Resumen El herbicida tembotrione tiene un buen control de malezas y puede ser una herramienta importante en el cultivo del sorgo. Sin embargo, este herbicida está registrado en Brasil solo para maíz. Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar la selectividad de la tembotrione asociada a la atrazine en diferentes dosis y etapas de desarrollo del grano de sorgo. Se realizaron dos experimentos en Rio Verde-GO y Montividiu-GO, Brasil en 2018. Se adoptó un diseño de bloques al azar con cuatro repeticiones, en un factorial 3x2+1+1, con tres etapas de desarrollo (V3, V5 y V7), dos dosis de tembotrione (37,8 y 75,6 g ha-1) asociada al herbicida atrazine (1,000 g ha-1), un tratamiento adicional con solo atrazine en V3 más un testigo sin herbicida. Los resultados permitieron observar síntomas visibles de fitotoxicidad cuando se aplicó la asociación entre los herbicidas tembotrione y atrazine en la etapa V3 y V5. Los síntomas incluyeron reducciones en la altura de la planta y el diámetro del tallo del sorgo y reducciones en la longitud de la panícula con la aplicación en la etapa V5. La aplicación de tembotrione en asociación con atrazine en V3 y V5 resultó en una reducción de la acumulación de masa seca en la parte aérea de las plantas de sorgo, pero sin influencia en la masa de mil granos, independientemente de la etapa de aplicación. El herbicida tembotrione en dosis de 37,8 g ha-1 en asociación con atrazine en dosis de 1,000 g ha-1 fue selectivo para sorgo en grano cuando se aplicó en V7, sin causar reducción en el rendimiento de grano.

Abstract The herbicide tembotrione is effective against grassy weeds constituting an important tool in sorghum crops. However, in Brazil, this herbicide is only registered for corn. This study aimed to evaluate the selectiveness of tembotrione combined with atrazine at different doses and developmental stages of grain sorghum. Two experiments were conducted in Rio Verde and Montividiu, state of Goiás, Brazil, in 2018. A randomized block design with four replications, in a 3x2+1+1 factorial arrangement, tested three developmental stages (V3, V5 and V7), two doses of tembotrione (37.8 and 75.6 g ha-1) combined with the herbicide atrazine (1,000 g ha-1), an additional treatment only with atrazine at V3 and a control, free of herbicide. Evident phytotoxicity was observed with the combination of tembotrione and atrazine at V3 and V5 stages. Symptoms included reductions in plant height, sorghum stem diameter, panicle length, and cumulative dry mass of sorghum plant shoots. However, there was no influence on thousand grains mass, regardless of application stages. Tembotrione at 37.8 g ha-1 combined with atrazine at 1,000 g ha-1 was selective for grain sorghum when applied at V7, without affecting grain yield.

Resumo Introdução A manutenção da saúde bucal em pacientes internados é essencial, especialmente para evitar complicações decorrentes da doença periodontal, que não apenas afetam a saúde bucal, mas também podem agravar problemas sistêmicos durante a hospitalização. Objetivo: Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o conhecimento da equipe de enfermagem em relação ao manejo da doença periodontal e sua associação com doenças sistêmicas. Material e método Este estudo observacional transversal foi conduzido em um hospital geral de referência do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) do Brasil. Um total de 504 profissionais de enfermagem completaram um questionário autoaplicável com 24 questões, abordando procedimentos de cuidados bucais e a importância da saúde bucal em pacientes hospitalizados. Os dados foram analisados por meio de análise descritiva e teste qui-quadrado (α = 0,05). Resultado A maioria dos entrevistados (97,8%) acreditava que infecções bucais podem afetar a saúde geral do paciente e que a higiene bucal é importante durante a hospitalização. No entanto, foram identificados déficits de conhecimento. O efeito oral da doença periodontal foi considerado moderado por 49,3% dos participantes, e 74,6% acreditavam que o açúcar era a causa mais comum da doença periodontal. Conclusão Profissionais de enfermagem reconhecem a importância da manutenção da higiene bucal e a relação entre doença periodontal e doenças sistêmicas. No entanto, seu conhecimento prático em higiene bucal é limitado. Abstract Introduction The maintenance of oral health in inpatients is essential, particularly to avoid complications arising from periodontal disease, which not only affect oral health but can also exacerbate systemic issues during hospitalization. Objective: This study aimed to assess nursing staff’s knowledge regarding the management of periodontal disease and its association with systemic diseases. Material and method This cross-sectional observational study was conducted in a general referral hospital of the Brazilian National Health System (SUS). A total of 504 nursing professionals completed a self-administered 24-item questionnaire on relating to oral care procedures and the importance of oral health in hospitalized patients. Resumo O objetivo deste estudo controlado randomizado de boca dividida foi avaliar a estabilidade primária e secundária de implantes híbridos com diferentes configurações de rosca e superfícies hidrofílicas. Vinte pacientes com maxila parcialmente edêntula foram selecionados. Esses pacientes receberam dois tipos de implantes com a mesma superfície hidrofílica: Grupo CTP: Implante cilíndrico-cônico com roscas perfurantes; Grupo CTH: Implante cilíndrico-cônico com roscas perfurantes e condensadoras. Os parâmetros de estabilidade primária e secundária foram medidos por análise de torque de inserção e frequência de ressonância no momento da colocação do implante e 7, 28, 56 e 90 dias após o procedimento cirúrgico. O teste t-pareado foi utilizado para comparação dos dados de estabilidade entre os grupos. A análise estatística foi executada levando-se em consideração um nível de confiança de 95%. Constatou-se que os implantes do grupo CTH apresentaram maiores valores de estabilidade primária no momento da colocação do implante, devido ao maior ISQ (63.61 ± 9.44 vs. 40.59 ±7.46) e torque de inserção (36.92 ± 16.50 Ncm vs. 28.00 ± 14.40 Ncm), do que os implantes do grupo CTP. Implantes do grupo CTH apresentaram valores de ISQ superiores em todos os períodos de acompanhamento: 7 dias (68.67 ± 7.60 vs. 41.55 ± 9.07), 28 dias (68.61 ± 5.98 vs. 47.90 ±13.10), 56 dias (74.09 ± 3.96 vs. 55.85 ± 13.18) e 90 dias (75.45 ± 4.02 vs. 63.47 ± 6.92). Abstract This split-mouth randomized controlled trial aimed to evaluate the primary and secondary stability of hybrid implants with different thread configurations and hydrophilic surfaces. Twenty patients with a partially edentulous maxilla were selected. These patients received two types of implants with the same hydrophilic surface: CTP group: Cylindrical-Tapered implant with perforating threads; CTH: Cylindrical-Tapered implant with hybrid threads configuration (perforating and condensing threads). The primary and secondary stability parameters were measured by insertion torque and resonance frequency analysis at the time of implant placement and 7, 28, 56, and 90 days after the surgical procedure. The paired t-test was used to compare the data on the implant's stability between the groups. The statistical analysis was performed with a confidence level set at 95%. It was found that the implants in the CTH group presented higher primary stability values at the time of implant placement, due to the higher ISQ (63.61 ± 9.44 vs. 40.59 ±7.46) and insertion torque (36.92 ± 16.50 Ncm vs. 28.00 ± 14.40 Ncm), than the implants in the CTP group. The CTH group presented higher ISQ values in all follow-up periods: 7 days (68.67 ± 7.60 vs. 41.55 ± 9.07), 28 days (68.61 ± 5.98 vs. 47.90 ±13.10), 56 days (74.09 ± 3.96 vs. 55.85 ± 13.18), and 90 days (75.45 ± 4.02 vs. 63.47 ± 6.92) after implant placement. Resumo Introdução Devido a seus resultados positivos sobre o tecido ósseo o estrôncio passou a ser utilizado também como coadjuvante de processos de neoformação óssea, principalmente procedimentos cirúrgicos maxilo-faciais. Objetivo Avaliar se a suplementação de estrôncio (Sr) não radioativo melhora a osseointegração de implantes de titânio em ratos. Material e método Setenta ratos machos (Rattus Norvegicus) foram divididos aleatoriamente em 5 grupos, de acordo com a suplementação sistêmica: Controle - solução salina; SRAN50 - ranelato de estrôncio (SRAN) 50mg/kg/dia; SRAN625 - SRAN 625mg/kg/dia; SCAR/SCHL30 - carbonato de estrôncio e cloreto de estrôncio (SCAR/SCHL) 30mg/kg/dia; SCAR/SCHL365 - SCAR/SCHL 365mg/kg/dia. Os medicamentos foram administrados por gavagem, uma vez ao dia, iniciando 15 dias antes da cirurgia (1 implante de titânio em cada tíbia), e persistiram por 15 ou 60 dias. As tíbias direitas foram utilizadas para avaliação biomecânica (torque de remoção) e imuno-histoquímica (Osteocalcina – OCN e proteína morfogenética óssea - BMP-2). As esquerdas foram utilizadas para avaliação microtomográfica e histomorfométrica. Resultado Aumento do torque de remoção para SRAN625 e SCAR/SCHL365 foi observado quando comparado ao Controle, em 15 dias. Entretanto, não foram encontradas diferenças no período de 60 dias entre os grupos. A avaliação microtomográfica mostrou maior volume ósseo em 60 dias, comparado a 15 dias, para todos os grupos, exceto SCAR/SCHL30. Quando todos os grupos foram comparados, não foram observadas diferenças no período de 15 dias, enquanto no período de 60 dias SRAN625 e SCAR/SCHL365 foram estatisticamente maiores que o Controle. Na análise imuno-histoquímica, doses maiores (SRAN625 e SCAR/SCHL365) levaram a um aumento de BMP-2 em 15 dias. A análise histomorfométrica não revelou diferenças entre os grupos quanto ao contato osso-implante e área óssea ao redor das roscas do implante. Abstract Introduction Due to its positive results on bone tissue, strontium also began to be used as an adjuvant in bone neoformation processes, mainly maxillofacial surgical procedures. Objective To assess if the non-radioactive strontium (Sr) supplementation enhances the osseointegration of titanium implants in rats. Material and method Seventy male rats (Rattus Norvegicus) were randomly divided into 5 groups, according to the systemic supplementation: Control - saline solution; SRAN50 - strontium ranelate (SRAN) 50mg/kg/day; SRAN625 - SRAN 625mg/kg/day; SCAR/SCHL30 - strontium carbonate and strontium chloride (SCAR/SCHL) 30mg/kg/day; SCAR/SCHL365 - SCAR/SCHL 365mg/kg/day. The drugs were administered via gavage, once a day, starting 15 days before surgery (1 titanium implant in each tibia), and persisted for 15 or 60 days. The right tibiae were used for biomechanical (removal torque) and immunohistochemical (Osteocalcin – OCN, and bone morphogenetic protein - BMP-2) evaluation. The left were used for microtomographic, and histomorphometric evaluation. Result Increased removal torque for SRAN625 and SCAR/SCHL365 were observed when compared with the Control, in 15 days. However, no differences were found in the 60-days period among the groups. Microtomographic evaluation showed larger bone volume at 60 days, compared to 15 days, for all groups but SCAR/SCHL30. When all groups were compared, no differences were seen in the 15-days period, while in the 60-days SRAN625 and SCAR/SCHL365 were statistically higher than the Control. In the immunohistochemical analysis, higher doses (SRAN625 and SCAR/SCHL365) led to an increase of BMP-2 in 15 days. Histomorphometric analysis revealed no differences among the groups regarding bone-to-implant-contact and bone area around the implant threads. Abstract Sjogren’s disease (SjD) is an autoimmune disease that is characterized not only by the sicca symptoms it causes but also by its systemic nature, which is capable of several and not yet fully understood extraglandular manifestations. To gain a clearer understanding of these manifestations as well as a better practical approach, a panel of experts from the Brazilian Society of Rheumatology conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis on the identification of epidemiologic and clinical features of the extraglandular manifestations present in ESSDAI (EULAR Sjogren´s syndrome disease activity index), followed by a voting panel with recommendations for clinical practice. This publication is complementary to others already published and covers cutaneous and hematological manifestations, with prevalence data generated by a meta-analysis of 13 clinical or laboratory manifestations and 6 clinical management recommendations. Aim This study was performed to compare two different rat defect models (critical calvaria defects versus guided bone regeneration in the mandibular ramus) used to evaluate bone repair in grafted areas. Methods A total of 12 rats were allocated in two groups according the experimental model used to evaluate the bone repair in grafted areas: a critical sized-calvaria defect of 5 mm filled with bone graft (n=6) and a mandibular ramus filled with the bone graft associated with a Teflon dome-shaped membrane (n=6). Both groups were grafted with deproteinized bovine bone graft. After 60 days, the animals were euthanized and the samples obtained were submitted to histomorphometry analysis to evaluate the relative amount of bone, remaining bone substitute, and soft tissue within the grafted areas. Results No differences were observed between the preclinical models evaluated in relation to the amount of bone tissue formation (19.93 ± 4.55% in calvaria vs. 21.00 ± 8.20% in mandible). However, there was a smaller amount of soft tissue (43.20 ± 10.97% vs. 57.79 ± 7.61 %; p<0.01) and a greater amount of bone substitute remaining (35.80 ± 5.52% vs. 22.28 ± 4.36 %; p<0.05) in the grafted areas in the mandible compared to calvaria defect. Resumo Este estudo avaliou a influência de uma superfície de titânio modificada com flúor na osseointegração em ratos com diabetes induzida. Cento e oitenta ratos foram distribuídos aleatoriamente em 3 grupos com 60 animais cada: Grupo controle (C): Animais sem diabetes; Grupo Diabetes (D): Animais com diabetes induzida descompensada; Grupo Diabetes Controlado (CD): Animais com diabetes induzido controlado pela administração de insulina. O diabetes foi induzido por injeção de estreptozotocina. Cada animal recebeu 2 implantes na metáfise proximal da tíbia, um com superfície usinada (M) e outro com superfície de titânio modificado com flúor (F), após 4 semanas de indução do diabetes. Os animais foram submetidos à eutanásia 2, 4 e 6 semanas após a colocação do implante (n = 20 animais/grupo). A osseointegração foi avaliada pelo teste de torque de remoção do implante e pela análise histométrica dos cortes histológicos não descalcificados: 1) Contato osso-implante (%BIC); 2) Área de tecido ósseo entre as roscas do implante (%BBT). Os implantes com superfície F apresentaram maior torque de remoção do que os implantes com superfície M em todos os grupos. Abstract This study evaluated the influence of a fluoride-modified titanium surface on osseointegration in rats with induced diabetes. Military police activity is a dangerous, stressful occupation that poses health risks. Nutritional habits, physical activity, body composition and perceived stress, in addition to being interrelated, influence components of professional performance, such as work motivation, general self-efficacy and absenteeism. The objective was to compare nutritional habits, physical activity, body mass index and perceived stress of military police officers working in operational and administrative services, of both sexes, and to investigate the correlation between these variables. The Mann-Whitney U test was used for the comparative analysis and, for the correlational study, the Pearson correlation coefficient. Perceived stress and physical activity were inversely correlated (r=-0.268; p<0.001). Nutritional habits correlated significantly: with physical activity (r=0.381; p<0.001), directly; and, conversely, body mass index (r=0.256; p<0.001) and perceived stress (r=-0.201; p<0.01). Military police officers from the operational service had significantly higher body mass index (U=3695; p<0.001) and physical activity (U=3776; p<0.001) than their counterparts from the administrative service. Men had significantly higher body mass index (U=1333; p<0.001) and physical activity (U=2205; p<0.01) than women, who had significantly higher stress levels than men (U=1927; p<0.001). The correlations and significant differences observed point to the need to implement personnel and health management policies aimed at improving the lifestyle, body composition and stress of military police officers. Study limitations and future directions are discussed.

La actividad de la policía militar es una ocupación peligrosa y estresante que presenta riesgos para la salud. Hábitos alimentarios, actividad física, composición corporal y estrés percibido, además de estar interrelacionados, influyen en componentes del desempeño profesional, como motivación para el trabajo, autoeficacia general y ausentismo. El objetivo fue comparar hábitos nutricionales, actividad física, índice de masa corporal y estrés percibido de policías militares que trabajan en servicios operativos y administrativos, de ambos sexos, e investigar la correlación entre estas variables. Para el análisis comparativo se utilizó la prueba U de Mann-Whitney y, para el estudio correlacional, el coeficiente de correlación de Pearson. Estrés percibido y actividad física se correlacionaron inversamente (r=-0,268; p<0,001). Hábitos nutricionales correlacionaron significativamente: con actividad física (r=0,381; p<0,001), directamente; y, por el contrario, con índice de masa corporal (r=0,256; p<0,001) y estrés percibido (r=-0,201; p<0,01). Los policías militares del servicio operativo presentaron índice de masa corporal (U=3695; p<0,001) y actividad física (U=3776; p<0,001) significativamente mayores que sus homólogos del servicio administrativo. Hombres tenían un índice de masa corporal significativamente mayor (U=1333; p<0,001) y actividad física (U=2205; p<0,01) que las mujeres, quienes tenían niveles de estrés significativamente más altos que los hombres (U=1927; p<0,001). Las correlaciones y diferencias significativas observadas apuntan a necesidad de implementar políticas de gestión de personal y salud dirigidas a mejorar el estilo de vida, composición corporal y estrés de los policías militares. A atividade policial militar é uma ocupação perigosa, estressante e que impõe riscos à saúde. Os hábitos nutricionais, atividade física, composição corporal e estresse percebido, além de relacionarem-se entre si, influenciam componentes do desempenho profissional, tais como motivação para o trabalho, autoeficácia geral e absenteísmo. O objetivo deste estudo foi comparar hábitos nutricionais, atividade física, índice de massa corporal e estresse percebido de policiais militares que atuam no serviço operacional e administrativo, de ambos os sexos, e investigar a correlação entre essas variáveis. Utilizou-se o teste U de Mann-Whitney para a análise comparativa e, para o estudo correlacional, o coeficiente de correlação de Pearson. Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a osseointegração de uma superfície hidrofílica (jateamento + ataque ácido + imersão em solução isotônica) em comparação com uma superfície controle (jateamento + ataque ácido) usando um modelo experimental de osso de baixa densidade. Para realizar o estudo, 24 coelhos foram submetidos a instalação de 4 implantes bilateralmente no osso ilíaco: 2 implantes com superfície controle e 2 implantes com superfície hidrofílica. Os coelhos foram eutanasiados com 2, 4 e 8 semanas após a instalação dos implantes. Após a eutanásia, um implante de cada superfície foi usado para avaliar o torque de remoção, e o outro implante foi utilizado para execução de cortes histológicos não descalcificados e avaliação de contato osso implante (% BIC) bem como a fração da área tecido ósseo entre as roscas do implante (% BBT). Os implantes com superfície hidrofílica apresentaram maior %BIC (42.92 ± 2.85% vs. 29.49 ± 10.27%) e % BBT (34.32 ± 8.52% vs. 23.20 ± 6.75%) (p < 0.05) no período de 2 semanas. Além disso, a superfície hidrofílica apresentou maior torque de remoção no período de 8 semana (76.13 ± 16.00 Ncm2 vs. 52.77 ± 13.49 Ncm2) (p<0.05). Abstract The aim of this study was to evaluate the osseointegration of a hydrophilic surface (blasting + acid etching + immersion in isotonic solution) in comparison with that of a control surface (blasting + acid etching) using an experimental model of low-density bone. To perform the study, 24 rabbits were submitted to the installation of 4 implants in the iliac bone bilaterally: 2 implants with a control surface and 2 implants with a hydrophilic surface. The rabbits were euthanized at 2, 4, and 8 weeks after implant installation. After euthanasia, one implant from each surface was used to perform the removal torque analysis, and the other implant was used for the execution of non-decalcified histological sections and evaluation of the bone implant contact (% BIC) as well as the fraction of bone tissue area between the implant threads (% BBT). The implants with a hydrophilic surface presented higher %BIC (42.92 ± 2.85% vs. 29.49 ± 10.27%) and % BBT (34.32 ± 8.52% vs. 23.20 ± 6.75%) (p < 0.05) in the 2-week period. Resumo Foram analisadas tendências da mortalidade prematura por doenças crônicas não transmissíveis (DCNT) entre 1990 e 2019, as projeções até 2030 e os fatores de risco atribuíveis a estas doenças na Comunidade dos Países de Língua Portuguesa (CPLP). Utilizou-se estimativas do estudo Carga Global de Doenças e análise da carga de mortalidade prematura por DCNT para nove países da CPLP, utilizando taxas padronizadas por idade, usando-se RStudio. Portugal, Brasil, Guiné Equatorial, Angola e Guiné Bissau apresentam taxas de mortalidade prematura por DCNT em declínio e; Timor Leste, Cabo Verde, São Tomé e Príncipe e Moçambique apresentaram aumento das taxas. As projeções indicam que nenhum dos países deverá atingir as metas de redução em um terço da mortalidade prematura por DCNT até 2030. A carga de doença atribuível mostrou que os fatores de riscos mais importantes em 2019 foram: pressão arterial sistólica elevada, tabaco, riscos dietéticos, índice de massa corporal elevado e poluição do ar. Conclui-se pelas profundas diferenças na carga de DCNT entre os países, com melhores resultados em Portugal e Brasil e que nenhum país do CPLP deverá atingir a meta de redução das DCNT até 2030. Abstract The present study analyzed trends in premature mortality from Noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) between 1990 and 2019, the projections up to 2030, and the risk factors (RFs) attributable to these diseases in the Community of Portuguese Language Countries (CPLP). Estimates from the Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study and the analysis of the burden of premature mortality due to NCDs were used for nine CPLP countries, applying age-standardized rates, using RStudio. Portugal, Brazil, Equatorial Guinea, Angola, and Guinea Bissau showed declining premature mortality rates caused by NCDs, while East Timor, Cape Verde, São Tomé and Príncipe, and Mozambique showed an increase in rates. Projections indicate that none of the countries is expected to achieve the goals of reducing premature mortality due to NCDs by one third by 2030. The attributable burden of disease showed that the most important RFs in 2019 were: high systolic blood pressure (SBP), tobacco, dietary risks, high body mass index (BMI), and air pollution. It can therefore be concluded that there are profound differences in the burden of NCDs among the countries, with better results in Portugal and Brazil, and that no CPLP country is likely to reach the NCD reduction target by 2030. Resumo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da administração de nicotina na osseointegração de implantes com superfície modificada por jateamento de oxidos e ataque ácido instalados em tíbia de ratos. Foram utilizados 32 ratos que foram divididos em 2 grupos de acordo com a administração ou não de nicotina: HH - Instalação de implantes com superfícies superhidrofílicas em animais sadios; e HN - Instalação de implantes com superfícies superhidrofílicas em animais submetidos à administração de nicotina. Os animais foram eutanasiados 15 e 45 dias após a colocação do implante (n = 8). A osseointegração foi avaliada por meio de análises biomecânicas (torque de remoção), microtomografia (volume de osso ao redor dos implantes - %BV/TV) e histomorfometrica (contato osso-implante -%BIC e área óssea entre roscas do implante -%BBT). Os animais submetidos à administração de nicotina apresentaram menor torque de remoção do que os animais controle no período de 45 dias (21,88 ± 2,80 Ncm vs. 17,88 ± 2,10 Ncm). Os implantes colocados nos ratos controle apresentaram maiores %BIC (54,26 ± 6,59% vs. 39,25 ± 4,46%) e %BBT (50,57 ± 5,28% vs. 32,25 ± 5,24%) do que os implantes colocados nos animais submetidos a administração de nicotina no período de 15 dias. Abstract This study aimed to evaluate the effect of nicotine administration on the osseointegration of a superhydrophilic implants surface on rat tibiae. Thirty-two rats were used and divided into 2 groups according to the administration or not of nicotine: HH - Installation of implants with superhydrophilic surfaces in healthy animals; and HN - Installation of implants with superhydrophilic surfaces in animals subjected to nicotine administration. The animals were euthanized 15 and 45 days after implant placement (n = 8). Osseointegration was assessed by means of biomechanical analyses (removal torque), microcomputed tomography (volume of bone around the implants- %BV/TV), and histomorphometry (bone-implant contact -%BIC and the bone area between implant threads -%BBT). The animals subject to the nicotine administration presented lower removal torque than the control animals at the 45-day period (21.88 ± 2.80 Ncm vs. 17.88 ± 2.10 Ncm). The implants placed in the control rats presented higher %BIC (54.26 ± 6.59% vs. 39.25 ± 4.46%) and %BBT (50.57 ± 5.28% vs. 32.25 ± 5.24%) than the implants placed in nicotine animals at 15-day period. Resumo Introdução Exodontia de terceiro molar é um procedimento odontológico comum, frequentemente desafiador, com complicações pós-operatórias aumentadas. A necessidade de profilaxia com antibióticos nesses casos ainda é motivo de debate. Objetivo O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar o efeito da profilaxia com antibióticos no curso clínico pós-operatório das cirurgias de extração do terceiro molar. Material e método Sessenta e três pacientes foram randomicamente alocados em dois grupos posteriormente a cirurgia de exodontia dos quatro terceiros molares. Grupo ATB (N = 33) utilizou 1g de amoxicilina uma hora antes do procedimento cirúrgico e grupo CTR (N = 30) sem profilaxia antibiótica. Os dentes foram classificados de acordo com Pell & Gregory e Winter. Análises clínicas foram realizadas nos períodos de 3, 7, 14 e 30 dias após o procedimento cirúrgico. As análises consistiram na avaliação do edema, variação de abertura de boca e a cicatrização dos tecidos moles. Também foram executadas análises centradas nos pacientes por meio da aplicação da escala visual analógica (VAS) para avaliação de dor, inflamação, sangramento, dificuldade de abertura bucal e de mastigação. Resultado Não houve diferenças entre os grupos em relação ao posicionamento dos dentes. Não foi observada influência da profilaxia antibiótica nos parâmetros clínicos de cicatrização, edema e abertura de boca. Os pacientes não notaram diferenças em relação ao seu conforto no pós-operatório. Conclusão A incidência de complicações foi baixa e não foi relacionada a processos infecciosos. Abstract Introduction Third molar extraction surgery is a common dental procedure, often challenging with increased post-operative complications. The need for antibiotic prophylaxis in these cases remains debated. Objective The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of antibiotic prophylaxis on the postoperative clinical course of third molar extraction surgeries. Material and method Sixty-three patients were randomly allocated into two groups after extraction of the four third molars. ATB group (N = 33) the patients received 1g of amoxicillin one hour before the surgical procedure, CTR group (N = 30) the patients did not receive antibiotic prophylaxis. Clinical analyses were performed at 3, 7, 14, and 30 days after the surgical procedure. These analyses consisted of assessing oedema, variation in mouth opening, and soft tissue healing. Furthermore, patient-centered analyses were also carried out through the application of the visual analogue scale (VAS) to assess pain, inflammation, bleeding, difficulty opening the mouth, and chewing. Result No influence of antibiotic prophylaxis was observed on the evolution of clinical parameters of healing, oedema, and mouth opening. Patients did not notice differences regarding their comfort during the postoperative period. Conclusion The incidence of complications observed in the present study was low and was not related to infectious processes. Resumo Fundamento As complicações cardiovasculares da COVID-19 são aspectos importantes da patogênese e do prognóstico da doença. Evidências do papel prognóstico da troponina e da lesão miocárdica em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 na América Latina são ainda escassos. Objetivos Avaliar a lesão miocárdica como preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados, do registro brasileiro de COVID-19. Métodos Este estudo coorte é um subestudo do registro brasileiro de COVID-19, conduzido em 31 hospitais brasileiros de 17 cidades, de março a setembro de 2020. Os desfechos primários incluíram mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os modelos para os desfechos primários foram estimados por regressão de Poisson com variância robusta, com significância estatística de p<0,05. Resultados Dos 2925 pacientes [idade mediana de 60 anos (48-71), 57,1%], 27,3% apresentaram lesão miocárdica. A proporção de pacientes com comorbidades foi maior nos pacientes com lesão miocárdica [mediana 2 (1-2) vs. 1 (0-20)]. Os pacientes com lesão miocárdica apresentaram maiores valores medianos de peptídeo natriurético cerebral, lactato desidrogenase, creatina fosfoquinase, N-terminal do pró-peptídeo natriurético tipo B e proteína C reativa em comparação a pacientes sem lesão miocárdica. Como fatores independentes, proteína C reativa e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados com o risco de morte, e neutrófilos e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados ao risco de suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os pacientes com níveis elevados de troponina apresentaram um maior risco de morte (RR 2,03, IC95% 1,60-2,58) e suporte ventilatório mecânico (RR 1,87;IC95% 1,57-2,23), em comparação àqueles com níveis de troponina normais. Conclusão Lesão cardíaca foi um preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e necessidade de suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19. Abstract Background Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are important aspects of the disease’s pathogenesis and prognosis. Evidence on the prognostic role of troponin and myocardial injury in Latin American hospitalized COVID-19 patients is still scarce. Objectives To evaluate myocardial injury as independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized patients, from the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry. Methods This cohort study is a substudy of the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry, conducted in 31 Brazilian hospitals of 17 cities, March-September 2020. Primary outcomes included in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support. Models for the primary outcomes were estimated by Poisson regression with robust variance, with statistical significance of p<0.05. Results Of 2,925 patients (median age of 60 years [48-71], 57.1% men), 27.3% presented myocardial injury. The proportion of patients with comorbidities was higher among patients with cardiac injury (median 2 [1-2] vs. 1 [0-2]). Patients with myocardial injury had higher median levels of brain natriuretic peptide, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and C-reactive protein than patients without myocardial injury. As independent predictors, C-reactive protein and platelet counts were related to the risk of death, and neutrophils and platelet counts were related to the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation support. Patients with high troponin levels presented a higher risk of death (RR 2.03, 95% CI 1.60-2.58) and invasive mechanical ventilation support (RR 1.87, 95% CI 1.57-2.23), when compared to those with normal troponin levels. Conclusion Cardiac injury was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To evaluate the quality of information on gestational syphilis (GS) and congenital syphilis (CS) on the Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN-Syphilis Brazil – Notifiable Diseases Information System) by compiling and validating completeness indicators between 2007 and 2018. METHODS Overall, care, and socioeconomic completeness scores were compiled based on selected variables, by using ad hoc weights assigned by experts. The completeness scores were analysed, considering the region and area of residence, the pregnant woman’s race/colour, and the year of case notification. Pearson’s correlation coefficients were used to validate the scores obtained by the weighted average method, compared with the values obtained by principal component analysis (PCA). RESULTS Most selected variables presented a good or excellent degree of completeness for GS and CS, except for clinical classification, pregnant woman’s level of education, partner’s treatment, and child’s race/colour, which were classified as poor or very poor. The overall (89.93% versus 89.69%) and socioeconomic (88.71% versus 88.24%) completeness scores for GS and CS, respectively, were classified as regular, whereas the care score (GS-90.88%, and CS-90.72%) was good, despite improvements over time. Differences in the overall, care and socioeconomic completeness scores according to region, area of residence, and ethnic-racial groups were reported for syphilis notifications. The completeness scores estimated by the weighted average method and PCA showed a strong linear correlation (> 0.90). CONCLUSION The completeness of GS and CS notifications has been improving in recent years, highlighting the variables that form the care score, compared with the socioeconomic scores, despite differences between regions, area of residence, and ethnic-racial groups. The weighted average was a viable methodological alternative easily operationalised to estimate data completeness scores, allowing routine monitoring of the completeness of gestational and congenital syphilis records.
