ABSTRACT The COVID-19 pandemic generated a large volume of scientific productions with different quality levels. The speed with which knowledge was produced and shared worldwide imposed on health management the challenge of seeking ways to identify the best available evidence to support its decisions. In response to this challenge, the Department of Science and Technology of the Brazilian Ministry of Health started offering a service to produce and provide scientific knowledge addressing priority public health issues in the pandemic scenario. Drug treatments, non-pharmacological measures, testing, reinfection and immunological response, immunization, pathophysiology, post-COVID syndrome and adverse events are among the topics covered. In this article, we discuss the strengths and lessons learned, as well as the challenges and perspectives that present a real example of how to offer the best scientific evidence in a timely manner in order to assist the decision-making process during a public health emergency.

ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the economic viability of the implementation of a mechanized harvesting of broilers where the activity is carried out entirely manually. The viability indicators used were net present value (NPV), net future value (NFV), net uniform value (NUV), discounted payback (DP), and internal rate of return (IRR). Scenario analysis, sensitivity, and Monte Carlo simulation were performed in the present study. The results showed that the initial investment was US$ 1,868,302.76. The average price paid by the slaughterhouse to third-party manual harvesting companies was US$ 18.17 per thousand broilers, which was converted into revenue in the cash flow of the project. The cash flow result was positive at US$ 22,256.14 over the entire study period considering a daily catch of 144 thousand broilers. The results of the economic viability analysis were NPV of US$ 64,786.23, NFV of US$ 333,382.11, NUV of US$ 735.19, DP of 13.82 years, IRR of 0.965 monthly, and modified IRR of 0.933 monthly. These values prove the economic viability of implementing the project considering the market conditions at the time of the study. The analysis of scenarios showed great sensitivity to the exchange rate and the price of fuels. The Monte Carlo simulation highlighted a moderate risk of negative NPV, emphasizing the importance of considering this variable when making decisions. Despite these challenges, the potential benefits of mechanized harvesting, such as increased efficiency and reduced labor costs, make it a promising alternative to manual harvesting, even for small to medium-sized poultry industries. manually , (NPV) NFV, (NFV) NUV, (NUV) DP, (DP) IRR. . ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. The study assessed the Global Quality Score (GQS) and informational engagement of users with YouTube videos on the Brazilian public health system (SUS). The YouTube video search tool was used with the Portuguese keywords ‘unified health system’ and ‘SUS’. The first 100 videos returned in the search were studied, using the GQS to measure their educational value, usefulness, and information quality. Users’ engagement with the videos was calculated based on their number of likes/reactions and comments. Other data collected were authorship, year of publication, topic approached, target audience, video length, and use of references. Two trained and calibrated researchers collected the data. Multiple analysis was performed with Logistic Regression, using a 95% confidence interval and significance of p<0.05. There were no poor or generally poor GQS scores (scores 1 and 2) and most videos (58%) achieved moderate or good scores (scores 3 and 4). Videos published after the onset of COVID-19 had a 70% lower chance of engagement than those published in pre-pandemic years (OR: 0.30; 95%CI: 0.12–0.74). Videos that targeted healthcare professionals were 72% less likely to achieve higher GQS scores, than those with an unidentified target audience (OR: 0.28; 95%CI: 0.10–0.75). The informational engagement of the videos showed fewer comments than likes/reactions. Most YouTube videos about the SUS had moderate or good global quality, which was associated with their period of publication and choice of target audience. (GQS SUS. .
ABSTRACT This research aimed to compare the functional autonomy between physically inactive and physically active elderly women. In this study, the sample was divided into one group of inactive elderly women (GI; n= 28, age 67,64± 7,73) and one group of physically active elderly women (GPA; n= 28, age 68,64± 8,40). The functional autonomy was evaluated through the tests of Latin-American Development Group for the Elderly (GDLAM), based on: walking 10 meters (W10m), getting up from a sitting position (SUSP), standing up from a lying position (SULP), stand up from a chair and walk straightaway (SUCWA), dress and undress T-shirt (DUT) and GDLAM Index (GI). In the correlation of the groups, it can be observed that GPA showed better values on tests than GS and the significative difference (p< 0,05) into groups on tests (W10m, SUSP, SULP, SUCWA and GI). It can be inferred that GPA showed a better level of functional autonomy than GI, confirming scientific recommendations about the benefic effects of physical activity on functional capacity.

Abstract This work aims to evaluate, at different stages, the productive performance, carcass quality, and intestinal biometry of European quails (Coturnix coturnix Coturnix), consuming diets with increasing levels of seaweed bran (Sargassum sp). A total of 240 European quail chicks (Coturnix coturnix Coturnix) were distributed in a completely randomized design, with four levels of bran inclusion (0.0, 2.5, 5.0, and 7.5%), 6 replications with 10 birds in each experimental plot. In the period from 1 to 21 days, the feed intake of the control group was higher, with lower water consumption. In the period from 22 to 42 days, feed and water consumption increased with the inclusion of seaweed, but with a reduction in weight gain. In the total period, water consumption was higher at the level of 2.5 and 7.5%, with lower consumption in the control group, with a small reduction in slaughter and carcass weight with the inclusion of bran. There was no difference (P > 0.05) in carcass quality and intestinal biometry. We recommended the inclusion of up to 7.5% of sargassum meal in the diet of European quails at all stages, without compromising its productive performance, carcass quality, and intestinal biometry. evaluate stages performance Coturnix Coturnix, , Sargassum sp. sp . sp) 24 design 0.0, 00 0 (0.0 25 2 5 50 5.0 75 7 7.5%) plot days 4 gain 2. Objective: To estimate the prevalence of exposure to violence, characterizing its magnitude, types and occurrence in the adult population in Brazil. Methods: Cross-sectional study with data from the National Health Survey conducted in 2019. The prevalence of violence in the last 12 months and respective 95% confidence intervals (95%CI) were estimated according to sociodemographic variables. Crude prevalence ratios (cPR) were estimated by Poisson regression. Results: The prevalence of exposure to violence among adults in Brazil was 18.3% (95%CI 17.8;18.8) , with a significantly higher frequency among women (19.4%; 95%CI 18.7;20.0), in the 18-29 age group (27.0%; 95%CI 25.7;28.4), in self-declared black people (20.6%; 95%CI 19.3;221.9) and mixed race (19.3%; 95%CI 18.6;20.1) and among inhabitants of the Northeast region (18.7%; 95%CI 18.0;19.5). Among the victims of violence, 15.6% (95%CI 14.2;17.0) sought health care, of which (91.2%; 95%CI 88.1;93.6) were attended. The most reported types of violence were: psychological (17.4%; 95%CI 16.9;17.9), physical (4.1%; 95%CI 3.9;4.4) and sexual (0.8%; 95%CI 0.7;0.9). Men were more exposed to violence with the use of firearms or sharp targets, while women were the predominant victims for all other types and mechanisms of violence. The aggressor most cited was the intimate partner, the most frequent place of occurrence of violence being the residence and public streets/places. Conclusion: In Brazil, violence affected one in five adults. Women, young people and people with black skin were the population segments most exposed to violence, which should be a priority in prevention actions.

ABSTRACT One hundred twenty-two Chrysomus ruficapillus were examined in southern Brazil, in order to research the presence of nasal mites and the parasite-host relationships. Nasal mite infections were analyzed for: presence of Ereynetidae and Rhinonyssidae considering the total number of hosts examined; Sexual maturity of males (juveniles and adults); Periods of bird collection and presence of co-infections. Were identified five taxa, four belongs to Rhinonyssidae (Sternostoma strandtmanni, Ptilonyssus sairae, P. icteridius and Ptilonyssus sp.) and one to Ereynetidae (Boydaia agelaii). Adult males were parasitized for one taxa more than juvenile males. Co-infections occurred in 22 hosts, between two, three and four taxa, belonging to Ereynetidae and Rhinonyssidae. The co-infections were more prevalent in austral autumn / winter. The host-parasite relations and co-infections by nasal mites in C. ruficapillus were reported for the first time, contributing to the knowledge about nasal mites in Brazil.

The work was aimed to increase knowledge on the diversity of parasitic digeneans in freshwater turtles from southern Brazil. Phrynops hilarii and Acanthochelys spixii are common turtle species of the Rio Grande do Sul fauna; however, little is known about the helminths parasitizing these hosts. In this context, 14 A. spixii and 5 P. hilarii were necropsied and helminthologically examined. The digenean species Cheloniodiplostomum sp. (Proterodiplostomidae), and Telorchis platensis (Telorchiidae) were reported for the first time in A. spixii. This is the first report of Cheloniodiplostomum testudinis, and Telorchis birabeni in P. hilarii from Brazil.

Seeking to achieve effective and innovative inter-sector action, the Educational Program for Health Work has been involving schools, academia, and local health services in the challenge of building a solid relationship between health and schools. The current case report shares the experience with the Educating for Health project, a partnership between the Family Health Team (FHT) from a neighborhood in Pelotas, Rio Grande do Sul State, teachers from two local schools, and students from the Educational Program for Health Work (PET-Saúde). The aim was to reflect on the roles of the FHT and students from the PET-Saúde project in the integration between health and education. The themes discussed in the process relate to sex education, sexual and reproductive rights with an emphasis on sexually transmitted diseases and contraception, prevention, health promotion, and recovery/rehabilitation. Students' participation added ideas, values, and concepts, fostering the (re)construction of interpersonal relations and promoting a recycling of the work process. Based on multi-professional and interdisciplinary linkages, this partnership became a mutual learning process, the results of which are reflected directly by improvement in healthcare for the community.

Swimming contributes to physical, mental and social health of people who have some kind of disability. Bearing in mind that the nutritional aspect is relevant to sports performance as well as to life quality of these individuals, this study has aimed at evaluating the nutritional status of disabled individuals who practice swimming. Four male and four female individuals aged between 19 and 36 years who have either physical or visual impairment, as well as swim two or three weekly times, participated in the assessment protocol. Anthropometric analysis and food intake evaluation were used through three-day-recording and biochemical evaluation for the analysis of the lipid profile (triglycerides, total and fraction cholesterol). Mean BMI found was 24.15 ± 2.33 kg/m2 and 27.26 ± 4.91kg/m2 for men and women, respectively. The average food intake observed for both sexes was 3161.33 ± 480.08 kcal, having mean composition of 58.13 ± 5.04% of carbohydrates, 19.62 ± 1.54% of protein and 22.45 ± 5.64% of lipids from the total energetic value (TEV). Women presented adequate intake of protein, while men ingested it beyond their needs (2.14 ± 0.34 g/kg/day). Concerning the other nutrients, intake was adequate for both sexes. The biochemical analyses showed adequate lipid profile in general, with tendency for low HDL levels. It was concluded that the male individuals had satisfactory body composition and lipid profile, despite excessive intake of calories and proteins, while the female individuals presented nutritional risk due to overweight. It becomes evident the later group needs individualized nutritional orientation so as to correct their inadequate eating habits and hence improve their physical performance and life quality.
