas regiones del Perú, seleccionadas con el muestreo no probabilístico por conveniencia. Resultados: Se evidencia que el coeficiente alfa de los estilos de afrontamiento oscila entre α ordinal=0.74 a 0.82; mientras que en las estrategias fue entre α ordinal=0.59 a 0.90. En cuanto a la estructura interna, el modelo de cuatro factores obtuvo buen ajuste de bondad SB-χ²/gl=1.836; CFI=0.92; TLI=0.90, SRMS=0.09 y RMSEA=0.10. Asimismo, se encontró buen ajuste con el modelo de 10 estrategias de afrontamiento SB-χ²/gl=1.902; CFI=0.96; TLI=0.95, SRMS=0.056, RMSEA=0.069. Conclusión: El COPE 28 tiene buena consistencia interna; y que el modelo con los cuatro estilos de afrontamiento no es concluyente; mientras el modelo con 10 estrategias tiene adecuado ajuste de bondad.

ABSTRACT Background: The highly stressful events we are currently experiencing require great cognitive and emotional effort and affect the mental health of the population. In this sense, coping with stress provides evidence of how people use their resources to cope with or avoid stressful events, which requires validated and reliable instruments to measure accurately. Objective: To determine the psychometric properties of reliability and validity of the BRIEF COPE 28, Spanish version. Method: The design used was instrumental; 530 people participated, 60% men and 40% women, between 18 and 60 years old, from different regions of Peru, selected by non-probability convenience sampling. Results: It is evident that the alpha coefficient of coping styles ranges from α ordinal = 0.74 to 0.82; while in strategies it was between α ordinal = 0.59 to 0.90. In terms of internal structure, the four-factor model obtained a good fit SB-χ²/gl=1.836; CFI=0.92; TLI=0.90, SRMS=0.09 and RMSEA=0.10. A good fit was found with the ten coping strategies model SB-χ²/gl=1.902; CFI=0.96; TLI=0.95, SRMS=0.056, RMSEA=0.069. Conclusion: COPE 28 has good internal consistency; and the model with the four coping styles is inconclusive, while the model with ten strategies has adequate goodness of fit.

ABSTRACT Compaction caused by mechanization affects soil quality and, consequently, the development of crops. This study aimed to evaluate the effect of different degrees of soil compaction on the physiology, morphology, and anatomy of different coffee cultivars in a controlled environment. The experiment was carried out in a greenhouse, with randomized block design in a 5 × 5 factorial arrangement, with five coffee cultivars (Arara, Catuaí Amarelo IAC 62, Catuaí Vermelho 144, MGS Paraíso 2 and Mundo Novo IAC 379-19) and five degrees of compaction (68, 74, 80, 86 and 92 %), with four repetitions, totaling 100 experimental units. The following variables were evaluated in the aboveground biomass: plant height, number of leaves, diameter of the orthotropic branch, fresh mass of leaves and stem, leaf area, gas exchange, and chlorophyll a and b index; in the roots: length, surface area, volume, diameter of fine and coarse roots, fresh and dry mass of roots, as well as anatomical characteristics. Results showed that soil with degrees of compaction above 80 % negatively affected the variables evaluated. Catuaí Vermelho 144 presented the worst performance regardless of the degree of compaction, while Arara and MGS Paraíso 2 showed the best performance under the evaluated compaction degrees. We have produced a new complex-phase (CP) steel with 1200 MPa of mechanical resistance and 8% of elongation, called CP1200. In this paper the dilatometric and microstructural characterization of a newly produced CP1200 steel is presented. The new steel was produced by making changes to the heat treatment of the already industrially available CP1100. The microstructure was quantified using light optical microscopy (LOM) and electron backscatter diffraction (EBSD). The microstructure of both steels was compared to identify the origin of the mechanical properties improvement. A new microstructure distribution, with higher amount of bainite and smaller concentration of ferrite and martensite was identified. RESUMO RACIONAL: A prevalência de colangite esclerosante primária (CEP) na população em geral ainda não foi claramente estabelecida. O manejo da CEP deve se concentrar em retardar a progressão da doença e gerenciar suas complicações. A única terapia curativa para a doença continua sendo o transplante hepático (TH). A CEP é atualmente a 5ª indicação mais comum de TH e corresponde a 5% de todas as indicações de TH em adultos OBJETIVOS: O nosso objetivo é avaliar as indicações e os resultados do transplante de fígado em pacientes com CEP submetidos a TH em três centros de transplante de fígado no sul do Brasil (Hospital Santa Isabel, Blumenau, Santa Catarina; Hospital das Clínicas, Curitiba, Paraná; e Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças, Curitiba, Paraná). MÉTODOS: Este é um estudo observacional longitudinal de pacientes com colangite esclerosante primária que foram submetidos a transplante hepático em três grandes centros médicos brasileiros. Os prontuários eletrônicos de todos os pacientes submetidos a TH de Janeiro de 2011 a Dezembro de 2021, foram avaliados retrospectivamente. RESULTADOS: De um total de 1.362 transplantes realizados nos três centros médicos, 37 eram devidos à CEP. A recorrência de CEP ocorreu em 3 pacientes (8,1%) em 3±2,4 anos (intervalo, 1–4 anos). A taxa de sobrevida de 1 ano e 5 anos após o 1° TH foi respectivamente de 83,8 e 80,6%. As taxas de sobrevida dos enxertos em 1 ano e 5 anos foram, respectivamente, 83,8 e 74,8%. CONCLUSÕES: A nossa experiência com TH em pacientes com CEP demonstrou bons resultados de sobrevida dos pacientes e dos enxertos. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The prevalence of primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) in the general population has not yet been clearly established. The management of PSC should focus on delaying the progression of the disease and restraining its complications. The only curative therapy for the disease remains liver transplantation (LT). PSC is currently the fifth most common indication for LT and corresponds to 5% of all LT indications in adults. AIMS: Our objective is to evaluate the indications and outcomes of PSC patients undergoing LT in three liver transplantation centers in southern Brazil – Hospital Santa Isabel in Blumenau, Santa Catarina state, and Hospital das Clínicas and Hospital Nossa Senhora das Graças, in Curitiba, Parana state). METHODS: This is a longitudinal observational study of patients with PSC who underwent LT in three major Brazilian medical centers. Electronic medical records and study protocols of all patients subjected to LT from January 2011 to December 2021 were retrospectively reviewed. RESULTS: Of the 1,362 transplants performed in the three medical centers, 37 were due to PSC. Recurrence of PSC occurred in three patients (8.1%) in 3.0±2.4 years (range, 1–4 years). The 1-year and 5-year survival rates after the first LT were 83.8 and 80.6%, respectively. The 1-year and 5-year graft survival rates were, respectively, 83.8 and 74.8%. CONCLUSIONS: Our experience with LT in patients with PSC demonstrated good patient and graft survival results. Most deaths were due to common factors in patients undergoing LT.
