Abstract Soil and root samples of the cucumber crop were analyzed. Plant pathogenic nematodes present were extracted and identified. The juveniles of the root-knot nematode Meloidogyne incognita were the most abundant in soil, other such as Aphelenchoides sp., Pratylenchus sp., Tylenchorynchus sp., and Aphelenchus sp. were found in less presence. Females and eggs of M. incognita were obtained from the roots. Finding alternatives to chemicals fumigants, the rhizobacterias Bacillus vallismortis, Bacillus velezensis and Pseudomonas fluorescens were fermented and filtered to be evaluated on these filiform nematodes under laboratory conditions, observing their effect every 24 h. The treatments were evaluated at concentrations of 100 % and 50 %. The P. fluorescens filtrate was the treatment with the best nematicidal activity, causing a mortality of 95 % at the highest concentration and 93 % at the 50 % at 24 h, followed by the treatments of B. vallismortis and B. velezensis with 83 and 77 % respectively at concentrations of 100 % product. The three treatments showed 100 % mortality of the nematodes after 48 hours of exposure, indicating that these rhizobacteria contain metabolites with nematicidal action that could be a healthy alternative for the control of these phytopathogens.

Resumen Se analizaron muestras de suelo y raíces del cultivo del pepino. Se extrajeron e identificaron los nematodos fitopatógenos presentes. Juveniles de Meloidogyne incognita fueron los más abundantes en suelo, otros como Aphelenchoides sp., Pratylenchus sp., Tylenchorynchus sp., y Aphelenchus sp. se encontraron con menor presencia. De las raíces se obtuvieron hembras y huevos de M. incognita. Con el fin de encontrar alternativas a los productos químicos fumigantes utilizados en exceso, se evaluaron las rizobacterias Bacillus vallismortis, Bacillus velezensis y Pseudomonas fluorescens, que fueron fermentadas y filtradas para ponerse en contacto con estos nematodos bajo condiciones in vitro, observando su efecto cada 24 h. Los tratamientos se analizaron en concentraciones de 100 % y 50 %. El filtrado de P. fluorescens presentó la mejor actividad nematicida, ocasionando una mortalidad de 95 % en la concentración más alta y de 93 % en la concentración de 50 % a las 24 h, seguido por los tratamientos de B. vallismortis y B. velezensis con 83 y 77 % de respectivamente, en las concentraciones más altas. Los tres tratamientos ocasionaron un 100 % de mortalidad de los nematodos a 48 h de exposición, indicando, que contienen acción nematicida y pueden ser una alternativa viable para el control de estos fitopatógenos.

Abstract This study presents an approximate solution for assessing radiation heat exchange within a gaseous participating medium consisting of H2O and CO2 This solution is applicable for values of the product of the total pressure and the mean beam length (PL), ranging from 0.06 to 20 atm · m, and temperatures (T) ranging from 300 K to 2100 K. To approximate the exact solutions, the Spence root weighting method is employed. The exact spectral emissivity and absorptivity ελ and aλ of the gas mixture for each set of PL and T values are calculated using the analytical solution (AS). Additionally, the values of the emissivity and absorptivity of the mixture εm y am are determined using the Hottel graphical method (HGM) and the proposed approximate solution. The HGM shows a weaker correlation, with mean errors of ±15% and ±20% for 54.2% and 75.3% of the evaluated data, respectively. In contrast, the proposed method yields the best fit, with mean errors of ±10% and ±15% for 79.4% and 98.6% of the evaluated data, respectively. In all cases, the agreement between the proposed model and the available experimental data is deemed sufficiently robust to warrant consideration for practical design applications.

Resumen En este trabajo se presenta una solución aproximada para evaluar el intercambio de térmico por radiación a través de un medio participante gaseoso compuesto por H2O y CO2, la cual es válida para valores del producto de la presión total y la longitud característica del haz de radiación (PL) desde 0,06 hasta 20 atm·m y temperaturas (T) desde 300 K a 2100 K. Para la aproximación de las SA disponibles es utilizado el método de ponderación de raíces de Spence. Para cada juego de valores PL ;T es calculado el valor de emisividad y absortividad espectral exacta ελ y aλ para la mezcla de gases mediante la solución analítica (SA) y el valor de la emisividad y absortividad de la mezcla εm y am , usando el método gráfico de Hottel (MGH) y la solución aproximada propuesta. El peor ajuste de correlación se corresponde al MGH, con errores medios de ±15 % y ±20 % para el 54,2 % y 75,3 % de los datos evaluados, respectivamente, mientras que método propuesto proporciona el mejor ajuste, con errores medios de ±10 % y ±15 % para el 79,4 % y 98,6 % de los datos evaluados. En todos los casos, el acuerdo del modelo propuesto con los datos experimentales disponibles es lo suficientemente bueno como para ser considerado satisfactorio para el diseño práctico.

Abstract The objective of this study was to describe the diversity, composition, and structure of the woody vegetation in a section of LDF in Lerma, Campeche. Between August and September 2018, 10 plots of 10 × 10 m2 (1 000 m2 in total) were delimited, measuring all woody individuals with diameter at breast height (DBH = 1.30 cm). The structure of the site was described based on the relative values of density, frequency, and dominance (IVI), as well as the distribution of diameter classes. Diversity was estimated with the Shannon-Wiener index (H'), while equity was measured by the Pielou index. 40 woody species were recorded, belonging to 35 genera and 19 families. The H' index had a value of 2.92, and the Pielou index was 0.79, the density was 8 950 ind ha-1. Gymnopodium floribundum (204 individuals) and Lonchocarpus xuul (129) were the most abundant species. Bursera simaruba and Lysiloma latisiliquum showed higher diameter values (36 and 28.6 cm DBH, respectively). The families Rubiaceae (eight species), Fabaceae (five species), Ebenaceae and Polygonaceae (three species each) were the most representative. The species with the highest IVI were Gymnopodium floribundum (48.24%), Lonchocarpus xuul (29.12%), Bursera simaruba (26.11%) and Lysiloma latisiliquum (24.98%), these species being the most important in the structure of the LDF in the site. The distribution of the diameter classes suggests that the section of the LDF in Lerma Campeche is in an adequate state of regeneration.

Resumen El objetivo de este estudio fue describir la diversidad, composición y estructura de la vegetación leñosa en una sección de la selva baja caducifolia (SBC) en Lerma, Campeche. Entre agosto y septiembre 2018, se delimitaron 10 parcelas de 10 × 10 m2 (1 000 m2 en total) midiendo todos los individuos de 1 cm de DAP (diámetro a la altura del pecho, 1.30 m). Se describió la estructura del sitio basado en los valores relativos de densidad, frecuencia y dominancia (IVI), así como la distribución de clases diamétricas. La diversidad se estimó con el índice de Shannon-Wiener (H’), mientras que la equidad fue medida por el índice de Pielou. Se registraron 40 especies leñosas, pertenecientes a 35 géneros y 19 familias. El índice H’ tuvo un valor de 2.92, y el índice de Pielou fue de 0.79, la densidad fue de 8 950 ind ha-1. Gymnopodium floribundum (204 individuos) y Lonchocarpus xuul (129 individuos) fueron las especies más abundantes. Bursera simaruba y Lysiloma latisiliquum mostraron valores diamétricos más altos (36 y 28.6 cm de DAP, respectivamente). Estudo realizado com dados de inquérito de saúde, em amostra de 1.640 indivíduos de 20 anos ou mais residentes no município de Campinas-SP. A ingestão de cálcio foi obtida por meio de um recordatório de 24 horas (R24h) e analisada segundo variáveis sociodemográficas, de comportamentos de saúde, frequência de refeições e índice de massa corporal (IMC); a presença de associações foi verificada por meio de testes de regressão linear múltipla. O perfil de fatores associados à ingestão de cálcio diferiu entre os sexos. A prática de atividade física no contexto de lazer só se associou ao consumo de cálcio no sexo masculino, enquanto cor da pele, tabagismo, renda, excesso de peso e frequência do café da manhã mostraram associação apenas no sexo feminino. Escolaridade e realização de lanches intermediários mostraram-se associadas à ingestão de cálcio em ambos os sexos. Abstract The scope of this article is to verify if there are differences in factors associated with calcium intake between men and women. It is based on a study conducted with data from a health survey in a sample of 1641 individuals aged 20 years or more living in the urban area of the city of Campinas, in the State of São Paulo. Calcium intake was obtained from a 24-hour recall (24hr recall method) and analyzed according to sociodemographic variables, health behavior, frequency of meals and body mass index (BMI). The existence of associations was verified by multiple linear regression tests, and it was detected that the profile of associated factors differed between genders. Physical exercise in the leisure context was only associated with calcium intake in males, while skin color, smoking, income, overweight/obesity, and frequency of having breakfast only revealed an association in females. Schooling and having snacks were associated with calcium intake in both sexes. The analysis of the associated factors indicates segments of the female and male population in which the importance of calcium intake needs to be more closely examined. Resumen Objetivo: ChatGPT (transformador preentrenado generativo de Chatbot) es un sistema generativo preentrenado basado en la arquitectura GPT-3.5, que fue presentado en noviembre de 2022. Este simula una conversación habitual al responder preguntas y tiene gran lugar en la redacción científica. Nuestro objetivo es identificar y analizar la tendencia de las publicaciones sobre ChatGPT en el ámbito de la medicina a nivel mundial desde su lanzamiento. Método: Se incluyeron artículos desde su origen (2022) hasta abril de 2023 mediante las bases de datos Medline y Embase. Evaluamos el factor de impacto (FI) 2021, el Journal Citation Reports (JCR) por medio de Clarivate Analytics y el índice H por medio de SCImago. Realizamos un análisis por mapeo mediante VOSViewer y se graficaron los datos. Resultados: Se obtuvieron 533 artículos de los cuales al ser depurados fueron elegidos 309. La revista Cureus y medRxiv encabezan el top diez con la mayor cantidad de publicaciones. Tan solo tres revistas de urología tienen sus publicaciones relacionadas con el tema. EE.UU., Inglaterra y Países Bajos son líder y el tipo de publicación más frecuente fueron los artículos originales (22,7%). Conclusiones: ChatGPT es el inicio de una nueva era que nos facilitará algunos procesos en el área de la salud. La literatura médica se encuentra investigando en busca de sus utilidades y desventajas. Es necesario conocer los alcances y limitaciones de este tipo de chatbot para aplicarlo en el panorama médico sin que sobrepase los márgenes de la ética.

Abstract Objective: ChatGPT is an AI (artificial intelligence) pre-trained based in GPT-3.5 architecture, which was launched in November 2022. This AI simulates an every-day chat, responding to different sorts of topics and its widely used in scientific production. Our objective is to identify and analyze the publication trends about ChatGPT and its uses in medicine around the world. Method: Published article since ChatGPT launch (2022) until April 2023 were included. Medline and Embase data bases were used to run the search. We evaluated the impact factor (IF) 2021, the Journal Citation Reports (JCR) using Clarivate Analytics and H index using SCImago. We also used map analysis through VOSViewer and graphed the data. Results: The search gathered 533 articles which were reduced and picked 309 of them. Cureus journal and medRxiv lead the most publications top ten. Only three of the urology-related journals have publications regarding ChatGPT. USA, England and Netherlands are the countries with most scientific productions and the most frequent type of article were original articles (22.7%). Conclusion: ChatGPT may be the beginning of a new worldwide era which will ease-up several processes in healthcare. Different medical sciences are investigating around this tool looking for opportunities and disadvantages. It is fundamental to know the uses and limitations with this type of chatbot for applying it in healthcare without trespassing ethical boundaries.

ABSTRACT Colombian economy depends largely on income from the fuel sector. A fundamental process in the clean-fuels chain corresponds to the steam methane reforming (SMR), which generates the hydrogen needed for production of low-sulphur fuels. The identification of opportunities to increase hydrogen production involves the analysis of variables that affects heat supply in the SMR furnace (preheating and reaction section). This document presents the main results of an analysis of heat supply in an industrial SMR furnace based on both, data analysis and simulation with Aspen HYSYS. To such end, eight-year-process-operation data were collected and analysed with kmeans multivariate algorithm. The simulation was validated with pertinent design data and compared to process data. Next, the simulation was applied to explore the operating surface of the furnace to identify conditions with major hydrogen production. According to the results, the statistical analysis by kmeans divided the data into two operational modes that were representative for the furnace; one of them showed the major H2 production. Similarly, the simulation results suggested that the increase in H2 generation was stabilized with the highest values of both heat and natural gas, tending towards a steady state value.

RESUMEN La economía colombiana depende en gran medida de los ingresos del sector combustibles. Uno de los procesos fundamentales en la cadena de los combustibles limpios corresponde al reformado de metano con vapor (SMR), que genera H2 necesario en la producción de combustibles bajos en azufre. La identificación de oportunidades para incrementar H2 implica el análisis de variables que afectan el suministro de calor en el horno SMR (precalentamiento-reacción), Este documento presenta los resultados de un análisis del suministro de calor en un horno industrial SMR mediante análisis de datos y simulación con Aspen HYSYS. Para esto, los históricos de ocho años de operación fueron analizados con el algoritmo kmeans, La simulación fue validada con datos de diseño, comparada con los históricos y aplicada para explorar la superficie operativa del horno, Según los resultados, el análisis por kmeans dividió los datos en dos modos de operación, que fueron representativos para el horno; un modo mostró la mayor producción de H2. Asimismo, los resultados de la simulación sugirieron que el incremento en la generación de H2 fue estabilizada en valores elevados tanto en flujo de calor como flujo de gas natural, tendiendo hacia un valor de estado estacionario

RESUMEN Objetivo: Determinar el perfil de los investigadores en ciencias médicas y de la salud de la categoría Monge Medrano, calificados por el Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica (CONCYTEC) y registrados en el Registro Nacional Científico, Tecnológico y de Innovación Tecnológica (RENACYT) en el año 2022. Materiales y métodos: Estudio de enfoque cuantitativo, tipo descriptivo y de corte transversal. Se revisaron las Hojas de vida afines a la Ciencia y Tecnología (CTI Vitae) de 706 investigadores registrados en Renacyt durante el mes de setiembre del 2022. Se recopilaron las características demográficas, de formación académica, de actividad profesional y de producción científica mediante una ficha de recolección de datos y, a partir de esto, se elaboró una base de datos. Resultados: El 65,3 % de investigadores fueron de sexo masculino, un 80,0 % procedía de Perú y un 66, 7 % dominaba dos o tres idiomas; los más frecuentes eran español, inglés, portugués, francés, italiano, alemán y quechua. A nivel académico, el máximo grado académico obtenido fue el de doctor (71,2 %), la primera carrera profesional no siempre fue una carrera estrictamente de la salud, el 80,3 % reportó estudios de maestría y el 71,2 %, estudios de doctorado; además, el 75,5 % indicó una universidad como institución de primera filiación. A nivel profesional, el 38,2 % registró más de 20 años de experiencia laboral, el 84 % como docente y el 51,7 % tenían experiencia como evaluador o formulador de proyectos de investigación; el 74,8 % reportó haber recibido un premio o distinción en su carrera, asimismo, 133 investigadores contaban con un índice h entre 4 y 6. ABSTRACT Objective: To determine the profile of medical and health sciences researchers belonging to the Carlos Monge Medrano group, qualified by Consejo Nacional de Ciencia, Tecnología e Innovación Tecnológica (CONCYTEC National Council of Science, Technology and Technological Innovation) and registered in Registro Nacional Científico, Tecnológico y de Innovación Tecnológica (RENACYT National Scientific, Technological and Technological Innovation Registry) in 2022. Materials and methods: A quantitative, descriptive and cross-sectional study. The CTI Vitae Hojas de vida afines a la Ciencia y Tecnología (CTI Vitae Résumés related to Science and Technology) data sheets of 706 researchers registered in Renacyt were reviewed during September 2022. Demographic characteristics, academic background, career and scientific output were collected in a data collection sheet, which was used to create a database. Results: Out of all researchers, 65.3 % were males, 80.0 % came from Peru, and 66.7 % were fluent in two or three languages, the most frequent being Spanish, English, Portuguese, French, Italian, German and Quechua. As for their academic background, the highest degree was a doctorate (71.2 %), the first reported program was not always strictly a health sciences program, 80.3 % pursued master’s studies and 71.2 % pursued doctoral studies. In addition, 75.5 % indicated a university as their primary affiliation. Regarding their career, 38.2 % had more than 20 years of work experience, 84 % served as educator, 51.7 % had experience as research project evaluator or developer and 74.8 % received an award or distinction during their career. Moreover, 133 researchers had an h-index between 4 and 6. Furthermore, 94.5 % (667 researchers) drafted scientific papers, out of whom 41.4 % were the lead author in one to five articles and 65.9 % served as undergraduate and graduate thesis advisor. Conclusions: Medical and health sciences researchers are mostly males, are fluent in at least two languages including English, have a doctorate degree and have scientific output. Abstract MCH1 is a synthetic macamide that has shown in vitro inhibitory activity on fatty acid amide hydrolase (FAAH), an enzyme responsible for endocannabinoid metabolism. This inhibition can modulate endocannabinoid and dopamine signaling in the nucleus accumbens (NAc), potentially having an antidepressant-like effect. The present study aimed to evaluate the effect of the in vivo administration of MCH1 (3, 10, and 30 mg/kg, ip) in 2-month-old BALB/c male mice (n=97) on forced swimming test (FST), light-dark box (LDB), and open field test (OFT) and on early gene expression changes 2 h after drug injection related to the endocannabinoid system (Cnr1 and Faah) and dopaminergic signaling (Drd1 and Drd2) in the NAc core. We found that the 10 mg/kg MCH1 dose reduced the immobility time compared to the vehicle group in the FST with no effect on anxiety-like behaviors measured in the LDB or OFT. However, a 10 mg/kg MCH1 dose increased locomotor activity in the OFT compared to the vehicle. Moreover, RT-qPCR results showed that the 30 mg/kg MCH1 dose increased Faah gene expression by 2.8-fold, and 10 mg/kg MCH1 increased the Cnr1 gene expression by 4.3-fold compared to the vehicle. No changes were observed in the expression of the Drd1 and Drd2 genes in the NAc at either MCH1 dose. These results indicated that MCH1 might have an antidepressant-like effect without an anxiogenic effect and induces significant changes in endocannabinoid-related genes but not in genes of the dopaminergic signaling system in the NAc of mice. RESUMO: Técnicas colorimétricas, como sais de tetrazólio e resazurina, são indicadores de viabilidade (atividade respiratória) de fungos, bactérias e sementes, amplamente utilizados em diferentes áreas de pesquisa. O objetivo deste estudo foi desenvolver um protocolo com dois métodos, qualitativo e quantitativo, de triagem para detecção da viabilidade de Fusarium semitectum em sementes de soja, utilizando 2,3,5-trifenil cloreto de tetrazólio (TZ). O delineamento experimental utilizado foi inteiramente casualizado (DIC) em arranjo fatorial triplo (tempos de incubação, concentrações de TZ e diluições seriadas de inóculo) com níveis de 3, 5 e 5 de cada fator, respectivamente, com 3 repetições em ambos os métodos. Para o método qualitativo, a sensibilidade foi mais satisfatória no tempo de 72h, na concentração mínima de TZ de 0,1 mg mL-1 e com a concentração de inóculo 10⁻¹. No método quantitativo (espectrofotometria) não foi possível quantificar as Unidades Formadoras de Colônias (UFC) em placas, sendo a Densidade Óptica (DO) interferida pela estrutura do micélio no microtubo, embora seja uma metodologia reprodutível está condicionada pela morfologia do fungo. O presente estudo permitiu fácil visualização das estruturas de F. semitectum em sementes de soja, a partir do TZ, porém não foi possível quantificar a densidade de inóculo devido a baixa produção de esporos precisando de maiores ajustes na metodologia. ABSTRACT: Colorimetric techniques, such as tetrazolium salts and resazurin, are indicators of viability (respiratory activity) of fungi, bacteria, and seeds widely used in different areas of research. The objective of this study was to develop a protocol with two screening methods, qualitative and quantitative, to detect the viability of Fusarium semitectum in soybean seeds using 2,3,5-triphenyl tetrazolium chloride (TZ). The experimental design was completely randomized in a triple factorial arrangement (incubation times, TZ concentrations, and inoculum serial dilutions) with levels of 3, 5, and 5 of each factor, respectively, and 3 replications in both methods. For the qualitative method, sensitivity was more satisfactory at 72 hours, at the minimum TZ concentration of 0.1 mg mL-1, and with the inoculum concentration of 10-¹. In the quantitative method (spectrophotometry), it was not possible to quantify the colony forming units (CFU) on plates, with the Optical Density (OD) being interfered with by structure of the mecelium in the microtube. Although it is a reproducible methodology, it is conditioned by fungal morphology. The present study allowed easy visualization of the structures of F. semitectum in soybean seeds, based on the TZ. However, it was not possible to quantify the inoculum density, due to low spore production, requiring greater adjustments in the methodology. ABSTRACT Objective: To estimate the heritability (h2) of age at first parturition (AFP), longevity (L), useful life (UL), and productivity (P), as well as the genetic (rg) and phenotypic correlations between those traits in Brown Swiss and Holstein cows in Northwestern Honduras. Materials and methods: Cattle were raised under tropical conditions and intensive management. The model for AFP assessed the effect of contemporary group (herd, year and birth season combination) as fixed. The model used for L, UL and P included the contemporary group, age group at first calving and their interaction. Data were analyzed using restricted maximum likelihood procedure, adjusted to a univariate and to a bivariate animal model. Results: The h2 estimated for AFP, L, UL and P were 0.16, 0.18, 0.25 and 0.09, respectively, in Brown Swiss cows, and 0.53, 0.49, 0.7 and 0.22, respectively in Holstein. Negative but favorable rg among Brown Swiss cow traits ranged from 0.31 to 0.46 between AFP and the other traits. However, for Holsteins cows, positive rg among AFP and the other traits here studied varied from 0.49 to 0.96. In both cattle breeds, rg among L, UL and P, traits were positive. Conclusions: For all traits evaluated low to medium heritability's for BS suggest that a slow genetic improvement could be achieved if independent selection of traits is applied, and better response could be expected for H breed. For both breeds the positive rg among L, UL and P suggest thar similar selection criteria could be used.

RESUMEN Objetivo: Estimar heredabilidades (h2) de edad al primer parto (AFP), longevidad (L), vida útil (UL) y productividad (P), y las correlaciones fenotípicas y genéticas (rg) entre esos caracteres en vacas Suizo Pardo (SP) y Holstein en el Noroeste de Honduras. Materiales y métodos: El ganado fue criado en condiciones tropicales y manejado intensivamente. El modelo para AFP incluyó el grupo contemporáneo (GC, combinación de hato, año y época de nacimiento) como fijo. Para L, UL y P, el modelo incluyó al GC, grupo de edad al primer parto y su interacción. Los datos se analizaron utilizando el procedimiento de máxima verosimilitud restringida (REML), ajustado a un modelo animal univariado y bivariado. Resultados: Las h2 estimadas para AFP, L, UL y P fueron 0.16, 0.18, 0.25 y 0.09, en vacas SP; y 0.53, 0.49, 0.7 y 0.22 en H, respectivamente. Las rg fueron negativas pero favorables para las vacas SP en un rango de 0.31 a 0.46 entre AFP y los otros rasgos. Sin embargo, para las vacas H, se encontró una rg positiva entre AFP y las demás características que osciló entre 0.49 y 0.96. En ambas razas, las rg entre L, UL y P fueron positivas. Conclusiones: Para los rasgos evaluados, la h2 baja a media para BS sugiere que la mejora genética sería lenta si se aplicará selección independiente esperándose una mejor respuesta para la raza H. Para ambas razas las rg positivas sugieren que se podrían utilizar criterios de selección similares para L, UL y P.

ABSTRACT Introduction: Complications associated with the placement procedure of a septal occlusion device occur in less than 10% of cases. Embolization requires cardiac surgery, which increases the risk of mortality. Objective: To report the case of a patient with ventricular septal defect and severe pulmonary hypertension who had the transcatheter septal occlusion device removed. Case report: We report the case report of a 24-year-old woman with ventricular septal defect, heart failure (New York Heart Association) class IV and type 2 pulmonary hypertension. She was scheduled for placement of a septal occlusion device, however, the placement of the device failed and had a residual defect of 7 mm, so the placement was removed 48 hours later without complications. Conclusions: Although transcatheter closure of the ventricular septal defect is a safe and effective alternative to surgery, it is not free of complications. In case of translocation of the septal occlusion device, it must be removed during the same procedure, since the risk of embolization is high and if it occurs, the risk of death increases.

RESUMEN Introducción: Las complicaciones asociadas al procedimiento de colocación de un dispositivo de oclusión septal se presentan en menos del 10 % de los casos. La embolización requiere de cirugía cardíaca, por lo que se incrementa el riesgo de la mortalidad. Objetivo: Presentar el caso en una paciente con comunicación interventricular e hipertensión pulmonar severa que se le retiró el dispositivo de oclusión septal transcateterismo. Presentación de caso: Se presentó una mujer de 24 años de edad con comunicación interventricular, insuficiencia cardíaca (New York Heart Association) clase IV e hipertensión pulmonar tipo 2, que se programó para la colocación de dispositivo de oclusión septal, sin embargo, presentó fallo en la colocación del dispositivo y defecto residual de 7 mm, por lo que se realizó el retiro de este 48 h después sin presentar complicaciones. Conclusiones: Aunque el cierre transcateterismo de la comunicación interventricular es una alternativa segura y efectiva a la cirugía, no está exento de complicaciones. En caso de translocación del dispositivo de oclusión septal este debe ser retirado durante el mismo procedimiento, ya que el riesgo de embolización es elevado y en caso de presentarse, el riesgo de muerte se incrementa.

Resumen (Introducción): Durante años, las aguas residuales de curtiembres han sido vertidas a diversas fuentes de aguas sin control alguno o con tecnologías poco eficientes, lo que genera un impacto en la calidad del agua. (Objetivo): El objetivo del estudio fue evaluar la viabilidad técnico-económica del uso del biopolímero pectina y quitosano para el tratamiento de aguas residuales de curtiembres. (Metodología): Se efectuó la extracción de pectina a partir de la cocona y el quitosano a partir de camarón. Se realizó una prueba de jarras donde se combinó el agua residual y los biopolímeros, la velocidad de agitación fue de 120 rpm y el tiempo de contacto de 1, 2 y 3 h. Se realizaron análisis de pH, demanda química de oxígeno (DQO), demanda bioquímica de oxígeno (DBO), sólidos suspendidos totales (SST) y Cr+6 de las muestras obtenidas. Para la comparación con Valores Máximos Admisibles (VMA), se utilizaron las muestras que mostraron mayor remoción de SST y Cr+6. Para el análisis estadístico de los diferentes tiempos y concentraciones se realizó una prueba ANOVA y de comparación múltiple, para el cotejo de eficiencias entre pectina y quitosano se realizó 1 prueba T de student. (Resultados): En la cantidad de 1 g tanto de quitosano como de pectina se registró una remoción del Cr+6 de 98.33 % y 98.30 % respectivamente, ambos con un tiempo de 1 h. En los sólidos suspendidos totales hubo una reducción del 98 % con 1 h de mezcla para la pectina y 96 % con 3 h de mezcla usando el quitosano. La eficiencia de remoción entre quitosano y pectina no mostraron una diferencia significativa. En la parte económica existe un ahorro de 846.85 USD, mientras que para el quitosano se tendría un ahorro de 807.61 USD. La concentración de parámetros de sólido sedimentable y aceites y grasas se encontró dentro de los VMA. Sin embargo, para sulfuros, DBO y DQO no se cumplió. (Conclusiones): Con el uso de biopolímeros se logró una considerable disminución del Cr+6 y de los SST, además de que ambos resultaron ser muy eficientes. También es una tecnología más rentable económicamente, en comparación con la tecnología empleada por la curtiembre estudiada. Sin embargo, para poder alcanzar los requerimientos de los VMA se deben utilizar algunas tecnologías adicionales.

Abstract (Introduction): For years, wastewater from tanneries has been discharged into various water sources without any control or with inefficient technologies, generating an impact on water quality. (Objective): To evaluate the technical-economic feasibility of the use of the biopolymer pectin and chitosan for the treatment of tannery wastewater. (Methods): Extraction of pectin from cocona and chitosan from shrimp was performed. A jar test was performed where the wastewater and biopolymers were combined, the agitation speed was 120 rpm and the contact time was 1, 2 and 3 h. Analyses of pH, chemical oxygen demand (COD), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), total suspended solids (TSS) and Cr+6 were performed on the samples obtained. For comparison with Maximum Allowable Values (MAV), the samples that showed the highest TSS and Cr+6 removal were used. For the statistical analysis of the different times and concentrations an ANOVA and multiple comparison test was performed, for the comparison of efficiencies between pectin and chitosan a Student's t-test was performed. (Results): In the amount of 1 g of both chitosan and pectin there was a removal of Cr+6 of 98.33 % and 98.30 % respectively, both with a time of 1 h. In total suspended solids there was a reduction of 98 % with 1 h of mixing for pectin and 96 % with 3 h of mixing using chitosan. The removal efficiency between chitosan and pectin did not show a significant difference. In the economic part there is a saving of 846.85 USD while for chitosan there would be a saving of 807.61 USD. The concentration of settleable solids and oils and fats parameters were found to be within the MAV. However, for sulfides, BOD and COD were not met. (Conclusions): With the use of biopolymers, a considerable decrease in Cr+6 and TSS was achieved, in addition to the fact that both proved to be very efficient. It is also a more economically profitable technology compared to the technology used by the tannery studied. However, in order to meet the requirements of the MAV, some additional technologies must be used.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The identification of the wide tropism of SARS-CoV-2 can be critical for viral pathogenesis, and it is therefore relevant to determine the infection mechanisms and identify new therapeutic targets. This study consists of two experimental blocks: a) isolation and characterization of the SARS-CoV-2 virus, and b) pathogenesis, tropism, and targets, both molecular and therapeutic. Methods: The procedures used were the following: a) clinical samples were obtained from the nasopharyngeal cavity of COVID-19 positive patients, which were inoculated in Vero E6 cells and analyzed by Scanning Electron Microscopy 72 h after infection. b) They were obtained visceral organ samples (lung, liver, kidney and brain) from patients dyed from COVID-19. Cryocuts were prepared and evaluated by Masson's Trichrome Staining, Electron Microscopy and Confocal Microscopy. Results: Results show a) Extensive damage in infected Vero E6 cells where virus particles and extracellular virions are observed, displaying a cytopathic effect; b) They were identified Physio pathological processes using Masson's Trichrome Staining, detecting a predominance of the most advanced stages of Diffuse Alveolar Damage. Using Electron Microscopy, we found a profuse loss of alveolar epithelial cells in the lung. Confocal Microscopy was able to detect the presence of the SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid co-localized with key molecules such as Fibronectin, Vimentin, and PPARγ, together with NLRP3 Inflammasome in the brain cortical tissues. Conclusions. The isolation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus was performed for the first time in Cuba in nasopharyngeal exudates of patients with COVID-19 in the Vero E6 cell line. We identified for the first time novel cellular and pathophysiological processes involved in the infection of SARS-CoV-2, as well as potential therapeutic targets that reveal promising drugs to combat COVID-19 and its sequelae.

RESUMEN Introducción: La identificación del amplio tropismo del SARS-CoV-2 puede ser crítico para la patogénesis viral, por lo que es relevante conocer los mecanismos de infección e identificar nuevas dianas terapéuticas. Esta investigación consta de 2 bloques experimentales: aislamiento y caracterización del virus SARS-CoV-2 y patogénesis, tropismo, dianas moleculares y terapéuticas. Métodos: Se realizaron los siguientes procederes a) de la cavidad nasofaríngea de pacientes positivos al COVID-19, se obtuvo muestras clínicas que se inocularon en las células Vero E6 y se analizaron mediante microscopía electrónica de barrido a las 72 h postinfección; b) se obtuvo muestras de órganos viscerales de fallecidos por COVID-19: pulmón, hígado, riñón y cerebro. Los criocortes o cortes ultra finos se evaluaron mediante la tinción de tricrómica de masson, microscopía electrónica y la microscopia confocal. Resultados: Se obtuvo los siguientes resultados principales: a) se identificó un extenso daño en las células Vero E6 infectadas en las cuales se pudieron observar partículas de virus y viriones extracelulares, evidenciando un efecto citopático; b) se identificaron procesos fisiopatológicos: por tinción de tricrómica de Masson, se identificó un predominio de las etapas más avanzadas del daño alveolar difuso, al microscopio electrónico en pulmón, se evidenció la pérdida abundante de las células epiteliales alveolares. A través de microscopia confocal, se detectó la presencia de la nucleocápside del SARS-CoV-2 colocalizada con las moléculas claves tales como: fibronectina, vimentina, PPARγ conjuntamente con el inflamasoma NLRP3 en tejidos corticales cerebrales. Como conclusiones, en esta investigación: a) se realizó por primera vez el aislamiento del virus SARS-CoV-2 en Cuba en exudados nasofaríngeos de pacientes con COVID-19 en la línea celular Vero E6. b) Se identificó por primera vez; novedosos procesos celulares y fisiopatológicos involucrados en la infección del virus SARS-CoV-2 y potenciales dianas terapéuticas que revelan fármacos prometedores para combatir la COVID-19 y sus secuelas.

Resumen Introducción: la nutrición parenteral es una mezcla de macro y micronutrientes necesarios para el prematuro que no puede alimentarse por vía enteral. La mezcla binaria contiene en una bolsa carbohidratos, proteínas y micronutrientes y en otra los lípidos intravenosos, que son más susceptibles de contaminación microbiana especialmente por Candida albicans, por lo que asociaciones profesionales recomiendan el uso en línea “y” de un solo filtro, lo que no es práctica habitual hospitalaria. Objetivo: determinar la presencia de Candida albicans en dispositivos que contienen lípidos intravenosos usados en neonatos y relacionarla con el uso correcto del filtro de 1.2 µm. Método: se evaluaron tres grupos de muestras constituidas por los restos de una solución de lípidos (ML) administrados al paciente prematuro durante 24 h. sembradas en agar Sabouraud organizadas en: (ML1): solución de lípidos obtenida directamente de la bolsa de etinil vinil acetato (EVA). (ML2): solución de lípidos filtrados con dispositivo de 1.2 µm. conectado directamente al catéter (práctica observada). (ML3): solución de lípidos contaminados con Candida que fueron sembrados en agar Sabouraud y posteriormente filtrados. Resultados: el 100 % de las muestras filtradas (ML2) y (ML3) como se esperaba, no presentaron Candida albicans, el 100 % de las muestras (ML1) que no fueron filtradas, tampoco presentaron Candida albicans. Conclusiones: no hubo presencia de Candida albicans en las soluciones lipídicas utilizadas directamente con filtro 1.2 µm, sin embargo, se recomienda el uso de un solo filtro 1.2 µm en línea “Y” según las normas internacionales para el ahorro del Sistema sanitario.

Abstract Introduction: parenteral nutrition is a mixture of macro and micronutrients necessary for the premature infant who cannot be fed enterally. The binary mixture contains carbohydrates, amino acids and micronutrients in one bag and intravenous lipids in another. The latter are more susceptible to microbial contamination, especially by Candida albicans. For this reason, many professional associations typically recommend the use of a single filter in line “Y”; however, this has not yet become standard hospital practice. Aim: to determine the presence of Candida albicans in devices that contain intravenous lipids used in neonates and relate it to the correct use of the 1.2 µm filter. Method: three groups of samples consisting of the remains of a lipid solution (ML) administered to the premature patient for 24 h seeded on Sabouraud agar organized as follows: (ML1), lipid solution obtained directly from the ethinyl vinyl acetate bag were evaluated. (ML2): filtered lipid solution with a 1.2 µm device connected directly to the catheter. (ML3): solution of lipids intentionally contaminated with Candida and subsequently filtered. Results: Candida albicans was not detected in any of the filtered simples (ML2 and ML3) and also not detected in any of the unfiltered simples (ML1). Conclusions: there was no presence of Candida albicans in the lipid solutions used directly with a 1.2 µm filter, however, the use of a single 1.2 µm filter in line “Y” is recommended according to international standards to save the health system.
