RESUMO Diferentes metodologias são descritas na literatura para tratamento de efluentes industriais. Entretanto, a maioria dos processos não são totalmente eficientes quando o efluente apresenta baixo conteúdo de partícula coloidal suspensa e alta concentração de matéria orgânica e detergentes. Entre os métodos que são estudados para eliminar detergente e matéria orgânica de efluentes industriais, o processo Fenton é uma estratégia atraente. No presente estudo, foi aplicada uma metodologia para remoção de detergente de efluentes líquidos utilizando processo Fenton com ultrassom e prego reutilizado. A otimização de parâmetros para tratamento do efluente foi realizada por meio das análises de pH, detergente, cor, turbidez, demanda química de oxigênio, demanda bioquímica de oxigênio, óleos e graxas, e sólidos suspensos. Os melhores resultados foram obtidos em pH 3,5, com 90 mg L−1 de peróxido de hidrogênio e um prego de ferro (2,7g) tanto para o processo Fenton como para o Fenton com ultrassom. Nessas condições, os valores de remoção de detergente foram de 99,4%. Em pH 2,5, 4,5 e 5,5, os valores obtidos para remoção de detergente foram menores, 75,2, 89,5, 68,4%, respectivamente. Resultados semelhantes foram obtidos para cor, turbidez, demanda química de oxigênio e demanda bioquímica de oxigênio. A reutilização dos pregos mostrou que a eficiência média na remoção de detergente até o quarto ciclo foi acima de 90%, e, a partir do quinto ciclo, observou-se uma diminuição gradativa, sendo a diferença entre o primeiro e o sexto ciclo em torno de 10%.

ABSTRACT Different methodologies are described in the literature for the industrial effluents treatment. However, most processes are not fully efficient when the effluent has low suspended colloidal particle content and high concentration of organic matter and detergents. Among the methods that are studied to eliminate detergent and organic matter from industrial effluents, the Fenton process is an attractive strategy. In the present study, a more sustainable methodology was applied to remove detergent and organic matter from liquid effluents using Fenton process with ultrasound and recycled nail. The optimization of parameters for effluent treatment was carried out through the analysis of pH, detergents, color, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, oils and greases, and suspended solids. The best results were obtained at pH 3.5, with 90 mg L−1 of hydrogen peroxide and an iron nail (2.7 g) both for the Fenton process and Fenton with ultrasound. Under these conditions, detergent removal values were 99.4%. At pH 2.5, 4.5, and 5.5, the values obtained for detergent removal were lower, 75.2, 89.5, and 68.4%, respectively. Similar results were obtained for color, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, and biochemical oxygen demand. The reuse of the nails showed that the average detergent removal efficiency up to the fourth cycle was above 90%, and, from the fifth cycle, a gradual decrease was observed, with the difference between the first and sixth cycles being around 10%.

Resumo A aquicultura é uma das atividades que desempenha um papel importante no abastecimento de alimentos ricos em proteínas, atendendo à crescente demanda por pescados. No entanto, a aquicultura é considerada uma atividade potencialmente poluidora, principalmente ao que se refere a poluição hídrica, devido ao descarte indevido de efluentes provenientes do processo produtivo. Os efluentes aquícolas são ricos em nutrientes (amônia, nitrato, nitrito e fósforo) e matéria orgânica, e comumente são lançados no meio ambiente sem o devido tratamento, podendo causar uma série de impactos ambientais e agravar a crise hídrica vivenciada na atualidade. Devido à importância e à necessidade de reduzir os impactos ambientais, planejar de forma eficiente a utilização dos recursos hídricos e alcançar um processo produtivo eficiente e sustentável, muitos pesquisadores têm focado seus estudos em técnicas de tratamento de efluentes voltadas para remoção desses nutrientes. Sendo assim, este artigo visa apresentar uma revisão atualizada das principais técnicas físico-químicas e biológicas, utilizadas na remoção de nutrientes, que podem mitigar os problemas ambientais provenientes da atividade aquícola e contribuir para sua sustentabilidade.

Abstract Aquaculture plays an important role in providing protein-rich foods, meeting the growing demand for fish. However, aquaculture is a potentially polluting activity, especially with regard to water pollution, due to the improper disposal of wastewater from the production process. Aquaculture wastewater is rich in nutrients (ammonia, nitrate, nitrite and phosphorus) and organic matter, and is commonly discharged into the environment without proper treatment. This can cause a series of environmental impacts and aggravate the current water crisis. Due to the importance and need to reduce environmental impacts, plan the use of water resources and achieve an efficient and sustainable production process, many researchers have focused their studies on effluent treatment techniques designed to remove these nutrients. This article therefore presents an updated review of the main physicochemical and biological techniques used in the removal of nutrients, which can mitigate environmental problems arising from aquaculture activities and contribute to the sustainability of the activity.

Resumo A produção de suínos envolve a produção de efluentes líquidos com elevada carga de poluentes. Embora os sistemas biológicos apresnetem eficiência satisfatória para o tratamento destes efluentes eles demandam elevada área para instalação e elevada produção de lodo biológico. Neste sentido, processos oxidativos vêm se apresnetando como uma alternativa para o tratamento de efluentes desta natureza, requerendo menor área e aumentando a eficiência do tratamento. No presente estudo, foi utilizado o processo Fenton assistido com ultrassom no tratamento de efluentes de frigorífico de suínos. Como fonte de ferro, foi empregado prego usado em construção civil. Foi estudado a influência do pH, tempo de contato, massa de prego e concentração de peróxido de hidrogênio na remoção de cor, turbidez, demanda química de oxigênio (DQO) e demanda bioquímica de oxigênio (DBO5). Foram ainda avaliadas as remoções de nutrientes e óleos e graxas. Os melhores resultados utilizando o processo Fenton assistido por ultrasson foram obtidos em pH 3, concentração de peróxido de hidrogênio 90 mg L-1 e uma unidade de prego (2,7g). Nestas condições foram alcançadas remoção de cor, turbidez, DQO e DBO5 de 98, 98,2, 84,6 e 98%, respectivamente. A redução nos demais parâmetros avaliados foi acima de 70%. Foi ainda avaliada a reutilização do prego, sendo que a atividade catalítica foi mantida acima de 90% até o sexto ciclo de utilização. De forma geral, o processo Fenton assitido por ultrasson e utilizando prego como catalisador apresenta-se como uma alternativa para o tratamento de efluentes de suinocultura. Esta proposta e de tratamento é responsável por elevada remoção de carga orgânica e nutrientes em um tempo inferior ao observado para sistemas biológicos.

Abstract Pork production involves the generation of wastewater containing a high pollutant load. Although the biological systems show satisfactory efficiency for the treatment of these effluents, they demand an elevated area for installation and high production of biological sludge. Alternatively, oxidative processes are an alternative for treating such effluents, requiring minor areas and increasing the efficiency of the treatment. We studied the Fenton process assisted with ultrasound for the treatment of swine slaughterhouse wastewater. Nails used in civil construction were used as the iron source. We evaluated the influence of pH, contact time, nail mass, and hydrogen peroxide concentration on color removal, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand (COD) and biochemical oxygen demand (BOD5). The removal of nutrients and oils and greases was also evaluated. The best results using the ultrasound-assisted Fenton process were obtained at pH 3, hydrogen peroxide concentration 90 mg L-1, and a nail unit (2.7g). In these conditions, color, turbidity, COD, and BOD5 removal of 98, 98.2, 84.6, and 98%, respectively, were achieved. The reduction in the other parameters evaluated was above 70%. Catalytic activity maintained above 90% until the sixth cycle of use. In general, the ultrasound-assisted Fenton process using the nail as a catalyst would be an alternative for the treatment of swine slaughterhouse wastewater. This alternative is responsible for the higher removal of organic load and nutrients in a shorter time when compared with biological systems.

Resumo As cinzas volantes de carvão, geradas em uma usina termelétrica, foram utilizadas para sintetizar zeólita por tratamento hidrotérmico com solução de hidróxido de sódio. A zeólita sintetizada foi utilizada como adsorvente de metais (Fe e Mn) e do corante azul de metileno em água. A caracterização da zeólita, mostrou que o óxido de silício é o principal composto na sua composição, seguido pelo alumínio, ferro, sódio e cálcio, que juntos correspondem a mais de 86% da sua composição. Estas foram utilizadas para investigar os parâmetros cinéticos de adsorção e a isoterma dos metais e do corante azul de metileno em soluções aquosas. Três modelos cinéticos, pseudo-primeira ordem, pseudo-segunda ordem e difusão intrapartícula foram utilizados para prever as constantes da taxa de adsorção. A cinética de adsorção do corante e dos metais seguiram a cinética de pseudo-segundo ordem e, atingiram o equilíbrio em 15 minutos com uma taxa de remoção 99% para os metais, independentemente do pH. Os valores das constantes de difusão (K2) para o ferro em pH 5, 7 e 8 foram 1,3158; 1,3881 e 0,6053 mg.g-1.min-1 e para o manganês 1,2511; 1,5239 e 1,4336 mg.g-1.min-1, respectivamente. Para o azul de metileno a taxa de remoção foi de 90% e o valor da constante (K2) foi de 0,5437 mg.g-1.min-1. Os estudos também mostraram a existência de diferentes estágios na adsorção dos metais e do corante azul de metileno em zeólita.

Abstract The fly ash of coal, generated in a thermoelectric plant, was used to synthesize zeolite by hydrothermal treatment with a sodium hydroxide solution. The zeolite synthesized was used as an adsorbent of metals (Fe and Mn) and of the methylene blue dye in water. The characterization of the zeolite showed that silicon oxide is the main compound in its composition, followed by aluminum, iron, sodium and calcium, which together correspond to more than 86% of its composition. These were used to investigate the kinetic parameters of adsorption and the isotherm of the metals and the methylene blue dye in aqueous solutions. Three kinetic models, pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order and intraparticle diffusion were used to predict adsorption rate constants. The adsorption kinetics of the dye and metals followed the pseudo-second order kinetics and reached equilibrium in 15 minutes with a 99% removal rate for metals, independently of the pH. The values of the diffusion constants (K2) for iron in pH 5, 7 and 8 were 1.3158; 1.3881 e 0.6053 mg.g-1.min-1 and for manganese 1.2511; 1.5239 and 1.4336 mg.g-1.min-1, respectively. For methylene blue, the removal rate was 90% and the constant (K2) value was 0.5437 mg.g-1.min-1. The studies showed the existence of different stages in the adsorption of the metals and the methylene blue dye in zeolite.

Este trabalho descreve o desempenho de um reator Fenton em grande escala usado para remoção de fenol em uma planta de valorização dos resíduos da indústria de papel e celulose. O efluente consiste em óleo vegetal e fenol. A estação de tratamento objetiva tratar 4 m3 h-1 e é constituída por um pré-tratamento para remoção de óleo, reator Fenton, Flotador de Ar Dissolvido - FAD e uma lagoa de aeração. Para a avaliação da estação de tratamento foram comparadas análises próprias do efluente com análises feitas em laboratório certificado. A eficiência global de remoção de fenol é maior do que 99,7%. Foi demonstrado que a combinação do processo de oxidação avançada com o biológico constitui-se em um sistema de tratamentos interessante a fim de remover contaminantes recalcitrantes.

This paper describes the performance of a Fenton reactor on an industrial scale applied to the removal of phenols in a waste recovery plant from the pulp and paper industry. The effluent consists of vegetal oil and phenol. The treatment plant is designed to treat 4 m3 h-1 and consists of a pre-treatment for oil removal, a Fenton reactor and an extended aeration tank. Internal and external analyses of the effluent were performed in order to evaluate the treatment plant. The overall efficiency of phenol removal was higher than 99.7%. It was demonstrated that the combination of biological and advanced oxidative process is a promising method of removing recalcitrant contaminants.

The immobilization of laccase on chitosan by cross-linking and application of the immobilized laccase in the bioconversion of phenolic compounds in batch and fixed bed reactors were studied. The process for immobilization of enzyme was optimized using a rotational central composite design. The optimized conditions to generate immobilized laccase with maximal activity were determined to be a glutaraldehyde concentration of 1.0% (v/v), a pH of 6.0, an immobilization time of 5.0 hours and an enzyme concentration of 5.2 g L-1. In packed bed reactors, the activity of the immobilized enzyme is maintained for a longer time in the bioconversion of 2,6-dimethoxyphenol than in the bioconversion of syringaldazine.

The application of Lipozyme (Termomyces lanuginosus) immobilized in gelatin gel in aliphatic ester synthesis was investigated taking the esterification of hexanoic acid with n-butanol as a model reaction. Conditions were optimized by factorial design and the highest conversion was obtained under the following conditions: molar ratio alcohol: acid of 2:1, reaction time of 48 h and biocatalyst weight of 7.0 g. Under these conditions the esterification yield was around 98 %. The operational stability of the immobilized lipase was assessed and results showed that after 12 batch runs, the enzyme showed no significant loss of activity.

Nesse trabalho foi estudada a produção do éster alifático octanoato de n-pentila por esterificação direta usando a enzima Lipozyme TL IM como catalisador, sendo esse éster usado como aroma na indústria de alimentos. Foi verificada a influência da concentração inicial de substratos na velocidade inicial da reação, sendo esta determinada através do consumo de ácido octanoico ao longo do tempo. Modelos cinéticos clássicos descritos na literatura não se ajustaram bem aos dados experimentais. A máxima velocidade da reação foi alcançada a 40 ºC. In this work, the production of the aliphatic ester n-amyl octanoate by direct esterification using the enzyme Lipozyme TL IM as catalyst was studied. The influence of the initial concentration of the substrate on the initial rate of reaction was verified. The initial rate of the reaction was determined by the octanoic acid consumption over time. The kinetic models described in the literature did not fit to the experimental data. The maximum rate was reached at 40 ºC. Lipozyme TL IM was inhibited by the initial concentration of the substrate

Lipases have been immobilized in microemulsion-based organogels (MBG's) and successfully utilized for the enantioselective esterification, diesterification and transesterification reactions, in organic solvents at 25ºC. This methodology is described as a new alternative for the use of enzymes in organic solvents. High enzymic stability has been observed. We have also used this methodology for the successful resolution of chiral secondary alcohols. This is a convenient way of using this catalyst in organic solvents which employs small amounts of the enzyme (250mg/mL).
