BoHV1 BoHV . ABSTRACT: Echinacea angustifolia is a perennial plant that has been traditionally used to treat various microbial diseases. This study evaluated the in vitro antiviral properties of an ethanolic extract of E. angustifolia against bovine alphaherpesvirus 1 (BoHV-1). BoHV-1 infection is associated with respiratory, reproductive and neurological disease in cattle, resulting in major economic losses. When cells were treated with E. angustifolia extract at a non-cytotoxic concentration at different times (3, 6 or 24 hours) before BoHV-1 inoculation, no viral detection was possible after 72h, while in untreated cells the virus reached a titer of 105.5TCID50 /25µl (median). Incubating the extract with BoHV-1 24 hours before cell inoculation did not result in loss of viral infectivity. Cells infected with 103 TCID50 of BoHV-1 and not treated with E. angustifolia showed an average of 45.8% viability after 48 hours of infection, while 91.1% remained viable when treated 6 hours after or 84.1% 24 hours after infection, demonstrating a significant reduction in the cytopathic effect. In addition, E. angustifolia significantly reduced the relative mRNA expression of the antiviral cytokines IFNα and IFNβ in the treated cells, suggesting that the antiviral activity is not due to immunomodulation. The obtained data indicated that the ethanolic extract of E. angustifolia may directly interfere with virus attachment, entry, and/or egress from infected cells. Taken together, the presented data emphasized the promising antiviral activity of E. angustifolia against BoHV-1. ABSTRACT diseases E BoHV1. BoHV1 BoHV . Abstract Introduction: Cardiovascular disease is an important cause of death among patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). Valve calcification is a predictor of cardiovascular mortality and coronary artery disease. Objective: To assess heart valve disease frequency, associated factors, and progression in CKD patients. Methods: We conducted a retrospective study on 291 CKD patients at Hospital das Clínicas de Pernambuco. Inclusion criteria were age ≥ 18 with CKD and valve disease, while those on conservative management or with missing data were excluded. Clinical and laboratory variables were compared, and patients were categorized by dialysis duration (<5 years; 5–10 years; >10 years). Statistical tests, including chi-square, Fisher’s exact, ANOVA, and Kruskal-Wallis, were employed as needed. Simple and multivariate binary regression models were used to analyze valve disease associations with dialysis duration. Significance was defined as p < 0.05. Results: Mitral valve disease was present in 82.5% (240) of patients, followed by aortic valve disease (65.6%; 86). Over time, 106 (36.4%) patients developed valve disease. No significant association was found between aortic, pulmonary, mitral, or tricuspid valve disease and dialysis duration. Secondary hyperparathyroidism was the sole statistically significant factor for mitral valve disease in the regression model (OR 2.59 [95% CI: 1.09–6.18]; p = 0.031). Conclusion: CKD patients on renal replacement therapy exhibit a high frequency of valve disease, particularly mitral and aortic valve disease. However, no link was established between dialysis duration and valve disease occurrence or progression. Introduction CKD. .
Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) is a form of genetically caused heart muscle disease, characterized by the thickening of the ventricular walls. Diagnosis requires detection through imaging methods (Echocardiogram or Cardiac Magnetic Resonance) showing any segment of the left ventricular wall with a thickness > 15 mm, without any other probable cause. Genetic analysis allows the identification of mutations in genes encoding different structures of the sarcomere responsible for the development of HCM in about 60% of cases, enabling screening of family members and genetic counseling, as an important part of patient and family management. Several concepts about HCM have recently been reviewed, including its prevalence of 1 in 250 individuals, hence not a rare but rather underdiagnosed disease. The vast majority of patients are asymptomatic. In symptomatic cases, obstruction of the left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) is the primary disorder responsible for symptoms, and its presence should be investigated in all cases. In those where resting echocardiogram or Valsalva maneuver does not detect significant intraventricular gradient (> 30 mmHg), they should undergo stress echocardiography to detect LVOT obstruction. Patients with limiting symptoms and severe LVOT obstruction, refractory to beta-blockers and verapamil, should receive septal reduction therapies or use new drugs inhibiting cardiac myosin. Finally, appropriately identified patients at increased risk of sudden death may receive prophylactic measure with implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implantation.

Abstract Background There is a remarkable variability in the frequency of HLA-B27 positivity in patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA), which may be associated with different clinical presentations worldwide. However, there is a lack of data considering ethnicity and sex on the evaluation of the main clinical and prognostic outcomes in mixed-race populations. The aim of this study was to evaluate the frequency of HLA-B27 and its correlation with disease parameters in a large population of patients from the Brazilian Registry of Spondyloarthritis (RBE). Methods The RBE is a multicenter, observational, prospective cohort that enrolled patients with SpA from 46 centers representing all five geographic regions of Brazil. The inclusion criteria were as follow: (1) diagnosis of axSpA by an expert rheumatologist; (2) age ≥18 years; (3) classification according to ASAS axial. The following data were collected via a standardized protocol: demographic data, disease parameters and treatment historical. Results A total of 1096 patients were included, with 73.4% HLA-B27 positivity and a mean age of 44.4 (±13.2) years. Positive HLA-B27 was significantly associated with male sex, earlier age at disease onset and diagnosis, uveitis, and family history of SpA. Conversely, negative HLA-B27 was associated with psoriasis, higher peripheral involvement and disease activity, worse quality of life and mobility. Conclusions Our data showed that HLA-B27 positivity was associated with a classic axSpA pattern quite similar to that of Caucasian axSpA patients around the world. Furthermore, its absence was associated with peripheral manifestations and worse outcomes, suggesting a relevant phenotypic difference in a highly miscegenated population. ABSTRACT Background: Vectorial transmission through hematophagous triatomine insects remains the primary mode of Chagas Disease contagion. These insects have become increasingly common in urban environments. Therefore, this study aimed to report an encounter of triatomines with trypanosomatid infection in a vertical residential condominium in Rio Branco, the capital of the state of Acre, in the western Brazilian Amazon. Methods: Triatomines were collected from residents and sent to the municipality's Entomological Surveillance sector. Trypanosomatid positivity was evaluated using optical microscopy, followed by species and genotype identification using molecular biology techniques. Results: Twenty-five adult triatomine specimens were collected from two of three condominium buildings invading apartments from the 2nd to 13th floors. Six specimens were identified as Rhodnius sp. and 19 as R. montenegrensis. Among these, molecular tests were conducted on seven specimens, with five testing positive for Trypanosoma cruzi, all belonging to genotype TcI. Conclusions: These findings underscore the need for further studies to better understand the invasive capacity of these insects in these environments and the mechanisms involved in this process. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT Introduction: The traditional teaching model, in which the teacher is the mentor of the educational process and focuses on extensive lectures, is still quite prevalent in educational institutions at different levels of education. This scenario can be considered incongruent with the new technological era and new way of thinking. In contrast, gamification is an active methodology that aims to make the student the center of learning, aiming to increase their interest and improve content absorption. Objective: This study aims to analyze the perception of students attending the second semester of a medical course about the use of a game that covers the main concepts of renal physiology. Method: This is a descriptive, prospective study. The activity consisted of a dynamic that used a board game with cards about renal physiology for 104 students. Subsequently, a questionnaire with 11 questions was applied, mostly objective, whose main variables investigated were previous experience with gamification, the adequacy of the practical class duration, how they evaluated the use of gamification in the practical class, among others. Results: The results showed that most students stated that this type of methodology is stimulating (93.3%) and that it helps in the study of the proposed subjects (94.2%), consolidating the topics previously covered in the classroom using the traditional method. The students also pointed out that the best way to assimilate the content would be to add gamification, after the traditional method of dialogue exposition (61.5%). When asked about their perception of the use of gamification in practical classes, most students classified it as excellent (65.4%) or good (30.8%). Conclusion: Given the results presented herein, it can be concluded that gamification proved to be an excellent ally to the traditional theoretical class, serving as a mechanism for sedimentation and increased interest for students. ABSTRACT This study investigated the effects of manipulating the net height in 4 vs. 4 small-sided games on the tactical-technical performance of professional female volleyball athletes. Eight professional female athletes participated in this study, playing 4 vs. 4 small-sided games at three net heights: 2.15 m, 2.24 m, and 2.33 m. The technical-tactical actions (Specific Performance per Action, Specific Performance per Component, and General Performance) were analyzed through the IAD-VB. Results indicated that the lower net height favored the complex 0 actions (p=0.034; V=0.329), while the higher net height favored setting (p=0.001; V=0.449), attack (p=0.038; V=0.325), and defense (p<0.001; V=0.731) action structuring. Additionally, the net height was associated with the decision-making component (p=0.011; V=0.368), suggesting that this specific manipulation may affect the complexity of the decision-making process in the game setting. vs smallsided small sided tacticaltechnical tactical technical heights 215 2 15 2.1 m 224 24 2.2 233 33 2.3 technicaltactical Action Component IADVB. ABSTRACT. For a banana tree to reach its productive potential, plants must be nutritionally balanced. Therefore, it is important to use methods that diagnose the nutritional status of plants through chemical leaf analysis, considering the relationships between nutrients and taking advantage of productivity and nutritional monitoring data from orchards. This study aimed to establish norms and ranges of nutrient sufficiency for ‘Nanica’ banana trees in Vale do Ribeira, São Paulo state, using the Diagnosis and Recommendation Integrated System (DRIS) method. Productivity data and chemical analysis of the leaf tissue of 291 commercial plots of Nanica banana trees, collected between 2015 and 2020 in Vale do Ribeira, were used. The DRIS method was used to establish norms and sufficiency ranges for N, P, K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn. Fruit yield did not correlate with the average nutritional balance index (NBIa), indicating that its variation was affected by non-nutritional factors. The contents of K, Ca, Mg, S, B, Cu, Fe, Mn, and Zn showed high correlations with their respective nutritional indices. The sufficiency ranges and adequate nutrient contents differed from the values established for bananas in the literature. Abstract Background Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) are 4-6 times more frequent among men than among women, but prognosis tends to be worse in women. Objective To compare endovascular procedures to repair infrarenal AAA in men and women, using data from a prospective registry. Methods This registry collected data from five university hospitals in the state of São Paulo (Brazil) from 2012 to 2022. A cross-sectional study was conducted compiling demographic data, anatomic variables (aneurysm diameter, short neck, angulated neck, calcified neck, or thrombosed neck; distal neck < 1.5 cm, and tortuous, abnormal iliac arteries), complications (leaks, conversions, and patency or stenosis of branches) and renal failure and mortality at 30 days. The chi-square test and Student’s t test were applied with a 5% significance level. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee (process 4040-2011). Results A total of 152 (15.9%) of the patients were women and 799 (84.0%) were men (p < 0.05). The majority were white (80.2% of the women and 87.4% of the men). Diabetes and hypertension were significantly more frequent among the women. The most prevalent shape was fusiform, particularly among the women (95.39% vs. 89.86% among men). Mean diameter was smaller among the women (5.96 cm vs. 6.49 cm; p = 0.0056). The iliac arteries were less often involved among the women (89.40% vs. 73.58%; p = 0.00001). Blood loss was greater in the men (321.40 ml vs. 168.84 ml among the women; p < 0.05). Operative mortality was similar in both sexes, but obstructions were more frequent among the women (15.2% vs. 13.51%; p = 0.017296). Conclusions Aneurysmal diameter was smaller and obstructive complications were more frequent among women. Abstract Background Patients with immune-mediated rheumatic diseases (IMRDs) have been prioritized for COVID-19 vaccination to mitigate the infection severity risks. Patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) are at a high risk of severe COVID-19 outcomes, especially those under immunosuppression or with associated comorbidities. However, few studies have assessed the safety of the COVID-19 vaccine in patients with RA. Objective To evaluate the safety of vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 in patients with RA. Methods This data are from the study “Safety and Efficacy on COVID-19 Vaccine in Rheumatic Diseases,” a Brazilian multicentric prospective phase IV study to evaluate COVID-19 vaccine in IMRDs in Brazil. Adverse events (AEs) in patients with RA of all centers were assessed after two doses of ChAdOx1 (Oxford/AstraZeneca) or CoronaVac (Sinovac/Butantan). Stratification of postvaccination AEs was performed using a diary, filled out daily and returned at the end of 28 days for each dose. Results A total of 188 patients with RA were include, 90% female. CoronaVac was used in 109 patients and ChAdOx1 in 79. Only mild AEs were observed, mainly after the first dose. The most common AEs after the first dose were pain at the injection (46,7%), headache (39,4%), arthralgia (39,4%), myalgia (30,5%) and fatigue (26,6%), and ChAdOx1 had a higher frequency of pain at the injection (66% vs 32 %, p < 0.001) arthralgia (62% vs 22%, p < 0.001) and myalgia (45% vs 20%, p < 0.001) compared to CoronaVac. The more common AEs after the second dose were pain at the injection (37%), arthralgia (31%), myalgia (23%), headache (21%) and fatigue (18%). Arthralgia (41,4% vs 25%, p = 0.02) and pain at injection (51,4% vs 27%, p = 0.001) were more common with ChAdOx1. No serious AEs were related. With Regard to RA activity level, no significant difference was observed between the three time periods for both COVID-19 vaccines. Conclusion In the comparison between the two immunizers in patients with RA, local reactions and musculoskeletal symptoms were more frequent with ChAdOx1 than with CoronaVac, especially after the first dose. In summary, the AE occurred mainly after the first dose, and were mild, like previous data from others immunizing agents in patients with rheumatoid arthritis. Vaccination did not worsen the degree of disease activity. immunemediated immune mediated (IMRDs COVID19 COVID 19 COVID-1 risks (RA outcomes comorbidities However SARSCoV2 SARSCoV SARS CoV 2 SARS-CoV- Safety Diseases, Diseases Brazil (AEs ChAdOx Oxford/AstraZeneca OxfordAstraZeneca Oxford AstraZeneca (Oxford/AstraZeneca Sinovac/Butantan.

Abstract The objective was to analyze the development of strictu sensu productions that approach Technological Literacy in the field of Science Teaching in Brazil, considering the definition ant the conceptual parameters assumed in the last decade. For such, we performed an investigation in the National Library of Theses and Dissertations, between the years 2012 and 2022. In the data compilation, we selected 28 studies. For the corpus analysis, we used content analysis and lexical analysis, supported by the software Iramuteq. As results, three categories emerged: i) Definition of Technological Literacy; ii) Level of Education; and iii) Field and Region. We identified that the number of publications with this theme is still small, and there is some privilege for Scientific Literacy, in detriment of Technological Literacy in Science teaching. We point to the need of more theoretical and empirical studies on Technological Literacy that can contribute to the initial and continuing training of science teachers.
