BACKGROUND Leishmania tarentolae is a non-pathogenic species found in lizards representing an important model for Leishmania biology. However, several aspects of this Sauroleishmania remain unknown to explain its low level of virulence. OBJECTIVES We reported several aspects of L. tarentolae biology including glycoconjugates, proteolytic activities and metabolome composition in comparison to pathogenic species (Leishmania amazonensis, Leishmania braziliensis, Leishmania infantum and Leishmania major). METHODS Parasites were cultured for extraction and purification of lipophosphoglycan (LPG), immunofluorescence probing with anti-gp63 and resistance against complement. Parasite extracts were also tested for proteases activity and metabolome composition. FINDINGS Leishmania tarentolae does not express LPG on its surface. It expresses gp63 at lower levels compared to pathogenic species and, is highly sensitive to complement-mediated lysis. This species also lacks intracellular/extracellular activities of proteolytic enzymes. It has metabolic differences with pathogenic species, exhibiting a lower abundance of metabolites including ABC transporters, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and steroids, TCA cycle, glycine/serine/threonine metabolism, glyoxylate/dicarboxylate metabolism and pentose-phosphate pathways. MAIN CONCLUSIONS The non-pathogenic phenotype of L. tarentolae is associated with alterations in several biochemical and molecular features. Abstract This cross-sectional study evaluated the association between salivary immunoglobulins, plaque index, and gingival index in Brazilian children with and without type 1 diabetes mellitus (DM1). The Strengthening the Reporting of Observational Studies in Epidemiology (STROBE) checklist for the reporting of observational studies was followed. The DM1 group had 38 children, and an equal number of volunteers matched by sex and age were recruited as controls. Clinical examination was performed for plaque index and gingival index determination. Non-stimulated whole saliva was collected. Concentrations of IgA, IgG, and IgM were determined by ELISA test. Data were tested by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov, Mann-Whitney, and Spearman tests and a multiple linear regression model (p<0.05) was performed. Gingival index was higher in the Control (DM1: 0.16±0.17; Control: 0.24±0.23, p=0.040). In DM1, there was a correlation between IgA and age (rho=0.371, p=0.024), IgM and IgG (rho=0.459, p=0.007), and IgM and gingival index (rho=0.394, p=0.014). In DM1, multiple linear regression showed that age (p=0.041; β=0.363), gingival index (p=0.041; β=0.398), and plaque index (p=0.008; β=-0.506) were good predictors of IgA levels in saliva. Abstract Objective To evaluate the rate of loss to follow-up in a cochlear implant program from the public health system in Southern Brazil as well as the characteristics of hearing loss, sociodemographic, sociocultural and the development of oral language in children with prelingual deafness. Methods Retrospective cohort study with children who underwent CI surgery between 2010 and 2020. Data was collected through of interviews and review of medical records. The language development assessment was performed using the MUSS, MAIS and IT-MAIS scales. For the classification of language development, we used as parameters the values (mean ± SD) found in a previous national study. From those values, the Z-score for each patient at each hearing age (time of experience with the cochlear implant) was calculated. Results Of the 225 children implanted between 2010-2020, 129 were included in this study. The rate of loss to follow-up in the program was 42.6%. The mean age at first surgery was 40.5 (±16.9) months, with 77.5% of patients having received a unilateral implant. Language results below the expected for hearing age (<Z-score-1) for the MAIS score were found in 59.7% of the sample, while for the MUSS score the proportion was 62%. Conclusions Most patients had an elevated mean age at cochlear implantation and there was a high rate of loss to follow-up and low attendance to speech and programming sessions. An overall poor language performance was found for this pediatric cochlear implant program from the public health system in Southern Brazil. BACKGROUND The impact of nutrient availability on the survival of Mycobacterium leprae and the development of leprosy remains largely unknown. Iron is essential for the survival and replication of pathogens, while vitamin D has been involved with pathogen elimination and immunoregulation. OBJECTIVES We evaluated the influence of dietary iron and vitamin D supplementation and restriction on the inflammatory response of mouse immune cells in vitro. METHODS After 30 days of standard or modified diets, peritoneal cells and splenocytes were stimulated with the alive microorganisms and sonicated antigens of M. leprae, respectively. The production of inflammatory cytokines, reactive oxygen species, and cell proliferation were evaluated. FINDINGS In peritoneal cells, vitamin D supplementation and iron restriction reduced the production of IL-6 and TNF in response to M. leprae, while splenocytes presented a reduction in TNF production under the same conditions. Lower levels of IFN-γ and TNF were observed in both iron-supplemented and iron-deficient splenocytes. Besides, iron supplementation also reduced the production of IL-6 and IL-10. No changes in the production of reactive oxygen species or in cell proliferation were observed related to different diets. MAIN CONCLUSIONS Taken together, these data point to an interference of the status of these nutrients on the interaction between the host and M. leprae, with the potential to interfere with the progression of leprosy. Resumo Fundamento As complicações cardiovasculares da COVID-19 são aspectos importantes da patogênese e do prognóstico da doença. Evidências do papel prognóstico da troponina e da lesão miocárdica em pacientes hospitalizados com COVID-19 na América Latina são ainda escassos. Objetivos Avaliar a lesão miocárdica como preditor independente de mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico em pacientes hospitalizados, do registro brasileiro de COVID-19. Métodos Este estudo coorte é um subestudo do registro brasileiro de COVID-19, conduzido em 31 hospitais brasileiros de 17 cidades, de março a setembro de 2020. Os desfechos primários incluíram mortalidade hospitalar e suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os modelos para os desfechos primários foram estimados por regressão de Poisson com variância robusta, com significância estatística de p<0,05. Resultados Dos 2925 pacientes [idade mediana de 60 anos (48-71), 57,1%], 27,3% apresentaram lesão miocárdica. A proporção de pacientes com comorbidades foi maior nos pacientes com lesão miocárdica [mediana 2 (1-2) vs. 1 (0-20)]. Os pacientes com lesão miocárdica apresentaram maiores valores medianos de peptídeo natriurético cerebral, lactato desidrogenase, creatina fosfoquinase, N-terminal do pró-peptídeo natriurético tipo B e proteína C reativa em comparação a pacientes sem lesão miocárdica. Como fatores independentes, proteína C reativa e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados com o risco de morte, e neutrófilos e contagem de plaquetas foram relacionados ao risco de suporte ventilatório mecânico invasivo. Os pacientes com níveis elevados de troponina apresentaram um maior risco de morte (RR 2,03, IC95% 1,60-2,58) e suporte ventilatório mecânico (RR 1,87;IC95% 1,57-2,23), em comparação àqueles com níveis de troponina normais. Abstract Background Cardiovascular complications of COVID-19 are important aspects of the disease’s pathogenesis and prognosis. Evidence on the prognostic role of troponin and myocardial injury in Latin American hospitalized COVID-19 patients is still scarce. Objectives To evaluate myocardial injury as independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized patients, from the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry. Methods This cohort study is a substudy of the Brazilian COVID-19 Registry, conducted in 31 Brazilian hospitals of 17 cities, March-September 2020. Primary outcomes included in-hospital mortality and invasive mechanical ventilation support. Models for the primary outcomes were estimated by Poisson regression with robust variance, with statistical significance of p<0.05. Results Of 2,925 patients (median age of 60 years [48-71], 57.1% men), 27.3% presented myocardial injury. The proportion of patients with comorbidities was higher among patients with cardiac injury (median 2 [1-2] vs. 1 [0-2]). Patients with myocardial injury had higher median levels of brain natriuretic peptide, lactate dehydrogenase, creatine phosphokinase, N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide, and C-reactive protein than patients without myocardial injury. As independent predictors, C-reactive protein and platelet counts were related to the risk of death, and neutrophils and platelet counts were related to the risk of invasive mechanical ventilation support. Patients with high troponin levels presented a higher risk of death (RR 2.03, 95% CI 1.60-2.58) and invasive mechanical ventilation support (RR 1.87, 95% CI 1.57-2.23), when compared to those with normal troponin levels. Conclusion Cardiac injury was an independent predictor of in-hospital mortality and the need for invasive mechanical ventilation support in hospitalized COVID-19 patients. RESUMO Objetivo: implementar e avaliar intervenções em saúde auditiva para escolares, utilizando as atividades do Programa Dangerous Decibels ®, em parceria com o Projeto Jovem Doutor, abordando aspectos preventivos da perda auditiva induzida por níveis de pressão sonora elevados. Métodos: participaram do estudo 41 escolares, com idade entre 12 e 14 anos, de duas escolas no interior de São Paulo e uma Instituição Social direcionada a estudantes de escolas públicas. As atividades foram baseadas no Projeto Jovem Doutor e no programa Dangerous Decibels ® Brasil. Os escolares responderam a um questionário aplicado em três situações, antes da intervenção (pré), logo após a intervenção (pós) e quatro meses após a intervenção. Foram utilizados os testes estatísticos ANOVA, FRIEDMAN; p<0,001 e TUKEY; p<0,05. Resultados: os 41 escolares que participaram do programa atuaram como protagonistas do conhecimento, multiplicando o conteúdo aprendido através das oficinas culturais, envolvendo 954 escolares das três escolas. Ao analisar a eficácia do programa, observou-se melhora nos resultados logo após a intervenção e, também, após 4 meses. Conclusão: a união desses dois programas incentivou o protagonismo juvenil, objetivando o maior envolvimento dos estudantes junto da comunidade. ABSTRACT Purpose: to implement and assess hearing health interventions for school students, using Dangerous Decibels® Program activities in partnership with the Young Doctor Project, approaching noise-induced hearing loss prevention. Methods: the study encompassed 41 students, aged 12 to 14 years, from two schools in inland São Paulo and a social institution for public school students. Activities were based on the Young Doctor Project and the Dangerous Decibels® Brazil Program. The students answered a questionnaire administered in three situations: before the intervention (pre), right after the intervention (post), and 4 months after the intervention. The ANOVA, Friedman (p < 0.001), and Tukey´s (p < 0.05) statistical tests were used. Results: the 41 students who participated in the program were protagonists of knowledge, spreading the content they learned to another 954 students in the three schools through cultural workshops. The analysis of program effectiveness revealed improved results right after the intervention and 4 months afterward. Conclusion: combining these two programs encouraged the protagonism of young people to increase their involvement with the community. Moreover, the students changed their attitude toward potentially dangerous sounds. Resumen Con el surgimiento de la pandemia COVID-19, las actividades de enseñanza y aprendizaje, así como los entornos de aprendizaje de posgrado, experimentaron cambios. La principal variante fue el traspaso de la docencia presencial a clases en formato remoto, acción que no estuvo acompañada de una reflexión consistente sobre cómo se refleja esto en el aprendizaje del estudiantado. Así, el objetivo del estudio fue analizar la percepción del cuerpo estudiantil de posgrado sobre el aprendizaje como resultado de los ambientes de aprendizaje vividos durante el distanciamiento social derivado de la pandemia COVID-19. La investigación adoptó un enfoque cuantitativo de carácter descriptivo, se realizó a través de una encuesta a 734 estudiantes graduados stricto sensu de varios cursos a nivel nacional, durante febrero de 2021. El cuestionario abordó 21 variables que se aglutinaron en cuatro ambientes de aprendizaje: físico, psicosocial, pedagógico y tecnológico. A través del análisis de conglomerados, se identificaron cinco grupos distintos: estudiantes con altos niveles de aprendizaje y buen uso de los entornos de aprendizaje; estudiantes con un nivel medio de aprendizaje; estudiantes con buen nivel de aprendizaje y dificultades en el entorno físico; estudiantes con bajo nivel de aprendizaje; y estudiantes con dificultades de aprendizaje y bajo uso de entornos de aprendizaje. Los resultados mostraron que una gran cantidad de estudiantes de posgrado en Brasil lograron adaptarse bien ante el escenario pandémico y aprender satisfactoriamente.

Resumo Com a emergência da pandemia de COVID-19 as atividades de ensino e de aprendizagem, assim como os ambientes de aprendizagem da pós-graduação, sofreram modificações. A principal delas foi a transferência do ensino presencial para aulas no formato remoto, ação esta que não foi acompanhada por condizente reflexão acerca de como isso reflete no aprendizado por parte dos estudantes. Assim, o objetivo do estudo foi analisar a percepção dos alunos da pós-graduação quanto a aprendizagem em função dos ambientes de aprendizagem vivenciados durante o distanciamento social decorrente da pandemia de COVID-19. A pesquisa adotou uma abordagem quantitativa de cunho descritivo, tendo sido realizada através de um levantamento com 734 estudantes de pós-graduação stricto sensu de diversos cursos a nível nacional, durante fevereiro de 2021. O questionário abordou 21 variáveis que se aglutinavam em quatro ambientes de aprendizagem: físico; psicossocial; pedagógico; e tecnológico. Através da análise de agrupamentos, identificou-se cinco grupos distintos: estudantes com alta aprendizagem e bom aproveitamento dos ambientes de aprendizagem; estudantes com nível mediano de aprendizagem; estudantes com bom nível de aprendizagem e dificuldades no ambiente físico; estudantes com baixo nível de aprendizagem; e estudantes com dificuldades de aprendizagem e baixo aproveitamento dos ambientes de aprendizagem. Os resultados mostraram que grande parte dos alunos da pós-graduação no Brasil conseguiram se adaptar bem diante do cenário pandêmico e ter aprendizados satisfatórios.

Abstract With the emergence of the COVID-19 pandemic, teaching and learning activities, as well as postgraduate learning environments, underwent changes. The main one was the transfer of classroom teaching to remote format classes, an action that was not accompanied by a consistent reflection on how this reflects on students' learning. Thus, the aim of the study was to analyze the perception of graduate students regarding learning as a result of the learning environments experienced during the social distancing resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The research adopted a quantitative approach of descriptive nature, having been carried out through a survey with 734 stricto sensu postgraduate students from several courses nationwide, during February 2021. The questionnaire addressed 21 variables that agglutinated in four environments of learning: physical; psychosocial; pedagogical; and technological. Through cluster analysis, five distinct groups were identified: students with high levels of learning and good use of learning environments; students with an average level of learning; students with a good level of learning and difficulties in the physical environment; students with a low level of learning; and students with learning difficulties and low use of learning environments. The results showed that a large number of graduate students in Brazil managed to adapt well in the face of the pandemic scenario and to learn satisfactorily.

Resumo As Diretrizes Brasileiras de Reabilitação do Acidente Vascular Cerebral (AVC) - Parte II, desenvolvida pelo Departamento Científico de Reabilitação Neurológica da Academia Brasileira de Neurologia é voltada para intervenções específicas de técnicas de reabilitação de déficits neurológicos e incapacidades. Seguindo o mesmo modelo da Parte I, a Parte II também se baseia em estudos randomizados, revisões sistemáticas, metanálises e outras diretrizes sobre o mesmo tema. Abstract The Brazilian Practice Guidelines for Stroke Rehabilitation – Part II, developed by the Scientific Department of Neurological Rehabilitation of the Brazilian Academy of Neurology (Academia Brasileira de Neurologia, in Portuguese), focuses on specific rehabilitation techniques to aid recovery from impairment and disability after stroke. As in Part I, Part II is also based on recently available evidence from randomized controlled trials, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and other guidelines. Part II covers disorders of communication, dysphagia, postural control and balance, ataxias, spasticity, upper limb rehabilitation, gait, cognition, unilateral spatial neglect, sensory impairments, home rehabilitation, medication adherence, palliative care, cerebrovascular events related to severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection, the future of stroke rehabilitation, and stroke websites to support patients and caregivers. Several aspects of life in society have changed with the environment created by the COVID-19 pandemic. One of the most relevant was the transfer of face-to-face teaching to classes in the remote format, an action that was not accompanied by a consistent reflection on how this reflects on student learning. Thus, the aim of the study was to analyze how experienced learning environments relate to perceived learning during social distancing resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The research adopted a quantitative approach of a descriptive nature, having been carried out through a survey with 734 stricto sensu graduate students from different courses nationwide, during February 2021. The variables that characterize the learning environments experienced by students are explored from the analysis model proposed in this study and were grouped into: physical, psychosocial, technological and pedagogical environment. Through descriptive statistics, it was identified that, despite some students pointing out difficulties, in general, graduate students responded relatively well to the restrictions imposed by social distancing, in all dimensions of the learning environments studied.

Varios aspectos de la vida en sociedad han cambiado con el entorno creado por la pandemia de COVID-19. Uno de los más relevantes fue el traslado de la enseñanza presencial a clases a distancia, acción que no estuvo acompañada de una reflexión consistente sobre cómo se refleja esto en el aprendizaje de los estudiantes. Por lo tanto, el objetivo del estudio fue analizar cómo los entornos de aprendizaje experimentados se relacionan con el aprendizaje percibido durante el distanciamiento social resultante de la pandemia de COVID-19. La investigación adoptó un enfoque cuantitativo de carácter descriptivo, habiéndose realizado a través de una encuesta a 734 estudiantes de posgrado stricto sensu de diferentes carreras a nivel nacional, durante febrero de 2021. A partir del modelo de análisis propuesto se exploran las variables que caracterizan los ambientes de aprendizaje vividos por los estudiantes. en este estudio y se agruparon en: entorno físico, psicosocial, tecnológico y pedagógico. A través de la estadística descriptiva, se identificó que, a pesar de que algunos estudiantes señalaron dificultades, en general, los estudiantes de posgrado respondieron relativamente bien a las restricciones impuestas por el distanciamiento social, en todas las dimensiones de los ambientes de aprendizaje estudiados.

Assim, o objetivo do estudo foi analisar como os ambientes de aprendizagem experienciados se relacionam à aprendizagem percebida durante o distanciamento social decorrente da pandemia de COVID-19. A pesquisa adotou uma abordagem quantitativa de cunho descritivo, tendo sido realizada através de um levantamento com 734 estudantes de pós-graduação stricto sensu de diversos cursos em âmbito nacional, durante fevereiro de 2021. As variáveis que caracterizam os ambientes de aprendizagem vivenciados pelos estudantes são exploradas a partir do modelo de análise proposto neste estudo e foram agrupadas em: ambiente físico, psicossocial, tecnológico e pedagógico. Por meio da estatística descritiva, identificou-se que, apesar de alguns alunos apontarem dificuldades, de modo geral os estudantes de pós-graduação responderam relativamente bem às restrições impostas pelo distanciamento social, em todas as dimensões estudadas dos ambientes de aprendizagem.

RESUMO Objetivos: Descrever o significado atribuído às vivências da experiência clínica dos enfermeiros especialistas na implementação de focos do cuidado de enfermagem e respetivas intervenções promotoras da autonomia dos idosos. Método: Estudo qualitativo com base no método de Giorgi. Foram entrevistados 18 enfermeiros especialistas, recrutados por conveniência em dois hospitais da região a norte de Portugal, entre março e dezembro de 2018. Resultados: Na experiência clínica dos enfermeiros especialistas, quanto ao processo de enfermagem, emergiram três temas: focos do cuidado de enfermagem; implementação de intervenções de enfermagem e fatores dificultadores. Conclusões: Os enfermeiros especialistas, em sua maioria em reabilitação, promovem essencialmente a capacidade física dos idosos, no âmbito da autonomia, revelando que as condições de trabalho, como a falta de tempo e os sistemas de informação, constituem o fator limitador da sua promoção.

ABSTRACT Objectives: To describe the meaning attributed to the experiences of the clinical experience of specialist nurses in the implementation of nursing care focuses and respective interventions that promote the autonomy of the elderly. Method: Qualitative study based on Giorgi's method. Eighteen specialist nurses were interviewed, recruited for convenience in two hospitals in the northern region of Portugal, between March and December 2018. Results: In the clinical experience of specialist nurses, regarding the nursing process, three themes emerged: focuses of nursing care; implementation of nursing interventions and hindering factors. Conclusions: The specialist nurses, most of whom are rehabilitation specialists, essentially promote the physical capacity of the elderly, within the scope of autonomy, revealing that working conditions, such as lack of time and information systems, are the limiting factor of their promotion.

RESUMEN Objetivos: Describir el significado atribuido a las vivencias de la experiencia clínica de enfermeros especialistas en la implementación de los enfoques de atención de enfermería y las respectivas intervenciones que promueven la autonomía del anciano. Método: Estudio cualitativo basado en el método de Giorgi. Se entrevistaron dieciocho enfermeras especializadas, reclutadas por conveniencia en dos hospitales de la región norte de Portugal, entre marzo y diciembre de 2018. Resultados: En la experiencia clínica de los enfermeros especialistas, en relación con el proceso de enfermería, surgieron tres temas: focos de atención de enfermería; implementación de intervenciones de enfermería y factores obstaculizadores. Conclusiones: Los enfermeros especialistas, en su mayoría especialistas en rehabilitación, promueven fundamentalmente la capacidad física de las personas mayores, en el ámbito de la autonomía, revelando que las condiciones laborales, como la falta de tiempo y sistemas de información, son el fator limitante para su promoción.

Resumo A preocupação com a exploração desenfreada dos recursos naturais tem aumentado nas últimas décadas, principalmente envolvendo a água e seu tratamento. Paradoxalmente, uma das fontes de poluição da água é justamente o seu tratamento, devido ao uso de floculantes químicos, que acabam gerando lodos que podem ser altamente agressivos ao meio ambiente. Uma das formas de resolver este problema é utilizar floculantes naturais para esta finalidade, uma vez que são biodegradáveis e não agridem a natureza. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a eficiência de um floculante natural produzido com taninos extraídos da casca do cajueiro (Anacardium occidentale) e compará-lo com dois coagulantes comerciais, Tanfloc® e cloreto de ferro. A água para tratamento foi coletada de um açude. A casca do cajueiro foi coletada, moída e submetida à extração em água quente para obtenção dos taninos, e o produto da extração foi cationizado. Os testes de floculação foram realizados utilizando-se o jar test com soluções nas concentrações de 33,3, 66,7 e 100 mg L-1. A turbidez e o pH foram analisados antes e após a floculação. Dentre os floculantes avaliados, os taninos cationizados produziram as melhores respostas tanto para remoção de turbidez quanto para pH final da água tratada. O Tanfloc® também apresentou resultados satisfatórios quanto à remoção de turbidez. O cloreto de ferro, além de não clarificar adequadamente a água, a deixou muito ácida. Como os taninos cationizados praticamente não alteraram o pH e foram eficazes na remoção da turbidez, consistem em um produto interessante para o tratamento da água.

Abstract Concern about the overexploitation of natural resources has increased in recent decades, especially involving water and its treatment. Paradoxically, one of the sources of water pollution is the treatment itself, due to the use of chemical flocculants, which end up generating sludge that may be highly aggressive to the environment. One of the ways to solve this problem is to use natural flocculants for this purpose, since they are biodegradable and do not harm nature. This study evaluated the efficiency of a natural flocculant produced from tannins extracted from the bark of the cashew tree (Anacardium occidentale) and compared it with two commercial coagulants, Tanfloc® and iron chloride. The water for treatment was collected from a weir. The cashew trees’ bark was collected, ground, and submitted to hot-water extraction to yield the tannins, and the extraction product was cationized. The flocculation tests were carried out using the jar test with solutions having concentrations of 33.3, 66.7, and 100 mg L-1. Turbidity and pH were analyzed before and after flocculation. Among the assessed flocculants, the cationized tannins produced the best responses both for removal of turbidity and final pH of the treated water. Tanfloc® also produced satisfactory results regarding turbidity removal. The iron chloride, besides not properly clarifying the water, left it very acidic. Since the cationized tannins practically did not change the pH and were effective in the removal of turbidity, they represent an interesting, sustainable alternative product to treat the water.

RESUMO O objetivo foi avaliar a relação espacial dos indicadores de saneamento (acesso à água e ao esgoto), considerando a modelagem da concessão da Companhia Estadual de Águas e Esgotos do Rio de Janeiro (Cedae), e a sua possível relação com a incidência da Covid-19, nos bairros com e sem áreas de favelas. Os dados de casos confirmados da Covid-19 analisados foram obtidos no Painel Saúde do Rio de Janeiro. Foi considerado o fracionamento do município em quatro blocos regionais. Nos 163 bairros da cidade, a taxa de incidência média foi de 9,78 casos/1.000 hab. Os bairros com as menores taxa de incidência foram aqueles com predominância de aglomerados subnormais (favelas), baixa renda per capita e cobertura de saneamento, sugerindo maior lacuna de testagem e subnotificação de casos. Reduzir a inequidade e o racismo estrutural deveria ser prioritário. A sindemia da Covid-19 contribuiu fortemente para perdas socioeconômicas e de saúde pública significativas. Em um cenário de reconstrução, é imprescindível retomar o compromisso para com os Objetivos de Desenvolvimento Sustentável da Agenda 2030 das Nações Unidas.

ABSTRACT This assessment aimed to evaluate the putative spatial relationship between sanitation indicators (access to water and sewage) considering the Rio de Janeiro State Water and Sewage Company (CEDAE) parameters and the COVID-19 incidence among districts with and without slum areas. The data of confirmed COVID-19 cases analyzed were obtained from the Rio de Janeiro Health Panel. We considered the division of the municipality into four regional blocks. The mean COVID-19 incidence was 9.78 cases/1,000 inhabitants in the 163 city districts. The lowest COVID-19 incidence rate was most reported in slum regions, with lower per capita income and sanitation coverage, suggesting a significant gap in testing and case underreporting. Reducing inequality and structural racism should be a priority. The COVID-19 syndemic strongly contributed to significant socioeconomic and public health losses. Our commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 agenda of the United Nations is pivotal in a backdrop of reconstruction.

Os tratamentos foram compostos pelos seguintes sistemas de manejo: (S1) Pastagem (Cynodon spp.) com 4 anos; (S2) Romã (Punicata granatum L.) com 6 anos;(S3) Sorgo forrageiro (Sorghum bicolor L.) com 4 anos e, (S4) vegetação nativa. Avaliou-se a retenção de água no solo por meio da curva característica de umidade, densidade do solo, porosidade do solo (macro e microporosidade e porosidade total), capacidade de aeração do solo e porosidade livre de ar. Os dados foram analisados através da estatística multivariada. Os resultados demonstram que o Vertissolo apresenta elevada retenção e baixa disponibilidade de água as plantas. Melhor qualidade estrutural foi observada no solo sob mata nativa. Conclui-se que os sistemas de manejo composto por pastagem e sorgo estão promovendo mudanças, até o presente momento de forma negativa à estrutura do solo, com redução da macroporosidade e da capacidade de aeração do solo.

ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to verify the effect of different management systems on the physical-hydric quality of a Vertisol located in the climatic domain of the Brazilian Semiarid. The treatments were composed by the following management systems: (S1) Pasture (Cynodon spp.) With 4 years; (S2) Pomegranate (Punicata granatum L.) aged 6; (S3) Forage sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) aged 4 years and (S4) native vegetation. The soil water retention curve, soil density, porosity of soil (macro, microporosity and, total porosity), soil aeration capacity and free air porosity. The data were analyzed using multivariate statistics. The results demonstrate that the Vertisol presents high retention and low availability of water to the plants. Better structural quality was observed in the soil under native forest. It is concluded that the management systems composed of pasture and sorghum are promoting negative changes to the soil structure, with a reduction of macroporosity and of the aeration capacity of the soil.

RESUMO Os solos do semiárido brasileiro estão sob um constante processo de degradação e estratégias sustentáveis de produção agropecuária devem ser adotadas de forma a mitigar este problema. Sendo assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o comportamento físico-hídrico do solo quatro anos após a implantação de sistemas de integração lavoura-pecuária-floresta no semiárido Brasileiro. O experimento foi instalado no município de Alagoinha, PB, em um Planossolo Háplico de textura franco-arenosa. Foram avaliados cinco sistemas de integração em delineamento de blocos ao acaso (DBC) com quatro repetições: i) Ipê roxo (Tabebuia impetiginosa) + Urochloa decumbens (iPF1); ii) Gliricídia (Gliricidia sepium) + Urochloa decumbens (iPF2); iii) Sabiá (Mimosa caesalpiniifolia) + Urochloa decumbens (iPF3); iv) Milho (Zea mays) + Urochloa decumbens (iLP); v) Urochloa decumbens (Pastagem). Os dados submetidos a análise de variância e teste de Tukey (p<0,05) demonstraram que a integração Lavoura-Pecuária-Floresta, após o período de quatro anos, ainda não promoveu melhoria física significativa dos atributos físicos do Planossolo em estudo, porém, o índice S apresentou valores satisfatórios. Em relação a condição antecedente a implantação dos sistemas, verifica-se uma alteração positiva na estrutura, refletindo na redução da densidade do solo e aumento da porosidade total.

ABSTRACT The soils of the Brazilian semi-arid are under a constant process of degradation and sustainable agricultural production strategies must be adopted in order to alleviate this problem. Therefore, the objective of this work was to evaluate the physical-water behavior of an Albaqualfs four years after the implantation of crop-livestock-forest integration systems in the Brazilian semiarid. The experiment was installed in the county of Alagoinha, PB, in an Albaqualfs with a sandy-loam texture. Five integration systems in randomized block design (DBC) with four replications were evaluated: i) Purple Ipe (Tabebuia impetiginosa) + Brachiaria decumbens (iPF1); ii) Gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium) + Urochloa decumbens (iPF2); iii) Sabiá (Mimosa caesalpiniifolia) + Urochloa decumbens (iPF3); iv) Maize (Zea mays) + Urochloa decumbens (iLP); v) Urochloa decumbens (pasture). The data submitted to analysis of variance and Tukey's test (p<0.05) demonstrated that the crop-livestock-forest integrated system, after the period of four years, has not yet promoted significant physical improvement of the attributes of the Albaqualfs under study, however, an attribute such as the S index, presented satisfactory values. Regarding the condition prior to the implantation of the systems, there is a positive change in the structure, reflecting in the reduction of the bulk density of the soil and an increase in the total porosity.

Resumo Fundamento: O uso de estatinas destaca-se como a terapia mais frequentemente utilizada para o tratamento de dislipidemias e pode ser considerado a intervenção farmacológica mais eficiente para a redução da lipoproteína de baixa densidade (LDL). Por outro lado, o treinamento físico pode ser considerado uma estratégia não farmacológica eficiente e segura para promover melhorias no perfil lipídico. No entanto, não se sabe qual seria a influência das estatinas nas adaptações lipídicas decorrentes do treinamento aquático em populações com dislipidemia. Objetivos: Analisar a influência do uso de sinvastatina nas adaptações lipídicas decorrentes do treinamento aeróbico em meio aquático e de resistência em mulheres idosas com dislipidemia. Métodos: Sessenta e nove mulheres idosas (66,13 ± 5,13 anos), sedentárias e dislipidêmicas, tanto não usuárias quanto usuárias de sinvastatina (20 mg e 40 mg), foram randomizadas nos 3 grupos seguintes: treinamento aeróbico em meio aquático (WA), treinamento de força em meio aquático (WR) e grupo controle (GC). A duração total das intervenções, para todos os grupos experimentais, foi de 10 semanas, com 2 sessões semanais. As análises bioquímicas foram realizadas antes do início das intervenções e repetidas após o final do ensaio. Foram utilizadas equações de estimativa generalizada para comparar esses dados, estabelecendo α = 0,05. Resultados: Na análise por intenção de tratar, as participantes medicadas demonstraram uma redução de magnitude maior do colesterol total (CT) (−3,41 a −25,89 mg.dl−1; p = 0,038), LDL (−5,58 a −25,18 mg.dl−1; p = 0,007) e da relação CT/HDL (−0,37 a −0,61; p = 0,022) quando comparadas às participantes não medicadas, essa redução sendo estatisticamente significativa apenas no grupo WR. Conclusões: O uso de estatina incrementa as adaptações promovidas pelo treinamento físico aquático no CT, nos níveis de LDL e na relação CT/HDL, sendo mais pronunciado após WR.

Abstract Background: Statin use is highlighted as the most commonly utilized therapy for the treatment of dyslipidemias and can be considered as the most efficient pharmacological intervention for low-density lipoprotein (LDL) reduction. On the other hand, physical training can be considered an efficient and safe non-pharmacological strategy to promote improvements in lipid profile. However, the influence of statins on lipid adaptations arising from water-based training in populations with dyslipidemia is not known. Objectives: To analyze the influence of simvastatin use on lipid adaptations arising from water-based aerobics and resistance training in elderly women with dyslipidemia. Methods: Sixty-nine elderly (66.13 ± 5.13 years), sedentary, and dyslipidemic women, both non-users and users of simvastatin (20 mg and 40 mg), were randomized into the following 3 groups: water-based aerobic training (WA), water-based resistance training (WR), and control group (CG). Total duration of interventions, for all experimental groups consisted of 10 weeks, with 2 weekly sessions. Biochemical analyses were performed before the beginning of the interventions and repeated after the end of the trial. Generalized estimating equations were used to compare these data, setting α = 0.05. Results: In intention-to-treat analysis, the medicated participants obtained a greater magnitude of decrease in total cholesterol (TC) (−3.41 to −25.89 mg.dl−1; p = 0.038), LDL (−5.58 to −25.18 mg.dl−1; p = 0.007) and TC/HDL ratio (−0.37 to −0.61; p = 0.022) when compared to the non-medicated participants, and this decrease was statistically significant only in the WR group. Conclusions: Statin use enhances the adaptations promoted by water-based physical training in CT, LDL levels, and CT/HDL ratio, and it is more pronounced after WR.
