Resumo O aumento da modificação dos habitats e da perda de espécies demanda esforços consistentes para descrever e compreender os padrões de biodiversidade. O programa BIOTA/FAPESP foi criado nesse contexto e é uma iniciativa de sucesso para promover estudos em biodiversidade e conservação no Brasil. O BIOTA/Araçá é um projeto interdisciplinar que promoveu uma avaliação detalhada da biodiversidade da Baía do Araçá, um ecossistema costeiro localizado ao Norte do estado de São Paulo, Sudeste do Brasil. A baía engloba múltiplos habitats, tais como praias, manguezais, costões rochosos, e uma planície de maré, e também fornece importantes serviços ecossistêmicos. Infelizmente, a baía está sujeita à conflitos sócio-ambientais complexos que contrastam demandas econômicas, sociais e ambientais (i.e. a expansão das atividades do porto vizinho vs. a pesca artesanal de pequena escala e a proteção da biodiversidade). O presente estudo apresenta um levantamento das espécies bentônicas que ocorrem nos diferentes habitats da Baía do Araçá, incluindo dados obtidos durante o projeto BIOTA/Araçá e de investigações realizadas anteriormente na área. As espécies bentônicas desempenham um papel importante no ambiente marinho, e estudar a diversidade desses organismos que vivem associados ao fundo é indispensável para compreender o funcionamento do meio ambiente. A macrofauna, meiofauna, e microorganismos associados aos fundos consolidado e inconsolidado foram listados, e informações adicionais foram fornecidas para cada espécie, tais como a distribuição geográfica e nos habitats. O checklist inclui 826 espécies, quase 70% registradas durante o projeto BIOTA/Araçá. Os taxa mais especiosos foram os anelídeos (225 spp.), moluscos (194 spp.), e crustáceos (177 spp.). Entre as espécies bentônicas listadas, sete são endêmicas da Baía do Araçá, 14 são consideradas ameaçadas de extinção, e sete são exploradas economicamente. Abstract Increasing habitat modification and species loss demand consistent efforts to describe and understand biodiversity patterns. The BIOTA/FAPESP Program was created in this context and it has been a successful initiative to promote studies on biodiversity and conservation in Brazil. The BIOTA/Araçá is an interdisciplinary project that provided a detailed evaluation of the biodiversity of Araçá Bay, a coastal seascape located on the North coast of the state of São Paulo, Southeast Brazil. The bay encompasses multiple habitats, such as beaches, mangroves, rocky shores, and a tidal flat, and provides important ecosystem services. Unfortunately, the bay is the subject of complex social-environmental conflicts that oppose economic, social, and environmental demands (i.e., the expansion of neighboring harbor activities vs. small-scale artisanal fisheries and protection of biodiversity). The present study presents a survey of the benthic species occurring in the different habitats of Araçá Bay, including data obtained during the BIOTA/Araçá project and previous assessments of the area. The benthic species play an important role in marine environments and studying the diversity of these organisms that live associated with the bottom is indispensable for comprehending the environment’s functioning. The macrofauna, meiofauna, and microorganisms associated with soft and hard bottom were listed, and additional information, such as the habitat and geographical distribution, were provided for each species. The checklist includes 826 species, almost 70% recorded during the BIOTA/Araçá project. The most speciose taxa were the annelids (225 spp.), mollusks (194 spp.), and crustaceans (177 spp.). Seven benthic species are endemic to Araçá Bay, 14 are considered threatened, and seven are economically exploited. Furthermore, the bay is the type locality of many taxa, and 11 new benthic species were described based on specimens sampled during the project. Abstract Peri-implant diseases, including peri-implant mucositis (PIM) and peri-implantitis, are a chronic inflammatory disorder triggered by bacterial biofilm in susceptible hosts. Potential risk factors for peri-implant diseases include smoking, dental plaque accumulation, poor oral hygiene, genetics, and absence of peri-implant keratinized mucosa. This cohort study aimed to evaluate the influence of patient-, implant-, and prosthetic-related factors on PIM and peri-implant bone loss (PBL) around dental implants after 1 year of loading. A total of 54 subjects (22 males and 32 females) were included in the study. Peri-implant clinical parameters were assessed and standardized periapical radiographs of each dental implant were obtained 15 days after the definitive prosthesis installation (baseline) and at 3, 6, and 12 months of follow-up. A total of 173 implants were evaluated. PIM affected 44.8% of the implants and no significant association was found between the investigated parameters and PIM incidence, except for type of implant connection. A significantly higher incidence of PIM (80.0%) was observed for implants with internal hexagon connection type after 1 year of follow-up (p = 0.015). Moreover, a mean PBL of 0.35 ± 1.89 mm was observed and no dental implant was affected by peri-implantitis after 1 year of function. No specific influence of patient, implant, or prosthetic factors on PBL was observed. No association was found between the occurrence of PIM/PBL and the patient-, implant-, and prosthetic-related factors investigated in this cohort study, except for the type of dental-implant connection. USE OF ARROWS IN THE CONTEXT OF LEARNING IN CHEMISTRY AND THE IMPORTANCE OF ITS SYMBOLISM. The representation of arrows in Chemistry learning is routinely applied in classrooms and textbooks. Arrows of different shapes like horizontal, curved, vertical, or wavy have been used as symbols since the beginning of ancient civilizations, representing elements or compounds. The arrow is one of the most used symbols in Chemistry, as different types have presented different functions, especially in chemical reactions, and because there is no consensus, their use has generated ambiguities and confusion when applying them. In this sense, the present work sought to present and differentiate the types of arrows used in Chemistry to provide a better understanding of this symbol in the learning process. Furthermore, a historical overview of the emergence of arrows in the world of chemistry and the process of acceptance as chemical symbolism in chemical reactions is provided. The use of arrows in some chemical phenomena (e.g., resonance, tautomerism, symmetry operations, and movement of electrons) is also detailed. This work reflects that arrows, as chemical symbolism, require an increasingly concrete standardized notation system to avoid ambiguities of concepts. Abstract Computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) technology allows the use of different manufacturing techniques. This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the marginal fit of temporary restorations manufactured using conventional chairside methods, milling, and three-dimensional printing. Fifteen 3-element temporary restorations specimens were produced and categorized into three groups: non-digital, obtained using the conventional chairside method (GC); milled (GM); and three-dimensionally printed (GP). Marginal fit was assessed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) performed under two conditions: one with only the central screw tightened, and the other with all three screws tightened. Horizontal misfit values were categorized as over-, equal-, and under-extended and qualitatively analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed using the Tukey–Kramer test (α=0.05). In the vertical assessment, three-dimensionally printed restorations demonstrated greater misfit than restorations obtained by milling and the conventional chairside method (P<0.05). In the horizontal assessment, the misfit in the GP group was significantly higher than that in the GM and GC groups. Restorations obtained using the conventional chairside method and milled provisional restorations showed more favorable results than three-dimensionally printed restorations. RESUMO Contexto: Marcadores não-invasivos foram desenvolvidos para avaliar a presença e a gravidade de anormalidades hepáticas relacionadas à doença hepática gordurosa não-alcoólica (DHGNA). Objetivo: Analisar a acurácia diagnóstica de marcadores não-invasivos de DHGNA (escore de gordura hepática da DHGNA [NLFS], escore não-invasivo de detecção de esteato-hepatite não-alcoólica [NI-NASH-DS] e escore de fibrose de 4 variáveis [FIB-4]) em indivíduos obesos submetidos à cirurgia bariátrica. Métodos: Foi realizado um estudo descritivo retrospectivo transversal com 91 indivíduos submetidos à cirurgia bariátrica em um hospital universitário público de nível terciário. Marcadores não-invasivos de DHGNA foram calculados por meio de exames laboratoriais, variáveis clínicas e antropométricas; testes de acurácia diagnóstica foram calculados comparando-os em relação ao exame padrão-ouro para essa análise (avaliação histopatológica). Resultados: Um total de 85,7% dos participantes eram do sexo feminino e a média de idade foi de 39,1±9,8 anos. O índice de massa corporal médio foi de 38,4±3,6 kg/m2. Ao exame histopatológico, 84 (92,3%) pacientes apresentavam esteatose, 82 (90,1%) com algum grau de fibrose; 21 (23,1%) pacientes foram diagnosticados com esteato-hepatite não-alcoólica (EHNA) de acordo com os critérios do escore de atividade da DHGNA. A acurácia global do escore NLFS foi de 58,2% para esteatose hepática e 61,5% para esteatose moderada a grave. A acurácia global do FIB-4 foi de 95,4% para fibrose avançada. NI-NASH-DS apresentou uma acurácia global de 74,7% para EHNA. Conclusão: Em uma população de indivíduos com obesidade, o escore FIB-4 teve alta acurácia global para avaliar a presença de fibrose hepática avançada, enquanto o NFLS e o NI-NASH-DS tiveram acurácias moderadas para avaliar a esteatose e EHNA, respectivamente. ABSTRACT Background: Non-invasive markers have been developed to assess the presence and severity of liver abnormalities related to non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Objective: To analyze the diagnostic accuracy of non-invasive NAFLD markers (NAFLD liver fat score [NLFS], non-invasive non-alcoholic steatohepatitis detection score [NI-NASH-DS] and fibrosis score based on four variables [FIB-4]) in individuals with obesity undergoing bariatric surgery. Methods: A descriptive retrospective cross-sectional study was carried out enrolling 91 individuals who underwent bariatric surgery at a tertiary-level public university hospital. Non-invasive NAFLD markers were calculated using laboratory tests, clinical and anthropometric variables and diagnostic accuracy tests were calculated comparing them in relation to the gold-standard test for this analysis (histopathological evaluation). Results: A total of 85.7% of the participants were female and mean age was 39.1±9.8 years. The average body mass index was 38.4±3.6 kg/m2. At histopathological examination, 84 (92.3%) patients presented with steatosis, 82 (90.1%) with some type of fibrosis; 21 (23.1%) patients were diagnosed with NASH according to the NAFLD activity score criteria. The overall accuracy of NLFS score was 58.2% for general hepatic steatosis and 61.5% for moderate to severe steatosis. The overall accuracy of FIB-4 was 95.4% for advanced fibrosis. NI-NASH-DS had a 74.7% overall accuracy for NASH. Conclusion: In a population of individuals with obesity, the FIB-4 score had high overall accuracy in assessing the presence of advanced liver fibrosis, whereas the NFLS and NI-NASH-DS had moderate accuracies for the assessment of steatosis and NASH, respectively. Abstract In Malignant Hilar Biliary Stricture (MHBS) palliative biliary drainage is a frequent strategy, improving the quality of life, reducing pruritus, loss of appetite and relieving cholangitis. The endoscopic approach is an effective, although challenging procedure. This study aimed to evaluate technical and clinical success rates of biliary drainage by ERCP. This is a retrospective study including all patients with MHBS referred to Instituto do Cancer do Hospital de São Paulo (ICESP) submitted to biliary drainage by ERCP, between January 2010 and December 2017. Multivariable logistic regression was performed to evaluate predictors of clinical failure, as total bilirubin levels, Bismuth classification, number of hepatic sectors drained and presence of cholangitis. In total, 82 patients presenting unresectable MHBS were included in this study. 58.5% female and 41.5% male, with a mean age of 60±13 years. Bismuth classification grades II, IIIA, IIIB and IV were noted in 23.2%, 15.9%, 14.6% and 46.3%, respectively. Technical and clinical success was achieved in 92.7% and 53.7% respectively. Resumo Introdução Estudos mostram que, dentre os medicamentos mais adquiridos via ação judicial, estão os utilizados para o tratamento do Diabetes Mellitus, especialmente os análogos de insulina. Objetivo Avaliar a utilização do Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) pelos pacientes com Diabetes Mellitus tipo 1 (DM1), que recebem insulina por meio de judicialização, antes e após este processo. Método Em um estudo observacional longitudinal retrospectivo, foram utilizados dados secundários de pacientes com DM1, que adquiriram insulinas por processos judiciais em Divinópolis-MG, Brasil, em 2018. Foram coletadas informações sociodemográficas e referentes ao acompanhamento destes pacientes no SUS Realizou-se o teste χ2 de McNemar para a comparação das proporções das variáveis utilizadas para a avaliação do acompanhamento antes e após a judicialização. Resultados Dos 89 pacientes analisados, predominou-se o sexo feminino (53,9%), com idade entre 20 e 39 anos (52,8%). 55,1% destes utilizam apenas o sistema privado de saúde. Após a judicialização, houve um aumento significativo (p< 0,05) no número de pacientes que realizaram consultas na atenção primária à saúde (de 19,1% para 30,3%) e consultas médicas de emergência (de 1,1% para 9,0%). Abstract Background Studies show that among the drugs most commonly used in judicial litigation in Brazil, are those used to treat diabetes mellitus, especially insulin analogues. RESUMO RACIONAL: A incidência do câncer de esôfago é elevada em algumas regiões e o tratamento cirúrgico requer centros de referência com alto volume para viabilizar a cirurgia. OBJETIVOS: Avaliar os pacientes submetidos à esofagectomia minimamente invasiva, por toracoscopia na posição prona, para o tratamento do câncer de esôfago e conhecer a experiência adquirida ao longo do tempo em nosso serviço após a introdução desta técnica. MÉTODOS: De janeiro de 2012 a agosto de 2021, foram analisados retrospectivamente todos os pacientes submetidos à esofagectomia minimamente invasiva para câncer de esôfago. Para avaliar os fatores associados aos desfechos predefinidos de fístula, pneumonia e óbito intra-hospitalar, realizamos análises de regressão logística univariada e multivariada considerando a idade como fator importante. RESULTADOS: Foram estudados 66 pacientes, com idade média de 59,5 anos. O tipo histológico mais frequente foi carcinoma espinocelular (81,8%). A incidência de pneumonia pós-operatória e fístula foi de 38% e 33,3%, respectivamente. Oito pacientes morreram durante este período. A idade do paciente, os estágios T e N, o ano da realização do procedimento e o desenvolvimento de pneumonia pós-operatória foram fatores que influenciaram o óbito. Houve uma redução de 24% na chance de mortalidade, ano a ano, associada à curva de aprendizado do nosso serviço. CONCLUSÕES: O presente estudo mostrou a importância da experiência da equipe e da concentração do tratamento de pacientes com câncer de esôfago em centros de referência, possibilitando melhorar significativamente o resultado pós-operatório. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The incidence of esophageal cancer is high in some regions and the surgical treatment requires reference centers, with high volume, to make surgery feasible. AIMS: To evaluate patients undergoing minimally invasive esophagectomy by thoracoscopy in prone position for the treatment of esophageal cancer and to recognize the experience acquired over time in our service after the introduction of this technique. METHODS: From January 2012 to August 2021, all patients who underwent the minimally invasive esophagectomy for esophageal cancer were retrospectively analyzed. In order to assess the factors associated with the predefined outcomes as fistula, pneumonia, and intrahospital death, we performed univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, accounting for age as an important factor. RESULTS: Sixty-six patients were studied, with mean age of 59.5 years. The main histological type was squamous cell carcinoma (81.8%). The incidence of postoperative pneumonia and fistula was 38% and 33.3%, respectively. Eight patients died during this period. The patient's age, T and N stages, the year the procedure was performed, and postoperative pneumonia development were factors that influenced postoperative death. Abstract Focal Adhesion Kinase (FAK) protein participates in proliferation, migration, cell survival, and apoptosis process. It has been described as overexpressed in several neoplasms being a promising target for therapy. BCR-ABL negative chronic Myeloproliferative Neoplasms (MPN) are clonal disorders characterized by the excess of proliferation and apoptosis resistance. The identification of the acquired JAK2 V617F mutation in MPN patients allowed a better understanding of pathogenesis. However, there is still no pharmacological treatment that leads all patients to molecular remission, justifying new studies. The present study aimed to evaluate FAK involvement in the viability and apoptosis of HEL and SET-2 cells, both JAK2 V617F positive cell lines. The FAK inhibitor PF 562,271 was used. Cell viability was determined using MTT assay and apoptosis verified by cleaved PARP, cleaved Caspase 3 and Annexin-V/PI staining detection. FAK inhibition significantly reduced HEL and SET-2 cells viability and induced apoptosis. Considering the role of JAK/STAT pathway in MPN, further investigation of FAK participation in the MPN cells proliferation and apoptosis resistance, as well as possible crosstalk between JAK and FAK and downstream pathways may contribute to the knowledge of MPN pathophysiology, the discovery of new molecular targets, and JAK inhibitors resistance mechanisms. Resumo Este artigo trata do relato de experiência do projeto de extensão ResisTO em parceria com uma política pública municipal numa capital do nordeste voltada à população dissidente de gêneros e sexualidades. O relato está organizado em três partes: na primeira parte, o projeto de extensão é apresentado e contextualizado; na segunda parte, discute-se a terapia ocupacional social, seu histórico e a aproximação com as discussões sobre gêneros e sexualidades; a terceira parte contém a trajetória das ações desenvolvidas e as parcerias realizadas ao longo dos seis anos de existência do projeto, elencando e refletindo sobre os principais desafios e a potencialidade do trabalho desenvolvido. O projeto tem se dedicado a ações e reflexões que tomam como base a análise dos marcadores sociais da diferença — em especial, gêneros e sexualidades — e da interseccionalidade. Ancora-se também no referencial teórico-metodológico da terapia ocupacional social e nas políticas públicas voltadas à população LGBTQIAP+. Abstract This study addresses the experience report of the ResisTO university extension project in partnership with a municipal public policy in a state capital in northeastern Brazil aimed at the gender and sexuality dissenting population. The report is organized into three parts: in the first part, the extension project is presented and contextualized; the second part discusses social occupational therapy, its history, and the approach to debates on gender and sexualities; the third part presents the trajectory of the actions developed and the partnerships carried out over the six years of the project’s existence, listing and reflecting on the main challenges and the potential of the work developed. The project has been dedicated to actions and reflections that are based on the analysis of social markers of difference—especially, genders and sexualities—and intersectionality. It is also anchored in the theoretical-methodological framework of social occupational therapy and public policies aimed at the LGBTQIAP+ population. BACKGROUND The Bacille Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine comprises a family of strains with variable protective efficacy against pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) and leprosy, partly due to genetic differences between strains. OBJECTIVES Previous data highlighting differences between the genomes and proteomic profiles of BCG strains Moreau and Pasteur led us to evaluate their behaviour in the macrophage microenvironment, capable of stimulating molecular responses that can impact the protective effect of the vaccine. METHODS Strain infectivity, viability, co-localisation with acidified vesicles, macrophage secretion of IL-1 and MCP-1 and lipid droplet biogenesis were evaluated after infection. FINDINGS We found that BCG Moreau is internalised more efficiently, with significantly better intracellular survival up to 96 h p.i., whereas more BCG Pasteur bacilli were found co-localised in acidified vesicles up to 6 h p.i. IL-1β and MCP-1 secretion and lipid droplet biogenesis by infected macrophages were more prominent in response to BCG Pasteur. MAIN CONCLUSION Overall, our results show that, compared to Pasteur, BCG Moreau has increased fitness and better endurance in the harsh intracellular environment, also regulating anti-microbial responses (lower IL-1b and MCP-1). These findings contribute to the understanding of the physiology of BCG Moreau and Pasteur in response to the intraphagosomal environment in a THP-1 macrophage model. Resumen Los avances y retrocesos de la participación ciudadana en Brasil, especialmente desde la elección de Lula en 2003, alteraron significativamente el escenario político de la relación sociedad-Estado en el país, provocando una discusión sobre la autonomía de los movimientos sociales frente al Estado. Este trabajo reflexiona sobre la mencionada relación desde la categoría autonomía y tiene como universo empírico el Movimiento Brasileño de Economía Solidaria (MBES). El trabajo resulta de dos investigaciones cualitativas realizadas bajo el caso del MBES. Metodológicamente, se ha realizado revisión de literatura, investigación documental y empírica con entrevistas semiestructuradas y observación participante. El MBES, en su relación con el Estado, ha pasado de la autonomía independiente a interdependiente y después a la insertada; y, en el presente momento, presenta señales de regreso a la autonomía independiente.

Abstract The advances and setbacks of citizen participation in Brazil, especially since the election of Lula in 2003, have significantly altered the political scenario of the society-State relationship in the country, provoking a discussion on the autonomy of social movements vis-à-vis the State. This paper reflects on the society-State relationship from autonomy as a category with the Brazilian Solidarity Economy Movement (BSEM) as the subject matter. Methodologically, this paper comprises partial results of two qualitative studies with the BSEM through the scope of an extensive literature review, desk research, and empirical research through semistructured interviews and participant observation. In its relationship with the State, the BSEM has moved from independent autonomy to interdependent autonomy, and later to embedded autonomy; at present, it shows signs of a return to independent autonomy.

Resumen El presente estudio trata de un análisis estadístico del proceso productivo en una organización del sector alimentario, específicamente, en la rama de raíces. Además, este estudio se caracteriza por la utilización de un análisis híbrido con la fusión de aspectos cualitativos y cuantitativos con el fin de mejorar la generación de conocimiento, así como facilitar la interpretación de los resultados obtenidos. Como metodología de trabajo se desarrolló el cuadro de control por variable a partir de datos recolectados durante las visitas a la organización. El estudio también realiza una aproximación a los índices de capacidad desde la perspectiva del proceso de empaque de la yuca así como un análisis del porcentaje de partidas fuera de las especificaciones. Cabe mencionar el uso del diagrama de Ishikawa para identificar las causas raíz de la variabilidad del proceso, además de proponer medidas correctivas para dichas causas. Finalmente, de acuerdo a los análisis realizados, la organización en mención presentó un proceso de empaque de productos eficiente y de calidad, ya que todas las muestras se encontraban dentro de los límites de control establecidos estadísticamente y el porcentaje de artículos fuera de las especificaciones se mostró reducido, es decir solo un 3% aproximadamente.

Abstract The present study deals with a statistical analysis of the production process in an organization in the food sector, specifically, in the branch of roots. In addition, this study is characterized by the use of a hybrid analysis with the fusion of qualitative and quantitative aspects in order to improve the generation of knowledge as well as to facilitate the interpretation of the results obtained. As a work methodology, the control chart by variable was developed from data collected during visits to the organization. The study also carries out an approach on the capacity indexes from the perspective of the cassava packaging process as well as an analysis of the percentage of items outside the specifications. It is worth mentioning the use of the Ishikawa diagram to identify root causes of process variability, in addition to proposing corrective measures for such causes. Finally, according to the analyzes carried out, the organization in question presented an efficient and quality product packaging process, since all samples were within the control limits established statistically and the percentage of items outside the specifications was showed reduced, meaning only approximately 3%.
