Com o mote de identificar o tratamento dedicado à literatura na Base Nacional Comum Curricular - Ensino Médio, o presente estudo propõe um debate sobre o espaço minguado que o documento reserva à área. Para tanto, nos norteamos pelo conceito de “não-lugar” que, em Augé (2005), corresponde a um ambiente no qual imperam o utilitarismo e a transitoriedade, isto é, um espaço, ao mesmo tempo, lotado e vazio, que enquanto estrutura física existe de fato, mas sem construção identitária, nem valor relacional e histórico, por isso, banal. Circunscrevendo a literatura ao “não-lugar literário”, ao fazer recomendações vazias, antagônicas, inconsistentes e, às vezes, impraticáveis ​​ao campo artístico-literário, a BNCC opera tanto no sentido de esgotar o acesso à literatura em âmbito educacional – já que colabora para o apagamento dessa arte nesse espaço –, como também contribui para, disfarçadamente, direcionar-la ao caminho da utilidade mercadológica e de outros ideais neoliberais, cujo efeito principal é a anulação das potências dessa arte plural. Imbuída de perspectivas intrincadas e vazias de sentidos em um texto insignificante, na nova BNCC, a literatura não somente não logra o relevo de arte como também é (in)oportunamente enfraquecida, impulsionada ao esquecimento e/ou até mesmo a um propósito afastado dela.

Con el objetivo de identificar el tratamiento dedicado a la literatura en la Base Curricular Común Nacional (BNCC, en Portugués), este estudio propone un debate sobre el espacio limitado que el documento reserva para el área. Para ello nos guiamos por el concepto de “no lugar” que, en Augé (2005), corresponde a un entorno en el que prevalecen el utilitarismo y la fugacidad, es decir, un espacio, al mismo tiempo, poblado y vacío, que como estructura física existe realmente, pero sin construcción identitaria, ni valor relacional e histórico, por tanto, banal. Circunscribiendo la literatura al “no lugar literario”, haciendo recomendaciones vacías, antagónicas, inconsistentes y, a veces, poco prácticas al campo artístico-literario, el BNCC actúa tanto para agotar el acceso a la literatura en el contexto educativo – ya que colabora durante la borradura de este arte en este espacio–, pero también contribuye a, encubiertamente, encaminarlo hacia el camino del marketing utilitario y otros ideales neoliberales, cuyo principal efecto es la anulación de los poderes de este arte plural. Imbuida de perspectivas intrincadas y vaciada de significados en un texto insignificante, en el nuevo BNCC, la literatura no sólo no logra alcanzar el estatus de arte sino que también es (in)oportunamente debilitada, conducida al olvido y/o incluso a un propósito muy alejado del él.

RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar as doenças autoinflamatórias (DAI) de acordo com sexo e idade no momento do diagnóstico e a resposta terapêutica em uma grande população. Métodos: Este é um estudo observacional transversal de um registro latino-americano que usou um sistema de dados coletados entre 2015 e 2018. Quaisquer achados alterados ao longo do acompanhamento foram registrados. Os formulários foram traduzidos para os idiomas português e espanhol, incluindo características demográficas, clínicas, laboratoriais, genéticas e de tratamento. Resultados: Incluímos 152 pacientes, sendo 51,3% do sexo masculino e 75% da raça branca. A média de idade de início da doença foi de 2,1 anos (0–15,6 anos) e a média de idade de diagnóstico 6,9 anos (0–21,9 anos); 111 (73%) eram crianças (0–9 anos) e 41 (27%) adolescentes/adultos jovens (10–21 anos). A síndrome de febre periódica, estomatite aftosa, faringite e adenite (PFAPA) ocorreu em 46/152 (30%), osteomielite não bacteriana crônica (CNO) em 32/152 (21%) e febre familiar do Mediterrâneo (FMF) em 24/152 (15,7%). A PFAPA foi significativamente maior em crianças pequenas (38,7 vs. 7,3%, p<0,001), e a CNO, em adolescentes/adultos jovens (13,5 vs. 41,5%, p<0,001). A frequência do sexo feminino foi significativamente maior na CNO (28,4 vs. 14,1%, p=0,031) e menor na FMF (8,1 vs. 23,1%, p=0,011). Os medicamentos mais utilizados foram glicocorticoides, anti-inflamatórios não esteroidais (AINE) e colchicina. O tratamento com glicocorticoides e colchicina foi usado em todas as DAI com resposta boa a moderada. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate autoinflammatory diseases (AID) according to age at diagnosis and sex, and response to therapy in a large population. Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study of a Latin American registry using a designed web system for data storage, collected between 2015 and 2018. Any altered findings during follow-up were recorded. The forms were translated into Portuguese and Spanish, including demographic, clinical, laboratory, genetic and treatment characteristics. Results: We included 152 patients, 51.3% male and 75% Caucasian. The median age at disease onset was 2.1 years (0–15.6 years) and median age at diagnosis 6.9 years (0–21.9 years); 111 (73%) were children (0–9 years old), and 41 (27%) were adolescents and young adults (AYA) (10–21 years old). Periodic fever, aphthous stomatitis, pharyngitis, and adenitis syndrome (PFAPA) occurred in 46/152 (30%), chronic non-bacterial osteomyelitis (CNO) in 32/152 (21%), and familial Mediterranean fever (FMF) in 24/152 (15.7%). PFAPA was significantly higher in young children than in AYA (38.7% vs. 7.3%, p<0.001), while CNO were lower (13.5% vs. 41.5%, p<0.001). RESUMO: O objetivo deste estudo retrospectivo foi avaliar o impacto da apresentação clínica da piometra na morbimortalidade das cadelas afetadas. Foram avaliados os registros clínicos de 47 cadelas tratadas cirurgicamente para piometra entre maio e dezembro de 2017. Os dados recolhidos na admissão foram analisados para classificar os animais quanto à apresentação clínica da piometra, presença de critérios da Síndrome da Resposta Inflamatória Sistêmica (SRIS) e disfunções orgânicas - cardiovascular, neurológica, renal e hemostática. Foi registrado o desfecho durante 14 dias. A mortalidade global foi de 13%. Piometra aberta e fechada foram identificadas em 62% (n= 29) e 38% (n= 18) respectivamente. SRIS esteve presente em 44 (94%) cadelas e 27 (57%) tiveram pelo menos uma disfunção orgânica. A disfunção mais prevalente foi a hemostática, seguida da neurológica, cardiovascular e renal. A apresentação clínica da piometra e a presença de SRIS não se correlacionaram entre si ou com presença de disfunção orgânica e mortalidade. No entanto, a quantidade de disfunções orgânicas (r=0.532, P=<0.001) e a presença das disfunções neurológica (r= -0.371; P=0.012) e renal (r=0.303; P=0.041) foram correlacionados com mortalidade. ABSTRACT: This retrospective study evaluated the impact of the clinical presentation of pyometra on the morbidity and mortality of the affected bitches. The medical records of 47 bitches surgically treated for pyometra between May and December 2017 were evaluated. The admission data were analyzed to classify the animals according to the clinical presentation of pyometra, presence of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS) and organic dysfunctions (cardiovascular, neurological, renal, and hemostatic). The outcomes were recorded for up to 14 days. The overall mortality rate was 13%. Open and closed pyometra were identified in 62% (n= 29) and 38% (n= 18) of the cases, respectively. The SIRS was present in 44 (94%) bitches, and 27 (57%) had at least one organ dysfunction. The most prevalent dysfunction was hemostatic, followed by neurological, cardiovascular, and renal dysfunction. The clinical presentation of pyometra and the presence of SIRS did not correlate with each other, or with the presence of organ dysfunction and mortality. However, cumulative organ dysfunction (r=0.532, P=<0.001) and the presence of neurological (r= -0.371; P=0.012) and renal dysfunction (r=0.303; P=0.041) were correlated with mortality. Thus, the identification of organ dysfunction through physical examination and routine laboratory analysis proved to be more effective in identifying and predicting the critically ill patients than the SIRS criteria or clinical presentation of the disease. ABSTRACT Littoral cell angioma is an extremely rare splenic vascular tumor originating from the cells lining the splenic red pulp sinuses. Approximately 150 cases of littoral cell angioma have been reported since 1991. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: There are several illness-specific cultural and system-based barriers to palliative care (PC) integration and end-of-life (EOL) care in the field of oncohematology. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to investigate the variability in the perceptions of PC and EOL care. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional study was conducted in the Hematology Division of our University Hospital in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. METHODS: Twenty physicians responded to a sociodemographic questionnaire and an adaptation of clinical questionnaires used in previous studies from October to December 2022. RESULTS: The median age of the participants was 44 years, 80% of the participants identified as female, and 75% were hematologists. Participants faced a hypothetical scenario involving the treatment of a 65-year-old female with a poor prognosis acute myeloid leukemia refractory to first-line treatment. Sixty percent of the participants chose to follow other chemotherapy regimens, whereas 40% opted for PC. Next, participants considered case salvage for the patient who developed septic shock following chemotherapy and were prompted to choose their most probable conduct, and the conduct they thought would be better for the patient. Even though participants were from the same center, we found a divergence from the most probable conduct among 40% of the participants, which was due to personal convictions, legal aspects, and other physicians’ reactions. CONCLUSIONS: We found considerable differences in the perception of PC and EOL care among professionals, despite following the same protocols. The study also demonstrated variations between healthcare professionals’ beliefs and practices and persistent historical tendencies to prioritize aggressive interventions. Resumo Introdução As complicações decorrentes da hospitalização por COVID-19 têm grande impacto na saúde física dos indivíduos. Uma das consequências que merece atenção é a fraqueza muscular, que pode ser influenciada por diversos fatores, ge-rando consequências que podem necessitar de reabilitação. Objetivo Relacionar o grau de força muscular periférica e respiratória com variáveis sociodemográficas, clínicas e de internação próximo à alta após internação por COVID-19. Métodos Este estudo transversal analisou dados de 52 pa-cientes hospitalizados por COVID-19 que foram entrevistados próximo à alta para determinar perfis sociodemográficos e clínicos e que foram submetidos a testes de força muscular. A força muscular periférica foi avaliada pela escala do Medical Research Council, e a força respiratória foi determinada de acordo com a pressão inspiratória e expiratória máxima medida com vacuômetro. Os dados de internação foram coletados dos prontuários dos pacientes. Resultados A força periférica esteve reduzida em 53,9% da amostra e as variáveis relacionadas (p < 0,05) foram idade, peso, câncer, hipertensão, fisioterapia e número de sessões de fisioterapia. A força inspiratória foi reduzida em 50% dos indivíduos e a força expiratória em 60% dos indivíduos, e essas reduções foram relacionadas (p < 0,05) ao sexo, pressão arterial elevada, idade e peso. Conclusão Próximo à alta hospitalar da COVID-19, mais de 50% dos pacien-tes apresentavam fraqueza muscular periférica e respiratória associada à idade avançada, hipertensão e baixo peso. Abstract Introduction Complications arising from hospitalization due to COVID-19 have great impact on the physical health of individuals. One of the consequences that deserves attention is muscle weakness, which can be influenced by several factors, generating consequences that may need rehabilitation. Objective To relate the degree of peripheral and respiratory muscle strength to sociodemographic, clinical, and hospitalization variables close to discharge after hospitalization due to COVID-19. Methods This cross-sectional study analyzed data for 52 patients hospitalized for COVID-19 who were interviewed close to discharge to determine sociodemographic and clinical profiles and underwent muscle strength testing. Peripheral muscle strength was evaluated using the Medical Research Council scale, and respiratory strength was determined according to maximum inspiratory and expiratory pressure measured with a vacuometer. Hospitalization data were collected from patient medical records. Results Peripheral strength was reduced in 53.9% of the sample, and the related variables (p < 0.05) were age, weight, cancer, high blood pressure, physical therapy, and number of physiotherapy sessions. Inspiratory force was reduced by 50% of individuals and expiratory force in 60% individuals, and these reductions were related (p < 0.05) to sex, high blood pressure, age, and weight. Conclusion Close to COVID-19 hospital discharge, over 50% of patients exhibited peripheral and respiratory muscle weakness, associated with advanced age, hypertension, and low weight. Those with peripheral weakness received more physiotherapy and had more oncological diseases, while respiratory weakness was more common in men. This underscores the importance of preventive measures and post-hospitalization rehabili-tation programs, including physiotherapy, for muscle strength recovery. ABSTRACT This study aimed to investigate the effects of different levels of vitamin D3 in broiler diets on performance and bone health. A total of 360 one-day old male Cobb500® broiler chicks were subjected to five treatments of different levels of vitamin D3 in diets during two rearing phases: 0 IU/kg in both phases; 625 IU/kg in starter and 500 IU/kg in grower phase (25% of commercial inclusion); 1,250 IU/kg in starter and 1,000 IU/kg in grower phase (50% of commercial inclusion); 1,875 IU/kg in starter and 1,500 IU/kg in grower phase (75% of commercial inclusion); and 2,500 IU/kg in starter and 2,000 IU/kg in grower phase (100% of commercial inclusion). The traits studied weekly were feed intake, body weight, feed conversion, and viability. At 21 and 35 days of age, tibiae and femurs were removed, dissected, and evaluated for dry matter (DM), ash (%MM), calcium (%Ca), phosphorus (%P) and breaking strength. At 35 days of age, the bones were subjected to histopathological analysis for macro- and microscopic morphological evaluation. Data were subjected to regression analysis, using α = 0.05. The variables of percentage %MM, %Ca, %P, and breaking strength experienced a positive linear effect up to the supplementation levels of approximately 25% of inclusion. The histopathological analysis found that the group that received the diet with 100% inclusion of vitamin D3 presented lesions compatible with osteopetrosis and tibial dyschondroplasia. The observed results showed that for isonutritive diets, reduced levels of vitamin D3 guaranteed performance during the evaluated period while the use of 100% of vitamin D3, as commonly used, can cause bone diseases and harm the welfare of broilers. Resumo Objetivo: Avaliar a correlação entre os achados na tomografia computadorizada multidetectores (TCMD) comparativamente aos resultados laboratoriais em pacientes com tuberculose pulmonar (TBP). Materiais e Métodos: Amostra de 57 pacientes foi avaliada. Pacientes com suspeita clínica de TBP foram divididos de acordo com a positividade do diagnóstico, e as variáveis sociodemográficas, sintomas clínicos e achados tomográficos e laboratoriais foram comparados. Resultados: Nos pacientes com TBP e baciloscopia positiva, foram verificadas frequências significativas para pequenos nódulos pulmonares com distribuição peribroncovascular (47,4% vs. 8,3%; p = 0,046) e miliar (36,8% vs. 0,0%; p = 0,026), espessamento septal (84,2% vs. 41,7%; p = 0,021) e linfonodomegalias (52,6% vs. 8,3%; p = 0,020). Em relação à cultura, os pequenos nódulos pulmonares com distribuição centrolobular (75,0% vs. 35,7%; p = 0,045) e opacidades em árvore em brotamento (91,7% vs. 42,9%; p = 0,014) apresentaram frequências significativamente superiores. Medidas de sensibilidade, especificidade, valor preditivo positivo e valor preditivo negativo para árvore em brotamento, um dos principais achados tomográficos característicos da TBP, foram, respectivamente, 71.0%, 73,1%, 75,9% e 67,9%. Conclusão: A TCMD apresentou medidas preditivas confiáveis para os principais achados tomográficos no diagnóstico de TBP, sendo uma ferramenta segura para o diagnóstico da doença em pacientes com suspeita clínica. Abstract Objective: To evaluate the correlation between multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) findings and laboratory test results in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis (PTB). Materials and Methods: A total of 57 patients were evaluated. Patients with suspected PTB were divided into groups according to the final diagnosis (confirmed or excluded), and the groups were compared in terms of sociodemographic variables, clinical symptoms, tomography findings, and laboratory test results. Results: Among the patients with a confirmed diagnosis of PTB, small pulmonary nodules with a peribronchovascular distribution were significantly more common in the patients with a positive sputum smear microscopy result (47.4% vs. 8.3%; p = 0.046), as were a miliary pattern (36.8% vs. 0.0%; p = 0.026), septal thickening (84.2% vs. 41.7%; p = 0.021), and lymph node enlargement (52.6% vs. 8.3%; p = 0.020). Small pulmonary nodules with a centrilobular distribution were significantly more common among the culture-positive patients (75.0% vs. 35.7%; p = 0.045), as was a tree-in-bud pattern (91.7% vs. 42.9%; p = 0.014). A tree-in-bud pattern, one of the main tomography findings characteristic of PTB, had a sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value, and negative predictive value of 71.0%, 73.1%, 75.9%, and 67.9%, respectively. Conclusion: MDCT presented reliable predictive values for the main tomography findings in the diagnosis of PTB, being a safe tool for the diagnosis of PTB in patients with clinical suspicion of the disease. It also appears to be a suitable tool for the selection of patients who are candidates for more complex, invasive examinations from among those with high clinical suspicion of PTB and a negative sputum smear microscopy result. RESUMO O câncer de pulmão (CP) é uma das neoplasias mais comuns e letais no Brasil, e apenas 15% dos pacientes são diagnosticados nos estágios iniciais. O tabagismo persiste como o responsável por mais de 85% de todos os casos. O rastreamento do CP (RCP) por meio da TC de baixa dosagem de radiação (TCBD) reduz a mortalidade do CP em 20%, e, quando combinado com a cessação do tabagismo, essa redução chega a 38%. Na última década, diversos países adotaram o RCP como recomendação de saúde populacional. No Brasil, embora ainda incipiente, a discussão sobre o tema é cada vez mais ampla e necessária. Com o intuito de aumentar o conhecimento e estimular o debate sobre o RCP, a Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Torácica, a Sociedade Brasileira de Pneumologia e Tisiologia e o Colégio Brasileiro de Radiologia e Diagnóstico por Imagem constituíram um painel de especialistas para elaborar as recomendações para o RCP. As recomendações aqui apresentadas foram baseadas em revisão narrativa da literatura, com ênfase em grandes estudos populacionais, em revisões sistemáticas e em recomendações de diretrizes internacionais, sendo construídas após ampla discussão pelo grupo de especialistas. ABSTRACT Although lung cancer (LC) is one of the most common and lethal tumors, only 15% of patients are diagnosed at an early stage. Smoking is still responsible for more than 85% of cases. Lung cancer screening (LCS) with low-dose CT (LDCT) reduces LC-related mortality by 20%, and that reduction reaches 38% when LCS by LDCT is combined with smoking cessation. In the last decade, a number of countries have adopted population-based LCS as a public health recommendation. Albeit still incipient, discussion on this topic in Brazil is becoming increasingly broad and necessary. With the aim of increasing knowledge and stimulating debate on LCS, the Brazilian Society of Thoracic Surgery, the Brazilian Thoracic Association, and the Brazilian College of Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging convened a panel of experts to prepare recommendations for LCS in Brazil. The recommendations presented here were based on a narrative review of the literature, with an emphasis on large population-based studies, systematic reviews, and the recommendations of international guidelines, and were developed after extensive discussion by the panel of experts. Abstract We estimated genetic parameters of two Pinus caribaea var. caribaea progeny tests based on growth traits aiming at the identification of the best selection strategy. This study was conducted in two progeny tests located in Selvíria (MS), Brazil. Tests were set up in block design, one with 76 progenies (area 1) and the other with 99 progenies (area 2). Genetic parameters were estimated using the SELEGEN software through REML/BLUP method. To estimate the genetic gain through selection, four selection methods and ten selection intensities were tested. The intensity of selection that maximizes genetic gain and genetic diversity was calculated by the optimization point. Significant variation was observed between and with progeny for all traits in area 2 and only within plots for height in area 1. Higher values of heritability were observed in area 1. Incluídos todos os pacientes maiores de 18 anos, com diagnóstico de COVID-19 admitidos de setembro de 2020 a junho de 2021. Carga de trabalho avaliado pelo Nursing Activities Score (NAS), e gravidade pelo Sequential Organ Failure Assessment. Realizado análises descritiva e inferencial. Resultados: Incluídos 217 pacientes, maioria homens, média de idade 62,41 anos, brancos, obesos, não tabagistas e sedentários. A média do NAS foi 84,79. O dimensionamento de pessoal estava em concordância com legislação e NAS. O NAS não foi associado a gravidade. Houve associação da gravidade com maior idade, sexo, comorbidades, sedentarismo, tempo de ventilação mecânica, internação e óbito. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the workload and severity of patients in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) with COVID-19. Method: Cross-sectional, analytical study carried out in the ICU of a private hospital. All patients over the age of 18 with a diagnosis of COVID-19 admitted from September 2020 to June 2021 were included. Workload assessed by the Nursing Activities Score (NAS), and severity by the Sequential Organ Failure Assessment. Descriptive and inferential analyses were performed. Results: 217 patients were included, mostly men, mean age 62.41 years, white, obese, non-smokers and sedentary. The average NAS was 84.79. Staffing was in line with legislation and NAS. NAS was not associated with severity. Severity was associated with higher age, gender, comorbidities, sedentary lifestyle, time on mechanical ventilation, hospitalization and death. Conclusion: Workload was high and not associated with severity or outcomes. Severity was associated with demographic and clinical conditions. Carga de trabajo evaluada mediante la Nursing Activities Score (NAS), y gravedad mediante la valoración secuencial de fallo orgánico. Se realizaron análisis descriptivos e inferenciales. Resultados: Se incluyeron 217 pacientes, en su mayoría hombres, edad media 62,41 años, raza blanca, obesos, no fumadores y sedentarios. El NAS medio era de 84,79. Los niveles de personal se ajustaban a la legislación y al NAS. El NAS no se asoció con la gravedad. La gravedad se asoció a mayor edad, sexo, comorbilidades, sedentarismo, tiempo de ventilación mecánica, hospitalización y muerte. Abstract This review aimed to assess the association between overweight/obesity and dental caries in Brazilian children/adolescents. Searches were performed in the Web of Science, Scopus, Cochrane, PubMed, Embase and SciELO, Lilacs and Open Grey literature databases up to June 2022. The Joanna Briggs Institute checklist for analytical cross-sectional studies, the checklist for cohort studies, and the checklist for case-control studies were used. A total of 41 publications were included, and 15 meta-analyses were performed. The authors analyzed the differences in weighted mean difference (MD) and odds ratios (OR), and their corresponding confidence intervals (CI) (95%) for dental caries among eutrophic and obese and/or overweight children/adolescents. Meta-analyses showed that there was no association between overweight and/or obesity and dental caries in Brazilian children/adolescents for most anthropometric reference curves using BMI (Body Mass Index). A greater experience of dental caries was associated with well-nourished adolescents in permanent dentition, compared with obese individuals in the same dentition, as classified by the CDC 2000 curve (OR = 2.53, 95% CI;1.49–4.29; p = 0.0006; I2 = 0%) in dichotomous outcome studies, and (MD = 0.61, 95%CI: 0.08–1.15; p = 0.02; I2 = 0%) in continuous studies. The strength of the evidence of the results was classified as very low, low or moderate. RESUMO Ayahuasca é uma decocção psicoativa originalmente usada na cultura indígena amazônica. É constituída por um líquido denso e marrom que resulta mais frequentemente da decocção de duas plantas nativas da floresta amazônica, Psychotria viridis (Rubiaceae) e Banisteriopsis caapi (Malpighiaceae). A composição da decocção é variável, pois diversas espécies vegetais podem ser utilizadas em seu preparo. Seu efeito psicoativo ocorre devido à presença de N,N-dimetiltriptamina (DMT), agonista dos receptores serotoninérgicos (5-HT1A/2A/2C), que é metabolizado pela enzima monoamina oxidase tipo A (MAO-A), e também à presença de β-carbolinas, que são inibidores reversíveis da MAO-A. Essa interação conjunta promove uma sequência de efeitos neuroquímicos psicodélicos. Devido à atual expansão das pesquisas sobre substâncias psicodélicas e ao crescente interesse público nos benefícios da ayahuasca, além do seu uso tradicional na Amazônia, as pesquisas acadêmicas sobre sua capacidade terapêutica têm aumentado. Este estudo teve como objetivo realizar uma revisão de literatura sobre as evidências científicas do potencial terapêutico da ingestão de ayahuasca. A revisão abrangeu o período 2012-2022, e resultou em evidências sobre os efeitos terapêuticos da ayahuasca na depressão/ansiedade, dependência química/alcoolismo e doença de Parkinson, bem como efeitos neuropsicológicos, e possíveis efeitos tóxicos na reprodução/desenvolvimento embrionário, entre outros efeitos adversos. ABSTRACT Ayahuasca is a psychoactive decoction originally used in indigenous Amazonian culture. It consists of a dense brown liquid that most frequently results from the decoction of two plants native to the Amazon rainforest, Psychotria viridis (Rubiaceae) and Banisteriopsis caapi (Malpighiaceae). The composition of the decoction is variable, as several plant species can be used in its preparation. Its psychoactive effect occurs due to the presence of N,N-dimethyltryptamine (DMT), an agonist at serotonergic receptors (5-HT1A/2A/2C) that is metabolized by the enzyme monoamine oxidase type A (MAO-A), and also the presence of β-carbolines, which are reversible MAO-A inhibitors. This joint interaction promotes a sequence of psychedelic neurochemical effects. Due to the current expansion of research on psychedelic substances and the growing public interest in the benefits of ayahuasca beyond its traditional use in the Amazon, academic research on its therapeutic capacity has been increasing. This study aimed to carry out a literature review on the scientific evidence for the therapeutic potential of ingesting ayahuasca. Resumo Objetivo Relacionar variáveis sociodemográficas, econômicas, clínicas e ter ou não cuidador, risco de queda e percepção do risco de quedas com a capacidade funcional em pessoas idosas em um Serviço de Emergência. Métodos Estudo transversal e analítico, realizado entre setembro de 2019 e março de 2020, no Serviço de Emergência, com 197 pessoas idosas. Foi aplicado questionário com informações sociodemográficas, econômicas e clínicas; e os instrumentos: Falls Risk Awareness Questionnaire, Morse Falls Scale, Índice de Katz e Escala de Lawton. Para comparar o Índice de Katz e a Escala de Lawton; e associar a Morse Falls Scale com as variáveis contínuas foram utilizados, respectivamente, o teste de Kruskal Wallis e o coeficiente de correlação de Spearman. Para associar Falls Risk Awareness Questionnaire com as variáveis categóricas utilizou-se o teste de Mann-Whitney e o teste de Kruskal Wallis. Resultados Os nãos letrados (p<0,0001) e com menor renda (p=0,0446) tiveram menor escore no Índice de Katz, isto é, apresentaram maior percentual de totalmente dependentes. Os divorciados (p=0,0004) e sem cuidador (p<0,0001) apresentaram maior escore na Escala de Lawton, ou seja, maior grau de independência. A maior percepção dos riscos de queda (p=0,0403) associou-se à menor independência para as atividades instrumentais de vida diária. O risco baixo de quedas (p<0,0001) associou-se à maior independência para as atividades instrumentais de vida diária. Não houve associação entre percepção do risco de queda (p=0,2693) e risco de queda (p=0,4984) com o Índice de Katz. Conclusão A menor escolaridade e renda associaram-se com a dependência para atividades de vida diária. Ser divorciado e não ter cuidador associaram-se com a independência para atividades instrumentais de vida diária. Não houve associação entre a percepção do risco de queda e o risco de queda com as atividades de vida diária. Abstract Objective To relate sociodemographic, economic and clinical variables and having or not having a caregiver, risk for falls and perception of the risk for falls with the functional capacity of older adults in an Emergency Department. Methods Analytical cross-sectional study of 197 older adults conducted in the Emergency Department between September 2019 and March 2020. A questionnaire with sociodemographic, economic and clinical information was applied, as well as the instruments: Falls Risk Awareness Questionnaire, Morse Falls Scale, Katz Index and Lawton Scale. The Kruskal Wallis test was used to compare the Katz Index and the Lawton Scale, and the Spearman correlation coefficient was used to associate the Morse Falls Scale with continuous variables. The Mann-Whitney test and the Kruskal Wallis test were used to associate the Falls Risk Awareness Questionnaire with the categorical variables. Results Illiterate patients (p<0.0001) with lower income (p=0.0446) had a lower score on the Katz Index, that is, they presented a higher percentage of totally dependent people. Divorced older adults (p=0.0004) without a caregiver (p<0.0001) had a higher score on the Lawton Scale, that is, a greater degree of independence. The greater perception of risk for falls (p=0.0403) was associated with less independence for instrumental activities of daily living. The low risk for falls (p<0.0001) was associated with greater independence for instrumental activities of daily living. There was no association between perceived risk for falls (p=0.2693) and risk for falls (p=0.4984) with the Katz Index. Conclusion Lower education and income were associated with dependence for activities of daily living. Being divorced and not having a caregiver were associated with independence in instrumental activities of daily living.
