Abstract Introduction Permanent education in health aims to ensure that professionals are constantly learning in the workplace and in the last few years institutions resorted to the technology-mediated education modality and new teaching possibilities were explored. In Brazil, between 2017 and 2021, only six articles and five monographs were published about listening effort. Objective The objective of this study was to develop a website with scientific content on the topic listening effort for Speech -Language Therapist and Audiologist with free online access. Methods The study was carried out in five stages: Analysis, contemplating the search for scientific materials to prepare the material. Design, in which the writing and design of the website was carried out. Development, carrying out the adequacy of the online material. Implementation, a stage in which professionals in the area evaluated the quality of the material after consenting to participation through a free and informed consent term. Review, stage in which the researcher analyzed the evaluators' responses. Results The five stages of elaboration of the website were carried out, which was evaluated by professionals in the area. The average of responses to all applied questions rated the website as "superior". RESUMO Objetivo identificar os questionários e escalas utilizados na avaliação do benefício e da satisfação dos usuários de próteses auditivas ancoradas no osso, respondendo a questão norteadora: “Quais questionários e escalas são utilizados para avaliar o benefício e a satisfação dos usuários de prótese auditiva ancorada no osso?”. Estratégia de pesquisa busca realizada nas bases de dados Public Medicine Library, Scopus, Web of Science, LILACS e Embase. Na literatura cinzenta, utilizou-se a fonte de informação Google Acadêmico e a Biblioteca Digital Brasileira de Teses e dissertações, por meio dos descritores: prótese ancorada no osso (bone-anchored prosthesis), perda auditiva condutiva-neurossensorial mista (hearing loss, mixed conductive-sensorineural), qualidade de vida (quality of life), satisfação do paciente (patient satisfaction), inquéritos e questionários (surveys and questionnaires). ABSTRACT Purpose to identify the questionnaires and scales used as subjective tools for the assessment process regarding the benefit and satisfaction of users of Bone-Anchored Hearing Aids to answer the following guiding question: Which questionnaires and scales are used in adults to evaluate the benefit and satisfaction of Bone-Anchored Hearing Aid users? Research strategy the search was carried out in the PubMed, SciELO, Scopus, Web of Science, Lilacs and Embase databases and, in gray literature, Google Academic and Brazilian Digital Library of Theses and Dissertations were used as information sources. The descriptors used were: bone-anchored prosthesis, hearing loss, mixed conductive-sensorineural, quality of life, patient satisfaction, surveys and questionnaires. Selection criteria studies that used questionnaires and scales to verify the benefit and satisfaction of users of Bone-Anchored Hearing Aid, published in Portuguese, English or Spanish, from 1999 to 2022, were included. RESUMO Objetivo Analisar o desempenho auditivo e expectativas quanto ao uso dos aparelhos de amplificação sonora individual (AASI) dos participantes com perda auditiva mínima. Método Trata-se de uma pesquisa primária, observacional, longitudinal e prospectiva. Para isso, foram aplicados os questionários Speech Spatial Qualities Questionnaire e o Expected Consequences of Hearing Aid Ownership que buscam verificar o desempenho auditivo em situações complexas de escuta e a expectativa quanto ao uso de AASI, respectivamente. A amostra se deu por conveniência com indivíduos adultos de 53 a 72 anos. Resultados No desempenho auditivo, observaram-se maiores dificuldades em situações desfavoráveis como na fala e fala no ruído, seguidas por maior facilidade em localizar a fonte sonora, qualidade e naturalidade do som. Para as expectativas quanto ao uso do dispositivo de amplificação, as variáveis com valor de correlação significativa foram idade expectativa geral com o uso do AASI, e idade em relação aos seus aspectos positivos. Não houve associação estatisticamente significativa entre os scores de desempenho em situações complexas de escuta e as variáveis analisadas. ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze hearing performance and expectations regarding the use of hearing aids (HA) by participants with minimal hearing loss. Methods This research is a primary, observational, longitudinal and prospective study. Two questionnaires, the Speech Spatial Qualities Questionnaire (SSQ) and the Expected Consequences of Hearing Aid Ownership (ECHO), were used, respectively, to verify hearing performance in complex listening situations and expectations regarding the use of HA. The convenience sample consisted of adults aged 53 to 72. Results SSQ showed that, for hearing performance, greater difficulties were observed in unfavorable situations such as speech and speech-in-noise, followed by greater ease in locating the sound source and in the quality and naturalness of the sound. ECHO showed that, for the expectations regarding the use of the HA, the variables with significant correlation values were age x general expectation with HA and age x HA's positive aspects. No statistically significant association existed between performance scores in complex listening situations and the analyzed variables. Conclusion Minimal hearing loss can negatively influence everyday communicative situations, and the expectation of individuals with minimal hearing loss regarding the use of HA was shown to be high. In addition, the hearing performance of individuals in this study did not show correlations with the age, gender and education level of the sample. RESUMO Objetivo o estudo teve como objetivo a tradução e adaptação cultural do Hearing Aid Skills and Knowledge Test (HASK) para o português brasileiro. Métodos trata-se de um estudo qualitativo dos processos de tradução e adaptação cultural de um instrumento de medida da língua inglesa para o português brasileiro, baseado no método proposto por Lins et al. (2017) e Beaton et al. (2000). Ao todo, foram submetidos ao estudo 38 voluntários usuários de aparelho de amplificação sonora individual, recrutados no Serviço de Saúde Auditiva da instituição, elegíveis por critérios de inclusão e exclusão. Resultados o processo de tradução e adaptação cultural eleito foi subdividido em cinco etapas: (1) tradução da versão original para a língua portuguesa, realizada por duas tradutoras distintas, que originou a Versão Português Consenso 1; (2) avaliação pelo comitê profissional. Dentre os 53 termos traduzidos, 23 obtiveram equivalência semântica e dois não alcançaram equivalência conceitual, idiomática e experimental. Essa etapa resultou na Versão Consenso 2; (3) retrotradução, realizada para comparação da Versão Consenso 2 com a original. Foi constatada pela autora do teste a equivalência entre ambas; (4) submissão da Versão Consenso 2 para consenso pelo Painel de Pacientes, em que três participantes apontaram o nível de dificuldade do teste como fácil e três, como médio. Nessa etapa, foi estabelecida a Versão Final do teste; (5) aplicação da Versão Final na etapa pré-teste, na qual foi evidenciada a importância de contextualização de dois termos pelo profissional que aplicou o teste. Conclusão o teste HASK foi traduzido e adaptado para a língua portuguesa, obtendo-se equivalências semânticas, idiomáticas, experimentais e conceituais.

ABSTRACT Purpose The study aimed at the translation and cultural adaptation of the Hearing Aid Skills and Knowledge Test (HASK) into Brazilian Portuguese. Methods This is a qualitative study of the translation and cultural processes of an adaptation measure from English to Brazilian Portuguese based on the method proposed by Lins et al. (2017) and Beaton et al. (2000). In all, 38 hearing aids users were selected for the study, recruited in Hearing Health Service of the Institution, eligible by inclusion and exclusion criteria, accepted under the number 3,228,085. Results The process of translation and cultural adaptation chosen was divided into 5 stages, among them: (1) Translation of the original version into Portuguese, carried out by two different translators, which gave rise to the Portuguese Consensus 1 version; 2) Evaluation by the professional committee. Among of the 53 translated terms, 23 obtained semantic equivalence and two did not achieved conceptual, idiomatic and experimental equivalence. This step resulted in Consensus Version 2; (3) The Back-Translation was carried out to compare the Consensus 2 Version to the original. The test author confirmed the equivalence between both; (4) Consensus Version 2 was submitted to a panel of patients, in which three participants indicated the test difficulty level as easy and three as medium. At this stage, it was established the Final Version of the test; (5) Application of the Final Version in the step pre-test, which highlights the importance of contextualizing two terms by the professional who applied the test. Conclusion The HASK test was translated and adapted to the Portuguese language, with semantic, experimental and conceptual equivalence.

RESUMO Objetivo Descrever dados da perda auditiva, da hipertensão arterial sistêmica e do zumbido dos indivíduos, e verificar a associação entre hipertensão arterial sistêmica autorreferida e zumbido, bem como correlacionar outras variáveis presentes na amostra: perda auditiva e zumbido, idade e zumbido e idade e hipertensão arterial sistêmica. Método Pesquisa quantitativa, descritiva e inferencial, retrospectiva com coleta de dados de 473 prontuários de adultos e idosos atendidos entre os anos 2008 e 2018. Selecionadas informações sobre idade, gênero, resultado da audiometria tonal liminar, zumbido, tipo e frequência do zumbido, presença de HAS e uso de medicamento para controle da doença. Resultados não foi encontrada associação entre hipertensão arterial sistêmica e zumbido ou entre perda auditiva e zumbido e entre idade e zumbido, todavia foi observada associação entre idade e hipertensão arterial sistêmica, por meio do teste Qui Quadrado. O tipo de zumbido mais comum foi o chiado e a maioria dos indivíduos que referiram sentir mais de um tipo de zumbido eram hipertensos. Conclusão os resultados encontrados e a literatura sugerem que a hipertensão arterial sistêmica pode ser um fator adicional ou um agravante de fatores preexistentes na geração do zumbido, porém não a causa primária.

ABSTRACT Purpose To describe data on hearing loss, systemic arterial hypertension and tinnitus of individuals, and to verify the association between self-reported systemic arterial hypertension and tinnitus, as well as to correlate other variables present in the sample: hearing loss and tinnitus, age and tinnitus and age and systemic arterial hypertension. Methods Quantitative, descriptive and inferential, retrospective research with data collection from 473 medical records of adults and elderly people treated between 2008 and 2018. Selected were information on age, gender, result of pure tone audiometry, tinnitus, tinnitus type and frequency, presence of SAH and use of medication to control the disease. Results No association was found between systemic arterial hypertension and tinnitus or between hearing loss and tinnitus and between age and tinnitus, however, an association was observed between age and systemic arterial hypertension using the Chi - Square test. The most common type of tinnitus was wheezing and most individuals who reported feeling more than one type of tinnitus were hypertensive. Conclusion The results found and the literature suggest that systemic arterial hypertension may be an additional factor or an aggravating factor of preexisting factors in the generation of tinnitus, but not the primary cause.

RESUMO Objetivo: estabelecer o perfil dos indivíduos com zumbido, atendidos em um serviço de Saúde Auditiva e associar o sintoma com gênero, perfil audiológico e presença de vertigem. Métodos: estudo descritivo, retrospectivo. Foi realizada a análise de 6.000 prontuários de indivíduos atendidos em um serviço de saúde auditiva, os dados coletados do prontuário foram: dados sociodemográficos, características da deficiência auditiva, caraterísticas do zumbido e da vertigem, entrevista fonoaudiológica, avaliações otorrinolaringológicas, audiológicas, otoneurológicas, estilo de vida e dos fatores de risco. A análise descritiva, foi realizada por meio do teste de associação Qui-quadrado, sendo adotado o nível de significância estatística de 5% (p<0,05) para a análise inferencial. Resultados: houve associação estatisticamente significante entre presença de zumbido e gênero, audição normal e vertigem e foi constatada também associação significante entre zumbido e perda auditiva condutiva unilateral e bilateral, perda auditiva sensorioneural unilateral e bilateral. Conclusão: houve associação significante, na população avaliada, para presença de zumbido e gênero feminino, audição normal, perda auditiva condutiva unilateral e bilateral, perda auditiva sensorioneural unilateral e bilateral e presença de vertigem.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to establish the profile of individuals with tinnitus treated at a Hearing Health service and to associate the symptom with gender, audiological profile, and presence of vertigo. Methods: a descriptive, retrospective study with an analysis of 6,000 medical records of individuals treated at a hearing health service was carried out. The data collected from the medical records were: sociodemographic data, characteristics of hearing impairment, characteristics of tinnitus and vertigo, speech therapy interview, and otorhinolaryngological, audiological, otoneurological assessments, characteristics of life style and risk factors. An descriptive analysis was performed using the Chi-square test of association, adopting a statistical significance level of 5% (p<0.05) for the inferential analysis. Results: there was a statistically significant association between the presence of tinnitus and gender, normal hearing, and vertigo, and a significant association was also found between tinnitus and unilateral and bilateral conductive hearing loss, and unilateral and bilateral sensorineural hearing loss. Conclusion: there was a significant association, in the population evaluated, for the presence of tinnitus and female gender, normal hearing, unilateral and bilateral conductive hearing loss, unilateral and bilateral sensorineural hearing loss, and the presence of vertigo.

RESUMO Objetivo: desenvolver uma ferramenta educacional em um Ambiente Virtual de Aprendizagem (AVA), em formato de site, fornecendo informações sobre zumbido, além de conteúdos adicionais sobre audição e disponibilizar links de acesso a outros Websites relacionados a fonoaudiologia, visando a promoção de saúde do público-alvo. Métodos: trata-se de um estudo experimental, descritivo. Para a construção, foram elaboradas 6 etapas, são elas: planejamento, adequação, coleta dos depoimentos, inclusão do conteúdo, revisão e divulgação. Resultados: o site foi intitulado "Você tem zumbido?" E subdividido nos tópicos: "Início", "Zumbido?", "Tipos de zumbido", "Principais causas", "O que fazer?", "Principais formas de tratamento", “Dicas para aliviar o zumbido", "Prevenção", "Atualidades ", "Depoimentos", "Sobre sua audição", "O que é perda auditiva?", "O que é fonoaudiologia", "Outros sites", "Contato" e "Sobre". Foram inseridas ilustrações e vídeos, sendo que as informações contidas no material foram classificadas com legibilidade fácil. Conclusão: foi possível desenvolver um Website, intitulado “Você tem zumbido?”, disponível no endereço eletrônico: https://vocetemzumbido.wixsite.com/home, disponibilizando informações gerais sobre o zumbido, além de informações adicionais sobre audição.

ABSTRACT Objective: to develop an educational tool in a Virtual Learning Environment (VLE), in a website format, to supply information on tinnitus, additional content on hearing and to provide access links to other websites related to speech therapy and audiology, so as to promote public health. Methods: an experimental, descriptive study, involving, in its construction, 6 stages elaborated as follows: planning, adaptation, collection of testimonies, inclusion of content, review and dissemination. Results: the site was titled "Do you have tinnitus?" It was subdivided into others: "Home", "Tinnitus?" "Types of tinnitus," "Main causes," "What to do?" "Main forms of treatment," "Tips to relieve tinnitus," "Prevention," "News," "Testimonials," "About your hearing," "What is hearing loss?" "What are speech therapy and audiology?" "Other sites," "Contact" and "About." Illustrations and videos were inserted, and the information contained in any material was classified with easy readability. Conclusion: it was possible to develop a website entitled “Do you have tinnitus?” available at the electronic address: https://vocetemzumbido.wixsite.com/home, providing general information about tinnitus, in addition to additional information on hearing.

RESUMO Introdução Possibilitar o acesso à informação com diferentes meios de comunicação é fundamental e desafiador, pois diversas barreiras de comunicação estão presentes, como a linguagem do emissor, a forma de apresentação da informação, o material utilizado e a dificuldade de acesso, disponibilidade de tempo, motivação e, principalmente, o interesse. Programas educativos de prevenção e promoção da saúde auditiva são primordiais, proporcionando mudança de atitudes e melhora na qualidade de vida. Objetivo Verificar a motivação e as atitudes sociais dos estudantes após participarem de um programa educacional de capacitação em saúde auditiva. Métodos Participaram 38 estudantes da rede pública de ensino, distribuídos da seguinte forma: Escola A (13 alunos), Escola B (cinco alunos), Escola C (11 alunos) e Escola D (nove alunos). Responderam à Escala Lickert de Atitudes Sociais em Relação à Inclusão (ELASI) e à Ficha de Pesquisa Motivacional, antes e após o programa. O delineamento do estudo foi exploratório. Resultados Na ELASI houve diferença significativa para todas as escolas, nas situações antes e após o programa educacional. Quando comparadas as escolas entre si, houve diferença apenas na escola B. Estes resultados demonstraram atitudes favoráveis dos estudantes ao programa de capacitação e, consequentemente, uma possível melhora dos comportamentos relacionados à inclusão nas escolas. Com relação ao aspecto motivacional, foi constatado que 100% dos alunos avaliaram positivamente o programa de capacitação, considerando como “curso impressionante!”. Conclusão As atitudes sociais e motivacionais no programa educacional de capacitação na temática da saúde auditiva, utilizando a Teleducação Interativa, foram favoráveis, revelando tendência à inclusão social.

ABSTRACT Introduction Providing access to information with different means of communication is fundamental and challenging, since several communication barriers are present such as the language of the issuer, the way information is presented, the material used and the difficulty of access, availability of time, motivation and, mainly the interest. Educational programs for the prevention and promotion of hearing health are essential, providing change of attitudes and improvement in the quality of life. Purpose To verify the motivation and social attitudes of students after participating in an educational program of training in hearing health Methods The study featured 38 students from public schools, distributed as follows: School A (13 students), School B (five students), School C (11 students) and School D (nine students). They answered the Escala Likert de Atitudes Sociais em Relação à Inclusão (Likert Social Attitudes Scale in Relation to Inclusion) (ELASI), and the Motivational Analysis Checklist, before and after an educational hearing health training program. The study design was exploratory. Results In the ELASI, there was a significant difference for all schools in the situations before and after the educational program. In the comparison among schools, only School B showed difference. These results indicate favorable attitudes of the students in relation to the training program, therefore revealing possible improvements in the behaviors towards inclusion in schools. In the Motivational Analysis Checklist, it was found that 100% of students positively evaluated the training program, considering it an “impressive course”. Conclusion The social and motivational attitudes in the educational training program, on the subject of Hearing Health, using Interactive Teleducation, were favorable, revealing trend to social inclusion.

Objetivo Verificar a eficácia do DVD “Conhecendo e Aprendendo sobre meu Aparelho Auditivo” como ferramenta no processo de adaptação do aparelho de amplificação sonora individual (AASI) em idosos. Métodos Participaram dessa pesquisa 27 indivíduos, divididos em dois grupos: grupo controle, que recebeu as orientações fonoaudiológicas e o manual técnico de instruções que acompanhava o AASI retroauricular adaptado; e grupo experimental, que recebeu as mesmas orientações do grupo controle, acrescidas do referido DVD. A eficácia do DVD foi mensurada por meio do instrumento específico de habilidades de manuseio com o AASI Practical Hearing Aid Skills Test, usando-se análise estatística-descritiva e o teste não paramétrico de Mann-Whitney. Resultados O grupo experimental obteve melhor desempenho nas tarefas de limpeza do AASI e molde auricular, manipulação do controle de volume, manuseio da bobina telefônica e posicionamento correto do telefone na orelha. Não houve diferença entre os desempenhos do grupo controle e grupo experimental, no Practical Hearing Aid Skills Test. A maioria do grupo experimental afirmou estar muito satisfeita com as informações contidas no DVD. Conclusão Foi observada tendência de melhora, no grupo experimental, quanto à compreensão do conteúdo sobre o AASI, devido ao uso do DVD e elevado grau de satisfação desse grupo com o instrumento, confirmando ser um material possível de ser utilizado durante o processo de adaptação do AASI.

Purpose To verify the effectiveness of the DVD “Knowing and Learning about my Hearing Aid” as a tool in the hearing aid (HA) adaptation process in the elderly. Methods A total of 27 individuals, divided in two groups, participated in this study: a control group, which received the audiological guidance and the technical instruction manual accompanying the adapted behind-the-ear hearing aids; and an experimental group, which received the same guidance as the control group, plus the DVD. The effectiveness of the DVD was measured through a specific tool that evaluates the skills to manipulate the HA, the Practical Hearing Aid Skills Test, using descriptive statistics analysis and the non-parametric Mann-Whitney test. Results The experimental group obtained a better performance in the tasks of cleaning the hearing aid and the earmold, manipulating the volume control, handling the telecoil and correctly placing the phone in the ear. No difference was found between the performances of the control group and the experimental group in the Practical Hearing Aid Skills Test. Most of the experimental group affirmed to be very satisfied with the information stored in the DVD. Conclusion An improvement trend was observed in the experimental group regarding the understanding of the content about the HA, due to the use of the DVD, and a high level of satisfaction was observed among the participants of this group with the tool, which confirms such material is a tool possible to be used during the HA adaptation process.

OBJETIVO: O envelhecimento ocasiona alterações de orelha externa como colabamento do meato acústico externo e membrana timpânica senil. Conhecê-las é oportuno para o diagnóstico da deficiência auditiva e para seleção do aparelho de amplificação sonora individual. Por esse motivo, o estudo propôs-se a verificar a interferência das alterações anatômicas da orelha externa na ressonância do meato acústico em idosos. MÉTODOS: A amostra foi composta por medidas objetivas de orelha externa de idosos com colabamento (grupo A), membrana timpânica senil (grupo B) e sem alteração de meato acústico externo ou membrana timpânica (grupo C) e de adultos sem alteração de orelha externa (grupo D). No estudo retrospectivo/clínico realizaram-se comparações de medidas de indivíduos com e sem alteração de orelha externa por meio do ganho e resposta de ressonância da orelha externa e da frequência de pico primário para orelha direita. RESULTADOS: Nos grupos A, B e C houve diferença estatisticamente significante entre Real Ear Unaided Response (REUR) e Real Ear Unaided Gain (REUG), mas não para a frequência de pico. Para os grupos A e B ocorreu diferença significativa na REUR e REUG. Entre os grupos C e D houve significância estatística para a REUR e REUG, mas não para a frequência do pico primário. CONCLUSÃO: As alterações na orelha externa influenciam na ressonância, diminuindo a sua amplitude. Todavia, a frequência do pico primário não é afetada.

PURPOSE: Aging causes changes in the external ear as a collapse of the external auditory canal and tympanic membrane senile. Knowing them is appropriate for the diagnosis of hearing loss and selection of hearing aids. For this reason, the study aimed to verify the influence of the anatomical changes of the external ear resonance in the auditory canal in the elderly. METHODS: The sample consisted of objective measures of the external ear of elderly with collapse (group A), senile tympanic membrane (group B) and without changing the external auditory canal or tympanic membrane (group C) and adults without changing the external ear (group D). In the retrospective/clinical study were performed comparisons of measures of individuals with and without alteration of the external ear through the gain and response external ear resonant frequency and the primary peak to the right ear. RESULTS: In groups A, B and C was no statistically significant difference between Real Ear Unaided Response (REUR) and Real Ear Unaided Gain (REUG), but not for the peak frequency. For groups A and B were shown significant differences in REUR and REUG. Between the C and D groups were significant statistics to the REUR and REUG, but not for the frequency of the primary peak. CONCLUSION: Changes influence the external ear resonance, decreasing its amplitude. However, the frequency of the primary peak is not affected

Objetivo avaliar as habilidades de manipulação do AASI do tipo open fit em indivíduos deficientes auditivos idosos, por meio do instrumento denominado Practical Hearing Aid Skills Test (PHAST), traduzido como Teste de Habilidades Práticas com Aparelho Auditivo. Métodos no estudo, desenvolvido na Divisão de Saúde Auditiva, participaram 18 idosos (idade entre 60 e 87 anos) deficientes auditivos, sendo 7 homens e 11 mulheres, novos usuários AASI tipo de open fit. Para a metodologia, na primeira etapa a pesquisadora realizou a orientação sobre o AASI aos deficientes auditivos e ao seu cuidador e, na segunda, após aproximadamente 1 mês de uso do dispositivo, foi aplicado o instrumento PHAST, o qual contém 8 questões na forma de tarefas práticas referentes ao manipulação do AASI para classificar a desenvoltura do indivíduo. Resultados foi constatado que nas tarefas referentes à limpeza do AASI e ao uso ao telefone, os indivíduos revelaram maior dificuldade de executá-las expondo as menores pontuações, em contrapartida às tarefas referentes à remoção do AASI e à abertura do compartimento de bateria, os indivíduos realizaram com maior facilidade. Quanto aos resultados do desempenho dos participantes a classificação final foi: 33,33% excelente, 22,22% boa, 27,78% satisfatório e 16,67% pobre. Conclusão 55,55% dos idosos deficientes auditivos realizaram adequadamente as tarefas referentes à manipulação do AASI open fit, obtendo classificação final no instrumento PHAST excelente e boa.

Purpose to evaluate the skills of handling the type of hearing aids in open fit hearing impaired elderly people, using the instrument called Practical Hearing Aid Skills Test (PHAST). Methods in the study, developed in Auditory Health Division, including 18 elderly (aged 60 to 87 years) hearing impaired, 7 men and 11 women, new users of open fit hearing aid type. For the methodology, the first step the researcher carried out the guidance on hearing aids for the hearing impaired and the second, after approximately 1 month of use of the device, applied the instrument PHAST, which contains eight questions in the form of practical tasks regarding the handling of hearing aids to classify the resourcefulness of the individual. Results we found that the tasks related to cleaning the hearing aid and the use of telephone, the subjects experienced greater difficulty in exposing them to run with lower scores, however the tasks related to the removal of HA and opening the battery compartment, subjects performed with greater ease. As for the overall performance of the participants, the results were 33,33% excellent, 22,22% good, 27,78% satisfactory and 16,67% poor. Conclusion 55,55% of hearing impaired elderly performed the tasks for properly handling the open fit hearing aids, obtaining the final ranking instrument PHAST excellent or good.

OBJETIVO: o objetivo deste estudo é apresentar as etapas do processo de confecção da cápsula do aparelho de amplificação sonora individual intra-aural por meio da digitalização. MÉTODO: foram utilizadas otoplásticas e os equipamentos Legato para realizar o escaneamento e Envisiontec para sinterização, ambos disponibilizados pela empresa Phonak. RESULTADOS: os resultados sinalizam para cápsula de aparelho de amplificação sonora individual intra-aurais, plenamente satisfatórias, sendo constatada todas as vantagens documentadas pelo fabricante. CONCLUSÃO: a nova técnica de confecção de cápsula por meio de processo de digitalização demonstrou ser eficaz com alta qualidade e mantendo a impressão fiel da orelha, além de durabilidade significativa.

PURPOSE: the objective of this study is to present the steps involved in making the capsule of intra-aural hearing aids through scanning. METHOD: we used the Legato otoplasty equipment in order to perform scanning and Enisiontec for sintering, both provided by the company Phonak. RESULTS: the results point out to capsule-ear hearing aid, as being fully satisfying and with all the benefits documented by the manufacturer. CONCLUSION: a new technique in order to make the capsule through the scanning process has been proven effective and with high quality and keeping the faithful imprint of the ear, in addition to significant durability.

O trato olivococlear medial eferente, ao ser estimulado por ruído contralateral, ipsilateral ou bilateralmente em relação à orelha testada, altera a amplitude da resposta das emissões otoacústicas, reduzindo-a ou suprimindo-a, resultando no efeito de redução/supressão das emissões otoacústicas. Diferenças nos padrões de supressão/redução das emissões otoacústicas entre as orelhas foram documentadas internacionalmente, porém não há trabalhos nacionais que investigaram a dominância lateral do efeito. OBJETIVO: Comparar a presença efeito de supressão/redução das emissões otoacústicas e sua amplitude no que se refere à dominância lateral em indivíduos adultos audiologicamente normais. MATERIAL E MÉTODO: Clínico e experimental. A casuística foi composta por 75 indivíduos. A metodologia foi o modo convencional, com clique linear na intensidade de 60 dB nível de pressão sonora e o ruído branco, como estímulo contralateral, em 60 dB NPS. RESULTADOS: Não foram observadas diferenças estatisticamente significantes entre os resultados da orelha direita comparados à esquerda quanto à assimetria do tamanho da amplitude das emissões otoacústicas e quanto à presença do efeito de supressão/redução. CONCLUSÃO: Não há dominância lateral quanto ao tamanho da amplitude das emissões otoacústicas com presença do efeito de supressão/redução na população.

A pon stimulation by contralateral, ipsilateral or bilateral noise, the medial olivocochlear efferent tract changes the amplitude of otoacoustic emissions relative to the tested ear, reducing or removing it; this resulted in a reduction/suppression effect of otoacoustic emissions. Differences in patterns of elimination/reduction of otoacoustic emissions between ears have been documented worldwide; there are, however, no Brazilian studies investigating the effect of lateral dominance. AIMS: To compare the effect of the presence of deletion/reduction of otoacoustic emissions and their amplitude relative to lateral dominance in normal hearing adults. METHODS: A clinical and experimental study. The sample comprised 75 individuals. The methodology was conventional - linear click intensity of 60 dB SPL; white noise was contralateral stimulation at 60 dB SPL. DESCRIPTION OF RESULTS: There were no statistically significant differences between right and left ear results, in terms of asymmetry of the degree of otoacoustic emissions and the presence of suppression/reduction. CONCLUSION: There is no lateral dominance in the degree of otoacoustic emissions in the presence of suppression/reduction in the study population.

OBJETIVO: investigar quais são as estratégias de comunicação, segundo a natureza conforme a classificação de Boèchat (1992) utilizada por indivíduos deficientes auditivos com neuropatia/dessincronia auditiva. MÉTODOS: para verificar a utilização ou não das estratégias de comunicação e quais as de maior e menor ocorrência foi aplicado nos indivíduos portadores de neuropatia/dessincronia auditiva o questionário elaborado por Boèchat em 1992, o qual pontua as estratégias de comunicação segundo a classificação de sua natureza. RESULTADOS: os resultados revelam que todos os participantes do estudo recorrem ao uso das estratégias de comunicação como forma de amenizar o déficit auditivo, sendo que todas as estratégias são utilizadas. As estratégias de comunicação de natureza cognitiva são as mais utilizadas, enquanto que as desistivas são as menos utilizadas por indivíduos com neuropatia/dessincronia auditiva usuários ou não de dispositivo de amplificação sonora. CONCLUSÃO: conclui-se que o emprego das estratégias de comunicação é importante para todos os indivíduos com neuropatia/dessincronia auditiva como alternativa para facilitar a comunicação.

PURPOSE: to investigate which communication strategies, according to Boèchat (1992) classification, used by hearing impaired individuals with auditory neuropathy/dys-synchrony. METHODS: a questionnaire prepared by Boèchat (1992) was applied, scoring the communication strategies. The questionnaire was used to check if the individuals with auditory neuropathy/dys-synchrony use or not communication strategies and to check their highest and lowest occurrence. RESULTS: the results show that all participants use communication strategies as a way to reduce hearing loss problems, and that all strategies are used. Cognitive-nature communication strategies are the most used, while the desisting ones are the least used by people with auditory neuropathy/dys-synchrony, users or nonusers of some hearing device. CONCLUSION: the use of communication strategies is important for all individuals with auditory neuropathy/dys-synchrony as an alternative to make easier the communication.

Frequentemente, os indivíduos com perda auditiva têm dificuldade de entender a fala no ambiente ruidoso. OBJETIVO: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar clinicamente o desempenho dos indivíduos adultos com deficiência auditiva neurossensorial, com relação à percepção da fala, utilizando o aparelho de amplificação sonora individual digital com o algoritmo de redução de ruído denominado Speech Sensitive Processing, ativado e desativado na presença de um ruído. MATERIAL E MÉTODO: Este estudo de casos foi realizado em 32 indivíduos com deficiência auditiva neurossensorial de graus leve, moderado ou leve a moderado. Foi realizada a avaliação por meio de um teste de percepção de fala, onde se pesquisou o reconhecimento de sentenças na presença de um ruído, para obter a relação sinal/ruído, utilizando o aparelho auditivo digital. RESULTADOS: O algoritmo pôde proporcionar benefício para a maioria dos indivíduos deficientes auditivos, na pesquisa da relação sinal/ruído e os resultados apontaram diferença estatisticamente significante na condição em que o algoritmo encontrava-se ativado, comparado quando o algoritmo não se encontrava ativado. CONCLUSÃO: O uso do algoritmo de redução de ruído deve ser pensado como alternativa clínica, pois observamos a eficácia desse sistema na redução do ruído, melhorando a percepção da fala.

Often, individuals with hearing loss have difficulties understanding speech in noisy environments. AIM: It was the aim of this study to assess the performance of adult individuals with sensorineural hearing loss, associated with speech perception using digital hearing aids with a sound reduction algorithm called Speech Sensitive Processing, on and off, in the presence of noise. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This case study was performed with 32 individuals with sensorineural hearing loss of mild, moderate or mild to moderate level. Our evaluation involved a speech perception test, where we investigated the recognition of sentences in noise, in order to get a signal/noise ratio, with a digital hearing aid. Result DESCRIPTION: The algorithm provided a benefit for most hearing impaired individuals, in the investigation of signal/noise ratio and the results pointed to a statistically significant difference when the algorithm was on, compared to when the algorithm was off. CONCLUSION: The use of a sound reduction algorithm must be considered as a clinical alternative - since we observed an efficacy in noise reduction and heightened speech perception.
