Abstract Objective To evaluate the association between inflammatory markers and abdominal fat assessed by ultrasound in prepubertal children with and without excess weight. Methods A cross-sectional study involving 241 prepubertal children, 156 with obesity, 37 with overweight, and 48 with normal weight, aged five to ten years, who were followed at a research unit on Childhood Obesity from a teaching hospital belonging to a public health system. The concentration of interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α and C-reactive protein were assessed and regression analyses, considering outcome variables such as abdominal wall and intra-abdominal fat thickness measured by ultrasound, were performed. Results The findings highlighted an association between abdominal fat and inflammatory markers, even in children at this young age group. Subcutaneous fat showed a stronger association with inflammatory biomarkers compared to intra-abdominal fat when performing logistic regression, with a positive association between tumor necrosis factor-α and abdominal wall thickness equal to or greater than the 75th percentile in adjusted logistic regression (OR: 18.12; CI 95 %: 1.57: 209.55). Resumo Fundamento: A Cardiomiopatia Chagásica Crônica (CCC) é causada por um processo inflamatório induzido pelo Trypanosoma cruzi, que leva à miocardite com fibrose reativa e reparativa. A CCC progride com alterações de perfusão miocárdica e eventos histopatológicos que afetam a Aptidão Cardiorrespiratória (ACR). Objetivos: Avaliamos os efeitos do Treinamento Físico Aeróbico (TFA) na perfusão miocárdica e nos comprometimentos morfológicos e funcionais relacionados à inflamação e fibrose em hamsters sírios com CCC. Como objetivo secundário, analisamos as áreas de secção transversa do músculo esquelético. Métodos: Hamsters com CCC e seus respectivos controles foram divididos em quatro grupos: CCC sedentário, CCC-TFA, controle sedentário e controle TFA. Sete meses após a infecção, os animais foram submetidos à ecocardiografia, à cintilografia de perfusão miocárdica e ao teste de esforço cardiopulmonar. TFA de intensidade moderada foi realizado durante cinquenta minutos, cinco vezes por semana, por oito semanas. Posteriormente, os animais foram reavaliados. A análise histopatológica foi realizada após os procedimentos acima mencionados. O nível de significância foi estabelecido em 5% em todas as análises (p<0,05). Resultados: Animais com CCC sedentários apresentaram piores Defeitos de Perfusão Miocárdica (DPM) ao longo do tempo, Fração de Ejeção do Ventrículo Esquerdo (FEVE) reduzida, e apresentaram mais inflamação e fibrose quando comparados aos demais grupos (análise ANOVA mista). Por outro lado, o TFA foi capaz de mitigar a progressão do DPM, atenuar a inflamação e a fibrose e melhorar a eficiência da ACR em animais CCC-TFA. Conclusão: Nosso estudo demonstrou que o TFA melhorou a disfunção cardíaca, DPM e reduziu a inflamação e a fibrose em modelos de hamster com CCC. Além disso, os animais CCC-SED apresentaram atrofia do músculo esquelético, enquanto os animais CCC-TFA apresentaram a AST do músculo esquelético preservada. Abstract Background: Chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy (CCC) is caused by an inflammatory process induced by Trypanosoma cruzi, which leads to myocarditis with reactive and reparative fibrosis. CCC progresses with myocardial perfusion abnormalities and histopathological events that affect cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF). Objectives: We evaluated the effects of aerobic physical training (APT) on myocardial perfusion and on morphological and functional impairments related with inflammation and fibrosis in Syrian hamsters with CCC. As a secondary objective, we analyzed the cross-sectional areas of the skeletal muscle. Methods: Hamsters with CCC and their respective controls were divided into four groups: CCC sedentary, CCC-APT, sedentary control and APT control. Seven months after infection, the animals underwent echocardiography, myocardial perfusion scintigraphy and cardiopulmonary exercise testing. Moderate-intensity APT was performed for fifty minutes, five times a week, for eight weeks. Subsequently, the animals were reassessed. Histopathological analysis was conducted after the above-mentioned procedures. The level of significance was set at 5% in all analyses (p<0.05). Results: CCC sedentary animals presented worse myocardial perfusion defects (MPD) over time, reduced left ventricle ejection fraction (LVEF) and showed more inflammation and fibrosis when compared to other groups (mixed ANOVA analysis). Conversely, APT was able to mitigate the progression of MPD, ameliorate inflammation and fibrosis and improve CRF efficiency in CCC-APT animals. Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that APT ameliorated cardiac dysfunction, MPD, and reduced inflammation and fibrosis in CCC hamster models. Additionally, CCC-SED animals presented skeletal muscle atrophy while CCC-APT animals showed preserved skeletal muscle CSA. Resumen Varias publicaciones han reportado la presencia de triatominos en áreas urbanas de las Américas. Cuatro especies de triatominos se reportan en el municipio de Araraquara, São Paulo, Brasil: Panstrongylus megistus, Rhodnius neglectus, Triatoma infestans y T. sordida. Aunque ya se notificado a la municipalidad, presentamos el registro de invasión domiciliaria por parte de R. neglectus en el área urbana de Araraquara. Este hecho refuerza la preocupación por la urbanización de R. neglectus en el estado de São Paulo, con relatos de colonización e invasión de viviendas en diversos municipios.

Abstract Several publications have reported the occurrence of triatomines in urban areas of the Americas. Four species of triatomines are reported in the municipality of Araraquara, São Paulo, Brazil: Panstrongylus megistus, Rhodnius neglectus, Triatoma infestans, and T. sordida. Although already notified to the municipality, we present the record of household invasion by R. neglectus in urban area in the Araraquara. This occurrence reinforces the concern over urbanization by R. neglectus in the state of São Paulo, with reports of colonization and home invasion in various municipalities.

Resumo Introdução: O papel da tomografia computorizada torácica de ultrabaixa dose (ULDCT) em contexto de urgência é desconhecido. Objetivo: Este estudo avaliou a viabilidade da ULDCT em adultos na urgência com suspeita de pneumonia. Foram medidos a dose de radiação, o tempo entre a solicitação e os relatórios do exame, prescrições de antimicrobianos também foram correlacionadas. Métodos: Este estudo avaliou a viabilidade da ULDCT em adultos na urgência com suspeita de pneumonia. Foram medidas a dose de radiação, o tempo entre a solicitação e a disponibilização dos relatórios do exame, e também foram correlacionadas as prescrições de antimicrobianos. Entre outubro de 2017 e dezembro de 2018, incluímos prospectivamente adultos com suspeita de pneumonia adquirida na comunidade, sem diagnóstico definitivo por avaliação clínica. Os critérios de exclusão abrangeram condições clínicas que pudessem afetar a interpretação da imagem. Resultados: Foram incluídos 131 pacientes elegíveis (idade média de 43,5 anos; 57% homens) encaminhados para ULDCT. Dezoito (13,7%) foram excluídos. A dose média de radiação da ULDCT foi de 0,14 mSv. O intervalo de tempo entre a solicitação médica e o resultado da ULDCT foi de 43 minutos. Conclusão: A ULDCT mostrou-se viável para pacientes adultos com suspeita de pneumonia em contexto de urgência. Os relatórios foram disponibilizados num intervalo razoável e os resultados negativos foram associados a uma baixa taxa de prescrição de antibióticos.

Abstract Background: The role of ultra-low-dose chest CT (ULDCT) in the emergency department is unknown. Purpose: This study sought to examine feasibility of ULDCT in adults presenting to the emergency department for whom pneumonia was suspected. Radiation dose and time interval between medical request and ULDCT results were measured, antibiotic prescriptions were correlated. Methods: Between October 2017 and December 2018, we prospectively enrolled consecutive healthy adult patients in a single-center for whom community-acquired pneumonia was suspected and for whom no definitive diagnosis was possible by clinical judgment. Exclusion criteria comprised all chronic conditions that could impact severity and interpretation of image. Results: 131 eligible patients (mean age 43.5 years; 57% men) were enrolled to ULDCT. Eighteen (13.7%) patients were excluded. Average CT radiation dose was 0.14 mSv. Time interval between medical request and ultra-low-dose chest CT result was 43 minutes. Only 15.9% of patients with negative CT received antibiotics. Conclusion: Ultra-low-dose chest CT was feasible for almost all patients in a group of healthy adults presenting to the emergency department with suspected community-acquired pneumonia. Results were made available in a reasonable interval, and negative ones were associated with a low antibiotic prescription rate.

RESUMO O rompimento da Barragem do Fundão em Mariana, MG, ocorrida em 2015, trouxe o desafio de usar o Tecnossolo (tipo de solo) formado pela deposição do rejeito de mineração de ferro nas margens do Rio Doce para agricultura. O objetivo desta pesquisa foi obter a lâmina de água para otimizar a produção da forragem tropical Megathyrsus maximum cv. Mombaça, cultivada em rejeito de mineração de ferro e determinar seu coeficiente de cultura para as condições edafoclimáticas de Viçosa, MG. O experimento foi realizado durante as estações de verão, outono e inverno do ano de 2022, com a utilização de 21 lisímetros de drenagem. O experimento foi distribuído em delineamento inteiramente casualizado com 6 tratamentos (plantas em Tecnossolo com lâminas variando de 20 a 120% da evapotranspiração da cultura, obtida do tratamento-testemunha) e adição de uma testemunha (plantas em Latossolo com lâmina de 100%) com três repetições. Recomenda-se irrigação com reposição de 40% da evapotranspiração da cultura. O cultivo em Tecnossolo diminuiu a capacidade produtiva em 37,39% nos ciclos das estações do verão/outono e outono. Recomenda-se os coeficientes de cultura de 1,2 no verão e 1,5 no outono e no inverno, para o capim-Mombaça cultivado em um Latossolo. ABSTRACT The collapse of the Fundão Dam in Mariana, MG, in 2015 introduced the challenge of using Technosol, a soil type formed by deposition of iron mining waste along the Doce River banks, for agricultural purposes. This study aimed to determine the optimal water depth for enhancing production of tropical forage, Megathyrsus maximus cv. Mombasa, when grown on iron ore tailings. Additionally, it sought to establish a crop coefficient applicable to the edaphoclimatic conditions of Viçosa, MG, Brazil. The experiment was conducted throughout the summer, fall, and winter of 2022, employing 21 drainage lysimeters. A completely randomized experimental design was adopted, featuring six treatment groups (plants in Technosol receiving water depths ranging from 20 to 120% of the crop’s evapotranspiration, as derived from the control treatment), along with a control group (plants in Latosol with a depth of 100%), each with three repetitions. Our findings showed that irrigation must replace 40% of the crop evapotranspiration. Moreover, cultivating in Technosol resulted in a reduction of productive capacity by 37.39% during the summer/fall and fall seasons. RESUMO Dentre os ajustes fitotécnicos necessários, a correta recomendação da população de plantas de cada cultivar de soja é de suma importância para o sucesso na produção desta cultura. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi analisar a distribuição e autocorrelação espacial da população de plantas de soja de acordo com a variabilidade espacial de atributos físicos e químicos de um Latossolo na região do Cerrado brasileiro. Os atributos estudados foram: população de plantas, produtividade de grãos de soja, condutividade elétrica aparente do solo, teor de matéria orgânica do solo, capacidade de troca catiônica, potencial hidrogeniônico e teor de argila no solo. A população de plantas variou inversamente em função da condutividade elétrica aparente do solo. As áreas com os maiores valores de condutividade elétrica aparente do solo, teor de matéria orgânica do solo, capacidade de troca catiônica e teor de argila apresentaram as menores populações de plantas. ABSTRACT Among the necessary phytotechnical adjustments, the correct recommendation of the plant population of each soybean cultivar is of paramount importance for success in crop production. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze the distribution and spatial autocorrelation of the soybean plant population according to the spatial variability of the physical and chemical attributes of Oxisol in the Brazilian Cerrado region. The attributes studied were plant population, soybean grain yield, apparent soil electrical conductivity, soil organic matter content, cation exchange capacity, hydrogenionic potential, and clay content in the soil. The plant population varied inversely as a function of apparent soil electrical conductivity. The areas with the highest values of apparent soil electrical conductivity, soil organic matter content, cation exchange capacity, and clay content had the lowest plant populations. Soybean yield was not influenced by increase or decrease in the plant population. RESUMEN Introducción: El VIH/SIDA es considerado uno de los grandes casos de salud pública, sin embargo, está comprobado que pacientes que hacen uso de la terapia antirretroviral (TARV) y practican entrenamiento de fuerza provoca una promoción de su salud. Objetivos: Evaluar el impacto del entrenamiento de fuerza en la resistencia a las citoquinas y en la composición corporal de las personas que viven con VIH/SIDA. Métodos: Ensayo clínico aleatorizado, la muestra estuvo compuesta por 12 pacientes, siete del Grupo de Fuerza (TFG) y cinco del Grupo de Resistencia Muscular (GRM). Se compararon los niveles de las citocinas IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 y TNF-α y la composición corporal en la primera y la última sesión. Los pacientes completaron 36 sesiones de entrenamiento de fuerza y resistencia durante 12 semanas. Resultados: Tras 36 sesiones de entrenamiento de resistencia GRM, se produjo un aumento significativo de 4.734 pg/mL a 5.050 pg/mL de IL-10 (p=0,002). En cuanto a la TFG, no se encontraron resultados significativos. En cuanto a la composición corporal, hubo diferencias significativas en la TFG debido al aumento de la masa magra en brazos de 6.441g a 7.014g (p=0,04), piernas de 16.379g a 17.281g (p=0,02) y cuerpo entero de 45.640g a 47.343g (p=0,01). En el GRM hubo una disminución significativa del porcentaje de grasa en los brazos de 23.160% a 20.750% (p = 0,04). Para la evaluación de la calidad de vida se utilizó el cuestionario WHOQOL-HIV-Bref, donde se encontró una mejoría significativa en todos los dominios, excepto en el dominio nivel de independencia. Conclusión: Concluimos que el entrenamiento de resistencia muscular es eficaz para aumentar la IL-10 y disminuir el porcentaje de grasa en los brazos, mientras que el entrenamiento de fuerza aumenta la masa magra total. ABSTRACT Introduction: HIV/AIDS is considered one of the great cases of public health, but it is seen that patients who use antiretroviral therapy (ART) and practice strength training promote a promotion of their health. Objectives: Assess the impact of strength and resistance training on cytokines and body composition in people living with HIV/AIDS. Methods: Randomized clinical trial, the sample consisted of 12 patients, 7 from the Strength Group (GF) and 5 from Group 2, Muscular Resistance (MGR). We compared the levels of IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α cytokines and body composition in the first and last sessions. The patients completed 36 strength and resistance training sessions over 12 weeks. Results: After 36 sessions of GRM resistance training, there was a significant increase from 4,734 pg/mL to 5,050 pg/mL of IL-10 (p=0.002). Regarding the GFR, no significant results were found. For body composition, there were significant differences in GFR due to the increase in lean mass of the arms from 6,441g to 7,014g (p=0.04), legs from 16,379g to 17,281g (p=0.02) and whole body of 45,640g to 47,343g (p=0.01). In G2 there was a significant decrease in the percentage of fat in the arms from 23,160% to 20,750% (p = 0.04). To assess quality of life, the WHOQOL-HIV-Bref questionnaire was used, where significant improvement was found in all domains, except for the level of independence domain. Conclusion: We conclude that muscular resistance training is effective in increasing IL-10 and decreasing the percentage of fat in the arms, whereas strength training increases lean mass in arms, legs, and the whole body. RESUMO Introdução: O HIV/AIDS é considerado um dos grandes casos de saúde pública, porém verifica-se que pacientes que fazem uso de terapia antirretroviral (TARV) e praticam treinamento de força provocam uma promoção de sua saúde. Objetivos: Avaliar o impacto do treinamento de força sobre a resistência nas citocinas e a composição corporal de pessoas vivendo com HIV/AIDS. Métodos: Ensaio clínico randomizado, a amostra foi composta por 12 pacientes, sendo sete do Grupo Força (TFG) e cinco do Grupo Resistência Muscular (GRM). Comparou-se os níveis das citocinas IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 e TNF-α e a composição corporal na primeira e na última sessão. Os pacientes completaram 36 sessões de treinamento de força e resistência ao longo de 12 semanas. Resultados: Após 36 sessões de treinamento resistido GRM, houve um aumento significativo de 4.734 pg/mL para 5.050 pg/mL de IL-10 (p=0,002). Em relação à TFG, não foram encontrados resultados significativos. Para composição corporal, houve diferenças significativas na TFG devido ao aumento da massa magra dos braços de 6.441g para 7.014g (p=0,04), pernas de 16.379g para 17.281g (p=0,02) e corpo inteiro de 45.640g para 47.343g (p=0,01). No GRM houve diminuição significativa do percentual de gordura nos braços de 23.160% para 20.750% (p = 0,04). Para avaliação da qualidade de vida foi utilizado o questionário WHOQOL-HIV-Bref, onde foi encontrada uma melhora significativa em todos os domínios, exceto no domínio nível de independência. Ezetimibe has significant lipid-lowering activity but presents low aqueous solubility. Co-crystallization techniques can be used to overcome this limitation. However, it is not yet clear whether the solubility of the cocrystal can be maintained after oral administration. In the present study, an ezetimi-imidazole cocrystal was synthetized by the reaction crystallization method, a promising strategy in cocrystal engineering. After conducting characterization tests, we determined the solubility and thermodynamic stability of the cocrystal. Also, the solubility advantage for both water and biorelevant fasted state simulated intestinal fluid (FaSSIF) was calculated. Dissolution was determined under supersaturated conditions, and the hypolipidemic activity of the cocrystal was assessed in vivo. The cocrystal exhibited high solubility and thermodynamic stability in FaSSIF. The solubility advantage was calculated as 22.4 in water and 11.8 in FaSSIF. The dissolution of the cocrystal resulted in supersaturation levels (σmax) of 1.3 in water and 3.3 in FaSSIF and the area under the curve (AUC) increased from 478.49 (ezetimibe) to 2963.62 µg min mL-1(cocrystal) in FaSSIF. The atherogenic index of the animals that received the cocrystal was similar to that of the control group. ABSTRACT This study aimed to assess an alkaline protease supplemented in diets with and without crude protein (CP) reduction on performance, apparent total tract digestibility (ATTD), blood parameters, and carcass and meat traits in growing-finishing pigs. Forty male pigs (26.2±1.2 kg) were randomly allocated into one of five treatments: negative control (NC, 2% and 1% reduction of CP in grower and finisher phases, respectively, no protease); NC150: NC + 150 mg protease kg−1 diet; NC300: NC + 300 mg protease kg−1 diet; PC: positive control (no CP reduction and protease); and PC300: PC + 300 mg protease kg−1 diet, with eight replicates of one pig/pen. Pigs fed NC showed greater average daily feed intake (ADFI) than pigs fed NC300 or PC and lower ADFI compared to pigs fed NC150. Pigs fed PC had lower ADFI than those fed PC300. Greater average daily gain and gain to feed ratio (G:F) were observed in pigs on NC compared with those on NC300 or NC150 and NC300, respectively. Pigs fed PC showed better G:F than pigs fed PC300. Lower coefficients of ATTD (CTTAD) of dry and organic matter (OM), digestible dry matter (DDM), digestible organic matter (DOM), and digestible protein were observed in growing II pigs fed NC compared with pigs fed NC150 or NC300. Pigs fed NC showed a lower DP compared with PC or NC150. Positive control group showed increased digestible protein compared with NC. Finishing II pigs fed NC showed lower DDM, DOM, CTTAD of OM, and gross energy than pigs fed NC150 or NC300. Pigs fed PC showed greater albumin concentration compared with pigs fed PC300 in finishing II. Pigs fed NC and PC300 showed greater luminosity in the l. thoracis muscle than pigs fed PC. A greater color score was evidenced in the l. thoracis in pigs fed PC compared with pigs fed PC300. The potential of four commercial clones of unripe acerola fruit was investigated regarding a source of nutraceuticals and functional foods for industrial use. The chemical profiling of the BRS 235-Apodi, BRS 236-Cereja, BRS 237-Roxinha, and BRS 238-Frutacor clones was determined by the ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UPLC-QTOF/MS-MS) technique coupled to multivariate statistical analysis, which were then correlated to ABTS•+ radical capture (2,2’-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) assays in order to measure the antioxidant capacity. A total of 24 bioactive compounds were identified, including high amounts of quercetin-O-hexoside, astilbin, and apigenin, which were correlated to three clones (BRS 235, BRS 237, and BRS 238). On the other hand, the BRS 236 clone presented high contents of ascorbic acid, iso-ascorbic acid, citric acid, procyanidin B trimer, rutin, phenolic compounds, and antioxidant activity. These compounds were additionally found to be strongly associated with the antioxidant capacity of unripe acerola fruits. Resumo A Região Hidrográfica do Rio Paraná possui grande relevância socioeconômica para o Brasil. Devido ao histórico de secas na região, o objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar a variabilidade espacial e temporal das chuvas, bem como analisar as características das secas com base no Índice de Porcentagem Normal (IPN) de modo a contribuir com a gestão da água no Alto Rio Paraná (ARP). A área de estudo compreendeu 14 unidades hídricas de planejamento, distribuídas nos estados de Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais e São Paulo. Os dados climáticos foram obtidos junto a Rede Hidrometeorológica Nacional. Efetuou-se a análise geoestatística dos dados de precipitação, a partir das séries anuais de 408 estações, e posteriormente o cálculo do IPN para classificação da severidade das secas. Todos os períodos analisados (1990-2020) indicaram dependência espacial (moderada-alta), possibilitando a elaboração dos mapas de secas. Os períodos e áreas secas e chuvosas não indicaram influência direta do El Niño-Oscilação Sul (ENOS). Mato Grosso do Sul e São Paulo foram os maiores contribuintes nas secas. Os dados indicaram que 2010-2020 foi o decênio mais seco do período, com maior contribuição em 2019/2020, onde as secas superaram 60% da área, evento nunca identificado nas últimas 3 décadas. As curvas IPN referente a “seca inicial” e “suave” permitiram verificar anos de crise hídrica quando seus percentuais somados atingiram pelo menos 50% da bacia do ARP. Abstract The Paraná River Hydrographic Region is of great socioeconomic relevance for Brazil. Therefore, due to the history of droughts in the region, the aims of the current study were to assess rainfall spatial and temporal variability, as well as to analyze drought features based on using the Normalized Percentage Index (NPI) to contribute to water management processes in Upper Paraná River (UPR). The study area encompasses 14 Planning and Management Units, distributed in Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais and São Paulo states. Climate data were obtained from the National Hydrometeorological Network database. A geostatistical analysis of rainfall was carried out, based on the annual series of 408 stations, and subsequently the calculation of NPI for classifying the droughts severity. All periods analyzed (1990-2020) showed spatial dependence (moderate to high), allowing the elaboration of droughts maps. The dry and rainy periods and areas did not indicate direct influence of El Niño-Southern Oscillation (ENSO). Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo units were the main contributors to the identified droughts. The data showed that 2010-2020 was the driest decade of the period, with a greater contribution from the 2019/2020 period, where droughts exceeded 60% of the area for two consecutive years, an event never identified in the last 3 decades. RESUMO O míldio é umas das principais doenças foliares que acomete o meloeiro durante o período chuvoso na região Nordeste do Brasil. O silício (Si) tem se destacado como um método alternativo para o controle de patógenos tanto por constituir barreira físicas, como na ativação de mecanismos de defesa da planta. Assim, objetivou-se com este trabalho avaliar a severidade de míldio em meloeiro durante período chuvoso com aplicações foliares de Si. Durante as chuvas, nos meses de maio a julho de 2022 realizaram-se duas pulverizações de silicato de potássio (12% de Si e 15% de potássio) nas doses de 0; 0,25; 0,50; 1,0 e 2,0 L ha-1, com quatro repetições por dose. Realizaram-se avaliações da severidade do míldio em escalas de notas, índices de clorofila e fluorescência transiente da clorofila a (OJIP). A dose de 2,0 L ha-1 proporcionou melhores resultados retardando o desenvolvimento do patógeno em folhas com incidência da doença. Houve diminuição na severidade da doença de até 68,27%, além do aumento nos índices de clorofila a, b e total, em 8,21%, 13,86% e 9,72%, respectivamente. Além disso, o Si promoveu alterações benéficas nos parâmetros do teste OJIP: ABS/RC; TR0/RC; ET0/RC; ABS/CS0 e TR0/CS0. Durante períodos de alta intensidade de chuvas e temperaturas amenas, a aplicação de Si em meloeiro reduz a severidade do míldio e protege as clorofilas, resultando em maior absorção (ABS), armazenamento (TR0) e transporte de elétrons (ET0). ABSTRACT Downy mildew is one of the main foliar diseases affecting melon plants during the rainy season in the Northeast region of Brazil. Silicon (Si) application has emerged as an alternative method for pathogen control, forming physical barriers and activating defense mechanisms in plants. The objective of this study was to reduce the severity of downy mildew in melon plants during the rainy season through foliar application of Si. The treatments consisted of five rates (0, 0.25, 0.5, 1, and 2 L ha-1) of potassium silicate (12% Si and 15% potassium) applied from May to July 2022, with four replications. Disease severity was assessed using rating scales, chlorophyll contents, and transient chlorophyll a fluorescence (OJIP). The rate of 2 L ha-1 resulted in the best results by delaying pathogen development in leaves with disease incidence. Disease severity decreased to 68.27% and chlorophyll a, b, and total increased by 8.21%, 13.86%, and 9.72%, respectively. Si application resulted in beneficial changes in the following OJIP test parameters: ABS/RC, TR0/RC, ET0/RC, ABS/CS0, and TR0/CS0. During periods of high rainfall intensity and mild temperatures, Si application to melon plants reduces downy mildew severity and protects chlorophylls, enhancing the absorption flux (ABS) and electron storage (TR0) and transport (ET0). Resumo Uma lista de peixes recentes e fósseis da Ordem Characiformes é apresentada e acredita-se que a lista esteja completa até 2022. Ao todo, 47 colaboradores verificaram e forneceram informações sobre táxons de sua especialidade. A lista está organizada em ordem alfabética por família e em seguida gênero e inclui todos os sinônimos disponíveis. De um total de 3.087 nomes de grupos de espécies e 527 nomes de grupos de gêneros, 2.334 espécies são atualmente tratadas como válidas e atribuídas a 301 gêneros e 24 famílias. Este total inclui 25 espécies fósseis, das quais 21 são incluídas em oito famílias recentes e quatro são Incertae sedis em Characiformes, mas não inclui cinco espécies baseadas em fósseis que foram incorretamente consideradas como Characiformes. O status de 79 espécies nominais permanece não resolvido. Quando há duas hipóteses concorrentes sobre a validade de um nome, uma delas é escolhida e a interpretação alternativa é fornecida na seção de comentários do nome em questão. Dados sobre distribuição geográfica são apresentados através de números que correspondem a regiões para as quais há registro de ocorrência da espécie. Abstract A checklist of recent and fossil fishes of the Order Characiformes is presented herein and believed to be complete through 2022. A total of 47 collaborators checked and provided information about their taxa of expertise. The list is arranged in alphabetical order by family and then genus and includes all available synonyms. From a total of 3,087 species group names and 527 genus group names, 2,334 species are currently treated as valid, and assigned to 301 genera and 24 families. This total includes 25 species known only from the fossil record, of which 21 are assigned to eight extant families and four are Incertae sedis in Characiformes, but does not include five species based on fossil which were wrongly treated in Characiformes. The status of 79 nominal species remains unresolved. When there are two competing hypotheses about the validity of a name, one of them is chosen and the alternate interpretation is provided in the remark section of that name. Distributional summaries are presented as numbers that correspond to areas for which there is a record of occurrence of the species. Resumo O aumento da modificação dos habitats e da perda de espécies demanda esforços consistentes para descrever e compreender os padrões de biodiversidade. O programa BIOTA/FAPESP foi criado nesse contexto e é uma iniciativa de sucesso para promover estudos em biodiversidade e conservação no Brasil. O BIOTA/Araçá é um projeto interdisciplinar que promoveu uma avaliação detalhada da biodiversidade da Baía do Araçá, um ecossistema costeiro localizado ao Norte do estado de São Paulo, Sudeste do Brasil. A baía engloba múltiplos habitats, tais como praias, manguezais, costões rochosos, e uma planície de maré, e também fornece importantes serviços ecossistêmicos. Infelizmente, a baía está sujeita à conflitos sócio-ambientais complexos que contrastam demandas econômicas, sociais e ambientais (i.e. a expansão das atividades do porto vizinho vs. a pesca artesanal de pequena escala e a proteção da biodiversidade). O presente estudo apresenta um levantamento das espécies bentônicas que ocorrem nos diferentes habitats da Baía do Araçá, incluindo dados obtidos durante o projeto BIOTA/Araçá e de investigações realizadas anteriormente na área. As espécies bentônicas desempenham um papel importante no ambiente marinho, e estudar a diversidade desses organismos que vivem associados ao fundo é indispensável para compreender o funcionamento do meio ambiente. A macrofauna, meiofauna, e microorganismos associados aos fundos consolidado e inconsolidado foram listados, e informações adicionais foram fornecidas para cada espécie, tais como a distribuição geográfica e nos habitats. O checklist inclui 826 espécies, quase 70% registradas durante o projeto BIOTA/Araçá. Os taxa mais especiosos foram os anelídeos (225 spp.), moluscos (194 spp.), e crustáceos (177 spp.). Entre as espécies bentônicas listadas, sete são endêmicas da Baía do Araçá, 14 são consideradas ameaçadas de extinção, e sete são exploradas economicamente. A baía é a localidade tipo de vários taxa, e 11 novas espécies bentônicas foram descritas com base em espécimes amostrados durante o projeto. Abstract Increasing habitat modification and species loss demand consistent efforts to describe and understand biodiversity patterns. The BIOTA/FAPESP Program was created in this context and it has been a successful initiative to promote studies on biodiversity and conservation in Brazil. The BIOTA/Araçá is an interdisciplinary project that provided a detailed evaluation of the biodiversity of Araçá Bay, a coastal seascape located on the North coast of the state of São Paulo, Southeast Brazil. The bay encompasses multiple habitats, such as beaches, mangroves, rocky shores, and a tidal flat, and provides important ecosystem services. Unfortunately, the bay is the subject of complex social-environmental conflicts that oppose economic, social, and environmental demands (i.e., the expansion of neighboring harbor activities vs. small-scale artisanal fisheries and protection of biodiversity). The present study presents a survey of the benthic species occurring in the different habitats of Araçá Bay, including data obtained during the BIOTA/Araçá project and previous assessments of the area. The benthic species play an important role in marine environments and studying the diversity of these organisms that live associated with the bottom is indispensable for comprehending the environment’s functioning. The macrofauna, meiofauna, and microorganisms associated with soft and hard bottom were listed, and additional information, such as the habitat and geographical distribution, were provided for each species. The checklist includes 826 species, almost 70% recorded during the BIOTA/Araçá project. The most speciose taxa were the annelids (225 spp.), mollusks (194 spp.), and crustaceans (177 spp.). Seven benthic species are endemic to Araçá Bay, 14 are considered threatened, and seven are economically exploited. Furthermore, the bay is the type locality of many taxa, and 11 new benthic species were described based on specimens sampled during the project. ABSTRACT Considering the spectral differences between broadleaf weeds and narrow-leaf crops and the influence of terrain and soil variables on weed infestations, integrating such information into a machine-learning algorithm can lead to accurate weed maps. Therefore, we aim to evaluate the effectiveness of these variables in classifying the occurrence of broadleaf weeds in narrow-leaf crops. Weed data was collected at georeferenced points across two areas covering 200 ha (pasture) and 106 ha (sorghum), creating classes 0 (absence) and 1 (presence). For each sample point, we obtained 11 variables: soil clay content, cation exchange capacity, soil organic matter, terrain elevation, slope, NDVI, EVI, CIgreen, BGND (derived from PlanetScope images), and spatial information (X and Y coordinates). These variables were used as predictors of broadleaf weed presence and absence in the Random Forest classification algorithm. The presence and absence of broadleaf weeds were correctly classified in 84% and 74% of all predictions in the test sample sets for pasture and sorghum areas, respectively.
