A pandemia de COVID-19 foi tomada como um caso que bem ilustra essa dessintonia entre desenvolvimento e desigualdades. Formulam-se perguntas a serem postas em debate sobre a construção do futuro da sociedade mundial, com base na acepção sobre o caráter evolucional da vida no planeta vis-à-vis os males que acometem grandes contingentes populacionais e representam poderosos riscos para esse processo evolutivo. São indagações que apontam para a discussão em torno da participação social na definição e no controle das políticas públicas, em contrapartida à hegemonia dos interesses privados na formulação e execução dessas políticas, tanto nos cenários de cada país como no contexto internacional.

RESUMO O potássio é um dos nutrientes mais importantes para o algodoeiro, sendo um elemento que participa de muitas funções fisiológicas na planta. Além disso, sua adequada disponibilidade favorece melhor desempenho produtivo à cultura. Logo, objetivou-se avaliar nesta pesquisa os componentes agronômicos em cultivares de algodão naturalmente colorido adubadas com doses de potássio no Semiárido brasileiro. Para isto, dois experimentos foram conduzidos na Fazenda Experimental Rafael Fernandes, localizada no município de Mossoró, RN, nos períodos de julho a novembro de 2019 e julho a novembro de 2021. O delineamento experimental foi o de blocos casualizados, arranjados em parcelas subdivididas, com quatro repetições. Nas parcelas, foram alocadas as doses de potássio (0, 60, 120, 180 e 240 kg ha-1 de K2O); e, nas subparcelas, as quatro cultivares de algodão naturalmente colorido (BRS Rubi, BRS Safira, BRS Verde e BRS Topázio). ABSTRACT Potassium is one of the most important nutrients for the cotton plant, being an element that participates in many physiological functions. In addition, its adequate availability favors better production performance of the crop. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the agronomic components in naturally colored cotton cultivars fertilized with potassium doses in the Brazilian semiarid region. For this, two experiments were conducted at Rafael Fernandes Experimental Farm, located in the municipality of Mossoró, RN, from July to November 2019 and July to November 2021. The experimental design was randomized blocks, arranged in split plots, with four repetitions. Potassium doses (0, 60, 120, 180, and 240 kg ha-1 of K2O) were allocated in the plants; and four naturally colored cotton cultivars (BRS Rubi, BRS Safira, BRS Verde, and BRS Topázio) were allocated in the subplots. Colored cotton cultivars respond to potassium fertilization depending on the edaphoclimatic conditions to which they are exposed. BRS Topázio cultivar had higher lint cotton yield and fiber percentage in both growing seasons, highlighting its potential for the region. The dose of 240 kg ha-1 of K2O increased the yield of colored cotton, in second crop cultivation. RESUMO: Protocolos que induzem à lactação artificial em vacas e novilhas são eficazes e estão comercialmente disponíveis no Brasil. No entanto, esses protocolos demandam longos tratamentos hormonais, o que é discutível visto que poucas pesquisas foram feitas sobre o assunto. Para entender melhor os protocolos de indução artificial à lactação (IAL), realizamos dois experimentos. Foi testada a hipótese de que um protocolo curto (oito dias) de IAL é tão eficiente quanto o protocolo padrão de 15 dias. No experimento 1 objetivou-se caracterizar o perfil esteroidal durante um protocolo de IAL e avaliou-se os perfis séricos de estradiol (E2) e progesterona (P4) de vacas Jersey (n=6) submetidas a um protocolo convencional. ABSTRACT: Protocols to artificially induce cows and heifers into lactation are effective and commercially available in Brazil. However, these protocols demand long hormonal treatments, which is debatable since little research has been done in the subject. To further understand artificial induction to lactation (AIL) protocols, we conducted two experiments. In experiment 1, our objective was to better characterize steroidal profile during an AIL protocol and assess the estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) serum profiles of Jersey cows (n=6) subjected to a conventional protocol. In experiment 2, we aimed to compare milk production and serum E2 concentrations of Holstein heifers induced into lactation by the standard AIL protocol (15 injections of E2 and 8 P4 injections) and by a short protocol in which the number of E2 injections and, consequently, the overall dosage of E2, were reduced (8 injections of E2 and 8 P4 injections). Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito da adição dietética de anacardato de cálcio como fonte de ácido anacárdico sobre o desempenho reprodutivo e os parâmetros antioxidantes sanguíneos de coelhas Nova Zelândia Branco. Vinte e sete fêmeas da raça Nova Zelândia Branco foram distribuídas em delineamento em blocos ao acaso, com três tratamentos e nove repetições, tendo-se considerado um animal como unidade experimental. Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the dietary addition of calcium anacardate as a source of phenolic compounds on the reproductive performance and blood antioxidant parameters of New Zealand White female rabbits. Twenty-seven New Zealand White female rabbits were distributed in a randomized complete block design with three treatments and nine replicates, considering one animal as the experimental unit. The treatments consisted of pelleted diets with different inclusion levels of calcium anacardate (0, 0.5, and 1.0%). The inclusion of calcium anacardate in the diets increased the concentration of phenolic compounds and the antioxidant capacity in the blood of lactating female rabbits. RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: A dor no ombro é uma condição limitante, que apresenta grande impacto nas atividades de vida diárias e no trabalho. Conhecer quais atividades específicas envolvendo o ombro estão associadas à ocorrência de maiores níveis de dor pode ser de interesse dos profissionais. A utilização de imagens de movimentos do ombro pode ser uma ferramenta eficaz para verificar a presença de dor e medo de movimento, quebrar barreiras de linguagem e culturais e facilitar a comunicação entre profissional e paciente. Os objetivos deste estudo foram: (1) realizar a análise descritiva das respostas de medo e evitação do movimento a partir da visualização passiva de imagens de movimentos do ombro baseadas nos códigos da Classificação Internacional de Funcionalidade, Incapacidade e Saúde (CIF); (2) verificar se há correlação das respostas de medo e evitação do movimento com o Índice de dor e Incapacidade do Ombro (SPADI). METODOS: Neste estudo observacional do tipo transversal foram recrutadas pessoas com dor crônica no ombro. Os participantes responderam ao Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) e à Escala TAMPA de Cinesiofobia (TSK) para mensurar a intensidade da dor e incapacidade do ombro, e de medo do movimento, respectivamente. Os participantes visualizaram 58 imagens de movimentos baseadas em códigos e descritores do terceiro capítulo de Atividade e Participação da CIF. Além disso, responderam a uma escala numérica para julgar o medo do movimento e a uma segunda escala numérica para julgar a evitação ao movimento. RESULTADOS: Participaram do estudo 42 pessoas. As atividades pertencentes ao subgrupo mobilidade (capítulo 4), referente ao capítulo 3 da CIF, são as que apresentam maiores respostas de medo e evitação do movimento. A regressão múltipla resultou em um modelo significativo [F (1, 40) = 31, 119; p<0,001; R2 = 0,438], ao verificar se as respostas de medo e evitação do movimento referente às imagens da CIF estão associadas ao SPADI dos participantes com dor crônica no ombro. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Shoulder pain is a limiting condition that has a major impact on daily activities and work. Knowing which specific activities involving the shoulder are associated with the occurrence of higher levels of pain may be of interest to professionals. The use of images of shoulder movements can be an effective tool to check the presence of pain and fear of movement, break down language and cultural barriers, and facilitate communication between professional and patient. The objectives of this study were: (1) to carry out a descriptive analysis of fear responses and movement avoidance based on passive viewing of images of shoulder movements based on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) codes; (2) to check whether there is a correlation between fear responses and movement avoidance with the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI). METHODS: In this cross-sectional observational study, individuals with chronic shoulder pain were recruited. Participants responded to the Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) and the TAMPA Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) to measure the intensity of shoulder pain and disability, and fear of movement, respectively. Participants viewed 58 movement images based on codes and descriptors from the third chapter of ICF. In addition, they responded to a numerical scale to judge fear of movement and a second numerical scale to judge movement avoidance. RESULTS: The study included 42 individuals. The activities belonging to the mobility subgroup (chapter 4), which refers to chapter 3 of the ICF, are those that present greater responses of fear and movement avoidance. Multiple regression resulted in a significant model [F(1, 40) = 31.119; p<0.001; R2 = 0.438], when verifying whether fear and movement avoidance responses related to ICF images are associated with SPADI in participants with chronic shoulder pain. The fear response is associated with SPADI (β=0.661; t=5.578; p<0.001), however, the avoidance response did not present a significant result with the scale (β=−0.063; t=-0.160; p=0.874). Abstract Although control of Covid-19 has improved, the virus continues to cause infections, such as tuberculosis, that is still endemic in many countries, representing a scenario of coinfection. To compare Covid-19 clinical manifestations and outcomes between patients with active tuberculosis infection and matched controls. This is a matched case-control study based on data from the Brazilian Covid-19 Registry, in hospitalized patients aged 18 or over with laboratory confirmed Covid-19 from March 1, 2020, to March 31, 2022. Cases were patients with tuberculosis and controls were Covid-19 patients without tuberculosis. From 13,636 Covid-19, 36 also had active tuberculosis (0.0026%). Pulmonary fibrosis (5.6% vs 0.0%), illicit drug abuse (30.6% vs 3.0%), alcoholism (33.3% vs 11.9%) and smoking (50.0% vs 9.7%) were more common among patients with tuberculosis. They also had a higher frequency of nausea and vomiting (25.0% vs 10.4%). There were no significant differences in in-hospital mortality, mechanical ventilation, need for dialysis and ICU stay. Patients with TB infection presented a higher frequency of pulmonary fibrosis, abuse of illicit drugs, alcoholism, current smoking, symptoms of nausea and vomiting. About one in four children with CHD requires surgery or other procedures in the first year of life, and it is expected that approximately 81% of these children with CHD will survive until at least 35 years of age. Professionals choosing to specialize in CHD surgery face numerous challenges, not only related to mastering surgical techniques and the complexity of the diseases but also to the lack of recognition by medical societies as a separate subspecialty. Abstract Background Enteropathic spondyloarthritis is underdiagnosed and inflammatory biomarkers and ultrasonography (US) could be useful for screening inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of spondyloarthritis (SpA) in IBD patients, according to the Assessment of SpondyloArthritis International Society (ASAS) criteria and the correlation of results of US of entheses and joints with plasma calprotectin levels. Methods This was an observational cross-sectional study. Patients from the IBD outpatient clinic of a reference center were evaluated according to ASAS criteria classification, results of US of entheses and joints, and inflammatory biomarker measurements (erythrocyte sedimentation rates, C-reactive protein levels, fecal and plasma calprotectin levels). A p value lower than 0.05 was considered significant. Results A total of 30.5% of the studied sample (n = 118) of patients with IBD presented at least one inflammatory musculoskeletal manifestation. The overall prevalence of enteropathic SpA was 13.55%, with 10.16% axial SpA and 4.23% peripheral SpA according to the ASAS criteria. A total of 42.1% of patients had an MASEI score greater than 18, 35.2% had synovitis, and 14.7% had tenosynovitis on US, increasing the frequency of diagnosis of entero- pathic SpA to 22.8%. Plasma calprotectin levels were similar to those in healthy controls, and correlated only with the fecal calprotectin level (p 0.041). Conclusions A total of 13.5% of patients met the criteria in accordance with the ASAS criteria for enteropathic SpA, which increased to 22.8% with the addition of US. ABSTRACT. Downy mildew is a major problem for grape growers, as this disease is difficult to control. Synthetic fungicides are used to treat downy mildew with handheld backpack and tractor sprayer applications, with high chemical exposure by operators. As important tools for maximising yield, application technologies must be studied to optimise control efficiency. The objective of this study was to evaluate the efficiency of fungicide spray application using Remotely Piloted Aircraft (RPA) for the control of downy mildew in grapevine, with different spray volumes. The study was divided into two experiments using 4 vine lines, 10 blocks and 5 treatments with different mixture volumes: Experiment 1 with RPA application of 5 mixture volumes - 0, 22, 44, 66, and 88 L ha−1; Experiment 2 with RPA application of 3 mixture volumes - 44, 66, and 88 L ha−1 and a backpack application of one mixture volume - 800 L ha−1. Coverage percentage, droplet density and volume median diameter (VMD) were evaluated. Downy mildew severity on grapevine leaves was assessed using visual analysis and a diagrammatic scale. The application of 44 L ha−1 provided the greatest coverage and droplet density in the upper and middle strata; however, the backpack application had a better droplet distribution than the RPA application. Treatments of 44 L ha−1 with RPA and backpack application (800 L ha−1) provided the best disease control. In the trellis system, RPA application must be improved because of the low coverage in the lower parts of the plant, and further studies with different spray nozzles and application heights are needed. Resumo O graute é um material normalmente aplicado para melhorar as propriedades mecânicas da alvenaria estrutural. Assim, a demanda pela utilização do grautes vem crescendo paralelamente à demanda por alvenaria estrutural. Sem diretrizes específicas para dosagem, esses produtos geralmente são preparados no local com base nos mesmos conceitos para preparo de concretos comuns. Várias propriedades do graute ainda precisam ser investigadas e compreendidas como ineficiência dos parâmetros de dosagem, resultando na produção de grautes não ecoeficientes. Desta forma, existe uma demanda por estudos técnico-científicos que auxiliem no desenvolvimento de diretrizes para dosagens de grautes. Este trabalho avalia as propriedades reológicas e do endurecidas de composições de grautes que simulam condições de campo para mostrar a inadequação do método de dosagem, demonstrando uma maneira de entender essa lacuna na tecnologia. A pesquisa investiga como as mudanças na relação água/cimento, para aumentar trabalhabilidade, afetariam as propriedades de estado fresco e endurecido de grautes para alvenaria estrutural. A mistura dos grautes foi realizada em um reômetro que permitiu determinar o comportamento e os parâmetros reológicos durante a mistura e em diferentes condições de cisalhamento. A resistência à compressão, a porosidade e a permeabilidade ao ar foram as propriedades avaliadas no estado endurecido. Os resultados mostraram que composições com maior teor de cimento não necessariamente refletiram propriedades mecânicas melhores, uma vez que não houve alterações estatística, pois outras variáveis também foram alteradas. Abstract Grout is a material usually applied to enhance the mechanical properties of structural masonry. As such, the demand for grout has been growing parallel to the demand for structural masonry. Without guidelines for grout mixing design, these products are often prepared on-site based on the same concepts used for preparing ordinary Portland cement-based concretes. Several grout properties still need to be investigated and understood due to this mixing-design approach, and consequently, the production of ecoefficient grouts is a secondary priority. Due to these obstacles, there is a demand for technical-scientific studies to aid with developing grout design guidelines. This work evaluates the rheological and hardened properties of grout compositions that simulate in-field conditions to show the inadequacy of the mixing design method and a way to understand this lack in the technology. The research investigates how the changes in the water-to-cement ratio, to increase the strength, would affect the fresh and hardened state properties of grouts for structural masonry. The grout’s mixing was done in a rheometer which made it possible to determine the rheological behaviour and parameters during mixing and under different shear conditions. Compressive strength, porosity, and air-permeability were evaluated in the hardened state. The results showed that compositions with more cement content does not necessarily reflect enhanced mechanical properties since the differences were not statistically significant, because other variables were also changed. Os dados foram analisados por meio de regressão linear e logística múltipla, com o Odds Ratio estimado, adotando-se p<0,05 como significância estatística. Resultados: 1.355 indivíduos recusaram a doação de pele. A tendência de recusas foi decrescente (2001-2009) nas faixas etárias de 0-11 anos e de 12-19 anos e crescente na faixa de ≥60 anos. A tendência permaneceu decrescente (2010-2020) na faixa etária de 0-11 anos e crescente na de 20-40 anos. O sexo masculino e as faixas etárias de 20-40 anos, 41-59 anos e ≥60 anos apresentaram, respectivamente, 27%, 34%, 47% e 53% menores chances de recusa. ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze the trends and factors associated with family refusal of skin donation for transplantation. Methods: this cross-sectional study was conducted in the State of São Paulo, with family authorization terms collected from 2001 to 2020. The variables analyzed included year, age, gender, cause of death, and type of institution. Data were analyzed using linear and multiple logistic regression, with the Odds Ratio estimated at p<0.05 for statistical significance. Results: 1,355 individuals refused skin donation. The trend of refusals decreased between 2001 and 2009 in the age groups of 0-11 years and 12-19 years, but increased in the group aged ≥60 years. This trend continued to decrease in the 0-11 years group from 2010 to 2020, and increased in the 20-40 years group. Males and the age groups of 20-40 years, 41-59 years, and ≥60 years exhibited 27%, 34%, 47%, and 53% lower chances of refusal, respectively. Conclusions: there is an urgent need for measures to mitigate the high number of refusals associated with skin donation. Métodos: estudio transversal desarrollado en el Estado de São Paulo con los términos de autorización familiar firmados entre 2001 y 2020. Las variables analizadas fueron: año, edad, sexo, causa del deceso y tipo de institución. Los datos fueron analizados mediante regresión lineal y logística múltiple, con la estimación del Odds Ratio, adoptando p<0,05 como significancia estadística.
