RESUMO A batata-doce é uma raiz alimentar vital, rica em vitaminas, minerais e compostos bioativos. Genótipos que atendam a essas demandas nutricionais são essenciais para combater deficiências de nutrientes e promover a saúde humana. Assim, pressupõe-se a hipótese de que os genótipos de batata-doce diferem na qualidade físico-química e nos compostos bioativos quando avaliados sob as mesmas condições ambientais. Deste modo, este estudo tem como objetivo avaliar a qualidade físico-química e os compostos bioativos em genótipos de batata-doce de polpa alaranjada. O experimento foi conduzido de abril de 2022 a agosto de 2022, na área experimental de Engenharia Agronômica, localizada na Unidade Acadêmica Especializada em Ciências Agrárias (UAECA) - UFRN, em Macaíba, RN, Brasil. Os tratamentos foram compostos por oito genótipos, sendo duas cultivares (BRS Amélia e Beauregard) e seis acessos (Macaíba I, Macaíba II, Macaíba III, Macaíba IV, Ceará-Mirim e Natal I) de batata-doce de polpa alaranjada da coleção didática da UAECA. Após a colheita, foram avaliadas as seguintes características: firmeza, elasticidade, potencial hidrogeniônico (pH), acidez titulável (AT), sólidos solúveis (SS), razão (SS/AT), vitamina C e os compostos bioativos: antocianinas, flavonoides e carotenoides totais. Os genótipos de batata-doce de polpa alaranjada apresentaram características distintas para as variáveis físico-químicas e os compostos bioativos. ABSTRACT Sweet potato is a vital food root, rich in vitamins, minerals, and bioactive compounds. We report an ab initio study on the kinetics and chemical dynamics of the CH4 + CH reaction using a coupled cluster based composite scheme that includes unrestricted coupled cluster singles and doubles with perturbative connected triples method, UCCSD(T), energies extrapolated to the complete basis set limit, in addition to core-valence, higher-order correlation, and relativistic corrections. With this protocol, the reaction enthalpies for the two main reaction channels, C2H4 + H and CH2 + CH3, are reproduced with an absolute deviation of 0.04 kcal mol–1 relative to experimental data. RESUMO O uso de reguladores de crescimento do grupo das citocininas e auxinas tem demonstrado aumentar a produtividade de algumas culturas, pois podem estar envolvidos na expressão do sexo da planta, embora pouco se saiba sobre a ação da auxina IBA e da citocinina CPPU na frutificação da abóbora, bem como a interação entre ambas, o que torna este campo de estudo promissor. Assim, o objetivo deste estudo foi induzir a frutificação em abóbora Atlas, por meio de diferentes formas de aplicação e proporções de citocinina e auxina e avaliar seus efeitos nas características físico-químicas dos frutos. ABSTRACT The use growth regulators from the cytokinins and auxins group has been shown to increase the productivity of certain crops, as they may be involved in the expression of plant sex, although little is known about the action of auxin IBA and cytokinin CPPU on the fruiting of squash, as well as the interaction between both, which makes this field of study promising. Resumo Encontrar formas de reaproveitar resíduos é uma alternativa não só para reduzir sua presença em ambientes urbanos e naturais, mas também para reduzir custos e consumo de matérias primas pelas indústrias. O objetivo deste trabalho é avaliar as propriedades de concretos fabricados através da substituição de agregados graúdos e miúdos convencionais por resíduo de mármore. Foram realizadas análises de morfologia, granulometria, massa específica e da fase cristalina dos agregados. A composição dos constituintes, em massa, foi 1:1,2:3 de cimento Portland CPIII-32 RS, agregados miúdos e agregados graúdos, respectivamente, com adição de 0,4 de água, moldados e curados em água. Foram confeccionadas cerca de 25 amostras de concreto, variando a quantidade de agregado graúdo/fino na massa de cimento de acordo com as proporções de agregados de: A= 100% brita/ 100% areia, B= 100% RRO grosso/ 50% RRO fino + 50% areia, C= 50% RRO grosso + 50% cascalho/ 100% RRO fino, e D = 100% RRO grosso/100% RRO fino. As amostras cilíndricas medindo ∅50 x 100 mm foram submetidas a testes de absorção de água e resistência à compressão, e os resultados obtidos foram comparados com algumas normas e com a literatura. A absorção de água foi inferior a 2,5% e a resistência à compressão ficou entre 27-33 MPa, valor próximo à resistência do cimento utilizado. A composição B apresenta os melhores resultados entre as demais, indicando a possibilidade de utilização do resíduo do mármore para produção de concretos para diversas finalidades como pavimentação de baixa carga, calçadas, blocos, entre outros. Abstract Finding ways to reuse residue is an alternative not only to reduce its presence in urban and natural environments, but also to reduce costs and consumption of resources by industries. The objective of this paper is to evaluate the properties of concretes made by replacing conventional coarse and fine aggregates with marble residue. Morphological, granulometry, specific gravimetry and crystalline phase analyses were carried out in the aggregates. The composition of the constituents, by mass, was 1:1,2:3 of Portland cement CPIII-32 RS, fine aggregates, and coarse aggregate, respectively, with the addition of 0.4 of water, molded and cured in water. About 25 concrete samples were made, varying the amount of coarse/fine aggregate in the cement mass according to the aggregates proportions of: A= 100% gravel/ 100% sand, B= 100% coarse RRO/ 50% fine RRO + 50% sand, C= 50% coarse RRO + 50% gravel/ 100% fine RRO, and D = 100% coarse RRO/100% fine RRO. The cylindrical samples measuring ∅50 x 100 mm were subjected to water absorption and compressive strength tests, and the results were compared with standards and literature. The water absorption was smaller than 2.5% and the compressive strength values were between 27-33 MPa, close to the resistance of cement used. Composition B presented the best results among the others, indicating the possibility of using the residue from marble for production of concretes for various purposes such as low load paving, sidewalks, blocks, among others. Abstract Germ cell transplantation in fish is a promising technique for surrogate broodstock parents with broader application in aquaculture and conserving endangered and valuable genetic resources. Herein, we describe the establishment of an intrapapillary xenogeneic transplant of germ cells from sexually mature goldfish (C. auratus) males into common carp (C. carpio) males cytoablated with a thermochemical treatment (two doses of busulfan at 40 mg/kg at 35°C). To analyze the presence and development of donor germ cells in recipient testes, donor germ cells were labeled with PKH26, a fluorescent cell membrane dye, before transplantation. Our results demonstrated that thermochemical treatment caused effective spermatogenesis suppression and pronounced germ cell loss. Moreover, transplanted spermatogonial cells were able to colonize the recipients’ testes, resume spermatogenesis, and generate spermatozoa within eight weeks after germ cell transplantation. These findings suggested that recipient testes provided suitable conditions for the survival, colonization, proliferation, and differentiation of donor spermatogonia from a related species. This study indicated that recipients’ testes exhibited a high degree of plasticity to accept and support xenogeneic donor germ cells, which were able to form sperm in a short time frame. This approach has significant implications for assisted animal reproduction, biotechnology, conservation, and the production of valuable genetic resources and endangered fish species. Herein C. ABSTRACT The objective of this research was to evaluate leaf temperature, and watermelon yield components under wetted area percentages (PW) in irrigation located in the Agreste region of Northeastern Brazil. Two experiments were carried out in 2018 and 2019. The adopted statistical design was randomized blocks, with six replications and four treatments, in 2018: P1 = 13%, P2 = 14%, P3 = 19%, and P4 = 22%, in 2019: P5 = 12%, P6 = 15%, P7 = 16%, and P8 = 21% of PW. The meteorological variables analyzed were: air temperature (Ta) and rain. The experimental evaluations consisted of measuring the temperature of the plant’s vegetative canopy, tensiometry, mass, and BRIX. Air temperature was not a limiting factor for watermelon growth and development. The average was 195.88 mm, and the average leaf temperature of watermelon is 29.5 °C, a value lower than Ta. There was no statistically significant difference for fruit mass and BRIX, where the overall mean was 10.82 and 10.46 kg, respectively. Therefore, it is feasible to irrigate watermelon with wetted area percentages ranging from 12 to 22%, in localized irrigation systems, without generating physiological damage and reducing agricultural productivity and fruit quality. RESUMO Objetivo Estimar a cobertura vacinal da hepatite A em crianças de 24 meses e identificar fatores associados à ausência de vacinação. Métodos Inquérito em amostra estratificada por estratos socioeconômicos em capitais (2020-2022), com estimativa de cobertura e intervalos de confiança de 95% (IC95%) e análise de fatores pela razão de prevalência (RP) via regressão de Poisson. Resultados Nas 31.001 crianças, a cobertura da hepatite A foi de 88,1% (IC95% 86,8;89,2). Nos estratos socioeconômicos (A/B), a variável pais/responsáveis imigrantes foi associada à ausência de vacinação (RP = 1,91; IC95% 1,09;3,37); nos estratos C/D, crianças de cor amarela (RP = 4,69; IC95% 2,30;9,57), 4ª ordem de nascimento ou mais (RP = 1,68; IC95% 1,06;2,66), não frequentar creche/berçário (RP = 1,67; IC95% 1,24;2,24) e mãe com trabalho remunerado (RP = 1,42; IC95% 1,16;1,74) foram associadas à ausência de vacinação. ABSTRACT Objective To estimate hepatitis A vaccination coverage in 24-month-old children and identify factors associated with non-vaccination. Methods This was a survey involving a sample stratified by socioeconomic strata in capital cities (2020-2022), with coverage estimates and 95% confidence intervals (95%CI), the factor analysis was performed using the prevalence ratio (PR) by means of Poisson regression. Results Among 31,001 children, hepatitis A coverage was 88.1% (95%CI 86.8;89.2). Regarding socioeconomic strata (A/B), the variable immigrant parents/guardians was associated with non-vaccination (PR = 1.91; 95%CI 1.09;3.37); in strata C/D, children of Asian race/skin color (PR = 4.69; 95%CI 2.30;9.57), fourth-born child or later (PR = 1.68; 95%CI 1.06;2 .66), not attending daycare/nursery (PR = 1.67; 95%CI 1.24;2.24) and mother with paid work (PR = 1.42; 95%CI 1.16;1.74) were associated with non-vaccination. Conclusion Hepatitis A coverage was below the target (95%), suggesting that specificities of social strata should be taken into consideration.

RESUMO Objetivo Analisar a cobertura vacinal segundo estrato social, em crianças até 24 meses de vida, residentes no município de Londrina (PR). Métodos Inquérito de base populacional, realizado entre em 2021 e 2022, em que se avaliou a cobertura vacinal e os aspectos sociodemográficos das mães e das famílias, através do teste qui-quadrado de Pearson. Resultados Em uma amostra de 456 crianças, a cobertura vacinal completa variou de acordo com o estrato social, sendo no estrato A de 36,0% (IC95% 26,8;57,8); no estrato B, de 59,5% (IC95% 26,1;86); no estrato C, de 66,2% (IC95% 51,7;78,1); e no estrato D, de 70,0% (IC95% 56,1;81,0). Conclusão A análise da cobertura vacinal indicou o estrato social A como o de maior risco para doenças prevenidas por vacinas.

ABSTRACT Objective To analyze vaccination coverage according to social strata in children up to 24 months old, living in the municipality of Londrina (PR), Brazil. Methods This was a population-based survey conducted between 2021 and 2022, in which vaccination coverage and sociodemographic aspects of mothers and families were evaluated using Pearson’s chi-square test. Results In a sample of 456 children, complete vaccination coverage varied according to social strata, being 36.0% (95%CI 26.8;57.8); in stratum A; 59.5% (95%CI 26.1;86); in stratum B; 66.2% (95%CI 51.7;78.1); in stratum C; and 70.0% (95%CI 56.1;81.0) in stratum D. Conclusion The analysis of vaccination coverage indicated that social stratum A is at highest risk for vaccine-preventable diseases.

ABSTRACT Objective To estimate vaccination coverage, identify barriers and hesitancy to vaccinating children up to 24 months, born between 2017-2018, living in the urban area of Rio Branco, Acre, Brazil. Methods Population survey carried out from 2020 to 2021, which assessed sociodemographic characteristics and vaccination status among children. Results Among 451 included children, vaccination coverage was below 80%. Meningococcal C vaccine had the lowest coverage for administered doses (76.3%; 95%CI 70.5;81.3) and doses on time (27.4%; 95%CI 23.1;32.1). The statements “vaccines cause serious adverse reactions” (26.4%; 95%CI 18.1;36.8) and “you don’t need vaccination for diseases that no longer exist” (22%; 95%CI 15.7;29.8) were the most frequent regarding vaccination hesitancy. Lack of vaccines was the main barrier to care (86.6%; 95%CI 71.8;94.3). Conclusion Vaccination coverage in children born in 2017-2018 was below the target recommended for the full schedule of administered doses, both valid and timely administered.

RESUMO Objetivo Estimar a cobertura vacinal, identificar barreiras e hesitação à vacinação em crianças com até 24 meses, nascidas em 2017 e 2018, residentes na área urbana de Rio Branco-AC. Métodos Inquérito populacional realizado de 2020 a 2021, que avaliou as características sociodemográficas e a situação vacinal em crianças nascidas entre 2017 e 2018. Resultados Entre as 451 crianças estudadas, as coberturas vacinais foram inferiores a 80%. A menor cobertura para doses aplicadas (76,3%; IC95% 70,5;81,3) e oportunas (27,4%; IC95% 23,1;32,1) foi para o reforço da meningocócica C. As afirmações “vacinas causam reações adversas graves” (26,4%; IC95% 18,1;36,8) e “não precisa da vacina para doenças que não existem mais” (22%; IC95% 15,7;29,8) foram as mais frequentes quanto à hesitação vacinal. A falta da vacina foi a principal barreira assistencial (86,6%; IC95% 71,8;94,3). Conclusão As coberturas vacinais em crianças nascidas em 2017 e 2018 ficaram abaixo da meta preconizada nos esquemas completos de doses aplicadas, válidas e oportunas.

Resumo O objetivo deste trabalho foi caracterizar a tolerância ao frio em famílias mutantes de arroz na geração M4, no início do estágio vegetativo. Foram realizados dois experimentos. No experimento I, a tolerância ao frio foi avaliada em 43 famílias mutantes, no genótipo original 'BRS Querência' e em 19 genótipos comerciais. No Experimento II, 8 famílias mutantes do Experimento I, 'BRS Querência' e um mutante proveniente da geração M5 foram testados. Em ambos os experimentos, as plântulas foram avaliadas em duas condições: 10°C por sete dias e 25°C por sete dias. No Experimento I, as mutações induzidas em arroz levaram a respostas variadas nas características de tolerância ao frio, com algumas famílias mutantes M4 tendo superado o genótipo original. O Experimento II destacou o impacto das mutações na tolerância ao frio, particularmente em termos de descoloração das folhas e recrescimento da planta. As famílias mutantes no estágio M4 diferem do genótipo original 'BRS Querência' em tolerância ao frio, no início do estágio vegetativo. As famílias mutantes M36, M54 e M56 e 'BRS Querência' apresentam similaridade genética, o que indica falta de tolerância ao frio durante o início do estágio vegetativo. As famílias mutantes M17, M21, M22 e M26 são promissoras para programas de melhoramento genético de arroz, pois apresentam tolerância ao frio. Abstract The objective of this work was to characterize chilling tolerance in rice mutant families of the M4 generation, at the seedling stage. Two experiments were carried out: chilling tolerance was evaluated in 43 mutant families, in the 'BRS Querência' original genotype, and in 19 commercial genotypes. In Experiment II, 8 mutant families from Experiment I, 'BRS Querência', and a mutant of the M5 generation were tested. In both experiments, seedlings were evaluated under two conditions: 10°C for seven days and 25°C for seven days. In Experiment I, the induced mutations in rice led to varied responses in chilling tolerance traits, with some M4 mutant families outperforming the original genotype. Experiment II highlighted the impact of mutations on chilling-tolerance, particularly in terms of leaf discoloration and plant recovery. Mutant families of the M4 generation differ from the original genotype 'BRS Querência' in chilling tolerance at the seedling stage. The mutant families M36, M54, and M56 and 'BRS Querência' show genetic similarity, indicating a lack of chilling tolerance during the seedling stage. Resumo Fundamento: A amiloidose por transtirretina (ATTR) é uma doença infiltrativa causada pela deposição anormal de proteína principalmente no coração e no sistema nervoso periférico. Quando acomete o coração, a doença manifesta-se como uma cardiomiopatia restritiva e, quando afeta o sistema nervoso periférico e autônomo, apresenta-se como uma polineuropatia, podendo ser chamada de Polineuropatia Amiloidótica Familiar (PAF). Existem dois subtipos de ATTR, a ATTR selvagem, em que não há variantes genéticas, e a ATTR hereditária, caracterizada por uma variante no gene que codifica a proteína transtirretina (T\TR). Em ambos os subtipos, o envolvimento cardíaco é o principal marcador prognóstico. Objetivos: Avaliar a prevalência do envolvimento cardíaco subclínico em uma amostra de pacientes com variantes genéticas no gene TTR usando a cintilografia com pirofosfato e o ecocardiograma com strain; comparar os achados cintilográficos e as medidas de strain; avaliar a associação entre PAF e o envolvimento subclínico; e analisar se existe uma associação entre uma variante genética específica e o envolvimento cardíaco. Métodos: Estudo transversal com carreadores de variantes no gene TTR sem sintomas cardiovasculares e sem alterações nos parâmetros da eletrocardiografia ou do ecocardiograma convencional. Todos os pacientes foram submetidos à cintilografia com pirofosfato e à ecocardiografia com análise de strain. O envolvimento cardíaco subclínico, definido como um escore de Perugini ≥ 2, razão Coração (C)/ Hemitórax Contralateral (CL) ≥ 1,5 em uma hora, C/CL ≥ 1,3 na terceira hora, ou um strain longitudinal global (SGL) ≤ −17%. Realizadas análises descritiva e analítica, e aplicados o teste exato de Fisher e o teste de Mann-Whitney. Um valor de p<0,05 foi considerado significativo. Resultados: Os 23 pacientes avaliados apresentavam uma idade mediana de 51 (37-57) anos, 15 (65,2%) eram do sexo feminino, 12 (52,2%) eram pardos, nove (39,1%) apresentavam hipertensão arterial sistêmica, e nove (39,1%) tinham um diagnóstico prévio de PAF. Dos nove pacientes com PAF, oito (34,8%) usavam tafamidis. As variantes genéticas identificadas foram Val142IIe, Val50Met e IIe127Val. O valor mediano do SGL foi −19% (-16% – −20%). Dos 23 pacientes, nove (39,1%; 95% CI = 29–49%) preencheram os critérios de envolvimento cardíaco, seis (26%) somente pelo critério do SGL. Não houve associação entre PAF e um carreador assintomático avaliado por ecocardiograma com análise de strain e pela cintilografia com pirofostato (p=0,19). A prevalência de hipertensão arterial sistêmica, diabetes mellitus, dislipidemia, tabagismo e SGL reduzido não foi diferente entre os grupos. A velocidade da onda e’ septal foi a única variável que apresentou diferença significativa entre os indivíduos com e sem SGL reduzido, com uma área sob a curva ROC de 0,80 (IC95% = 0,61–0,98, p = 0,027). A melhor acurácia diagnóstica foi alcançada com uma velocidade e’ septal ≤ 8,5 cm/s. Não houve associação entre o tipo de variante genética e o envolvimento cardíaco pré-clínico, nem entre o uso de tafamidis e este mesmo envolvimento (37,5% versus 40,0%, p = 0,90). Conclusão: O envolvimento cardíaco subclínico foi frequente em uma amostra de carreadores da variante genética do gene TTR. Um valor do SGL reduzido foi o achado mais comum. Abstract Background: Transthyretin amyloidosis (ATTR) is an infiltrative disease caused by abnormal protein deposition mainly in the heart and peripheral nervous system. When it affects the heart, the disease presents as restrictive cardiomyopathy; when it affects the peripheral and autonomic nervous system, it manifests as polyneuropathy, and is called familial amyloid polyneuropathy (FAP). There are two ATTR subtypes: wild-type ATTR, where there is no mutation, and mutant ATTR (ATTRm), which is characterized by a mutation in the gene encoding the transthyretin protein (TTR). In both subtypes, cardiac involvement is the major marker of poor prognosis. Objectives: To assess the prevalence of subclinical cardiac involvement in a sample of patients with TTR gene mutation by using pyrophosphate scintigraphy and strain echocardiography; to compare scintigraphy and strain findings; to evaluate the association between neurological manifestations (FAP) and subclinical cardiac involvement; and to analyze whether there is an association between any specific mutation and cardiac involvement. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study with carriers of the TTR gene mutation, without cardiovascular symptoms or changes in electrocardiographic or conventional echocardiographic parameters. All patients underwent pyrophosphate scintigraphy and strain echocardiography. Subclinical cardiac involvement was defined as a Perugini score ≥ 2, heart-to-contralateral lung (H/CL) ratio ≥ 1.5 at 1 h, H/CL ≥1.3 at 3 h, or global longitudinal strain (GLS) ≤ −17%. Descriptive and analytical analyses were performed and Fisher's exact test and Mann–Whitney test were applied. A value of p < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The 23 patients evaluated had a median age of 51 years (IQR 37–57 years), 15 (65.2%) were female, 12 (52.2%) were Pardo, nine (39.1%) had systemic arterial hypertension, and nine (39.1%) had a previous diagnosis of FAP. Of the nine patients with FAP, 8 (34.8%) were on tafamidis. The associated mutations were Val142IIe, Val50Met, and IIe127Val. The median GLS in the sample was −19% (−16% to −20%). Of the 23 patients, nine (39.1%; 95% CI = 29–49%) met criteria for cardiac involvement, six (26%) by the GLS-based criteria only. There was no association between having FAP and being an asymptomatic carrier, as assessed by strain echocardiography and pyrophosphate scintigraphy (p = 0.19). The prevalence of systemic arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, dyslipidemia, smoking, and reduced GLS did not differ between groups. Septal e’ wave velocity was the only variable that significantly differed between individuals with and without reduced GLS, with an area under the ROC curve of 0.80 (95% CI = 0.61–0.98, p = 0.027). The best diagnostic accuracy was achieved with a septal e’ velocity ≤ 8.5 cm/s. There was no association between mutation type and preclinical cardiac involvement, nor between tafamidis use and lower degree of cardiac involvement (37.5% versus 40.0%, p = 0.90). Conclusion: Subclinical cardiac involvement was common in a sample of TTR mutation carriers without cardiac involvement. Reduced left ventricular GLS was the most frequent finding. There was no association between the presence of amyloid polyneuropathy and subclinical cardiac involvement. Type of mutation was not associated with early cardiac involvement. In this sample, the use of tafamidis 20 mg/day was not associated with a lower prevalence of subclinical cardiac involvement. RESUMO Contexto: O teste de tolerancia à lactose (TTL) é ampliamente utilizado por ser minimamente invasivo e de baixo custo, disponível na atenção primária e muito útil na prática clínica. Está bem estabelecido o polimorfismo C/T-13910 na persistência da lactase em populações caucasianas, mas não há estudos avaliando a concordância entre os resultados da genotipagem do polimorfismo C/T-13910 e do TTL no Brasil, onde a população é altamente miscigenada. Objetivo: Avaliar a concordância entre a presença do polimorfismo C/T-13910 e a má absorção nos resultados do TTL. Métodos: Análise retrospectiva de dados coletados de um laboratorio presente em vários estados brasileiros. Os resultados dos pacientes que realizaram um teste genético para intolerância à lactose (genotipagem do polimorfismo C/T-13910) e um TTL de abril de 2016 a fevereiro de 2019 foram analisados para avaliar a concordância entre os testes. Os grupos foram classificados de acordo com a idade (<10 anos; 10-17 anos, ≥18 anos) e estado de residência (São Paulo ou Rio Grande do Sul). Resultados: Entre os 404 pacientes avaliados, houve concordância entre os resultados de genotipagem e TTL em 325 (80,4%) pacientes e discordância em 79 (19,6%) pacientes (K=0,42 - concordância moderada). Em relação ao genótipo, 47 pacientes com genótipo C/C (não persistência de lactase) apresentaram TTL normal e 32 com genótipo C/T ou T/T (indicando persistência da lactase) apresentaram TTL anormal. A idade e o estado de residência (Rio Grande do Sul ou São Paulo) não afetaram a concordância entre os resultados dos exames. ABSTRACT Background: Lactose tolerant test (LTT) is the most broadly used diagnostic test for lactose intolerance in Brazil, is an indirect, minimally invasive and a low-cost test that is widely available in primary care and useful in clinical practice. The C/T-13910 polymorphism in lactase persistence has been well characterized in Caucasian populations, but there are no studies evaluating the concordance between C/T-13910 polymorphism genotyping results and LTT results in Brazil, where the population is highly mixed. Objective: We aimed to evaluate agreement between presence of C/T-13910 polymorphism genotyping and malabsorption in LTT results. Methods: This is a retrospective analysis of a Brazilian population whose data were collected from a single laboratory database present in several Brazilian states. Results of individuals who underwent both genetic testing for lactose intolerance (C/T-13910 polymorphism genotyping) and an LTT from April 2016 until February 2019 were analysed to evaluate agreement between tests. Groups were classified according to age (<10-year-old (yo), 10-17 yo, ≥18 yo groups) and state of residence (São Paulo or Rio Grande do Sul). Results: Among the 404 patients evaluated, there was agreement between the genotyping and LTT results in 325 (80.4%) patients and discordance in 79 (19.6%) patients (k=0.42 -moderate agreement). Regarding the genotype, 47 patients with genotype C/C (lactase nonpersistence) had normal LTT results, and 32 with genotype C/T or T/T (indicating lactase persistence) had abnormal LTT results. Neither age nor state of residence (Rio Grande do Sul or São Paulo) affected the agreement between test results. Abstract Among the vegetables produced in the organic system, there are the brassicas as the largest group in Brazil, and in brassicas, one of the most important pathogens is Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris (Xcc), which causes black rot of crucifers. The importance of this bacterium is increased because it is transmitted by seeds. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of thermotherapy in kale seeds, produced in the organic system, on the physiological seed quality and on Xcc control. Sixteen treatments were evaluated [factorial scheme: four lots of kale seeds (10714, 10751, 10756 and 10789) and four treatments (control, seeds inoculated with Xcc, seeds inoculated and treated at 50°C for 20 and 40 minutes)], in a completely randomized design, with four replicates. Germination, seed vigor (first count) and Xcc incidence were evaluated. Thermotherapy in kale seeds at 50°C for 20 and 40 minutes of exposure reduces the infection of Xanthomonas campestris pv. campestris to 10% and 4%, respectively. However, in a seed lot with low initial seed vigor, the heat treatment reduces the germination rate and first count in the germination test. Abstract Background: Parkinson’s disease (PD) is the second most prevalent neurodegenerative disease. There is no effective treatment for neurodegenerative diseases. Snake venoms are a cocktail of proteins and peptides with great therapeutic potential and might be useful in the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. Crotapotin is the acid chain of crotoxin, the major component of Crotalus durissus collilineatus venom. PD is characterized by low levels of neurotrophins, and synaptic and axonal degeneration; therefore, neurotrophic compounds might delay the progression of PD. The neurotrophic potential of crotapotin has not been studied yet. Methods: We evaluated the neurotrophic potential of crotapotin in untreated PC12 cells, by assessing the induction of neurite outgrowth. The activation of the NGF signaling pathway was investigated through pharmacological inhibition of its main modulators. Additionally, its neuroprotective and neurorestorative effects were evaluated by assessing neurite outgrowth and cell viability in PC12 cells treated with the dopaminergic neurotoxin MPP+ (1-methyl-4-phenylpyridinium), known to induce Parkinsonism in humans and animal models. Results: Crotapotin induced neuritogenesis in PC12 cells through the NGF-signaling pathway, more specifically, by activating the NGF-selective receptor trkA, and the PI3K/Akt and the MAPK/ERK cascades, which are involved in neuronal survival and differentiation. In addition, crotapotin had no cytotoxic effect and protected PC12 cells against the inhibitory effects of MPP+ on cell viability and differentiation. Conclusion: These findings show, for the first time, that crotapotin has neurotrophic/neuroprotective/neurorestorative potential and might be beneficial in Parkinson's disease. ABSTRACT The continuous demand for water in the agricultural sector has encouraged researchers worldwide to find alternatives to optimize this resource. The use of wastewater in irrigation is promising in this scenario, especially to produce tree seedlings. The growth, quality, and water productivity of Dalbergia nigra seedlings cultivated with sewage sludge were determined when irrigated with urban supply water (W1) and cattle wastewater (CWW) treated for 1 h (W2) and 2 h (W3) of ozonation, considering four irrigation depths and shading levels (0 % (C1), 37.6 % (C2), 49.4 % (C3), 75.8 % (C4)). The height, stem diameter, biomass, and the Dickson Quality Index (DQI) were evaluated. The largest volumes of water applied in each experiment were 2.342 L per plant in W2C1, 2.114 L per plant in W1C3 and 1.556 L per plant in W3C1. The CWW provided satisfactory seedling growth, especially W2, highlighting a DQI of 0.47 obtained in C1 and better water productivity (3.8 g L–1) in W2C1, with full depth.
