In last decades, technical-scientific investigations into cultural heritage assets have increasingly become part of analysis methodologies accessible to professionals from different areas for a broad understanding of the complex material and historical nature of objects. In this interdisciplinary word, the painting “Costureiras” by Tarsila do Amaral (1886-1973), from 1950, was studied by ultraviolet-induced visible luminescence (UVL), infrared image (IR) and macro X-ray fluorescence scanning (MA-XRF) techniques. UVL and MA-XRF images enabled the exploration of the conservation status of the artwork, the creative process of the artist, and areas featuring materials distinct from the original painting. By combining the results of IR and MA-XRF images, it was confirmed that changes occurred in the creative process during the composition of the artwork. Resumo As larvas de Oestrus ovis são parasitas obrigatórios de vertebrados e causam miíase cavitária (estrose) em ovinos e caprinos. Também é relatada como uma zoonose que causa oftalmomíase e miíase nasofaríngea. Apesar de relativamente comum no Brasil, os estudos epidemiológicos sobre O. ovis são escassos. Considerando que a infestação é influenciada pelo clima e biomas da região estudada, objetivou-se investigar a prevalência sazonal de O. ovis entre ovinos abatidos na região norte do estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. Foram coletadas cabeças de ovinos (n=697) abatidos em frigorífico do município de Terra Nova do Norte (novembro de 2011 a novembro de 2013) para contagem, catalogação e identificação das larvas encontradas no trato respiratório superior. No geral, 45,77% (319/697) dos animais estavam infestados com 2.412 larvas recuperadas, das quais 96,89% (2.337/2.412) foram identificadas em nível de espécie como O. ovis. As variações sazonais na prevalência variaram de 41% (primavera) a 56% (verão); no entanto, não foi observada correlação entre prevalência e estação do ano, umidade média ou temperatura. Abstract Oestrus ovis larvae are obligate parasites of vertebrates and cause cavitary myiasis (oestrosis) in sheep and goats. It is also reported as a zoonosis causing ophthalmomyiasis and nasopharyngeal myiasis. Despite being relatively common in Brazil, epidemiological studies on O. ovis are scarce. Considering that the infestation is influenced by the climate and biomes of the studied region, we aimed to investigate the seasonal prevalence of O. ovis among slaughtered sheep in the northern region of the state of Mato Grosso, Brazil. The heads of sheep (n=697) slaughtered at a slaughterhouse in the municipality of Terra Nova do Norte (November 2011 to November 2013) were collected to count, catalog, and identify the larvae found in the upper respiratory tract. Overall, 45.77% (319/697) of the animals were infested with 2,412 recovered larvae, 96.89% (2,337/2,412) of which were identified at the species level as O. ovis. Seasonal variations in prevalence ranged from 41% (spring) to 56% (summer); however, no correlation was observed between prevalence and season, mean humidity, or temperature. Abstract Leprosy is a disease caused by the infection of Mycobacterium leprae, which primarily affects the skin and peripheral nerves and can cause numerous alterations in the eyes. Ocular manifestations are common in the multibacillary form, especially in the virchowian type. ABSTRACT The traumatic bone cyst is an uncommon nonneoplastic lesion of the jaws that is considered as a “pseudocyst” because of the lack of an epithelial lining. This lesion is particularly asymptomatic and, therefore, is diagnosed by routine dental radiographic examination as a unilocular radiolucency with scalloped borders, mainly in the posterior mandibular region. The exact etiopathogenesis of the lesion remains uncertain, though it is often associated with trauma. Abstract This study evaluated the chemical profile and antimicrobial activity of essential oil (EO) ofP. dioica. The EOs were extracted by hydrodistillation and chemically characterized by gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry (GC/MS). The total phenolics were quantified by the FolinCiocalteu method. For the antimicrobial assay, the Disc Diffusion and Broth Dilution method were applied to obtain the minimum inhibitory concentration and minimum bactericidal concentration. The main constituent of the EO was eugenol. The EO showed bactericidal activity against E. coli,S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, Salmonella sp., B. cereus, P. mirabilis, K. pneumoniae, S. sonnei, C. albicans, Fusarium sp., Penicillium sp.andAspergilus sp.The results obtained are encouraged by the potential use of the EO studied in the control and combat of pathogenic microorganisms.

Resumen Este estudio evaluó el perfil químico y la actividad antimicrobiana del aceite esencial (AE) de P. dioica. Los AE fueron extraídos por hidrodestilación y caracterizados químicamente por cromatografía de gases acoplados a espectrometría de masas (GC/MS). Los fenólicos totales fueron cuantificados por el método Folin-Ciocalteu. Para el ensayo antimicrobiano, se aplicó el método de difusión de discos y dilución de caldo para obtener la concentración inhibitoria mínima y la concentración bactericida mínima. El componente principal de la AE fue el eugenol. La AE mostró actividad bactericida contra E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, Salmonella sp., B. cereus, P. mirabilis, K. pneumoniae, S. sonnei, C. albicans, Fusarium sp., Penicilliumsp. yAspergilussp. Los resultados obtenidos son estimulados por el uso potencial de la AE estudiada en el control y combate de microorganismos patógenos.

RESUMEN Bixa orellana L. es ampliamente utilizado como un tinte y tiene otras propiedades que han sido poco estudiadas, especialmente en relación con las hojas. Este artículo evalúa cómo el secado B. orellana L. influye en las propiedades de los aceites esenciales (EOs) extraídos de sus hojas. El material vegetal recogido se sometió al horno de secado por aire convectivo a temperaturas de 35, 45 y 55 °C. Los perfiles químicos fueron determinados por GC-MS. Se aplicaron modelos matemáticos para representar el proceso de secado y el análisis estadístico realizado utilizando el software Statistica 10. Las EO se obtuvieron a través de la técnica de hidrodestilación con verificación de propiedades fisicoquímicas y actividad antimicrobiana. Para el ensayo de toxicidad se aplicó el bioensayo a Artemia salina. A través de los resultados obtenidos fue posible determinar el modelo matemático que se ajustaba mejor. Se observaron diferencias significativas en las propiedades de los EO. La temperatura de 45 °C permitió obtener el mejor rendimiento de EO, porque la actividad antimicrobiana fue más eficiente. Este estudio afirma a través de las actividades analizadas que la temperatura de secado influye en las propiedades fisicoquímicas y biológicas de las EO. Estudios como este evalúan el mejor modelo matemático para predecir el secado, así como las temperaturas específicas que influyen en las propiedades del producto obtenido.

SUMMARY Bixa orellana L. is widely used as a dye, and other properties are still little studied, especially in relation to leaves. This article evaluates how drying B. orellana L. influences the properties of essential oils (EOs) extracted from their leaves. The collected plant material was submitted to convective air-drying oven at temperatures of 35, 45 and 55 °C. Chemical profiles were determined by Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). Mathematical models were applied to represent the drying process and statistical analysis performed using Statistica 10 software. The EO's were obtained through the hydrodistillation technique with verification of physicochemical properties and antimicrobial activity by the Disc Diffusion Method. For the toxicity test, the bioassay was applied to Artemia salina. Through the results obtained it was possible to determine that the mathematical model of Verma was the one that best fitted the experimental data. Significant differences in the properties of EO's were observed. The temperature of 45 °C allowed obtaining the best EO yield, still presenting the most efficient antimicrobial activity. This study states through the activities analyzed that the drying temperature influences the physicochemical and biological properties of the EO's, thus requiring studies such as this one that evaluate the best mathematical model to predict drying as well as the specific temperatures that influence the properties of the product obtained.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a qualidade da pastagem e a emissão de metano (CH4) entérico de bovinos Curraleiro Pé-duro x Nelore, em pastagem de Megathyrsus maximus 'Mombaça', tanto a pleno sol como em consórcio com palmeiras de babaçu (Attalea spp.), no bioma Amazônia. O delineamento experimental foi inteiramente casualizado, com seis novilhos por sistema, e as avaliações foram realizadas nos períodos seco (2015) e no chuvoso (2016). Em comparação à forragem no sistema a pleno sol, a forragem no sistema silvopastoril apresentou maiores teores de proteína bruta, extrato etéreo, nutrientes digestíveis totais e digestibilidade in vitro da matéria orgânica, e menores teores de matéria seca, fibra em detergente neutro e carboidratos totais (CHOT). No período das águas, o sistema silvopastoril apresentou maiores teores de proteína bruta e reduções de carboidratos não fibrosos e CHOT. As emissões de CH4 foram semelhantes entre os sistemas, tendo variado de 44,0 a 74,2 kg por animal por ano. No período seco, a emissão por quilograma de matéria seca ingerida e a perda de energia bruta por metano foram menores no sistema silvopastoril. No período chuvoso, as emissões foram similares entre os tratamentos. O sistema silvopastoril oferece pastagem de boa qualidade na seca e, considerando-se o ciclo com ambos os períodos, é mais eficiente (emissão de CH4 pelo ganho de peso diário) do que o sistema a pleno sol.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the quality of pasture and enteric methane (CH4) emission of Curraleiro Pé-duro x Nellore cattle in a pasture of Megathyrsus maximus 'Mombaça', both in full sun and in a consortium with babassu palms (Attalea spp.) in the Amazonian biome. The experimental design was completely randomized, with six steers per system, and the evaluations were done during the dry period (2015) and rainy period (2016). In comparison to forage in the full sun system, forage in the silvopastoral system showed, in the dry period, higher levels of crude protein, ether extract, total digestible nutrient, and in vitro digestible organic matter, and lower levels of dry matter, neutral detergent fiber, and total carbohydrate (TCHO). In the rainy period, forage in the silvopastoral system showed higher levels of crude protein and a reduction of nonfibrous carbohydrate and TCHO. The CH4 emissions were similar in both systems within the same period, and ranged from 44.0 to 74.2 kg per year per animal. During the dry period, the emission per kilogram of dry ingested matter and the loss of gross energy as methane were lower in the silvopastoral system. During the rainy period, the emissions were similar in both systems. The silvopastoral system yields forage with good quality in the dry period, and considering both periods, it is more efficient (emission of CH4 per daily weight gain) than the system in full sun.

RESUMO: O estudo foi realizado em uma fazenda de criação de gado de corte na região do extremo sul do Brasil. O nascimento de um bezerro com opacidade unilateral da córnea foi imediatamente relatado ao Laboratório de Parasitologia da Universidade Federal de Pelotas (RS) e coletou-se sangue da vaca e do bezerro antes da ingestão do colostro. Foram coletados sangue e cordão umbilical do bezerro com opacidade na córnea bem como de outros seis bezerros aparentemente saudáveis antes da ingestão de colostro. Foram realizados exames sorológicos utilizando o teste indireto de anticorpos fluorescentes (IFAT) com ponto de corte de 1: 100 e reação em cadeia da polimerase (PCR). O resultado dos exames sorológicos mostraram que o bezerro foi positivo para N. caninum ao nascer com titulação de 1:1600 e o de sua mãe foi de 1:3200 na IFAT. A PCR do cordão umbilical foi positiva para o agente no animal com opacidade córnea unilateral e a identidade molecular do produto amplificado foi confirmada por sequenciamento. A detecção de DNA de N. caninum no cordão umbilical é uma nova alternativa para o diagnóstico deste agente em bezerros recém-nascidos com suspeita clínica de neosporose.

The birth of a calf with unilateral corneal opacity was immediately reported to the Laboratory of Parasitology, in the Universidade Federal de Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil; blood was collected from the cow and calf before colostrum intake. The umbilical cords from this calf and from six other healthy animals were collected. Serological examination, utilizing an indirect fluorescent antibody test, was done using a cut-off point of 1:100. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was also performed using the umbilical cord samples. Serological tests showed that the calf was positive for Neospora caninum at birth, with a titer of 1:1600; a titer of 1:3200 was reported in the dam. PCR, using umbilical cord tissue from the affected animal, was positive for the presence of this parasite, and the molecular identity of the amplified product was confirmed by sequencing. Therefore, the detection of N. caninum DNA in the umbilical cord represents a novel alternative test for the diagnosis of this parasitic infection in newborn calves that are clinically suspected to have neosporosis.

Resumo Análise histórica das políticas de Atenção Primária no Brasil, com ênfase na Estratégia Saúde da Família (ESF) e no Programa Mais Médicos (PMM). Realizaram-se estudos de documentos e dados secundários oficiais, bem como de produção bibliográfica sobre esse tema. Constatou-se que houve consolidação da Atenção Primária como alternativa para o cuidado em saúde para grande parte da população do Brasil. Observaram-se, contudo, entraves estruturais que têm comprometido a efetividade e a sustentabilidade dessa política. Identificou-se que estes obstáculos decorrem, principalmente, do financiamento insuficiente e de modalidades de planejamento e de gestão ineficientes. O Programa Mais Médicos ampliou a cobertura assistencial e tornou mais equitativa a distribuição de médicos na Atenção Básica, não conseguindo, entretanto, resolver problemas estruturais do sistema público.

Abstract An historical analysis of Brazil's policies in Primary Healthcare, with emphasis on the Family Health Strategy (FHS), and the Mais Médicos Program (PMM). Studies were made of documents and secondary official data, and the bibliography that has been produced on this theme. It was found that primary healthcare has been established and successfully consolidated as an option in healthcare for a great part of the population of Brazil. There have, however, been structural hurdles, which have tended to compromise the effectiveness and sustainability of this policy. It was identified that these obstacles arise principally from insufficient financing and from inefficient modes of planning and management. The Mais Médicos Program has widened care coverage and made the distribution of primary healthcare doctors more equitable, although it has not resolved the structural problems of the public system.

A low cost and environmental friendly extrusion process of the Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) polymer was viabilized by using the 1,2,3-propanetriol (glycerol) as a plasticizer. The characterization of the fibers obtained by this process was the object of study in the present work. The PAN fibers were heat treated in the range of 200 °C to 300 °C, which is the temperature range related to the stabilization/oxidation step. This is a limiting phase during the carbon fiber processing. The characterization of the fibers was made using infrared spectroscopy, thermal analysis and microscopy. TGA revealed that the degradation of the extruded PAN co-VA fibers between 250 °C and 350 °C, corresponded to a 9% weight loss to samples analyzed under oxidizing atmosphere and 18% when the samples were analyzed under inert atmosphere. DSC showed that the exothermic reactions on the extruded PAN co-VA fibers under oxidizing synthetic air was broader and the cyclization started at a lower temperature compared under inert atmosphere. Furthermore, FT-IR analysis correlated with thermal anlysis showed that the stabilization/oxidation process of the extruded PAN fiber were coherent with other works that used PAN fibers obtained by other spinning processes.

A primeira parte desta diretriz abordou o diagnóstico diferencial das neurofibromatoses (NF): neurofibromatose do tipo 1 (NF1), neurofibromatose do tipo 2 (NF2) e schwannomatose (SCH). As NF compartilham algumas características, como a origem neural dos tumores e sinais cutâneos, e afetam cerca de 80 mil brasileiros. O aumento do conhecimento científico sobre as NF tem permitido melhor manejo clínico e redução da morbidade das complicações, resultando em melhor qualidade de vida para os pacientes com NF. A maioria dos médicos é capaz de realizar o diagnóstico das NF, mas a variedade de manifestações clínicas e a dificuldade de se prever o surgimento e a gravidade de complicações, torna o manejo da NF um desafio para o clínico e envolve diferentes especialistas para o tratamento adequado e aconselhamento genético, especialmente a NF2 e a SCH. O presente texto sugere algumas orientações para o acompanhamento dos portadores de NF, com ênfase na NF1.

Part 1 of this guideline addressed the differential diagnosis of the neurofibromatoses (NF): neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1), neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2) and schwannomatosis (SCH). NF shares some features such as the genetic origin of the neural tumors and cutaneous manifestations, and affects nearly 80 thousand Brazilians. Increasing scientific knowledge on NF has allowed better clinical management and reduced rate of complications and morbidity, resulting in higher quality of life for NF patients. Most medical doctors are able to perform NF diagnosis, but the wide range of clinical manifestations and the inability to predict the onset or severity of new features, consequences, or complications make NF management a real clinical challenge, requiring the support of different specialists for proper treatment and genetic counseling, especially in NF2 and SCH. The present text suggests guidelines for the clinical management of NF, with emphasis on NF1.

Mediante revisão narrativa, realizou-se atualização da concepção teórico-metodológica Paideia construída por Campos, bem como foram apontadas instituições públicas que adotaram essa estratégia nas duas últimas décadas. Analisou-se sua aplicação e desdobramentos metodológicos no espaço da gestão (apoio institucional), nas relações interprofissionais (apoio matricial) e na prática da clínica.

Through a narrative review, the Paideia theoretical and methodological concept constructed by Campos was updated. In addition, public institutions that have adopted this strategy over the last two decades were indicated. This study analyzed the application and methodological development of the Paideia concept within the administrative space (institutional support), in interprofessional relationships (matrix support) and in clinical practice.

Mediante la revisión narrativa se realizó la actualización de la concepción teórica y metodológica Paideia construida por Campos, y se mencionaron instituciones públicas que adoptaron esta estrategia en las dos últimas décadas. Se analizó su aplicación y desarrollos metodológicos en el espacio de la gestión (apoyo institucional), en las relaciones interprofesionales (apoyo matricial) y en la práctica clínica.

Este estudo objetivou compreender a formulação do apoio institucional pelo Ministério da Saúde (MS) e como essa estratégia do método da roda vem sendo incorporada ao discurso oficial da gestão federal do SUS. O estudo se situa na categoria de pesquisa qualitativa. Analisamos documentos oficiais, diretrizes nacionais, cadernos de formação e políticas do MS. Identificamos dilemas, dificuldades e limites que os gestores do SUS vivenciam, cotidianamente, ao buscarem estratégias de mudança da lógica tradicional de governo (racionalidade gerencial hegemônica), seja na gestão democrática e participativa, ou na relação entre entes federados. A partir dos documentos analisados, pode-se supor um desejo de mudança por parte desses gestores, visto a consistência teórico-política adequada a isso. Entretanto, apresentam contradições, mostrando dificuldade de integração entre as áreas do MS e deste com os gestores descentralizados (estados e municípios).

This study aimed to understand how institutional support was formulated by the Ministry of Health and how this strategy of a round-table method has been incorporated into the official discourse of the federal management of SUS. This study is categorized as qualitative research. We analyzed official documents, national guidelines, training booklets and policies of the Ministry of Health. We identified dilemmas, difficulties and limits that SUS managers experience daily while seeking strategies to change the traditional logic of government (hegemonic managerial rationality), either through democratic and participative management or in the relationship between federal entities. From the documents analyzed, it may be supposed that these managers have a desire for change, given that the political-theoretical consistency is appropriate for this. However, the documents present contradictions and show the difficulty of integration between areas of the Ministry of Health and between this ministry and the decentralized managers (states and municipalities).

El objetivo de este estudio fue comprender la formulación de apoyo institucional por parte del Ministerio de Salud (MS) y de como esa estrategia del método de la rueda se ha incorporado en el discurso oficial de la gestión federal del SUS. El estudio se sitúa en la categoría de investigación cualitativa. Analizamos los documentos oficiales, las directrices nacionales, los cuadernos de formación y políticas del MS. Identificamos dilemas, dificultades y límites vividos cotidianamente por los gestores del SUS, al buscar estrategias de cambio de la lógica tradicional de gobierno (racionalidad gerencial hegemónica), tanto en la gestión democrática y participativa como en la relación entre los entes de la federación. A partir de los documentos analizados es posible suponer un deseo de cambio por parte de esos gestores, considerando la consistencia teórico-política adecuada a ello. No obstante, presentan contradicciones, mostrando la dificultad de integración entre las áreas del MS y de él con los gestores descentralizados (estados y municipios).
