Abstract In the county of Pedra Lavrada - PB, various mineral occurrences of pegmatite are observed with prominence at Alto Dois Irmãos - PB, where quartz, feldspar and mica are mined. The understanding of mineral constituents is fundamental to define their industrial employment and to implement improvements in the beneficiation process. The proposal of this research is the detailed characterization and proof of that part of the ore (quartz) considered waste, presenting low poisoning (Fe2O3) and high silica (SiO2) content, to enable its industrial use. Besides that, to minimize the environmental impact through the reuse of this waste, and to determine the correct utilization of the milling equipment. For the pegmatite characterization, done were density determination tests, mineralogical identification by X-ray diffraction (XRD), chemical analysis by fluorescents X-rays and morphological analysis by scanning electron microscopy (SEM/EDS). Then tests were done for the Work Index (WI) calculous and consequently the empirical determination of the dimensions (LxD) of the pebble mill. The sterile presented a medium density of 2.66g/cm³, majority chemical composition of silicon and oxygen and quartz as the main mineralogical stage, indicating that this material has high purity. The. The Work Index (WI) was 15.9 kwh/t showing that this material can be considered resistant to breaking in the grinding process. The necessary energy to the milling was defined in 11.52 kwh/st, that corresponds to 57.28 HP. This power allowed the mill selection with diammeter and length of 1.83m, that provides the production maximization and the energy saving. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Specific types of violence such as intimate partner sexual violence and intimate partner homicide occur more frequently in rural areas. OBJECTIVE: This study aimed to systematically review the literature on the knowledge and attitudes of rural healthcare providers regarding cases of domestic violence against women. DESIGN AND SETTING: Systematic review developed at Universidade Federal de Uberlândia. METHODS: We conducted an electronic search of six databases, which only included observational studies, regardless of the year, language, or country of publication, except for studies that used secondary data and were exclusively qualitative. Two reviewers performed the selection, data extraction, and risk of bias assessment using a specific Joanna Briggs Institute tool. RESULTS: Six studies met the inclusion criteria. All the studies had a low risk of bias. Approximately 38% of these professionals identified injuries caused by violence in patients. When asked about knowing the correct attitude to take in cases of confirmed violence, between 12% and 64% of rural healthcare providers answered positively; most of them would refer to specialized institutions and promote victim empowerment and counseling. The number of professionals with an educational background in the field ranged from 16% to 98%. CONCLUSIONS: The evident disparity across studies shows that some professionals have suboptimal knowledge and require training to adopt the correct attitude when identifying female victims of domestic violence in clinical practice. SYSTEMATIC REVIEW REGISTRATION: This systematic review was registered in the Open Science Framework Database under the registration http://doi.org/10.17605/OSF.IO/B7Q6S. ABSTRACT Background: Hancornia speciosa is a species known for its medicinal and nutritional properties. Despite being a plant native to several regions of Brazil, some aspects of its production system are not yet well defined. Large-scale asexual propagation stands out, making it difficult to establish commercial orchards with materials with superior characteristics. In this context, this article aimed to investigate the scientific production related to the propagation and conservation of the mangabeira, using a mixed methodology of bibliometric analysis and literature review. The Scopus and Web of Science databases were consulted and the VOSviewer software was used to map the cooperation network between authors, institutions, and keywords. Results: The study included 72 articles and found a significant increase in scientific production on mangabeira propagation and conservation since 2009. Most studies focused on seed technology, seedling production, in vitro propagation and conservation, and cryopreservation. Additionally, it was observed that mangabeira seeds do not tolerate a reduction in moisture content, and the combination of materials for the composition of the substrate, such as coconut fiber, manure, and sand, can provide an adequate basis for developing seedlings. It was also observed that MS culture medium, complete or with half saline concentration, or WPM medium can be used for in vitro germination and initial seedling growth. Conclusion: Through this review, we concluded that the mangabeira presents substantial potential for the development of innovative propagation techniques, with a special focus on methods that facilitate the clonal propagation of the species, such as grafting, rooting cuttings, and micropropagation. It is expected that future research will expand knowledge about the in vitro and ex vitro propagation of this species, contributing to the expansion of commercial plantations with a focus on adding to the processing of its fruits.
ABSTRACT Accurate wood volume predictions are critical in hyperdiverse forests because each species has specific size and shape traits. Although generic models at a multispecies level were widely used in Amazonian managed forests, they are subject to more significant bias due to interspecific variability. We used an extensive database of wood volume collected in managed forests to test the hypothesis that generic models violate the independence assumption due to that predictions vary with species-specific size. Our hypothesis was proved as residuals of the generic model were conditioned to species and specific size. The multilevel models were more accurate both in fitting and validation procedures, and accounted for variance derived from species and specific size, providing a more reliable prediction. However, we found that the size-specific models have a similar predictive ability to species-specific models for new predictions. This implies more practical estimates in hyperdiverse forests where fitting species-specific models can be complex. The findings are crucial for sustainable forest management as they allow for more reliable wood volume estimates, leading to less financial uncertainty and preventing damage to forest stocks through under or over-exploitation. traits variability speciesspecific procedures prediction However sizespecific complex overexploitation. overexploitation over exploitation. exploitation over-exploitation

. Abstract Biostimulants such as seaweed extract can be strong allies in the formation of lawn plugs, as they assist in several physiological processes in the plant. At the same time, shoot mowing is the main factor in the maintenance cost of turfgrasses, and there is a search for alternatives to mechanical management without compromising aesthetic quality, such as the use of plant growth regulators (PGR). Thus, the objective of this experiment was to evaluate the use of Ascophyllum nodosum in the production of lawn seedlings, and growth regulators in the development of Carpet grass. The experiment was carried out between 2020 and 2021, and divided into two parts, the first being the production of seedlings (30 days) of Emerald grass, Bermudagrass DiscoveryTM, Carpet grass and Bahiagrass with the application of seaweed extract, in the second part the development of Carpet grass was evaluated after the application of PGRs (Trinexapac-ethy, Paclobutazol and Glyphosate) in 60 days. The evaluations performed were: green color index (GCI); normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI); root length and dry mass of seedlings. And for the second part: GCI; SPAD; NDVI; visual appearance; coverage rate; shoot height; growth rate and dry mass of clippings. It was observed that the use of the biostimulant increased the production of ornamental lawn plugs, where better values could be observed for Carpet grass. PGRs demonstrated efficient results for controlling the height of Carpet grass in up to 30 days, with emphasis on Trinexapac-ethyl, which reduced growth and maintained the aesthetics of the lawn. plugs time turfgrasses quality PGR. Abstract The expansion of cowpea (Vigna unguiculata (L.) Walp.) crop has created new demands for its breeding programs. Knowledge of its genetic base is fundamental for choosing progenitors when conducting crosses. This study aimed to estimate the genetic base of Brazilian cowpea cultivars released between 1960 and 2022, in addition to identifying the origin of their cytoplasmic genes. Seventy-three cultivars were released in this period; however, only 41 had information about their original crosses. The ancestors CNC0434, Pitiúba and Seridó were used more frequently in crosses. They have also contributed with the highest frequency to the cultivars’ cytoplasmic genes. Therefore, although we found that between 2005 and 2022 there was a 30.95% increase in the contribution of different genotypes, we conclude that the genetic base of cowpea is narrow, and it is necessary to avoid crosses involving CNC0434, Pitiúba and Seridó in future breeding programs of this legume in Brazil. Abstract Objective To create an educational intervention for health professionals and test its effectiveness in implementing the use of CPAP in hospitalized patients with pleural effusion undergoing thoracic drainage. Methods This implementation study was developed in 5 hospitals in Brazil and one in Belgium within four phases: (I) Situational diagnosis (professionals and patients’ knowledge about CPAP usage for drained pleural effusion and checking medical records for the last 6 months); (II) Education and training of professionals; (III) New situational diagnosis (equal to phase I); (IV) Follow-up for two years. Results 65 professionals, 117 patients’ medical records, and 64 patients were enrolled in this study. Initially, only 72% of medical records presented a description of interventions. CPAP usage was mentioned in only one patient with a chest tube. After phase III, the number of professionals who used CPAP for their patients with drained pleural effusion increased from 28.8% to 66.7%, p < 0.001. Similarly, the acceptability of this therapy for this clinical situation also increased among professionals from 6.4 ± 1.3 to 7.8 ± 1.4, p < 0.001. However, before the implementation, only one medical record described the use of CPAP in one patient with drained pleural effusion. After two years, the use of CPAP therapy by healthcare professionals for patients with drained thoracic drainage was sustained in 3 hospitals. Conclusions The educational intervention for the use of CPAP in patients with drained pleural effusion was effective for health professionals. Results were sustained after two years in three of the six hospitals. phases I (I months months) II (II III (III equal I) IV (IV Followup Follow up 11 Initially 72 interventions tube 288 28 8 28.8 667 66 7 66.7% 0001 0 001 0.001 Similarly 4 6. 13 1 1. 78 7. 14 1.4 However 2 28. 66.7 000 00 0.00 66. 0.0 0.

Abstract The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of the application of different doses of hydrogel and irrigation levels on the morphophysiological and productive behavior of a bell pepper cultivar, in a protected environment. Four doses of hydrogel (0.0, 0.6, 1.2, and, 2.4 g per plant) and four irrigation levels (50, 75, 100, and, 125%) were used, on the basis of the daily evapotranspiration of a bell pepper crop grown in a sandy soil. Height, stem diameter, and leaf area were measured at 70 and 100 days. At the end of the experiment, bell pepper yield and water use efficiency were estimated. Hydrogel associated with irrigation increases leaf area, productivity, and irrigation-water use efficiency. ABSTRACT In 2000, Cleide Costa published a paper presenting the state of knowledge of the Neotropical Coleopte ra, with a focus on the Brazilian fauna. Twenty-four years later, thanks to the development of the Coleoptera section of the Taxonomic Catalog of the Brazilian Fauna (CTFB - Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil) through the collaboration of 100 coleopterists from all over the globe, we can build on Costa’s work and present an updated overview of the state of knowledge of the beetles from Brazil. There are currently 35,699 species in 4,958 genera and 116 families known to occur in the country, including representatives of all extant suborders and superfamilies. Our data show that the Brazilian beetle fauna is the richest on the planet, concentrating 9% of the world species diversity, with some estimates accounting to up to 15% of the global total. The most diverse family in numbers of genera is Cerambycidae (1,056 genera), while in number of species it is Chrysomelidae (6,079 species). Conotrachelus Dejean, 1835 (Curculionidae) is the most species-rich genus, with 570 species. The French entomologist Maurice Pic is the author who has contributed the most to the naming of species recorded from Brazil, with 1,794 valid names in 36 families, whereas the Brazilians Ubirajara R. Martins and Maria Helena M. Galileo are the only ones among the top-ten authors to have named species in the 21st century. Currently, approximately 144 new species of Brazilian beetles are described each year, and this average is projected to increase in the next decade to 180 species per year, or about one new Brazilian beetle every two days. 2000 ra Twentyfour Twenty four later CTFB Brasil 10 globe Costas s Brazil 35699 35 699 35,69 4958 4 958 4,95 11 country superfamilies planet 9 diversity 15 total 1,056 1056 1 056 (1,05 genera, , genera) 6,079 6079 6 079 (6,07 . species) Dejean 183 Curculionidae (Curculionidae speciesrich rich genus 57 1794 794 1,79 3 R M topten top ten st century Currently 14 year 18 days 200 3569 69 35,6 495 95 4,9 1,05 105 05 (1,0 6,07 607 07 (6,0 5 179 79 1,7 20 356 35, 49 4, 1,0 0 (1, 6,0 60 (6, 17 7 1, 2 (1 6, (6 (

Abstract Background Autoimmune encephalitis (AIE) is a group of inflammatory diseases characterized by the presence of antibodies against neuronal and glial antigens, leading to subacute psychiatric symptoms, memory complaints, and movement disorders. The patients are predominantly young, and delays in treatment are associated with worse prognosis. Objective With the support of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (Academia Brasileira de Neurologia, ABN) and the Brazilian Society of Child Neurology (Sociedade Brasileira de Neurologia Infantil, SBNI), a consensus on the diagnosis and treatment of AIE in Brazil was developed using the Delphi method. Methods A total of 25 panelists, including adult and child neurologists, participated in the study. Results The panelists agreed that patients fulfilling criteria for possible AIE should be screened for antineuronal antibodies in the serum and cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) using the tissue-based assay (TBA) and cell-based assay (CBA) techniques. Children should also be screened for anti-myelin oligodendrocyte glucoprotein antibodies (anti-MOG). Treatment should be started within the first 4 weeks of symptoms. The first-line option is methylprednisolone plus intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) or plasmapheresis, the second-line includes rituximab and/or cyclophosphamide, while third-line treatment options are bortezomib and tocilizumab. Most seizures in AIE are symptomatic, and antiseizure medications may be weaned after the acute stage. In anti-N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor (anti-NMDAR) encephalitis, the panelists have agreed that oral immunosuppressant agents should not be used. Patients should be evaluated at the acute and postacute stages using functional and cognitive scales, such as the Mini-Mental State Examination (MMSE), the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA), the Modified Rankin Scale (mRS), and the Clinical Assessment Scale in Autoimmune Encephalitis (CASE). Conclusion The present study provides tangible evidence for the effective management of AIE patients within the Brazilian healthcare system. ABSTRACT. The aim of this study was to investigate the hair coat characteristics of sows raised in a free-range system in a tropical climate and assess associations with effective radiative properties and thermal conductivity. Bristles were collected from December 2017 to April 2018 and evaluated for diameter (mm), length (mm), and density (bristles per cm2). From these data, the effective thermal conductivity, absorptivity, transmissivity, and reflectivity of the hair coat were determined. Sows were separated into four groups according to skin pigmentation and color parameters. The environment was characterized with regard to average air temperature (°C), relative humidity (%), and shortwave radiation (W m-2). The data were analyzed by repeated measures analysis. Bristle length (33 mm) and density (10 bristles cm-2) were lower in summer than in colder months (48 mm and 20 bristles cm-2, respectively). Effective absorptivity was higher and transmittance was lower in more pigmented sows, demonstrating a connection with protection against solar radiation. Therefore, the combination of a pigmented and dense coat seems to be ideal for pigs reared in free-range systems. Abstract This study evaluated the nutritional and productive performance of Nellore purebred heifers and crossbred Brangus x Nellore (BGNE) and Braford x Nellore (BFNE) in a feedlot system. Thirty heifers (10 of each genetic group) with an average age of 18 months and an initial body weight of 261 kg were used. The experiment was structured and conducted according to a completely randomized design, with three treatments. Heifers received two diets (60 days each) during the experimental period. The experiment lasted 120 days with four experimental periods. Nellore heifers had a lower intake than crossbred heifers (P <0.05). There were no differences between BGNE and BFNE heifers, which had higher final body weight, average daily gain, feed efficiency, hot carcass weight and carcass length than NE heifers. Crossed heifers presented better fat cover than NE heifers. However, NE heifers had higher carcass dressing Despite presenting lower carcass yields than Nellore heifers, crossed heifers are more efficient and have higher performance and better fat cover on the carcass than purebred Nellore heifers. Crossbreeding synthetic breeds, such as Brangus and Braford breeds, with the Nellore breed is an effective way to increase the productivity and efficiency of feedlot heifers in tropical regions. ABSTRACT Background: The intensity of dengue virus (DV) replication and circulating non-structural protein 1 (NS1) levels may promote changes in the human immune response and favor severe forms of infection. We investigated the correlations between NS1 with CXCL-8, CXCL-10, IFN-γ, and IL-12p40 serum levels, and IFN-γ receptor α chain (CD119) expression, and CXCL10 production by peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) stimulated with recombinant IFN-γ in DV-infected patients with different clinical forms. Methods: Dengue virus NS1, CXCL-8, CXCL-10, IFN-γ, and IL-12p40 serum levels were measured in 152 DV-infected patients with different clinical forms and 20 non-infected individuals (NI) using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). In addition, we investigated the CXCL-10 production after in vitro IFN-γ stimulation of PBMCs from 48 DV-infected individuals (with different clinical forms of dengue fever) and 20 NI individuals using ELISA, and CD119 expression on CD14+ cells with flow cytometry. Results: Patients with dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) had significantly higher NS1, CXCL-8, and CXCL-10 serum levels than those with classic dengue fever (DF). The response of PBMCs to IFN-γ stimulation was lower in patients with DHF than in those with DF or dengue with complications (DWC), with lower CD119 expression and reduced CXCL-10 synthesis. In addition, these alterations are associated with high NS1 serum levels. Conclusions: Patients with DHF reported high NS1 levels, low CD119 expression, and low CXCL-10 synthesis in PBMCs, which may be associated with infection progression and severity. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82.
