BACKGROUND Leishmania tarentolae is a non-pathogenic species found in lizards representing an important model for Leishmania biology. However, several aspects of this Sauroleishmania remain unknown to explain its low level of virulence. OBJECTIVES We reported several aspects of L. tarentolae biology including glycoconjugates, proteolytic activities and metabolome composition in comparison to pathogenic species (Leishmania amazonensis, Leishmania braziliensis, Leishmania infantum and Leishmania major). METHODS Parasites were cultured for extraction and purification of lipophosphoglycan (LPG), immunofluorescence probing with anti-gp63 and resistance against complement. Parasite extracts were also tested for proteases activity and metabolome composition. FINDINGS Leishmania tarentolae does not express LPG on its surface. It expresses gp63 at lower levels compared to pathogenic species and, is highly sensitive to complement-mediated lysis. This species also lacks intracellular/extracellular activities of proteolytic enzymes. It has metabolic differences with pathogenic species, exhibiting a lower abundance of metabolites including ABC transporters, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and steroids, TCA cycle, glycine/serine/threonine metabolism, glyoxylate/dicarboxylate metabolism and pentose-phosphate pathways. Abstract Genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors play an important role in the genesis of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D). RESUMO Objetivo Verificar a associação entre a restrição à participação decorrente de perda auditiva e a autopercepção da saúde, do suporte social e da qualidade de vida em pessoas idosas. Método Estudo com delineamento transversal, observacional, descritivo e com abordagem quantitativa dos dados. Foi utilizado um banco de dados com informações coletadas em um município brasileiro de médio porte, sendo incluídas no estudo 235 pessoas cadastradas em cinco unidades de Estratégia de Saúde da Família. ABSTRACT Purpose To verify the association between participation restriction due to hearing loss and self-perception of health, social support, and quality of life in elderly people. Methods This is a cross-sectional, observational, and descriptive study with a quantitative data approach. A database with information collected in a medium-sized Brazilian municipality was used. The study was conducted with 235 elderly people registered in five Family Health Strategy Units. Sociodemographic and health information and the results of the following questionnaires were used: Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly – Screening Version (HHIE-S), Medical Outcomes Study (MOS) Social Support Survey, Subjective Health Assessment, and Short-Form 6-Dimension (SF-6D) Health and Quality of Life Index. Groups with and without participation restriction were compared according to sociodemographic, health, social support, and quality of life variables. A multivariate binary logistic regression method was employed to evaluate the associations between the independent variables and participation restriction. Results The group with participation restriction is composed of older individuals with lower quality of life and poorer self-perception of health. Poorer self-perception of health was the only predictor of participation restriction related to hearing loss. Conclusion Participation restriction is associated with poorer self-perception of health. ABSTRACT Rickettsiosis is a disease caused by bacteria belonging to the genus Rickettsia, and is a potentially fatal zoonotic disease of great medical and veterinary importance. ABSTRACT Objective: Intrauterine environment can induce fetal metabolic programming that predisposes to adiposity-related chronic diseases in its lifespan. We examined the associations of parental nutritional status and gestational weight gain with offspring body composition in early adulthood. Materials and methods: This is cross-sectional analysis of female participants of the NutriHS who were submitted to questionnaires, clinical examinations and body composition assessed by DXA. Association of pre-conception parental BMI and maternal gestational weight gain (exposures) with body composition measurements (outcomes) were analyzed using multiple linear models adjusted for Directed Acyclic Graphs-based covariables (maternal and paternal educational level, maternal age, and tobacco, alcohol and/or drugs use). The sample included 124 women (median 28 (24-31) years) with a mean BMI of 25.4 ± 4.7 kg/m2. Results: No association between previous paternal BMI and offspring’s body composition was detected. In the fully adjusted linear regression model, maternal BMI was associated with offspring’s total lean mass (β = 0.66, p = 0.001), appendicular skeletal muscle mass index (ASMI) (β = 0.11, p = 0.003) and fat mass index (FMI) (β = 0.03, p = 0.039). Gestational weight gain was associated with increased offspring’s BMI (OR 1.12 [95% CI 1.02-1.20], p = 0.01). Resumo Objetivou-se analisar os 100 artigos mais citados em Odontologia, com foco na liderança feminina na pesquisa odontológica. Os artigos foram identificados utilizando-se a base de dados Web of Science Core Collection (WoS-CC) na categoria ‘Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine’. O gênero dos autores foi avaliado por meio do WoS-CC, Scopus, ResearchGate, mídias sociais, sites institucionais e um software que atribui gênero de acordo com o primeiro nome (https://genderapi.io). As características dos autores em papéis de liderança foram identificadas, como afiliação, histórico de publicação, número de citações, fator H e i500. Os 100 trabalhos mais citados em Odontologia foram de autoria de 394 pesquisadores, sendo 326 (82,7%) homens e 68 (17,3%) mulheres - foram 4,8 autores homens para cada mulher. Entre os primeiros autores, havia 11,3 homens para cada mulher. Entre os últimos autores, havia 7 homens para cada mulher. Entre os primeiros/últimos autores dos 100 artigos mais citados, 18 eram mulheres. Abstract This study aimed to analyze the 100 most-cited papers in Dentistry, with a focus on female leadership in dental research. Papers were retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection (WoS- CC) in the category ‘Dentistry, Oral Surgery & Medicine’. Gender was assessed through WoS-CC, Scopus, ResearchGate, social media, institutional websites, and software that assigns gender according to first names (https://genderapi.io). Characteristics of authors in leadership roles were retrieved, such as affiliation, publication history, citations, H factor, and i500. The 100 most-cited papers in Dentistry were authored by 394 researchers, 326 (82.7%) men, and 68 (17.3%) women - there were 4.8 male authors for each female. Among the lead authors, there were 11.3 males for each female. Among female senior authors, there were 7 males for each female. Among lead/senior authors of the 100 most-cited papers (first and last authors, respectively), 18 were women. There was an increase in the participation of women in the top cited papers regardless of authorship role across the six decades, with a peak of two female authors in the first decade of the 21st century. Resumen La división sexual del trabajo ocasiona iniquidad entre los géneros, así como situaciones de violencia dirigidas a las mujeres en el entorno laboral. En el ámbito farmacéutico, la mayoría de las mujeres y la inserción en múltiples escenarios, que implican contacto con el público y asociaciones profesionales diferenciadas, potencian la exposición a la violencia. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio fue analizar las situaciones de violencia experimentadas por las farmacéuticas en el entorno laboral. Para esto, se utilizó un método cualitativo, con análisis de contenido, realizado en el software NVivo®, de una encuesta en línea, respondida por farmacéuticas (n=381) registradas en el Consejo Regional de Farmacia de Minas Gerais, Brasil. A consecuencia, se identificaron cuatro categorías: ‘Conviviendo con falta de respeto, amenazas y vulnerabilidad’, ‘el sexismo y el machismo estructural que cala, disminuye y atormentó’, ‘la discriminación contra la mujer como obstáculo a la equidad’ y ‘el acoso sexual y la objeción de la mujer’. Abstract The sexual division of labor causes inequality between genders, as well as situations of violence directed to women in the workplace. In the pharmaceutical area, the majority of women and insertion in multiple scenarios, involving contact with public and differentiated professional partnerships, enhance exposure to violence. Thus, the objective of this study was to analyze situations of violence experienced by pharmacists in the workplace. For this, a qualitative method was used, with content analysis, performed in the NVivo® software, of an online survey, answered by pharmacists (n=381) registered in the Regional Pharmacy Council of Minas Gerais, Brazil. As a result, four categories were identified: ‘Living with disrespect, threats and vulnerability,’ ‘Sexism and structural chauvinism that shuts down, diminishes and torments,’ ‘Discrimination against women as an obstacle to equity’ and ‘Sexual harassment and objectification of women.’ Several expressions of violence in the labor environment emerged from multiple aggressors. Resumen Objetivos: estimar la prevalencia de actividad física en el tiempo libre y comportamiento sedentario de adultos en Brasil. Métodos: estudio seccional, poblacional, de la muestra de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud de 2019 a partir de lo cual, se estimó la prevalencia ponderada (porcentaje e intervalo de confianza del 95%) de actividad física (general y aeróbica), la inactividad física y el comportamiento sedentario. Abstract Objectives: to estimate the prevalence of leisure-time physical activity and sedentary behavior in adults in Brazil. Methods: this was a cross-sectional, population-based study carried out in a sample of 88,531 Brazilians, using data from the 2019 National Health Survey; leisure-time physical activity (overall and aerobic exercise) was measured according to the World Health Organization guidelines; the weighted prevalence and respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) of physical activity, physical inactivity and sedentary behavior were estimated. Results: according to the selected sample, 26.4% (95%CI 25.9;27.1) of Brazilian adults were physically active, 14.0% (95%CI 13.5;14.4) were insufficiently physically active and 59.5% (95%CI 58.8;60.2) were physically inactive; sedentary behavior ≥ 6 hours was reported by 30.1% (95%CI 29.5;30.8) of the population; only 8.6% (95%CI 8.2;8.9) met the recommendations for muscle-strengthening activities. Conclusion: most Brazilian adults were physically inactive and did not meet international recommendations for leisure-time physical activity and reduction in sedentary behavior. Resumo Objetivos: estimar a prevalência de atividade física no tempo livre e comportamento sedentário em adultos no Brasil. Métodos: estudo seccional, populacional, na amostra de 88.531 brasileiros da Pesquisa Nacional de Saúde de 2019; a atividade física (geral e modalidades aeróbias) no tempo livre foi mensurada conforme as diretrizes da Organização Mundial da Saúde; estimaram-se as prevalências ponderadas, e respectivos intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC95%), de atividade física, inatividade física e tempo sedentário. Resultados: a partir da amostra selecionada, 26,4% (IC95% 25,9;27,1) dos adultos brasileiros eram fisicamente ativos, 14,0% (IC95% 13,5;14,4) eram insuficientemente ativos e 59,5% (IC95% 58,8;60,2) eram inativos; o tempo sedentário ≥ 6 horas foi relatado por 30,1% (IC95% 29,5;30,8) da população; apenas 8,6% (IC95% 8,2;8,9) atenderam às recomendações de atividade física para fortalecimento muscular. Conclusão: a maioria dos brasileiros adultos era inativa e não atendeu às recomendações internacionais de atividade física no tempo livre e restrição de tempo sedentário. Abstract Introduction Ideal timing of Renal Replacement Therapy (RRT) discontinuation in Acute Kidney Injury (AKI) is still unknown. We aimed to study the role of creatinine-related variables in predicting RRT successful discontinuation and to propose a clinical predictive score. Methods In this single-centre retrospective study, we evaluated all AKI patients in whom RRT was interrupted for at least 48 hours. Patients who were still RRT-independent 7 days after initial RRT cessation were included in the “Success” group and opposed to the “Failure” group. We evaluated baseline characteristics and variables collected at the time of RRT interruption, as well as the Kinetic estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (KeGFR), the simple variation in serum Creatinine (ΔsCr), and the incremental creatinine ratio on the first three days after RRT interruption. Multivariable analysis was performed to evaluate prediction of success. Internal validation using a simple binomial generalized regression model with Lasso estimation and 5-fold cross validation method was performed. Results We included 124 patients, 49 in the “Failure” group and 75 in the “Success” group. All creatinine-related variables predicted success in simple and multiple logistic regression models. The best model generated a clinical score based on the odds ratio obtained for each variable and included urine output, non-renal SOFA score, fluid balance, serum urea, serum potassium, blood pH, and the variation in sCr values after RRT discontinuation. The score presented an area under the ROC of 0.86 (95% CI 0.76‒1.00). Conclusion Creatinine variation between the first 2 consecutive days after RRT discontinuation might predict success in RRT discontinuation. The developed clinical score based on these variables might be a useful clinical decision tool to guide hemodialysis catheter safe removal. RESUMEN Objetivo: analizar el significado atribuido al papel del enfermero en el cuidado de la salud mental en el contexto de los Centros de Atención Psicosocial del Niño y del Adolescente. Métodos: investigación con enfoque cualitativo, anclada en el paradigma de la complejidad. La recolección de datos se realizó a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas en línea con diez enfermeros de São Paulo, entre marzo y septiembre de 2022, siendo analizados temáticamente. Resultados: se develaron la diversidad y especificidad de la clínica de salud mental infanto-juvenil, con la necesidad de una atención ampliada, territorial e intersectorial, además de una formación fragmentada en el área. Existía la necesidad de una deconstrucción del ser enfermero para posibilitar la producción de prácticas más inclusivas y salutogénicas. Consideraciones finales: se refuerza la necesidad de formación de enfermeros con conocimientos y habilidades adecuados para el cuidado de la salud mental de los niños, adolescentes y sus familias, así como la educación permanente de los equipos de trabajo. ABSTRACT Objective: to analyze the meaning attributed to nurses’ role in mental health care in Child and Adolescent Psychosocial Care Centers. Methods: qualitative research, anchored in the paradigm of complexity. Data collection was carried out through online semi-structured interviews with ten nurses from São Paulo, between March and September 2022, being analyzed thematically. Results: the diversity and specificity of a child and adolescent mental health clinic, with the need for expanded, territorial and intersectoral care, were unveiled in addition to a fragmented training in the area. There was a need for a deconstruction of being a nurse to make it possible to produce more inclusive and salutogenic practices. Final considerations: the need for training nurses with adequate knowledge and skills to care for the mental health of children, adolescents and their families is reinforced as well as permanent education of working teams. Resumen Objetivos: estimar la prevalencia de actividad física en el tiempo libre y comportamiento sedentario de adultos en Brasil. Métodos: estudio seccional, poblacional, de la muestra de la Encuesta Nacional de Salud de 2019 a partir de lo cual, se estimó la prevalencia ponderada (porcentaje e intervalo de confianza del 95%) de actividad física (general y aeróbica), la inactividad física y el comportamiento sedentario. Resultados: según la muestra elegida, 26,4% (IC95% 25,9;27,1) son físicamente activos, 59,5% (IC95% 58,8;60,2) son inactivos, 14,0% (IC95% 13,5;14,4) son insuficientemente activos y 30,1% (IC95% 29,5;30,8) pasan ≥6 horas sedentarios en su tiempo libre; sólo el 8,6% (IC95% 8,2;8,9) de los adultos cumple con las recomendaciones de actividad física para fortalecimiento muscular. Conclusión: la mayoría de los adultos brasileños son inactivos, no cumplen con las recomendaciones internacionales de actividad física en el tiempo libre y la restricción del tiempo sedentario.

Abstract Objectives: to estimate the prevalence of leisure-time physical activity and sedentary behavior in adults in Brazil. Methods: this was a cross-sectional, population-based study carried out in a sample of 88,531 Brazilians, using data from the 2019 National Health Survey; leisure-time physical activity (overall and aerobic exercise) was measured according to the World Health Organization guidelines; the weighted prevalence and respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) of physical activity, physical inactivity and sedentary behavior were estimated. Results: according to the selected sample, 26.4% (95%CI 25.9;27.1) of Brazilian adults were physically active, 14.0% (95%CI 13.5;14.4) were insufficiently physically active and 59.5% (95%CI 58.8;60.2) were physically inactive; sedentary behavior ≥ 6 hours was reported by 30.1% (95%CI 29.5;30.8) of the population; only 8.6% (95%CI 8.2;8.9) met the recommendations for muscle-strengthening activities. Conclusion: most Brazilian adults were physically inactive and did not meet international recommendations for leisure-time physical activity and reduction in sedentary behavior.

Resumen Introducción: La epidemia de VIH y Sida representa un gran problema de salud pública actualmente. En Brasil, se estima que solo el 83 % de las personas que viven con el VIH conocen su diagnóstico y solo el 46 % tiene una carga viral indetectable. Esto resalta la necesidad de estudios que comprendan el VIH y el Sida en Brasil, para mejorar las políticas públicas. El objetivo de este estudio es realizar una encuesta de datos sobre el perfil epidemiológico de los pacientes con Sida en el sudeste de Brasil. Métodos: Es un estudio epidemiológico descriptivo y cuantitativo. Los datos se obtuvieron del SINAN. El análisis se restringió al período de enero de 2010 a junio de 2019. Resultados: En el período analizado, el año 2017 presentó la mayor prevalencia de la enfermedad (11,97 %). Existe una tendencia creciente en el número de casos entre 2010 y 2014 y una tendencia decreciente en los últimos años. Rio de Janeiro fue el estado con mayor número de casos nuevos (21,90 %) en la Región Sudeste. Se observó que los grupos con mayor incidencia de casos fueron: hombres (71,1 %), jóvenes y adultos (79,37 %), blancos (46,67 %), escuela secundaria completa (19,71 %) y heterosexuales (46,94 %). Sin embargo, se observó un aumento relativo en la incidencia entre hombres homosexuales y entre pardos. Además, la principal forma de transmisión fue la sexual (78,09 %). Conclusión: Se necesita más investigación sobre el tema, para monitorear la epidemiología del Sida y orientar medidas gubernamentales eficientes.

Resumo Introdução: A epidemia de HIV e Aids representa um dos maiores problemas de saúde pública atualmente. No Brasil, estima-se que apenas 83 % das pessoas vivendo com HIV conhecem seu diagnóstico e somente 46 % possuem carga viral indetectável. Isso evidencia a necessidade de estudos voltados à compreensão do HIV e da Aids no Brasil, para a melhora das políticas públicas. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo é realizar um levantamento de dados sobre o perfil epidemiológico de pacientes portadores de Aids no Sudeste brasileiro. Métodos: Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico descritivo, de caráter quantitativo. Os dados foram obtidos no SINAN. A análise restringiu-se ao período de janeiro de 2010 a junho de 2019. Resultados: No período analisado, o ano de 2017 apresentou a maior prevalência da doença (11,97 %). Além disso, observa-se uma tendência de crescimento no número de casos entre 2010 e 2014 e uma tendência decrescente nos últimos anos. O Rio de Janeiro foi o estado com maior número de novos casos (21,90 %) da Região Sudeste. Observou-se que os grupos com maior incidência de casos foram: sexo masculino (71,1 %), jovens e adultos (79,37 %), cor branca (46,67 %), ensino médio completo (19,71 %) e heterossexuais (46,94 %). Contudo, foi observado um aumento relativo da incidência entre homens homossexuais e entre os pardos. Além disso, a principal forma de transmissão foi via sexual (78,09 %). Conclusão: O estudo concluiu que são necessárias mais pesquisas acerca do tema, para acompanhar a epidemiologia da Aids e orientar medidas governamentais eficientes.

Abstract Introduction: The HIV and Aids epidemic represents one of the biggest public health problems today. In Brazil, it is estimated that only 83 % of people living with HIV know their diagnosis and only 46 % have an undetectable viral load. This highlights the need for studies aimed at understanding HIV and Aids in Brazil, to improve public policies. Thus, this study aims to conduct a survey of data on the epidemiological profile of Aids patients in Southeast Brazil. Methods: It is a descriptive, quantitative epidemiological study. The data was extracted from SINAN. The analysis was restricted to the period from January 2010 to June 2019. Results: In the analyzed period, 2017 had the highest prevalence of the disease (11,97 %). In addition, there was an increase in the number of cases between 2010 and 2014 and a drop over the last few years. Rio de Janeiro was the state with the highest number of new cases (21,90 %) in the Southeast Region. Results: The groups with the highest incidence of cases were: man (71,1 %), young and adults (79,37 %), white (46,67 %), high school graduates (19,71 %) and heterosexuals (46,94 %). However, a relative increase in incidence was observed among homosexual men and among browns. Also, sexual transmission was the most prevalent (78,09 %). Conclusion: The study concluded that more research on the topic is needed, to monitor the epidemiology of Aids and to guide efficient government measures.

Resumo O objetivo deste artigo é identificar fatores associados à hipertensão arterial sistêmica (HAS) não diagnosticada entre adultos mais velhos no Brasil. Foram avaliados 5.416 participantes hipertensos do Estudo Longitudinal da Saúde dos Idosos Brasileiros (ELSI-Brasil). HAS não diagnosticada foi definida como a presença de pressão arterial (PA) ≥140/90 mmHg sem diagnóstico prévio. Regressão logística foi utilizada para verificar fatores associados à HAS não diagnosticada. No estudo, 19,8% dos hipertensos avaliados não relataram diagnóstico prévio de HAS. Ter entre 60 e 69 anos (OR: 0,68, IC95% 0,55-0,85) e 70 e 79 (OR: 0,67, IC95% 0,51-0,89), cor preta (OR: 0,67, IC95% 0,49-0,91), ser obeso (OR: 0,51, IC95% 0,40-0,65), ter uma doença crônica (OR: 0,54, IC95% 0,44-0,66) ou mais (OR: 0,32, IC95% 0,25-0,42) e consultas no último ano (OR: 0,47, IC95% 0,38-0,58) foram fatores associados a menores chances de HAS não diagnosticada, enquanto sexo masculino (OR: 1,27, IC95% 1,05-1,54), baixo peso (OR: 1,33, IC95% 1,00-1,78) e consumo de álcool (OR: 1,36, IC95% 1,09-1,68) elevaram as chances para apresentar a doença não diagnosticada. As características identificadas nesse estudo devem ser observadas em serviços de saúde, ampliando o diagnóstico precoce e prevenindo a progressão da PA e suas futuras consequências.

A total of 5,416 hypertensive participants in the Longitudinal Study of the Health of Elderly Brazilians (ELSI-BRAZIL) were evaluated. Undiagnosed SAH was identified by mean blood pressure (BP) ≥140/90 mmHg without previous SAH diagnosis. Logistic regression was used to verify factors associated with undiagnosed SAH. In this study, 19.8% of the hypertensive patients evaluated did not report a previous diagnosis of SAH. Age between 60 to 69 (OR: 0.68, 95%CI 0.55-0.85) and 70 to79 (OR: 0.67, 95%CI 0.51-0.89), being black (OR: 0.67, 95%CI 0.49-0.91), obese (OR: 0.51, 95%CI 0.40-0.65), having one chronic disease (OR: 0.54, 95%CI 0.44-0.66) or more (OR: 0.32, 95%CI 0.25-0.42) and medical consultations in the last year (OR: 0.47, 95%CI 0.38-0.58) were factors associated with lower chances of undiagnosed SAH, while being male (OR: 1.27, 95%CI 1,05-1,54), presenting low body weight (OR: 1.33, 95%CI 1,00-1,78) and alcohol consumption (OR: 1.36, 95%CI 1,09-1,68) increased the chances of having the undiagnosed condition. The characteristics identified in this study needs to be observed in health services, expanding early diagnosis and preventing the progression of BP and its future consequences.
