RESUMO: O uso de métodos não destrutivos e de baixo custo para determinação de área foliar tem ganhado importantes aplicações. Os objetivos da pesquisa foram (i) propor um método não destrutivo para estimar a área foliar da cultura da mamona e (ii) construir equações que estimem com precisão e rapidez a área foliar da espécie. Foram coletadas mil folhas sadias e expandidas de cinco cultivares de mamona (New Zealand Purple, Sipeal, Carmencita, Amarelo de Irecê e IAC-80), sendo coletadas 200 folhas de cada uma. O comprimento máximo, largura máxima e área foliar foram calculados para cada folha. Foi calculado o produto entre comprimento e largura (LW). Foram realizados testes com diferentes modelos de regressão linear e não linear entre área foliar e dimensões lineares das folhas de cada cultivar. Os modelos utilizados foram linear, linear sem intercepto e potência. Os critérios para escolha dos melhores modelos para estimar a área foliar da mamona foram maior coeficiente de determinação, maior coeficiente de correlação linear de Pearson, menor critério de informação de Akaike, maior índice de concordância de Willmott e menor raiz do erro quadrático médio. As equações que apresentaram melhores critérios para estimativa da área foliar das cultivares de mamona foram aquelas que utilizaram o produto entre comprimento e largura, em comparação às equações que utilizaram apenas uma dimensão foliar. ABSTRACT: Using non-destructive and low-cost methods to determine leaf area has gained important applications. The research objectives were (i) to propose a non-destructive method to estimate the leaf area of castor bean crops and (ii) to build equations that accurately and quickly estimate the leaf area of specie. One thousand healthy and expanded leaves of five castor bean cultivars (New Zealand Purple, Sipeal, Carmencita, Amarelo de Irecê, and IAC-80) were collected, and 200 leaves were collected from each. The maximum length, maximum width, and leaf area were calculated for each leaf. The product between length and width (LW) were calculated. We performed tests with different linear and non-linear regression models between leaf area and linear leaf dimensions of each cultivar. The models used were linear, linear without intercept, and power. The criteria for choosing the best models to estimate the leaf area of castor beans were a higher coefficient of determination, more elevated Pearson’s linear correlation coefficient, lower Akaike information criterion, higher Willmott agreement index, and smallest root mean square error. The equations that presented the best criteria for estimating the leaf area of castor bean cultivars were those that used the product between length and width, compared to equations that used only one leaf dimension. RESUMO: O lúpulo (Humulus lupulus L.) possui grande importância econômica no planalto serrano do estado de Santa Catarina, uma vez que existem inúmeras cervejarias nesta região do Brasil. Como as cultivares disponíveis no país carecem de bons atributos qualitativos e apresentam baixa produtividade de cones, existe grande demanda por genótipos melhorados. Os resultados de experimentos de cruzamento dialélico aumentam a compreensão dos processos de herança e dos mecanismos de controle associados à transferência de alelos com ação aditiva ou não aditiva, permitindo assim que os geneticistas explorem os benefícios da heterose. Os objetivos deste estudo foram avaliar as capacidades de combinação geral e específica (CGC e CEC, respectivamente) de quatro genótipos de lúpulo e obter híbridos F1 com características agronômicas superiores às dos genitores e habilidade para se adaptar às condições ambientais do planalto catarinense. Os cruzamentos dialélicos parciais foram realizados em delineamento de blocos casualizados envolvendo 14 tratamentos, i.e. dois genitores masculinos (Cascade e Hallertauer), quatro genitores femininos (Columbus, Chinook, Cascade e Hallertauer) e oito combinações híbridas, com três repetições cada. Os resultados mostraram que a CEC dos genitores foi o mecanismo de controle predominante para a manifestação nos híbridos das características comprimento do ramo lateral, altura de inserção do primeiro cone, massa verde da planta e produtividade de cones. Algumas combinações entre genitores também manifestaram CGC elevada, indicando a presença de alelos favoráveis com ação aditiva. ABSTRACT: Hops (Humulus lupulus L.) are of particular economic importance in the highlands of the state of Santa Catarina, Brazil, by virtue of the number of breweries in the region. However, since the cultivars currently available in the country present poor qualitative attributes and low cone productivity, there is considerable demand for improved genotypes. The results of diallel crossing experiments help to increase our understanding of inheritance processes and the mechanisms controlling the transfer of alleles with additive or non-additive action, thereby allowing breeders to explore the benefits of heterosis. The present study evaluated the general and specific combining abilities (GCA and SCA, respectively) of four hop genotypes and to obtain F1 hybrids with agronomic traits superior to those of the parents and the ability to adapt to the environmental conditions in the Santa Catarina highlands. Partial diallel crosses were performed using a randomized complete block design involving 14 treatments, namely two male parents (Cascade and Hallertauer), four female parents (Columbus, Chinook, Cascade and Hallertauer) and eight hybrid combinations, with three repetitions each. The results showed that SCA was the predominant controlling mechanism for the manifestation in hybrids of the traits length of the lateral branch, height of insertion of the first cone, plant green mass and cone productivity. Some parental combinations also exhibited high GCA, indicating the presence of favorable alleles with additive action. The best combination was Hallertauer × Cascade, a finding that highlights the importance of choosing parents from different gene pools (American × European) to obtain genetically enhanced hybrids. Resumen Este estudio investiga la influencia de los grupos minoritarios -la presencia de mujeres en juntas directivas- en la divulgación de información sobre Responsabilidad Social Corporativa (RSC) relacionada con el género. Se recopilaron datos de 1.863 empresas de 52 países para el período 2010-2022. Utilizando las regresiones agrupadas de OLS, se encontró que la presencia de mujeres en porcentajes satisfactorios, i.e., grupos equilibrados e inclinados, afecta positivamente la divulgación de la RSC relacionada con el género; sin embargo, en grupos con un porcentaje bajo, i.e., grupos uniformes y sesgados, influye negativamente. Este estudio contribuye al tema discutiendo la importancia de la presencia de grupos minoritarios en las juntas directivas basado en el tokenismo; además, apoya la mejora de las políticas públicas que promuevan la igualdad de género en dichas juntas.

Abstract This study investigates the influence of minority groups -the presence of women on corporate boards- on the disclosure of gender-related Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) information. Data from 1,863 companies from 52 countries were collected for the period 2010-2022. Using the Pooled OLS regressions, it was found that the presence of women in satisfactory percentages, i.e., balanced and inclined groups, positively affects the disclosure of gender-related CSR; however, in groups with a low percentage, i.e., uniform and skewed groups, it negatively influences such disclosure. This study contributes to the topic by discussing the importance of minority group's presence on corporate boards, drawing on Tokenism. Additionally, it supports the improvement of public policies that promote gender equality on boards.

Resumo O estudo investiga a influência dos grupos minoritários, relacionados à presença feminina no Conselho de Administração, sobre a divulgação de informações de Responsabilidade Social Corporativa (RSC) relacionadas ao gênero. Coletaram-se dados de 1.863 empresas de 52 países no período 2010-2022. Por meio de regressões Pooled OLS, verificou-se que a presença feminina em percentual satisfatório, em grupos "equilibrado" e "inclinado", afeta positivamente a divulgação de RSC relativa ao gênero. Porém, nos grupos com baixo percentual, "uniformes" e "enviesados", influencia negativamente a divulgação. O estudo contribui ao discutir a importância da presença dos grupos minoritários no Conselho de Administração, apoiando-se na Teoria do Tokenismo. Ademais, dá suporte ao aperfeiçoamento de políticas públicas que promovam a igualdade de gênero nos conselhos.

RESUMEN Introducción: El VIH/SIDA es considerado uno de los grandes casos de salud pública, sin embargo, está comprobado que pacientes que hacen uso de la terapia antirretroviral (TARV) y practican entrenamiento de fuerza provoca una promoción de su salud. Objetivos: Evaluar el impacto del entrenamiento de fuerza en la resistencia a las citoquinas y en la composición corporal de las personas que viven con VIH/SIDA. Métodos: Ensayo clínico aleatorizado, la muestra estuvo compuesta por 12 pacientes, siete del Grupo de Fuerza (TFG) y cinco del Grupo de Resistencia Muscular (GRM). Se compararon los niveles de las citocinas IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 y TNF-α y la composición corporal en la primera y la última sesión. Los pacientes completaron 36 sesiones de entrenamiento de fuerza y resistencia durante 12 semanas. Resultados: Tras 36 sesiones de entrenamiento de resistencia GRM, se produjo un aumento significativo de 4.734 pg/mL a 5.050 pg/mL de IL-10 (p=0,002). En cuanto a la TFG, no se encontraron resultados significativos. En cuanto a la composición corporal, hubo diferencias significativas en la TFG debido al aumento de la masa magra en brazos de 6.441g a 7.014g (p=0,04), piernas de 16.379g a 17.281g (p=0,02) y cuerpo entero de 45.640g a 47.343g (p=0,01). En el GRM hubo una disminución significativa del porcentaje de grasa en los brazos de 23.160% a 20.750% (p = 0,04). Para la evaluación de la calidad de vida se utilizó el cuestionario WHOQOL-HIV-Bref, donde se encontró una mejoría significativa en todos los dominios, excepto en el dominio nivel de independencia. Conclusión: Concluimos que el entrenamiento de resistencia muscular es eficaz para aumentar la IL-10 y disminuir el porcentaje de grasa en los brazos, mientras que el entrenamiento de fuerza aumenta la masa magra total. ABSTRACT Introduction: HIV/AIDS is considered one of the great cases of public health, but it is seen that patients who use antiretroviral therapy (ART) and practice strength training promote a promotion of their health. Objectives: Assess the impact of strength and resistance training on cytokines and body composition in people living with HIV/AIDS. Methods: Randomized clinical trial, the sample consisted of 12 patients, 7 from the Strength Group (GF) and 5 from Group 2, Muscular Resistance (MGR). We compared the levels of IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 and TNF-α cytokines and body composition in the first and last sessions. The patients completed 36 strength and resistance training sessions over 12 weeks. Results: After 36 sessions of GRM resistance training, there was a significant increase from 4,734 pg/mL to 5,050 pg/mL of IL-10 (p=0.002). Regarding the GFR, no significant results were found. For body composition, there were significant differences in GFR due to the increase in lean mass of the arms from 6,441g to 7,014g (p=0.04), legs from 16,379g to 17,281g (p=0.02) and whole body of 45,640g to 47,343g (p=0.01). In G2 there was a significant decrease in the percentage of fat in the arms from 23,160% to 20,750% (p = 0.04). To assess quality of life, the WHOQOL-HIV-Bref questionnaire was used, where significant improvement was found in all domains, except for the level of independence domain. Conclusion: We conclude that muscular resistance training is effective in increasing IL-10 and decreasing the percentage of fat in the arms, whereas strength training increases lean mass in arms, legs, and the whole body. RESUMO Introdução: O HIV/AIDS é considerado um dos grandes casos de saúde pública, porém verifica-se que pacientes que fazem uso de terapia antirretroviral (TARV) e praticam treinamento de força provocam uma promoção de sua saúde. Objetivos: Avaliar o impacto do treinamento de força sobre a resistência nas citocinas e a composição corporal de pessoas vivendo com HIV/AIDS. Métodos: Ensaio clínico randomizado, a amostra foi composta por 12 pacientes, sendo sete do Grupo Força (TFG) e cinco do Grupo Resistência Muscular (GRM). Comparou-se os níveis das citocinas IL-2, IL-4, IL-6, IL-10 e TNF-α e a composição corporal na primeira e na última sessão. Os pacientes completaram 36 sessões de treinamento de força e resistência ao longo de 12 semanas. Resultados: Após 36 sessões de treinamento resistido GRM, houve um aumento significativo de 4.734 pg/mL para 5.050 pg/mL de IL-10 (p=0,002). Em relação à TFG, não foram encontrados resultados significativos. Para composição corporal, houve diferenças significativas na TFG devido ao aumento da massa magra dos braços de 6.441g para 7.014g (p=0,04), pernas de 16.379g para 17.281g (p=0,02) e corpo inteiro de 45.640g para 47.343g (p=0,01). No GRM houve diminuição significativa do percentual de gordura nos braços de 23.160% para 20.750% (p = 0,04). Para avaliação da qualidade de vida foi utilizado o questionário WHOQOL-HIV-Bref, onde foi encontrada uma melhora significativa em todos os domínios, exceto no domínio nível de independência. ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the spatiotemporal epidemiological dynamics of meningitis in Brazil, between 2010 and 2019. Methods: Descriptive ecological study with cases and deaths due to meningitis in Brazil (2010-2019) in the National Notifiable Diseases Information System (Sistema de Informações de Agravos de Notificação – SINAN). The following analyses were performed: (I) frequency analyses of cases and deaths, prevalence rates, mortality, lethality, Fisher's exact test, and chi-square test; (II) Prais-Winstein regression; and (III) Global, Local Moran's index, and Kernel density. Results: 182,126 cases of meningitis were reported in Brazil, of which 16,866 (9.26%) resulted in death, with prevalence rates of 9.03/100,000 inhabitants, mortality of 0.84/100,000 inhabitants, and lethality of 9.26%. There was a noted trend of decreasing prevalence rates (−9.5%, 95% confidence interval — 95%CI −13.92; −4.96, p<0.01) and mortality (−11.74%, 95%CI −13.92; −9.48, p<0.01), while lethality remained stable (−2.08%, 95%CI −4.9; 0.8; p<0.1941). The majority of cases were viral meningitis (45.7%), among 1-9 years old (32.2%), while the highest proportion of deaths was due to bacterial meningitis (68%), among 40-59 years old (26.3%). In the Moran and Kernel maps of prevalence and mortality rates, municipalities in the South, Southeast, and the capital of Pernambuco in the Northeast stood out with high rates; as for lethality, the North, Northeast, and Southeast coastal areas were highlighted. Conclusion: A decrease in meningitis cases and deaths was found in this study; however, the lethality rate was higher in areas with lower prevalence, emphasizing the need to enhance actions for identifying, monitoring, and providing health care for cases, as well as expanding vaccination coverage.

RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a dinâmica epidemiológica espaçotemporal das meningites no Brasil, entre os anos de 2010 e 2019. Métodos: Estudo ecológico descritivo com os casos e óbitos por meningites no Brasil (2010–2019) no Sistema de Informações de Agravos de Notificação. Realizaram-se (I) análises de frequências dos casos e óbitos, taxas de prevalência, mortalidade, letalidade, testes de exato de Fisher e qui-quadrado; (II) regressão de Prais-Winsten; e (III) índice de Moran global, local e densidade de Kernel. Resultados: Notificaram-se 182.126 casos de meningites no Brasil, dos quais 16.866 (9,26%) evoluíram para óbito, com taxas de prevalência de 9,03/100.000/habitantes, mortalidade de 0,84/100.000/habitantes e letalidade de 9,26%. Destaca-se a tendência de decrescimento das taxas de prevalência (−9,5%, intervalo de confiança de 95% — IC95% −13,92; −4,96, p<0,01) e mortalidade (−11,74%, IC95% −13,92; −9,48, p<01,01), enquanto a letalidade se manteve estacionária (−2,08%, IC95% −4,9; 0,8; p<0,1941). A maioria dos casos foi de meningites virais (45,7%), entre 1 e 9 anos (32,2%), enquanto a maior parcela dos óbitos foi por meningites bacterianas (68%), entre 40 e 59 anos (26,3%). Nos mapas de Moran e Kernel das taxas de prevalência e mortalidade, destacaram-se com altas taxas os municípios do sul, sudeste e a capital de Pernambuco, no nordeste; já na letalidade, evidenciaram-se o norte, o nordeste e o litoral do sudeste. Conclusão: Encontrou-se decréscimo dos casos e óbitos por meningites neste estudo, entretanto a taxa de letalidade foi maior em áreas com menor prevalência, reforçando a necessidade do aprimoramento das ações de identificação, vigilância e assistência em saúde dos casos, bem como da ampliação da cobertura vacinal.

Resumo: Este trabalho apresenta os resultados do estudo Eu Quero é Mais! A Vida de Profissionais do Sexo Durante a Pandemia da COVID-19, integrante do programa de investigação comunitária EPIC. O estudo analisou os efeitos da pandemia nas vidas de trabalhadoras sexuais cis, trans e travestis em nove Unidades da Federação e 11 cidades brasileiras ao longo de 2020 e 2021. O artigo tem como foco o componente qualitativo do estudo baseado em entrevistas semiestruturadas realizadas de forma presencial e remota com 43 trabalhadoras sexuais, e seu cotejamento com o componente quantitativo. Os efeitos são analisados em relação com o marco pandêmico brasileiro, considerando as dimensões sociais, econômicas e políticas do vírus da COVID-19. Entre as temáticas chaves da análise, se destacam: casos de adoecimento, práticas localizadas de isolamento social, práticas de prevenção e gerenciamento de cuidado, vacinação individual e estratégias coletivas de vacinação. Compartilhamos também as respostas cotidianas e ativistas traçadas por trabalhadoras sexuais numa agenda política que se contrapõe à lógica individualista, familiarista, doméstica e neoliberal de isolamento, por meio de perspectivas comunitárias de cuidado, o que se desenhou como a única linha de ação em saúde para a categoria durante a pandemia. As ações coletivas reposicionam o trabalho sexual na interface entre a saúde pública e os direitos humanos e tomam como princípio os conhecimentos das ruas, desde os ativismos, e o poder de decisão delas próprias sobre seus corpos.

Resumen: Este trabajo presenta los resultados del estudio ¡Yo Quiero Más! La Vida de las Profesionales del Sexo Durante la Pandemia de la COVID-19, parte del programa de investigación comunitaria EPIC. El estudio analizó los efectos de la pandemia en la vida de trabajadoras sexuales cis, trans y travestis en 9 estados y 11 ciudades brasileñas a lo largo del 2020 y del 2021. El artículo se centra en el componente cualitativo del estudio basado en entrevistas semiestructuradas realizadas de forma presencial y remota a 43 trabajadoras sexuales y su comparación con el componente cuantitativo. Los efectos se analizan con relación al marco pandémico brasileño, considerando las dimensiones sociales, económicas y políticas del virus de la COVID-19. Entre las temáticas clave del análisis, destacan: casos de enfermedad, prácticas localizadas de aislamiento social, prácticas de prevención y gestión del cuidado, vacunación individual y estrategias colectivas de vacunación. Las acciones colectivas reposicionan el trabajo sexual en la interfaz entre la salud pública y los derechos humanos y toman como principio el conocimiento de la calle, desde el activismo, y su poder de decisión sobre sus cuerpos.

Abstract: This paper describes the results of the study I Want More! The Lives of Sex Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic, which is part of the EPIC community research program. The study analyzed the effects of the pandemic on the lives of cis, trans and travesti sex workers in nine Brazilian states and 11 cities throughout 2020 and 2021. This article focuses on the qualitative component of the study, which was based on semi-structured, remote and face-to-face interviews carried out with 43 sex workers, and its comparison with the quantitative component. The effects are analyzed in relation to the Brazilian pandemic framework, considering the social, economic and political dimensions of the COVID-19 virus. Some of the key themes of the analysis are cases of illness, specific social isolation practices, prevention and care management practices, individual vaccination and collective vaccination strategies. We also share the daily and activist responses drawn up by sex workers in a political agenda that opposes the individualistic, familialist, domestic, and neoliberal logic of isolation by adopting community care perspectives, which was the only line of health action for this work category during the pandemic. Collective actions reposition sex work at the interface between public health and human rights and take as their principle the “street knowledge”, from activism, and the workers’ power of decision over their own bodies.

Abstract We investigated the Biogran on bone repair and metabolism at several time-intervals upon grafting into rat tibia artificial defects. The biomaterial was thoroughly characterized in vitro, and its dissolution behavior upon immersion was assessed in simulated body fluid (SBF) solution for 1, 3, 7, 14, and 30 days. Biogran was also assessed by in vitro hydroxyapatite formation in SBF solution, which is a marker for bioactive behavior. In vivo, distal and proximal bone defects were performed in the Wistar rat's right tibia and filled according to the experimental groups: I) negative control, no filling; II) positive control, 10 mg of autogenous bone; and III) 10 mg of Biogran. Animals were euthanized at 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, and 10 weeks. Bone neoformation was analyzed using histomorphometry (proximal defect), and local levels of bone morphogenetic protein 2 (BMP-2) were measured using the ELISA assay (distal defect). In vitro, the Biogran sample showed a fast dissolution rate within the first 7 days, parallel to the formation of the hydroxyapatite layer. In vivo, the sample was progressively resorbed at a higher rate within the first month until it became almost absent at week 10th. The sample presented similar or higher bone neoformation concerning the autogenous bone. BMP-2 levels were sustained in the Biogran group (around 200 pg/mg) and detected until the last experimental time with a significant difference compared with the controls. Abstract Cryoprotectants are required to reduce damage caused to the cells due to low temperatures during the cryopreservation. Antifreeze proteins (AFP) have a well-known role in cell membrane protection, while resveratrol is a potent antioxidant. This study assessed the effect of the association of resveratrol concentrations and AFP I in a ram semen extender. Pooled semen of four rams was allocated into six treatments in a factorial arrangement: (CONT, only the semen extender); only AFP I (ANT: 0.1 µg/mL of AFP I), only resveratrol, one treatment with two levels (10 µM/mL or 50 µM/mL of resveratrol); and two treatments with the interactions, with one AFP I and one of the two levels of resveratrol (0.1 µg/mL of AFP I with 10 µM/mL resveratrol; 0.1 µg/mL of AFP I with 50 µM/mL resveratrol). No interaction between factors was observed on sperm kinetics, plasma membrane integrity, hypo-osmotic test, and mitochondrial activity parameters. There was a high probability (P = 0.06) of reducing sperm cells with functional membrane percentage in the hypo-osmotic test and increasing the percentage of sperm with high mitochondrial activity (P = 0.07) was observed in AFP presence. RESUMO Objetivo: Analisar a dinâmica epidemiológica espaçotemporal das meningites no Brasil, entre os anos de 2010 e 2019. Métodos: Estudo ecológico descritivo com os casos e óbitos por meningites no Brasil (2010–2019) no Sistema de Informações de Agravos de Notificação. Realizaram-se (I) análises de frequências dos casos e óbitos, taxas de prevalência, mortalidade, letalidade, testes de exato de Fisher e qui-quadrado; (II) regressão de Prais-Winsten; e (III) índice de Moran global, local e densidade de Kernel. Resultados: Notificaram-se 182.126 casos de meningites no Brasil, dos quais 16.866 (9,26%) evoluíram para óbito, com taxas de prevalência de 9,03/100.000/habitantes, mortalidade de 0,84/100.000/habitantes e letalidade de 9,26%. Destaca-se a tendência de decrescimento das taxas de prevalência (−9,5%, intervalo de confiança de 95% — IC95% −13,92; −4,96, p<0,01) e mortalidade (−11,74%, IC95% −13,92; −9,48, p<01,01), enquanto a letalidade se manteve estacionária (−2,08%, IC95% −4,9; 0,8; p<0,1941). A maioria dos casos foi de meningites virais (45,7%), entre 1 e 9 anos (32,2%), enquanto a maior parcela dos óbitos foi por meningites bacterianas (68%), entre 40 e 59 anos (26,3%). ABSTRACT Objective: To analyze the spatiotemporal epidemiological dynamics of meningitis in Brazil, between 2010 and 2019. Methods: Descriptive ecological study with cases and deaths due to meningitis in Brazil (2010-2019) in the National Notifiable Diseases Information System (Sistema de Informações de Agravos de Notificação – SINAN). The following analyses were performed: (I) frequency analyses of cases and deaths, prevalence rates, mortality, lethality, Fisher's exact test, and chi-square test; (II) Prais-Winstein regression; and (III) Global, Local Moran's index, and Kernel density. Results: 182,126 cases of meningitis were reported in Brazil, of which 16,866 (9.26%) resulted in death, with prevalence rates of 9.03/100,000 inhabitants, mortality of 0.84/100,000 inhabitants, and lethality of 9.26%. There was a noted trend of decreasing prevalence rates (−9.5%, 95% confidence interval — 95%CI −13.92; −4.96, p<0.01) and mortality (−11.74%, 95%CI −13.92; −9.48, p<0.01), while lethality remained stable (−2.08%, 95%CI −4.9; 0.8; p<0.1941). The majority of cases were viral meningitis (45.7%), among 1-9 years old (32.2%), while the highest proportion of deaths was due to bacterial meningitis (68%), among 40-59 years old (26.3%). In the Moran and Kernel maps of prevalence and mortality rates, municipalities in the South, Southeast, and the capital of Pernambuco in the Northeast stood out with high rates; as for lethality, the North, Northeast, and Southeast coastal areas were highlighted. Conclusion: A decrease in meningitis cases and deaths was found in this study; however, the lethality rate was higher in areas with lower prevalence, emphasizing the need to enhance actions for identifying, monitoring, and providing health care for cases, as well as expanding vaccination coverage. Resumo A aplicação de águas residuárias da bovinocultura (ARB) é uma prática usual, entretanto, carece de investigação acerca dos seus efeitos agronômicos para subsidiar a sua utilização sustentável. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o reúso da ARB e da adubação mineral nitrogenada sobre os atributos morfológicos, bromatológicos e de produtividade da pastagem de Tifton 85 durante o inverno. Foram avaliados diferentes tipos de água aplicados por aspersão (I - água de córrego, II - ARB e água de córrego em proporção 1:1, e III - ARB) e dois níveis de adubação nitrogenada mineral (0 e 45 kg N ha-1) aplicados no início da rebrota. A irrigação foi semanal e totalizou 2.440 m3 ha-1. Aos 106 dias após a rebrota foram medidas a produtividade da forrageira, altura, razão folha/colmo, índice de área foliar, índice de nutrição de nitrogênio, proteína bruta, fibras insolúveis em detergente ácido, fibras insolúveis em detergente neutro e matéria mineral. A adubação mineral na dose de 45 kg N ha-1 não influenciou as variáveis avaliadas. Em média, o reúso da ARB elevou a produtividade de 2,50 para 5,12 t ha-1 e a proteína bruta de 12,35% para 14,58% comparado com a água de córrego. O reúso da ARB com ou sem diluição proporcionou produtividade, qualidade nutricional e acúmulo de nitrogênio pela pastagem superiores à irrigação com apenas água de córrego (p < 0,01), sendo o reúso com ARB diluída (1:1) e sem adubação é suficiente para sustentar a pastagem de Tifton 85 durante o inverno no Cerrado. Abstract The utilization of wastewater from livestock farming (WLF) represents a common agricultural practice, but the absence of research on its agronomic impacts hinders its sustainable implementation. This study assesses the reutilization of WLF combined with nitrogen fertilization on the morphological, bromatological, and productivity attributes of a Tifton 85 pasture during the winter season. The study involved the application of different types of water via sprinkler: (I) stream water; (II) mixture of WLF and stream water at a 1:1 ratio; and (III) undiluted WLF combined with mineral nitrogen fertilization (0 and 45 kg N ha-1) administered at the commencement of the regrowth period. Irrigation was applied on a weekly basis, totaling 2,440 m3 ha-1. At 106 days post-regrowth, parameters including forage productivity, height, leaf-stem ratio, leaf area index, nitrogen nutrition index, crude protein content, acid detergent fiber, neutral detergent fiber, and mineral matter content were determined. Mineral fertilization at the prescribed dosage (45 kg N ha-1) did not have any discernible impact on the parameters under investigation. On average, the reuse of WLF raised the productivity from 2.50 to 5.12 t ha-1 and the Crude Protein from 12.35% to 14.58% compared to stream water. The reuse of WLF demonstrated superior outcomes (p < 0.01) in terms of pasture productivity, nutritional quality, and nitrogen accumulation compared to irrigation solely with stream water. The reuse of diluted WLF (1:1) without fertilization proved adequate to sustain Tifton 85 pastures during the winter season in the Brazilian Cerrado region. Abstract Extracranial cerebrovascular disease has been the subject of intense research throughout the world, and is of paramount importance for vascular surgeons. This guideline, written by the Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery (SBACV), supersedes the 2015 guideline. Non-atherosclerotic carotid artery diseases were not included in this document. The purpose of this guideline is to bring together the most robust evidence in this area in order to help specialists in the treatment decision-making process. The AGREE II methodology and the European Society of Cardiology system were used for recommendations and levels of evidence. Abstract Objective Summarize the evidence on drug therapies for obstructive sleep apnea. Methods The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines were followed. PubMed, Embase, Scopus, Web of Science, SciELO, LILACS, Scopus, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, and ClinicalTrials.gov were searched on February 17th, 2023. A search strategy retrieved randomized clinical trials comparing the Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) in pharmacotherapies. Studies were selected and data was extracted by two authors independently. The risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane Risk of Bias tool. RevMan 5.4. was used for data synthesis. Results 4930 articles were obtained, 68 met inclusion criteria, and 29 studies (involving 11 drugs) were combined in a meta-analysis. Atomoxetine plus oxybutynin vs placebo in AHI mean difference of -7.71 (-10.59, -4.83) [Fixed, 95 % CI, I2 = 50 %, overall effect: Z = 5.25, p < 0.001]. Resumo: O melhoramento de Physalis peruviana é incipiente no Brasil e mostra-se como a alternativa mais promissora no desenvolvimento de genótipos produtivos e com qualidade de fruto. Sendo assim, o objetivo foi avaliar a capacidade de combinação entre linhagens endogâmicas de P. peruviana, indicando, assim, híbridos comqualidade de fruto. Para tanto, quatro populações de distintas origens (Colômbia, Lages,Caçador, Peru)foram submetidas a três gerações de autofecundação e a hibridação, totalizando28 genótipos. Utilizou-se um esquema de dialelo completo (Método 1 de Griffing) a fim de comparar o desempenho dos híbridos em relação aos genitores, com base nos efeitos dacapacidade geral e da capacidade específica de combinação. Os experimentos foramconduzidos em dois locais (Lages-SC e Xanxerê-SC), sob um delineamento de blocoscasualizados, com três repetições. Na análise de variância, o fator genótipo foi decomposto nasseguintes causas de variação: i) genitores e híbridos F1’s, ii) gerações de autofecundação e iii) interação genótipo x local. Houve diferenças significativas entre Genitores e híbridos F1’s parao caráter diâmetro polar do fruto. Foram observados valores significativos para adecomposição da interação: Capacidade específica x Local e Recíproco x Local. Porém, para oambiente de Xanxerê, houve redução de aproximadamente 3,0 mm no diâmetro polar do fruto,no híbrido Colômbia x Peru, e redução de 4,5 mm, para o recíproco (Peru x Colômbia). Comrelação às autofecundações, na comparação S0 vs. S1 para as populações Lages e Peru,houve redução na massa de frutos (0,380 g) e no rendimento de frutos (974,5kg.ha-1). Porém,de maneira geral, a qualidade de fruto não foi afetada em virtude dasautofecundações. As populações não manifestam desempenho promissor quando em combinações híbridas,revelando a existência de apenas um pool gênico de P. peruviana de restritabase genética. Abstract: The breeding of Physalis peruviana is incipient in Brazil and is shown to be the most promising alternative for the development of productive genotypes with fruit quality. Therefore, the objective was to evaluate the combining ability between inbred lines of P. peruviana, thus indicating the selection of hybrids with fruit quality. Therefore, four populations from different origins were selfed for three generations and crossed in controlled hybridizations, resulting in 28 P. peruviana populations. The hybrid in relation to the parent performance, based on the effects of general and specific combining ability, was compared in a full diallel mating design (Griffing Method 1). In the analysis of variance, the factor genotype was partitioned into the following causes of variation: i) parents and F1 hybrids, ii) selfed generations and iii) Genotype × environment (GE) interaction. There were significant differences between Parents and F1 hybrids for the trait fruit polar diameter. Still, the interaction between specific combining ability x environment and, reciprocal effect x environment, was significant. However, for the Xanxerê environment, there was a reduction of approximately 3.0 mm in the polar diameter of the fruit in the hybrid Colombia x Peru and a reduction of 4.5 mm for the reciprocal (Peru x Colombia). In the comparison of the selfed generations S0 with S1, the fruit weight of the Lages population decreased by 0.380 g. There was also a reduction of 974.5 kg.ha-1 in the fruit yield of the Peruvian population. Thus, the performance of the P. peruviana populations in hybrid combinations is unpromising, indicating the existence of only one P. peruviana gene pool, with a restricted genetic basis. ABSTRACT Flooding periods directly interfere with the availability of oxygen in the soil, affecting the aerobic processes of the plants. In this study, we aimed to: (i) characterize the effects of water excess soil on cassava growth; (ii) identify management practices that reduce the impact of water excess on cassava yield; and (iii) to know the crop potential yield for the study region in order to quantify the yield loss caused by water excess. The effects of water excess were evaluated through experiments in pots and in the field. The physiological and morphological response of cassava plants under water excess in a controllable environment indicated greater damage to cassava after exposure of 96 and 120 hours of water excess. Every 24 hours of water excess, about 20% of the plants did not emerge and, after 96 hours of excess, the emergence was null. The use of raised seedbeds was a management practice that ensured 62.6% of plant establishment, allowing cassava yields of up to 16.9 Mg ha-1. The potential yield to Santa Maria in the 2018/2019 crop year was 43.9 Mg ha-1 of cassava roots.
