ABSTRACT Introduction: Beer is the most popular alcoholic beverage in the world and the use of additives during its production can improve its physicochemical and organoleptic properties. Objective: To evaluate the physicochemical and sensory characteristics of craft beer by applying a corn and rice cereal base for malt substitution. Materials and Methods: The cereal base (corn and rice) was purchased in the local market of the Portoviejo canton, province of Manabí and two samples, T1 and T2, were made compared with a control sample in which the physicochemical parameters such as density, pH and alcohol content were determined and the sensory determination of the samples was carried out by 27 untrained panelists. Results and Discussion: Significant differences were found in density and alcoholic content, with sample T2 being the one that obtained the best results in the sensory aspect, being the one preferred by the panelists surveyed. Conclusions: The overall assessment of sample B indicates that it was considered to be of higher quality and preference compared to sample A. These results highlight the importance of innovation in the beer industry, since the inclusion of local ingredients can not only improve the flavor profile of beer, but also contribute to the promotion of local and sustainable products.

RESUMEN Introducción: La cerveza es la bebida alcohólica más popular del mundo y el empleo de aditivos durante su elaboración pueden mejorar las propiedades fisicoquímicas y organolépticas de la misma. Objetivo: Evaluar las características fisicoquímicas y sensoriales de la cerveza artesanal mediante la aplicación de una base cereal de maíz y arroz para la sustitución de la malta. Materiales y Métodos: La base cereal (maíz y arroz) se adquirió en el mercado local del cantón Portoviejo, provincia de Manabí y se realizaron dos muestras T1 y T2 comparadas con una muestra control en la cual, se determinaron los parámetros fisicoquímicos como densidad, pH y contenido alcohólico y la determinación sensorial de las muestras se realizó mediante 27 panelistas no entrenados. Resultados y Discusión: Se encontraron diferencias significativas en la densidad y en el contenido alcohólico siendo la muestra T2 la que obtuvo mejores resultados en el aspecto sensorial siendo la preferida por los panelistas encuestados. Conclusiones: La valoración global de la muestra B, indica que fue considerada de mayor calidad y preferencia en comparación con la muestra A. Estos resultados resaltan la importancia de la innovación en la industria cervecera, ya que la inclusión de ingredientes locales puede no solo mejorar el perfil de sabor de la cerveza, sino también contribuir a la promoción de productos locales y sostenibles.

Abstract Objective: The objective of the study was to determine the efficacy and safety of flexible ureteroscopy (F-URS) for the mana gement of intrarenal or proximal ureteral lithiasis in aged patients. Materials and methods: In this retrospective, multicenter observational study, we collected the anonymized clinical data of patients who underwent F-URS at two institutions in Cali, Colombia between June 2015 and May 2018. The patients were divided into two groups based on age: Group A defined as aged patients (> 65 years) and Group B as patients of non-advanced age (< 65 years). Results: A total of 201 patients were included in this study. The average age for Group A was 75 years (± 4.5) and for Group B was 51 years (± 10). The anes thetic risk classification (American Society of Anesthesiology [ASA]) and comorbidities were significantly higher for Group A with an ASA II and III of 74% versus 50% in Group B. No significant differences were shown in the stone-free rates (SFRs) or significant ureteral injury (Grade III and IV). There was no difference in intraoperative or post-operative complications between both groups. Conclusions: Age > 65 years was not associated with a negative impact on the outcomes of F-URS for the management of intrarenal or proximal ureteral lithiasis in this cohort of patients. F-URS appears as a safe and effec tive procedure and should not be withheld from older patients.

Resumen Objetivo: Determinar la efectividad y seguridad de la ureteroscopia flexible (F-URS) para el manejo de la litiasis ureteral intrarrenal o proximal en pacientes ancianos. Materiales y métodos: En este estudio observacional multicéntrico y retrospectivo, se recogieron los datos clínicos de los pacientes sometidos a F-URS en dos instituciones de Cali, Colombia, entre junio de 2015 y mayo de 2018. Los pacientes se dividieron en dos grupos según la edad. El grupo A se definió como pacientes de edad avanzada (> 65 años) y el grupo B como pacientes de edad no avanzada (< 65 años). Resultados: Un total de 201 pacientes fueron incluidos en este estudio. La edad media para el grupo A fue de 75 años (± 4,5) y para el grupo B fue de 51 años (± 10). La clasificación de riesgo anestésico (ASA) y las comorbilidades fueron significativamente mayores para el grupo A con un ASA II y III del 74% frente al 50% en el grupo B. No se observaron diferencias significativas en las tasas libres de cálculos ni en la lesión ureteral significativa (grado III y IV). No hubo diferencias en las complicaciones anestésicas, intraoperatorias o postoperatorias entre ambos grupos. Conclusiones: La edad > 65 años no se asoció con un impacto negativo en los resultados urológicos ni en la tasa de éxito de la F-URS para el manejo de la litiasis ureteral intrarrenal o proximal en esta cohorte de pacientes. La F-URS es un pro cedimiento seguro y eficaz, y no debe contraindicarse en los pacientes de edad avanzada.

Abstract Background drones for pesticide application have become more popular due to their practicality and reduction in cost. Accessing drone efficacy in herbicide application is needed. Objective This work aimed to determine the efficiency of drones in applying glyphosate and glufosinate to control ryegrass and oilseed radish compared to electrostatic and conventional ground herbicide applications. Methods The experiments were conducted in a factorial arrangement with five replications and repeated in time. Factor A consisted of spraying methods [drone, electrostatic ground spraying (electrostatic), and conventional ground spraying (conventional)], and factor B consisted of eight doses of glyphosate and glufosinate. A CO2 pressurized backpack was equipped with XR TeeJet® 11001VS spray nozzles for electrostatic and conventional applications, adjusted to a spray volume of 100 L ha-1. The drone, Pelicano® 2022 model (Skydrones), was equipped with the same spray nozzles but was regulated to a spray volume of 10 L ha-1. Results: The results demonstrated that glyphosate application via drones provided superior control of ryegrass and oilseed radish compared to terrestrial methods, whereas glufosinate’s effectiveness was comparable to that of ground-based applications. Resumen Objetivo: Determinar la eficacia de la procalcitonina (PCT) y la proteína C reactiva (PCR) séricas en el diagnóstico de fuga anastomótica (FA) en los pacientes sometidos a cirugía colorrectal. Método: Prueba diagnóstica en un hospital de tercer nivel. Se excluyeron los pacientes que no tuvieron mediciones preoperatorias de PCT y PCR. Se eliminaron los que cursaron con infección posoperatoria no relacionada con FA. Las medidas de eficacia diagnóstica fueron sensibilidad (S), especificidad (E), valores predictivos positivo (VPP) y negativo (VPN), razones de verosimilitud positiva (RV+) y negativa (RV−), y área bajo la curva característica operativa del receptor (AUROC). Resultados: Se analizaron 39 pacientes, de los cuales 6 (15.4%) tuvieron FA. La PCT y la PCR aumentaron al segundo día posoperatorio solo en los pacientes con FA. Los puntos de corte al día 2 fueron 1.55 ng/ml para PCT y 11.25 mg/l para PCR. La prueba más eficaz fue la PCR al día 2 (AUROC: 1.00; S: 100%; E: 96.7%; VPP: 85.7%; VPN: 100%; RV+: 33.0). Conclusiones: La PCR en el segundo día posoperatorio fue la prueba más eficaz en el diagnóstico temprano de FA en los pacientes sometidos a cirugía colorrectal, con un punto de corte inferior a lo reportado en la literatura internacional.

Abstract Objective: To determine the efficacy of serum procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) in the early diagnosis of anastomotic leak (AL) in patients undergoing colorectal surgery. Method: Diagnostic test in a tertiary care hospital. Patients who did not have preoperative measurements of PCT and CRP were excluded. Those with postoperative infection not related to AL were eliminated. The diagnostic efficacy measures were sensitivity (Sn), specificity (Sp), positive (PPV) and negative (NPV) predictive values, positive (LR+) and negative (LR−) likelihood ratios, and area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUROC). Results: Thirty-nine patients were analyzed; six had AL (15.4%). PCT and CRP increased on the second postoperative day, only in patients with AL. The cut-off points at the second postoperative day were 1.55 ng/mL for PCT and 11.25 mg/L for CRP. The most efficacious test was PCR at second postoperative day (AUROC: 1.00; Sn: 100%; Sp: 96.7%; PPV: 85.7%; NPV: 100%; LR+: 33.0). Conclusions: CRP at second postoperative day was the most effective test in the early diagnosis of AL in patients undergoing colorectal surgery, with a cut-off point lower than that reported in the international literature.

Resumen Los minerales son necesarios en la dieta de los animales para su mantenimiento, desarrollo y reproducción. El objetivo fue determinar el contenido de minerales en arbustos que consumen las cabras en una zona árida en tres sistemas de producción, durante las estaciones húmeda y seca. Las hojas, vainas tallos o flores y un suplemento se muestrearon y se determinó en 34 arbustos Ca, Mg, K, Na, P, N, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B y Cl. Los arbustos en los sistemas de producción mostraron suficiente K, Ca, K, Mg, Na, B, Cl y N para las necesidades de las cabras; sin embargo, el contenido de P fue bajo. El contenido de Zn, Cu, Fe y Mn fue menor en todos los arbustos. Los resultados sugieren que, en la zona de estudio es posible utilizar forrajes no leguminosos en la dieta para mejorar su valor nutricional, debido a su contenido mayor en minerales. El sistema de producción semi-intensivo mostró que, el 58% de los minerales fue mayor en este sistema, considerado como el mejor. El contenido mineral en L. brevipes, T. lobaeformis y A. barclayana en el semi-intensivo fueron adecuados para las cabras, mientras que en el extensivo el contenido mineral fue de buena calidad nutricional con S. thurberi y C. gayana para el sistema intensivo. Los arbustos mostraron diferencias entre los macrominerales y la cantidad/calidad nutricional de estos para las cabras difiere en función del sistema de producción, la estación y los tipos de arbustos.

Abstract Minerals are needed in the diet of animals for maintenance, development, and reproduction. The aim was to determine mineral content of shrubs consumed by goats in an arid area from three production systems, during wet and dry seasons. The leaves, pods, stems, or flowers of 34 shrubs and one supplement were sampled manually and analyzed Ca, Mg, K, Na, P, N, Fe, Mn, Zn, Cu, B, and Cl. The shrubs showed enough K Ca, K, Mg, Na, B, Cl and N for goat requirements for all production systems; however, P was lower. The Zn, Cu, Fe, and Mn contents were lower in all shrubs. The results suggest that in the study area more non-legumes could be used in the goat diet to enhance nutritional value because of their higher mineral content. Considering the status of mineral content, 58% of all minerals had higher content in the semi-intensive production system, and possibly, it is the best production system. Adequate values of mineral content were found in L. brevipes, T. lobaeformis and A. barclayana in the semi-intensive system, while in the extensive system the mineral content was of good nutritional quality with S. thurberi and C. gayana for the intensive system. The 35 shrubs showed differences among macrominerals and the nutritional quantity/quality of these minerals for goats varied depending on production system, season, and types of shrubs.

Resumen En este trabajo se proporciona nueva información sobre la distribución geográfica de cinco especies de arañas de las familias Corinnidae, Filistatidae, Gnaphosidae y Salticidae. Específicamente, se registran por primera vez a Attinella dorsata (Banks, 1895) (Salticidae), Filistatinellahermosa Magalhaes & Ramírez, 2017 (Filistatidae) y Micariajeanae Gertsch, 1942 (Gnaphosidae) para Baja California, mientras que Creugas gulosus Thorell, 1878 (Corinnidae) y Micaria pasadena Platnick & Shadab, 1988 (Gnaphosidae) son registrados para Baja California Sur. Cabe resaltar que los registros de A. dorsata y F. hermosa son también los primeros para México.

Abstract In this work, we provide novel geographic information about five species of spiders belonging to the families Corinnidae, Filistatidae, Gnaphosidae, and Salticidae We record for the first time Attinelladorsata (Banks, 1895) (Salticidae), Filistatinella hermosa Magalhaes & Ramírez, 2017 (Filistatidae), and Micariajeanae Gertsch, 1942 (Gnaphosidae) in the state of Baja California. Furthermore, Creugas gulosus Thorell, 1878 (Corinnidae), and Micaria pasadena Platnick & Shadab, 1988 (Gnaphosidae) are recorded in Baja California Sur. Both, A. dorsata y F. hermosawere not previously known from Mexico.

Resumen Antecedentes: En el mundo, el carcinoma de próstata constituye la segunda causa de cáncer y la quinta causa de muerte por cáncer en hombres. Objetivo: Conocer el perfil inmunohistoquímico de la neoplasia intraepitelial prostática de alto grado y del adenocarcinoma acinar de próstata. Material y métodos: Estudio observacional, analítico, transversal y retrospectivo de especímenes obtenidos por biopsia con aguja cortante y resección de próstata debido a diagnóstico de adenocarcinoma acinar de próstata y neoplasia intraepitelial de alto grado, entre enero de 2015 y diciembre de 2020. Se realizaron microarreglos tisulares y, posteriormente, estudios de inmunohistoquímica para BCL2, EGFR, p53, Her2/neu y Ki67. Se realizó estadística descriptiva para analizar los factores clinicopatológicos; las variables cualitativas se compararon con prueba exacta de Fisher. Resultados: Se estudiaron 23 pacientes, ocho (34 %) con invasión angiolinfática, 14 (60.8 %) con invasión perineural, cinco (21.2 %) con prostatitis y cuatro (17.3 %) con hiperplasia fibroadenomatosa. Se observó expresión de HER2/neu (p = 0.1023), p53 (p = 1) y BCL2 (p = 0.4136). Conclusión: Se identificó mayor expresión de HER2/neu en la neoplasia intraepitelial prostática de alto grado y el adenocarcinoma acinar de próstata.

Abstract Background: Prostate carcinoma is the second leading cause of cancer and the fifth cause of cancer death in men worldwide. Objective: To know high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and prostate acinar adenocarcinoma immunohistochemical profiles. Material and methods: Observational, analytical, cross-sectional, retrospective study of specimens obtained by cutting needle biopsy and prostate resection from subjects diagnosed with acinar adenocarcinoma of the prostate and high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia between January 2015 and December 2020. Tissue microarrays were performed and, subsequently, immunohistochemical studies for BCL2, EGFR, p53, Her2/neu and Ki67. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze clinicopathological factors. Qualitative variables were compared with Fisher's exact test. Results: Twenty-three patients were studied; eight (34%) with angiolymphatic invasion, 14 (60.8%) with perineural invasion, five (21.2%) with prostatitis, and four (17.3%) with fibroadenomatous hyperplasia. HER2/neu (p = 0.1023), p53 (p = 1) and BCL2 expression (p = 0.4136) was observed. Conclusion: HER2/neu increased expression was identified in high-grade prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia and acinar adenocarcinoma of the prostate.

Resumen Objetivo. Comparar la evolución de los pacientes hospitalizados infectados por SARS-CoV-2 que recibieron tratamiento a base de corticoesteroides frente a los pacientes que recibieron la terapia estándar. Método. Estudio de tipo retrospectivo, observacional y analítico. Se recolectaron los expedientes clínicos de las diferentes unidades de terapia intensiva y se obtuvieron datos de los pacientes confirmados de COVID-19, mayores de 18 años, que estuvieron hospitalizados. Se dividió la población en dos grupos: pacientes que recibieron tratamiento con corticoesteroides y pacientes que recibieron terapia estándar. Resultados. De un total de 1603 pacientes ingresados a hospitalización, 984 (62.9%) fallecieron. El resultado principal fue la identificación mediante razón de momios (odds ratio [OR]: 4.68; intervalo de confianza del 95% [IC95%]: 3.75-5.83; p = 0.001) como riesgo para defunción con uso de esteroides sistémicos, así como con uso de ventilación mecánica invasiva (OR: 2.26; IC95%: 1.80-2.82; p < 0.001). El sexo masculino fue el más afectado, con 1051 (65.6%) pacientes. La media de edad fue de 56 años (± 14). Conclusiones. El uso de corticoesteroides se asoció con mal pronóstico en los pacientes hospitalizados por COVID-19, en comparación con los que recibieron la terapia estándar.

Abstract Objective. To compare the evolution of hospitalized patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 who received corticosteroid-based treatment versus patients who received standard therapy. Method. Retrospective, observational, and analytical study. Clinical records were collected from the different intensive care units, and data were obtained from confirmed COVID-19 patients over 18 years of age who were hospitalized. The population was divided into two groups: patients who received corticosteroid treatment, and those who received standard therapy. Results. A total of 1603 patients were admitted to hospital, and of these 984 (62.9%) were discharged due to death. The main result was the identification by odds ratio (OR: 4.68; 95% confidence interval [95% CI]: 3.75-5.83; p = 0.001) as risk for death to the use of systemic steroids, as well as the use of invasive mechanical ventilation (OR: 2.26; 95% CI: 1.80-2.82; p < 0.001). The male gender was the most affected with 1051 (65.6%) patients. Mean age was 56 years (± 14). Conclusions. Corticosteroid use was associated with poor prognosis in patients hospitalized for COVID-19 compared to those receiving standard therapy.

Resumen Introducción: Aún es controversial si la deficiencia de vitamina B12 se asocia a alteraciones cognitivas. Objetivo: Conocer la asociación entre los niveles séricos de vitamina B12 y el desempeño cognitivo. Métodos: Se incluyeron 241 personas ≥ 60 años con medición de niveles séricos de vitamina B12. Se realizó evaluación física y cognitiva y se formaron tres grupos: cognición normal (CN), deterioro cognitivo leve (DCL) y demencia. Los niveles de vitamina B12 se clasificaron en suficiencia (> 400 pg/mL), deficiencia subclínica (201-400 pg/mL) y deficiencia absoluta (≤ 200 pg/mL). Se realizó análisis de regresión lineal multivariado para evaluar la asociación entre función cognitiva y niveles de vitamina B12 después de controlar las variables confusoras. Resultados: La media de edad fue 81.4 ± 8.0 años; 68 % fue del sexo femenino; 17.8 y 39.8 % presentaron deficiencia absoluta y subclínica de vitamina B12; 80 individuos (33 %) cumplieron los criterios de DCL y 70 (29 %), de demencia. Después de ajustar por edad, sexo y escolaridad, los sujetos con DCL y demencia tuvieron niveles más bajos de vitamina B12 comparados con aquellos con CN (p = 0.019). Conclusiones: Se observó asociación estadísticamente significativa entre el desempeño cognitivo global y los niveles bajos de vitamina B12.

Abstract Introduction: Whether vitamin B12 deficiency is associated with cognitive impairment remains controversial. Objective: To determine the association between vitamin B12 serum levels and cognitive performance. Methods: Two-hundred and forty-one adults aged ≥ 60 years who had serum vitamin B12 serum levels measurement were included. Physical and cognitive evaluation was carried out, and three groups were formed: normal cognition (NC), mild cognitive impairment (MCI) and dementia. Vitamin B12 levels were classified as sufficiency (> 400 pg/mL), subclinical deficiency (201-400 pg/mL), and absolute deficiency (≤ 200 pg/mL). Multivariate linear regression analysis was used to evaluate the association between cognitive function and vitamin B12 levels after controlling for confounding variables. Results: Mean age was 81.4 ± 8.0 years; 68% were females; 17.8 % and 39.8% had absolute and subclinical vitamin B12 deficiency, respectively; 80 individuals (33%) met the criteria for MCI, and 70 (29%), for dementia. Those with MCI and dementia had lower vitamin B12 levels in comparison with those with NC after adjusting for age, gender and educational level (p = 0.019). Conclusions: A statistically significant association was observed between global cognitive performance and levels of vitamin B12.

Abstract Objectives The present study aimed to evaluate the measurement invariance of a general measure of the perception of governmental responses to COVID-|19 (COVID-SCORE-10) in the general population of 13 Latin American countries. Methods A total of 5780 individuals from 13 Latin American and Caribbean countries selected by non-probabilistic snowball sampling participated. A confirmatory factor analysis was performed and the alignment method was used to evaluate invariance. Additionally, a graded response model was used for the assessment of item characteristics. Results The results indicate that there is approximate measurement invariance of the COVID-SCORE-10 among the participating countries. Furthermore, IRT results suggest that the COVID-SCORE-10 measures with good psychometric ability a broad spectrum of the construct assessed, especially around average levels. Comparison of COVID-SCORE-10 scores indicated that participants from Cuba, Uruguay and El Salvador had the most positive perceptions of government actions to address the pandemic. Thus, the underlying construct of perception of government actions was equivalent in all countries. Conclusion The results show the importance of initially establishing the fundamental measurement properties and MI before inferring the cross-cultural universality of the construct to be measured. Resumen México es una región megadiversa con una historia geológica compleja, pero se desconoce el nivel de influencia de las barreras geográficas sobre las distribuciones de los peces dulceacuícolas. Este estudio examina las relaciones filogenéticas, a escala geográfica pequeña, de las especies del grupo de aletas cortas del subgénero Mollienesia (género Poecilia), un grupo de peces vivíparos ampliamente distribuidos en México. Se analizaron muestras de seis especies en más de 50 localidades, utilizando métodos filogenéticos y de redes de haplotipos, para evaluar la diversidad genética y precisar las distribuciones de especies en este grupo. Los resultados indican que las especies mexicanas se han diversificado a partir de múltiples invasiones independientes desde Mesoamérica. Se detectó estructura filogenética débil en dos especies distribuidas al norte del Eje Neovolcánico y una especie que atraviesa el Eje Neovolcánico, posiblemente debido a la ausencia de barreras fisiográficas, colonización reciente y altas tasas de dispersión entre regiones. En contraste, se detectaron niveles altos de estructura filogenética en tres especies distribuidas del Eje Neovolcánico, lo que refleja una presencia más prolongada en el área y la existencia de múltiples barreras fisiográficas que aislaron a las poblaciones. Abstract Mexico is a megadiverse region with a complex geological history, but it remains unclear to what extent the distribution of freshwater fish has been influenced by geographic barriers. This study examines the population level genetic divergence and phylogenetic relationships of species in the shortfin group of the subgenus Mollienesia (genus Poecilia), a group of live-bearing fishes that are widely distributed across Mexico, with sampling at a small geographic scale. Samples from over 50 locations were analyzed for six species by using phylogenetic and haplotype network approaches to assess genetic diversity across geographic ranges and to refine the distributions of species in this group. The results indicate that Mexican species have diversified following multiple, independent invasions from Middle America. Two species found north of the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt (TMVB) and one transversal species exhibited weak phylogenetic structure, likely due to the lack of physiographic barriers, recent colonization, and high dispersal rates among regions. In contrast, three species found south of the TMVB exhibited strong phylogenetic structure, reflecting a longer presence in the area and multiple physiographic barriers that isolated populations. RESUMEN Se presenta la evolución histórica de la certificación de especialistas en medicina familiar en México, a 35 años de su fundación. Asimismo, se abordan brevemente los procesos de evaluación de los sustentantes y la importancia de mantener la «vigencia de la certificación». Se realiza el benchmarking de la certificación en otros países con procesos de certificación bien definidos y consolidados. Al final, se presentan los retos más inmediatos de la certificación en México para esta especialidad.

ABSTRACT: The historical evolution of the Certification of Specialists in Family Medicine in Mexico is presented, 35 years after its foundation. Likewise, the evaluation processes of the applicants and the importance of maintaining the “Certification Validity” are briefly addressed. Certification benchmarking is carried out in other countries with well-defined and consolidated certification processes. At the end, the most immediate challenges of the Certification in Mexico for this specialty are presented.

Abstract Background: Premature loss of deciduous teeth is the exfoliation or extraction before physiological replacement with < 50% or < 75% of the root of the substitute tooth formed or if there is > 1 mm of alveolar bone covering the permanent successor tooth organ. This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of premature tooth loss in children and identify associated factors in a health center in Acapulco, Guerrero. Methods: We conducted a cross-sectional study in which we collected information from 109 clinical records of children examined from January 2019 to August 2021. Sociodemographic data of the children and parents were collected: socioeconomic level, non-pathological personal history, and the history of premature deciduous tooth loss. Multivariate analysis to identify factors associated with premature deciduous tooth loss was performed with CIETmap statistical software. Odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) were calculated to estimate the strength of the association. Results: The prevalence of premature loss of primary teeth was 40% (43/109). The leading cause was caries (84%, 36/43). The tooth organ with the highest loss occurrence was the lower right second molar (33%, 14/43). Gender was identified as an associated factor, with males having a higher risk of loss (ORa = 2.97; CI95% = 1.33-6.65). Conclusions: Our results were similar to those reported in other studies. Strategies aimed at health promotion directed at parents and children should be reinforced.

Resumen Introducción: Se considera como pérdida prematura de dientes deciduos a la exfoliación o extracción antes del recambio fisiológico con < 50% o < 75% de la raíz del diente sustituto formado, o si existe > 1 mm de hueso alveolar cubriendo al órgano dentario sucesor permanente. El objetivo de este trabajo fue estimar la prevalencia de pérdida prematura dental en niños e identificar factores asociados en un centro de salud de Acapulco, Guerrero. Métodos: Se llevó a cabo un estudio transversal en el que se recopiló información de 109 expedientes clínicos de niños atendidos de enero de 2019 a agosto de 2021. Se recolectaron datos sociodemográficos de los niños y los padres: nivel socioeconómico, antecedentes personales no patológicos y el antecedente de la pérdida prematura del diente deciduo. Se realizó un análisis multivariado para identificar factores asociados con la pérdida prematura de dientes deciduos con el software estadístico CIETmap. Se calcularon la razón de momios (OR) y el intervalo de confianza (IC) del 95% para estimar el grado de la asociación. Resultados: La prevalencia de pérdida prematura de dientes primarios fue del 40% (43/109). La principal causa fue por caries (84%, 36/43). El órgano dentario con más ocurrencia de pérdida fue el segundo molar inferior derecho (33%, 14/43). Se identificó el sexo como factor asociado, y se observó que el sexo masculino presenta mayor riesgo de pérdida (ORa = 2.97; IC95% = 1.33-6.65). Conclusiones: Nuestros resultados fueron similares a lo reportado en otros estudios. Deben reforzarse las estrategias de promoción de la salud dirigidas a los padres de familia y a sus hijos.

ABSTRACT Background: Prognostic factors in previously healthy young patients with COVID-19 remained understudied. Objective: The objective of the study was to identify factors associated with in-hospital death or need for invasive mechanical ventilation (IMV) in young (aged ≤ 65 years) and previously healthy patients with COVID-19. Methods: We conducted a prospective cohort study that included patients admitted with COVID-19. The primary outcome was in-hospital death/need for IMV. Secondary outcomes included need for IMV during follow-up, days on IMV, length of stay (LOS), hospital-acquired pneumonia/ventilator-associated pneumonia (HAP/VAP), and pulmonary embolism (PE). Bivariate and multivariate analyses were performed. Results: Among 92 patients, primary outcome occurred in 16 (17%), death in 12 (13%), need for IMV in 16 (17%), HAP/VAP in 7 (8%), and PE in 2 (2%). Median LOS and IMV duration were 7 and 12 days, respectively. Independent associations were found between the primary outcome and male sex (Adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 7.1, 95%CI 1.1-46.0, p < 0.05), D-dimer levels > 1000ng/mL (aOR 9.0, 95%CI 1.6-49.1, p < 0.05), and RT-PCR Ct-value ≤ 24 on initial swab samples (aOR 14.3, 95%CI 2.0-101.5, p < 0.01). Conclusions: In young and non-comorbid COVID-19 patients, male sex, higher levels of D-dimer, and low SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Ct-value on an initial nasopharyngeal swab were independently associated with increased in-hospital mortality or need for IMV.

ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to evaluate the phytoremediation potential of eight native plants sown with the support of amendments, on the mine tailings from the La Prieta mine in Parral, Chihuahua, Mexico, to phytostabilize heavy metals and metalloid-As in their roots. The concentration of the elements, in the aerial part, root, and soil, was determined following the criterial established by the NOM-147-SEMARNAT/SSA1-2004 standard. The species S. macrostachya and S. aireoides showed the highest copper concentrations with values between 150 and 400 mg/kg, whereas in the rest of the species ranged between 50 and 380 mg/kg. The species S. aireoides, A. Canescens, S. Daysilirium, and S. Macrostachia presented phytostabilization potential by showing Translocation Factor values <0.5, for As, Cu, Pb, and Zn. The species were adapted to the in situ experiment, showing tolerance to heavy metals, metalloid, and potential for phytostabilization.

RESUMEN El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar el potencial fitorremediador de ocho plantas nativas sembradas con apoyo de enmiendas, sobre el jal de la mina La Prieta en Hidalgo del Parral, Chihuahua, México, para fitoestabilizar los metales pesados y metaloide-As en sus raíces. La concentración de los elementos, en la parte aérea, raíz y suelo, se determinó siguiendo los criterios establecidos por la Norma NOM-147-SEMARNAT/SSA1-2004. Las especies S. macrostachya y S. aireoides mostraron las mayores concentraciones de cobre con valores entre 150 y 400 mg/kg, mientras que las demás especies oscilaron con valores entre 50 y 380 mg/kg. Las especies S. aireoides, A. Canescens, S. Daysilirium y S. Macrostachia presentaron potencial de fitorremediación al mostrar valores de Factor Traslocación <0.5 para As, Cu, Pb y Zn. Las especies antes mencionadas se adaptaron al experimento in situ, mostrando tolerancia a los metales pesados, metaloide y potencial de fitoestabilización.
