ABSTRACT There is increasing interest in ultrasound-guided ablation treatments for thyroid diseases, including benign and malignant ones. Surgeons, radiologists, and endocrinologists carry out these treatments, and various organizations within these specialties have recently released multiple international consensus statements and clinical practice standards. The aim of the present consensus statement is to provide guidance, cohesion, and standardization of best practices for thermal ablation procedures of thyroid nodules. The statement includes the indications for these procedures, preprocedural evaluations, technical aspects of the procedures, posttreatment care, follow-up, complications, and training recommendations. This document was written by a panel of specialists from the Brazilian Society of Interventional Radiology and Endovascular Surgery (SOBRICE), the Brazilian Society of Head and Neck Surgery (SBCCP), and the Brazilian Society of Endocrinology and Metabolism (SBEM). The statement does not aim to provide criteria for assessing the capability of specialists to perform the procedure. Instead, it aims to promote the standardization of best practices to reduce potential adverse outcomes. Additionally, it strives to enhance the delivery of high-quality care and the widespread adoption of these technologies on a national level. The recommendations collectively serve as a guidebook for applying best practices in thyroid ablation. ultrasoundguided ultrasound guided diseases ones Surgeons radiologists standards guidance cohesion nodules evaluations followup, followup follow up, up follow-up complications SOBRICE, SOBRICE , (SOBRICE) SBCCP, SBCCP (SBCCP) SBEM. ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT The safflower is an oleaginous plant belonging to the Asteraceae family. It is used as a raw material for various purposes. These plants are popular for the quality and quantity of oil produced and, and thus, studying their genetic variability using markers is necessary for determining genetic resources to conduct breeding programs. Therefore, we evaluated the genetic variability of safflower genotypes using Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) molecular markers. The study was conducted at the State University of Mato Grosso “Carlos Alberto Reyes Maldonado”, in the Campus of Cáceres-MT. In total, 121 safflower genotypes from the Germplasm collection were evaluated using 21 SSR markers. The programs GenAlEx 6.5, GENES, and Structure were used to analyze the data. We identified 158 alleles at 21 loci among the genotypes. The expected heterozygosity (He) was high (0.551 - 0.804), but the observed heterozygosity (Ho) was low (0.000 - 0.502), and the indices of the endogamy coefficient (F) were positive in all loci and all populations, with an overall average of 0.958. The genetic differentiation (FST) values among populations were low, with an average of 0.010, which suggested a low population structure. The modified Tocher clustering and the UPGMA hierarchical clustering yielded 19 and 15 distinct groups, respectively. The genetic structure showed two populations, with few intermixes in the genome. The evaluated safflower genotypes showed genetic variability, and these genetically different variants might be used in breeding programs to obtain cultivars adapted to Brazil. family purposes thus Therefore (SSR Carlos Maldonado, Maldonado , Maldonado” CáceresMT.
ABSTRACT The common bean, a legume of significant economic importance, is renowned for its extensive genetic variability. It is crucial to comprehend genetic diversity, analyze population structure, and understand relationships among commercial classes of accessions to facilitate genetic improvement. This study aimed to molecularly characterize 143 common bean accessions by employing 25 SSR molecular markers. The objectives were to estimate genetic diversity, analyze genetic structure, and cluster populations using the UPGMA and PCoA methods. A total of 105 alleles were amplified using microsatellite loci, and the observed heterozygosity was lower than expected across all loci, indicating inbreeding within the populations. Among the loci, 22 were highly informative, demonstrating their effectiveness and polymorphism in detecting genetic diversity. The genetic variability within the population was found to be the highest, while variation between populations was the lowest. The analysis of population structure revealed the presence of three populations with a notable rate of gene introgression. The UPGMA analysis categorized the accessions into 15 groups, but they did not form distinct clusters based on their geographic regions or gene pool. The first two principal coordinates accounted for 13.95% of the total variation among the accessions. The SSR markers employed effectively detected genetic variability among the common bean accessions, revealing that their genetic diversity was not correlated with their geographic distribution in this study. importance improvement 14 2 methods 10 loci informative highest lowest introgression 1 groups pool 1395 13 95 13.95 139 9 13.9 13.

Ruminant milk is the lead source of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) in the human diet, with cis-9, trans-11 CLA being the major among all. Small amounts of trans-10, cis-12 CLA are also found in synthetic supplements. Since both isomers are biologically active with potential health benefits, there is great interest in quantifying them for quality control routines. An alternative method for the analysis of the aforementioned CLAs by fast gas chromatography (GC) is discussed in the present study. The fatty acid methyl ester mixture obtained by alkaline catalysis was injected into a GC equipped with a fame ionization detector (FID) and fitted with an ionic liquid SLB-IL111 chromatographic column (15 m × 0.10 mm × 0.08 µm). Separation was achieved in less than 5 min using a 168 °C isotherm run. Both CLA isomers were quantified by using of single point standard addition statistical approach. Results were contested to those obtained using the recommended 100 m long CP-Sil88 capillary column and none evidence of significant differences was found within 95% confidence interval. Therefore, the proposed method could be valuable to focused regulatory routines of large numbers of samples with greater analytical frequency.
ABSTRACT Objective Determine complications’ incidence and risk factors in high-energy distal femur fractures fixed with a lateral locked plate. Methods Forty-seven patients were included; 87.2% were male, and the average age was 38.9. The main radiographic parameters collected were distal lateral femoral angle (DFA), distal posterior femoral angle (DPLF), comminution length, plate length, screw working length, bone loss, and medial contact after reduction and plate-bone contact, location of callus formation, and implant failure. The complications recorded were nonunion, implant failure, and infection. Results Complex C2 and C3 fractures accounted for 85.1% of cases. Open fractures accounted for 63.8% of cases. The mean AFDL and AFDP were 79.8 4.0 and 79.3 6.0, respectively. The average total proximal and distal working lengths were 133.3 42.7, 60.4 33.4, and 29.5 21.8 mm, respectively. The infection rate was 29.8%, and the only risk factor was open fracture (p = 0.005). The nonunion rate was 19.1%, with longer working length (p = 0.035) and higher PDFA (p = 0.001) as risk factors. The site of callus formation also influenced pseudoarthrosis (p = 0.034). Conclusion High-energy distal femoral fractures have a higher incidence of pseudoarthrosis and infection. Nonunion has greater working length, greater AFDL, and absence of callus formation on the medial and posterior sides as risk factors. The risk factor for infection was an open fracture. Level of Evidence III; Retrospective Cohort Study.

Abstract Background: Mucopolysaccharidosis type II, also known as Hunter syndrome, is a rare X-linked recessive disorder caused by deficiency of the lysosomal enzyme Iduronate-2- Sulfatase (IDS), leading to progressive accumulation of Glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) in several organs. Over the years, Enzyme Replacement Therapy (ERT) has provided significant benefits for patients, retarding the natural progression of the disease. Results: The authors evaluated 17 patients from the same family with a mild form of MPS type II; the proband had developed acute decompensated heart failure refractory to clinical measurements at 23 years and needed a rather urgent heart transplant; however, he died from surgical complications shortly after the procedure. Nevertheless, subsequent to his tragic death, 16 affected male relatives were detected after biochemical tests identifying the low or absent activity of the IDS enzyme and confirmed by molecular analysis of the IDS gene. Following diagnosis, different options of treatment were chosen: 6 patients started ERT with Elaprase® (Idursulfase) soon after, while the other 10 remained without ERT. Eventually, 4 patients in the latter group began ERT with Hunterase® (Idursulfase Beta). None presented adverse effects to either form of the enzyme. Among the 6 individuals without any ERT, two died of natural causes, after reaching 70 years. Despite the variable phenotype within the same family (mainly heart dysfunctions and carpal tunnel syndrome), all 14 remaining patients were alive with an independent lifestyle. Conclusion: Here, the authors report the variable progress of the disease with and without ERT in a large Brazilian family with a slowly progressive form of MPS II, harboring the same missense variant in the IDS gene.

Abstract Slipped capital femoral epiphysiolysis (SCFE) may result in femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) of the hip in up to one third of the cases. Residual deformity of the cam-type, or “pistol-grip”, is associated with chondrolabral injury, resulting in pain, functional disability, and early osteoarthritis. The arthroscopic treatment with osteochondroplasty proved to be beneficial in a selected case of FAI secondary to SCFE.

ABSTRACT The characterization of steel fiber reinforced concrete with dry consistency require greater inspection the account of the particularities in the process of mixing, molding and densification, thus this paper aims to propose a methodology combined of densification by manual and mechanical means and the mechanical characterization by the three-point flexural testin prismatic dry cast steel fiber-reinforced concrete specimen. In a qualitative way, the densification-combined methodology provided a smooth surface on the specimen appearance and a reduction of voids due to trapped air. In the flexural test we verified slip-softening and slip-hardening, respectively, to lower and higher reinforcement indexes and theoretical volumes. By the analysis of variance of the results and the database we found out that there was no significant statistical difference to the analyzed residual strength for the combination of the test method (RILEM), consistency (plastic), type (hooked end) and form (glued), when the comparison is made by quadruple association.

ABSTRACT The aim of the present study was to analyse the composition and spatiotemporal distribution of the benthic macrofauna in the estuary of the Perizes River (state of Maranhão, Brazil). Biological and environmental samples were collected at five sampling sites along the estuary during six campaigns covering the months of September, October and November 2016 (dry period) and February, March and April 2017 (wet period). Sampling was performed with a van Veen grab sampler (682cm2). Environmental variables as temperature, pH, salinity, dissolved oxygen, saturation and water transparency were measured and related to the biological data at each sampling site. After collection the samples were sieved through a 0.5 mm mesh and the organisms fixed in a 10% formaline solution. A total of 35,597 individuals belonging to 84 taxa were identified, corresponding to Insecta, Mollusca, Crustacea, Annelida, Nematoda, Nemertea, Sipuncula and Collembola. Polychaeta showed the greatest species richness, while Tanaidacea were the most abundant. No gradient was found throughout the sampling sites with regard to the environmental variables, but marked differences were found in the temporal distribution. The temporal distribution of the benthic macrofauna was influenced by salinity and rainfall. Oligochaeta and Tanaidacea were abundant at all sampling sites. Acari were abundant in the inner portion of the estuary, while the number of Ostracoda was very high in the outer portion. The structure of the macrobenthic community differed in composition from the majority of the studies on estuaries, with the dominance of Tanaidacea and Oligochaeta. The higher abundance of Tanaidacea is related to environments rich in fine sediments with organic matter and the occurrence of this characteristics was determinant for the distribution of other taxa. The results indicate that the wet period favours the establishment of the benthic community, as evidenced by the increase in diversity and equitability.
