The study of adsorption kinetics has been gaining ground, due to the fact that adsorption is an operation used in several areas, which drives the development of software for calculating kinetic parameters. In this context, the work aims to develop and validate a free software, with an intuitive interface and easy operation, for processing adsorption kinetic analysis data. The Adsorption Kinetics Calculation (AKC) software was developed in Java language, using Apache Netbeans IDE (integrated development environment) and has three kinetic equations implemented in a non-linear way: pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion implemented and also generates the parameters statistical coefficient of determination (R2) and ARE (average relative error). The software was successful in programming the algorithms, because the parameter values (Qe and C) were similar to the experimental values and the error values (R2 and ARE) were within those predicted by the literature. This paper presents the stages of an acceleration program focused on chemical technologies. We demonstrate how this initiative contributes to the creation of new businesses, startups, and technology licensing from research developed at Brazilian universities. The case of the program Escale-se is discussed. There were 66 technologies submitted, and 14 were selected for the pre-acceleration phase. In this phase, various contents were worked on, such as creating a business model and aspects of scaling hard-science technologies. Teams were evaluated by panels with market specialists, and 6 were selected for the second phase: pre-scaling/proof of concept. Here, proponents were encouraged to validate the business model by connecting with potential clients and partners, as well as planning the development and testing of the product in a relevant environment. Finally, one team was classified for the last stage: scaling/go-to-market - where they received R$ 100,000.00 to scale up their technology and create strategies for raising investments. ABSTRACT Given the large differences in the results of inoculation and co-inoculation in the bean crop, an experiment in cultivating winter beans was carried out in 2019 under greenhouse conditions with the aim of evaluating the performance of the beans and a possible increase in plant growth and grain production, using seeds inoculated or co-inoculated with Rhizobium tropici and Azospirillum brasilense, with and without fungicide and/or insecticide, in sandy and clayey soils. A total of 112 pots were used, and 14 treatments were applied in a completely randomised experimental design, with four replications. The Scott-Knott test was used to analyse the results, and showed that whether using untreated seeds or carrying out complete chemical treatment with fungicide and insecticide plus co-inoculation with R. tropici and A. brasilense, winter bean production was reduced in clayey soil, while the joint use of fungicide and insecticide, fungicide and R. tropici, or fungicide, insecticide and R. tropici, favoured shoot development. Abstract Introduction: Iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn) are bioessential micronutrients for plants but can impair the energetic metabolism when present at high levels. Objective: To assess the photosynthetic performance and oxidative damages in Rhizophora mangle L. leaf tissues at low and high concentrations of Fe (74 and 195 mg kg-1; Feleaf) and Mn (65 and 414 mg kg-1; Mnleaf). Methods: Photosynthetic pigments, chlorophyll a fluorescence, leaf CO2 assimilation and gas exchange and DPPH• radical scavenging capacity were sampled in R. mangle growing in estuarine forests in the North region of Espírito Santo State and the extreme South of Bahia State (Brazil) showing low and high Feleaf and Mnleaf. Results: Effects of high Fe and Mn were not identified on pigment levels. The increase in Feleaf and Mnleaf at the levels observed in this assessment had a positive effect on the number of reaction centers and on the efficiency of the oxygen-evolving complex, evaluated as K-band, while no changes were found in the parameters related to the excitation trapping efficiency at the active center of photosystem II. Distinct interference patterns of Fe and Mn on the functional processes of photosynthesis were identified, especially on CO2 assimilation and reactive oxygen species metabolism, with major effects on CO2 assimilation and carboxylation efficiency of Rubisco at high Mnleaf. Conclusion: These findings demonstrate the efficiency of R. mangle in positively regulating the electron transport chain in response to high Fe and Mn, at least in terms of the preservation of structure and functionality of the plant photosynthetic apparatus. Moreover, interference of high Mnleaf in R. mangle occurs at non-stomatal and biochemical levels. There is an antagonistic interference of these trace elements with the physiology of R. mangle, which is a dominant species in Brazilian mangroves.

Resumen Introducción: El hierro (Fe) y el manganeso (Mn) son micronutrientes bioesenciales para las plantas, pero pueden afectar el metabolismo energético cuando están presentes en niveles altos. Objetivo: Evaluar el desempeño fotosintético y los daños oxidativos en tejidos foliares de Rhizophora mangle L. a bajas y altas concentraciones de Fe (74 y 195 mg kg-1; Feleaf) y Mn (65 y 414 mg kg-1; Mnleaf). Métodos: Se muestrearon pigmentos fotosintéticos, fluorescencia de clorofila a, asimilación e intercambio de gases de CO2 foliar y capacidad de eliminación de radicales DPPH• en R. mangle que crece en bosques de estuarios en la región Norte del estado de Espírito Santo y el extremo Sur del Estado de Bahía (Brasil) mostrando Feleaf y Mnleaf bajos y altos. Resultados: No se identificaron efectos de niveles elevados de Fe y Mn en los niveles de pigmento. El aumento de Feleaf y Mnleaf en los niveles observados en esta evaluación tuvo un efecto positivo en el número de centros de reacción y en la eficiencia del complejo generador de oxígeno, evaluado como banda K, mientras que no se encontraron cambios en los parámetros relacionados con la eficiencia de atrapamiento de excitación en el centro activo del fotosistema II. Se identificaron distintos patrones de interferencia de Fe y Mn en los procesos funcionales de la fotosíntesis, especialmente en la asimilación de CO2 y el metabolismo de las especies reactivas de oxígeno, con efectos importantes en la asimilación de CO2 y la eficiencia de carboxilación de Rubisco a niveles altos de Mnleaf. Conclusión: Los hallazgos demuestran la eficiencia de R. mangle en la regulación positiva de la cadena de transporte de electrones en respuesta a los altos niveles de Fe y Mn, al menos en términos de preservación de la estructura y funcionalidad del aparato fotosintético de la planta. Además, la interferencia de Mnleaf alto en R. mangle se presenta a niveles no estomáticos y bioquímicos. Hay interferencia antagónica de estos oligoelementos con la fisiología de R. mangle, que es una especie dominante en los manglares brasileños.

Abstract The study was proposed due to the perception of the scarcity of studies on the correlation between burnout, coping and social support. Thus, the present study aimed to verify the prevalence of academic burnout and its correlations with coping strategies and social support in students of health courses. The sample consisted of 173 participants, ages between 18 and 30 years (M = 23.71; SD = 7.04). For data collection we used: Sociodemographic questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory for students (MBI-SS), Brief COPE (coping inventory) and Social Support Satisfaction Scale for higher education students (SSSS). The results revealed correlations between the dimensions of emotional exhaustion and cynicism, with family support satisfaction [F (3. 201752) = 9184.986, p < .001; r2 = .12] and F (3.168) = 8.473, p < .001; r2 = .131]. Referring to the correlations between coping strategies with the other study variables, the sample most frequently used emotion-focused coping in the strategies of Self-blaming (r = .290, p<.001); Substance Use (r = .241, p<.01); Instrumental Support (r = .206, p<.01) and Positive Reinterpretation (r =.197, p<.01).

Resumen El estudio fue propuesto debido a la percepción de la escasez de estudios sobre la correlación entre burnout, afrontamiento y apoyo social. Así, el presente estudio tuvo como objetivo verificar la prevalencia de burnout académico y sus posibles correlaciones con estrategias de afrontamiento y apoyo social en estudiantes de cursos de salud. La muestra estuvo constituida por 173 participantes, con edades comprendidas entre 18 y 30 años (M = 23,71; DE = 7,04). Para la recogida de datos se utilizaron: Cuestionario sociodemográfico, Inventario de Burnout de Maslach para estudiantes (MBI-SS), COPE breve (inventario de afrontamiento) y Escala de satisfacción con el apoyo social para estudiantes de enseñanza superior (SSSS). Los resultados revelaron correlaciones entre las dimensiones de agotamiento emocional y cinismo, con la satisfacción de apoyo familiar [F (3. 201752) = 9184,986, p < .001; r2 = .12] y F (3.168) = 8,473, p < .001; r2 = .131]. En cuanto a las correlaciones entre las estrategias de afrontamiento con el resto de las variables del estudio, la muestra utilizó con mayor frecuencia el afrontamiento centrado en la emoción en las estrategias de Autoculpabilización (r = .290, p< .001); Consumo de Sustancias (r = .241, p< .01); Apoyo Instrumental (r = .206, p< .01) y Reinterpretación Positiva (r = .197, p< .01).

Resumo O tumor desmóide é uma neoplasia mesenquimatosa rara de etiologia desconhecida. Apesar de raros, temos assistido a um aumento do número de diagnósticos, ao longo dos últimos anos, de tumores desmóides que se desenvolvem após cirurgia bariátrica. Descrevemos o caso de um homem de 26 anos com queixas de dor abdominal e enfartamento pós-prandial, diagnosticado com uma massa intra-abdominal centrada no mesentério (40 × 21 × 11.7 cm), localmente avançada, 3 anos após ter realizado gastrectomia vertical. Foi efetuada biópsia percutânea, cujo resultado foi sugestivo de tumor mesenquimatoso e o paciente foi referenciado para cirurgia. O doente foi submetido a cirurgia e o tumor foi passível de ressecção cirúrgica R0, apesar de contacto íntimo e vascularização comum com uma ansa jejunal. O exame anatomopatológico revelou células fusiformes a estreladas com atipia ligeira e vasos de parede fina, bem como expressão difusa de beta-catenina (na ausência de expressão de DOG-1, CD117, CD34, S100, desmina e alfa-actina), sendo compatível com o diagnóstico de um tumor desmóide. O doente permanece assintomático e sem evidência de recidiva ao longo de 4 anos de vigilância. Com o aumento do número de cirurgias bariátricas devido ao aumento alarmante da incidência de obesidade e condições relacionadas, espera-se que os diagnósticos de tumores desmóides aumentem nos próximos anos. Assim, tanto gastroenterologistas quanto cirurgiões devem estar alerta para o desenvolvimento desta entidade, de forma a oferecer um diagnóstico e tratamento adequado e atempado.

Abstract Desmoid tumor is a rare mesenchymal neoplasm of un-known etiology. Despite rare, the diagnosis of desmoid tumors after bariatric surgery is increased over the last few years. We report a case of a 26-year-old male with complains of abdominal pain and postprandial fullness, diagnosed with a locally advanced large intra-abdominal mass (40 × 21 × 11.7 cm) centered in the mesentery, developed 3 years after sleeve gastrectomy. Percutaneous biopsy was suggestive of a mesenquimatous tumor and the patient underwent surgery. R0 surgical resection was achieved, despite intimal contact and common vascularization with a jejunal loop. Histopathology examination of the surgical specimen revealed fusiform to stellate cells with mild atypia, thin-walled vessels, and diffuse beta-catenin expression (negative for DOG-1, CD117, CD34, S100, desmin, and alpha-actin). The diagnosis of a desmoid tumor was made. The patient remained asymptomatic, and no recurrence occurred over a 4-year follow-up. With the increasing number of bariatric surgeries, owing to the alarming growing incidence of obesity and related conditions, it is expected that desmoid tumors reports will gradually increase over the next few years. Thus, both gastroenterologists and surgeons should be aware of the potential for desmoid tumor development shortly after surgery, to offer a prompt diagnosis and treatment.

Abstract Introduction. In tomato breeding programs, obtaining new genotypes requires the evaluation of genetic materials in different environments. Objective. To identify tomato genotypes with better adaptability and stability in the province of Los Santos, Panama. Materials and methods. This research was carried out in 5 environments in the province of Los Santos, Panama, during 2022-2023 agricultural cycle. Fifteen genotypes were planted under a randomized complete block design with 3 replications. The data obtained were analyzed by analysis of variance at the level of each environment and combined using the residual maximum likelihood methodology (REML). The genotype-by-environment interaction was estimated by GGE-SReg Biplot analysis. Results and discussion. The analysis revealed a significant interaction between the genotypes and the environments studied, the first 2 axes of the principal components of the interaction explained 70.96% of the total variation. The GGE Biplot through Polygon (which, won, where) allowed the identification of 3 potential environmental groups. The group of mutants T7.RB-50-EN44-13, R1.15-17-18-LV14-2 and R3.10-79-81-LV7-1 were determined as the most outstanding for their stability and performance. The study on the discrimination capacity and representativeness of the environments identified El Ejido and Villa Lourdes as the most discriminating environments while Tres Quebradas was the most representative and the closest to the ideal target environment. Conclusion. The GGE-SReg Biplot analysis allowed an efficient analysis of the genotype-by-environment interaction, which makes it a very efficient tool to identify superior genotypes with good adaptability and stability to the region of interest.

Resumen Introducción. En los programas de fitomejoramiento de tomate, la obtención de nuevos genotipos requiere evaluar los materiales genéticos en diferentes ambientes. Objetivo. Identificar los genotipos de tomate con mejor adaptabilidad y estabilidad en la provincia de Los Santos, Panamá. Materiales y métodos. Esta investigación se desarrolló en 5 ambientes de la provincia de Los Santos, Panamá, en el ciclo agrícola 2022-2023. Se sembraron 15 genotipos bajo un diseño de bloques completos al azar con 3 repeticiones. Los datos obtenidos fueron analizados mediante un análisis de varianza a nivel de cada ambiente y combinado con la metodología de máxima verosimilitud residual (REML). La interacción genotipo por ambiente se estimó a través el análisis Biplot GGE-SReg. Resultados y discusión. Los análisis revelaron una interacción significativa entre los genotipos y los ambientes estudiados, los 2 primeros ejes de los componentes principales de la interacción explicaron el 70,96% de la variación total. El Biplot GGE a través del polígono (cuál, ganó, dónde) permitió identificar 3 grupos ambientales potenciales. Se determinó el grupo de los mutantes T7.RB-50-EN44-13, R1.15-17-18-LV14-2 y R3.10-79-81-LV7-1 como los más sobresalientes por su estabilidad y rendimiento. El estudio sobre la capacidad de discriminación y representatividad de los ambientes identificaron al El Ejido y Villa Lourdes como los entornos más discriminantes mientras que Tres Quebradas fue el más representativo y el más cercano al ambiente ideal objetivo. Conclusión. El análisis Biplot GGE-SReg permitió hacer un análisis eficiente de la interacción genotipo por ambiente, lo que lo convierte en una herramienta muy eficiente para identificar genotipos superiores con una buena adaptabilidad y estabilidad a la región de interés.

Resumo: Introdução: As variáveis determinantes do desempenho físico na maratona de mountain bike cross-country (XCMMTB) ainda são desconhecidas. Objetivo: Nosso objetivo foi verificar as variáveis de controle de treinamento e as respostas fisiológicas em uma corrida oficial de XCMMTB. Material e métodos: Participaram deste estudo 13 atletas (11 homens e 2 mulheres; 33,3 ± 12,7 anos de idade). O estudo foi realizado durante uma corrida oficial de XCM-MTB no Brasil (percurso de 70 km). A frequência cardíaca (FC), altimetria, velocidade, temperatura, ritmo e potência foram obtidos a cada 10 km percorridos através do aplicativo STRAVA. Foi realizada uma análise de regressão linear múltipla para verificar se as variáveis poderiam prever o desempenho físico. Resultados: Os atletas mantiveram uma elevação constante na FC na zona correspondente a 80% da FC máxima. Apresentaram também variação no ritmo (F = 35,82; p < 0,001; d = 0,66) e na potência (F = 7,20; p < 0,001; d = 0,18), mostrando valores mais altos nos últimos 10 km. Apenas o ritmo pode ser considerado um preditor do desempenho físico (β = 0,958; t = 7,30; p < 0,001), especificamente no ponto dos 20 km (F = 10,23; p = 0,004; R2 = 0,82). Conclusão: O estudo concluiu que as variáveis analisadas são confiáveis para o controle de desempenho em uma corrida oficial de XCMMTB. A FC e a potência são variáveis que podem ser usadas para prescrever e controlar o treinamento, pois mudam de acordo com as exigências da corrida. A potência também pode ser usada como um preditor de desempenho, pois é diretamente influenciada pelo terreno.

Abstract: Introduction: The variables determinants of physical performance in cross-country marathon of mountain biking (XCMMTB) are still unknown. Objective: We aimed to verify the training control variables and the physiological responses in an official XCM-MTB race. Material and methods: 13 athletes (11 men and 2 women; 33.3 ± 12.7 years of age) participated in this study. It was conducted during an official XCM-MTB in Brazil (route of 70 km). The heart rate (HR), altimetry, velocity, temperature, pacing, and power were obtained every 10 km travelled by the STRAVA application. Multiple linear regression analysis was performed to verify whether the variables could predict physical performance. Results: The athletes maintained constant HR elevation in the corresponding zone 80% HRmax. They also presented a variation in the pacing (F = 35.82; p < 0.001; d = 0.66) and power (F = 7.20; p < 0.001; d = 0.18) showing higher values in the last 10 km. Only pacing can be considered a predictor of the physical performance (β = 0.958; t = 7.30; p < 0.001), specifically the one at 20 km (F = 10.23; p = 0.004; R2 = 0.82). Conclusion: The study concluded that the analyzed variables are reliable for the performance control in an official XCMMTB race. HR and power are variables that can be used to prescribe and control training, as they change according to the requirements of the race. Power can also be used as a performance predictor as it is directly influenced by terrain.

Resumen: Introducción: Las variables determinantes del rendimiento físico en una maratón de ciclismo de montaña (XCM-MTB) aún son desconocidas. Objetivo: Nuestro objetivo fue verificar las variables fisiológicas y de control del entrenamiento en una carrera oficial de XCM-MTB. Materiales y métodos: 13 atletas (11 hombres y 2 mujeres; 33,3 ± 12,7 años) participaron en este estudio. La investigación se realizó durante un XCM-MTB oficial en Brasil (recorrido de 70 km). La frecuencia cardíaca (FC), la altimetría, la velocidad, la temperatura, el ritmo y la potencia se obtuvieron cada 10 km recorridos por la aplicación STRAVA. Se realizó un análisis múltiple de regresión linear para verificar si las variables podían predecir el rendimiento físico. Resultados: Hubo una elevación constante de la FC correspondiente al 80 % de la FCmax. El ritmo presentó una variación (F = 35,82; p < 0,001; d = 0,66) y potencia (F = 7,20; p < 0,001; d = 0,18) con valores superiores en los últimos 10 km. RESUMEN Introducción: La evaluación de la composición corporal (ECC) mediante medidas antropométricas (MA) se utiliza para monitorizar el estado nutricional y de salud de las personas mayores. Las MA, como variables predictoras, deben ser válidas, prácticas y rápidas, ya que favorecen la adherencia y evitan posibles resistencias y vergüenzas por parte de los evaluados, además de ser mínimamente invasivas. Objetivo: Desarrollar y validar ecuaciones utilizando medidas antropométricas de fácil acceso y mínimamente invasivas para la ECC en mujeres de edad avanzada. Métodos: 100 mujeres (68,1±6,15 años) asignadas aleatoriamente a dos grupos: validación (n=40; 68,1±6,15 años); estimación (n=60; 68,4±6,70 años). Se seleccionó la DXA como medida criterio, y las MA (masa corporal, estatura, pliegues cutáneos, circunferencias) como variables predictoras. Las medias se compararon mediante la prueba t de Student emparejada; las correlaciones se comprobaron mediante la prueba r de Pearson; las ecuaciones mediante Regresión Lineal Múltiple. El nivel de concordancia entre los resultados de los grupos se comprobó mediante la técnica de Bland-Altman. Resultados: Dos ecuaciones desarrolladas y probadas (E3 y E4) cumplieron los criterios de validación, ya que mostraron coeficientes de correlación adecuados (E3: r=0,73; E4: r=0,70), errores constantes bajos (E3: EC= −0,56; E4: EC=-0,90), error total (E3: ET=3,22; E4: ET=3,06) inferior al error estándar de estimación (E3: EPE=3,24; E4: EPE=3,21), lo que indica que no se observaron diferencias estadísticamente significativas entre las dos técnicas de ECC (p>0,05). La técnica de Bland-Altman mostró una buena concordancia entre los resultados de las dos técnicas. Conclusión: Se validaron dos: E3 (%Gdxa= −41,556 + 4,041(IMC) + 0,165(DcCox) − 0,440(CircCox) + 0,269(CircQuad) − 0,053(IMC)²); y E4 (%GdxaE4= 15,329 + 1,044(IMC) −1,055(CircAbra) + 0,282(CircQuad) + 0,164(DcCox) − 0,262(CircCox)). Es de destacar que el reducido número de mediciones se localizaron en zonas del cuerpo de fácil acceso y con poca exposición corporal, lo que minimiza posibles situaciones embarazosas y favorece la adherencia por parte de los ancianos. ABSTRACT Introduction: Body composition assessment (BCA) using anthropometric measurements (AM) is used to monitor the nutritional and health status of the elderly. As predictor variables, MAs must be valid, practical, and quick, as they favor adherence and avoid possible resistance and embarrassment on the part of those being assessed and being minimally invasive. Objective: To develop and validate equations using accessible and minimally invasive anthropometric measurements for BCA in elderly women. Methods: 100 women (68.1±6.15 years) were randomly assigned to two groups: validation (n=40; 68.1±6.15 years); and estimation (n=60; 68.4±6.70 years). DXA was selected as the criterion measure, and MAs (body mass, height, skinfolds, circumferences) were selected as predictor variables. Means were compared using the paired Student's t-test; correlations were verified using Pearson's r-test; equations using Multiple Linear Regression. The level of agreement between the groups’ results was checked using the Bland-Altman technique. Results: Two equations developed and tested (E3 and E4) met the validation criteria as they showed adequate correlation coefficients (E3: r=0.73; E4: r=0.70), low constant errors (E3: EC= −0.56; E4: EC=-0.90), total error (E3: ET=3.22; E4: ET=3.06) lower than the Standard Error of Estimate (E3: EPE=3.24; E4: EPE=3.21), indicating no statistically significant difference between the two BCA techniques observed (p>0.05). The Bland-Altman technique showed good agreement between the results of the two techniques. RESUMO Introdução: A avaliação da composição corporal (ACC) com auxílio das medidas antropométricas (MA) é utilizado no acompanhamento do estado nutricional e de saúde das populações idosas. As MAs como variáveis preditoras, devem ser válidas, práticas e rápidas, pois favorecem a adesão e evitam possíveis resistências e constrangimento das avaliadas, além de minimamente invasivas. Objetivo: Desenvolver e validar equações utilizando medidas antropométricas de fácil acesso e minimamente invasivas, para ACC de idosas. Métodos: 100 mulheres (68,1±6,15 anos) distribuídas aleatoriamente por dois grupos: validação (n=40; 68,1±6,15 anos); estimativa (n=60; 68,4±6,70 anos). Como medida critério selecionou-se a DXA, como variáveis preditoras as MAs (massa corporal, estatura, dobras cutâneas, circunferências). As médias foram comparadas com o teste t de Student pareado; as correlações verificadas com o teste r Pearson; as equações com a Regressão Linear Múltipla. O nível de concordância entre os resultados dos grupos foi verificado com a técnica Bland-Altman. Resultados: Duas equações desenvolvidas e testadas (E3 e E4) atenderam aos critérios de validação, pois, apresentaram coeficientes de correlação adequados (E3: r=0,73; E4: r=0,70), erros constantes baixos (E3: EC= −0,56; E4: EC=-0,90), erro total (E3: ET=3,22; E4: ET=3,06) menores que o Erro Padrão de Estimativa (E3: EPE=3,24; E4: EPE=3,21), indicando não existir diferença estatisticamente significativa entre as duas técnicas de ACC observadas (p>0,05). Resumo Este trabalho propõe modelos para estimar a resistência de prismas ocos e grauteados de blocos de concreto com base na resistência à compressão de seus componentes. Um banco de dados composto por 27.426 resultados de ensaios a compressão de prismas ocos e grauteados, argamassas, grautes e blocos de concreto, agrupados em. Foram propostos diferentes modelos de análise estatística, o melhor modelo foi selecionado para cada faixa de resistência de bloco pré-determinada. As faixas de resistência a compressão do bloco consideradas são Faixa 1 (até 8 MPa), Faixa 2 (de 8 a 18 MPa) e Faixa 3 (acima de 18 MPa). Um fator de ajuste de confiança de 95% foi calculado para cada modelo. Ao comparar os resultados dos modelos com os resultados estimados pelos códigos de projeto, observou-se que, em geral, as estimativas dos modelos de prismas ocos e preenchidos foram semelhantes às da resistência de prismas da ABNT NBR 16868-1 (2020), exceto para a resistência da Faixa 3, na qual a recomendação da norma é mais conservadora, e o modelo proposto com o fator de ajuste intrínseco estimou valores mais baixos do que os propostos pela norma. Em relação às normas internacionais, AS-3700 (2017), TMS 602 (2021) e CSA S304 (2014) apresentaram estimativas mais conservadoras, enquanto o Eurocode 6 (2020) se adaptou melhor aos resultados dos modelos propostos. Abstract This work proposes models to estimate the resistance of hollow and grouted concrete blocks prisms based on the compressive strength of their components. A database composed of 27,426 tests results on hollow and grouted prisms, mortar, grout and concrete blocks was assessed, grouped into 875 samples. Different statistical analysis models were proposed, and the best model was selected for each predetermined block resistance range. The blocks strength r ranges are Range 1 (up to 8 MPa), Range 2 (from 8 to 18 MPa) and Range 3 (above of 18 MPa). An adjustment factor of 95% confidence was calculated for each model. When comparing the results of the models with the results estimated by the design codes, it was observed that, in general, the estimates of the models of hollow and grouted prisms were similar to those of prism resistance of ABNT NBR 16868-1 (2020), except for the Range 3 resistance, in which the code is more conservative, and the proposed model with the intrinsic adjustment factor estimated values lower than those proposed by the norm. RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo retrospectivo foi avaliar o impacto da apresentação clínica da piometra na morbimortalidade das cadelas afetadas. Foram avaliados os registros clínicos de 47 cadelas tratadas cirurgicamente para piometra entre maio e dezembro de 2017. Os dados recolhidos na admissão foram analisados para classificar os animais quanto à apresentação clínica da piometra, presença de critérios da Síndrome da Resposta Inflamatória Sistêmica (SRIS) e disfunções orgânicas - cardiovascular, neurológica, renal e hemostática. Foi registrado o desfecho durante 14 dias. A mortalidade global foi de 13%. Piometra aberta e fechada foram identificadas em 62% (n= 29) e 38% (n= 18) respectivamente. SRIS esteve presente em 44 (94%) cadelas e 27 (57%) tiveram pelo menos uma disfunção orgânica. A disfunção mais prevalente foi a hemostática, seguida da neurológica, cardiovascular e renal. A apresentação clínica da piometra e a presença de SRIS não se correlacionaram entre si ou com presença de disfunção orgânica e mortalidade. No entanto, a quantidade de disfunções orgânicas (r=0.532, P=<0.001) e a presença das disfunções neurológica (r= -0.371; P=0.012) e renal (r=0.303; P=0.041) foram correlacionados com mortalidade. ABSTRACT: This retrospective study evaluated the impact of the clinical presentation of pyometra on the morbidity and mortality of the affected bitches. The medical records of 47 bitches surgically treated for pyometra between May and December 2017 were evaluated. The admission data were analyzed to classify the animals according to the clinical presentation of pyometra, presence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and organic dysfunctions (cardiovascular, neurological, renal, and hemostatic). The outcomes were recorded for up to 14 days. The overall mortality rate was 13%. Open and closed pyometra were identified in 62% (n= 29) and 38% (n= 18) of the cases, respectively. The SIRS was present in 44 (94%) bitches, and 27 (57%) had at least one organ dysfunction. The most prevalent dysfunction was hemostatic, followed by neurological, cardiovascular, and renal dysfunction. The clinical presentation of pyometra and the presence of SIRS did not correlate with each other, or with the presence of organ dysfunction and mortality. However, cumulative organ dysfunction (r=0.532, P=<0.001) and the presence of neurological (r= -0.371; P=0.012) and renal dysfunction (r=0.303; P=0.041) were correlated with mortality. Thus, the identification of organ dysfunction through physical examination and routine laboratory analysis proved to be more effective in identifying and predicting the critically ill patients than the SIRS criteria or clinical presentation of the disease. Resumo Objetivo: Comparar os resultados obtidos através do questionário DN4 com os do DN4i com aplicação via telefônica na identificação de dor neuropática após cirurgia de fraturas. Métodos: Este foi um estudo metodológico com questionário aplicado presencialmente (DN4) e por telefone (DN4i). Foram elegíveis os participantes maiores de 18 anos de idade submetidos à cirurgia de fraturas em um hospital universitário no período de janeiro de 2017 a julho de 2020, que assinaram o Termo de Consentimento Livre e Esclarecido (TCLE) e puderam comparecer ao departamento de Ortopedia e Traumatologia do hospital. A concordância entre a pontuação total obtida na aplicação presencial e por telefone foi avaliada por meio do coeficiente de correlação de Pearson. O coeficiente de Kappa foi utilizado para avaliar a concordância entre os itens individuais dos questionários. Resultados: Dos 53 participantes, 50 apresentaram resultado igual para rastreio de dor neuropática em relação ao DN4 com o DN4i, sendo 41 com escore positivo para dor neuropática e 12 com escore negativo. O coeficiente de correlação de Pearson e o coeficiente Kappa apresentaram r = 0.84. Conclusão: O uso telefônico do DN4i comparado à aplicação presencial do DN4 apresenta forte concordância tanto entre os itens individuais dos questionários quanto entre a pontuação total obtida. Abstract Objective: This study aimed to compare results obtained with the DN4 (in-person interview) and DN4i (telephone interview) questionnaires in identifying neuropathic pain after fracture surgery. Methods: This study was methodological, using questionnaires administered in person (DN4) or via telephone (DN4i). The participants were at least 18 years old, underwent fracture surgery at a university hospital between January 2017 and July 2020, signed the Informed Consent Form (ICF), and could go to the Orthopedics and Traumatology Hospital. Pearson’s correlation coefficient determined the agreement between the total score obtained during in-person and telephone interviews. The kappa coefficient evaluated the agreement between individual questionnaire items. Results: Of the 53 participants, 50 presented the same result for neuropathic pain screening in DN4 and DN4i, including 41 with a positive score for neuropathic pain and 12 with a negative score. The Pearson’s correlation coefficient and kappa coefficient were r = 0.84. The maintenance of adequate fluoride (F) concentration in the public water supply is fundamental for ensuring that the community use of F can reach the maximum benefit for caries control and minimum risk for dental fluorosis. Thus, surveillance systems must use accurate and valid analytical methods to determine F concentration and, according to the literature, give preference to the ion-specific electrode (F- ISE) analysis. Aim The objective of this study was to compare the accuracy of the ISE and SPADNS methods in the determination of the F concentration in the same water sample. Methods Duplicate water samples were taken from 30 sampling sites in the municipality of Maringá, state of Paraná, monthly for 12 months, totaling 276 samples. An aliquot was analyzed by the FOP-UNICAMP Oral Biochemistry laboratory, using the F- ISE method, and the other one, by the SANEPAR laboratory in Maringá/PR, using the SPADNS method. Descriptive analysis and Pearson’s correlation test were applied, with a significant level of p<0.05. Contamination of natural resources by dyes present in industrial effluents causes serious impacts to the environment. Research on efficient methods to remove these contaminants has intensified in recent years. A promising method is adsorption, as it uses effective and low-cost adsorbents, such as biomass. In this study, the adsorptive capacity of carbon chemically activated with phosphoric acid (H3PO4) obtained from monkfish (Enterolobium contortisiliquum) shells was investigated for the removal of methylene blue (MB) dye in aqueous medium. UV-Visible was used to quantify the dye removed from the experimental batch method. Adsorption tests at different temperatures suggest that the Langmuir isotherm model (R2 = 0.9967) and the pseudo-second order kinetic model better fit the experimental data. The negative values of ∆Hads and ∆Gads express that the adsorption dynamics is exothermic and spontaneous. Resumo Objetivou-se associar condições de vida, de saúde e de saúde bucal à qualidade de vida (QLV) de crianças e adolescentes (CA) com Doença Falciforme (DF). Dos 120 usuários elegíveis de um serviço público hematológico, 106 CA entre 6 e 18 anos de idade, e seus cuidadores, responderam questões semiestruturadas sobre condições sociodemográficas, de saúde e saúde bucal. Para a QLV, o instrumento validado PedsQL DF® foi aplicado. Na sequência, realizou-se o exame clínico bucal nas CA segundo diretrizes da OMS e do SB Brasil 2010. A maioria das CA era negra (88%), idade média de 10,4 (±2.9) anos, renda familiar de até dois salários mínimos, para 03 a 05 membros, diagnosticadas na triagem neonatal com anemia falciforme, internadas por crises álgicas, em uso de polifarmácia e com cárie dental (51%). O domínio “Sobre o Impacto da Minha Dor” foi preditivo da QLVDF (R² ajustado =56%; AIC=28.67; p=0,04). Nele, a cárie dental na dentição permanente piorou a QLVDF das CA (OR=0.53; IC95%=0.35-0.78; p<0,05), associando-se ao tipo de escola, posse de carro e do número de membros na família, de complicações da DF e de medicamentos. Abstract The aim was to associate living, health and oral health conditions with the quality of life (QL) of children and adolescents (CA) with sickle cell disease (SCD).
