Lantana caatingensis Moldenke (Verbenaceae) is an endemic plant from northeastern Brazil. However, its chemical composition is almost unknown. This study aimed to characterize the chemical compounds found in L. caatingensis and investigate the antileishmanial potential of its hydroalcoholic extract and polar fractions. Compounds present in the hydroalcoholic extract obtained from L. caatingensis leaves and its polar fractions (ethyl acetate and methanolic) were analyzed by liquid chromatography with a photodiode-array detector coupled to electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. An antileishmanial assay was performed in a 96-well plate against Leishmania major promastigotes using resazurin on a plate spectrophotometer and the results were expressed as percentage of growth inhibition. Nine compounds were determined in the investigated extract and fractions, classified as flavonoids, flavonoid C-glycosides and phenylethanoid glycosides. The antileishmanial activity revealed that the hydroalcoholic extract and the ethyl acetate fraction were active against L. major promastigotes with inhibitory concentration of 71.78 and 26.86 µg mL-1, respectively, while the methanolic fraction was inactive (478.40 µg mL-1). This is the first report on the chemical composition and antileishmanial activity of L. caatingensis extracts. These results contribute to further knowledge of species belonging to the Lantana genus. Resumo No Brasil, redes de apoio colaborativas têm sido estruturadas para conduzir o processo de reconhecimento de Indicação Geográfica (IG), junto ao Instituto Nacional de Propriedade Industrial. O objetivo do presente trabalho foi delinear uma revisão de literatura sobre o processo de implementação e a governança da IG no país para melhor compreensão deste cenário. A metodologia foi baseada em pesquisas nos periódicos da Comissão de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal do Nível Superior e em bases de dados gratuitas como Google Acadêmico, com critérios de inclusão e exclusão para seleção das publicações. Das 109 publicações encontradas, 22 foram criteriosamente selecionadas para análise sob a ótica da dinâmica dos processos de implementação e governança de IG no Brasil. Abstract In Brazil, collaborative support networks have been structured to conduct the process of recognition of Geographical Indication (GI) together with the National Institute of Industrial Property. The objective of the present work was to outline a literature review on the implementation process and governance of GIs in the country for a better understanding of this scenario. The methodology was based on research in the journals of the Higher Education Personnel Improvement Commission and free databases such as Google Scholar, with inclusion and exclusion criteria for selecting publications. Of the 109 publications found, 22 were carefully selected for analysis from the perspective of the dynamics of GI implementation and governance processes in Brazil. It was observed that the collaborative networks to conduct the GI implementation and governance processes were structured with different dynamics in each territory, resulting from efforts and coordination carried out by different Brazilian institutions.

Resumen En Brasil, se han estructurado redes de apoyo colaborativo para realizar el proceso de reconocimiento de la Indicación Geográfica (IG), junto con el Instituto Nacional de Propiedad Industrial. El objetivo del presente trabajo fue esbozar una revisión bibliográfica sobre el proceso de implementación y gobernanza de las IG en el país para una mejor comprensión de este escenario. La metodología se basó en investigaciones en las revistas de la Comisión de Mejoramiento del Personal de Educación Superior y en bases de datos gratuitas como Google Scholar, con criterios de inclusión y exclusión para la selección de publicaciones. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE The transgender population in Brazil faces marginalization and difficulties in accessing education and health, leading many individuals to self-medicate. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the implementation of Specialized Centers in the Transsexualizing Process (SCTP) on the use of cross-sex hormone therapy (CSHT) without medical prescription, as well as the level of education and mental health profile of these individuals. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study with data from physical and electronic medical records between September 2017 and February 2023 regarding the use of CSHT before and after the implementation of two SCTP in the state of Bahia, Brazil, in addition to data on education level, previous diagnosis of anxiety and depression of patients. RESULTS A total of 219 participants, 127 transgender men (TM) and 92 transgender women and travestis (TrTW), were assessed. A significant reduction in the prevalence of self-medication was observed in both TrTW (92.98% before and 51.43% after, p<0.001), and TM (47.17% before and 25.67% after, p = 0.010) with the implementation of SCTP. Transgender individuals who used CSHT before accessing the service were found to have a lower prevalence of depression. Self-medication was not significantly associated with education or anxiety in our sample. CONCLUSION The results indicate the need for the expansion of SCTP, as they were associated with lower rates of self-medication in the transgender population.

RESUMO JUSTIFICATIVA E OBJETIVOS: A dor pélvica crônica (DPC) é uma condição comum em mulheres e frequentemente há comorbidades associadas. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar a prevalência de comorbidades em pacientes de DPC e buscar associações entre comorbidades e as manifestações da dor crônica. MÉTODOS: Estudo observacional de caso-controle com informações sociodemográficas, comportamentais e clínicas, incluindo comorbidades, em 246 mulheres, sendo 123 com DPC e 123 sem DPC (grupo controle). RESULTADOS: Ansiedade, depressão, enxaqueca e endometriose foram as comorbidades mais frequentes em mulheres com DPC. As comorbidades avaliadas no grupo com DPC não se associaram com o escore de intensidade da dor, com história de aborto, de violência física nem de violência sexual (p>0,05). No grupo de mulheres com DPC e endometriose, a mediana do escore de ansiedade e de depressão foi significativamente menor do que no grupo sem endometriose (14,5; IC 95%: 11,0-14,9) versus (17,0; IC 95%: 14,6-16,7), p=0,012 e (13,0; IC 95%: 11,1-15,9) versus (16,5; IC 95%: 14,5-17,6), p=0,045, respectivamente. Em pacientes com enxaqueca, a mediana do escore de depressão foi maior no grupo de mulheres com DPC em relação ao grupo sem DPC (15,0; IC 95%: 14,1-17,8) versus (10,0; IC 95%: 8,5-12,4), p=0,048. CONCLUSÃO: As comorbidades mais prevalentes em mulheres com DPC foram transtornos mentais, enxaqueca e endometriose. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Chronic pelvic pain (CPP) is a common condition in women and there are often associated comorbidities. The objective of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of comorbidities in patients with CPP and to seek associations between comorbidities and the manifestations of chronic pain. METHODS: Observational case-control study with sociodemographic, behavioral and clinical information, including comorbidities, in 246 women, 123 with CPP and 123 without CPP (control group). RESULTS: Anxiety, depression, migraine and endometriosis were the most frequent comorbidities in women with CPP. The comorbidities assessed in the CPP group were not associated with pain intensity score, history of abortion, physical violence or sexual violence (p>0.05). Abstract Objective To develop a mobile application with a standardized routine, to be used by general otolaryngologists for evaluating patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. Methods A systematic review was made to identify outcomes, recommendations and what tests that would be used in the routine evaluation of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis; establish an expert consensus on items to be included in this routine evaluation of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis using the Delphi method; development of an application for use on a mobile device, with the routine evaluation of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis. Results Based on the systematic review, the outcomes used in studies about chronic rhinosinusitis were identified, as well as guidelines recommendations, which showed discrepancies between them. These recommendations and outcomes were presented to specialists in chronic rhinosinusitis, until a consensus was reached. As a result of the Delphi method, the flowchart of the routine evaluation of patients with chronic rhinosinusitis was defined, and then was used for the development of the mobile application. Conclusion The creation of the mobile application for evaluating patients with chronic rhinosinusitis followed an adequate methodology of elaboration made by specialists in the field of chronic rhinosinusitis, standardizing the investigation of these patients. ABSTRACT High-sugar dehydrated foods have strong hygroscopicity, which can be avoided by using drying aids. One way to assess the hygroscopic behavior is through sorption isotherms. The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of maltodextrin concentration on sorption isotherms of powdered cajá-manga pulp in spray-dryer, lyophilization and fluidized bed spray drying processes. The dryings were carried out in a spray-dryer, lyophilizer and fluidized bed, with 10%, 20% and 30% of maltodextrin. Adsorption isotherms were determined by the static gravimetric method using salt solutions for a relative humidity range of 21% to 90%. The GAB, BET, Henderson, and Oswin models were adequate to the experimental data. The relative deviation between the experimental values and the estimated values was calculated for each curve, in order to assess which equation best fit the experimental data. The mean relative error value of less than 10% was considered one of the criteria for selecting the models. The BET (A), BET (B) and GAB (C) models had the lowest error means, 3.35%, 3.35% and 5.28%, for cajá-manga powders obtained by spray-dryer, lyophilization and fluidized bed spray drying processes, respectively, and coefficients of determination above 0.99. Abstract Thiosemicarbazones are promising classes of compounds with antitumor activity. For this study, six 2,4-dihydroxy-benzylidene-thiosemicarbazones compounds were synthesized. These compounds were submitted to different assays in silico, in vitro and in vivo to evaluate the toxicological, antioxidant and antitumor effects. The in silico results were evaluated by the SwissADME and pkCSM platforms and showed that all compounds had good oral bioavailability profiles. The in vitro and in vivo toxicity assays showed that the compounds showed low cytotoxicity against different normal cells and did not promote hemolytic effects. The single dose acute toxicity test (2000 mg/kg) showed that none of the compounds were toxic to mice. In in vitro antioxidant activity assays, the compounds showed moderate to low activity, with PB17 standing out for the ABTS radical capture assay. The in vivo antioxidant activity highlighted the compounds 1, 6 and 8 that promoted a significant increase in the concentration of liver antioxidant enzymes. Finally, all compounds showed promising antitumor activity against different cell lines, especially MCF-7 and DU145 lines, in addition, they inhibited the growth of sarcoma 180 at concentrations lower than 50 mg/kg. Objective: To report on suicide plans and attempts among Brazilian physicians and to investigate the associated risk factors. Methods: From January 2018 to January 2019, a nationwide online survey was conducted among Brazilian physicians using the Tool for Assessment of Suicide Risk and the Satisfaction with Life Scale. Multivariate exploratory associations of demographic, psychological, and work-related factors were performed on reports of suicide plans and attempts. Results: Of the 4,148 participants, 1,946 (53.5%) were male, 2,527 (60.9%) were 30 to 60 years old, 2,675 (64.5%) had two to four jobs, and 1,725 (41.6%) worked 40 to 60 hours a week. The overall prevalence of suicide plans was 8.8% (n=364), and suicide attempts were reported by 3.2% (n=133) of participants. Daily emotional exhaustion (ORadj = 7.857; 95%CI 2.282-27.051, p = 0.002), weekly emotional exhaustion (ORadj = 7.953; 95%CI 2.403-26.324, p = 0.001), daily frustration at work (ORadj = 3.093; 95%CI 1.711-5.588, p < 0.001), and bisexuality (ORadj = 5.083; 95%CI 2.544-10.158, p < 0.001) were significantly associated with higher odds of suicide. ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE The transgender population in Brazil faces marginalization and difficulties in accessing education and health, leading many individuals to self-medicate. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of the implementation of Specialized Centers in the Transsexualizing Process (SCTP) on the use of cross-sex hormone therapy (CSHT) without medical prescription, as well as the level of education and mental health profile of these individuals. METHODS This is a cross-sectional study with data from physical and electronic medical records between September 2017 and February 2023 regarding the use of CSHT before and after the implementation of two SCTP in the state of Bahia, Brazil, in addition to data on education level, previous diagnosis of anxiety and depression of patients. RESULTS A total of 219 participants, 127 transgender men (TM) and 92 transgender women and travestis (TrTW), were assessed. A significant reduction in the prevalence of self-medication was observed in both TrTW (92.98% before and 51.43% after, p<0.001), and TM (47.17% before and 25.67% after, p = 0.010) with the implementation of SCTP. Transgender individuals who used CSHT before accessing the service were found to have a lower prevalence of depression. Self-medication was not significantly associated with education or anxiety in our sample. Resumo Objetivo Comparar os sintomas de estresse e as estratégias de enfrentamento de cuidadores de pessoas idosas com Doença de Alzheimer em razão das variáveis sociodemográficas, de saúde e de atuação profissional. Método Pesquisa transversal realizada com 126 cuidadores de pessoas idosas com Doença de Alzheimer. Foi utilizado um questionário para avaliação do perfil sociodemográfico e de saúde do cuidador, a Escala de Estresse Percebido e Escala de Modos de Enfrentamento de Problemas. A análise de dados foi realizada pelos testes t de Student independente, Anova One-way e Post-Hoc de Tukey (p<0,05). Resultados As mulheres utilizam mais a estratégia de enfrentamento de busca de suporte social (p=0,013). Os cuidadores que cuidam de mais de uma pessoa idosa utilizam mais a estratégia de enfrentamento focada no problema (p=0,020). Cuidadores que realizam cuidado formal apresentaram maior estresse (p=0,015) e utilizam menos a estratégia focada no problema (p=0,020). Abstract Objective To compare stress symptoms and coping strategies among caregivers of older adults with Alzheimer's disease according to sociodemographic, health, and professional variables. Method A cross-sectional study was conducted of 126 caregivers of older adults with Alzheimer's disease. A questionnaire assessing caregiver sociodemographic and health profiles, the Perceived Stress Scale, and the Ways of Coping Scale were applied. Data analysis was performed using the independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Tukey's post-hoc test (p<0.05). Results Women made greater use of the coping strategy of seeking social support (p=0.013). Caregivers with more than one care recipient made greater use of problem-focused coping strategies (p=0.020). Caregivers engaged in formal care exhibited higher levels of stress (p=0.015) and made less use of problem-focused coping strategies (p=0.020).
