O artigo analisa as trajetórias biográfico-literárias de Alfonsina Storni (1892-1938) e Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937) e a maneira como suas respectivas obras se moldaram às exigências e às oportunidades de trabalho na imprensa e nas revistas de variedades, conferindo uma feição inovadora a gêneros consagrados por meio de linguagens ajustadas às preferências do público emergente e aos moldes imperativos da mídia impressa. Outsiders para o meio literário argentino canônico, responderam aos intentos de desqualificação com recursos políticos e literários ao seu alcance, juntando a excelência de letrados profissionais à entonação candente do pesadelo privado.

The article analyses the literary-biographical trajectories of Alfonsina Storni (1892-1938) and Horacio Quiroga (1878-1937) and the way they adjusted their work to the demands and opportunities of press media and popular magazines, conferring an innovative character to established genres by means of an adjustment of the literary language to the preferences of an emerging public. Outsiders on the eyes of the Argentine literary élite, they responded to the intents of disqualification with the political and literary resources at their disposal, combining the excellence of professional literates to the intense intonations of private nightmares.

Resumo: Memória e utopia, transmutadas em linguagem teatral, renovam a apreensão da relação entre dramaturgia e experiência social. Em A moratória (1955) e Rastro atrás (1966), a lembrança do descenso da família de Jorge Andrade impregna a fala dos personagens e dos objetos que os cercam. Neles se inscreve a história da família e da oligarquia agrária a que pertenceu o dramaturgo. A peça de Gianfrancesco Guarnieri, Eles não usam black-tie (1958), ativou os sonhos de uma geração sobre o potencial da cultura na reordenação da sociedade. O operariado estreou nos palcos da metrópole pelo drama de uma família tensionada pela greve, pelo conflito geracional e pela luta de classes. Eis a prova do relevo da cena teatral numa conjuntura excepcional de transformação da cultura brasileira, sinalizada pelo cinema novo e pelo intrincado entrelaçamento do teatro, com o rádio e com o início da televisão no país.

Abstract: Memory and utopia translated into theatrical language renew the apprehension of the relationship between drama and social experience. In “A moratoria” (1955) and “Rastro atrás” (1966), the remembrance of Jorde Andrade’s family decline nurtures the characters sayings and the objects surrounding them, a sample of the family and of the rural class history to which he belonged. Gianfrancesco Guarnieri’s “Eles não usam black-tie” (1958) woke up the dreams of the young generation towards the potential of culture’s contribution to a better society. The working class protagonists performed for the first time in the metropolis’ stages through a family drama overwhelmed by the strike, the generational conflict and the class struggle. All this higlights the decisive role of the theatre in a changing moment of Brazilian culture, besides the rise of “cinema novo”, proving the connection between the theatre, the radio and the beginning of television in the country.

O artigo confronta os itinerários de formação artística e profissional de Lasar Segall e Xul Solar no exterior, com ênfase nas vicissitudes de sua história social, nos modelos de aprendizagem artística na Europa e nas respostas estéticas reconhecíveis em sua produção plástica após a fixação de ambos nos mercados de arte, respectivamente, no Brasil e na Argentina.

The article compares and contrasts the artistic and professional formations of Laser Segall and Xul Solar abroad, with emphasis on the vicissitudes of their social histories, models of artistic learning in Europe and the aesthetic responses discernable in their output after establishing themselves in their respective art markets in Brazil and Argentina.

Este artigo examina condicionantes e práticas sociais que viabilizaram a trajetória literária de Jorge Luis Borges, autor que teria logrado apagar as marcas de sua vida pessoal. Por meio da análise dos textos de juventude, das relações familiares e do campo literário argentino no início do século XX, o artigo deslinda novas chaves para a compreensão da obra borgeana.

This essay seeks the social practices that made possible the literary trajectory of Jorge Luis Borges, author who would have erased the traces of his personal life. Taking as a guideline his early writings, family relations and the Argentine literary field in the first decades of the XXth century, the article suggests new keys to the interpretation of Borges’ work.

O artigo busca correlacionar os livros de estréia da primeira geração de modernistas em São Paulo às experiências sociais desses letrados, com ênfase no impacto exercido pelas circunstâncias de crise e mudança que afetaram de perto a trajetória de suas famílias, pela formação escolar e universitária, bem como pelas oportunidades de iniciativa e de investimento nos diversos gêneros e frentes da atividade intelectual e artística, num momento estratégico de definição de seus projetos intelectuais como autores, prensados entre veleidades criativas, impulsos doutrinários, aventuras amorosas e a prestação de serviços políticos e culturais aos dirigentes oligárquicos.

The article seeks to view the São Paulo generation of modernist writers' first published books from the standpoint of their social experiences, emphasizing the impact due to the circumstances surrounding the crisis and change of their families trajectories, to their scholarly training and education, as well as to their initiatives and investments in the several genres and domains of intellectual and artistic activity, in a strategic moment of definition of their intellectual projects as authors, immersed in creative dreams, doctrinal crushes, amorous encounters and the political and cultural services they used to render to the ruling politicians.

O artigo examina a sociologia da cultura de Pierre Bourdieu à luz de três conceitos chaves - as noções de prática, habitus e campo -, buscando, de um lado, apreender os significados cambiantes desses termos em diferentes momentos da trajetória intelectual do autor e, de outro, ressaltando as conexões entre os objetos empíricos abordados e os respectivos modelos de interpretação sociológica da vida intelectual e cultural ancorados nesse paradigma.

The article examines Pierre Bourdieu's sociology of culture and three key concepts - the notions of practice, habitus and field -, with the aim of, on the one hand, studying the changing meanings of these terms at different periods of the author's intellectual development and, on the other, highlighting the links between the empirical objects analyzed and the respective models of sociological interpretation of intellectual and cultural life anchored on this paradigm.
