ABSTRACT Care for human well-being and health requires the consumption of healthy foods, and therefore, the “baby-leaf” gains increased space in the market as they have higher concentrations of bioactive compounds. The present study aimed to evaluate the growth and bioactive compounds of baby-leaf chicory (Cichorium intybus L.) according to the color of cultivation benches with different wavelengths. The experiment was conducted in a non-acclimatized greenhouse, covered with low density polyethylene film with an aluminized screen of 50% shading under the film and 50% shading screens on the sides. In a completely randomized design, five types of benches were evaluated without and with bright reflective colored materials: Control bench without reflective material, a bench with reflective bright white laminate, reflective bright dark red laminate, reflective bright dark blue laminate, and reflective bright yellow laminate. The bright white and yellow laminates amplified the most photosynthetically active radiation. All the laminates enhanced yield of baby-leaf chicory plants, where white, yellow, red, and dark blue enhanced the fresh matter by 102.6%, 50.2%, 60.6%, and 37.4% compared to the control, respectively. The bright dark blue laminates enhanced the bioactive compounds of baby-leaf chicory plants. The bright dark blue laminate enhanced the carotenoid production of baby-leaf chicory plants by 11.0%. The use of colored laminates was effective in the cultivation of baby-leaf chicory, both in terms of yield and quality, with significant increases in fresh matter and bioactive compounds. To provide baby-leaf chicory with higher bioactive content with antioxidant effect (carotenoids) the use of dark blue laminates is necessary; however, if the objective is greater shoot DM it will be white laminates.

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82.
This quantitative paper aimed to evaluate the space allocated in brazilian post-graduate stricto sensu programs in engineering to teacher training, which is one of its objectives set by the brazilian law 9.394/96, of the Guidelines and Bases of Education (LDB), and the agency Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior (CAPES, Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel). Based on data analysis of the postgraduate evaluation between 2013 and 2016, more than 1,600,000 data were extracted from the Sucupira platform to identify and quantify the presence of key terms of education in the Subject titles, Intellectual Production and Major/Minor works in engineering. It was observed that 0.39% of the subjects, 0.8% of the intelectual production, 0.93% of the final papers and 0.54% of the relevant intellectual production actually work with the pedagogical area, concluding that there is a devaluation of the teaching training in the analyzed programs, reinforcing previous stud.

Abstract This work investigates the effect of the addition of glycerol on the microstructure, corrosion resistance, and efficiency of the electrodeposition process of Cu coating in an acid sulphate solution. The morphology and microstructures of electrodeposits were analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Spectrometry X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and laser scanning confocal microscopy (LSCM). Evaluation of the corrosion resistance was performed in 2.0 mol⋅L−1 NaCl by means of weight loss tests and electrochemical techniques. The addition of glycerol resulted in a decrease in grain and crystallite sizes, a decrease in roughness and an increase in the tensile strain of the coating. The deposition efficiency and the corrosion resistance increased with the addition of glycerol exhibiting a maximum value at the concentration of 0.42 mol⋅L−1, increasing the efficiency of electrodeposition by approximately 96%. This is related to the roughness of the coating, which is minimal at this concentration.

Abstract In the present study, catalytic activity of dense, porous, electrospun membranes of polysulfone (PSF) and polysulfone with sulfonated polystyrene (PSF_PSS) have been evaluated in reactions of esterification of oleic acid with methanol, in times that varied from 10 to 480 minutes. Conversion to biodiesel has been confirmed by FTIR and quantified through gas chromatography. The results showed the catalysts used were effective in the esterification reaction studied and the PSF_PSS electrospun membrane has presented the best conversion to methyl oleate, reaching 70.5% in a 10-minute reaction and 95.8% in a 240-minute reaction, when methanol:oleic acid molar ratio of 10:1, 5% of catalyst and temperature of 100 °C were used. Considering the performance of solid catalysts described in literature, mainly related to reaction times and conversion of the process, this study reveals a promising feasibility of using electrospun membranes of PSF_PSS for developing a heterogeneous acid catalyst aimed to biodiesel synthesis.

Abstract Core/shell structures of carbon-based materials/ metal oxide have been considered as potential candidates for electrochemical devices due to their improved pseudocapacitance/electrical double layer capacitance and high conductivity/ superior surface area. The development of multiple core-shell structures of MWCNT@MnO2@PPy was analyzed as a standard procedure for mass production of supercapacitor electrodes. The relative concentration of carbon nanotubes in the composite was varied to optimize the double layer capacitance contribution in overall response of device. Resulting structures presented capacitance in order of 272.7 Fg-1 and reasonable cycling performance.

It is shown that conductivity and molar volume in binary rubidium and cesium silicate glasses, both measured at room temperature, obey a common cubic scaling relation due to increase in alkali content. The drastic drop in conductivity up to 15 orders of magnitude for so many ion-conducting binary alkali silicate glasses (in wide composition range) is mainly caused by the structure and the ion content. In particular, it is suggested that the glass network expansion, which is related to the available free volume, is a parameter that could explain the increase in ionic conductivity for these binary systems.

The main objective of this work is to present an analysis and brief discussion of experimental ionic conductivity s data in the binary alkali tellurite system, including on 47 glasses that extend the ionic conductivity range by more than 14 orders of magnitude in a wide compositional range. A 'universal' behavior is obtained, using log sigma or log sigmaT vs. E A/kB T, where E A is the activation enthalpy for conduction, kB is the Boltzmann constant and T is the absolute temperature. This finding further indicates the importance of a scaling factor F recently proposed, that is correlated to the free volume of glass composition. For a given value of E A/kB T, the difference between large and small values of sigma is only one order of magnitude in 87% of these glass systems. The influence of alkali content and temperature was minor on the pre-exponential terms, considering both expressions log10sigma and log10sigmaT. Indeed, the pre-exponential term sigma0 varies around an average value of 50 omega-1cm-1 considering different compositions in this system. The fact that s lies on these single 'universal' curves for so many ion-conducting binary tellurite glasses means that sigma is governed mainly by E A. The composition dependence of the activation enthalpy is explained in the context of the Anderson-Stuart theory.

An analysis and brief discussion of experimental ionic conductivity sigma and activation energy E A in the binary rubidium and cesium silicate systems is presented, exemplified on 23 and 30 glasses respectively, in a wide composition range (5-45 Rb2O and Cs2O mole%). The Anderson and Stuart model has been considered to describe the variation of activation energy E A with alkali concentration in both alkali-silica systems. In this analysis were considered experimental parameters, like shear modulus G and relative dielectric permittivity epsilon. An "universal" finding is obtained using logsigma× E A/kB T in 51 of 53 glasses considering both alkali systems, where E A is the activation energy for conduction, kB is the Boltzmann constant and T is the absolute temperature. This strong correlation by more than 13 (Rb-based glasses) and 15 (Cs-based glasses) orders of magnitude means that sigma is governed mainly by E A. An explanation for this behavior links ionic conductivity and microscopic structure.
