ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Studies have shown an association between the clinical severity of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) and sociodemographic and clinical variables in older adults. However, few studies have described the explanatory factors of the relationship between these variables and the clinical severity of COVID-19 using structural equation modeling. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the factors directly and indirectly associated with the clinical severity of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) among older adults in Minas Gerais, Brazil. DESIGN AND SETTING: Retrospective epidemiological study. METHODS: This study included 51,141 elderly adults with COVID-19 living in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Data were collected through the Individual Registration Form – Hospitalized Cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome from January 28, 2020, to January 27, 2022. RESULTS: Older age (P < 0.001), male sex (P < 0.001), dyspnea (P < 0.001), change in chest X-ray examination findings (P < 0.001), greater number of risk factors/comorbidities (P < 0.001), and longer hospitalization time (P < 0.001) were directly associated with the clinical severity of COVID-19. Female sex, mediated by the greater number of risk/comorbidity factors (β = -0.02, P < 0.001), and younger age, mediated by longer hospitalization time (β = -0.01; P < 0.001), were indirectly associated with the clinical severity of COVID-19. CONCLUSION: Demographic and clinical variables were directly associated with increased disease severity. In addition to the direct effect, a greater number of risk/comorbidity factors and longer hospitalization time mediated the association between demographic variables and outcomes. Material and Methods: 179 participants answered an anamnesis with twenty questions about the presence or absence of habits associated with NCCL. The participants' teeth were evaluated to identify the presence or absence of the lesion, its classification, involved surfaces, severity, hypersensitivity, and tooth wear index. A hypersensitivity test was performed with ice water. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test and simple logistic regression (p<0.01). ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Although studies have examined the relationship between variables associated with active aging and quality of life (QoL), no studies have been identified to have investigated the effect of a structural model of active aging on QoL in a representative sample of older people in the community. OBJECTIVE: To measure the domains and facets of QoL in older people and identify the effect of the structural model of active aging on the self-assessment of QoL. DESIGN AND SETTING: This cross-sectional analytical study included 957 older people living in urban areas. Data were collected from households using validated instruments between March and June 2018. Descriptive, confirmatory factor, and structural equation modeling analyses were performed. RESULTS: Most older people self-rated their QoL as good (58.7%), and the highest mean scores were for the social relationships domain (70.12 ± 15.4) and the death and dying facet (75.43 ± 26.7). In contrast, the lowest mean scores were for the physical domains (64.41 ± 17.1) and social participation (67.20 ± 16.2) facets. It was found that active aging explained 50% of the variation in self-assessed QoL and directly and positively affected this outcome (λ = 0.70; P < 0.001). CONCLUSION: Active aging had a direct and positive effect on the self-assessment of QoL, indicating that the more individuals actively aged, the better the self-assessment of QoL. Resumo Objetivo Analisar a capacidade intrínseca e sua capacidade preditiva sobre a mortalidade por todas as causas em pessoas idosas residentes em uma microrregião de saúde de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Método Estudo tipo inquérito domiciliar, de abordagem quantitativa. Os dados foram coletados no domicílio com instrumentos validados no país. Abstract Objective To analyze intrinsic capacity and its ability to predict all-cause mortality in older adults living in a health microregion of Minas Gerais state, Brazil. Method A household survey study with a quantitative approach was conducted. Data were collected at homes using instruments validated for use in Brazil. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Increased longevity is accompanied by new social and health demands, such as the race/color social construct, indicating the need to identify the specific needs of older adults to maintain and improve their quality of life. OBJECTIVE: We aimed to verify the direct and indirect associations of demographic, economic, and biopsychosocial characteristics with self-assessed quality of life in older adults according to race/color. DESIGN AND SETTING: This cross-sectional study included 941 older adults living in the urban area of a health microregion in Minas Gerais, Brazil. METHODS: Older adults were divided into three groups: white (n = 585), brown (n = 238), and black (n = 102) race/color. Descriptive and trajectory analyses were performed (P < 0.05). RESULTS: Among the three groups, worse self-assessed quality of life was directly associated with lower social support scores and greater numbers of depressive symptoms. Worse self-assessed quality of life was also directly associated with a higher number of functional disabilities in basic activities of daily living and the absence of a partner among older adults of brown and black race/color. Lower monthly income and higher numbers of morbidities and compromised components of the frailty phenotype were observed among participants of white race/color, as well as lower levels of education in the brown race/color group. CONCLUSION: Factors associated with poorer self-assessed quality of life among older adults in the study community differed according to race/color.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Obesity is a risk factor for falls in older adults, but the effects of body fat distribution and its interaction with other factors are not well established. OBJECTIVES: To verify the occurrence of falls among older adults with and without abdominal obesity and the effects of sociodemographic, health, and behavioral variables on this outcome. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional study in an urban area of Alcobaça, Brazil. METHODS: Men and women older than 60 years with (270) and without (184) abdominal obesity were included. Sociodemographic, health, and behavioral data were collected using validated questionnaires in Brazil. Descriptive and path analyses were performed (P < 0.05). RESULTS: The occurrence of falls was high in participants with abdominal obesity (33.0%). In both groups, a higher number of morbidities (β = 0.25, P < 0.001; β = 0.26, P = 0.002) was directly associated with a higher occurrence of falls. Among participants without abdominal obesity, a lower number of medications (β = -0.16; P = 0.04), a higher number of depressive symptoms (β = 0.15; P = 0.04), worse performance on the agility and dynamic balance tests (β = 0.37; P < 0.001), and lower functional disability for basic activities of daily living (β = -0.21; P = 0.006) were directly associated with the occurrence of falls. CONCLUSION: Adults older than 60 years with abdominal obesity have a higher prevalence of falls. Different factors were associated with the occurrence of falls in both groups.

Resumo Objetivo caracterizar as internações por covid-19, no período de março de 2020 a março de 2022, entre pessoas idosas residentes em Minas Gerais, Brasil, segundo distribuição geográfica, dados sociodemográficos, clínicos e epidemiológicos e de atendimento. Método estudo quantitativo e descritivo realizado com dados sociodemográficos, clínicos, epidemiológicos e de atendimento, do Banco de Dados de Síndrome Respiratória Aguda Grave - incluindo dados da covid-19. Foram consideradas 102.029 internações por covid-19 em pessoas idosas Resultados em 196 dos 853 municípios de Minas Gerais, a incidência foi elevada (3.098 a 8.916 casos por 100.000 habitantes). Houve predomínio de internações em pessoas idosas do sexo masculino (50,7%), entre 60├70 anos (39,0%), pardas (41,6%), com 1ª a 5ª série (17,6%) e que apresentavam fatores de risco/comorbidade (54,0%), dispneia e saturação de oxigênio <95% (72,8%, cada). Referente aos dados de atendimento, uma parcela necessitou de internação em UTI (34,0%), suporte ventilatório não invasivo (54,1%) e apresentou Raio-X com infiltrado intersticial (20,4%). Embora a cura tenha sido o desfecho mais frequente (55,6%), destaca-se que 41,8% das pessoas idosas foram a óbito. Abstract Objective To characterize hospitalizations for covid-19 among aged individuals residing in Minas Gerais, Brazil, from March 2020 to March 2022, with a focus on geographical distribution, sociodemographic, clinical, epidemiological, and care data. Method This quantitative and descriptive study used sociodemographic, clinical, epidemiological, and care data from the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Database, including covid-19-related data. A total of 102,029 hospitalizations of aged individuals for covid-19 were analyzed for descriptive purposes and mapping the incidence by municipality and macro-region. Results High incidence was observed in 196 of the 853 municipalities in Minas Gerais, ranging from 3,098 to 8,916 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Hospitalizations were predominantly male (50.7%), aged 60-70 years (39.0%), of mixed race (41.6%), with 1st to 5th grade education (17.6%), and presenting risk factors or comorbidities (54.0%). Common symptoms included dyspnea and oxygen saturation below 95% (72.8% each). Regarding care data, a portion of patients required intensive care unit admission (34.0%), non-invasive ventilatory support (54.1%), and presented interstitial infiltrates in chest X-rays (20.4%). Although most cases resulted in recovery (55.6%), it is noteworthy that 41.8% of hospitalized aged individuals died. Conclusion This study highlights the existence of areas in Minas Gerais with a higher incidence of covid-19 cases that require ongoing monitoring, with a focus on the care of subgroups of aged individuals who are male, younger, of mixed race, have lower educational attainment, and have risk factors or comorbidities. RESUMO Objetivos: analisar os fatores associados, direta e indiretamente, ao menor apoio social de idosos, segundo o sexo. Métodos: estudo transversal, com 941 idosos de uma microrregião de saúde de Minas Gerais. Realizaram-se análises descritiva e de trajetórias (p<0,05). Resultados: observaram-se, nos grupos de mulheres e homens, associações diretas e significativas entre menor rede social (p<0,001;p<0,001), moradia unipessoal (p=0,046;p<0,001), maior número de sintomas depressivos (p<0,001;p=0,010) e menor participação nas atividades avançadas (p<0,001;p=0,005) com menor apoio social, respectivamente. Nas mulheres, a menor idade se associou direta e significativamente ao desfecho (p<0,001). Nos homens, a maior idade, mediada pela menor participação nas atividades avançadas, associou-se indiretamente ao desfecho. Conclusões: os homens e mulheres apresentaram menor apoio social associado à rede social, arranjo de moradia, sintomatologia depressiva e participação nas atividades avançadas. A compreensão do contexto do apoio social entre idosos possibilita o estabelecimento de medidas mais eficazes na melhoria do cuidado.

Resumo Objetivo identificar as condições de fragilidade e seus fatores associados entre pessoas idosas longevas residentes na área urbana de uma macrorregião de saúde de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Métodos estudo transversal, desenvolvido com 314 pessoas idosas longevas residentes em uma macrorregião de saúde de Minas Gerais. Os dados foram coletados nos domicílios mediante a aplicação de instrumentos validados no Brasil. Procederam-se as análises descritiva e regressão logística multinomial (p<0,05). Resultados verificou-se que 44,3% do longevos eram frágeis, 44,3% pré-frágeis e 11,4% não frágeis. A condição de pré-fragilidade associou-se ao fato de morar só (p=0,047) e ao desempenho físico muito ruim/baixo (p=0,026), enquanto a fragilidade, ao desempenho físico muito ruim/baixo (p<0,001); ao indicativo de sintomas depressivos (p=0,029) e à presença de 5 ou mais morbidades (p=0,003). Conclusão as condições de pré-fragilidade e fragilidade foram as mais frequentes entre os longevos. Abstract Objective to identify frailty conditions and their associated factors among oldest old individuals living in the urban area of a health macro-region of Minas Gerais state. Methods a cross-sectional study of 314 oldest old from a health macro-region in Minas Gerais state, Brazil, was conducted. Data were collected from households by applying instruments validated for use in Brazil. Descriptive and multinomial logistic regression analyses (p<0.05) were carried out. Results In the sample assessed, 44.3% of the oldest old were frail, 44.3% pre-frail and 11.4% non-frail. The pre-frail condition was associated with living alone (p=0.047) and very poor/poor physical performance (p=0.026), while frailty was associated with very poor/poor physical performance (p<0.001), the presence of depressive symptomatology (p=0.029) and of ≥5 morbidities (p=0.003). Método: a cross-sectional study conducted with 119 aged individuals who live alone in the Macro-region of Triângulo Sul, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The data were collected at the homes and with instruments validated in the country. Descriptive and multiple binary regression analyses were performed (p<0.05). Resultados: 97.5% had a social support network for health needs and for maintaining social distancing (79.8%). The activity most frequently performed was household chores (77.3%). The presence of negative feelings was associated with the female gender (p<0.001) and with fewer activities (p=0.012). Conclusão: the data contribute to the development of health actions, revealing situations in the daily life of aged individuals that are exacerbated during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as aspects related to the negative feelings experienced by aged individuals who live alone.

ABSTRACT Objective: to identify the sociodemographic profile of interpersonal violence associated with alcohol consumption in São Paulo-SP, Brazil. Method: a cross-sectional study carried out through notifications of suspected or confirmed cases of interpersonal violence from the Notifiable Diseases Information System submitted between 2016 and 2019. Collection took place between March and June 2020. Chi-square or Fisher’s exact tests were performed in the statistical analysis. Results: 27,775 notifications were obtained, whose prevalent profile was female victims (60.6%), aged between 20 and 34 years old (41.4%), brown- or black-skinned (51%), and with complete high school (18.8%). Physical violence was more frequent (81.9%), perpetrated by an intimate partner (20.3%), motivated by sexism (9.9%) and generational conflict (11.2%). In sexual violence, rape prevailed with 69.4% and there was a low supply of emergency contraception methods (14.7%). Conclusion: the study contributes to reflections and subsidies in the planning of public policies to control the problem.

RESUMEN Objetivo: analizar la red de apoyo social, las actividades realizadas y los factores asociados a la presencia de sentimientos negativos de ancianos que viven solos durante el distanciamiento social debido al COVID-19. Método: estudio transversal realizado con 119 ancianos que viven solos en la Macro-región de Triângulo Sul, Minas Gerais, Brasil. Los datos se recolectaron en los domicilios y con instrumentos validados en el país. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos y de regresión binaria múltiple (p<0,05). Resultados: El 97,5% contaba con una red de apoyo social para necesidades de salud y para mantener el distanciamiento social (79.8%). La actividad más frecuente fue la de tareas domésticas (77,3%). La presencia de sentimientos negativos se asoció al sexo femenino (p<0,001) y a una menor cantidad de actividades realizadas (p=0,012). Conclusión: los datos contribuyen en la elaboración de acciones de salud, evidenciando situaciones en la vida diaria de los ancianos que se vieron agravadas durante la pandemia de COVID-19, como ser los aspectos relacionados a los sentimientos negativos experimentados por los ancianos que viven solos.

Resumo Objetivo analisar a associação da cor da pele/raça autorreferida com indicadores biopsicossociais de idosos. Método estudo transversal conduzido com 941 idosos de uma comunidade na microrregião de saúde no Brasil. Os dados foram coletados no domicílio e com instrumentos validados no país. Procedeu-se à análise descritiva e regressão logística binária, multinomial e linear (p<0,05). Resultados a autodeclaração de cor/raça branca predominou entre os idosos (63,8%). A cor/raça preta foi fator de proteção para a autoavaliação da saúde péssima/má (OR=0,40) e regular (OR=0,44) e para o indicativo de sintomas depressivos (OR=0,43); e associou-se ao maior escore de apoio social (β=3,60) e ao menor número de morbidades (β=-0,78). Conclusão os achados denotam que, independentemente de características sociodemográficas e econômicas, os idosos da cor/raça preta apresentaram os melhores desfechos dos indicadores biopsicossociais.

Abstract Objective to analyze the association of self-reported skin color/race with biopsychosocial indicators in older adults. Method cross-sectional study conducted with a total of 941 older adults from a health micro-region in Brazil. Data were collected at home with instruments validated for the country. Descriptive analysis and binary, multinomial and linear logistic regression (p<0.05) were performed. Results Most older adults were self-declared white color/race (63.8%). Black color/race was a protective factor for negative (OR=0.40) and regular (OR=0.44) self-rated health perception and for the indicative of depressive symptoms (OR=0.43); and it was associated with the highest social support score (β=3.60) and the lowest number of morbidities (β=-0.78). Conclusion regardless of sociodemographic and economic characteristics, older adults of black color/race had the best outcomes of biopsychosocial indicators.

Resumen Objetivo analizar la asociación del color de piel/raza autoinformado con indicadores biopsicosociales de personas mayores. Método estudio transversal realizado con 941 adultos mayores de una comunidad en una microrregión de salud en Brasil. Los datos fueron recolectados en residencia y con instrumentos validados en el país. Se realizó análisis descriptivo y regresión logística binaria, multinomial y lineal (p<0,05). Resultados la autodeclaración de color/raza blanca predominó entre los adultos mayores (63,8%). El color/raza negra fue un factor de protección para la autoevaluación de la salud mala (OR=0,40) y regular (OR=0,44) y para el indicativo de síntomas depresivos (OR=0,43); y se asoció con el puntaje más alto de apoyo social (β=3,60) y el menor número de morbilidades (β=-0,78). Conclusión los hallazgos muestran que, independientemente de las características sociodemográficas y económicas, las personas mayores de color/raza negra tuvieron los mejores resultados de los indicadores biopsicosociales.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Obesity is a risk factor for falls in older adults, but the effects of body fat distribution and its interaction with other factors are not well established. OBJECTIVES: To verify the occurrence of falls among older adults with and without abdominal obesity and the effects of sociodemographic, health, and behavioral variables on this outcome. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional study in an urban area of Alcobaça, Brazil. METHODS: Men and women older than 60 years with (270) and without (184) abdominal obesity were included. Sociodemographic, health, and behavioral data were collected using validated questionnaires in Brazil. Descriptive and path analyses were performed (P < 0.05). RESULTS: The occurrence of falls was high in participants with abdominal obesity (33.0%). In both groups, a higher number of morbidities (β = 0.25, P < 0.001; β = 0.26, P = 0.002) was directly associated with a higher occurrence of falls. Among participants without abdominal obesity, a lower number of medications (β = -0.16; P = 0.04), a higher number of depressive symptoms (β = 0.15; P = 0.04), worse performance on the agility and dynamic balance tests (β = 0.37; P < 0.001), and lower functional disability for basic activities of daily living (β = -0.21; P = 0.006) were directly associated with the occurrence of falls. CONCLUSION: Adults older than 60 years with abdominal obesity have a higher prevalence of falls. Different factors were associated with the occurrence of falls in both groups.

RESUMO Objetivo: Descrever as caracteristicas sociodemograficas, a capacidade funcional e a situacao vacinal de idosos, e verificar os fatores associados a situacao vacinal incompleta e a ausencia do cartao de vacinas. Método: Estudo transversal e analitico conduzido com idosos residentes na zona urbana de Uberaba (MG). Procedeu-se as analises descritiva, bivariada e regressao logistica multinomial (p<0,05). Resultados: Participaram 576 idosos. Predominaram os idosos do sexo feminino, na faixa etaria de 70├80 anos, com companheiro, baixa escolaridade e renda, que moravam acompanhados, independentes nas atividades basicas da vida diaria e com dependencia parcial nas atividades instrumentais. O maior percentual foi para os idosos que possuiam situacao vacinal incompleta, sobretudo em relacao a ausencia da imunizacao para Hepatite B. Foram associados a situacao vacinal incompleta a renda individual mensal ≤ 1 salario minimo (p=0,002) e o arranjo de moradia unipessoal (p=0,010); e a ausencia do cartao de vacinas, a menor escolaridade (p=0,039). Conclusão: As baixas renda e escolaridade, bem como residir sozinho, sao fatores associados as situacoes vacinais inadequadas dos idosos da comunidade. Ressalta-se a necessidade de que o enfermeiro da atencao primaria desenvolva estrategias para aumentar a cobertura vacinal entre os idosos com essas caracteristicas.

ABSTRACT Objective: To describe the sociodemographic characteristics, functional capacity and vaccination status of older adults, and to verify the factors associated with the incomplete vaccination status and the absence of the vaccination card. Method: Cross-sectional and analytical study conducted with older adults living in the city of Uberaba (MG). The following analyzes were carried out: descriptive, bivariate and multinomial logistic regression (p<0.05). Results: A total of 576 older adults participated. Most of them were women, in the 70-80 age group, with partner, low education and income, living with someone, independent in basic activities of daily living and with partial dependence on instrumental activities. The highest percentage was for older adults who had incomplete vaccination status, especially regarding the absence of immunization for Hepatitis B. Individual monthly income < 1 minimum wage (p=0.002) and single-person housing arrangement (p=0.010) were associated with the incomplete vaccination status, and the absence of the vaccination card, with the lowest level of education (p=0.039). Conclusion: Low income and education, as well as living alone, are factors associated with inadequate vaccination status among older adults in the community. The need for primary care nurses to develop strategies to increase vaccination coverage among older adults with these characteristics is emphasized.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Describir las caracteristicas sociodemograficas, la capacidad funcional y la situacion vacunal de los adultos mayores y comprobar los factores asociados con la situacion vacunal incompleta y la ausencia del carnet de vacunacion. Método: Se trata de un estudio transversal y analitico llevado a cabo con adultos mayores residentes en el area urbana de Uberaba, Minas Gerais, mediante un analisis descriptivo, bivariado y de regresion logistica multinomial (p<0,05). Resultados: Participaron 576 adultos mayores. Predominaban las mujeres de edad avanzada, 70├80 anos, con pareja, bajo nivel de escolaridad e ingresos, que vivian solas, independientes en las actividades basicas de la vida diaria y parcialmente dependientes de las actividades instrumentales. El porcentaje mas alto correspondia a los adultos mayores que tenian un estado de vacunacion incompleto, especialmente en lo que respecta a la ausencia de inmunizacion contra la hepatitis B. Los ingresos mensuales individuales ≤ 1 salario minimo (p=0,002) y la disposicion de una vivienda unifamiliar (p=0,010) estaban asociados con el estado de vacunacion incompleta, y la ausencia del carnet de vacunacion, con un nivel de escolaridad bajo (p=0,039). Conclusión: Los ingresos bajos y la educacion, asi como el hecho de vivir solo, son factores que estan asociados a un estado de vacunacion inadecuado en adultos mayores de la comunidad. Es importante que el enfermero de atencion primaria desarrolle estrategias para aumentar la cobertura de vacunacion entre los adultos mayores con dichas caracteristicas.

Objetivo: analisar a incapacidade funcional e seus fatores associados entre idosos na comunidade. Método: estudo transversal, com 1.635 idosos distribuídos nas faixas etárias: 60 a 69, 70 a 79 e 80 ou mais, residentes em uma macrorregião de saúde do Estado de Minas Gerais. Procedeu-se à análise descritiva e de trajetórias (p<0,05). Os parâmetros foram estimados pelo método da Máxima Verossimilhança. Resultados: o maior percentual era do sexo feminino, com renda mensal de 1 salário mínimo e morava acompanhado. Nas faixas etárias de 60 a 69 e 70 a 79 anos predominaram os idosos com companheiro, e entre aqueles com 80 anos ou mais os viúvos. Nos três grupos, a incapacidade funcional se deu de forma hierárquica. A menor escolaridade, a fragilidade e a sintomatologia depressiva foram fatores associados diretamente à incapacidade funcional nas atividades avançadas; a fragilidade e o comportamento sedentário associaram-se diretamente à incapacidade funcional nas atividades instrumentais. Nos idosos com idade entre 60 e 69 anos e 70 a 79 anos, o comportamento sedentário associou-se à maior dependência nas atividades básicas. Conclusão: a compreensão ampliada dos fatores atuantes na incapacidade funcional dos idosos, segundo faixa etária, auxilia o profissional de saúde no desenvolvimento de medidas preventivas desse agravo.

Objective: to analyze functional disability and its associated factors among community-dwelling older adults. Method: a cross-sectional study, conducted with 1,635 older adults distributed in the following age groups: 60 to 69, 70 to 79, and 80 years old or more, living in a health macro-region of the state of Minas Gerais. Descriptive and trajectory analysis was carried out (p<0.05). The parameters were estimated by the Maximum Likelihood method. Results: the highest percentage was female, with a monthly income of 1 minimum wage and living with a companion. In the age groups from 60 to 69 and from 70 to 79 years old, older adults with a partner predominated; and, among those aged 80 years old or more, widowed individuals prevailed. In the three groups, functional disability occurred hierarchically. Lower schooling, frailty and depressive symptomatology were factors directly associated with functional disability in the advanced activities; frailty and sedentary behavior were directly associated with functional disability in the instrumental activities. In the older adults aged between 60 and 69 years old and from 70 to 79 years old, sedentary behavior was associated with greater dependence on the basic activities. Conclusion: the expanded understanding of the factors in the functional disability of the older adults, according to age group, helps the health professional in the development of preventive measures for this disease.

Objetivo: analizar la incapacidad funcional y sus factores asociados entre adultos mayores de la comunidad. Método: estudio transversal, con 1.635 adultos mayores distribuidos en rangos etarios: 60 a 69, 70 a 79 y 80 o más, residentes en una macrorregión de salud del Estado de Minas Gerais. Se realizó análisis descriptivo y de trayectoria (p<0,05). Los parámetros se estimaron mediante el método de máxima verosimilitud. Resultados: el mayor porcentaje fue de sexo femenino, con un ingreso mensual de 1 salario mínimo y vivía acompañado. En los rangos etarios de 60 a 69 y de 70 a 79 años predominaron los adultos mayores con pareja, y entre los de 80 años o más, los viudos. En los tres grupos, la incapacidad funcional se presentó de forma jerárquica. Menor educación, fragilidad y síntomas de depresión fueron factores directamente asociados con la incapacidad funcional en actividades avanzadas; la fragilidad y el sedentarismo se asociaron directamente con la incapacidad funcional en las actividades instrumentales. En los adultos mayores de 60 y 69 años y de 70 a 79 años, el sedentarismo se asoció con una mayor dependencia de las actividades básicas. Conclusión: una mayor comprensión de los factores que influyen en la incapacidad funcional del adulto mayor, según el rango etario, ayuda a los profesionales de la salud en el desarrollo de medidas preventivas de esta enfermedad.

RESUMO Objetivos: verificar o acesso e a utilização dos serviços de saúde de idosos comunitários e os fatores associados à utilização dos serviços de saúde. Métodos: estudo transversal, com 1.611 idosos da macrorregião de saúde de Minas Gerais. Os dados foram coletados de março de 2017 a junho de 2018 por meio de instrumentos validados. Procederam-se as análises descritiva e regressão logística múltipla (p<0,05). Resultados: 83,8% procuraram o mesmo serviço ou profissional de saúde; nas duas últimas semanas anteriores à entrevista (20%); consultaram o médico nos últimos 12 meses (87,3%); usavam medicamentos (87,8%); foram ao dentista pela última vez há três anos ou mais (57,7%). A utilização dos serviços de saúde associou-se à condição de pré-fragilidade/fragilidade (p=0,026) e à autopercepção de saúde negativa (p=0,037). Conclusão: os dados denotam a necessidade de ações em saúde para atender às demandas do idoso fragilizado e com autopercepção negativa da saúde.

ABSTRACT Objectives to verify access and use of the health services by community older adults and the factors associated to the use of the health services. Methods: a cross-sectional study, conducted with 1,611 older adults living in the health macro-region of Minas Gerais. Data was collected from March 2017 to June 2018 by means of validated instruments. Descriptive analyses and multiple logistic regression were performed (p<0.05). Results: 83.8% sought the same service or health professional; in the last two weeks prior to the interview (20%); had a medical consultation in the last 12 months (87.3%); used medications (87.8%); went to the dentist for the last time three years ago or more (57.7%). The use of the health services was associated with the pre-frail/frail condition (p=0.026) and with the negative self-perception of health (p=0.037). Conclusion: the data denote the need for action in health to meet the demands of the frail older adult with a negative self-perception of health.

RESUMEN: Objetivos: verificar el acceso y el uso de los servicios de salud por parte de personas de edad avanzada de la comunidad y los factores asociados a dicho uso. Métodos: estudio transversal, realizado con 1.611 personas de edad avanzada de la macro-región de salud de Minas Gerais. Los datos se recolectaron entre marzo de 2017 y junio de 2018 por medio de instrumentos validados. Se realizaron los análisis descriptivo y de regresión logística múltiple (p<0,05). Resultados: el 83,8% procuró el mismo servicio o profesional de salud; en las dos últimas semanas anteriores a la entrevista (20%); consultaron al médico en los últimos 12 meses (87,3%); consumían medicamentos (87,8%); y fueron al dentista por última vez hace al menos tres (57,7%). El uso de los servicios de salud se asoció a la condición de pre-fragilidad/ fragilidad (p=0,026) y a la autopercepción negativa de la salud (p=0,037). Conclusión: los datos denotan la necesidad de acciones en salud para responder a las demandas de la persona de edad avanzada en condición de fragilidad y con autopercepción negativa de su salud.
