ABSTRACT Purpose Compare infant suction in babies with and without ankyloglossia using a microprocessor-controlled pressure sensor coupled to a pacifier. Methods Fifty-five infants from 0 to 2 months of age underwent clinical examination for ankyloglossia, after which they were offered a silicone pacifier connected to the pressure acquisition device and suction activity was recorded. Thus, we extracted the frequency of sucks within a burst, the average suck duration, the burst duration, the number of sucks per burst, the maximum amplitude of sucks per burst and the inter-burst interval. Results The key difference in newborns with ankyloglossia in relation to control was that they perform longer bursts of suction activity. Conclusion The longer burst durations are likely a compensatory strategy and may underlie the pain reported by mothers during breastfeeding. We therefore propose a method for objectively quantifying some parameters of infant suction capacity and demonstrate its use in assisting the evaluation of ankyloglossia. microprocessorcontrolled microprocessor controlled Fiftyfive Fifty five recorded Thus duration interburst inter interval breastfeeding

Abstract With the growing demand for solutions to prevent and resolve faults in gas-insulated substations that affect the operation of the electrical system, a fault simulation laboratory for gas-insulated substations was developed to develop solutions for monitoring and locating these faults. The laboratory is composed of instruments for a fault location system based on traveling wave theory. The laboratory also has computational programs for fault simulation control and signal acquisition, in addition to having tools to analyze the data. The results were obtained through tests carried out that confirmed the laboratory's ability to simulate the operation of faults in gas-insulated substations, which allowed demonstrating the capacity of the fault location system using the theory of traveling waves. gasinsulated gas insulated acquisition data laboratorys s waves

Abstract Background Firefighters are regularly exposed to stress and have a high incidence of cardiovascular events. Investigating cardiovascular and autonomic reactivity to acute mental stress (AMS) and its association with adiposity may contribute to explaining the increased cardiovascular risk in these professionals. Objectives To evaluate cardiovascular and autonomic reactivity to AMS in firefighters while considering adiposity parameters. Methods This study recorded the blood pressure and heart rate (HR) of twenty-five firefighters (38±8 years) at rest, while performing the Stroop color-word test to induce AMS, and recovery. Cardiac autonomic modulation (HR variability), baroreflex sensitivity (BRS — sequential method), and adiposity (electrical bioimpedance) were assessed. One-way or two-way analysis of variance followed by Tukey’s post hoc test and multiple linear regression were performed. The significance level was P<0.05. Results The AMS increased mean arterial pressure (MAP — Δ16±13 mmHg) and HR (Δ14±7 bpm) ( P <0.05). These responses were associated with parasympathetic modulation withdrawal (RMSSD: baseline: 29.8±18 vs. AMS: 21.5±14 ms; High-frequency: baseline: 5.2±1.4 vs. AMS: 4.5±1.3 Ln ms 2 ; P <0.05) and decreased in the Up gain of the baroreflex (baseline: 8.9±5.1 vs. AMS: 6.3±3.0 mmHg/ms; P <0.05). Groups divided by HR reactivity peak showed parasympathetic modulation withdrawal only in firefighters with lower adiposity (RMSSD: baseline: 27.8±17.6 vs. AMS: 14.4±9.2 ms; High-Frequency: baseline: 5.3±1.2 vs. AMS: 3.8±1.4 Ln ms 2 ; P <0.05). Fat percentage (β = -0.499), BRS (β = 0.486), and sympathetic/parasympathetic balance (β = -0.351) were predictors of HR reactivity ( P <0.05). Conclusion Our results demonstrated that HR reactivity to AMS modulated by cardiac vagal withdrawal seems to be influenced by body composition in this group of firefighters. events (AMS professionals parameters twentyfive twenty five 38±8 388 38 8 (38± years rest colorword color word recovery variability, variability , variability) method, method method) electrical bioimpedance assessed Oneway One way twoway two Tukeys Tukey s performed P005 0 05 P<0.05 MAP Δ1613 Δ Δ16 13 Δ16±1 mmHg Δ14±7 Δ147 Δ14 7 (Δ14± bpm <0.05. 005 <0.05 . ABSTRACT The resistance of a weed to a herbicide may be accompanied by an ecological disadvantage, which can hinder the establishment of resistant biotypes when the herbicide is not used. The aim of this study, therefore, was to evaluate the growth and phenology of two biotypes of Raphanus raphanistrum, one susceptible and the other resistant to ALS inhibitors. The research was carried out from August to December 2020, conducting two simultaneous experiments, with the susceptible and resistant biotypes grown as single crops or together with wheat. The parameters under evaluation were plant height, number of leaves, leaf area, shoot dry weight, growth rate, leaf area ratio, net assimilation rate, and phenology - determined using the BBCH scale. The results showed not only that development and growth in the sensitive biotype was greater compared to the resistant biotype, but also the precocity of the biotype. The only variable for which the resistant biotype was superior was root dry weight. Cross-resistance to ALS inhibitors resulted in a difference in the growth and phenology of the resistant biotype that should be better evaluated, as the populations present large genetic differences. disadvantage used study therefore raphanistrum 2020 experiments wheat height leaves weight rate ratio scale Crossresistance Cross evaluated differences 202 20 2

Abstract Objectives: to evaluate the association between breastfeeding and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children and adolescents. Methods: this is a case-control study carried out in the north of the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, which included 248 children and adolescents diagnosed with ASD (case group) and 886 children and adolescents without a diagnosis of ASD (control group).Interviews were conducted with the mothers of children and adolescents and a semi-structured questionnaire was used to collect data. For data analysis, a multiple logistic regression model was adopted. The magnitude of associations was estimated by the odds ratio (OR). Three multiple models were fitted: Model 1: presence or absence of breastfeeding; Model 2: duration of breastfeeding; Model 3: duration of exclusive breastfeeding. Results: ASD was associated with the absence of breastfeeding in the three adjusted models: Model 1: OR=2.1, CI95%=1.1-4.1; Model 2: OR=2.3, CI95%=1.2-4.5; Model 3: OR=2.3, CI95%=1.2-4.5. Conclusions: individuals with ASD were more likely to have not received breastfeeding, however, due to the nature of case control studies, it cannot be stated that breastfeeding prevents ASD. Conducting a cohort study may clarify this relationship. Resultados: o TEA foi associado à ausência de aleitamento materno nos três modelos ajustados: Modelo 1: OR=2,1, IC95%=1,1-4,1; Modelo 2: OR=2,3, IC95%=1,2-4,5; Modelo 3: OR=2,3, IC95%=1,2-4,5. . controle) múltipla OR. ABSTRACT: coloniality is a concept that reflects colonialist power's racist patterns in contemporary context. Drawing on the Epistemology of the Brazilian Macumbas and the Pedagogy of Crossroads, formulated by Luiz Rufino and Luiz Antônio Simas, we advocate for an “enchanted” approach to science teaching: an opportunity to transcend coloniality through science education. Initially, we situate the works of the authors Simas and Rufino within decolonial thought. Subsequently, we explore the underpinnings of the Epistemology of the Brazilian Macumbas Practices and the Pedagogy of Crossroads, emphasizing the notions of “enchantment” and crossroads. We conclude the article by proposing a perspective called “enchanted” teaching of science based on critiquing western-centricity and fostering interculturality. Abstract Introduction: Care for patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) involves a multiplicity of outpatient procedures that aim to reduce the risk of complications. Objective: The objectives of this study were to estimate the prevalence and incidences of DM complications and to analyze the supply and demand for outpatient procedures. Method: This is a retrospective, cross-sectional study using data from the National Health Survey (PNS-2013) and the SUS Outpatient Information System (SIA/SUS) to (1) calculate estimates of the prevalence and incidence of DM and its chronic complications; (2) characterize the care for DM patients; and (3) analyze the supply and demand for outpatient procedures related to DM and chronic complications according to the health regions of Amazonas (AM) and Rio Grande do Sul (RS) for the year 2012. Results: RS, compared with AM, had a higher incidence of chronic complications, a higher proportion of hospitalizations, greater use of emergencies, and less regular demand for medical follow-up. Low-complexity exams had a higher offer than expected demand and those of greater complexity had a lower volume than recommended. Conclusions: The demand for care observed for DM was higher than the supply. This is an important monitoring indicator to be used in planning the actions of primary care. Abstract: Background: Knowing the relationships between the soil's physical-chemical properties and herbicide behavior in the soil allows establishing strategies for the efficient control of weeds with less environmental risk. Objective: It carried this study to investigate the role of physical-chemical properties of Brazilian soils in the sorption-desorption and mobility of the herbicide saflufenacil. Methods: We used nine soils from different regions of Brazil in the study of sorption-desorption and mobility of 14C-saflufenacil. The herbicide sorption-desorption estimate was performed using the batch equilibrium method and mobility using soil thin-layer chromatography. Principal component analysis (PCA) and clustering were performed to evaluate the impact of soil properties on the sorption-desorption behavior of saflufenacil. Results: The results indicated that saflufenacil was weakly sorbed in different types of tropical soils, and the sorption process is reversible, with its mobility varied from mobile (Rf = 0.70) to very mobile (Rf = 0.99) in the different soils and indicates that the herbicide has leaching potential in these types of soils. The sorption-desorption capacity and mobility of saflufenacil depend mainly on pH, CEC, clay, and OC content, and therefore it is vital to analyze them to predict the impacts of herbicide application on the environment. The PCA is an essential tool that helps to clarify how the effects of soil properties influence herbicide behavior. Conclusions: The OC content in Brazilian soils has a direct role in saflufenacil sorption and desorption. BR3 soil (soil with highest organic carbon; OC = 2,1%) exhibits greater sorption (Kd = 1,85 L kg−1), value 5.5 times greater than the BR1 (soil with lower sorption; with OC = 0,6%). Therefore, the application of saflufenacil to tropical soils, especially those with low levels of CO (< 1%), may result in a greater potential risk of contamination of surface and groundwater in neighbouring agricultural and non-agricultural areas, particularly those with intensive use and ineffectiveness of saflufenacil. Future investigations could focus on integrating modeling approaches that incorporate soil variability to predict saflufenacil behavior accurately in diverse soil types, aiding in decision-making for sustainable herbicide use. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Anal cancer is a relatively rare disease, and there is a lack of survival data from low- and middle-income countries. AIMS: The aim of this study was to investigate the survival rates and prognostic factors of anal cancer cases treated at a High-Complexity Oncology Care Center in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. METHODS: A retrospective cohort study was conducted involving 665 cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the anus/anal canal treated from 2000 to 2016. To estimate the 5-year overall survival probability and survival according to selected variables, the Kaplan-Meier method and the log-rank test were applied. To identify factors associated with survival, the Cox proportional hazards model, stratified by staging, was used to estimate hazard ratios (HR). Ninety-five percent confidence intervals (95%CI) were also calculated. RESULTS: The overall survival probability was 62.20% (95%CI 57.90–66.20). Higher survival rates were observed in female cases, those with non-advanced staging, and those treated with chemoradiotherapy (p<0.001). Among cases with advanced staging, being female was a protective factor against death (HR=0.52; 95%CI 0.28–0.93). Compared to chemoradiotherapy, at least one type of treatment was identified as a risk factor: chemoradiotherapy + surgery among cases with non-advanced staging (HR=22.65; 95%CI 5.65–90.81), radiotherapy among cases with advanced staging (HR=2.71; 95%CI 1.39–5.30), and among cases with unknown staging, no treatment (HR=3.36; 95%CI 1.73–6.50), radiotherapy (HR=2.38; 95%CI 1.46–3.88), and radiotherapy + surgery (HR=3.99; 95%CI 1.20–13.27). CONCLUSIONS: The findings support the superiority of chemoradiotherapy over other therapeutic modalities for anal cancer, resulting in increased survival and a better prognosis. ABSTRACT Objective: this study aims to answer the following research question: How does IT-business strategic alignment (ITBSA) influence the sustaining or transformation of a pre-digital business? This objective was defined due to the critical importance of this topic for executives responsible for keeping such businesses adaptive and competitive in the face of the digital era’s opportunities and threats. Theoretical approach: the theoretical background of this article is formed by pre-digital and digital business models, IT-business strategic alignment, focusing on IT-enabled business support, IT-enabled business transformation, digital optimization, and digital transformation. Method: following the development of a research model and propositions, a case study was conducted using semi-structured interviews with executives from a multinational industrial company. These interviews were transcribed, coded, and analyzed using a deductive data collection and analysis protocol, supported by NVivo software. Results: the presence of organizational silos and the absence of a digital strategy were identified as key issues that have impacted the transformation of the pre-digital business studied. These challenges were mapped not only through case study analysis but also by triangulating these findings with the existing literature. Conclusion: despite the integration of an emerging digital strategy into ITBSA, traditional practices can still be helpful to mitigate the identified issues of strategic misalignment and organizational silos. For instance, executives need to maintain a balanced focus on both intellectual and social alignments to ensure that IT, business, and digital strategies collectively enable the business operations and transformation. Abstract Academic research on Artificial Intelligence (AI) remains incipient in the context of tourism studies in Brazil. The scientific literature in tourism acknowledges the widespread adoption of AI across various market applications, such as demand forecasting, big data analysis, and automation and robotics in the hotel industry. However, the application of AI specifically for scientific research in tourism is an underexplored theme, as evidenced by searches conducted on Capes Periodicals Portal, which aggregates relevant databases to tourism. The objective of this study is to comprehend the implications of employing AI in scientific research by investigating the perceptions of doctoral-level postgraduate students in tourism programs. Methodologically, it constitutes a qualitative study supported by empirical research, involving 31 structured interviews with postgraduate students conducted at academic events and remotely, guided by content analysis. The non-probabilistic snowball sampling method was employed, with data saturation as the criterion. The findings validate the benefits of stimulating creativity and imagination, as well as the efficiency gains in time and effort allocation for scientific investigations. They identify the primary tools employed in research, offer suggestions for the ethical and responsible use of AI in research, and highlight the nuanced nature of scientific research as a particularly sensitive domain for the integration of AI, where criteria and rigor are indispensable. Apprehensions within the academic community regarding the ethical and responsible use of AI are highlighted, emphasizing the incipient stage of scientific discourse and regulation in the field of tourism. Future studies are suggested to map the legal implications of AI use in research and to expand the research scope by including postgraduate students from the United States and Europe, facilitating a comparative analysis of the utilization of these tools in comparison to Brazil. ABSTRACT The use of biochar in agriculture remains controversial due to the amounts applied and the small size of the particles which can cause respiratory problems when inhaled. With the aim of evaluating the effects of cattle manure biochar (CMB) on the chemical attributes of the soil and on plant growth and nutrition, a greenhouse experiment was conducted, with Urochloa brizantha ‘BRS Paiaguás’ grown in pots over five crop cycles, in weathered soil (Oxisol). CMB pellets, both enriched and not enriched with potassium phosphate (PK), were produced using cassava starch as the binder, in a ratio of 2:2:1 (biochar: PK fertiliser: binder) and 4:1 (biochar: binder), respectively. The CMB was produced at a pyrolysis temperature of 450 °C. The experimental design was completely randomised in a 2 x 2 x 2 + 1 factorial scheme, with five replications. The treatments were non-pelletised and pelletised CMB, with and without liming, and with and without PK, and an additional treatment with no fertiliser. The CMB improved the chemical properties of the soil, correcting acidity, increasing nutrient availability and improving the production of Urochloa brizantha ‘BRS Paiaguás’. The use of CMB enriched with phosphorus and potassium behaved as a slow-release organomineral fertiliser in Urochloa brizantha ‘BRS Paiaguás’. inhaled (CMB nutrition conducted BRS Paiaguás cycles Oxisol.
