Abstract The present study aimed to determine the genetic variants of PAX9, MSX1, and AXIN2 in Mayan probands with non-syndromic dental agenesis (NSDA) from Yucatan, Mexico. We sequenced DNA of specific exons of the PAX9, MSX1, and AXIN2 genes by using the Sanger method in seven Mayan probands with familial NSDA attending orthodontic clinics in Merida, Yucatan, Mexico. We bioinformatically analyzed four genomes of unaffected people with Mayan ancestry for comparative purposes. Two Mayan probands had oligodontia (14 or 16 missing teeth) and five had hypodontia (1-2 missing teeth). We found the following genetic variants: rs8670 in MSX1; rs12881240 and rs4904210 in PAX9; and rs1060502133, rs1060502139, rs147716924, rs1330822418, rs769741903, rs9915936, rs1133683, and rs1234437759 in AXIN2. The genetic variants in PAX9, MSX1, and AXIN2 in Mayan probands with familial NSDA were benign and have previously been reported. In conclusion, the AXIN2 gene exhibited the highest number of known variants. Because some variants were also present in the genomes of unaffected people, additional functional and epidemiological studies are required to address their clinical significance and associated phenotypes.

Abstract Introduction: Nursing staffing in adult intensive care has been at a ratio of two patients per nurse or one patient for one nurse. Currently, patients require complex and specialized care that provides safety and reduces Healthcare-Associated Infections. Objective: Evidencing the importance of equipping nursing personnel according to the severity of the patient compared to the nurse-patient ratio in order to reduce Healthcare-Associated Infections in patients in the adult intensive care unit. Methodology: This is a systematic review based on the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses, conducted from September 2021 to March 2022. The databases PubMed, ScienceDirect, Epistemonikos and CUIDEN were used, and the following terms were utilized, i.e., nursing personnel, patient severity, nurse-patient ratio, healthcare-associated infections, and the Boolean operators AND, OR, and WITH. The sample consisted of 8 studies that were assessed using the Critical Reading Cards (FLC 3.0) and graded according to the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence. Results: Staffing according to patient severity compared to the nurse-patient indicator reduced healthcare-associated infections, mortality, sepsis occurrence, and medication errors. The impact on patients and nursing personnel showed improved quality of care and reduced burnout and work stress, which benefited the patient. Conclusion: It is important to provide nursing personnel according to the severity of the patient and with personnel having an academic level of at least a bachelor's degree in order to improve the quality of care and reduce healthcare-associated infections.

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. Abstract This study aimed to investigate the feasibility of using ground soybean hulls and white oat grains to finish steers reared exclusively on concentrated feed. We used 33 steers, predominantly of Charolais or Nellore breeds, and randomly assigned the animals to the treatments, blocking them according to genetic predominance. The diets were isonitrogenous, and the treatments consisted of soybean hulls, white oats, and mix these in equal parts, supplemented with calcitic limestone and a protein nucleus. The study measured variables related to the dry matter intake (DMI) and bromatological fractions of diets, as well as performance of steers. No significant differences were observed between treatments in terms of DMI during the experimental period. Although DMI intake was similar across treatments, steers receiving the mixed diet exhibited significantly higher weight gain than those on the soybean hull diet (1.300 vs. 0.972 kg day-1). However, both these treatments showed comparable results to the white oat grain diet (1.203 kg day-1), achieving a similar final weight (387.22 kg). Implementing 100% concentrate diets is technically feasible for steers fed with white oat grain and the mixture of soybean hull and white oat grain, which also demonstrated superior performance compared to the soybean hull treatment. feed 3 breeds predominance isonitrogenous oats parts nucleus (DMI period 1.300 1300 1 300 (1.30 vs 0972 0 972 0.97 day1. day1 day . day-1) However 1.203 1203 203 (1.20 day1, , 387.22 38722 387 22 (387.2 kg. kg) 100 treatment 1.30 130 30 (1.3 097 97 0.9 day-1 1.20 120 20 (1.2 387.2 3872 38 2 (387. 10 1.3 13 (1. 09 9 0. day- 1.2 12 387. Abstract The polymer transition temperature is a crucial parameter in the industry for knowing raw materials before starting the manufacturing process. The current work reports a novel low-cost prototype instrument to measure the transition temperature with reliable accuracy. The equipment was built using commercial load cells composed of strain gauges in combination with an Arduino® microcontroller. The prototype measurement quality was validated by measuring the transition temperatures of most commercial polymers. The obtained values were compared with values obtained by conventional thermal analysis known as differential scanning calorimetric and thermo-mechanical analysis (DSC and TMA), which results in identical values. process lowcost low cost accuracy Arduino microcontroller polymers thermomechanical thermo mechanical DSC TMA, TMA , TMA)

ABSTRACT The gestation biometrics of the alpaca (Vicugna pacos) are described. The abdominal diameter was determined monthly from 10 pregnant alpacas. In addition, uterus of 49 pregnant alpacas were collected from the Maranganí herd (Cusco, Peru) and classified by gestational age known as mating date (every 30 days from day 30 to 330 [± 15 days]). Gravid uteri were weighed and measured, allantoic and amniotic fluid was removed and measured, and fetal weight and length were determined. The results indicate a slight increase in abdominal diameter until the end of gestation, the fetus gradually increases its weight as gestation progresses, being greater from the sixth month onwards. The total length of the fetus increases from month nine. The amniotic fluid represents less than 18% of the volume of the allantoic fluid, both fluids have low volumes. An increase in fluids could be observed towards month fivem a decrease until month nine, and a subsequent increase until the delivery date.

ABSTRACT Knowledge of embryonic and foetal development is extremely important in order to establish normal development parameters, the health of the foetus, and to identify critical periods in the growth curve. One of these processes is the pattern of ossification. The present study describes the ossification pattern in alpaca embryos and foetuses using radiology and diaphanization techniques. Seventeen pregnant female alpacas were used for the collection of embryos and foetuses of various ages (32, 45, 60, 90, 118, 150, 165, 190, 220 and 280 days). The specimens were weighed, measured and radiographed, and later fixed in 10% buffered formalin to be subjected to the diaphanization process in potassium hydroxide and finally stained with Alizarin Red. The description of the specimens indicates that in embryos of 32 and 45 days there are no mineralized structures; however, it can be seen radiopaque structures and signs of mineralization at 60 days, indicating that ossification would be starting between 45 and 60 days of gestation. The bones of the skull and the rib cage are the first to ossify. Ossification occurs consecutively in the vertebral column, thoracic and pelvic limbs, reaching an advanced state of ossification in the last third of gestation.

Abstract: We present a case of a 28-year-old woman currently in her first pregnancy, normal evolution, who attended delivery care, a cesarean section was performed due to lack of progression. During the perioperative period, she developed uterine atony and bleeding of 2,000 mL, for which she underwent a subtotal abdominal hysterectomy, selective embolization of the pelvic vessels, massive transfusion, and pelvic packing. She evolved with vasoplegia and hemodynamic profile compatible with cardiogenic shock, transthoracic echocardiogram exposes severe systolic dysfunction, LVEF 18%, normal contractility in the basal thirds of the lateral wall, the rest of the segments with severe hypokinesia, NT-pro BNP 9,226 pg/mL, high-sensitivity troponin 490 pg/mL, electrocardiogram whit sinus tachycardia with no evidence of injury, the diagnosis of Takotsubo (stress cardiomyopathy) was established. Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) V-A and intra-aortic balloon counterpulsation were placed. Acute kidney injury developed, and fluid overload, for which renal replacement therapy was started. ECMO therapy was maintained for nine days, and she was discharged home after 18 days. ECMO is an innovative therapeutic strategy for hemodynamic support of cardiogenic shock, including stress cardiomyopathy, and this case illustrates its potential utility in the postpartum period.
SUMMARY The use of Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) has optimized the care of the affected patients. Several international working groups have tried to clarify and standardize the global use of MRI but, on many occasions, data are extrapolated from other regions, do not contemplate local realities or are difficult to implement. Objective: To reach a consensus on aspects related to the use of MRI in the diagnosis and follow-up of patients with MS in Peru. Material and Methods: A group of Peruvian experts (neurologists and radiologists) worked on the elaboration of the consensus using a remote survey round methodology. Results: The recommendations, established on the basis of published evidence and on the experts’ criteria, focused on the role of both, the conventional MRI techniques and the measurement of brain atrophy in MS patients both at the time of diagnosis and during the follow-up period Conclusions: The consensual recommendations could potentially assist in the standardization and optimization of the care and follow-up of patients with MS in our country.

Abstract Faced with the challenges of Competence-Based Education, this Delphi consensus from the Education Division of the Colombian Association of Surgery reports on the minimum professional competencies expected of the surgeon who graduated from the twenty residency programs in General Surgery in Colombia. A total of 105 professors from the training programs evaluated three areas of professional competence: 1) general professional attributes of the resident during their training, 2) practical skills (surgical procedures) that residents must perform at the end of their training, and 3) Activities Trusted Professionals (APC) that residents must run unsupervised at the end of their training. The results report a high level of consensus in 100% general professional attributes and APC, and 75% in different surgical procedures. The consensus opens the door for the development of a national specialty curriculum and has implications for educational practice and future research.
