ABSTRACT This study analyzes the operational efficiency of Brazil’s 30 largest airports from 2014 to 2018, using a two-stage model. Operational efficiency is defined as an airport’s capacity to effectively utilize resources, such as facilities, staff, and technology, to cater to air traffic and passenger needs. The first stage involved measuring operational efficiency through data envelopment analysis. The second stage used a three-level hierarchical linear model to identify influencing variables. Key findings reveal that location significantly impacts airport efficiency, which generally declined during the study period. The interest rate, the only notable economic factor, had a negative effect on efficiency. Factors like the number of aircraft parking positions, years of airport operation, and the number of airlines positively influenced efficiency. Conversely, governance structure, airport size, commercial establishment count, and vehicle parking lot numbers didn’t notably affect efficiency variation. This methodological approach provided more accurate predictions than traditional regression models. RESUMO A presença de contaminantes emergentes nas águas superficiais é uma preocupação crescente, pois essas substâncias não são normalmente monitoradas por sistemas de qualidade ambiental, podendo levar ao consumo de água contaminada. Neste estudo, a presença de cafeína, um contaminante emergente que é ingerido exclusivamente por humanos e está presente em águas superficiais devido às suas características químicas, foi investigada como um potencial indicador de contaminação antrópica no rio Itajaí-Açu no bioma Mata Atlântica sul do Brasil. Além disso, outros doze poluentes emergentes foram examinados no rio Itajaí-Açu, incluindo estrona (E1), estradiol (E2), etinilestradiol (EE2), estriol (E3), prednisona (PD), hexestrol (HEX), paracetamol (ACM), oxitetraciclina (OC). Amostras de água superficial foram coletadas ao longo de cinco meses e analisadas por cromatografia líquida de alta eficiência. Os resultados revelaram que a cafeína estava presente em 84% das amostras analisadas, e os poluentes emergentes estavam presentes em todos os municípios monitorados. O estudo também investigou a relação entre um índice integrado de qualidade da água, as magnitudes e ocorrências de cafeína e o uso da terra. ABSTRACT The presence of emerging contaminants in surface water is a growing concern, as these substances are not typically monitored by environmental quality systems, potentially leading to the consumption of contaminated water. In this study, the presence of caffeine, an emerging contaminant that is ingested solely by humans and is present in surface water due to its chemical characteristics, was investigated as a potential indicator of anthropogenic contamination in the Itajaí-Açu River in the southern Brazilian Atlantic Forest biome. Additionally, twelve other emerging pollutants were examined in the Itajaí-Açu River, including estrone (E1), estradiol (E2), ethinylestradiol (EE2), estriol (E3), prednisone (PD), hexestrol (HEX), acetaminophen (ACM), Oxytetracicline (OC). Surface water samples were collected over five months and analyzed using high-performance liquid chromatography. The results revealed that caffeine was present in 84% of the analyzed samples, and emerging pollutants were present in all monitored municipalities. The study also investigated the relationship between an integrated water quality index, the magnitudes and occurrences of caffeine, and land use. The emerging pollutants Estrone, Ethinylestradiol, Hexestrol, Naproxen and Oxytetracycline were not detected in the analyzed samples. However, Ibuprofen, Tetracycline, Prednisone, and Acetaminophen were present in 44% and 36% of the samples, respectively, with Estriol, Ketoprofen, and Estradiol having a lower occurrence. The mean concentrations of Estradiol, Estriol, Ketoprofen, Acetaminophen, and Ibuprofen were 0.08 µg L-1, 0.23 µg L-1, 0.15 µg L-1, 0.42 µg L-1, and 0.44 µg L-1, respectively, and were higher than previously reported. The concentration range of caffeine during the study was <0.10 to 1.48 µg L-1, with the mean concentration being 0.30 µg L-1. ABSTRACT The Brazilian Navy (BN) has its combatant force concentrated in an area with only one exit to the sea. Nevertheless, Brazil has an extensive coast that needs to be patrolled and, in case of any kind of conflict, the BN must be able to defend the sovereignty and interests of the country. For this purpose, a robust and decentralized naval force is necessary, which allows the fulfillment of its mission. This paper aims to classify the most suitable cities in Brazil to be established as naval bases by applying the ELECTRE-MOr hybrid method. Seventeen cities were analyzed, which have an opening to the sea and a pre-existing minimum port structure. The alternatives were evaluated by specialists from the BN, with more than twenty years of active service, in the light of operational, economic and strategic criteria. As a result, five alternatives were classified as the most indicated headquarters for the decentralization of the naval power: Belém/PA, São Luis/MA, Fortaleza/CE, Recife/PE and Aratu/BA. This article presents relevance to academia and society, as it represents the application of a method in the state of the art to support the decision-making process in a significant problem for the sovereignty of Brazil, presenting a methodology that can be applied in issues of tactical, operational, strategic and political levels. Resumo A vegetação em regeneração passa por diferentes estágios ao longo do tempo, cada um com diferentes condições para o escoamento da água precipitada até a superfície do solo. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a interceptação, a precipitação interna, o escoamento pelo tronco e o escoamento superficial em estágios inicial e avançado de regeneração na Floresta Ombrófila Densa Montana no Parque Nacional da Serra do Itajaí em Indaial/SC. A precipitação externa foi amostrada por três pluviômetros e a precipitação interna foi medida através do uso de calhas do tipo "U". O escoamento pelo tronco foi medido em 24 árvores por estágio de regeneração. A perda por interceptação foi calculada pela diferença entre a precipitação total e a soma da precipitação interna e do escoamento pelo tronco. O escoamento superficial foi medido utilizando calhas de metal. A vegetação arbórea do estágio inicial é composta por 7 espécies com área basal de 5,01 m².ha-1 e do estágio avançado é composta por 28 espécies com área basal de 34,7 m².ha-1. A precipitação interna foi de 81,7% da precipitação externa no estágio inicial e 74,1% no estágio avançado. O escoamento pelo tronco foi de 5,93% no estágio inicial e 0,54% no estágio avançado. A perda por interceptação foi de 13,2% no estágio inicial e 25,8% no estágio avançado. O escoamento superficial foi de 11,1% no estágio inicial e 10,7% no estágio avançado. Abstract In natural regeneration, vegetation goes through different stages over time, each of them with different conditions to drain the precipitated water to the soil surface. The aim of this study was to evaluate interception loss, throughfall, stemflow and surface runoff in early and advanced stages regeneration at evergreen rainforest subtype sites within the Atlantic Forest, located in the Serra do Itajaí National Park, in southern Brazil. Rainfall was sampled by three rain gauges and throughfall was measured using "U" type gutters. The stemflow was measured in 24 trees per stage (i.e., 48 trees in total). The interception loss was calculated as the difference between rainfall and the sum of the throughfall plus stemflow. The surface runoff was evaluated using metal rails. Vegetation in the initial stage is a composition of 7 species with a basal area of 5.01 m².ha-1 and advanced stage site consists of 28 species with a basal area of 34.7 m².ha-1. Throughfall records were 81.7% in the initial and 74.1% in the advanced regeneration stages. The stemflows registered were 5.93% in the initial stage and 0.54% in the advanced stage while the interception losses were respectively 13.2% and 25.8%. Surface runoffs observations were 11.1% in the initial stage and 10.7% in the advanced stage. Statistically significant differences were found between the regeneration stages for the stemflow and for the interception loss parameters. The study showed that, for some hydrological processes, the behavior of the precipitated water differs for the stage of vegetation regeneration. RESUMO A adsorção é uma das tecnologias mais eficientes para a remoção de Compostos Emergentes Preocupantes (CEC), principalmente porque não produz produtos secundários de degradação e não é de difícil aplicação. O uso de carvão ativado em países em desenvolvimento ainda é caro, principalmente em razão de sua produção. Nesse contexto, este estudo avaliou a relação entre a adsorção multicomponente de CEC em adsorventes à base de lignina e as características dos compostos. Em detalhe, 27 compostos alvo foram preparados em solução aquosa e submetidos à adsorção em três materiais diferentes (dois de base lignocelulósica e um carvão ativado granular). Todas as amostras foram analisadas em cromatografia líquida de ultraeficiência acoplada à espectrometria de massas. Os resultados foram avaliados com o auxílio da técnica de regressão multivariada por mínimos quadrados (PLS-R). Observou-se que a adsorção de produtos farmacêuticos de Micropoluentes Orgânicos (OMP) em carvões ativados é um processo complexo, governado não apenas pelas propriedades das moléculas adsorvidas, e que a eficiência de remoção pode ser alterada por propriedades externas (por exemplo, propriedades adsorbents, pH, matéria orgânica). Mesmo que se atingisse uma excelente porcentagem média de remoção (5,44 – 128,91%), a influência de outros compostos orgânicos não poderia ser desprezada. Infelizmente, para se obter uma boa compreensão das interações entre a molécula química única e os adsorventes, seria necessário estudar o processo para cada composto separadamente dos outros e então considerar o efeito de matriz em razão da mistura de vários fármacos com substâncias muito diferentes.

ABSTRACT Adsorption is one of the most efficient technologies for the removal of Concerning Emergent Compounds (CECs), also known as Organic Micropollutant (OMP). However, the use of activated carbon in developing countries is still costly. Thus, lignocellulosic residues are used as a base for making new adsorbent materials. This study assessed the relationship between the multicomponent adsorption of CECs in lignin-based adsorbents and the characteristics of the compounds. For this, 27 target compounds were prepared in an aqueous solution and submitted to the adsorption in 3 different materials. All the samples were analyzed in ultra-performance liquid chromatography coupled with mass spectrometry. The results were evaluated with the aid of the multivariate least squares regression (PLS-R) technique. It was observed that the adsorption of pharmaceuticals on activated carbons is a complex process governed by the properties of the adsorbed molecules, and the removal efficiency could be altered by external properties (e.g., adsorbent properties, pH, and organic matter). Even if it was reached an excellent average percentage removal (5.44 – 128.91%), the influence of other organic compounds could not be neglected. Unfortunately, to obtain a good understanding of the interactions between the single chemical molecule and the adsorbents, it would be necessary to study the process for each compound separately from the others and then consider the matrix effect due to the mixing of various pharmaceuticals with very different properties.

ABSTRACT The increasing rates of nosocomial infection associated with coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS) were the rationale for this study, aiming to categorize oxacillin-resistant CoNS species recovered from blood culture specimens of inpatients at the UNESP Hospital das Clínicas in Botucatu, Brazil, over a 20-year period, and determine their sensitivity to other antimicrobial agents. The mecA gene was detected in 222 (74%) CoNS samples, and the four types of staphylococcal chromosomal cassette mec (SCCmec) were characterized in 19.4%, 3.6%, 54.5%, and 14.4% of specimens, respectively, for types I, II, III, and IV. Minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) values to inhibit 50% (MIC50) and 90% (MIC90) of specimens were, respectively, 2 and >256 µL/mL for oxacillin, 1.5 and 2 µL/mL for vancomycin, 0.25 and 0.5 µL/mL for linezolid, 0.094 and 0.19 µL/mL for daptomycin, 0.19 and 0.5 µL/mL for quinupristin/dalfopristin, and 0.125 and 0.38 µL/mL for tigecycline. Resistance to oxacillin and tigecycline and intermediate resistance to quinupristin/dalfopristin were observed. Eight (2.7%) of all 300 CoNS specimens studied showed reduced susceptibility to vancomycin. Results from this study show high resistance rates of CoNS to antimicrobial agents, reflecting the necessity of using these drugs judiciously and controlling nosocomial dissemination of these pathogens.

Dentre as rotas de entrada de DE no meio ambiente, destacam-se o lançamento de águas residuais domésticas e agrícolas em corpos d'água. Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar a ocorrência, mobilidade e atenuação de biossorção de hormônios e antibióticos na coluna do solo sob aplicação de resíduos agrícolas e domésticos e simulação de chuvas. Colunas de solo, preenchidas com o solo de uma área agrícola, foram instaladas nas condições de aplicação de águas residuais de suínos (ARS), na dose de 50 m3/ha sob e sem efeito de biossorvente, e na urina humana a uma taxa equivalente em nitrogênio comparada para ARS. As concentrações de estrogênio foram observadas por HPLC-DAD, e foram desenvolvidos balanços de massa para avaliar a remoção de estrogênio no perfil do solo. As ocorrências de hormônios em todas as análises foram de aproximadamente 20%. Observou-se ainda uma eficácia considerável do adsorvente da casca de pinheiro na remoção de hormônios de matrizes líquidas. O balanço de massa das colunas do solo com adsorvente mostrou uma recuperação de estrógenos presente na matriz aplicada a uma taxa inferior a 1%. Para comparação, as colunas de solo sem adsorvente obtiveram um transporte de massa de cerca de 20% do total aplicado.

ABSTRACT Endocrine disruptors (ED) are exogenous agents capable of deregulating the normal functioning of the endocrine system in humans and animals. The ED entry routes in the environment highlight the launch of domestic and agricultural wastewater in water bodies. This work aims to evaluate the occurrence, mobility and biosorption attenuation of hormones and antibiotics in soil columns in the application of agricultural and domestic waste and rain simulation. Soil columns, which were filled with soil from an agricultural area, were installed under the conditions of a swine wastewater application (ARS) at a dose of 50 m3/ha with and without the biosorbent effect and human urine at a rate equivalent to nitrogen compared with ARS. The estrogen concentrations were observed by High-performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode array detector (HPLC-DAD), and the mass balance was developed to evaluate the estrogen removal in the soil profile. The occurrence of hormones in all analyses was approximately 20%. Pine bark adsorbent was found to be considerably efficient in removing hormones from liquid matrices. The mass balance of the soil columns with adsorbent exhibited an estrogen recovery in the matrix applied to less than a 1% rate. For comparison, the soil columns without adsorbent obtained a mass transit about 20% of the total applied.

RESUMO A implementação dos instrumentos da Política Nacional de Recursos Hídricos depende de informações detalhadas no espaço e no tempo, em grande escala, no âmbito da bacia hidrográfica. Este trabalho tem como objetivo avaliar cenários para suporte à gestão de qualidade da água em bacias hidrográficas por modelagem com discretização espaço-temporal distribuída, em pequena dimensão espacial. Foi aplicado o modelo hidrológico SWAT na bacia do rio Itajaí. A bacia hidrográfica de 15000 km2 foi discretizada em 2103 unidade de resposta hidrológica (HRU). Para cada foram alimentados os dados de entrada do modelo, dos aspectos quantitativos e qualitativos. As séries temporais de qualidade das águas foram obtidas em monitoramentos não sistemáticos, provenientes de diferentes fontes, como empresas de abastecimento de águas, empresas potencialmente poluidoras, entre outras. A calibração e validação do modelo foram realizadas, apresentando resultados adequados tanto para o processo quantitativo como para o processo qualitativo. Foram analisados os cenários da situação atual e evolutivos de contribuição de poluentes, para quatro parâmetros de qualidade da água (demanda bioquímica de oxigênio, fósforo total, nitrogênio total e coliformes termotolerantes). Os resultados são expressos pela concentração média, mediana, frequência de não excendência de 80% e vazão de referência, discutindo o índice estatístico que melhor representa as concentrações de poluentes nos corpos hídricos. As simulações mostraram que as medidas propostas para a gestão de qualidade da água da bacia, promovem significativa redução das concentrações dos poluentes em comparação ao cenário crítico. Pela análise dos resultados pode-se afirmar que a discretização da bacia em pequenas áreas de contribuição geram maior precisão dos resultados do modelo e os dados diários e distribuídos na bacia fornecem informações localizadas, de acordo com a ortocodificação da bacia, dando suporte à tomada de decisão de modo a apoiar a gestão de recursos hídricos, contribuindo com o processo de implantação do enquadramento dos corpos de águas superficiais da bacia, assim como servir de modelo genérico para outras finalidades.

ABSTRACT The implementation of National Water Resources Policy instruments depends on detailed information in space and time, on a large scale, within the river basin. This research aims to evaluate scenarios to support water quality management in watershed by modelling with spatio-temporal discretization distributed in a small spatial dimension. The SWAT hydrological model was applied in the Itajai river basin. This hydrographic basin with 15,000 km2 was discretized in 2,103 hydrological response units (HRUs). The model input data for each HRU were fed in, from the quantitative and qualitative aspects. The time series of water quality was obtained in non-systematic monitoring from different sources, such as water supply companies and potential polluting companies, among others. The model calibration and validation were performed, presenting adequate results for both the quantitative and qualitative processes. The scenarios corresponding to current and evolutionary situations of pollutant contribution for four water quality parameters (biochemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus, total nitrogen and thermotolerant coliforms) were analysed. The results are expressed as the mean, median, non-exponential frequency of 80% and reference flow, discussing the statistical index that best represents the pollutant concentrations in the bodies of water. The simulations show that the measures proposed for the water quality management of the basin promote a significant reduction in pollutant concentrations in comparison to the critical scenario. According to the results, it can be affirmed that the discretization of the basin in small contribution areas generates greater results precision of the model. The daily and distributed data in the basin provide localized information, according to the basin ortho coding, supporting the decision in order to support the management of water resources, contributing to the implementation process of the framework of surface water courses in the basin, as well as serving as a generic model for other purposes.

RESUMO Este artigo apresenta uma síntese das sessões especiais do XXIII Simpósio Brasileiro de Recursos Hídricos 2019, com o objetivo de compreender os principais avanços e desafios em recursos hídricos no Brasil. Foram analisados mais de 250 trabalhos e apresentações em 16 sessões especiais abrangendo temas como Variabilidade e Mudanças Climáticas, Desastres, Modelagem, Hidrologia de Grande Escala, Sensoriamento Remoto, Educação e Gestão de Recursos Hídricos. Esta avaliação destacou a diversidade única de atributos naturais e antrópicos dos recursos hídricos brasileiros, que oferece uma grande oportunidade para aprendizado sobre sistemas hidrológico e humano acoplados. A maioria das contribuições é relacionada a métodos e quantificação de fenômenos hídricos, existindo uma necessidade clara de incentivo a mais pesquisas em compreensão de fenômenos. Existe uma vasta rede de coautores, mas principalmente da academia e com certo grau de fragmentação regional. A comunidade da ABRhidro tem o desafio de aumentar a sua rede de colaboração, a cultura de análises de síntese, e construir uma agenda comum para a pesquisa em recursos hídricos. Também é o momento de alinhar esforços com a comunidade de recursos hídricos internacional, usando nossas experiências para contribuir ativamente na solução de questões relacionadas à água em nível global.

ABSTRACT In this paper we synthesize the special sessions of the XXIII Brazilian Water Resources Symposium 2019 in order to understand the major advances and challenges in the water sciences in Brazil. We analyzed more than 250 papers and presentations of 16 special sessions covering topics of Climate Variability and Change, Disasters, Modeling, Large Scale Hydrology, Remote Sensing, Education, and Water Resources Management. This exercise highlighted the unique diversity of natural and human water features in Brazil, that offers a great opportunity for understanding coupled hydrological and societal systems. Most contributions were related to methods and the quantification of water phenomena, therefore, there is a clear necessity for fostering more research on phenomena comprehension. There is a vast network of co-authorship among institutions but mostly from academia and with some degree of regional fragmentation. The ABRhidro community now has the challenge to enhance its collaboration network, the culture of synthesis analysis, and to build a common agenda for water resources research. It is also time for us to be aligned with the international water science community and to use our experiences to actively contribute to the tackling of global water issues.

Resumo Na região subtropical do Brasil, o ambiente é naturalmente caracterizado pelo clima quente e úmido. Essas condições são fatores preponderantes para a ocorrência da formação florestal na região, o bioma Mata Atlântica. Associa-se que qualquer condição diferente daquela que não seja natural, pode receber de forma diferenciada a condição meteorológica local. Supõe-se que florestas ajam como reguladoras, atenuando os índices meteorológicos e microclimáticos. Este estudo comparou uma série temporal de três anos de registro de duas estações meteorológicas, uma em área aberta de pastagem e outra abaixo do dossel de um fragmento florestal de floresta ombrófila densa (Mata Atlântica) em estágio avançado de regeneração. Foram monitoradas a precipitação, a umidade relativa do ar, a radiação global, a temperatura do ar, a velocidade do vento e a temperatura do solo. A evapotranspiração potencial diária foi estimada pela equação de Penman-Monteith (PM-FAO56) para as duas condições. A área florestal apresentou condições meteorológicas diferenciadas em relação à área aberta (pastagem). Por exemplo, o dossel florestal reteve 41,2% da precipitação anual (menor drenagem superficial), a temperatura média diária do ar foi reduzida em 9,5% no ano, assim como a velocidade média do vento, em 87,6%, e a média da radiação global, em 88,1%. A evapotranspiração potencial foi 89,1% superior na pastagem. Valor comprovado pela média anual da umidade do ar, que foi de 7,6% maior no ambiente florestal. O comportamento diário das variáveis mostrou maiores valores na pastagem e por volta das 15h, e mais baixos na floresta no período noturno. Exceto para a umidade relativa do ar que foi inverso. Ou seja, na pastagem ocorrem perdas maiores de água para a atmosfera. O ambiente florestal, por outro lado, retém mais água, formando um “microclima” em seu interior.

Abstract In the subtropical region of Brazil, the environment is naturally characterized by the hot and humid climate. These conditions are preponderant factors for the occurrence of forest formation, the Atlantic Forest biome. Any non-natural environment can receive negatively the local meteorological condition. Forests act as regulators mitigating the meteorological and microclimatic indices. Three-year data of two meteorological stations were used, one in an open pasture area and one under the canopy of a forest fragment of the dense Ombrophilous forest (Mata Atlântica) in advanced stage of regeneration. Precipitation, relative air humidity, global radiation, air temperature, wind speed and soil temperature were monitored. Potential daily evapotranspiration was estimated by the Penman-Monteith equation (PM-FAO56) for both conditions. The forest area presented different meteorological conditions when compared to the open area (pasture). For example, forest canopy retained 41.2% of annual precipitation (lower surface drainage), the average daily air temperature was reduced by 9.5%, as well as the average wind speed by 87.6%, and mean radiation by 88.1%. Potential evapotranspiration was 89.1% higher in pasture. This value is corroborated by the annual average of air humidity which was 7.6% higher in the forest. The daily behavior of meteorological variables showed higher values in the pasture and around 15h, and lower in the forest at night. Except for the relative humidity that was the inverse. In pasture there are larger losses of water to the atmosphere. The forest environment, on the other hand, retains more water, forming a “microclimate” inside the forest canopy.

RESUMO Este trabalho avaliou a resposta de dois cenários (4.5 e 8.5) do modelo Eta sobre a qualidade (sedimento - TSS, nitrato - NO3 e fosfato - PO4) e quantidade (vazão - Q) na bacia hidrográfica do Ribeirão Concórdia, no bioma Mata Atlântica. A importância do trabalho está na verificação dos cenários até o ano de 2099, tendo em vista as práticas agrícolas atuais (2016). Foi utilizado o modelo SWAT, geralmente aplicado para processos hidrológicos, no sentido de avaliar a qualidade da água, por meio do monitoramento mensal na bacia hidrográfica (2010-2014). Q apresentou uma tendência de aumento não acentuado. Modificações em Q foram transmitidas para TSS e PO4. Não houve diferença significativa entre os cenários testados.

ABSTRACT This work evaluated the response of two scenarios (4.5 and 8.5) of the Eta Model on the quality (sediment - TSS, nitrate - NO3- and phosphate - PO43-) and quantity (flow - Q) of the Concordia Catchment in the Atlantic forest biome. The importance of the work lies in the comparison of both scenarios until 2099, using current agricultural practices (2016). The SWAT model normally used for hydrological purposes has been applied to evaluate water quality from the monitoring programme database (2010-2014). Q showed a non-accentuated, upward trend. Modifications in Q were transmitted to TSS and PO43-. There was no significant difference between the tested scenarios.

RESUMO Neste trabalho avaliou-se o comportamento de um reator UASB em escala laboratorial (16 L) no tratamento de lodo biológico têxtil com produção de biogás, operando em diferentes temperaturas, 35 (mesofílica), 45 e 55ºC (termofílica), com tempo de detenção hidráulica (TDH) constante de 24 h. O reator UASB apresentou-se apto a tratar o lodo têxtil, sendo influenciado positivamente pelo incremento da temperatura, mostrando maiores remoções nas temperaturas termofílicas e com altas taxas de remoção de todos os parâmetros físico-químicos monitorados: demanda química de oxigênio (DQO) (97% em 45 e 55ºC), demanda bioquímica de oxigênio (DBO) (95% em 45ºC e 94% em 55ºC), fósforo total (P-total) (95% a 45 e 55ºC) e nitrogênio total (N-total) (94% a 45 e 55ºC). Quanto à produção de biogás e à concentração de metano, os maiores valores foram observados a 45ºC. Com base nos resultados alcançados, confirmam-se a tratabilidade do lodo têxtil e a produção de biogás em UASB, com melhor performance a 45ºC.

ABSTRACT The aim of this work was to evaluate the behavior of a laboratory-scale UASB reactor (16 L) in the treatment of textile biological sludge with biogas production, operating at different temperatures - 35 (mesophilic), 45 and 55ºC (thermophilic) -, with constant hydraulic retention time of 24 h. The UASB reactor was able to treat the textile sludge, being positively influenced by increasing temperature, with greater removals in thermophilic temperatures and high removal rates of all monitored physical and chemical parameters: chemical oxygen demand (COD) (97% at 45 and 55ºC), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) (95% at 45ºC and 94% at 55ºC), total phosphorus (P-total) (95% at 45 and 55ºC) and total nitrogen (N-total) (94% at 45 and 55ºC). As for biogas production and methane concentration, the highest values were observed at 45ºC. Based on the results, textile sludge treatability and biogas production in UASB are confirmed, with best performance at 45ºC.

ABSTRACT Hydrological modelling is one of the main tools in water resources management application. However, several factors make it difficult to extrapolate the estimated parameters in basins with large contribution areas to smaller basins. This research analysed the uncertainties of flow simulations in small basins. The methodological process involves the application of the hydrological simulation model, the soil and water assessment tools (SWAT) to the basin of the Concordia River (30.74 km2) and the Itajai River basin (15,000 km 2). First, six different scenarios of the hydrological response units’ (HRUs) discretisation were compared in the Concordia River basin calibration and validation, evaluating the number of HRUs influencing the small river basin simulation. Then, the model parameters for the Itajai River basin were calibrated in 12 fluviometric stations. Subsequently, the calibrated parameter variation trend was determined through the formulation of regression equations. These equations were developed from the correlation among the physical indices of each fluviometric station and their values. In the present study, the HRUs’ discretisation indicated there is no need to increase the number of HRUs when the goal is to represent the water flow peaks in the small river basin. The results obtained with the application of the regression equation showed the compactness coefficient (kC) could generate up to 42.1% of variation in the mean flow and 82.7% in Q95 of the sub-basins. Therefore, the use of regression equations can help reduce uncertainties generated during parameter calibration.

RESUMO A modelagem hidrológica é uma das principais ferramentas de apoio à gestão dos recursos hídricos. Entretanto, vários fatores dificultam a extrapolação dos parâmetros estimados em bacias com grandes áreas de contribuição para bacias de pequena dimensão. O objetivo deste trabalho foi analisar as incertezas na simulação de vazões em bacias de pequena dimensão. O processo metodológico envolveu a aplicação do modelo de simulação hidrológica Soil and Water Assesssment Tool (SWAT) à bacia representativa do ribeirão Concórdia (30,74 km 2) e à bacia do rio Itajaí (15.000 km2). Primeiramente, comparou-se 6 cenários distintos de discretização das unidades de respostas hidrológicas (HRUs) na calibração e validação da bacia hidrográfica do ribeirão Concórdia, avaliando-se a influência do número de HRU na simulação de pequena bacia hidrográfica. Em seguida, calibrou-se os parâmetros do modelo para a bacia do rio Itajaí, em 12 estações fluviométricas. Posteriormente, determinou-se uma tendência de variação dos parâmetros calibrados através da formulação de equações de regressão. Estas equações foram elaboradas a partir da correlação entre os índices físicos de cada estação fluviométrica considerada e seus valores. No presente estudo, a discretização das HRUs indicou que não há necessidade de aumentar o número de HRU quando o objetivo a ser alcançado é representar os picos do fluxo de água na pequena bacia hidrográfica. Os resultados obtidos com a aplicação das equações de regressão demonstraram que o coeficiente de compacidade (kC) pode gerar até 42,1% de variação na vazão média e 82,7% na Q95 das sub-bacias. Portanto, a utilização das equações de regressão pode auxiliar na redução das incertezas geradas durante a calibração dos parâmetros.

ResumenLepidaploa rufogrisea es una candidata prometedora en la búsqueda de herbicidas naturales, con compuestos (lactano sesquiterpeno- glaucolíde B) los cuales han sido reportados por presentar un potencial fitotóxico contra las malas hierbas. Por lo tanto, este trabajo tuvo como objetivo lograr la investigación fitoquímica de L. rufogrisea, así como también la evaluación de sus efectos biológicos sobre el modelo de planta Lactuca sativa L. Para esto, diferentes extractos (acuosos, hidroalcohólicos y hexanos) de L. rufogrisea fueron evaluados. El porcentaje de semillas germinadas, el índice de velocidad de germinación y la longitud de raíz de plántulas de L. sativa var. Cristina fueron evaluadas, así como también la citotoxicidad de los extractos en las células meristemáticas. Los extractos disminuyeron el índice de velocidad de germinación y también el crecimiento de las raíces de las plántulas de L. sativa. La proliferación celular no se vio significativamente afectada por los extractos. Sin embargo, se observaron alteraciones cromosómicas y nucleares, debido a la interferencia de los aleloquímicos presentes en L. rufogrisea en el huso mitótico. Además, el modelo de planta L. sativa demostró ser eficiente para tales estudios.

AbstractLepidaploa rufogrisea is a promising candidate in the search of natural herbicides, with compounds (sesquiterpene lactones-glaucolide B) which have been reported to present phytotoxic potential against weeds. Thus, this work aimed to accomplish the phytochemical investigation of L. rufogrisea as well as the evaluation of its biological effects on the plant model Lactuca sativa. To this end, different extracts (aqueous, hydroalcoholic and hexane) of L. rufogrisea at different concentrations [0.25, 0.5, 1.0, 2.0 and 4.0 % (m/v)] were evaluated from macroscopic (percentage of germinated seeds, germination speed index and root length) and microscopic analysis (mitotic index and cell cycle alterations) in plantlets (150 per treatment) and meristematic cells (10 000 per treatment) of L. sativa var. Cristina. The extracts decreased the germination speed index and also the root growth of L. sativa plantlets. Cell proliferation was not significantly affected by the extracts. However, some chromosome and nuclear alterations in the mitotic spindle were observed, due to the interference of allelochemicals present in L. rufogrisea. Moreover, the plant model L. sativa demonstrated to be efficient for this kind of studies.

RESUMO As mudanças de paisagem têm sido foco de pesquisas na área ambiental. Nesse contexto, os modelos hidrológicos se destacam como ferramentas para diferentes análises. Nesse trabalho, o objetivo foi utilizar o modelo hidrológico SWAT para simular os impactos das alterações no uso e ocupação das terras da bacia hidrográfica do Rio Camboriú (BHRC) entre os anos de 1957, 1978 e 2012. Os resultados indicaram que SWAT foi eficiente para simulação da vazão e da perda de solo possibilitando a quantificação dos impactos a partir da simulação de cenários. As mudanças na cobertura do solo acarretaram alterações significativas no regime hidrossedimentológico. Para a vazão, os impactos foram maiores nos extremos da curva de permanência. O cenário 2012 se destacou negativamente por apresentar as maiores vazões de pico e as menores vazões em período de estiagem. Para a perda de solo, os maiores valores foram identificados nas sub-bacias com uso predominante para rizicultura e pastagens, o que foi atribuído, fundamentalmente, a alterações da taxa de escoamento superficial e aos fatores relacionados ao uso, manejo do solo e práticas conservacionistas. De maneira geral, a BHRC não apresentou problemas severos de perda de solo, entretanto, as mudanças na paisagem associadas as características edafoclimáticas podem favorecer a degradação do solo, principalmente em anos com elevados volumes de precipitação.

ABSTRACT Changes in the Earth’s landscape have been the focus of much environmental research. In this context, hydrological models stand out as tools for several assessments. This study aimed to use the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) hydrological model to simulate the impact of changes in land use in the Camboriú River Watershed in the years 1957, 1978, and 2012. The results indicated that the SWAT model was efficient in simulating water flow and sediment transport processes. Thus, it was possible to evaluate the impact of different land use scenarios on water and sediment yield in the catchment. The changes in land use caused significant changes in the hydro-sedimentological dynamic. Regarding flow, the effects of land use changes were more pronounced at both ends of the curve representing duration of flow. The worst scenario was identified for the year 2012, which saw the highest peak discharges during flood events and lowest flows during the dry season. Concerning soil erosion, the highest values were identified for sub-basins that were predominantly covered by rice paddies and pastures; this was attributed mainly to surface runoff and changes in land use (represented by C-USLE). Overall, the Camboriú River Basin did not experience severe soil erosion issues; however, it was found that changes in land use related to soil and climate characteristics may increase soil degradation, especially in years with high precipitation levels.
