Lantana caatingensis Moldenke (Verbenaceae) is an endemic plant from northeastern Brazil. However, its chemical composition is almost unknown. This study aimed to characterize the chemical compounds found in L. caatingensis and investigate the antileishmanial potential of its hydroalcoholic extract and polar fractions. Compounds present in the hydroalcoholic extract obtained from L. caatingensis leaves and its polar fractions (ethyl acetate and methanolic) were analyzed by liquid chromatography with a photodiode-array detector coupled to electrospray ionization quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry. An antileishmanial assay was performed in a 96-well plate against Leishmania major promastigotes using resazurin on a plate spectrophotometer and the results were expressed as percentage of growth inhibition. Nine compounds were determined in the investigated extract and fractions, classified as flavonoids, flavonoid C-glycosides and phenylethanoid glycosides. The antileishmanial activity revealed that the hydroalcoholic extract and the ethyl acetate fraction were active against L. major promastigotes with inhibitory concentration of 71.78 and 26.86 µg mL-1, respectively, while the methanolic fraction was inactive (478.40 µg mL-1). This is the first report on the chemical composition and antileishmanial activity of L. caatingensis extracts. These results contribute to further knowledge of species belonging to the Lantana genus. RESUMO: A mastite bovina é a doença mais impactante na indústria de laticínios e é caracterizada por uma complexidade de agentes causais, os quais têm revelado uma variação geográfica entre regiões e países. Os patógenos relacionados à mastite têm sido tradicionalmente classificados como contagiosos ou ambientais, com base na fonte de infecção ou origem e nas vias de transmissão. Além disso, a gravidade das infecções mamárias tem sido associada à virulência dos patógenos, e ao estado imunológico e nutricional dos animais. Considerando esse cenário, investigamos os agentes etiológicos, os escores de gravidade clínica e os dados de dias em lactação (DEL) em 4.273 casos clínicos de mastite bovina em dez fazendas de grande porte, quatro localizadas no sudoeste do estado de São Paulo e seis no sul do Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Streptococcus dysgalactiae (283/4.273 = 6,6%), Escherichia coli (190/4.273 = 4,4%), Prototheca spp. (112/4.273 = 2,6%) e Streptococcus uberis (95/4.273 = 2,2%) foram os patógenos predominantes isolados. ABSTRACT: Bovine mastitis is the most impacting disease of dairy industry, and it is characterized by a complexity of causal agents, which have revealed a geographical variation among regions and countries. The mastitis-related pathogens have been traditionally classified as contagious or environmental, based on habits of the microorganisms and transmission routes. Besides, the severity of mammary infections has been associated with the virulence of the pathogens, and immune and nutritional status of the hosts. Considering this scenario, we investigated the etiological pattern, clinical severity scores, and days in milk (DIM) data in 4,273 clinical cases of bovine mastitis among ten large-dairy farms located in Brazil. Streptococcus dysgalactiae (283/4,273 = 6.6%), Escherichia coli (190/4,273 = 4.4%), Prototheca spp. (112/4,273 = 2.6%), and Streptococcus uberis (95/4,273 = 2.2%) were the predominant pathogens isolated. Among 4,273 clinical cases, clinical severity score was available in 43.8% (1,871/4,273) animals. From these, 69.8% (1,306/1,871), 27.3% (510/1,871), and 2.9% (55/1,871) were scored as mild, moderate, and severe, respectively. Pathogens were observed mainly in samples obtained during the first 100 days in milk, and clinical severity scored mainly as mild. Our results contributed to the etiological identification, clinical severity scoring, and milking aspects of mastitic cows in dairy farms with a history of clinical mammary infections. ABSTRACT In January 2022 and April 2024, plants of Handroanthus heptaphyllus, designated HP22 and HP24, respectively, exhibiing symptoms of mosaic, leaf blistering, and ring spots were observed in the municipality of Piracicaba, São Paulo state, Brazil. Molecular analysis of plant HP22 revealed the presence of cucumber mosaic virus (CMV, genus Cucumovirus), and phylogenetic analysis classified it into subgroup IA. Additionally, CMV was identified using a plate-trapped antigen enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (PTA-ELISA) in both plants (HP22 and HP24). The virus of HP22 plant was mechanically transmitted to Handroanthus albus, H. heptaphyllus, H. impetiginosus, Tabebuia heptaphylla, and T. roseoalba plants, a transmission that PTA-ELISA confirmed. Furthermore, transmission was observed from Aphis gossypii to H. heptaphyllus and T. heptaphylla plants. Despite the absence of discernible symptoms, the presence of CMV was confirmed through PTA-ELISA. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The Kerlan-Jobe Orthopedic Clinic (KJOC) Shoulder and Elbow Score is commonly used to assess the functional status of athletes with conditions affecting the shoulder and elbow. However, a Brazilian Portuguese version of the KJOC questionnaire is currently unavailable. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to develop a Brazilian Portuguese version of the KJOC questionnaire. DESIGN AND SETTING: This translation and cultural adaptation study was conducted at the Federal University of Paraíba, Brazil. METHODS: The procedures adopted in this study followed guidelines recommending translation by two independent translators, synthesis of the translations, back-translation performed by two native English-speaking translators, analysis by an expert committee, and pre-testing. The Portuguese version was tested with 32 athletes to assess their understanding of the assessment tool. Items were deemed adequate if they were understood by at least 90% of the athletes. RESULTS: The terms and expressions of some original items were modified to achieve better comprehensibility in the Brazilian context. No further modifications were necessary after the pre-test; all terms were comprehensible to over 90% of athletes. CONCLUSION: The translation and cultural adaptation of the KJOC questionnaire into Portuguese were completed, resulting in a Brazilian version of the scale. Further studies are needed to evaluate the reliability and validity of this scale. Abstract In order to understand how mainstream media companies utilise fact-checking services, this paper investigates the following research question: to what extent did the Brazilian agencies Estadão Verifica and Fato ou Fake endeavour to reinforce their epistemic authority through fact-checking during the administrations of Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2023-present)? For this examination, all texts published by the two agencies that mentioned Jair Bolsonaro in their titles between January and May 2022 and Lula between January and May 2023 were collected. The corpus consisted of 119 checks (95 from Estadão Verifica and 24 from Fato ou Fake) and was subjected to content analysis. The data indicates that the agencies’ coverage focused on similar issues during the two administrations, with more than half of the publications refuting rumours detrimental to Lula. The results also reveal that the fact-checking process prioritises journalism’s own sources. In other words, Estadão Verifica and Fato ou Fake primarily relied on their own material or that of other mainstream media companies to verify the selected stories - this approach suggests limits to the transparency of the investigation, since much of the information used has already undergone editorial filtering, which is not always clear to the public.

Resumo Com o objetivo de compreender de que modo empresas de comunicação mainstream mobilizam o serviço de verificação de fatos, este trabalho investiga a seguinte questão de pesquisa: em que medida as agências brasileiras Estadão Verifica e Fato ou Fake buscam reforçar sua autoridade epistêmica por meio da checagem de fatos ao longo dos Governos de Jair Bolsonaro (2019-2022) e Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (2023-presente)? Para isso, foram coletados todos os textos publicados pelas duas agências que, em seus títulos, mencionaram Jair Bolsonaro, entre janeiro e maio de 2022, e Lula, entre janeiro e maio de 2023. O corpus compreende 119 checagens (95 do Estadão Verifica e 24 do Fato ou Fake) e foi submetido à análise de conteúdo. Os dados indicam que as coberturas das agências se concentraram em assuntos semelhantes durante os dois Governos - sendo que mais de metade das publicações desmentiu boatos prejudiciais a Lula. Os resultados revelam, ainda, que o processo de verificação de fatos dá ênfase a fontes do próprio jornalismo. Isto é, o Estadão Verifica e o Fato ou Fake mobilizaram materiais próprios ou de outras empresas de comunicação mainstream a fim de checar as histórias selecionadas - o que sugere limites à transparência da apuração, uma vez que muitas das informações utilizadas já passaram, anteriormente, por filtros editoriais, nem sempre claros ao público.

Resumo A partir dos processos de diminuição da vegetação e aumento de materiais mais condutivos ao calor há a formação de ilhas de calor de superfície (SUHI, do inglês Surface Urban Heat Island). Com o intuito de investigar o fenômeno, o objetivo deste trabalho é verificar comparativamente a temperatura de superfície (LST, do inglês Land Surface Temperature) e indicadores geoespaciais para análise da variação ambiental na cidade de São Paulo, Brasil. O método do estudo é sensoriamento remoto, com dados provenientes do satélite Landsat 8 em um recorte temporal de dez anos. As variáveis são a cobertura do solo, o Índice de Vegetação por Diferença Normalizada (NVDI, do inglês Normalized Difference Vegetation Index), o Índice de Diferença Normalizada de Áreas Construídas (NDBI, do inglês Normalized Difference Built-up Index) e o LST, obtendo em decorrência o Índice de Variação do Campo Térmico Urbano (UTFVI, do inglês Urban Thermal Field Variation Index) e estimando a formação de SUHI. A partir dos resultados apresentou-se uma progressão das variáveis, destacando a formação recorrente de SUHI na região central e zona leste de São Paulo, Brasil. Abstract Surface Urban Heat Islands (SUHI) are formed through processes that include decreasing vegetation and increasing materials that are more conductive to heat. To investigate this phenomenon, the objective of this work is to comparatively verify the surface temperature and geospatial indicators to analyze environmental variation in the city of São Paulo, Brazil. The study method is remote sensing, with data from the Landsat 8 satellite over a ten-year timeframe. The variables include land cover, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), the Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI), and land surface temperature (LST), thereby obtaining the Urban Thermal Field Variation Index (UTFVI) and estimating SUHI formation. The results allowed for the presentation of a progression of variables, highlighting the recurrent formation of SUHI in the central and eastern regions of the city of São Paulo, Brazil. Abstract Objective This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of autism spectrum disorder and its possible correlations with clinical characteristics in patients with infantile epileptic spasms syndrome in a single center in Brazil. Methods This retrospective cross-sectional study examined 53 children with the diagnosis of infantile epileptic spasms syndrome prior to an autism spectrum disorder assessment. Participants were divided into two groups based on the presence or absence of autism spectrum disorder. Available variables (sex, medications, median age at onset of infantile epileptic spasms syndrome, and presence of comorbidities) were compared using Mann-Whitney U or chi-square tests. Results Among the included patients, 12 (23 %) were diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, corresponding to a relative risk of 0.29 (95 % confidence interval 0.174-0.492). The age at the first seizure ranged from 3 to 15 months, with a mean of 6.65 months. This age significantly differed between participants with autism spectrum disorder (10.58 months) and those without (5.43 months), p<0.001. Conclusion Children with infantile epileptic spasms syndrome have a higher risk of being diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. SUMMARY: The anatomical structure of wood from tree species found in floodplain forests can undergo alterations due to seasonal fluctuations in water levels, potentially affecting the volume of wood available for sustainable forest management in inundated areas. Thus, this study aims to characterize the anatomical features of Hura crepitans, Ocotea cymbarum and Eschweilera albiflora, assessing whether these characteristics differ from descriptions reported in previous studies of the same species conducted in other environments. Samples were collected from six adult trees of each species in two sustainable development reserves (SDR), Mamirauá and Amanã, located in the middle Solimões region, state of Amazonas, using a non-destructive method with an increment borer. Two samples were collected from three different heights (0.30, 1.30, and 2.30 m). Microscopic descriptions of the species were determined (porosity, axial parenchyma, rays, fibers, and vessel elements). Two-way factorial ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test was used to verify the differences in the anatomical elements of the wood samples collected at the three heights. The wood of H. crepitans has diffuse porosity, a predominance of solitary vessels, diffuse-in-aggregates, scarce axial parenchyma, non-storied rays, and libriform fibers. The wood of O. cymbarum has solitary vessels in radial multiples, vasicentric axial parenchyma, non-storied rays, and septate fibers. E. albiflora has a radial grouping of vessels, banded parenchyma, and non-storied rays. This study confirms previous descriptions of this species, revealing that its anatomical characteristics remain constant throughout the trunk.

RESUMEN: La estructura anatómica de la madera de las especies de árboles que se encuentran en los bosques de llanuras aluviales puede sufrir alteraciones debido a las fluctuaciones estacionales en los niveles de agua, afectando potencialmente el volumen de madera disponible para el manejo forestal sostenible de las áreas inundadas. Así, este estudio tiene como objetivo caracterizar las características anatómicas de Hura crepitans, Ocotea cymbarum y Eschweilera albiflora, evaluando si estas características difieren de las descripciones reportadas en estudios previos de las mismas especies realizados en otros ambientes. Se recolectaron muestras de seis árboles adultos de cada especie en dos reservas de desarrollo sustentable (RDS), Mamirauá y Amanã, ubicadas en la región media de Solimões, estado de Amazonas, utilizando un método no destructivo con barrenador incremental. Se tomaron dos muestras en cada una de tres alturas diferentes (0,30, 1,30 y 2,30 m). Se determinaron descripciones microscópicas de las especies (porosidad, parénquima axial, radios, fibras y elementos de los vasos). Se utilizó ANOVA factorial de dos vías seguido de la prueba post hoc de Tukey para verificar las diferencias en los elementos anatómicos de las muestras de madera recolectadas en las tres alturas. La madera de H. crepitans tiene porosidad difusa, predominio de vasos solitarios, difusos en agregados y escaso parénquima axial, radios no estratificados y fibras libriformes. La madera de O. cymbarum tiene vasos solitarios en múltiplos radiales, parénquima axial vasicéntrico, radios sin pisos y fibras septadas. La madera de E. albiflora tiene agrupaciones radiales de vasos, parénquima bandeado y radios sin pisos. Este estudio confirma descripciones previas de la especie, revelando que las características anatómicas permanecen sustancialmente constantes en todo el tronco.

Resumen El uso de toxina botulínica (BTX) representa un enfoque eficaz y seguro para el tratamiento de las sonrisas gingivales, reduciendo la exposición excesiva de las encías durante la sonrisa. Este procedimiento mínimamente invasivo puede producir resultados estéticos notables y contribuir a aumentar la confianza del paciente en sí mismo. El objetivo de este estudio es presentar el caso clínico de una paciente que se sometió a un tratamiento para corregir una sonrisa gingival. Se trata de una paciente de 21 años con una exposición gingival excesiva (5mm al sonreír) que solicitó tratamiento odontológico. El origen de su sonrisa gingival era mixto y el tratamiento consistió en la aplicación de 6 unidades de BTX tipo A en tres puntos concretos de la cara. No se observaron complicaciones durante los tres meses de seguimiento. Basándonos en el informe del caso, se puede concluir que la aplicación de BTX para el tratamiento de la sonrisa gingival demostró ser eficaz, segura y cómoda en términos de recuperación. El enfoque de BTX para la corrección de la sonrisa gingival se considera seguro y de fácil recuperación, y produce resultados satisfactorios que contribuyen a mejorar la estética y el bienestar del paciente.

Abstract The use of botulinum toxin (BTX) represents an effective and safe approach in treating the gummy smile, reducing excessive gum exposure during smiling. This minimally invasive procedure can yield remarkable aesthetic results and contribute to an increase in the patient's self-confidence. The aim of this study is to report a clinical case of a female patient undergoing treatment to correct a gummy smile. The case study involves a 21-year-old patient with excessive gum exposure (5mm when smiling) who sought dental treatment. The origin of her gummy smile was mixed, and the treatment involved the application of 6 units of BTX type A at three specific points on the face. No complications were observed during the three-month follow-up period. Based on the case report, it can be concluded that BTX application for gummy smile treatment proved to be effective, safe, and comfortable in terms of recovery. The BTX approach to correcting a gummy smile is considered safe and entails straightforward recovery, producing satisfactory results that contribute to the improvement of aesthetics and the patient's well-being.

Abstract Traditional post-fire forest management can influence future vegetation composition and recovery of a burned area. The present study, integrated in SUDOE-REMAS project (SOE3/P4/E0954) and Curricular Unit Silviculture II (Instituto Superior de Agronomia, Universidade de Lisboa), evaluated the effect of forest management on the diversity of post-fire vegetation in the cork oak forest from Serra do Caldeirão (Algarve, Portugal). Climate is classified as Csa and most of soils are Leptosols. We selected three types of cork oak plots: unburned (A), burned with post-fire management (B) and burned with post-fire abandonment (C). Floristic inventories were carried out through transects (15 transects per group and each one with 10 m of length ) to determine species abundance and diversity. Hill series diversity indices were estimated for the individuals inventoried. The results indicated that plots C present greater diversity in all Hill Series indices. Plots A presented greater diversity when compared to B. The species Lavandula stoechas ssp. luisieri Rozeira was the dominant in the 3 groups (19% in plots A, 17% in B and 19% in C). In the burned plots (B+C), Cistus ladanifer L. represented 14% of the total individuals, with or without management. In the unburned plots (A), Ulex argenteus Welw. ex Webb representes 17% of the individuals present. There’s a greater presence of pyrophytic species (genera Cistus and Ulex) in burned plots, with or without management. Fire is favourable to species diversity but not to their resistance to new fires. Nevertheless, management of herbaceous flora in burned plots seems to positively influence vegetation composition and diversity.

Resumo A gestão florestal tradicional pós-fogo pode influenciar a vegetação futura do local e a recuperação da área ardida. O presente estudo, integrado no projeto SUDOE-REMAS (SOE3/P4/E0954) e na Unidade Curricular de Silvicultura II ministrada no Instituto Superior de Agronomia da Universidade de Lisboa, avaliou o efeito da gestão florestal na diversidade da vegetação pós-fogo no sobreiral da Serra do Caldeirão (Algarve, S de Portugal). A maioria dos solos são classificados como Leptossolos e o clima é do tipo Cs. Selecionaram-se parcelas de 3 tipos: não ardidas com gestão pós-fogo (A), ardidas com gestão pós-fogo (B) e ardidas sem gestão pós-fogo (C). Efetuaram-se inventários florísticos através de transeptos (15 transeptos por tipologia), com 10 m de comprimento cada, para avaliação da abundância e diversidade de espécies. Estimaram-se os índices de diversidade da série de Hill para os indivíduos inventariados. Os resultados indicaram que as parcelas do tipo C apresentam maior diversidade em todos os índices da Série de Hill. As parcelas A apresentaram maior diversidade quando comparadas com as parcelas B. A espécie Lavandula stoechas ssp. luisieri Rozeira é a espécie dominante nos 3 grupos (19% in plots A, 17% in B and 19% in C). Nas parcelas ardidas (B+C), Cistus ladanifer L. representa 14% dos indivíduos presentes, com ou sem gestão. Verificou-se maior presença de espécies pirófitas (géneros Cistus e Ulex) nas parcelas ardidas, com ou sem gestão. Este estudo aponta que o fogo pode favorecer a diversidade de espécies mas não a resistência das mesmas a novos fogos. Ainda assim, a gestão da flora herbácea nas parcelas ardidas parece influenciar positivamente a composição e diversidade.

RESUMO Os disturbios de linguagem podem interferir na integrando social e afetar o desenvolvimento dos individuos. O trabalho multidisciplinar entre fonoaudiologia e odontologia é muito importante para a promogdo da saúde. O equilibrio do sistema estomatognático interfere na linguagem. Objetivo Analisar os100 artigos mais citados sobre distúrbios de linguagem em criannas e adolescentes e verificar a interando com a odontologia por meio de análise bibliométrica. Material e Método Foi realizada uma busca pelos 100 artigos mais citados sobre distúrbios de linguagem na base de dados Web of Science Core Collection até dezembro de 2021. Quatro pesquisadores extrairam os dados referentes a número de citanoes, titulo, autores, país, ano de publicando, periódicos, desenho de estudo, condinoes clínicas prevalentes e área de especializando. As análises foram realizadas utilizando VOSviewer e Excel. Resultados O número total de citanoes variou de 251 a 1.431. Quatro artigos foram citados mais de 1.000 vezes. Bishop DVM (10 artigos; 3.653 citanoes) e Tomblin JD (10 artigos; 4.261 citanoes) foram os autores mais frequentemente citados. As instituinoes com maior número de publicanoes foram a Universidade de Oxford/Inglaterra (11%) e a Universidade de Kansas/EUA (8%). O desenho de estudo observacional foi o mais frequente (77%). O transtorno do espectro autista (18%) e a dislexia (14%) foram as condinoes clínicas mais amplamente investigadas. A Fonoaudiologia (32%) foi a área de atuando com maior número de artigos e nenhum estudo, entre os top100, mostrou interando com a Odontologia. Conclusao Os 100 artigos mais citados sobre distúrbios de linguagem sdo em sua maioria observacionais, abordam principalmente transtornos do espectro do autismo e estdo na área de fonoaudiologia. Nenhum estudo apresentou interando com a odontologia.

Materials and Method A search of the 100 most frequently cited articles up to December 2021 on language disorders was performed in the Web of Science Core Collection database. Four researchers extracted the data on number of citations, title, authors, country, year of publication, journals, study design, prevalent clinical conditions, and area of expertise. The analyses were performed using VOSviewer and Excel. Results The total number of citations ranged from 251 to 1,431. Four articles were cited more than 1,000 times. Bishop DVM (10 articles; 3,653 citations) and Tomblin JD (10 articles; 4,261 citations) were the most frequently cited authors. ABSTRACT Zinnia sp. and hairy beggartick (Bidens pilosa) plants exhibiting symptoms of possible virus infection were found in the municipality of Santa Bárbara d’Oeste, São Paulo State, Brazil. Flexuous filamentous particles and cytoplasmatic inclusions typical of potyvirus infection were observed by transmission electron microscopy, respectively, in leaf extracts and cells of symptomatic leaves. Infection of both plants with bidens mottle virus (BiMoV) was confirmed by RT-PCR using potyvirus universal primers, followed by nucleotide sequencing of the amplicons. The nearly complete genome sequence of the Brazilian isolate, named BiMoV-BR, is 9700 nucleotides long and shares 95.6 % identity with the corresponding nucleotide sequence of a BiMoV isolate from the United States. BiMoV-BR was mechanically transmitted and caused systemic infection on plants of Zinnia sp., hairy beggarstick, sunflower (Helianthus annuus), and lettuce (Lactuca sativa). Myzus persicae transmitted the virus to Zinnia sp. plants with efficacy of 8 % and 42 %, using one and ten aphids per plant, respectively. This is the first detection of BiMoV in Brazil. Resumo Após a paralisação do programa federal Territórios da Cidadania (TC), a Bahia foi um dos poucos estados brasileiros que manteve a abordagem territorial, por meio dos Territórios de Identidade. Assim, o objetivo do estudo é avaliar o efeito da gestão territorial para os TC do estado da Bahia (grupo tratamento) em comparação com os demais TC do Brasil (grupo controle). Para tanto, um Índice de Desenvolvimento Rural da Agricultura Familiar (IDR-AF) foi desenvolvido para dois períodos, permitindo calcular a sua evolução para os dois grupos. Os resultados evidenciaram uma evolução significativamente superior do IDR-AF nos TC da Bahia em comparação com os TC do Brasil (p-valor < 0,01). Em dez anos, o índice da Bahia cresceu em 0,07, enquanto que o restante do Brasil progrediu em 0,04. Abstract After the interruption of the Territories of Citizenship (TC) Program by the Brazilian federal government, Bahia was one of the few Brazilian states that maintained the territorial approach, the “Territories of Identity”. The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of territorial management for the TC-Bahia (treatment group) in comparison to TC-Brazil (control group). A Rural Development Index for Family Agriculture (RDI-FA) was developed for two time periods to calculate its evolution for each group. The results showed that the RDI-FA had a significantly higher evolution for TC-Bahia in relation to TC-Brazil (p-value < 0.01). In ten years, TC-Bahia index increased by 0.07 while the rest of TC-Brazil grew by 0.04. We concluded that institutionalization and improvements of Bahian territorial approach has benefited family farmers, especially in the institutional dimension of territorial heritage. ABSTRACT Neuroleptic malignant syndrome (NMS) is a neurologic emergency potentially fatal. This rare side effect is most commonly associated with first-generation antipsychotics and less frequently with atypical or second-generation antipsychotics. The diagnosis relies on both clinical and laboratory criteria, with other organic and psychiatric conditions being ruled out. CASE REPORT: A 39-year-old female patient, who is institutionalized and completely dependent, has a medical history of recurrent urinary infections and colonization by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae. Her regular medication regimen included sertraline, valproic acid, quetiapine, risperidone, lorazepam, diazepam, haloperidol, baclofen, and fentanyl. The patient began experiencing dyspnea. Upon physical examination, she exhibited hypotension and a diminished vesicular murmur at the right base during pulmonary auscultation. Initially, after hospitalization, she developed high febrile peaks associated with hemodynamic instability, prompting the initiation of antibiotic treatment. Despite this, her fever persisted without an increase in blood inflammatory parameters, and she developed purulent sputum, necessitating antibiotherapy escalation. The seventh day of hospitalization showed no improvement in symptoms, suggesting NNMS as a differential diagnosis. All antipsychotic and sedative drugs, as well as antibiotherapy, were discontinued, after which the patient showed significant clinical improvement. CONCLUSION: Antipsychotic agents are commonly employed to manage behavioral changes linked to various disorders. However, their severe side effects necessitate a high degree of vigilance, the cessation of all medications, and the implementation of supportive care measures. A prompt and accurate diagnosis of NMS is crucial to alleviating the severe, prolonged morbidity and potential mortality associated with this syndrome. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Nutritional status and growth curves can affect cognitive development, increase the risk of infection, and contribute to the development of chronic diseases. Its etiology is related to food, socioeconomic, and maternal conditions. However, to date, no data on these parameters exist in the state of Goiás, Brazil. OBJECTIVE: To compare the nutritional status and growth curves of children and adolescents in the city of Goiânia, Goiás, Brazil. DESIGN AND SETTING: This was a cross-sectional study. A total of 529 individuals were recruited from a primary health center in the municipality. METHODS: To assess nutritional status, the sample was divided into three categories: 3–4, 5–10, and 11–19 years, with z-score classification considering body mass index for age. The classification of growth curves was performed considering the median height values for age, assuming two references: (a) young Brazilian population and (b) one recommended for international use. The independent sample T-test was used to compare anthropometric variables. RESULTS: The results showed that the classification of eutrophics represents a predominant percentage between both sexes (men: 03–04 = 55.4%; 05–10 = 57.6%; 11–19 = 53.5 % and women: 03–04 = 53.5%; 05–10 = 63.9%; 11–19 = 56.9%), and growth curves showed differences in specific periods in both sexes. CONCLUSIONS: It can be concluded that children and adolescents from the city of Goiânia present as predominance the eutrophic nutritional status, followed by the risk of overweight, underweight, obesity, and malnutrition of both sexes.
