In silico and in vitro tests can reveal promising anti-leishmania activity for natural products and their derivatives. The aim of this study was to investigate in silico the pharmacological activities of potential new chalcones and their leishmanicidal potential in vitro. The in silico study was carried out using the PASS, MolPredictX and Molegro Virtual Docker 6.0 programs. Antiparasitic activity was assessed in axenic promastigote and amastigote forms of Leishmania braziliensis. The cytotoxicity tests used the J77G8 cell line. The chalcones exhibited 50% cytotoxic concentration values (CC50) values > 50 μM. Chalcone 4 (named FERAI) presented the best activity with concentration for 50% of promastigotes and intracellular parasites forms (EC50) of 9.75 ± 1.7 and 10.13 ± 1.7 μM for promastigote and amastigote, respectively. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) testing presented increased ROS levels in the parasite at the FERAI concentrations of 10 μM (56.33%), 20 μM (61.76%) and 30 μM (67.13%). Molecular docking revealed interactions (binding energy) between FERAI and the enzymes UDP-glycosyl pyrophosphorylase (-56.8384), dihydroorotate-dehydrogenase (-132.276) and trypanothione-reductase (-151.281). Our results demonstrated the anti-leishmanial activity of chalcones, especially FERAI, with a noted raising of ROS levels in the parasite. RESUMO: A mastite bovina é a doença mais impactante na indústria de laticínios e é caracterizada por uma complexidade de agentes causais, os quais têm revelado uma variação geográfica entre regiões e países. Os patógenos relacionados à mastite têm sido tradicionalmente classificados como contagiosos ou ambientais, com base na fonte de infecção ou origem e nas vias de transmissão. Além disso, a gravidade das infecções mamárias tem sido associada à virulência dos patógenos, e ao estado imunológico e nutricional dos animais. Considerando esse cenário, investigamos os agentes etiológicos, os escores de gravidade clínica e os dados de dias em lactação (DEL) em 4.273 casos clínicos de mastite bovina em dez fazendas de grande porte, quatro localizadas no sudoeste do estado de São Paulo e seis no sul do Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil. Streptococcus dysgalactiae (283/4.273 = 6,6%), Escherichia coli (190/4.273 = 4,4%), Prototheca spp. (112/4.273 = 2,6%) e Streptococcus uberis (95/4.273 = 2,2%) foram os patógenos predominantes isolados. Entre os 4.273 casos clínicos, a pontuação de gravidade clínica estava disponível em 43,8% (1.871/4.273) dos animais. Desses, 69,8% (1.306/1.871), 27,3% (510/1.871) e 2,9% (55/1.871) foram classificados como leves, moderados e graves, respectivamente. Os patógenos foram observados principalmente em amostras obtidas durante os primeiros 100 dias em lactação, e a gravidade clínica foi principalmente classificada como leve. Nossos resultados contribuem para a identificação etiológica, a pontuação de gravidade clínica e os aspectos de ordenha de vacas com mastite em fazendas leiteiras com histórico de infecções mamárias clínicas. ABSTRACT: Bovine mastitis is the most impacting disease of dairy industry, and it is characterized by a complexity of causal agents, which have revealed a geographical variation among regions and countries. The mastitis-related pathogens have been traditionally classified as contagious or environmental, based on habits of the microorganisms and transmission routes. Besides, the severity of mammary infections has been associated with the virulence of the pathogens, and immune and nutritional status of the hosts. Considering this scenario, we investigated the etiological pattern, clinical severity scores, and days in milk (DIM) data in 4,273 clinical cases of bovine mastitis among ten large-dairy farms located in Brazil. Streptococcus dysgalactiae (283/4,273 = 6.6%), Escherichia coli (190/4,273 = 4.4%), Prototheca spp. (112/4,273 = 2.6%), and Streptococcus uberis (95/4,273 = 2.2%) were the predominant pathogens isolated. Among 4,273 clinical cases, clinical severity score was available in 43.8% (1,871/4,273) animals. From these, 69.8% (1,306/1,871), 27.3% (510/1,871), and 2.9% (55/1,871) were scored as mild, moderate, and severe, respectively. Pathogens were observed mainly in samples obtained during the first 100 days in milk, and clinical severity scored mainly as mild. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Genitourinary health significantly affects the quality of life of men, particularly those in middle age. Recent studies have shown that more than half of the men aged over 40 years experience some degree of low urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) or erectile dysfunction (ED). OBJECTIVE: To assess the prevalence of ED and LUTS in middle-aged men and correlate this with quality of life data. DESIGN AND SETTING: A cross-sectional study was conducted in a municipality in the countryside of São Paulo. METHODS: A trained team collected data between July 2021 and August 2022 through face-to-face interviews using a characterization instrument, International Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), International Index of Erectile Function-6 (IIEF-6), and World Health Organization Quality-of-Life Scale. RESULTS: The study included 375 male participants with a median age of 53 years (interquartile range [IQR] 38.5-66). The IIEF-6 showed the presence of some degree of ED in 51.1% (n = 188) of patients, with a median score of 25 (IQR 21-29). The IPSS revealed that 35.2% (n = 132) of the patients had some degree of LUTS, with a median score of 5 (IQR 2-11). The urological questionnaires had a direct proportional correlation with age (P < 0.001) and significant differences between the medians of different marital statuses (P < 0.001). The presence or severity of these disorders was inversely correlated with the individuals’ quality of life (P < 0.001). CONCLUSIONS: ED and LUTS significantly correlated with the quality of life, marital status, and age in men. BACKGROUND 4 (LUTS ED. . Abstract The goal of this research was to comprehend the interrelation between the strategizing process and the constitutive aspects of organizational routines. Employing a qualitative methodology, a case study was conducted at the Port Authority of Valencia. Data collection encompassed interviews, observation, and document analysis. Through the analysis of narratives and pattern matching, a permeable relationship between strategizing and routines was identified, indicating an inseparable amalgamation of their key constituents. The demarcation between the components of strategizing and organizational routines is faint, uncertain, and intertwined within an indivisible process. Conceptualizing organizational routines as a fusion of actors, processes, and strategic content, localized spatially and temporally where reasoning and action intersect contingent upon context, underscores the relevance of approaching strategy as a practice, thereby broadening its scope.

Resumen El objetivo de esta investigación fue comprender la interrelación entre el proceso de formación de la estrategia (strategizing) y los aspectos constitutivos de las rutinas organizativas. Se llevó a cabo una investigación cualitativa a través de un estudio de caso en la Autoridad Portuaria de Valencia, España. Los datos se recopilaron a partir de entrevistas, observación y revisión documental. Desde un análisis cualitativo de las narrativas y encuentro de patrones, se identificó una relación de permeabilidad entre strategizing y las rutinas que no permite la disociación de los elementos que la componen. La frontera entre los elementos constitutivos de la formación de la estrategia y las rutinas organizativas es tenue, incierta y estos aspectos están entrelazados en un proceso unísono e indivisible. Comprender las rutinas organizativas como la amalgama entre actores, proceso y contenido de la estrategia, el lugar espacial y temporalmente situado donde se establece el pensamiento y la acción, dependiente de su contexto e historia, sugiere la idea de que es razonable adoptar la perspectiva de la estrategia como práctica (strategizing) para ampliar su alcance.

Resumo As atividades de mariscagem e malacocultura produzem uma grande quantidade de resíduos sólidos compostos por conchas marinhas. O impacto ambiental do descarte inadequado pode ser atenuado com estratégias de reaproveitamento. O objetivo deste trabalho é investigar a viabilidade do uso de resíduo de conchas marinhas com substituintes parciais de agregados no concreto. As características físicas do agregado reciclado foram investigadas através das técnicas de Microscopia de Força Atômica (MFA) e Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura (MEV) a fim de esclarecer aspectos da superfície de contato com a pasta; as características químicas e mineralógicas foram investigadas por meio dos ensaios de fluorescência de raios-X e difração de raios-X; e o ensaio de resistência à compressão foi conduzido em amostras de concreto foram moldadas para avaliação do comportamento destes materiais do comportamento destes materiais como agregado (concha tipo A) e fíler (concha tipo B). Abstract The improper disposal of this waste poses environmental challenges, which can be addressed through effective reuse strategies. This study aims to explore the potential of utilizing marine shell waste as partial substitutes for aggregates in concrete. The research involves investigating the physical characteristics of the recycled aggregate using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) techniques to elucidate the contact surface with the paste. Additionally, chemical and mineralogical characteristics are analyzed through X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction tests. The compressive strength test is conducted on concrete samples to assess the performance of these materials as both aggregate (shell type A) and filler (shell type B). The findings indicate that replacing up to 20% of marine shells as coarse aggregate and 10% as filler demonstrates feasibility for applications in structural concrete. Resumo O estudo visa analisar a prevalência de estadiamento avançado ao diagnóstico do câncer do colo do útero e sua associação com indicadores individuais e contextuais socioeconômicos e de oferta de serviços de saúde no Brasil. Estudo transversal, realizado com casos de câncer do colo do útero em mulheres de 18 a 99 anos, no período de 2006 a 2015, extraídos do Integrador de Registros Hospitalares de Câncer. Variáveis contextuais foram coletadas no Atlas do Desenvolvimento Humano, no Cadastro Nacional de Estabelecimentos de Saúde e no Sistema de Informações Ambulatoriais. Usou-se o modelo de regressão de Poisson multinível com intercepto aleatório. A prevalência de diagnóstico em estádio avançado foi de 48,4%, apresentando associação com idades mais avançadas (RP 1,06; IC 1,01-1,10), raça/cor da pele preta, parda e indígena (RP 1,04; IC 1,01-1,07), menores níveis de escolaridade (RP 1,28; IC 1,16-1,40), ausência de parceiro conjugal (RP 1,10; IC 1,07-1,13), encaminhamento do tipo público ao serviço de saúde (RP 1,07; IC 1,03-1,11) e menor taxa de realização de exame citopatológico (RP 1,08; IC 1,01-1,14). Os resultados reforçam a necessidade de melhorias no programa nacional de prevenção do câncer do colo do útero em áreas com baixa cobertura da citologia oncótica. Abstract The scope of this study is to analyze the prevalence of advanced stage diagnosis of cervical cancer and its association with individual and contextual socioeconomic and healthcare service indicators in Brazil. A cross-sectional study was conducted using cervical cancer cases in women aged 18 to 99 years, from 2006 to 2015, extracted from the Hospital Cancer Registry (HCR) Integrator. Contextual variables were collected from the Atlas of Human Development in Brazil; the National Registry of Health Institutions (NRHI); and the Outpatient Information System. Multilevel Poisson Regression with random intercept was used. The prevalence of advanced stage diagnosis was 48.4%, revealing an association with older age groups (PR 1.06; CI 1.01-1.10), black, brown, and indigenous race/skin color (PR 1.04; CI 1.01-1.07), lower levels of schooling (PR 1.28; CI 1.16-1.40), no marital partner (PR 1.10; CI 1.07-1.13), public referral to the health service (PR 1.07; CI 1.03-1.11), and lower rates of cytological examination (PR 1.08; CI 1.01-1.14). The results reinforce the need for improvements in the national cervical cancer prevention program in areas with low coverage of oncotic cytology. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: The effect of weight loss (WL) on histopathological aspects of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) may provide further insights into the dynamics of hepatic recovery after WL. OBJECTIVE: To analyze the effects of pre-operative WL on insulin resistance- and NAFLD-related histology in individuals undergoing bariatric surgery (BS) with or without pre-operative WL. DESIGN AND SETTING: A matched cross-sectional study was conducted at a public university hospital and a private clinic in Campinas, Brazil. METHODS: An analytical, observational, cross-sectional study was conducted using prospectively collected databases of individuals who underwent BS and liver biopsy at either a public tertiary university hospital (with pre-operative WL) or a private clinic (without pre-operative WL). Random electronic matching by gender, age, and body mass index (BMI) was performed and two paired groups of 24 individuals each were selected. RESULTS: Of the 48 participants, 75% were female. The mean age was 37.4 ± 9.6. The mean BMI was 38.9 ± 2.6 kg/m2. Fibrosis was the most common histopathological abnormality (91.7%). Glucose was significantly lower in the WL group (92 ± 19.1 versus 111.8 ± 35.4 mg/dL; P = 0.02). Significantly lower frequencies of macrovesicular steatosis (58.3% versus 95.8%; P = 0.004), microvesicular steatosis (12.5% versus 87.5%; P < 0.001), and portal inflammation (50% versus 87.5%; P = 0.011) were observed in the WL group. CONCLUSION: Pre-operative WL was significantly associated with lower frequencies of macro- and mi- crovesicular steatosis, portal inflammation, and lower glycemia, indicating an association between the recent trajectory of body weight and histological aspects of NAFLD. RESUMO Contexto: Em estudos observacionais sobre a síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo, sugeriu-se que a driving pressure é o principal fator de lesão pulmonar induzida por ventilador e de mortalidade. Não está claro se uma estratégia de limitação da driving pressure pode melhorar os desfechos clínicos. Objetivo: Descrever o protocolo e o plano de análise estatística que serão usados para testar se uma estratégia de limitação da driving pressure envolvendo a titulação da pressão positiva expiratória final de acordo com a melhor complacência respiratória e a redução do volume corrente é superior a uma estratégia padrão envolvendo o uso da tabela de pressão positiva expiratória final baixa do protocolo ARDSNet, em termos de aumento do número de dias sem ventilador em pacientes com síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo devido à pneumonia adquirida na comunidade. Métodos: O estudo STAMINA (ventilator STrAtegy for coMmunIty acquired pNeumoniA) é randomizado, multicêntrico e aberto e compara uma estratégia de limitação da driving pressure com a tabela de pressão positiva expiratória final baixa do protocolo ARDSnet em pacientes com síndrome do desconforto respiratório agudo moderada a grave devido à pneumonia adquirida na comunidade internados em unidades de terapia intensiva. Esperamos recrutar 500 pacientes de 20 unidades de terapia intensiva brasileiras e duas colombianas. Eles serão randomizados para um grupo da estratégia de limitação da driving pressure ou para um grupo de estratégia padrão usando a tabela de pressão positiva expiratória final baixa do protocolo ARDSnet. No grupo da estratégia de limitação da driving pressure, a pressão positiva expiratória final será titulada de acordo com a melhor complacência do sistema respiratório. Desfechos: O desfecho primário é o número de dias sem ventilador em 28 dias. Os desfechos secundários são a mortalidade hospitalar e na unidade de terapia intensiva e a necessidade de terapias de resgate, como suporte de vida extracorpóreo, manobras de recrutamento e óxido nítrico inalado. ABSTRACT Background: Driving pressure has been suggested to be the main driver of ventilator-induced lung injury and mortality in observational studies of acute respiratory distress syndrome. Whether a driving pressure-limiting strategy can improve clinical outcomes is unclear. Objective: To describe the protocol and statistical analysis plan that will be used to test whether a driving pressure-limiting strategy including positive end-expiratory pressure titration according to the best respiratory compliance and reduction in tidal volume is superior to a standard strategy involving the use of the ARDSNet low-positive end-expiratory pressure table in terms of increasing the number of ventilator-free days in patients with acute respiratory distress syndrome due to community-acquired pneumonia. Methods: The ventilator STrAtegy for coMmunIty acquired pNeumoniA (STAMINA) study is a randomized, multicenter, open-label trial that compares a driving pressure-limiting strategy to the ARDSnet low-positive end-expiratory pressure table in patients with moderate-to-severe acute respiratory distress syndrome due to community-acquired pneumonia admitted to intensive care units. We expect to recruit 500 patients from 20 Brazilian and 2 Colombian intensive care units. They will be randomized to a driving pressure-limiting strategy group or to a standard strategy using the ARDSNet low-positive end-expiratory pressure table. In the driving pressure-limiting strategy group, positive end-expiratory pressure will be titrated according to the best respiratory system compliance. Outcomes: The primary outcome is the number of ventilator-free days within 28 days. The secondary outcomes are in-hospital and intensive care unit mortality and the need for rescue therapies such as extracorporeal life support, recruitment maneuvers and inhaled nitric oxide. Resumo Fundamento A obesidade está associada ao desenvolvimento de doenças cardiovasculares e constitui um grave problema de saúde pública. Em modelos animais, a alimentação com uma dieta hiperlipídica (DH) compromete a estrutura e a função cardíaca e promove estresse oxidativo e apoptose. O treinamento resistido (TR), entretanto, tem sido recomendado como coadjuvante no tratamento de doenças cardiometabólicas, incluindo a obesidade, porque aumenta o gasto energético e estimula a lipólise. Objetivo Na presente revisão sistemática, nosso objetivo foi avaliar os benefícios do TR no coração de ratos e camundongos alimentados com DH. Métodos Foram identificados estudos originais por meio de busca nas bases de dados PubMed, Scopus e Embase de dezembro de 2007 a dezembro de 2022. O presente estudo foi conduzido de acordo com os critérios estabelecidos pelo PRISMA e registrado no PROSPERO (CRD42022369217). O risco de viés e a qualidade metodológica foram avaliados pelo SYRCLE e CAMARADES, respectivamente. Os estudos elegíveis incluíram artigos originais publicados em inglês que avaliaram desfechos cardíacos em roedores submetidos a mais de 4 semanas de TR e controlados por um grupo controle sedentário alimentado com DH (n = 5). Resultados Os resultados mostraram que o TR atenua o estresse oxidativo cardíaco, a inflamação e o estresse do retículo endoplasmático. Também modifica a atividade de marcadores de remodelamento estrutural, apesar de não alterar parâmetros biométricos, parâmetros histomorfométricos ou a função contrátil dos cardiomiócitos. Abstract Background Obesity is associated with the development of cardiovascular diseases and is a serious public health problem. In animal models, high-fat diet (HFD) feeding impairs cardiac structure and function and promotes oxidative stress and apoptosis. Resistance exercise training (RT), however, has been recommended as coadjutant in the treatment of cardiometabolic diseases, including obesity, because it increases energy expenditure and stimulates lipolysis. Objective In this systematic review, we aimed to assess the benefits of RT on the heart of rats and mice fed HFD. Methods Original studies were identified by searching PubMed, Scopus, and Embase databases from December 2007 to December 2022. This study was conducted in accordance with the criteria established by PRISMA and registered in PROSPERO (CRD42022369217). The risk of bias and methodological quality was evaluated by SYRCLE and CAMARADES, respectively. Eligible studies included original articles published in English that evaluated cardiac outcomes in rodents submitted to over 4 weeks of RT and controlled by a sedentary, HFD-fed control group (n = 5). Results The results showed that RT mitigates cardiac oxidative stress, inflammation, and endoplasmic reticulum stress. It also modifies the activity of structural remodeling markers, although it does not alter biometric parameters, histomorphometric parameters, or the contractile function of cardiomyocytes. Abstract Among the potential feed additives, β-glucans are known to positively affect the growth performance, blood parameters, and intestinal microbiota of fish, even the ornamental species. Therefore, the present study evaluated the effects of the dietary supplementation of different Saccharomyces cerevisiae β-glucans concentrations (0, 0.05, 0.1, and 0.2%) in juvenile angelfish (Pterophyllum scalare) over a 42-day period. Regarding growth performance, no effects were observed on most parameters. However, 0.2% β-glucans supplementation produced higher condition factor values, indicating a better nutritional status. Furthermore, β-glucans supplementation did not affect blood parameters. Regarding intestinal microbiota, β-glucans supplementation increased the abundance of the potentially beneficial bacterial genus Phascolarctobacterium. The high abundance of bacteria from the phylum Bacteroidetes, which can degrade β-glucans, may be attributed to the increased abundance of Phascolarctobacterium spp. In addition, 0.2% β-glucans supplementation produced more operational taxonomic units and higher Sobs (observed species richness), indicating effects on the overall bacterial community structure. RESUMO Introdução: Cicatrizes hipertróficas e queloides são tipos de cicatrizes excessivas de cicatrização anormal da pele. Galectina-3 (gal-3) é uma proteína da família das lectinas capaz de identificar carboidratos, que podem se combinar e atuar em diversas moléculas. Na literatura, a ação da gal-3 como principal agente regulador da fibrogênese já foi descrita, sendo atualmente utilizada na terapia antifibrótica de diversos órgãos como pulmão e fígado. O objetivo deste estudo piloto foi mostrar resultados preliminares encontrados na expressão de gal-3 em cicatrizes exacerbadas. Método: Foram coletadas 20 amostras de biópsias de cicatrizes excessivas (16 queloides e 4 cicatrizes hipertróficas) e 9 amostras de cicatrizes normais de 22 mulheres e 7 homens. Essas amostras foram processadas para análise histopatológica de rotina por imuno-histoquímica para detectar gal-3. As células positivas para gal-3 foram quantificadas pelo método estereológico utilizando uma grade de 36 pontos. Resultados: A imuno-histoquímica mostrou alta expressão de gal-3 em células endoteliais e epiteliais de todas as amostras de cicatrizes, bem como expressão em células distribuídas pela derme. Maior expressão de gal-3 foi encontrada em amostras de queloides (28% de células positivas) em comparação com cicatrizes normais (18%) e hipertróficas (22%) (p = 0,0075). Os resultados foram obtidos de um pequeno número de pacientes, por se tratar de um estudo piloto. Conclusão: Os dados sugerem que a gal-3 participa do processo de cicatrização e, devido à sua maior presença em amostras de queloides, pode ser um potencial biomarcador para formação de queloides e um alvo terapêutico promissor a ser explorado. ABSTRACT Introduction: Hypertrophic scars and keloids are types of excessive scars from abnormal skin healing. Galectin-3 (gal-3) is a protein from the lectin family capable of identifying carbohydrates, which can combine and act on different molecules. In the literature, the action of gal-3 as the main regulatory agent of fibrogenesis has already been described and is currently used in anti-fibrotic therapy for various organs such as the lung and liver. The objective of this pilot study was to show preliminary results found in the expression of gal-3 in exacerbated scars. Method: Twenty biopsy samples from excessive scars (16 keloids and 4 hypertrophic scars) and 9 samples from normal scars were collected from 22 women and 7 men. These samples were processed for routine histopathological analysis by immunohistochemistry to detect gal-3. Gal-3 positive cells were quantified by the stereological method using a 36-point grid. Results: Immunohistochemistry showed high expression of gal-3 in endothelial and epithelial cells of all scar samples, as well as expression in cells distributed throughout the dermis. Higher gal-3 expression was found in keloid samples (28% positive cells) compared to normal (18%) and hypertrophic (22%) scars (p = 0.0075). The results were obtained from a small number of patients, as this was a pilot study. Conclusion: The data suggest that gal-3 participates in the healing process and, due to its greater presence in keloid samples, it may be a potential biomarker for keloid formation and a promising therapeutic target to be explored. Resumo Na Mata Atlântica, as distribuições de espécies não são uniformes. O bioma foi dividido em 8 sub-regiões biogeográficas, como o Centro de Endemismo de Pernambuco (CEP), no nordeste do Brasil. A Floresta Nacional de Nísia Floresta (Flona) é uma área protegida situada no município de Nísia Floresta, no Estado do Rio Grande do Norte, abrigando vegetação nativa (Mata Atlântica e "Restingas ou Tabuleiros"), bem como áreas em regeneração, com parcelas experimentais de plantas exóticas para produção de madeira. Aqui, apresentamos, pela primeira vez, uma lista de espécies da herpetofauna levantada na Flona ao longo dos últimos 10 anos, utilizando uma amostragem padronizada e de longo prazo, juntamente encontros visuais e ocasionais. Realizamos levantamentos mensais em toda a área utilizando 84 armadilhas de queda distribuídas aleatoriamente em 21 conjuntos ao longo das três zonas fitogeográficas da floresta (Restinga, Mata Atlântica e Regeneração). Além disso, caracterizamos a diversidade da herpetofauna terrestre nessas três zonas ao longo de um ano inteiro. Coletamos um total de 39 espécies de répteis (entre lagartos, serpentes, quelônios, crocodilianos e anfisbênios) e 24 espécies de anfíbios. A família mais frequente encontrada para os répteis foi Dipsadidae, seguida por Colubridae. Para anfíbios, Leptodactylidae foi a mais comum, seguida por Hylidae. A diversidade da herpetofauna em áreas de regeneração é menor do que em florestas, que por sua vez são marginalmente menos diversas do que a Restinga. Descritores da comunidade, como equidade, presença de espécies exclusivas e diferenças em abundâncias e composição indicam que estratégias de manejo distintas para cada área são necessárias para esta área protegida. Abstract In the Atlantic Forest, species distributions are not uniform. The biome has been divided into 8 biogeographic sub-regions, such as the Pernambuco Center of Endemism (PCE), in northeastern Brazil. Nísia Floresta National Forest (Flona) is a protected area situated in the municipality of Nísia Floresta, Rio Grande do Norte state, harboring native vegetation (Atlantic Forest and "Restingas or Tabuleiros") as well regenerating areas, with experimental plots of exotic plants for timber production. Herein, we present, for the first time, a species list of the herpetofauna surveyed at Flona over the past 10 years, using a standardized, long-term sampling design along with visual encounter surveys. We conducted monthly surveys across the area using 84 pitfall traps randomly distributed in 21 arrays throughout the forest's three phytogeographic zones (Restinga, Atlantic Forest, and Regeneration). In addition, we characterized ground-dwelling herpetofauna community diversity across these three zones over the course of an entire year. We collected a total of 39 species of reptiles (among lizards, snakes, chelonians, alligators, and amphisbaenians) and 24 species of frogs. The most frequent family found for reptiles was Dipsadidae, followed by Colubridae. In frogs, Leptodactylidae was the most common, followed by Hylidae. Herpetofaunal diversity in regeneration areas is smaller than forests, which in turn are marginally less diverse than the Restinga. Community descriptors such as equity, presence of exclusive species, and differences in abundances and composition indicate that distinct management strategies for each zone are needed for this protected area. Abstract In the past decade, machine learning techniques were responsible for a revolution in classification and regression tasks, making it possible to automate some laborious activities, saving time and reducing errors. It is known that the geological logging process is one of the most time-consuming activities accomplished by mining companies. Additionally, it is a subjective activity, and changes in the staff directly affect the geological databases due to different human log interpretation. By developing an automatic log classifier, a company can avoid problems related to the turnover of the staff by standardizing the criteria used to label an interval and can save time by avoiding manual log description. The proposed solution is: given the well log data containing the coordinates, resistivity and natural gamma, the model will be able to predict the presence or absence of coal, and its lithology. The innovation of the methodology proposed, considers not only the geophysical logging values, but additionally inserts the neighbourhood of a given depth as valuable input information, using Fully Convolutional Network. It performs a semantic segmentation using the well log data, which means that model´s input is the complete well log data curve and the trained model will return an output curve giving the probability of the presence of coal, by interval. The results showed good prediction for the binary problem (F1-score 0.79).
