ABSTRACT Purpose: This study aimed to compare the safety and effectiveness of intraocular pressure reduction between micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation in patients with refractory primary open-angle glaucoma. Methods: We included patients with primary open angle glaucoma with at least 12 months of follow-up. We collected and analyzed data on the preoperative characteristics and postoperative outcomes. The primary outcomes were a reduction of ≥20% of the baseline value (criterion A) and/or intraocular pressure between 6 and 21 mmHg (criterion B). Results: We included 128 eyes with primary open-angle glaucoma. The preoperative mean intraocular pressure was 25.53 ± 6.40 and 35.02 ± 12.57 mmHg in the micropulse- and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation groups, respectively (p<0.001). The mean intraocular pressure was reduced significantly to 14.33 ± 3.40 and 15.37 ± 5.85 mmHg in the micropulse- and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation groups at the last follow-up, respectively (p=0.110). The mean intraocular pressure reduction at 12 months was 11.20 ± 11.46 and 19.65 ± 13.22 mmHg in the micropulse- and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation groups, respectively (p<0.001). The median preoperative logMAR visual acuity was 0.52 ± 0.69 and 1.75 ± 1.04 in the micropulse- and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation groups, respectively (p<0.001). The mean visual acuity variation was −0.10 ± 0.35 and −0.074 ± 0.16 in the micropulse- and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation, respectively (p=0.510). Preoperatively, the mean eye drops were 3.44 ± 1.38 and 2.89 ± 0.68 drugs in the micropulse- and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation groups, respectively (p=0.017), but those were 2.06 ± 1.42 and 1.02 ± 1.46 at the end of the study in the “slow cook” and micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation groups, respectively (p<0.001). The success of criterion A was not significant between both groups. Compared with 11 eyes (17.74%) in the “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation group, 19 eyes (28.78%) in the micropulse transscleral cyclophotocoagulation group showed complete success (p=0.171). For criterion B, 28 (42.42%) and 2 eyes (3.22%) showed complete success after micropulse- and “slow cook” transscleral cyclophotocoagulation, respectively (p<0.001). With the increase in life expectancy and the significant incidence of lesions of the musculoskeletal system, both the public and private sectors seek improvements in their products and processes in order to contribute to the health of the population. Every year tons of chicken eggshell (CES) from domestic consumption are released in environment and the present work aims the production of a synthetic ceramic bone substitute using the eggshell as a source of calcium ions. According to the methodology, 5, 10, 15 and 20 mol% of iron ions were used and the characterization assays demonstrated the formation of a double calcium iron phosphate - Ca9Fe(PO4)7. MG63 cells were cultured on test specimens to cell viability assay and to each doped group analyzed, verifying cell compatibility with the studied compounds, as well as a good adhesion profile. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) of the cells showed that material surface favored cell adhesion and the results demonstrated that the production of the compounds were viable to Ca9Fe(PO4)7 phase. Resumen En Brasil, el Valle del Río San Francisco es reconocido como un importante productor de melón bajo riego. Ante el estrés causado por el cambio climático, es crucial emplear nuevas estrategias de gestión del cultivo para garantizar su sostenibilidad. Por lo tanto, el objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar las características del melón bajo déficit de riego controlado (RDI) y la aplicación de bioestimulantes. El experimento se realizó en parcelas subsubdivididas. Las parcelas representaron diferentes niveles de agua: riego completo (100% de disponibilidad de agua del suelo - SWA) y niveles de déficit (80, 60 y 40% SWA). La subparcela consideró el uso de bioestimulante (con y sin), mientras que la subsubparcela abarcó los períodos de recolección: tiempo I (17 días después de la siembra - DDS hasta 26 DDS), tiempo II (27 a 36 DDS) y tiempo III (37 a 46 DDS). Las variables analizadas fueron el intercambio gaseoso. El melón mostró ser afectado por la restricción hídrica; no obstante, ciertas carac terísticas fisiológicas mostraron ser más tolerantes, exhibiendo una respuesta adaptativa atenuada. Específicamente, la aplicación de déficit hídrico moderado (80% SWA), indepen dientemente de la estación evaluada, permitió un mayor rendimiento en la eficiencia del uso del agua (UEU). Abstract The São Francisco River Valley region in Brazil is a major producer of irrigated melons, facing stresses due to climate change. New strategies for crop management are essential to maintain sustainable cultivation. This study aims to evaluate the characteristics of melons under controlled irrigation deficit (RDI) and the use of a biostimulant. The experiment followed a completely randomized design with sub-subdivided plots. The main plots represented water levels: full irrigation (100% soil water availability - SWA) and deficit levels (80%, 60%, and 40% SWA). The subplots represented biostimulant application (with and without), and the sub-subplots represented collection periods: time I (17 to 26 days after planting - DAP), time II (27 to 36 DAP), and time III (37 to 46 DAP). The variable analyzed was gas exchange. Water restriction affects melons; however, some physiological characteristics show greater tolerance, demonstrating an adaptive response to moderate water deficit (80% SWA), regardless of the evaluation period. This allows for better water use efficiency. The biostimulant applied was not effective in promoting adjustments in the evaluated gas exchanges.

Resumo Objetivo Buscamos comparar o diâmetro dos enxertos com utilização dos tendões grácil e semitendíneo na reconstrução do ligamento cruzado anterior (LCA) utilizando as montagens quádrupla, quíntupla e sêxtupla. Outro objetivo é avaliar em qual porcentagem de pacientes é possível cada tipo de montagem, em função do comprimento de cada tendão livre. Métodos Setenta e um pacientes foram submetidos à reconstrução do LCA utilizando tendões isquitibiais. Foram medidos os diâmetros das montagens quádrupla, quíntupla e sêxtupla em todos pacientes. Registramos os comprimento dos tendões e o diâmetro do enxerto com os três tipos de montagens. Resultados As comparações entre as montagens mostraram diferença estatisticamente significativa (p < 0,001). A cada montagem, aumentou 1 mm o diâmetro do enxerto e isso foi estatisticamente significativo (p < 0,001). Em 2,8% dos pacientes, somente a montagem quádrupla foi possível, pois os comprimentos livres dos 2 tendões retirados foram menores que 24 cm. Em 23,9% desses, foi possível a montagem quíntupla; pois somente o semitendíneo tinha comprimento mínimo de 24 cm e, em 73,2%, foi possível a montagem sêxtupla com o comprimento dos 2 tendões igual ou superior a 24 cm. Conclusão Em 97,2% dos casos foi possível realizar a montagem quíntupla ou sêxtupla, já que o comprimento final do enxerto de no mínimo 8 cm apresenta diferença estatisticamente significante entre as comparações. Abstract Objective This study aimed to compare gracilis and semitendinosus tendon graft diameters in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction using quadruple, quintuple, and sextuple assemblies. Another objective was to evaluate the percentage of patients in which each assembly type is possible, depending on the length of each free tendon. Methods Seventy-one patients underwent ACL reconstruction using hamstring tendons. We measured the diameters of the quadruple, quintuple, and sextuple assemblies in all patients. We recorded tendon length and graft diameter from three assembly types. Results Assembly comparison showed a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). In each assembly, graft diameter increased by 1 mm, a statistically significant value (p < 0.001). In 2.8% of patients, the only potential assembly was the quadruple assembly because the free lengths of the 2 tendons removed were lower than 24 cm. The quintuple assembly was possible in 23.9% of subjects, as only the semitendinosus had a minimum length of 24 cm. The sextuple assembly was possible in 73.2% of patients because both tendons were at least 24 cm in length. Conclusion A quintuple or sextuple assembly is possible in 97.2% of cases since the final graft length of at least 8 cm is statistically significant between comparisons. RESUMO: O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar alterações clínicas, cardiorrespiratórias e ecodopplercardiográficas, bem como o nível de sedação em coelhos sedados com midazolam e morfina combinadas, ou não, com dexmedetomidina. O design do estudo foi experimental controlado randomizado cego, com 16 coelhos adultos machos Nova Zelândia, pesando 3,1 ± 0,3 Kg. Os animais foram sedados aleatoriamente com um dos seguintes tratamentos: MIDA (n = 8): 1 mg/kg de midazolam e 2 mg/kg de morfina; DEX (n = 8) 25 mcg/kg de dexmedetomidina, 2 mg/kg de morfina e 1 mg/kg de midazolam; Latência, sedação e períodos de recuperação, escores de sedação, FC, f, SpO2, PAS, PAM, PAD, ToC, foram mensurados e ecoDopplercardiografia foi realizada. ABSTRACT: The objective of the present study was to evaluate clinical, cardiorespiratory, and Doppler echocardiographic changes in rabbits sedated with midazolam and morphine combined with or without dexmedetomidine. This study was a blinded, randomized, controlled experiment that included 16 adult male New Zealand rabbits weighing 3.1 ± 0.3 kg. The animals were sedated using one of the following protocols: 1 mg/kg midazolam and 2 mg/kg morphine (MIDA, n = 8), or 25 mg/kg dexmedetomidine, 2 mg/kg morphine and 1 mg/kg midazolam (DEX, n = 8). Sedation latency, duration of the sedation and recovery period, sedation scores, heart rate (HR), respiratory rate (f), peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2), systolic arterial pressure (SAP), diastolic arterial pressure (DAP), mean arterial pressure (MAP), and recta temperature were recorded, and Doppler echocardiography was performed. Latency periods were 7.3±1.6 min in the DEX group and 10.9 ± 5.0 min in the MIDA group (P = 0.112). Sedation duration was 122.4±14 min in the DEX group and 71.2 ± 32 min in the MIDA group (P = 0.005), whereas recovery time was 35.7±17.7 min in the DEX group and 32.5 ± 25.3 min in the MIDA group (P = 0.743). Resumo: A pecuária leiteira familiar é relevante para a agropecuária nacional que, embora contribua com a geração de riqueza e renda, enfrenta baixas eficiência, produtividade e custos de produção elevados. Objetivou-se analisar a eficiência técnica de propriedades leiteiras familiares no Estado de Minas Gerais. Utilizou-se a Análise por Envoltória de Dados (DEA) com modelo BCC orientado a inputs. Quanto maior foi o nível de eficiência das DMU’s, menos recursos foram utilizados em excesso. Foi identificada, ainda, a inexistência de DMU’s que realizaram manutenção preventiva de máquinas, implementos e benfeitorias, justificando o aumento da utilização, principalmente, do insumo MIB (manutenção de máquinas, implementos e benfeitorias). Com esta pesquisa, sugeriu-se o Índice de Comprometimento de Insumos em Leite (ICIL), que evidencia o percentual da produção que está comprometida para comprar um determinado insumo. Quanto maior foi o nível de eficiência das DMU’s, menor foi o ICIL, que passou de 49,36% (eficientes) para 67,47% (com eficiência baixa). Abstract: Family dairy farming is relevant for national agriculture which, although it contributes to the generation of wealth and income, faces low efficiency, productivity and high production costs. The objective was to analyze the technical efficiency of family dairy farms in the State of Minas Gerais. Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) with input-oriented BCC model was used. The higher the efficiency level of the DMUs, the fewer resources were used in excess. It was also identified the lack of DMUs that performed preventive maintenance of machines, implements and improvements, justifying the increase in the use, mainly, of the MIB input (maintenance of machines, implements and improvements). With this research, the Milk Input Commitment Index (ICIL) was suggested, which shows the percentage of production that is committed to purchase a given input. Caracterizado por síntomas que permanecen o aparecen por primera vez dentro de los tres meses posteriores a la infección por SARS-CoV-2, la COVID larga puede manifestarse de diferentes formas, incluso entre casos no hospitalizados o asintomáticos. En este sentido, este artículo presenta un panorama la COVID larga en Brasil, con énfasis en el diagnóstico, los síntomas y los desafíos para la nueva gestión de la salud. Se utilizaron datos de una encuesta realizada para investigar la COVID larga en personas afectadas por COVID-19. Se trata de datos originales de una encuesta con individuos brasileños adultos (18 años o más), que tuvieron COVID-19, con datos recolectados entre el 14 de marzo y el 14 de abril de 2022, por medio de un cuestionario divulgado en las redes sociales. El cuestionario abordó características sociodemográficas, historial de infecciones por COVID-19, vacunación contra la enfermedad, investigación de la situación de salud y de la calidad de vida antes y después de COVID-19, además de la búsqueda y acceso a tratamiento. De los 1.728 encuestados, 720 fueron considerados elegibles para el análisis. De ellos, 496 (69%) tenían COVID larga. Las personas con COVID larga informaron manifestaciones clínicas como ansiedad (80%), pérdida de memoria (78%), dolor generalizado (77%), falta de atención (75%), fatiga (73%), pérdida de cabello (71%), cambios en el sueño (70%), cambios de humor (62%), malestar (60%) y dolor en las articulaciones (59%). La mayoría recurrió a los servicios de salud durante y después de la fase aguda de COVID-19 (94% y 80%, respectivamente), lo que representa la necesidad de estructurar el sistema de salud para atender a estos pacientes.

O questionário abordou características sociodemográficas, histórico de infecções por COVID-19, vacinação contra a doença, investigação da situação de saúde e da qualidade de vida antes e após a COVID-19, além da busca e acesso a tratamento. Dos 1.728 respondentes, 720 foram considerados elegíveis para a análise. Desses, 496 (69%) tiveram COVID longa. Os indivíduos com COVID longa reportaram manifestações clínicas como ansiedade (80%), perda de memória (78%), dor generalizada (77%), falta de atenção (75%), fadiga (73%), queda de cabelo (71%), alterações de sono (70%), alterações de humor (62%), indisposição (60%) e dor nas articulações (59%). A maioria procurou os serviços de saúde durante e após a fase aguda de COVID-19 (94% e 80%, respectivamente), o que representa a necessidade de estruturar o sistema de saúde para atender esses pacientes.

Characterized by symptoms that remain or appear for the first time within three months of SARS-CoV-2 infection, long COVID can manifest itself in different ways, including in non-hospitalized or asymptomatic cases. Thus, this study offers an overview of long COVID in Brazil, especially of its diagnosis, symptoms, and challenges for new health management. Data from a study that investigated long COVID in people affected by COVID-19 were used. These original data stem from a survey with adult Brazilians (aged 18 years or older) who had COVID-19 that collected information from March 14 to April 14, 2022, by a questionnaire on social media. The questionnaire addressed sociodemographic characteristics, history of COVID-19 infections, vaccination against the disease, investigation of health status and quality of life before and after COVID-19, and search and access to treatment. Of the 1,728 respondents, 720 were considered eligible for analysis, of which 496 (69%) had long COVID. Individuals with long COVID reported clinical manifestations such as anxiety (80%), memory loss (78%), generalized pain (77%), lack of attention (75%), fatigue (73%), hair loss (71%), sleep changes (70%), mood swings (62%), malaise (60%), and joint pain (59%). Most sought health services during and after the acute phase of COVID-19 (94 and 80%, respectively), representing the need to structure the healthcare system for these patients.

Abstract: In 2024, Cadernos de Saúde Pública (CSP) celebrates 40 years of uninterrupted publications. This article analyzes the trajectory of the journal and projects its future considering contemporary challenges in scientific publishing in the field of Public Health. In the “beginning” (1985 to 1990), the journal had restricted circulation, with a quarterly frequency. The word “epidemiology”, used in a descriptive context, is highlighted. Then, in the period of “consolidation” (1991 to October 2012), CSP was indexed in the Index Medicus-MEDLINE database and had its online collection published by the Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), expanding the reach of articles. In this period, the words that characterize the field of policy, planning, and management were clearly seen, and terms related to the epidemiological method emerged. The period of “diversity” (November 2012 to November 2023) introduced the requirement of an external editor to the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation’s staff among the three co-editors-in-chief, aiming to ensure editorial independence. New activities and a similar frequency among the five most common terms highlight such “diversity”. Several issues are observed in scientific publishing in 2024: non-commercial Open Science, artificial intelligence, appreciation of science, scientific dissemination, among others. Addressing new challenges in an ethical and transparent manner will allow future advances, maintaining CSP’s credibility among authors and readers and its commitment to improvements in the living and health conditions of populations.

Resumen: Cadernos de Saúde Pública (CSP) celebra 40 años de publicación continua en 2024. Este artículo analiza la trayectoria de la revista y hace proyecciones al futuro ante los retos contemporáneos de la publicación científica en el campo de la Salud Pública. El estudio se desarrolló a partir del análisis de los principales hitos de la política editorial y la identificación de los temas más publicados. Para ello, se dividieron en tres períodos. Al “comienzo” (1985 a 1990), la revista tenía una circulación restringida, con una periodicidad trimestral. En ese contexto, se destaca la palabra “epidemiología”. Después pasó al período de “consolidación” (1991 a octubre de 2012), en el que CSP se indexa en la base de datos Index Medicus-MEDLINE y tiene su colección en línea publicada por la Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), lo que amplió el alcance de los artículos en la academia. En aquel momento se volvió perceptible el conjunto de palabras que caracterizan el campo de la política, la planificación y la gestión, además de aparecer términos relacionados con el método epidemiológico. En el período de “diversidad” (noviembre de 2012 a noviembre de 2023), hubo una necesidad de incluir a un editor externo al equipo de la Fundación Oswaldo Cruz entre los tres coeditores en jefe para garantizar la independencia editorial. Las nuevas actividades y la frecuencia similar entre los cinco términos principales capturan la “diversidad”. La publicación científica para el 2024 aborda numerosos temas: Ciencia Abierta no comercial, inteligencia artificial, apreciación de la ciencia, difusión científica, entre otros. Afrontar los nuevos retos, de forma ética y transparente, permitirá futuros avances manteniendo la credibilidad de CSP junto a autores y lectores, y su compromiso con la mejora de las condiciones de vida y salud de la población.

Este artigo analisa a trajetória da revista e projeta o futuro diante dos desafios contemporâneos da publicação científica do campo da Saúde Coletiva. O estudo foi desenvolvido com base na análise dos principais marcos da política editorial e na identificação dos temas mais publicados. Três períodos foram delimitados. No “início” (1985 a 1990), a revista tinha circulação restrita, com periodicidade trimestral. A palavra “epidemiologia”, usada em contexto descritivo, se sobressai. Segue-se o período de “consolidação” (1991 a outubro de 2012), quando CSP é indexado na base bibliográfica Index Medicus-MEDLINE e tem seu acervo online publicado pela Scientific Electronic Library Online (SciELO), ampliando o alcance dos artigos junto à academia. Nesse momento, torna-se visível o conjunto de palavras que caracterizam o campo da política, do planejamento e da gestão, e surgem os termos relacionados ao método epidemiológico. O período “diversidade” (novembro de 2012 a novembro de 2023) apresenta a obrigatoriedade de um editor externo aos quadros da Fundação Oswaldo Cruz entre os três coeditores-chefes, visando garantir a independência editorial. Novas atividades e a frequência similar entre os cinco termos mais encontrados capturam a “diversidade”. Inúmeras questões permeiam a publicação científica em 2024: Ciência Aberta não comercial, inteligência artificial, valorização da ciência, divulgação científica, entre outros. Enfrentar os novos desafios, de forma ética e transparente, permitirá avanços futuros, mantendo a credibilidade de CSP junto a autores e leitores e seu compromisso com a melhoria das condições de vida e de saúde das populações.

ABSTRACT OBJECTIVE To analyze the incompleteness and trend of incompleteness of the race/color variable in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 whose outcome was death, in Brazil, between April 2020 and April 2022. METHODS Ecological time series study on the incompleteness of the race/color variable in hospitalizations due to COVID-19 whose outcome was death in Brazil, its macro-regions and Federative Units (FU), by joinpoint regression, calculation of Monthly Percent Change (MPC) and Average Monthly Percent Change (AMPC), based on data from the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH/SUS). RESULTS The incompleteness of the race/color variable in COVID-19 hospitalizations with a death outcome in Brazil was 25.85%, considered poor. All regions of the country had a poor degree of incompleteness, except for the South, which was considered regular. In the period analyzed, the joinpoint analysis revealed a stable trend in the incompleteness of the race/color variable in Brazil (AMPC = 0.54; 95%CI: -0.64 to 1.74; p = 0.37) and in the Southeast (AMPC = -0.61; 95%CI: -3.36 to 2.22; p = 0.67) and North (AMPC = 3.74; 95%CI: -0.14 to 7.78; p = 0.06) regions. The South (AMPC = 5.49; 95%CI: 2.94 to 8.11; p = 0.00002) and Northeast (AMP = 2.50; 95%CI: 0.77 to 4.25; p = 0.005) regions showed an increase in the incompleteness trend, while the Midwest (AMPC = -2.91 ; 95%CI: -5.26 to -0.51; p = 0.02) showed a downward trend. CONCLUSION The proportion of poor completeness and the stable trend of incompleteness show that there was no improvement in the quality of filling in the race/color variable during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil, a fact that may have increased health inequalities for the black population and made it difficult to plan strategic actions for this population, considering the pandemic context. The results found reinforce the need to encourage discussion on the subject, given that the incompleteness of health information systems increases inequalities in access to health services and compromises the quality of health data.

MÉTODOS Estudo ecológico de série temporal sobre a incompletude da variável raça/cor nas internações por covid-19 cujo desfecho foi óbito no Brasil, suas macrorregiões e Unidades Federativas (UF), pela regressão por joinpoint, cálculo da Monthly Percent Change (MPC) e Average Monthly Percent Change (AMPC), a partir de dados do Sistema de Informação Hospitalar do Sistema Único de Saúde (SIH/SUS). RESULTADOS A incompletude da variável raça/cor nas internações por covid-19 cujo desfecho foi óbito no Brasil foi 25,85%, considerada ruim. Todas as regiões do país tiveram grau de incompletude ruim, exceto a Região Sul, considerada regular. Os resultados encontrados reforçam a necessidade de fomentar a discussão sobre o tema, tendo em vista que a incompletude dos sistemas de informação em saúde amplia desigualdades no acesso aos serviços de saúde e compromete a qualidade dos dados em saúde.

Stemodin (1) is a diterpene produced by Stemodia maritima L. (Scrophulariaceae) and shows antiviral and tumor cell proliferation inhibitory activities. Chemical modifications of 1 were performed to produce the known stemodinone (2), two new stemodinone oximes, Z (3) and E (4), and seven new oxime esters derivatives (5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 11). All derivatives were evaluated for their cytotoxic activity in HL60 (promyelocytic leukemia), SNB-19 (astrocytoma), HCT-116 (colon carcinoma), and PC3 (prostate) human cancer cell lines, and L929 (healthy murine cells). Oximes 3 and 4 showed lower cytotoxic values than 1 against all cancer cell lines tested. Abstract Drosophila melanogaster is undoubtedly one of the most useful model organisms in biology. Initially used in solidifying the principles of heredity, and establishing the basic concepts of population genetics and of the synthetic theory of evolution, it can currently offer scientists much more: the possibility of investigating a plethora of cellular and biological mechanisms, from development and function of the immune system to animal neurogenesis, tumorigenesis and beyond. Extensive resources are available for the community of Drosophila researchers worldwide, including an ever-growing number of mutant, transgenic and genomically-edited lines currently carried by stock centers in North America, Europe and Asia. Here, we provide evidence for the importance of stock centers in sustaining the substantial increase in the output of Drosophila research worldwide in recent decades. We also discuss the challenges that Brazilian Drosophila scientists face to keep their research projects internationally competitive, and argue that difficulties in importing fly lines from international stock centers have significantly stalled the progression of all Drosophila research areas in the country. Resumo Uma espécie nova de Inpaichthys é descrita de um tributário do rio Canamã, bacia do rio Aripuanã, estado de Mato Grosso, Brasil. A espécie nova pode ser diagnosticada de suas congêneres por seu padrão de colorido em vida e por caracteres morfométricos e merísticos. Uma ampla análise filogenética de Characidae, conduzida para avaliar o posicionamento genérico da nova espécie, demonstrou que Hasemania nambiquara também é um membro do gênero Inpaichthys e esta espécie é aqui transferida a esse gênero. Abstract A new species of Inpaichthys is described from a tributary of the rio Canamã, rio Aripuanã basin, Mato Grosso State, Brazil. The new species can be diagnosed from its congeners by the color pattern in life and by morphometric and meristic features. A comprehensive phylogenetic analysis of the Characidae, conducted to assess the generic placement of the new species, revealed that Hasemania nambiquara is also a member of Inpaichthys and thus transferred to this genus. A monophyletic group composed of the three known species of Inpaichthys is hypothesized to be related to Nematobrycon and a clade composed of Carlana, Pseudochalceus, and Rhoadsia, among the taxa herein analyzed. ABSTRACT Objective: Mutations in DICER1 are found in differentiated thyroid carcinoma (DTC) and in multinodular goiter (MNG) at a younger age with other tumors, which characterizes DICER1 syndrome. DICER1 is one driver to DTC; however, it is also found in benign nodules. We speculated that patients with mutations in DICER1 may present long-lasting MNG. Our aim was to investigate the frequency of DICER1 variants in patients with MNG. Subjects and methods: Patients who submitted to total thyroidectomy due to large MNG with symptoms were evaluated. DICER1 hotspots were sequenced from thyroid nodule samples. To confirm somatic mutation, DNA from peripheral blood was also analyzed. Results: Among 715 patients, 154 were evaluated with 56.2 ± 12.3 years old (28-79) and the thyroid volume was 115.7 ± 108 mL (16.2-730). We found 11% with six DICER1 variations in a homo or heterozygous state. Only rs12018992 was a somatic DICER1 variant. All remaining variants were synonymous and likely benign, according to the ClinVar database. The rs12018992 was previously described in an adolescent with DTC, measuring 13 mm. There were no significant differences according to gender, familial history of goiter, age, thyroid volume, TSH and TI-RADS classification between DICER1 carriers. Free T4 were lower in patients with DICER1 polymorphisms (13.77 ± 1.8 vs. 15.44 ± 2.4 pmol/L, p = 0.008), regardless of TSH levels. Conclusions: We conclude that germline DICER1 variants can be found in 11% of large goiters but no second-hit somatic mutation was found. Abstract This article presents a parametric numerical study of the pullout behavior of headed bars embedded in concrete elements. The finite element model was developed using Abaqus software and validated to simulate the behavior of four pullout tests. The numerical results were validated against the experimental results and showed excellent agreement with the load-slip response and failure modes.
