ABSTRACT In Brazil, Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya viruses constitute a major threat to the public health system. Simultaneous circulation of these arboviruses occurs in many regions of the world due to the expansion of transmission vectors. The infection by these arboviruses triggers similar symptoms during their acute phase. However, in some cases, severe symptoms may occur, leading to different types of disabilities and even death. In this context, considering the similarity of the symptoms, the problems caused by the infection of these arboviruses, and the increasing risk of coinfection in humans, the differential diagnosis of these infections is essential for clinical management and epidemiological investigation. Thus, this study aimed to identify, through diagnosis via Quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction with Reverse Transcription, arbovirus coinfection in patients from the Tocantins state (Northern Brazil). A total of 495 samples were analyzed, three from which were determined to be a coinfection of Dengue and Chikungunya viruses. The data obtained here indicate the co-circulation and coinfection by Dengue and Chikungunya viruses in the Tocantins state. These results highlight the importance of monitoring the circulation of these arboviruses for the development of health actions that aim their prevention and combat, as well as their clinical and therapeutic management. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82.

ABSTRACT The article defends the importance of the concept of Brazilian biomes, both for historical-environmental analysis and for the development of legislation and public policies aimed at conserving the natural world. In addition to discussing the general lines of the concept genealogy, it argues that it is especially useful for visualizing the territorial construction of the country as a whole, while presenting clear limits for a more detailed regional and micro-regional analysis. The synthetic representation of biomes facilitates a synoptic perception of Brazil’s ecological regions. This perception is in line with the adoption of a basic methodological premise of environmental history: the need to investigate the movement of human societies in the context of territories filled and colored by the diversity of living beings and geological dynamics that exist concretely in the different spaces of the planet. That is, to overcome the simplification presented by a cartography that is only political and centered exclusively on human action. Finally, the article analyzes some examples of the rich historiography that already exists on the history of biomes, drawing attention to the importance of getting to know the production that is emerging in the various regions of the country, both in academic spaces and in literature in general. historicalenvironmental historical world genealogy whole microregional micro Brazils Brazil s planet action Finally

ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Despite its increasing popularity, laparoscopy is not the option for bariatric surgeries performed in the Brazilian public health system. AIMS: To compare laparotomy and laparoscopic access in bariatric surgery, considering aspects such as morbidity, mortality, costs, and length of stay. METHODS: The study included 80 patients who were randomly assigned to perform a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass. They were equally divided in two groups, laparoscopic and laparotomy. The results obtained in the postoperative period were evaluated and compared according to the Ministry of Health protocol, and later, in their outpatient returns. RESULTS: The surgical time was similar in both groups (p=0.240). The costs of laparoscopic surgery proved to be higher, mainly due to staplers and staples. The patients included in the laparotomy group presented higher rates of severe complications, such as incisional hernia (p<0.001). Costs related to social security and management of postoperative complications were higher in the open surgery group (R$ 1,876.00 vs R$ 34,268.91). CONCLUSIONS: The costs related to social security and treatment of complications were substantially lower in laparoscopic access when compared to laparotomy. However, considering the operative procedure itself, the laparotomy remained cheaper. Finally, the length of stay, the rate of complications, and return to labor had more favorable results in the laparoscopic route.
Abstract This article provides an overview of books published on Brazilian environmental history. Among the large variety of environmental themes seen in Brazilian historiography, we selected the authors who in some way identify themselves as explicitly related to the academic environmental history community. Although the emphasis was on authored books, we sought to at least mention the principal edited books produced in the field. With this mapping, we demonstrate the themes and spatial-temporal foci prioritized by environmental historians in their studies on Brazil. Additionally, we sought to show how the gaps still existing in the literature provide promising paths for future expansion of this field.

ABSTRACT Although the use of inoculants containing rhizobia is encouraged, there are no official recommendations for inoculation of snap bean. In this respect, the aim of this study was to evaluate the agronomic performance of Rhizobium strains in symbiosis with snap bean cultivars with different growth habits and crop cycles. The experiment was carried out in pots with soil in a greenhouse in the spring-summer season in Lavras, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A completely randomized experimental design was used, with 4 replications, in a 4 × 7 factorial arrangement involving four snap bean cultivars and seven treatments – five strains of Rhizobium (UFLA 02-100, UFLA 02-127, UFLA 04-173, CIAT 899, and PRF 81), plus two controls without inoculation (with and without 500 mg N-NH4NO3∙dm–3). We conclude that: i) while genetic differences were observed among cultivars with respect to nodulating capacity, in all cases significant benefits were observed from BNF inoculation and ii) inoculation with selected strains of Rhizobium, as well as fertilization with mineral N, favors plant growtht, snap bean yields, and accumulation of N in the pods and, therefore, can fully substitute nitrogen fertilization in snap bean grown under protected cultivation.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the viability of liquid medium inoculation of Rhizobium etli in the planting furrow and to certify the efficiency of its strain UFLA 02-100 as a potential inoculant for common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris). The treatments consisted of three application rates of liquid inoculant applied in the planting furrows or in common bean seed, besides two controls without inoculation. The inoculant contained 109 cells of Rhizobium etli mL-1. Regardless of the application method, the yield obtained with the inoculation was equivalent to that of N from urea; however, the application in the furrows, at 0.6 L ha-1, is more advantageous due to the operational practicality and reduced costs.

Symbiosis of common bean with nitrogen-fixing bacteria can lead to a reduction in production costs and in environmental impacts. Considering the diversity of soils and climates, it is important to validate bacterial strains under different conditions to consolidate their recommendation as inoculants. Studies concerning the economic viability of Rhizobium inoculation in common bean are few, but they could assist in choosing the strain to be adopted. The aim of this study was to evaluate the performance of Rhizobium strains isolated from acid soils from the Amazon inoculated in seeds of the BRSMG Madrepérola cultivar and to evaluate the economic viability of their use in the field. Four field experiments were conducted in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A randomized block experimental design was used with four replications and seven treatments: inoculation with the strains CIAT 899 (Rhizobium tropici), UFLA 02-100 (R. etli), UFLA 02-68 (R. etli bv. mimosae), UFLA 02-127 (R. leguminosarum bv. phaseoli), and UFLA 04-173 (R. miluonense),plus two controls, one without inoculation + mineral nitrogen (N-urea) at a rate of 80 kg N ha-1 and another without inoculation and without mineral N. The strain CIAT 899 is already recommended for the manufacture of a commercial inoculant, and the others, collected in the Amazon Forest, have proven to be highly effective in biological nitrogen fixation. Symbiosis of common bean with all the strains evaluated leads to satisfactory yields, with reduction in the application rate of mineral nitrogen and in environmental impacts and, consequently, reduction in economic costs, with higher profitability.

ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of foliar application of molybdenum and small dose of nitrogen at planting on common bean production when using seed inoculation with rhizobia. Two field experiments were conducted, applying a randomized block design and a factorial arrangement (3x2x2) + 1, with three replicates. Treatments consisted of inoculation with Rhizobium spp. (strain CIAT 899T, strain UFLA 02-100, and uninoculated), foliar application of molybdenum (0 and 80 g ha-1), and fertilization with N-urea at planting (0 and 20 kg ha-1), with an additional N treatment of 40 applied at planting and 40 kg ha-1 applied as topdressing. The foliar application of molybdenum did not favor the nodulation, but its effect on yield was dependent on the chemical soil characteristics, providing highest yield in soil at Patos de Minas with pH more acid and with higher phosphorus and organic matter concentrations. Small dose of nitrogen applied at planting did not reduce nodulation of bean inoculated with rhizobia, but it can reduce the seeds emergence, thus negatively affecting yield. The native rhizobia promoted nodulation, the plant growth, shoot N accumulation and yield similar to the treatments that received inoculations of rhizobia strains.

Effort estimation is a big challenge for those trying to manage a project. In a software development project, testing is essential to assure product quality. However, it is a time consuming activity, and its work must be estimated for successful project execution. In our research, we concentrate our efforts on comparing some known methods of test effort estimation. So, this paper aims to analyze three different test effort estimation methods and compare them with the effort spent on real projects. Firstly we compare two widely used effort estimation methods: Test Point Analysis (TPA) and Use Case Points (UCP). Thereafter, we create an artificial neural network (ANN) based on the TPA, trained to estimate the testing work in software development projects, and compare it with pure TPA, to check which of them results in better estimates. Analyzing the experiment results, we concluded that the neural networks gave the best results, followed by TPA and then UCP.
