Resumo Para a vegetação de Caatinga ainda não foi estabelecido de forma contundente quais são as estratégias adaptativas que melhor definem os grupos funcionais das lenhosas e também quais são as síndromes que emergem das relações entre os traços funcionais para alcançar o sucesso em uma região semiárida tropical. Com o objetivo de preencher algumas dessas lacunas, analisamos um conjunto específico de características que compõem o esquema LHS da estratégia ecológica vegetal (altura-folha-semente). O experimento foi realizado entre dezembro de 2017 e novembro de 2018 em áreas de Caatinga localizadas no município de Barra de Santana, PB, região semiárida do Brasil. Utilizando análises de cluster, componentes principais (PCA) e correlação de Pearson, encontramos relações significativas entre SLA e SM, e HE e WD. O SLA foi o principal preditor da estratégia da planta na Caatinga. De acordo com esta característica, identificamos dois grupos funcionais: espécies com baixa SLA e espécies com alta SLA. Também reconhecemos diferenças entre espécies decíduas e perenes com base na mesma característica. Abstract For the Caatinga vegetation, it has not yet been definitively established which adaptive strategies best define the functional groups of woody plants and which syndromes emerge from the relationships between functional traits to achieve success in a semi-arid tropical region. To fill some of these gaps, we analyzed a specific set of characteristics that make up the LHS scheme of the plant ecological strategy (leaf-heigh-seed). The LHS scheme captures the functional niche of plants regarding the functional traits specific leaf area (SLA), plant height (HE), and seed mass (SM). We associate wood density (WD) to this scheme because this trait is a key feature for the identification of functional strategies in seasonally dry vegetation such as the Caatinga. We measured these characteristics in eight woody species and classified them according to their leaf phenology into deciduous and evergreen. The experiment was carried out between December 2017 and November 2018 in Caatinga areas located in the municipality of Barra de Santana, PB, a semiarid region of Brazil. Using cluster analysis, principal component analysis (PCA) and Pearson correlation analyses, we found significant relations between SLA and SM, and HE and WD. The SLA was the main predictor of plant strategy in the Caatinga. According to this characteristic, we identified two functional groups: species with a low SLA and species with a high SLA. We also recognized differences between deciduous and evergreen species based on the same trait. The traits measured, which represent the axes of the plant ecological strategy scheme LHS and wood density, are efficient in the discrimination of functional groups in the Brazilian semiarid. ABSTRACT Parasites are important components of communities and constitute great part of the biological diversity found in ecosystems, providing valuable information about their hosts and the environment in which they live. However, despite its importance, parasitic diversity is still not well known in some regions of Brazil, especially with respect to fish parasites in the Northeast Region. The present study aims to perform the survey of gill parasites of fish from two tropical estuaries located in northeastern Brazil: Paraíba and Mamanguape rivers. Two collections were made in each estuary, one during the dry period (November / 2013) and the other during the rainy season (July / 2014). The fish were caught using a beach seine net, dragged along the main channel margin. After the identification, biometry and necropsy of the fish, their parasites were collected, stored and identified. For each species of parasite, the values of prevalence, mean intensity and mean abundance were calculated. Of the 882 examined fish, belonging to four species, 145 were parasitized by at least one species of parasite. In total, 18 taxa of parasites of the groups Monogenea, Digenea, Nematoda, Copepoda and Isopoda were recorded, being the copepod Acusicola brasiliensis the most abundant species of parasite.

Este trabalho foi desenvolvido em ambiente protegido objetivando avaliar o desempenho de cultivares de alface em condições de salinidade. O delineamento utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado, e os tratamentos foram distribuídos em esquema fatorial 5 x 5, com cinco cultivares de alface (Mônica SF31, Grandes Lagos 659, Veneranda, Folha Roxa Quatro Estações e Stella) e cinco níveis de salinidade de água (0,5; 1,5; 2,5; 3,5 e 4,5 dS m-1) e três repetições. As plantas foram colhidas aos 35 dias após o transplantio e avaliados as principais características morfofisiológicas de crescimento: número de folhas, área foliar, comprimento do caule, massa fresca e massa seca das plantas. Verificou-se efeito significativo dos fatores isolados e da interação, para todas as características de crescimento. O maior desempenho foi obtido na cultivar Folha Roxa Quatro Estações. O número de folhas, a área foliar e a fitomassa da parte aérea, foram reduzidos linearmente com o aumento da salinidade, sendo os maiores valores obtidos nas cultivares Folha Roxa Quatro Estações e Stella.

This study was carried out in greenhouse to evaluate the performance of different cultivars of lettuce under saline conditions. The experimental design was a completely randomized in factorial scheme, with five cultivars of lettuce (Mônica SF31, Grandes Lagos 659, Veneranda, Folha Roxa Quatro Estações e Stella) and five levels of water salinity (0.5 , 1.5, 2.5, 3.5 and 4.5 dS m-1) and three replications. The plants were harvested at 35 days after transplanting and the main morphophysiological growth parameters, that is, the number of leaves, leaf area, stem length, fresh weight and dry weight of plants were evaluated. Significant effect of the isolated factors and of the interaction for all parameters was found. The best performance was obtained in cultivar Folha Roxa Quatro Estações. The number of leaves, leaf area and biomass of shoots were reduced linearly with increasing salinity, with higher values in cultivars Folha Roxa Quatro Estações and Stella.

Este estudo mostra, por meio de microscopia convencional, impregnação por nitrato de prata e microscopia eletrônica de transmissão, as mudanças que ocorrem na atividade nuclear de células do ovário durante a vitelogênese de Apis mellifera (Linnaeus, 1758). Material impregnado por nitrato de prata foi detectado no núcleo de células nutridoras, na vesícula germinal do ovócito e no núcleo das células foliculares. As maiores quantidades de material impregnado pela prata foram observadas durante as fases de maior atividade dessas estruturas. A impregnação por prata permitiu demonstrar que a vesícula germinal sintetiza ribonucleoproteínas (RNP) durante o início da vitelogênese. A ultraestrutura mostrou que o material impregnado apresenta características morfológicas de nucléolos.

The present paper shows through conventional light microscopy, silver nitrate impregnation and Transmission Electron Microscopy, the changes in nuclear activity that occurs in the ovary cells during vitellogenesis of Apis mellifera (Linnaeus, 1758). The material impregnated by silver nitrate was detected in nurse cells, oocyte germinal vesicle and follicular cells, whose amounts are greater in phases corresponding to ovarian cells more intense activity. The silver impregnation permitted to demonstrate that the oocyte germinal vesicle synthezises ribonucleoproteins (RNP) during the beginning of the vitellogenesis. The ultrastructure show nucleolar-like material corresponding to nuclear sites impregnated by silver.

No ovário das abelhas as células germinativas e as células foliculares são interconectadas por pontes intercelulares mantidas abertas por reforços do citoesqueleto na membrana plasmática. As pontes entre as células germinativas têm comportamento dinâmico e provavelmente atuam na determinação do ovócito entre as células do clone formado pelas mitoses pré meióticas formando posteriormente uma via de transporte para que os produtos sintetizados pelas células nutridoras atinjam o ovócito durante sua maturação. Os elementos do citoesqueleto presentes nas pontes intercelulares das gônadas das abelhas são basicamente microfilamentos e microtúbulos, mas nas pontes entre os cistócitos pré-meióticos outro tipo de filamento (espesso de natureza não definida, associado a elementos do retículo endoplasmático) está presente, atravessando a ponte e prendendo-se através dos microfilamentos à membrana plasmática. Estes filamentos aparentemente controlam o vão da ponte. Terminada a fase de proliferação os cistócitos tomam a forma de uma roseta e um fusoma, formado pela convergência das pontes, aparece no centro desta. Nesta conformação os filamentos grossos não estão presentes. Nova mudança ocorre com a diferenciação do ovócito e das células nutridoras, com a reorientação de todas as pontes de maneira a canalizar o conteúdo das futuras células nutridoras para o ovócito.

The germline cells in the ovary of the female bee are interconnected by intercellular bridges kept open by cytoskeletal reinforcements in the plasmic membrane. These bridges among the germline cells display a dynamic behavior and probably act in the determination of the oocyte among the cells of the clone formed by the premeiotic mitoses, subsequently forming a pathway that enables the products synthesized by the nurse cells to reach the oocyte during its maturation. The cytoskeletal elements in the intercellular bridges of bee gonads are basically microfilaments and microtubules, but another type of filament (thick, of non-defined nature, associated with elements of the endoplasmic reticulum) is present in the bridges between the premeiotic cystocytes. This filament crosses the bridge, using microfilaments to fasten itself to the plasmic membrane. These filaments appear to control the span of the bridge. Upon completion of the proliferation phase the cystocytes take on a rosette shape, and a fusome formed by the convergence of the bridges appears at their center. The thick filaments are not present in this conformation. The differentiation of the oocyte and the nurse cells leads to a new change, in which the bridges are reoriented to convey the content of the future nurse cells to the oocyte.

Os resultados do presente trabalho demonstram que nos ovaríolos da rainha de Apis mellifera recém-emergida (0 dia) apenas duas regiões podem ser distinguidas: um curto germário proximal e um longo filamento terminal distal. À medida que a rainha amadurece e fica pronta para o vôo nupcial, o comprimento do germário aumenta e avança em direção à região distal e o filamento terminal diminui. Os ovaríolos da rainha pronta para acasalar (6 a 8 dias) têm 1 ou 2 folículos ovarianos, isto é, um vitelário proximal muito pequeno, mas a vitelogênese propriamente dita somente se inicia após a fecundação. Nas rainhas não acasaladas os ovaríolos se desestruturam (12-16 dias). Nas rainhas acasaladas os ovários apresentam os ovaríolos divididos em três regiões, do ápice para a base: um filamento terminal pequeno, um germário médio e um vitelário muito longo. Quando os ovos são postos, os folículos esvaziados colapsam, produzem um corpo lúteo e finalmente degeneram.

The present results show that in the ovarioles of a newly emerged (0 day) queen of A. mellifera only two regions may be distinguished: a proximal, short germarium and a very long distal, terminal filament. As the queen matures and gets ready for the nupcial flight, the germarium increases in lenght, advancing towered the distal end, as the terminal filament shortens. The ovarioles of queens ready to mate (6 to 8 days old) have, already one or two ovarian follicles, i.e. a very short proximal vitellarium, but a real vitellogenesis only starts after the fecundation. If the queen does not mate the ovarioles structure is disrupted (12-16 days old). In mated queen eggs the ovarioles present three differentiated regions, from the apice to the basis: a short terminal filament, a medium size germarium, and a very long basal vitellarium. As the eggs are laid, the emptied follicle collapses, degenerates and produces a corpus luteum.
