Resumo As estruturas das próteses parciais removíveis (PPR) em cobalto-crómio (Co-Cr), utilizadas há várias décadas, têm permitido devolver a função mastigatória aos pacientes parcialmente desdentados. No entanto, estas estruturas não preenchem na totalidade o critério estético, sendo uma queixa recorrente a visibilidade do metal das unidades gancho. Com a crescente exigência estética imposta pelos pacientes em relação ao tratamento reabilitador, surgiu a necessidade do desenvolvimento de novos materiais com esta capacidade. Um material que tem permitido dar resposta a este requisito é o poliéter-éter-cetona (PEEK). O caso clínico apresentado descreve o fabrico da estrutura de uma PRR para a reabilitação de uma desdentação mandibular Classe III de Kennedy, usando o PEEK como material alternativo ao Co-Cr. A estrutura foi construída com tecnologia CAD/CAM. O processo combinou a digitalização dos modelos de gesso em laboratório, desenho digital da estrutura, fresagem duma estrutura de prova em resina e fresagem da estrutura em PEEK. A estrutura mostrou-se bem-adaptada aos dentes pilares e tecidos de suporte. A paciente foi seguida durante 2 anos, tendo-se mostrado muito satisfeita em relação ao tratamento reabilitador, quer quanto ao conforto e função, quer quanto ao resultado estético. Passado este período, a estrutura da PPR não mostrou sinais de degradação e os ganchos apresentavam-se retentivos como na consulta de inserção, observando-se apenas alguma pigmentação da estrutura.

Abstract Traditional removable partial dentures (RPDs) with cobalt-chromium frameworks have been used for several decades, restoring the masticatory function. However, these frameworks have been documented as aesthetically unacceptable due to the display of metal clasps. The patients' increased demands regarding the aesthetic aspects of rehabilitation treatment led to the introduction of new, more aesthetic materials in clinical practice. One of the main materials is polyetheretherketone (PEEK). This clinical report presents PEEK as an alternative material for fabricating RPD frameworks for a Class III Kennedy partial edentulous mandible. The framework was constructed using CAD/CAM manufacturing, and the process combined laboratory scanning, digital framework design, resin try-in milling, and PEEK framework milling. The framework showed good adaptation to the abutment teeth and surrounding tissues. The patient was followed for 2 years without complaints and was grateful for the aesthetics. During this period, there were no signs of degradation in the framework, and the clasps were still as retentive as they were at the initial appointment, with only some pigmentation of the structure being observed.

Resumo Várias técnicas foram descritas para a construção de obturadores para reabilitar os pacientes com defeitos maxilares. O obturador de bulbo oco é o tratamento de eleição na maioria dos pacientes devido ao seu baixo peso, reduzida carga nos tecidos subjacentes e menor desconforto para o paciente. Este artigo apresenta uma técnica para a obtenção de um obturador de bulbo oco fechado, usando um scanner de laboratório, um programa de desenho por computador e impressão 3D.

Abstract Different techniques have been described for fabricating obturators for patients with maxillary defects. The hollow bulb obturator has emerged as the treatment of choice in most patients due to its light weight, decreased stress on the underlying tissues, and decreased patient discomfort. This article presents a technique for fabricating a closed hollow bulb obturator using a laboratory scanner, computer- aided design software, and three-dimensional printing.

Abstract Dentures are used to restore missing teeth and are traditionally fabricated using the lostwax technique. The flasking process is arduous, time-consuming, error-prone, and requires a skilled technician. The development of 3D printing technology has made rapid prototyping of dentures more feasible. This case report describes the functional rehabilitation of a completely edentulous patient with complete dentures by a manufacturer-independent workflow with conventional clinical steps combined with computer-aided design, computer-aided manufacturing (CAD/CAM), and 3D printing technology. The result was 3D-printed complete dentures that were fully adapted, economical, and well-accepted by the patient.

Resumo As próteses são usadas para restaurar dentes perdidos e são tradicionalmente fabricadas usando a técnica de cera perdida através da muflagem. O processo de muflagem é trabalhoso, demorado, sujeito a erros e requer um técnico experiente. O desenvolvimento da tecnologia de impressão 3D tornou a prototipagem rápida de próteses uma alternativa viável. Este caso relata a reabilitação funcional de um paciente completamente edêntulo com próteses totais. É descrito o fluxo de trabalho na realização de próteses totais impressas com desenho e execução assistida por computador (CAD-CAM) e um fluxo de trabalho independente do fabricante com etapas clínicas convencionais combinadas com a tecnologia de impressão 3D. O resultado foi uma prótese total 3D totalmente adaptada, económica e bem aceite pelo paciente.

ABSTRACT The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of a pelvic floor muscle (PFM) rehabilitation programme in overcoming faecal incontinence (FI). Methodology: a case study of a 64-year-old, self-employed teacher diagnosed with FI because of rectal prolapse surgery. A Pelvic Floor Muscle Training (PFMT) programme was carried out, one session/week for 16 weeks, supervised by anorectal biofeedback. Each session took 45 minutes, of which 20 minutes was for PFMT and the rest for physical examination, manual therapy, massage and patient teaching/recording: symptom diary, supervision of diet management, bowel training, defecation techniques/postures and emotional support. In the first session (T0) and the last (T1), an anamnesis, Wexner Index, Bristol Stool Form Scale (BSFS) and Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life (FIQL) were also taken. The results showed gains in PFM strength, which went from grade 2 to 4 on the modified Oxford scale; in quality of life (QoL), absence of faecal losses, stools went from consistency type 2 to 4 on the BSFS. Conclusion: the uropelvic rehabilitation programme proved to be effective in re-educating the PFM and significantly improved the participant's QoL.

RESUMO O objetivo do estudo foi avaliar a eficácia de um programa de reabilitação dos Músculos do Pavimento Pélvico (MPP) para superar a Incontinência Fecal (IF). Metodologia: estudo de caso com uma participante de 64 anos, professora, autónoma, com diagnóstico de IF devido a sequela de cirurgia a prolapso retal. Realizou-se um programa de Treino dos Músculos do Pavimento Pélvico (TMPP), de uma sessão/semana, durante 16 semanas, supervisionado por Biofeedback anorretal. Cada sessão demorou 45 minutos, dos quais 20 minutos para TMPP e o restante para o exame físico, terapia manual, massagem e ensinos/registos da doente: diário de sintomas, supervisão da gestão da alimentação, treino intestinal, técnicas/posturas de defecação e suporte emocional. Na primeira sessão (T0) e na última (T1), foi ainda efetuado a anamnese, Índice de Wexner, Bristol Stool Form Scale (BSFS) e Fecal Incontinence Quality of Life (FIQL). Os resultados evidenciaram ganhos na força dos MPP, que evoluíram de grau 2 para 4 na escala de Oxford modificada; na qualidade de vida (QdV), ausência de perdas fecais, as fezes passaram de consistência tipo 2 para 4 na BSFS. Conclusão: o programa de reabilitação uropélvica, mostrou-se eficaz na reeducação dos MPP e melhorou significativamente a QdV da participante.

ABSTRACT Pressure ulcers (PUs) are related to a prolonged process of disability, an indicator of frailty, functional decline and dependence, and malnutrition is a major factor in their development. The aim of this study was to correlate the risk of developing PUs with the nutritional status and frailty of elderly people institutionalized in Residential Facilities for the Elderly. A cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive study was carried out. A questionnaire was used which included questions for sociodemographic characterization, the Braden scale, the Mini Nutritional Assessment and the Groningen Frailty Index. The participants were 134 institutionalized elderly people, 64.2% female, with an average age of 85.0 years (SD= 7.9), 70.1% widowed and 58.2% had not completed primary school. The results show that 35.8 per cent of the elderly were at high risk of developing UPP, 57.4 per cent were malnourished or at risk of malnutrition and 82.1 per cent were frail. Assessing the risk of PUs, frailty and malnutrition in institutionalized elderly people makes it possible to institute preventive measures with the aim of improving their quality of life. The prevention of pressure ulcers is an indicator of the quality of nursing care that requires evaluation and updating for clinical practice based on innovation and the best evidence.

RESUMO As Úlceras Por Pressão (UPP) estão relacionadas com o processo prolongado de incapacidade, indicador de fragilidade, declínio funcional e dependência, constituindo a desnutrição fator preponderante para a sua evolução. O objetivo do presente estudo foi relacionar o risco de desenvolvimento de UPP com o estado nutricional e a fragilidade de idosos institucionalizados em Estruturas Residenciais para Pessoas Idosas. Realizou-se um estudo transversal, quantitativo e descritivo. Aplicou-se um questionário que integrava questões para caracterização sociodemográfica, a escala de Braden, o Mini Nutricion Assessment e o Índice de Fragilidade de Groningen. Participaram 134 idosos institucionalizados, 64,2% do sexo feminino, com média de idades de 85,0 anos (DP= 7,9), 70,1% viúvos e 58,2% não concluíram o 1º ciclo de escolaridade. Os resultados mostram que 35,8% dos idosos apresentam alto risco de desenvolvimento de UPP, 57,4% encontram-se desnutridos ou em risco de desnutrição e 82,1% apresentam fragilidade. A avaliação do risco de UPP, da fragilidade e da desnutrição nos idosos institucionalizados permite instituir medidas preventivas com objetivo de melhorar a sua qualidade de vida. A prevenção de Úlceras Por Pressão constitui um indicador de qualidade dos cuidados de enfermagem que requer avaliação e atualização para uma prática clínica fundamentada na inovação e melhor evidência.

ABSTRACT Health care must respond to individual and family needs, making existing health resources available to meet citizens’ needs. People in a situation of dependence require care from family members who require specific training to perform the role of caregiver. The objective of the study was to analyze how health literacy influences the relationship between satisfaction with social support and informal caregiver burden. A cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive-correlational study was carried out. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire. 51 informal caregivers participated, 78.4% were women, 29.4% had a medium/low level of education, 52.9% had assumed the role of informal caregiver for five or more years. It was found that 80.4% of informal caregivers had a high level of overload, with a greater impact on those who had been providing care for around 1-2 years. Regarding the necessary help, 76.5% of informal caregivers mentioned social support for economic support and 49% support for caring for a family member. The need for nurses to implement interventions to improve caregivers’ knowledge, promote health literacy, social support and dynamics that allow informal caregivers to share experiences and achieve a healthy transition process was highlighted.

RESUMO Os cuidados de saúde devem dar resposta às necessidades individuais e familiares, disponibilizando os recursos de saúde existentes para suprir as carências dos cidadãos. As pessoas em situação de dependência requerem cuidados dos familiares, Cuidadores Informais, que necessitam de formação específica para o desempenho do papel de cuidador. O objetivo do estudo foi analisar de que forma a literacia em saúde influência a relação entre a satisfação com o suporte social e a sobrecarga do Cuidador Informal. Realizou-se um estudo transversal, quantitativo e descritivo-correlacional. A recolha de dados foi efetuada através de um questionário. Participaram 51 Cuidadores Informais, 78,4% eram mulheres, 29,4% apresentava nível médio/baixo de escolaridade, 52,9% assumiu o papel de Cuidador Informal há cinco ou mais anos. Verificou-se que 80,4% dos Cuidadores Informais apresentavam nível de sobrecarga elevado, com maior impacto nos que prestavam cuidados há cerca de 1-2 anos. Quanto às ajudas necessárias, 76,5% dos Cuidadores Informais referiram o suporte para apoio económico e 49% suporte para cuidar do familiar. Evidenciou-se necessidade de o enfermeiro implementar intervenções para melhorar os conhecimentos dos cuidadores, promover a literacia em saúde, o suporte social e dinâmicas que permitam ao Cuidador Informal partilhar experiências e alcançar um processo de transição saudável.

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION Lung cancer (LC) is a relevant public health problem in Brazil and worldwide, given its high incidence and mortality. Thus, the objective of this study is to analyze the distribution of smoking and smoking status according to sociodemographic characteristics and disparities in access, treatment, and mortality due to LC in Brazil in 2013 and 2019. METHOD Retrospective study of triangulation of national data sources: a) analysis of the distribution of smoking, based on the National Survey of Health (PNS); b) investigation of LC records via Hospital-based Cancer Registry (HCR); and c) distribution of mortality due to LC in the Mortality Information System (SIM). RESULTS There was a decrease in the percentage of people who had never smoked from 2013 (68.5%) to 2019 (60.2%) and in smoking history (pack-years). This was observed to be greater in men, people of older age groups, and those with less education. Concerning patients registered in the HCR, entry into the healthcare service occurs at the age of 50, and only 19% have never smoked. While smokers in the population are mainly Mixed-race, patients in the HCR are primarily White. As for the initial stage (I and II), it is more common in White people and people who have never smoked. The mortality rate varied from 1.00 for people with higher education to 3.36 for people without education. Furthermore, White people have a mortality rate three times higher than that of Black and mixed-race people. CONCLUSION This article highlighted relevant sociodemographic disparities in access to LC diagnosis, treatment, and mortality. Therefore, the recommendation is to strengthen the Population-Based Cancer Registry and develop and implement a nationwide LC screening strategy in Brazil since combined prevention and early diagnosis strategies work better in controlling mortality from the disease and continued investment in tobacco prevention and control policies.

By primarily examining visual “yellow fever” depictions (in Hollywood cinema through films like “The World of Suzie Wong”, “Madame Butterfly”, “Miss Saigon”, and the “Year of the Dragon”, along with interracial Pornography), I endeavor to delve into the impact of “race”, “sexual fetishization”, and the ubiquitous propagation of stereotypical imagery on the lives of the individuals I engage with.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a influência do uso de sistema semi-hidropônico sobre as variáveis agronômicas e de pós-colheita de cultivares de morangueiro. O experimento foi conduzido em delineamento de blocos ao acaso, com as cultivares Aromas, Camarosa, Festival, Merced, Oso Grande e San Andreas, com oito plantas por parcela e cinco repetições. Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of using a semi-hydroponic system on the agronomic and postharvest variables of strawberry cultivars. The experiment was conducted in a randomized complete block design, with cultivars Aromas, Camarosa, Festival, Merced, Oso Grande, and San Andreas, with eight plants per plot and five replicates. Agronomic and postharvest variables were evaluated. Cultivar San Andreas showed the highest values for the agronomic variables number of commercial fruits and total and commercial yield per plant, with the highest yield in October, November, and December. The postharvest variables moisture, firmness, pH, titratable acidity, and reducing sugars did not differ between cultivars. RESUMO: Objetivo: identificar os instrumentos utilizados para a avaliação do paciente hospitalizado em cuidados paliativos. Método: revisão integrativa da literatura, realizada em janeiro de 2024, nas plataformas de dados on-line: National Library of Medicine e Literatura Latino-Americana e do Caribe de Informação em Ciências da Saúde e a biblioteca virtual Scientific Electronic Library Online. Foram analisados 12 artigos científicos. Resultados: foram identificados 16 instrumentos, sete genéricos, quatro específicos as para pessoas em cuidados paliativos, quatro específicos para os pacientes oncológicos e um para o diagnóstico de COVID-19. O Palliative Perfomance Scale e Edmonton Symptom Assessment foram os instrumentos mais utilizados nos estudos e os aspectos mais relevantes a serem avaliados nos pacientes em cuidados paliativos, foram: capacidade funcional, sintomas físicos e psicológicos e idade avançada. Conclusão: os instrumentos se mostraram úteis para direcionar os profissionais de saúde, na avaliação do paciente, no planejamento do cuidado e na tomada de decisões. ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the instruments used to assess patients hospitalized in palliative care. Method: integrative literature review carried out in January 2024 on the online data platforms: National Library of Medicine and Latin America and the Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) and the virtual library Scientific Electronic Library Online. Twelve scientific articles were analyzed. Results: Sixteen instruments were identified, seven of them generic, four specific for people in palliative care, four specific for oncology patients and one for the diagnosis of COVID-19. The Palliative Performance Scale and Edmonton Symptom Assessment were the most used instruments in the studies and the most relevant aspects to be evaluated in patients receiving palliative care were functional capacity, physical and psychological symptoms and old age. Abstract This paper presents the strategies and initial implementations of a data culture conversion process at a company in the electricity sector. Solutions are being developed within the scope of the construction management macro-process, which involves multiple sectors of the company, as well as external agents. The strategy is based on implementing Proofs of Concept as tools for converting the data culture within the company and, at the same time, supporting the essential activities of construction management. The proofs of concept aligned with the change in data culture have two components: technology and people. The first consists mainly of intelligent automation and process optimization. The second component involves sensitization, training and developing solutions together with the company's employees. The results involve a reduction in workload since some activities have been partially or totally transferred to the software.
