RESUMO: O objetivo foi avaliar parâmetros hematológicos e bioquímicos após teste em novo ambiente, e o desempenho zootécnico de Oreochromis niloticus classificado como proativo ou reativo. No experimento 1, machos de tilápia do Nilo com peso médio de 128,33 ± 34,17 g foram mantidos em sistema de recirculação de água (RAS). Imediatamente após a classificação, foram coletadas amostras de sangue de 20 animais reativos e 20 proativos. No experimento 2 foram classificados 60 machos proativos e 60 reativos, com peso médio de 88,23 ± 21,59 g, os quais foram divididos nos seguintes tratamentos: PT (40 animais proativos), RT (40 reativos) MT (20 proativos + 20 reativos). Os animais foram alimentados duas vezes ao dia durante 90 dias. No experimento 1, os animais reativos apresentaram maior hemoglobina e cortisol e menor quantidade de leucócitos. No experimento 2, o ganho em peso foi maior nos animais proativos (PT) e nos animais reativos (RT); porém, a melhor conversão alimentar foi obtida nos animais reativos. A taxa de sobrevivência foi menor no grupo de animais do tratamento MT. Já a hemoglobina e a glicose tiveram valores inferiores para os animais proativos e para aqueles que estavam misturados, no grupo MT. O colesterol foi superior nos animais PT. Conclui-se que variáveis como hemoglobina, cortisol, leucócitos e colesterol têm maior probabilidade de sofrer alterações entre traços de personalidade. ABSTRACT: To evaluate hematological and biochemical parameters after testing in a new environment, and the zootechnical performance of Oreochromis niloticus classified as proactive or reactive. This study analyzed federal government management of the National Policy for Comprehensive Men's Health Care (PNAISH) from a critical historical perspective. We analyzed documents addressing the policy implementation process between 2009 and 2024 contained in the archives of the National Office for the Coordination of Men’s Healthcare (COSAH). The content analysis resulted in the following thematic categories: COSAH organization and management; the PNAISH review process; and challenges and key strategic areas for implementing the PNAISH. We found weaknesses in the institutionalization of coordination, in addition to a policy review in 2021 marked by neoconservative discourse excluding gender and sexual and reproductive rights. These epistemological principles of the PNAISH were revisited in 2023, stemming from actions to improve the quality of primary care addressing the effects of machismo and patriarchy on men’s, women’s and children’s health. Abstract Objectives In the clinical routine of pediatricians, height is the most reliable indicator for assessing growth. However, there are situations where it is not possible to measure this parameter directly, making the estimation of height or length a useful alternative. The main goal of this study is to identify which segmental measure, including upper arm length (UAL), tibial length (TL), and knee-heel length (KHL), provides the stature estimate that most closely approximates directly measured height in the study participants. Methods Analytical cross-sectional study of the anthropometric and segmental measures of 248 participants, aged 0 to 14 years old, using Stevenson's and Kihara's equations to estimate indirectly measured height. Results The segmental measure that provided a measurement that deviated the least from the actual height was the KHL, followed by TL, both calculated using Stevenson's equations. RESUMO: O Clostridioides difficile é uma bactéria Gram-positiva estritamente anaeróbica e formadora de esporos, associada à diarreia e conhecida como infecção por C. difficile (CID). Em animais domésticos, o C. difficile é considerado um patógeno importante principalmente em porcos e cavalos, mas também há relatos em outras espécies domésticas. Em animais selvagens, a epidemiologia do C. difficile é amplamente desconhecida, e o papel da bactéria como causa de diarreia não está claro. O objetivo deste estudo foi determinar a prevalência do C. difficile nas fezes de animais selvagens encaminhados ao Centro de Medicina e Pesquisa em Animais Selvagens (CEMPAS). Amostras de fezes obtidas de 100 animais de 34 espécies diferentes foram submetidas à qPCR para a detecção do gene 16S rRNA do C. difficile e dois principais genes de toxina (tcdA e tcdB), além de isolamento bacteriano anaeróbico. Um total de 63 animais (63%) foram positivos para C. difficile por qPCR, e 16 isolados foram recuperados. O gambá (Didelphis spp.) apresentou o maior número de animais positivos em ambos os testes (de 21 amostras, 19 foram positivas na qPCR, e quatro isolados foram recuperados). ABSTRACT: Clostridioides difficile is a strictly anaerobic, spore-forming Gram-positive bacterium associated with diarrhea, known as C. difficile infection (CDI). In domestic animals, C. difficile is considered an important pathogen mostly in pigs and horses, but there are also reports in other domestic species. In wild animals, the epidemiology of C. difficile is largely unknown, and the role of the bacterium as a cause of diarrhea is unclear. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of C. difficile in the feces of wild animals referred to the Center of Medicine and Research in Wild Animals (CEMPAS). Fecal samples obtained from 100 animals of 34 different species were subjected to qPCR for the detection of the C. difficile 16S rRNA gene and two major toxin genes (tcdA and tcdB) and to anaerobic bacterial isolation. A total of 63 animals (63%) were positive for C. difficile by qPCR, and 16 isolates were recovered. The opossum (Didelphis spp.) had the highest number of positive animals in both tests (from 21 samples, 19 were qPCR positive, and four isolates were recovered). RESUMO Objetivos: compreender vivências de sofrimento moral de enfermeiros relacionadas à sobrecarga de trabalho durante a pandemia de COVID-19 no Brasil. Métodos: pesquisa qualitativa, cuja coleta de dados ocorreu através de entrevistas individuais com 19 enfermeiros que atuaram na linha de frente da COVID-19 em serviços de saúde da região Sudeste do Brasil. Os dados foram analisados mediante análise temática de conteúdo. Resultados: a sobrecarga de trabalho mostrou-se potente fonte para vivências de sofrimento moral devido à jornada de trabalho excessiva na vacinação, à dupla jornada de trabalho, à relação conturbada por pressão de gestores e população e ao esgotamento físico e mental, os quais impediam o enfermeiro de agir conforme o seu julgamento. ABSTRACT Objectives: to understand nurses’ experiences of moral distress related to work overload during the COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil. Methods: qualitative research, whose data collection occurred through individual interviews with 19 nurses who worked on the front line of COVID-19 in health services in southeastern Brazil. Data were analyzed using thematic content analysis. ABSTRACT Sampling is an essential step in estimating a parameter: thus, cost and time associated to this step should be minimized. Sequential sampling is characterized by using samples of variable sizes given as a function of observations, and sequential sampling provides a smaller sample size than a fixed-size sample in most cases. In addition, the Bayesian decision theory can be incorporated into sequential sampling to perform parameter estimation because it allows the inclusion of a priori information about the parameter of interest, which optimizes the procedure. However, the great challenge to performing the Bayesian sequential estimation in establishing the stopping criteria. Most studies in this area investigate binomial distributions, while few analyze multinomial distributions. This study aimed to define the stopping criteria for the Bayesian sequential estimation of the parameters of multinomial distributions with conjugate Dirichlet priors. The proposed methodology was applied to a set of X-ray test data for quality control of maize seed lots. This test uses conventional sampling techniques in which a sample has a fixed size with 200 seeds. The influence of two priors on the stopping criteria was evaluated, one uniform and one conjugate, with hyperparameters based on reference information from the literature. Resumo Este artigo pretende discutir o impacto da participação no programa Studienreise, uma viagem acadêmico-cultural à Alemanha financiada pelo DAAD para 15 estudantes de Letras-Alemão da Universidade de São Paulo. O projeto para o pedido da verba para a viagem foi desenvolvido por uma docente da USP e realizado em cooperação com quatro universidades alemãs nas cidades de Berlim, Leipzig e Jena, além do engajamento ativo das estudantes envolvidas no programa. Para compreender as consequências da participação no projeto, a partir da perspectiva das estudantes, realizamos duas coletas de dados anônimas (antes e depois da viagem) por meio de questionários online. Este levantamento teve o intuito de averiguar o impacto da participação no programa tendo em vista os seguintes conhecimentos e experiências prévias e posteriores: língua e cultura alemã; objetivos individuais; motivação e participação; perspectivas futuras profissionais e pessoais. Os resultados indicam a grande relevância do envolvimento de estudantes de Letras-Alemão em programas como a Studienreise no que tange os seus conhecimentos e perspectivas profissionais, acadêmicas e individuais. Abstract This article aims at discussing the impact on students from participating in the Studienreise program, an academic-cultural travel to Germany, funded by DAAD, in which fifteen students from the German undergraduate course at the Universidade de São Paulo (USP) participated. The project which the group submitted for funding was developed by an USP professor and accomplished both with the cooperation of four German universities (in Berlin, Leipzig and Jena), and the active engagement of students. To understand the impact of participating in the project, from the students’ perspectives, two online forms for data collection were employed (before and after the trip). They aimed at verifying the impact of participating in the program considering the subsequent knowledge and previous and subsequent experiences with regard to: German language and culture; individual objectives; motivation and participation; future professional and personal perspectives. The results indicate the relevance of the German course students’ engagement in programs such as Studienreise regarding their knowledge and professional, academic and individual perspectives. Abstract Objective Gender differences may interfere with the association between Negative Life Events (NLEs) and prevalent/incident depression. This study evaluated the effect of gender in this association using data from the ELSA-Brazil cohort. Methods The authors analyzed 15,088 participants (mean age, 52.1 (9.1), 54.4 % women). NLEs (robbery, hospitalization, death of a close relative, financial hardship, and rupture of a love relationship) were accessed at baseline. Depression was assessed at baseline and follow-ups. The authors built logistic (Odds Ratio [OR], 95 % Confidence Interval [95 % CI]) and Poisson regression models (Relative Risk [RR], [95 % CI]) to evaluate this association. Results Women reported more NLEs compared to men. The authors found associations between NLEs and prevalent depression: for men, hospitalization (OR = 1.83; 95 % CI 1.16‒2.91), financial hardship (OR = 2.42; 95 % CI 1.69‒3.49), rupture of a love relationship (OR = 2.54; 95 % CI 1.50‒4.29), and any NLE (OR = 2.30; 95 % CI 1.59‒3.35); and for women, robbery (OR = 1.81; 95 % CI 1.31‒2.49), hospitalization (OR = 1.46; 95 % CI 1.11‒1.92), financial hardship (OR = 1.76; 95 % CI 1.43‒2.17), rupture of a love relationship (OR = 1.66; 95 % CI 1.20‒2.32), and any NLE (OR = 1.65; 95 % CI 1.34‒2.04). Abstract Genetic, epigenetic and environmental factors play an important role in the genesis of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2D). In the genetic context, one of the strategies used to investigate possible associations with diabetes is the search for Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms (SNPs), involving the comparison of alelle frequencies, the phenotypic variations and other relevant factors, such as environmental influences and lifestyle choices, Thus, the aim of this study was to find the relationship of risk variants for T2D in SNPs (rs4994) in the ADRB3 gene; (rs1799854) in the ABCC8 gene; (rs7901695 and rs12255372) in the TCF7L2 gene; and (rs8050136) in the FTO gene in a sample of the population of the municipality of Santarém (PA), Brazilian Amazon, in the northern region of Brazil. Resumo A Serra do Ibitipoca ocorre no sudeste do estado de Minas Gerais, sudeste do Brasil, e inclui um mosaico de diferentes tipos de vegetação, como parte do domínio da Mata Atlântica. Tal heterogeneidade é resultado da ocorrência de diversos ecótonos na região, considerados áreas de amortecimento essenciais para manutenção da biodiversidade e estrutura de ecossistemas adjacentes. Dada a importância destes ambientes para conservação da biodiversidade, inventários florísticos são importantes para catalogar a riqueza de plantas em áreas naturais, onde espécies e paisagens têm sido destruídas, especialmente nas últimas décadas. Para contribuir com o aumento do conhecimento sobre a Flora vascular na Serra do Ibitipoca, um inventário florístico foi conduzido em áreas privadas adjacentes ao Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca. Abstract The Ibitipoca Mountains occur in southeastern Minas Gerais state, Southeast Brazil, and includes a mosaic of different vegetation types, as part of the Atlantic Forest domain. Such heterogeneity results in the occurrence of several ecotones in the region, considered essential buffer zones for maintaining biodiversity and structure among adjacent ecosystems. Given the importance of these environments for biodiversity conservation, floristic surveys are important to catalogue plant richness in natural areas, where species and landscapes have been destroyed, especially over the last decades. To contribute to increase the knowledge on the vascular Flora in the Ibitipoca Mountains, a floristic inventory was undertaken in private properties located in the boundaries of “Parque Estadual do Ibitipoca” (Ibitipoca State Park). Abstract Background Brazil had high COVID-19 lethality/mortality with multiple social inequalities, where color/race was highly relevant, especially in Rio de Janeiro. Therefore, we hypothesize that COVID-19 hospitalized patients with a highly socially vulnerable background would have more significant in-hospital mortality. Objective To analyze the socioeconomic factors of social vulnerability and their association with COVID-19 mortality. Methods This work was a prospective study of 274 confirmed adult COVID-19 hospitalized patients in the University Hospital of Clementino Fraga Filho (HUCFF). The clinical features/blood chemistry information were collected from the clinical record. The ArcGIS Pro Software (Esri Gis mapping software, Redlands California-US) and a Python-based algorithm were used to determine in-app/in-map variable management relevance to the socioeconomic variables, inequity markers, and vulnerability. Our study also analyzed the transfers from other primary care institutions to our hospital in order to examine its potential delays in advanced medical care. Logistic regression and ROC curve were used to investigate in-hospital mortality for our statistical analysis. ABSTRACT: This study aims to analyze the beliefs and knowledge of specialized educational assistance teachers about the clinical characteristics of Autism Spectrum Disorder and its influence on learning. The cross-sectional study was conducted in two stages. The first stage is descriptive, with exploratory data analysis, and the second with an almost experimental pre- and post-test type design. The participants were 65 Special Education teachers, men, and women, currently working in the state schools of Pernambuco in the Sertão do Médio São Francisco Region. We used a structured questionnaire as a data collection instrument based on the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders 5th edition criteria and following the Guidelines of Special Education for Specialized Educational Care in K-12 education (special education modality). The results show that teachers have knowledge gaps about the disorder's clinical manifestations. ABSTRACT Purpose: To describe an experimental surgical model in rats using a dual-plane technique for evaluation of biomaterials in an in-vivo silicone implant coverage. Methods: This study was developed following the ISO 10993-6 standard. In this study, 40 male Wistar rats weighing between 250 and 350 g were used, distributed into two groups: experimental, biomaterial superimposed on the minimammary prosthesis (MP); and control, MP without implantation of the biomaterial, with eight animals at each biological point: 1, 2, 4, 12, and 26 weeks. Thus, at the end of biological points (1, 2, 4, 12, and 26 weeks; n = 8 animals per week), the tissue specimens achieved were fixed in buffered formalin and stained with hematoxylin-eosin. Results: Macroscopically, throughout the study, no postoperative complications were apparent. RESUMO Objetivo: Conhecer a prevalência da deficiência visual em crianças de escolas públicas pré-selecionadas, bem como analisá-la e intervir nela. Métodos: O estudo foi realizado em quatro etapas. Durante a primeira e segunda etapa, houve capacitação de profissionais escolares e discentes de medicina em triagem visual para, em um terceiro momento, esses realizarem a acuidade visual de crianças dos primeiros anos do Ensino Fundamental. As crianças com alteração de acuidade receberam encaminhamento oftalmológico para diagnóstico e intervenção. Resultados: Das 450 crianças triadas, 64 (14,22%) foram encaminhadas para exame oftalmológico completo, das quais 52 (81,25%) compareceram à consulta. Destas, 37 (71,1%) apresentaram erros refrativos como principal causa da deficiência visual. Dezenove (51,35%) foram diagnosticadas com miopia, 9 (17,3%) com hipermetropia e 9 (17,3%) com astigmatismo, sendo encaminhadas e orientadas ao seguimento oftalmológico. Conclusão: A prevalência de erros refrativos na população infantil de escolas públicas municipais foi a principal causa de deficiência visual. ABSTRACT Objective: To know the prevalence of visual impairment in children from pre-selected public schools, as well as to analyze and intervene in it.
