RESUMO Objetivo investigar os aspectos cognitivos relacionados à orientação temporoespacial, atenção concentrada auditiva, percepção visual, memória, habilidades aritméticas, linguagem, praxias e funções executivas em indivíduos jovens adultos com transtorno do zumbido. RESUMO Objetivo analisar as respostas do processamento das informações auditivas em sujeitos adultos jovens com transtorno do zumbido. Métodos estudo de caráter descritivo e quantitativo. Participaram do estudo 36 sujeitos, com idades entre 19 e 35 anos, divididos em dois grupos: Grupo 1 (20 sujeitos com zumbido crônico) e Grupo 2 (16 sujeitos sem zumbido). ABSTRACT Purpose Objective: To analyze auditory information processing responses in young adult subjects with tinnitus disorder. Methods A descriptive and quantitative study was conducted, involving 36 subjects aged between 19 and 35 years. ABSTRACT Purpose: to compare the Auditory Middle Latency Response in adults, one group with and another group without altered auditory skills. In addition, the aim was to compare cut-off values of 30% and 50% for the Ear Effect in terms of sensitivity and specificity. RESUMO Objetivo analisar o impacto do distanciamento social devido à pandemia de COVID-19, sob a percepção e o incômodo com o zumbido crônico e a relação dos achados com a ansiedade e a depressão. Métodos a amostra foi composta por conveniência, incluindo sujeitos com idades de 21 a 78 anos. A avaliação foi realizada em dois períodos: pré-distanciamento (final de 2019) e durante o distanciamento (2020). A segunda avaliação foi realizada de forma online, via Google Forms, consistindo nos seguintes procedimentos: questionário semiestruturado, Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI), Inventário de Ansiedade de Beck (BAI) e Inventário de Depressão de Beck (BDI). ABSTRACT Purpose To analyze the impact of social distancing, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, on the perception and nuisance with chronic tinnitus and the relationship of the findings with anxiety and depression. Methods The sample was composed by convenience, including subjects aged 21 to 78 years. The evaluation was conducted in two periods: pre-distancing (late 2019) and during distancing (2020). RESUMO Objetivo Investigar se há diferenças nos achados audiológicos periféricos e centrais entre indivíduos com limiares auditivos normais com e sem zumbido crônico e, com isso, entender quais exames auditivos são importantes nessa população. Métodos A amostra foi composta por conveniência, incluindo indivíduos de 18 a 59 anos, divididos em dois grupos: grupo 1 (G1), formado por sujeitos sem queixa de zumbido crônico e grupo 2 (G2), por indivíduos com zumbido crônico. A avaliação consistiu nos seguintes procedimentos: anamnese, audiometria de altas frequências (AAF), emissões otoacústicas transientes (EOAT), potencial evocado auditivo de tronco encefálico (PEATE)-clique, frequency following response (FFR) e o potencial evocado auditivo de longa latência (PEALL)-fala. Resultados O G2 apresentou valores aumentados para a AFF, com diferenças significativas. Para ambos os grupos, a EOAT mostrou predominância de presença de respostas. No PEATE, não houve diferenças estatisticamente significativas. No FFR, o G1 obteve maior amplitude de onda V e houve maior ocorrência de ausências no PEALL dos potenciais P1, N2 e P300, no G2. Conclusão A AAF, a análise da relação da onda V/I do PEATE, o FFR e o PEALL identificaram alterações nos indivíduos com zumbido crônico, demonstrando que tais procedimentos são promissores na avaliação dessa população.

ABSTRACT Purpose To investigate whether there are differences in peripheral and central audiological findings between individuals with normal hearing thresholds with and without chronic tinnitus, and thereby understand which hearing tests are most important in this population. Methods The sample was composed of convenience, including individuals from 18 to 59 years old, divided into two groups: Group 1 (G1) composed of subjects without complaints of chronic tinnitus, and Group 2 (G2) composed of individuals with chronic tinnitus. The evaluation consisted of the following procedures: Anamnesis, High-frequency audiometry (HFA), Transient Otoacoustic emissions (TOAEs), Auditory Brainstem Response (ABR)-click, Frequency Following Response (FFR), and Long Latency Auditory Evoked Potential (LLAEP)-speak. Results G2 showed increased values for HFA, with significant differences. For both groups, TOAEs showed a predominance of responses. In ABR there were no statistically significant differences. In FFR, G1 obtained a greater amplitude of wave V and there was a greater absence in LLAEP of P1, N2, and P300 in G2. Conclusion The HFA, the analysis of the wave V/I ratio in ABR, the FFR, and the LLAEP identified alterations in individuals with chronic tinnitus, demonstrating that such procedures are promising in the evaluation of this population.

RESUMO Objetivo: comparar a latência e a amplitude do Frequency-Following Response e do Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência em indivíduos típicos e com alterações das habilidades auditivas, assim como investigar a sensibilidade e especificidade de ambas as avaliações frente ao processamento auditivo central. Métodos: 32 indivíduos de ambos os sexos foram distribuídos em Grupo 1 (sem alterações de habilidades auditivas) e Grupo 2 (com alteração em habilidades auditivas). Os grupos foram divididos de acordo com testes comportamentais do processamento auditivo central. Os indivíduos de ambos os grupos foram submetidos aos potenciais evocados auditivos. O teste T de Student foi utilizado para a análise, considerando 5% de significância. Resultados: no Grupo 2, V e A apresentaram maior latência e menor amplitude e slope. O Grupo 2 também apresentou menores amplitudes de Na e Pa nas ondas A1C3 e A2C3. O Frequency-Following Response apresentou 93% de sensibilidade e especificidade, enquanto o Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência apresentou 87% de sensibilidade e 93% de especificidade. Conclusão: os indivíduos com alteração das habilidades auditivas apresentaram maior latência e menor amplitude de resposta no Frequency Following Response e Potencial Evocado Auditivo de Média Latência em relação aos indivíduos típicos. O Frequency-Following Response apresentou melhor equilíbrio de sensibilidade e especificidade.

ABSTRACT Purpose: to compare the latency and amplitude of the Frequency-Following Response and the Auditory Middle Latency Response in typical individuals and those with altered auditory abilities, as well as to investigate the sensitivity and specificity of both assessments in relation to central auditory processing. Methods: 32 individuals of both sexes were distributed into Group 1 (without altered auditory abilities) and Group 2 (with altered auditory abilities). The groups were divided according to behavioral tests of central auditory processing. Individuals in both groups underwent auditory evoked potentials. Student’s t-test was used for analysis, considering a 5% significance. Results: in Group 2, V and A had higher latency and lower amplitude and slope. Group 2 also had lower Na and Pa amplitudes in waves A1C3 and A2C3. The Frequency-Following Response showed 93% sensitivity and specificity, while the Auditory Middle Latency Response showed 87% sensitivity and 93% specificity. Conclusion: the individuals presented with altered hearing abilities showed higher latency and lower response amplitude in the Frequency Following Response and Auditory Middle Latency Response compared to typical individuals. The Frequency- Following Response showed a better balance of sensitivity and specificity.

RESUMO Objetivo Verificar a correlação das diferentes médias tonais (tritonal, quadritonal e octonal) com o Índice Percentual de Reconhecimento de Fala e com a desvantagem auditiva. Métodos Participaram do estudo 56 sujeitos, distribuídos em dois grupos, com configuração audiométrica descendente: Grupo 1 (G1) - 28 sujeitos com média tritonal igual ou inferior a 25 dBNA e Grupo 2 (G2) - 28 sujeitos com média tritonal pior que 25 dBNA (G2), sendo pareados quanto ao gênero e idade (p= 0,544). Todos foram submetidos à audiometria tonal liminar, Índice Percentual de Reconhecimento de Fala (IPRF) com lista monossilábica de palavras gravadas, medidas de imitância acústica e ao questionário Hearing Handicap Inventory for Adults. A análise de correlação foi realizada entre as médias de três frequências (M3), de quatro frequências (M4) e de oito frequências (M8) com o IPRF e com a desvantagem auditiva, utilizando o teste de correlação de Spearman, sendo o nível de significância considerado <0,05 (5%). Resultados Evidenciou-se correlação estatisticamente significativa do IPRF com a M8, para o G1, e do IPRF com M4 e M8, para o G2. Observou-se tendência à significância, tanto para o G1, como para o G2, em relação à M8, quando correlacionada com a desvantagem auditiva, demonstrando que analisar as oito frequências do audiograma (frequências mais agudas que 4000 Hz) parece possibilitar maior compreensão em relação à desvantagem auditiva do paciente. Conclusão Houve correlação estatisticamente significativa do IPRF com a M8, nos dois grupos, denotando uma redução no desempenho do IPRF, com o aumento da média, considerando as oito frequências. A M8 refletiu melhor a desvantagem auditiva causada pela perda auditiva, no G1.

ABSTRACT Purpose To verify the correlation of different tonal means (tritonal, quadritonal and octanol) with the Percentage Index of Speech Recognition and with hearing disadvantage. Methods 56 subjects participated in the study, distributed into two groups, with descendant audiometric configuration: Subjects with tritonal average equal to or less than 25 dB HL(G1) and subjects with a tritone average worse than 25 dB HL(G2), being matched for sex and age (p=0.544). All were safe by Threshold Tone Audiometry, Speech Recognition Percentage Index (IPRF) with a list of keywords, Acoustic I Measures and the Elearing Handicap Inventory for Adults. The correlation analysis was performed between the averages, of three frequencies (M3), of four frequencies (M4) and of eight frequencies (M8) with the IPRF and with auditory disadvantage, using the Spearman correlation test, the significance level being considered <0.05 (5%). Results There was a statistically significant correlation of the IPRF with M8 , for G1, and the IPRF with M4 and M8, for G2. There was a tendency towards significance, both for G1 and G2, in relation to M8 when correlated with hearing impairment, demonstrating that analyzing the eight frequencies of the audiogram (frequencies higher than 4000 Hz) seems to allow a greater understanding of the patient’s hearing handicap. Conclusion There was a statistically significant correlation between the IPRF and M8, in both groups, denoting a reduction in the performance of the IPRF, with an increase in the mean, considering the eight frequencies. M8 better reflected the hearing disadvantage caused by the hearing loss in G1.

RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi criar um protocolo de treinamento auditivo e cognitivo para idosos e analisar a sua eficácia. O estudo foi realizado em três etapas: (1) seleção de materiais, compreendendo materiais existentes e outros confeccionados pelos autores; (2) análise de juízes especialistas, para consenso quanto às habilidades avaliadas e tipo de treinamento; (3) aplicação do protocolo em um caso clínico, com realização de uma bateria de testes para avaliação pré e pós-intervenção, consistindo em avaliação cognitiva e auditiva (comportamental e eletrofisiológica). Foi possível a estruturação do protocolo de acordo com as sugestões das juízas especialistas, o que gerou uma nova proposta de treinamento auditivo e cognitivo com 39 tarefas, dispostas em seis sessões. Com a aplicação do protocolo no caso clínico, observaram-se modificações positivas nos dois aspectos treinados. A nova proposta terapêutica foi concluída e aplicada. O sujeito do caso clínico obteve melhoras pós-intervenção e a eficácia foi verificada por meio dos testes comportamentais de processamento auditivo central, de rastreio cognitivo e do potencial evocado auditivo de longa latência.

ABSTRACT The objective of the work was create an auditory and cognitive training protocol for the elderly and to analyze its effectiveness. This study was carried out in three stages: (1) Selection of materials, composed of existing materials and others made by the authors, (2) Analysis of expert judges, for consensus regarding the assessed skills and type of training, and (3) Application of the protocol in a clinical case, with a battery of tests for pre-and post-intervention, composed of cognitive and auditory assessment (behavioral and electrophysiological). It was possible to structure the protocol according to the suggestions of the expert judges, which generated a new proposal for auditory and cognitive training with 39 tasks arranged in six sessions. With the application of the protocol in the clinical case, it was possible to observe positive changes in both trained aspects. The new therapeutic proposal has been completed and applied. The clinical case has shown improvement after the intervention, and the effectiveness was verified through behavioral tests of central auditory processing, cognitive screening, and long-latent auditory evoked potential.
