Abstract Bees are susceptible to diseases, which cause significant economic losses in beekeeping. The objective was to evaluate the prevalence of Varroa sp, Nosema sp and Acarapis in apiaries located in two regions in Campeche, Mexico. 116 bee samples from 10 apiaries were evaluated. The prevalence of Varroa was lower in Hopelchén compared to Sihochac (98.5 and 100 %), the prevalence of Nosema was lower in Hopelchén compared to Sihochac (85.9 and 88.0 %). The Varroa infestation level was higher in Hopelchén compared to Sihochac (7.32 and 3.73 mites in 100 bees), however, the Nosema infestation level was lower in Hopelchén compared to Sihochac (78x105 and 23x106 spores per bee), and not the presence of Acarapis was found in none of the evaluated regions. In both regions a positive correlation was found between the presence of Nosema and Varroa. There is a 1.08 higher probability of finding Nosema in the presence of Varroa. We conclude that in both regions there is a high prevalence of Varroa and Nosema and the presence of Acarapis was not detected.

ABSTRACT Objective To characterize the population that reports cases of attempted suicide during the confinement period and immediate post-confinement in Colombia according to the official reports collected by the epidemiological surveillance system of the National Institute of Health (Sivigila) and to determine if there are patterns of presentation and variations concerning the characteristics of the population that reported cases in 2019. Methods A serial cross-sectional descriptive observational study and multiple correspondence analysis on epidemiological surveillance sheets of "suicide attempts" collected in Colombia from March 25 to December 31, 2020, and during the same period in 2019. Results 42,102 reports of "Attempted Suicide" were analyzed (23,745 in 2019 and 18,357 in 2020), and there was a reduction in approximately 23% of the number of reports in the year 2020 compared to the year 2019. In addition, patterns of presence were found considering the sociodemographic characteristics of the reporters, but no differences were identified between the annual periods studied. Conclusions Although in the year 2020, there was a reduction in the number of official reports collected of "suicide attempts", it cannot be affirmed that there was an effective decrease in cases of this event in the country.

This guideline aimed to update the concepts and formulate the standards of conduct and scientific evidence that support them, regarding the diagnosis and treatment of the Cardiomyopathy of Chagas disease, with special emphasis on the rationality base that supported it.nbsp;
Chagas disease in the 21st century maintains an epidemiological pattern of endemicity in 21 Latin American countries. Researchers and managers from endemic and non-endemic countries point to the need to adopt comprehensive public health policies to effectively control the interhuman transmission of T. cruzi infection, and to obtain an optimized level of care for already infected individuals, focusing on diagnostic and therapeutic opportunistic opportunities.
nbsp;
Pathogenic and pathophysiological mechanisms of the Cardiomyopathy of Chagas disease were revisited after in-depth updating and the notion that necrosis and fibrosis are stimulated by tissue parasitic persistence and adverse immune reaction, as fundamental mechanisms, assisted by autonomic and microvascular disorders, was well established. Some of them have recently formed potential targets of therapies.nbsp;
The natural history of the acute and chronic phases was reviewed, with enhancement for oral transmission, indeterminate form and chronic syndromes. Recent meta-analyses of observational studies have estimated the risk of evolution from acute and indeterminate forms and mortality after chronic cardiomyopathy. Therapeutic approaches applicable to individuals with Indeterminate form of Chagas disease were specifically addressed. All methods to detect structural and/or functional alterations with various cardiac imaging techniques were also reviewed, with recommendations for use in various clinical scenarios. Mortality risk stratification based on the Rassi score, with recent studies of its application, was complemented by methods that detect myocardial fibrosis.nbsp;
The current methodology for etiological diagnosis and the consequent implications of trypanonomic treatment deserved a comprehensive and in-depth approach. Also the treatment of patients at risk or with heart failure, arrhythmias and thromboembolic events, based on pharmacological and complementary resources, received special attention. Additional chapters supported the conducts applicable to several special contexts, including t. cruzi/HIV co-infection, risk during surgeries, in pregnant women, in the reactivation of infection after heart transplantation, and others.nbsp; nbsp;nbsp;
Finally, two chapters of great social significance, addressing the structuring of specialized services to care for individuals with the Cardiomyopathy of Chagas disease, and reviewing the concepts of severe heart disease and its medical-labor implications completed this guideline.
A metodologia atual para diagnóstico etiológico e as consequentes implicações do tratamento tripanossomicida mereceram enfoque abrangente e aprofundado. Também o tratamento de pacientes em risco ou com insuficiência cardíaca, arritmias e eventos tromboembólicos, baseado em recursos farmacológicos e complementares, recebeu especial atenção. Capítulos suplementares subsidiaram as condutas aplicáveis a diversos contextos especiais, entre eles o da co-infecção por T. cruzi/HIV, risco durante cirurgias, em grávidas, na reativação da infecção após transplante cardíacos, e outros.nbsp;nbsp;nbsp;
Por fim, dois capítulos de grande significado social, abordando a estruturação de serviços especializados para atendimento aos indivíduos com a CDC, e revisando os conceitos de cardiopatia grave e suas implicações médico-trabalhistas completaram esta diretriz.nbsp;

Abstract Introduction: The School of Medicine at Pontificia Universidad Javeriana has been implementing a competency-based curriculum to guarantee the holistic training of general practitioners from a pedagogical strategy called Integrative Activity (IA), which seeks to encourage knowledge, skills, and abilities for the development of competencies of doctors in training. Objective: To explore the perceptions and experiences of students, faculty, and school board of directors of developing competencies from the implementation of IA. Method: A descriptive and interpretive qualitative method was used from interviews and focus groups with students, faculty, and the board of directors. The integrative activity is constituted as a learning strategy that allows the development of competencies through a specific educational process that transforms the pedagogical scenario into a space of joint construction of knowledge from group work. Conclusions: The results show that although the definition of competencies is not unanimous among the actors, the IA would be contributing to the formation of these from the competency-based model proposed by Miller.

ABSTRACT: Special pet feeds are necessary to increase animal welfare and maintain good health. The objective of this investigation was to know the effect of molasses or soybean oil as an energy source with two levels of vitamin C evaluated in maintenance diets. 24 females randomly distributed in four treatments with six repetitions each were used, they received a diet with 3.0 Kcal of digestible energy with soybean or molasses oil and 100 or 300 mg of ascorbic acid per kg of food. Weight gain (WG), feed consumption (FC), capillary permanence, anagen and mortality for 28 days were evaluated. The data obtained was analysed with a completely randomized design with a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement. We did not observe an interaction but there was an effect on food consumption when using molasses with 100 mg of Vitamin C in the first week, there was no effect of the treatments on the capillary permanence or mortality. Adding soybean or molasses oil as a concentrated source of energy combined with 100 or 300 mg of vitamin C per kg of food does not affect body weight, mortality and hair permanence, but it modifies food consumption at the guinea pig.

Abstract Objective: To describe fluid resuscitation practices in Brazilian intensive care units and to compare them with those of other countries participating in the Fluid-TRIPS. Methods: This was a prospective, international, cross-sectional, observational study in a convenience sample of intensive care units in 27 countries (including Brazil) using the Fluid-TRIPS database compiled in 2014. We described the patterns of fluid resuscitation use in Brazil compared with those in other countries and identified the factors associated with fluid choice. Results: On the study day, 3,214 patients in Brazil and 3,493 patients in other countries were included, of whom 16.1% and 26.8% (p < 0.001) received fluids, respectively. The main indication for fluid resuscitation was impaired perfusion and/or low cardiac output (Brazil: 71.7% versus other countries: 56.4%, p < 0.001). In Brazil, the percentage of patients receiving crystalloid solutions was higher (97.7% versus 76.8%, p < 0.001), and 0.9% sodium chloride was the most commonly used crystalloid (62.5% versus 27.1%, p < 0.001). The multivariable analysis suggested that the albumin levels were associated with the use of both crystalloids and colloids, whereas the type of fluid prescriber was associated with crystalloid use only. Conclusion: Our results suggest that crystalloids are more frequently used than colloids for fluid resuscitation in Brazil, and this discrepancy in frequencies is higher than that in other countries. Sodium chloride (0.9%) was the crystalloid most commonly prescribed. Serum albumin levels and the type of fluid prescriber were the factors associated with the choice of crystalloids or colloids for fluid resuscitation.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Adherence to treatment is one of the pillars to achieve control of any disease and this also applies to rheumatoid arthritis. There are different ways to assess the level of adherence, and measurement scales are one of the methods most used due to their easy application and low cost. The aim of this study was to translate and validate the Compliance Questionnaire on Rheumatology (CQR) to Spanish and calibrate the scores according to the activity of the disease measured by the DAS-28. Materials and methods: The translation process was carried out in the first phase of the study using guidelines for translation and cultural adaptation of measures focused on patients. This was followed by cognitive clarification process. Finally, a study of diagnostic tests was carried out to determine the best cut-off point for the score on the CQR scale for identifying the level of adherence to rheumatic therapy in patients with rheumatoid arthritis using the DAS-28 as subrogated adherence. Results: The study included 233 patients, with a mean age of 46.3 (±13.9) years and mean time with the disease of 11.2 (±9.6) years. The CQR cut-off to establish adherence to treatment was 80.7. This achieved a sensitivity of 80.2% (95% CI: 71.9-86.9%) and specificity of 72.3% (95% CI: 63.1-80.4%). With this cut-off point, it was established that there was 43.8% (n = 102) patient adherence to oral rheumatic therapy. Conclusion: CQR Spanish version of the CQR was developed and calibrated obtaining a practical tool, with acceptable sensitivity and specificity.

ABSTRACT Objective: To conduct a cross-cultural adaptation of the Cambridge Pulmonary Hypertension Outcome Review (CAMPHOR) as an instrument to evaluate the perception of symptoms, functional limitation, and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) in subjects diagnosed with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) or chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension (CTEPH) in Colombia. Methods: The adaptation process involved 3 phases: translation, cognitive debriefing interviews, and a validation survey. To evaluate the psychometric properties, we recruited individuals ≥ 18 years of age who had been diagnosed with PAH or CTEPH to take part in the latter two stages of the adaptation process. All individuals were being followed on an outpatient basis by the pulmonary hypertension programs at Hospital Universitario San Ignacio, Fundación Clínica Shaio,and Clínicos IPS, all located in the city of Bogotá, Colombia. Results: A Spanish-language version of the CAMPHOR was developed for use in Colombia. The internal consistency was excellent for the symptoms, functioning, and quality of life scales (Cronbach’s alpha coefficients of 0.92, 0.87, and 0.93, respectively). Test-retest reliability was above 0.70. The evaluation of the convergent validity and known group validity of the CAMPHOR scales confirmed that there were moderate and strong correlations with the related constructs of the Medical Outcomes Study 36-item Short-Form Health Survey, version 2, as well as showing their capacity to discriminate disease severity. Conclusions: The Spanish-language version of the CAMPHOR developed for use in Colombia was the result of a translation and cultural adaptation process that allows us to consider it equivalent to the original version, having shown good psychometric properties in the study sample. Therefore, its use to assess the impact of interventions on the HRQoL of patients with PAH or CTEPH is recommended, in research and clinical practice.

Abstract: In order to know the contribution and decomposition of litter as an ecosystem process through which nutrients are transferred to the soil, two study sites (2 500 m2) were evaluated during one year: El Brillante, where the forest structure is conditioned by Quercus sideroxyla and Pinus cooperi var. ornelasii, and Santa Bárbara, with Cupressus lusitanica and Pseudotsuga menziesii and different composition of species; in each one, ten 1 m2 litter collectors were installed, in which the collection was made every two weeks. This material was separated into components: leaves, reproductive structure, branches, bark, insects, feces and others (moss, resin and unidentified tissue). To measure foliar decomposition, 160 bags with 10 g of dry litter were distributed per site and reviewed each month. Total litter production was 5.9 (El Brillante) and 3.6 Mg ha-1 year (Santa Bárbara). Through a regression analysis, the Simple Negative Exponential model was the best to describe the relationship between the initial and final weight in the decomposition. For the decomposition of 50 and 90 % of the mass of the leaves, the time required was 1.6 and 10.8 years, respectively. El Brillante has a higher production of litter, however, the decomposition process is similar to that of Santa Bárbara. The comparison of averages in the litter contribution and decomposition of the foliar fraction for the study sites was carried out with the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test.

Abstract: The present work was carried out to determine the animals resistant to gastroenteric nematodes in Pelibuey sheep. 40 naturally infected ewes without deworming were sampled every 15 days for a year. The FAMACHA method was used to detect anemic animals when they were infested predominantly by Haemonchus contortus, blood samples were taken to make microhematocrit and stool samples to determine the existing parasites and the parasite load. The samples were processed in the Laboratories of Parasitology and Clinical Analysis of the Academic Unit of Veterinary Medicine of the UAN. The values of hematocrit, parasite load, body condition and FAMACHA score were used to determine the resistance condition. It is concluded that the herd under study maintained a state of resistance to gastrointestinal nematodes (70.5%) throughout the year. In addition, it was evidenced that during the seasons of the year, the herd showed more sensibility in summer and greater resistance in Autumn-Winter.
