Palicourea tomentosa (Aubl.) Borhidi (Rubiaceae, Palicoureeae), earlier classified as Psychotria poeppigiana Müll. Arg., is used in folk medicine for a variety of diseases. Biological studies on the plant describes their vasorelaxant, antiplasmodial, antitumoural and anticholinesterase activities. To expand the knowledge on the chemical and biological potential of this species, in this work, phytochemical and dereplication studies, as well as antimicrobial and anticholinesterase evaluation of Palicourea tomentosa were carried out. Phytochemical investigation deals with the isolation of lutein (1), a mixture of dehydrovomifoliol (2) and megastigma-4,7-dien-3-one (3), loliolide (4), 5,13-epoxy-9-hydroxy-megastigma-7-en,3-one (5), vomifoliol (6), asperuloside (7), 3-O-p-coumaroylquinic acid (8), and a mixture of the pyrrolizidinoindoline alkaloids hodgkinsine (9), chimonanthine (10) and psychotriasine (11). The ultra-high performance liquid chromatography coupled to high-resolution mass spectrometry (UHPLC HRMS/MS) based on molecular networking dereplication of dichloromethane fraction led to putative identification of other two megastigmanes, one terpene lactone and three carotenoids, besides seven triterpenes and four indole alkaloids. The dichloromethane, ethyl acetate and hydromethanol fractions of P. tomentosa were able to inhibit Candida albicans with minimum inhibitory concentrations (MICs) of 125, 250 and 125 µg mL-1, respectively. RESUMO: A osteologia desempenha um papel indispensável para o conhecimento dos padrões de normalidade das diversas espécies, sendo a base para o entendimento zoológico. Mazama nana é bastante conhecido no Brasil, porém descrições morfológicas básicas acerca da espécie são escassas, enquanto Subulo gouazoubira, revalidação atual de Mazama gouazoubira, também é incidente no Brasil e, atualmente, tem sido alvo de diversos estudos filogenéticos. Nesse escopo, no presente estudo, foram preparadas, osteologicamente, 19 cabeças de cervídeos (16 Subulo gouazoubira e três Mazama nana) e, em seguida, tomografias computadorizadas (TCs) foram realizadas a fim de aprimorar as formas de avaliação de acidentes ósseos, além de estruturas internas e forames mediante técnicas de reconstrução em três dimensões (3D) devido a difícil visibilidade em peças intactas. ABSTRACT: Osteology plays an indispensable role in understanding the normal patterns of different species, serving as the foundation for zoological understanding. Mazama nana is well-known in Brazil; however, basic morphological descriptions of the species are scarce, while Subulo gouazoubira, currently revalidated as Mazama gouazoubira, is also prevalent in Brazil and has recently been the subject of various phylogenetic studies. Resumo Este estudo analisa a estratégia da Secretaria de Estado de Energia e Economia do Mar (SEENEMAR) no fomento da economia azul no Estado do Rio de Janeiro (ERJ), com foco na sustentabilidade ambiental e social. A análise dos projetos, como o Polo Naval Pesqueiro e a energia eólica offshore, revela contribuições significativas para o crescimento econômico, sustentabilidade ambiental e inclusão social. A SEENEMAR demonstrou eficácia na geração de empregos, atração de investimentos e descarbonização, além de promover a inclusão social através de programas de capacitação e valorização da gastronomia do mar. No entanto, a falta de uma definição formal de economia do mar a nível federal pode limitar a expansão dessas iniciativas. Este estudo sugere que a continuidade e o sucesso das políticas da SEENEMAR dependem de monitoramento constante e ajustes baseados em dados empíricos.

Abstract This study analyzes the strategy of the State Secretary of Energy and Sea Economy (SEENEMAR) in promoting the blue economy in the State of Rio de Janeiro (ERJ), focusing on environmental and social sustainability. The analysis of projects, such as the Fishery Naval Hub and offshore wind energy, reveals significant contributions to economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. SEENEMAR has shown effectiveness in job creation, attracting investments, and decarbonization, as well as promoting social inclusion through training programs and valuing sea gastronomy. However, the lack of a formal blue economy definition at the federal level may limit the expansion of these initiatives. This study suggests that the continuity and success of SEENEMAR's policies depend on constant monitoring and adjustments based on empirical data.

Abstract Objective: To examine if the substitution of different screen time intervals with light physical activity (LPA), moderate to vigorous physical activity (MVPA) and sleep is associated with cardiovascular indicators and inflammatory markers in children. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study developed with 186 children aged between six and 11 years old from public schools in southern Brazil. CRF was measured with the 6-minute running and walking test, following the Brazil Sports Project procedures. The percentage of fat was evaluated through DXA. LPA and MVPA were measured using accelerometers. Sleep and screen time were assessed by questionnaires answered by parents. Leptin and C-reactive protein were measured by fasting blood collection. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure were determined through a digital sphygmomanometer. Isotemporal substitution models were used for statistical analysis. Results: Replacing 1 h of screen time with MVPA was associated with lower BMI, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, fat percentage, leptin, and C-reactive protein. When screen time was substituted for sleep time, lower waist circumference was observed. Regarding the substitution of 1 h of screen time with LPA, significant values were found only for leptin. Conclusion: The replacement of screen time with physical activities of different intensities and sleep time was associated with benefits in cardiovascular indicators and inflammatory markers in childhood. RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a eficácia clínica da aplicação intra-articular de células-tronco mesenquimais alógenas derivadas do tecido adiposo (AD-CTM) no tratamento de cães portadores de osteoartrite secundária a displasia do coxofemoral (DCF). Doze cães de ambos os sexos, diferentes raças, idades e peso, portadores de graus variados de DCF comprovada em radiografia e livres de quaisquer outras alterações clínicas ou ortopédicas, foram utilizados no estudo. Todos os cães foram submetidos a avaliação ortopédica nos dias 0, 30, 60 e 90 após aplicação de AD-CTM na dose de 2 x 106. Além disso, os tutores preencheram a um questionário, baseado no Índice de dor crônica de Helsinque (IDCH) nos mesmos intervalos. Em comparação com o dia 0, observou-se melhora significativa na avalição em locomoção e físico-ortopédica assim como na avaliação dos tutores pelo IDCH ao longo dos 90 dias. ABSTRACT: This study assessed the efficacy of an intra-articular injection of allogeneic adipose tissue-derived from mesenchymal stem cells (AD-MSCs) for the treatment of hip dysplasia in dogs. The study group included 12 otherwise healthy dogs of different breeds, ages, weights, and degrees of hip dysplasia diagnosed using radiography. An orthopedic assessment was performed on all dogs before and at 30, 60, and 90 days after infusion of AD-MSCs(2 × 106cells). On the same days, each dog’s owner answered a questionnaire based on theHelsinkiChronic Pain Index. The data were converted to ordinal data based on the score for each variable, and the Friedman test for multiple comparisons was used to verify the results. Compared with the corresponding values on day 0, orthopedic and gait assessments and owners’ reported pain indexes improved over the 90-day observation period. These results suggested that treatment with allogeneic AD-MSCs significantly reduced the clinical signs associated with hip dysplasia during the study period. Abstract Large quantities of residual cooking oil are being increasingly generated in various sectors, as it is often improperly disposed of and causes serious environmental problems. A commonly used alternative is the use of lipases in enzymatic hydrolysis, since it is rather attractive to several sectors, in addition to allowing the use of products generated thereof, such as: free fatty acids, diacylglycerols, monoacylglycerols and free glycerol, moreover, it is capable of operating in mild temperature and pressure conditions. Therefore, the present study aimed to evaluate alternatives for the hydrolysis of residual frying oil by evaluating the efficiency of different types of supports and heating systems using free and immobilized forms of lipase from Burkholderia cepacia (BCL) and Porcine pancreas (PPL) as biocatalyst. Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB), niobium oxide (Nb2O5) and chitosan (CHIT) were evaluated as support for immobilizing BCL and PPL lipases, and superior results were found regarding the hydrolytic activity of immobilization derivatives using PHB and Nb2O5. Among the heating systems under evaluation, the highest percentage of residual oil hydrolysis was found using the ultrasound system for both free and immobilized lipases, reaching 57.91% hydrolysis for lipases immobilized on Nb2O5 and 61.11% hydrolysis for the derivative immobilized on PHB. The operational stability of both biocatalysts was evaluated using similar half-life time values for both. Resumo Um macho de Pteronura brasiliensis (Carnivora: Mustelidae) foi encontrado morto às margens do Rio Negro, no Pantanal do estado de Mato Grosso do Sul, município de Aquidauana. Dois carrapatos encontrados aderidos à sua pele foram identificados, morfologicamente, como uma ninfa de segundo ínstar de Ornithodoros rostratus (Argasidae) e um macho de Amblyomma sculptum (Ixodidae). Para complementar a identificação morfológica, esses espécimes de carrapatos foram submetidos à extração de DNA e testados por meio de ensaios de PCR, para confirmar a identidade molecular dos espécimes. Além disso, os extraídos dos carrapatos foram testados e revelaram-se negativos nos ensaios de PCR para todos os patógenos testados. Também foram examinados 30 lotes, compostos por 174 indivíduos de O. rostratus, depositados na Coleção Acari do Instituto Butantan, e encontramos material de quatro estados brasileiros, incluindo-se um lote contendo 2 machos e 2 fêmeas de Aquidauana, estado de Mato Grosso do Sul (MS), coletado do solo. Abstract A male of Pteronura brasiliensis (Carnivora: Mustelidae) was found dead on the banks of the Rio Negro, in the Pantanal wetlands of Mato Grosso do Sul state, Aquidauana municipality. Two ticks found attached to its skin were morphologically identified as a second-instar nymph of Ornithodoros rostratus (Argasidae) and a male of Amblyomma sculptum (Ixodidae). In order to complement the morphological identification, these tick specimens were subjected to DNA extraction, and tested using PCR assays to confirm the molecular identity the specimens. Also, the tick DNA samples were tested and were negative in the PCR assays for all the pathogens tested. We also examined 30 batches, consisting of 174 individuals of O. rostratus deposited in the Acari Collection of the Butantan Institute, and we found material from four Brazilian states, including one batch containing 2 males and 2 females from Aquidauana, of Mato Grosso do Sul state, collected from the soil. BACKGROUND Leishmania tarentolae is a non-pathogenic species found in lizards representing an important model for Leishmania biology. However, several aspects of this Sauroleishmania remain unknown to explain its low level of virulence. OBJECTIVES We reported several aspects of L. tarentolae biology including glycoconjugates, proteolytic activities and metabolome composition in comparison to pathogenic species (Leishmania amazonensis, Leishmania braziliensis, Leishmania infantum and Leishmania major). METHODS Parasites were cultured for extraction and purification of lipophosphoglycan (LPG), immunofluorescence probing with anti-gp63 and resistance against complement. Parasite extracts were also tested for proteases activity and metabolome composition. FINDINGS Leishmania tarentolae does not express LPG on its surface. It expresses gp63 at lower levels compared to pathogenic species and, is highly sensitive to complement-mediated lysis. This species also lacks intracellular/extracellular activities of proteolytic enzymes. It has metabolic differences with pathogenic species, exhibiting a lower abundance of metabolites including ABC transporters, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and steroids, TCA cycle, glycine/serine/threonine metabolism, glyoxylate/dicarboxylate metabolism and pentose-phosphate pathways. Resumo Fundamento O cardioversor-desfibrilador implantável (CDI) pode causar níveis elevados de ansiedade e depressão, resultando em efeitos negativos na qualidade de vida. Objetivos Avaliar a qualidade de vida, a ansiedade e a aceitação do CDI por meio de instrumentos de medida padronizados e identificar preditores de melhores respostas para cada um dos desfechos estudados. Método Coorte prospectiva com pacientes submetidos a implante inicial de CDI ou reoperação para a manutenção do dispositivo. Os desfechos do estudo incluíram: qualidade de vida, ansiedade e aceitação do CDI. A mudança nos escores (30 e 180 dias) foi avaliada por meio da diferença mínima importante (DMI). Foi utilizada a análise univariada e o modelo de regressão logística multivariada para a identificação de preditores de melhores respostas, adotando-se o nível de significância de 5%. Resultados De janeiro/2020 a junho/2021 foram incluídos 147 pacientes, com idade média de 55,3 ± 13,4 anos e predomínio do sexo masculino (72,1%). A DMI para qualidade de vida, a ansiedade e a aceitação do CDI foram observadas em 33 (22,4%), 36 (24,5%) e 43 (29,3%) pacientes, respectivamente. Abstract Background An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) can cause high levels of anxiety and depression, resulting in negative effects on quality of life. Objectives To evaluate the quality of life, anxiety, and acceptance of the ICD using standardized measurement instruments and identify predictors of better responses for each of the outcomes studied. Method This is a prospective cohort study with patients undergoing initial ICD implantation or reoperation to maintain the device. The study outcomes included quality of life, anxiety, and acceptance of the ICD. The change in scores (30 and 180 days) was assessed using the minimal important difference (MID). Univariate analysis and the multivariate logistic regression model were used to identify predictors of better responses, adopting a significance level of 5%. Results A total of 147 patients were included between January/2020 to June/2021, with a mean age of 55.3 ± 13.4 years and a predominance of males (72.1%). The MID for quality of life, anxiety, and ICD acceptance were observed in 33 (22.4%), 36 (24.5%) and 43 (29.3%) patients, respectively. Abstract Postprandial lipemia (PPL) is associated with cardiovascular diseases, and it is assessed by the oral fat tolerance test (OFTT), which measures circulating triacylglycerol (TG). The objective is to propose an OFTT meal and to evaluate men’s and women’s perceptions, attitudes, sensory acceptability, and satiety. After overnight fasting, blood was collected (n=105), participants ingested the OFTT meal (75.4g lipids, 25.2g carbohydrates, and 10.8g protein/ 822.6 Kcal), and a new blood sample was collected 4h later. Fasting TG was 125.7±92.0 mg/dL (mean±SD) for men and 108.9±52.6 mg/dL for women. It increased by 97.7% and 86.7%, respectively, 4h after meal ingestion (P<0.0001), with no change in glucose. Participants felt satiated during the test. The meal was considered easy to eat and better tolerated by men. The median overall sensory acceptability was 7.0 [9-point hedonic scale]. The greatest fullness was seen in the first hour (magnitude satiety scale) and higher for women (P<0.01). The fatty meal proposed by the current study is adequate for the OFTT since it increased blood TG after 4h without hypoglycemia, it was easy to prepare, to eat, it kept participants satiated, and it displayed good perception, attitudes, and sensory acceptability. RESUMO: O presente estudo visou avaliar a influência da cultura antecessora (crotalária ou milho) sob o feno de aveia preta (Avena strigosa) cultivar EMBRAPA 139, nos aspectos bromatológicos, de digestibilidade e microbiológicos. O delineamento experimental foi realizado em blocos casualizados, com parcelas subdivididas no tempo, sendo alocados na parcela principal a cultura antecessora (crotalária ou milho), e nas sub parcelas, o período de armazenamento do feno (enfardamento, 30, 60 e 90 dias de armazenamento), com cinco repetições. A presença da crotalária como cultivo antecessor proporcionou ao feno de aveia preta menores teores de proteína indigestível e maiores teores de fibra, ambas em detergente ácido, bem como pH mais elevado. O feno de aveia preta com o milho como cultivo antecessor proporcionou melhores resultados de digestibilidade na forma de feno, pois menores teores de proteína indigestível em detergente neutro e maior digestibilidade in vitro da fibra em detergente neutro. ABSTRACT: The present study assessed the influence of the preceding crop (crotalaria or corn) on the bromatological, digestibility and microbiological aspects of the EMBRAPA 139 black oat hay (Avena strigosa) cultivar. A randomized block design was used, with subplots divided according to time, whereby the preceding crop (crotalaria or corn) was allocated to the main plot and hay storage times (baling, 30, 60 and 90 days of storage) to the subplots, with five repetitions. Crotalaria as predecessor resulted in lower indigestible fiber and higher protein contents in black oat hay, both in acid detergent, as well as higher pH. Corn as the preceding crop provided better hay digestibility due to lower neutral detergent insoluble protein content and higher in vitro neutral detergent fiber digestibility. The preceding crop did not significantly affect the drying time of forage and the microorganism population. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The Positive Aspects of Caregiving (PAC) scale is used to assess psychosocial benefits provided to caregivers by the task of caring. The PAC scale consists of nine items, assessed using a five-point Likert scale, with higher values indicating greater positive perceptions and gains from the caregiving experience. OBJECTIVE: To translate and culturally adapt the PAC scale for informal Brazilian caregivers of people with dementia. DESIGN AND SETTING: A methodological study was conducted at the Federal University of São Carlos. METHODS: The following stages were carried out: Translation; Synthesis of the translations; Back-translation; Evaluation by an experts’ committee; and Pre-test. RESULTS: Two independent professionals translated the PAC scale. The consensus version was obtained by merging both translations, which were back-translated into English by a third translator. The expert committee comprised three specialists in the area and project researchers. All scale items presented a Content Validity Index of 1 (CVI = 1.0), and thus remained in the pre-final version of the instrument. The instrument was pre-tested with seven caregivers of people with dementia, the majority of whom were women (57.1%), with a degree of kinship corresponding to sons/daughters (57.1%) and an average age of 55.2 (± 4.1) years. The caregivers considered it clear and understandable and made no suggestions for changes. CONCLUSION: The PAC scale was translated and culturally adapted for use by informal caregivers of people with dementia in Brazil. However, a psychometric analysis of the instrument is necessary to provide normative data for this population group. Objetivo: Traduzir e adaptar culturalmente a Pearlin Mastery Scale para o Brasil. Métodos: Estudo metodológico conduzido na Universidade Federal de São Carlos, em que foram seguidas as etapas de tradução inicial; síntese; retrotradução; revisão pelo comitê de juízes pela análise do Índice de Validade de Conteúdo (IVC); e teste da versão pré-final. Resultados: Dois especialistas traduziram a escala para o português brasileiro e definiram uma versão consensual com os pesquisadores. ABSTRACT The sense of mastery is conceptualized as a positive aspect of care targeted at people living with dementia, a coping mechanism to reduce burden, and may represent a protective factor for caregivers’ mental and physical health. Objective: To translate and culturally adapt the Pearlin Mastery Scale for Brazil. Methods: A methodological study was conducted at the Federal University of São Carlos in which the initial translation stages were followed; synthesis; back-translation; review by the committee of judges by analyzing the Content Validity Index (CVI); and test of the pre-final version. Results: Two specialists translated the scale into Brazilian Portuguese and defined a consensus version with the researchers. Abstract Objectives: to identify the scientific evidence on excessively resistant and multidrug resistant tuberculosis in pediatric patients. Methods: this is a scope review of the literature, with a guiding question: “What is the scientific evidence on multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) and extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis in pediatric patients?”. The research used the descriptors: “extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis” OR “multidrug-resistant tuberculosis” AND “pediatrics”.
