RESUMO Embora o Brasil tenha avançado significativamente no mapeamento de solos, especialmente em comparação a outros países da América Latina, os mapas detalhados que auxiliam no manejo de precisão ainda são escassos. Este estudo analisou a variabilidade espacial do solo em uma fazenda de café no Cerrado brasileiro, avaliando a eficácia de dados de sensoriamento proximal e remoto para a criação de mapas detalhados que possibilitem a agricultura de precisão. Foram coletadas amostras de solo em diferentes profundidades e analisadas quanto à textura, fertilidade e composição elementar por meio de fluorescência de raios-X portátil (pXRF). Adicionalmente, atributos de terreno, gerados a partir de um modelo digital de elevação, foram utilizados para investigar a relação com as características do solo. Os resultados mostraram que os elementos associados ao material de origem do solo, como Fe, Si, Ti, Al e Ca, foram mais eficientes na diferenciação das classes de solo do que as variações topográficas. Observou-se uma predominância de Cambissolos Háplicos (CX), que se destacam pelo menor teor de argila e presença de cascalhos, sugerindo uma necessidade reduzida de corretivos e adubações quando comparados aos Latossolos Vermelhos (LV), o que pode representar economia para os produtores. ABSTRACT Brazil has made notable advances in soil mapping compared to other Latin American countries, driven by collaborative efforts from federal agencies, research institutions, and universities. However, detailed soil maps remain limited, particularly at local scales. This study explored soil spatial variability in a coffee plantation located in the Brazilian Cerrado, assessing the effectiveness of integrating proximal and remote sensing data to create detailed soil maps that support precision agriculture. Soil samples were collected from multiple depths across the study area and analyzed for texture, fertility, and elemental composition using portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF). Additionally, terrain attributes derived from a digital elevation model were examined to understand their relationship with soil properties. Abstract Polyamide (PA) is a well-known and researched thermoplastic due to its excellent mechanical and physical properties, making it developed in the automotive sector, suitable for lighter vehicles, and, consequently, lower fuel consumption. This review manuscript presents the applications of PA-based materials in the manufacture of vehicle parts, with a description of their processing, a discussion about their thermal properties and the crystallization of polymer structure, the challenges of machining PA-based composite materials, and the feasibility of recyclability. This work aims to revise literature about the use of polyamide 6 (PA6), polyamide 66 (PA66), and polyamide 12 (PA12) and their composites reinforced with fiberglass (FG) and carbon fiber (CF) focused on the potential that these materials have as alternative materials for the automotive industry.

RESUMO A espectrometria portátil de fluorescência de raios-X (pXRF) tem sido útil em todo o mundo para determinar o teor dos elementos no solo em condições de campo e de laboratório. No entanto, os resultados obtidos em campo podem ser influenciados por vários fatores, como umidade (U), textura (T) e matéria orgânica do solo (MOS). Assim, o objetivo deste trabalho foi criar modelos matemáticos lineares para a conversão dos teores dos elementos obtidos por pXRF em campo para resultados obtidos em laboratório, i.e., na Terra Fina Seca ao Ar (TFSA), utilizando U, T e MOS como variáveis auxiliares, uma vez que elas influenciam as leituras. As análises com pXRF foram realizadas em 12 perfis de solo com diferentes materiais de origem, seguidas por coleta de 59 amostras. Leituras com pXRF foram realizadas também em laboratório em amostras de TFSA. Os dados de pXRF obtidos em campo foram utilizados sozinhos ou combinados aos dados de U, T e MOS como variáveis auxiliares, para criar modelos de regressão linear para predição dos resultados de pXRF em TFSA. A acurácia dos modelos foi calculada pelo método leave-one-out cross-validation. À exceção de elementos mais leves, as leituras de campo com pXRF subestimaram o teor total dos elementos. Modelos de predição incluindo T apresentaram maior acurácia na predição de Al2O3, SiO2, V, Ti e Zr, enquanto a predição dos teores de Fe e K2O foi insensível à adição das variáveis auxiliares. A melhora relativa (MR) nos modelos de predição foi maior nas predições de SiO2 (T+MOS: MR = 22,29%), V (U+T: MR = 18,90%) e Ti (T+MOS: MR = 11,18%). Este trabalho demonstrou que é possível a correção dos dados de pXRF obtidos em campo através de modelos de regressão linear.

ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometry has been useful worldwide for determining soil elemental content under both field and laboratory conditions. However, the field results are influenced by several factors, including soil moisture (M), soil texture (T) and soil organic matter (SOM). Thus, the objective of this work was to create linear mathematical models for conversion of Al2O3, CaO, Fe, K2O, SiO2, V, Ti and Zr contents obtained by pXRF directly in field to those obtained under laboratory conditions, i.e., in air-dried fine earth (ADFE), using M, T and SOM as auxiliary variables, since they influence pXRF results. pXRF analyses in field were performed on 12 soil profiles with different parent materials. From them, 59 samples were collected and also analyzed in the laboratory in ADFE. pXRF field data were used alone or combined to M, T and SOM data as auxiliary variables to create linear regression models to predict pXRF ADFE results. The models accuracy was assessed by the leave-one-out cross-validation method. Except for light-weight elements, field results underestimated the total elemental contents compared with ADFE. Prediction models including T presented higher accuracy to predict Al2O3, SiO2, V, Ti and Zr, while the prediction of Fe and K2O contents was insensitive to the addition of the auxiliary variables. The relative improvement (RI) in the prediction models were greater in predictions of SiO2 (T+SOM: RI=22.29%), V (M+T: RI=18.90%) and Ti (T+SOM: RI=11.18%). This study demonstrates it is possible to correct field pXRF data through linear regression models.

Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a solubilidade dos micronutrientes cobre, níquel e zinco, extraídos quimicamente de agrominerais silicáticos, como fonte alternativa de potássio para as culturas de alface (Lactuca sativa) e arroz (Oryza sativa), bem como sua disponibilidade para as plantas. Avaliaram-se os teores de micronutrientes de cinco agrominerais (ultramáfica alcalina, biotita xisto, brecha vulcânica, flogopita xisto e subproduto de mineração de Chapada), após extração pelos métodos ácido cítrico, ácido clorídrico, ácido dietilenotriamino penta-acético, 3051A, citrato neutro de amônio e Mehlich 3. Os agrominerais, nas doses de 0 (controle), 200, 400 e 600 kg ha-1 de K, foram misturados em solo com cultivo de alface e arroz. Os agrominerais apresentaram baixa solubilidade de Ni, Cu e Zn, com menores teores em folhas de alface e grãos de arroz que o padrão solúvel correspondente na forma de sulfato. A disponibilidade de micronutrientes para as plantas aumentou com uso dos agrominerais, em comparação ao controle. Foram observadas similaridades na solubilidade e na disponibilidade de micronutrientes entre os diferentes grupos de agrominerais. A solubilidade e a disponibilidade de Cu, Ni e Zn dependem da solubilidade dos minerais que compõem os agrominerais.

Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the solubility of the micronutrients copper, nickel, and zinc, chemically extracted from silicate agrominerals, as alternative sources of potassium for lettuce (Lactuca sativa) and rice (Oryza sativa) cultures, as well as their availability to the plants. The micronutrient contents of five agrominerals (alkaline ultramafic, biotite schist, volcanic breccia, phlogopite schist, and mining by-product from Chapada) were evaluated, after being extracted by the citric acid, hydrochloric acid, diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid, 3051A, neutral ammonium citrate, and Mehlich-3 methods. The agrominerals, at the doses of 0 (control), 200, 400, and 600 kg ha-1 K, were mixed to soil where lettuce and rice were cultivated. The agrominerals presented a low solubility of Ni, Cu, and Zn, with lower contents in lettuce shoots and rice grains than the corresponding soluble standards in sulfate form. The availability of micronutrients to the plants increased with the use of agrominerals, in comparison with the control. Similarities were observed in micronutrient solubility and availability between the different groups of agrominerals. The solubility and availability of Cu, Ni, and Zn depend on the solubility of the minerals that compose the agrominerals.

ABSTRACT Sulfuric acid digestion analyses (SAD) provide useful information to environmental studies, in terms of the geochemical balance of nutrients, parent material uniformity, nutrient reserves for perennial crops, and mineralogical composition of the soil clay fraction. Yet, these analyses are costly, time consuming, and generate chemical waste. This work aimed at predicting SAD results from portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometry, which is proposed as a “green chemistry” alternative to the current SAD method. Soil samples developed from different parent materials were analyzed for soil texture and SAD, and scanned with pXRF. The SAD results were predicted from pXRF elemental analyses through simple linear regressions, stepwise multiple linear regressions, and random forest algorithm, with and without incorporation of soil texture data. The modeling was developed with 70 % of the data, while the remaining 30 % was used for validation through calculation of R2, adjusted R2, root mean square error, and mean error. Simple linear regression can accurately predict SAD results of Fe2O3 (R2 0.89), TiO2 (R2 0.96), and P2O5 (R2 0.89). Stepwise regressions provided accurate predictions for Al2O3 (R2 0.87) and Ki - molar weathering index (SiO2/Al2O3) (R2 0.74) by incorporating soil texture data, as well as for SiO2 (R2 0.61). Random forest also provided adequate predictions, especially for Fe2O3 (R2 0.95), and improved results of Kr - molar weathering index (SiO2/(Al2O3 + Fe2O3)) (R2 0.66), by incorporation of soil texture data. Our findings showed that the SAD results could be accurately predicted from pXRF data, decreasing costs, time and the production of laboratory waste.

ABSTRACT Sorption of selenate (SeO 4 2- ) and selenite (SeO 3 2- ) is poorly understood in Brazilian agroecosystems, especially in soils from agricultural areas containing different contents of competing anions, such as sulfate (SO 4 2- ). This study aimed to assess the sorption behavior of selenate and selenite at different soil layers of a tropical soil treated with different rates of agricultural gypsum (thus, containing different contents of sulfate), collected under a coffee plantation. Soil samples from an experimental area where phosphogypsum has been previously applied at different rates (0, 7, 14, and 56 t ha -1 ) were taken at the following soil layers: 0.15-0.25, 0.35-0.45, and 1.25-1.35 m. Adsorption experiments were carried out adding 20 mL of solutions containing 100 and 500 μg L -1 of selenate and 10 and 15 mg L -1 of selenite to 2 grams of soil. Desorption experiments were also performed using a soil:solution ratio of 1:10. Adsorption of selenate increased with soil depth and decreased upon increasing sulfate contents in the soil, by contrast, selenite was consistently adsorbed at higher contents - when compared with selenate - at any soil depth and its sorptive behavior was not affected by the presence of sulfate. Furthermore, selenite was less desorbed than selenate under all conditions. In conclusion, selenite is much more retained in tropical soils and less available to plants than selenate. Also, although sulfate has shown to be able to hinder selenate retention, it has no substantial effect on the sorption behavior of selenite in tropical agroecosystems.

ABSTRACT. Agricultural species are subjected to a variety of biotic and abiotic stresses, which are the main limitations to crop production. In this context, contamination by trace elements is characterized as an abiotic stress that represents an environmental problem. Due to the physical and chemical similarities between cadmium and zinc, these elements may interact in the environment and may cause antagonistic or synergistic effects. In this way, physiological mechanisms to exclude, detoxify or compartmentalize trace elements that are in excess are crucial for plant survival when exposed to high concentrations of these elements. In this way, the aim of this study was to understand the physiological responses of Phaseolus vulgaris plants subjected to increasing doses of Cd and Zn for 21 days in different soil, Cambisol and Latosol. The activity of antioxidant enzymes, such as SOD, CAT, and APX; hydrogen peroxide content; lipid peroxidation; chlorophyll index; photosynthetic rate; stomatal conductance; and transpiration were analysed. The data obtained showed a specific behaviour of Phaseolus vulgaris plants in each soil analysed. Moreover, it was observed that interactions between both elements resulted in a synergistic effect, negatively affecting all of the parameters analysed.

RESUMO A fluorescência de raios-X portátil (pXRF) pode ser considerada como um dos principais avanços para a caracterização química de diferentes materiais. A umidade das amostras pode afetar o desempenho dessa análise. Assim, foi realizado um ensaio para verificar o efeito da umidade na concentração elementar obtida via pXRF. Como inovação, objetivou-se estabelecer relações (regressão) entre o efeito da umidade nos resultados do pXRF e o número atômico (Z) dos elementos. Três amostras de referência certificadas (CRM) foram utilizadas: OREAS 100a, OREAS 101a e OREAS 101b. As amostras foram saturadas com água destilada (0.68 g g-1) e secas à temperatura ambiente. Durante a secagem, as concentrações dos elementos (C) foram determinadas nas amostras com diferentes teores de água usando um pXRF. Para cada teor de água, a relação Cúmido/Cseco foi determinada e plotada em função da umidade, ajustando-se modelos lineares e exponenciais. O coeficiente de atenuação (σ) também foi calculado. Altos valores de σ significam maior influência da umidade. As porcentagens de recuperação obtidas permitiram uma determinação qualitativa, entretanto, a concentração da maioria dos elementos estudados reduziu significativamente com o aumento da umidade. Não foi possível a modelagem do efeito da umidade, avaliada pelo σ, em função do número atômico. Comparativamente, elementos com elevado número atômico e identificados pela linha Lα foram mais impactados que elementos com números atômicos menores identificados pela linha Kα. Ti, Cr e Fe não foram significativamente influenciados pela umidade e o Sr foi o mais impactado. Os resultados encontrados contribuem para a tomada de decisão antes da caracterização utilizando pXRF, obrigando o uso de amostras secas para aqueles elementos impactados ou o uso de fatores de correção.

ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) analysis can be considered one of the main recent advances for chemical characterization of earth materials. The water content of the samples can affect the pXRF performance. As a novelty, we aimed to establish relationships (linear regression) between the effect of water content on pXRF results and atomic number (Z) of the elements. Three certified reference materials (CRM) were investigated: OREAS 100a, OREAS 101a, and OREAS 101b. These materials were saturated (0.68 g g-1) with distilled water and left to air-dry naturally. During the drying, the elemental concentrations (C) were determined at different water contents using a pXRF spectrometer. For each water content, the ratio Cwet/Cdry was determined and plotted against the water content. The attenuation coefficient (σ) was also determined. High σ values mean more influence of water content upon measurement element concentration. The obtained recovery rates allowed a qualitative determination. The concentration for the most elements reduced linearly with increasing water content. A predictable behavior of the water content on pXRF results as function of atomic number was not found. Elements identified by Lα spectral line with highest Z were more impacted by water content than elements identified by Kα line with lowest Z. Ti, Cr and Fe was not significantly influenced by water content, and Sr was the most impacted. Our findings contribute to decision-making before characterization earth materials via pXRF, obliging the use of dry samples for determination of impacted elements or by using moisture-corrected data.

ABSTRACT In the Brazilian Cerrado biome, there are wetlands locally known as “Veredas”, which are swampy plains between hills and rivers. Since the 1970’s, the Cerrado biome has been gradually converted to livestock, crop, or forestry production. Until now, very few studies were conducted to evaluate the baseline contents of trace elements in Cerrado wetland soils. Due to their position in the landscape (bottom lands), the wetlands are potentially susceptible to contamination by runoff and/or leaching from surrounding areas at higher altitudes. This work evaluated the As, Cd, Pb, Ni, Zn, Cu, Mn, and Fe contents in soils from six wetlands (undisturbed and disturbed) in the Minas Gerais Triangle region, Brazil. In each wetland, we collected topsoil samples (0.00-0.20 m layer) and subsurface samples (0.40-0.70 m layer) at different landscape positions in the wetlands (upper, middle, and bottom positions). The soil samples were air-dried, ground, and sieved through 2-mm mesh. Afterwards, the soil digestion was performed according to the USEPA 3051A protocol, and the trace elements were determined by atomic absorption spectrometry (flame or graphite furnace atomization). Water samples were also collected monthly from September 2014 to September 2015 to determine the elemental composition by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry. The contents of all soil trace elements studied were below the threshold values established by Brazilian guidelines. The soil trace element (cations and/or oxyanions) distributions varied according to soil depth and organic matter content. Our findings contribute to the sparse inventory of Brazilian Cerrado wetlands regarding trace-element contents.

RESUMO Espectrômetria portátil de fluorescência de raios-X (pXRF) tem sido crescentemente adotada para estudos sobre solos. Este trabalho objetivou caracterizar efeitos do manejo do solo no teor de elementos químicos detectados pelo pXRF em Cambissolos manejados e não manejados e avaliar o potencial de uso de dados do pXRF para gerar modelos de predição da fertilidade do solo. Amostras foram coletadas em floresta nativa, Cerrado nativo, cafeeiros com 1 e 5 anos de implantação e eucalipto, nos horizontes A, B e C. Atributos de fertilidade do solo foram determinados por análises laboratoriais, enquanto o teor dos elementos foi obtido pelo pXRF. Dados do pXRF foram utilizados para modelagem (regressões) e validação de atributos de fertilidade do solo, além da necessidade de calagem (NL), com ou sem distinção entre áreas manejadas e não manejadas. Práticas de manejo dos cafeeiros aumentaram os teores totais de Sr, CaO, P2O5, Cu e Zn. Os teores de CaO foram eficientes para predição de teores trocáveis de Ca2+ (R2 = 0,91), pH (R2 = 0,88) e saturação por bases (R2 = 0,89) nas áreas manejadas. Modelos gerais foram adequados para predizer teores trocáveis de Ca2+ (R2 = 0,92), pH (R2 = 0,85) e saturação por bases (R2 = 0,90). Modelos para áreas não manejadas foram menos eficazes. O pXRF detectou modificações no teor dos elementos causadas pelas práticas de manejo e possibilitou predições adequadas de atributos relacionados à fertilidade do solo.

ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence (pXRF) spectrometry has been increasingly adopted for varying studies worldwide. This work aimed at characterizing effects of soil management on the content of chemical elements detected by pXRF in managed and unmanaged areas of Inceptisols, and evaluating the potential of using pXRF data to generate prediction models for soil fertility attributes, evaluating the effect of land uses on such models. Samples were collected in A, B, and C horizons of soils under native forest, native Cerrado, coffee crops with 1 and 5 years of implantation and eucalyptus. Soil fertility attributes were determined through laboratory analyses, whereas, elemental contents were obtained through pXRF analysis. PXRF data were used for modeling (regressions) and validation of soil fertility attributes and necessity of lime (NL) application, with or without distinction between managed and unmanaged areas. Management practices on coffee crops increased the levels of Sr, CaO, P2O5, Cu, and Zn. CaO content was efficient for prediction of exchangeable Ca2+ contents (R2 = 0.91), pH (R2 = 0.88), base saturation (R2 = 0.89) in managed areas. General models presented adequate results to predict exchangeable Ca2+ (R2 = 0.92), pH (R2 = 0.85), and base saturation (R2 = 0.90). Models for unmanaged areas were less effective. PXRF detected modifications in elemental contents caused by management practices and provided reliable predictions of soil fertility attributes.

RESUMO A sorção de selênio (Se) em solos pode ser influenciada por fatores que são alterados pelas práticas agrícolas, as quais são geralmente realizadas para a produção agrícola, tais como o pH do solo, anions competitivos e conteúdo de matéria orgânica, entre outros. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a influência do manejo do solo e da força iônica (FI) na retenção de Se em solos brasileiros, o que é importante para prever a disponibilidade de Se em ambos os sistemas, solos nativos e cultivados. Para isso, as reações de adsorção e dessorção de Se foram avaliadas em 16 amostras de solo (oito de solos cultivados e oito de solos nativos), utilizando soluções contendo 100 e 500 μg L-1 sob a forma de selenato de sódio e em duas FI, 15 e 150 mM. A adsorção variou em função da FI para a maioria dos solos, o que pode indicar que o mecanismo de adsorção por complexo de esfera externa é importante para a retenção de selenato nos solos estudados, mas, estudos futuros envolvendo outras técnicas, como técnicas espectroscópicas, são requeridos para confirmar claramente o mecanismo de adsorção. Em geral, a adsorção variou em relação às características do solo, sendo que os solos nativos adsorveram maiores quantidades de Se que os solos cultivados. Em termos de dessorção, os solos que apresentaram as maiores quantidades adsorvidas de Se também apresentaram as maiores quantidades dessorvidas. Finalmente, a FI e o manejo do solo influenciaram a disponibilidade de selenato nos solos estudados.

ABSTRACT Sorption of selenium (Se) on soils may be influenced by factors that are changed though agricultural practices usually performed for crop production, such as soil pH, competing anion and organic matter contents, among others. This study aimed to evaluate the influence of soil management and ionic strength (IS) on Se retention in Brazilian soils, which is important to predict Se availability in both systems, native and cultivated soils. For that, adsorption and desorption reactions of Se were evaluated in 16 soil samples (eight from cultivated soils and eight from native soils), using solutions containing 100 and 500 µg L-1 Se in the form of sodium selenate and in two IS, 15 and 150 mM. Se adsorption varied as a function of IS for most soils, which may indicate that the adsorption mechanism by outer-sphere complex is important for selenate retention in the studied soils, but future studies involving other techniques, such as spectroscopic studies, are needed to more clearly confirm the adsorption mechanism. In general, adsorption varied in relation to soil characteristics, and native soils adsorbed larger Se amounts than the cultivated soils. In terms of desorption, soils which had larger Se adsorbed amounts also presented larger desorbed amounts. Finally, IS and soil management influenced the availability of selenate in the studied soils.

RESUMO O selênio (Se) é essencial para o metabolismo humano, porém, grande parte da população mundial apresenta deficiência nesse elemento. Isto pode ser revertido pelo consumo de alimentos biofortificados, uma vez que as plantas podem atuar de forma eficiente no controle do consumo excessivo e / ou acidental de um elemento que pode ocorrer nos seres humanos através do uso de suplementos dietéticos. Objetivou-se com o presente estudo avaliar o efeito de formas de aplicação e fontes de Se no crescimento, produção, nutrição, características físico-químicas, teor e acúmulo de Se na cenoura. O experimento foi desenvolvido em casa de vegetação, utilizando vasos com quatro dm3 contendo Latossolo Vermelho Amarelo. Adotou-se o delineamento inteiramente casualizado, em fatorial 2 x 2 x 2 (com e sem aplicação do Se; duas fontes do Se: selenato e selenito; duas formas de aplicação do Se: via solo e foliar), com cinco repetições. O selenato aplicado via foliar aumenta a produção e a acidez titulável e reduz o índice de maturação das raízes. O selenito via foliar aumenta o teor de Se na parte aérea e o teor de carotenoides nas raízes de cenoura. As duas fontes de Se (selenato e selenito) e formas de aplicação (via solo ou foliar) promovem aumento do seu teor nas raízes de cenoura, porém o selenato via foliar é a fonte e forma mais efetiva. Dessa forma, é possível aumentar os teores de Se na parte comestível da cenoura e, assim, favorecer a ingestão desse elemento pela população.

ABSTRACT The selenium (Se) is essential for human metabolism, but a large part of the world’s population has deficiency in this element. This can be reversed by the consumption of biofortified foods, given that plants can efficiently act in controlling excessive and/or accidental consumption of an element that can occur in humans through the use of dietary supplements. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of different application forms and sources of Se in the growth, production, nutrition, physical-chemical characteristics, content and accumulation of Se in carrots. The experiment was conducted under greenhouse conditions, using pots containing 4 dm3 of Red-yellow Latosol. A completely randomized design was used in a 2x2x2 factorial scheme (with and without Se application, two sources of Se: selenate and selenite, two forms of application of Se: soil and foliar applications), with five replicates. Foliar application of selenate increased the yield and titratable acidity, reducing root ripening index. Foliar application of selenite increased the content of Se in the shoots and the content of carotenoids in the roots. Both sources of Se (selenate and selenite) and application forms (soil or foliar application) increased their content in the roots. However, the foliar application of selenate was the most effective source and form of application. Therefore, it is possible to increase the contents of Se in the edible part of carrots, favoring the consumption of this element by the population.

RESUMO O espectrômetro portátil de fluorescência de raios-X (pXRF) foi recentemente adotado pela Ciência do Solo, para uso em campo e laboratório, para obtenção do conteúdo total de vários elementos químicos em poucos segundos. A digestão com ácido sulfúrico é uma análise laboratorial cara e demorada que fornece teores de Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 e P2O5, importantes para estudos sobre solos. Devido aos poucos estudos sobre o pXRF em solos tropicais, este trabalho objetivou comparar os teores de Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 e P2O5 obtidos pelo pXRF com os resultados de digestão com ácido sulfúrico e avaliar os efeitos de diferentes formas de preparo de amostras de solo e leitura com o pXRF sobre seus resultados para solos brasileiros. Os solos foram submetidos a leituras com o pXRF em cinco condições, em campo (in situ) e em laboratório, avaliando variados métodos de preparo de amostras, tamanhos de partículas e umidade do solo. Quatro modos de operação do pXRF foram testados. Regressões lineares foram ajustadas entre os resultados do pXRF e digestão com ácido sulfúrico. As equações foram validadas com um conjunto independente de amostras. Análises estatísticas compararam os métodos de leitura de amostras. Modelos lineares adequados atingiram R2 de 0,99 e 0,89 para Fe2O3 e TiO2, respectivamente. A validação promoveu R2 maior que 0.97 e RMSE e ME próximos a zero para ambos os óxidos. Foram encontradas diferenças estatísticas dos resultados do pXRF entre os métodos de preparo de amostras. O pXRF possui um grande potencial para obter rápida e economicamente os teores de Fe2O3 e TiO2 com elevada correspondência com os resultados laboratoriais da análise da digestão com ácido sulfúrico. Métodos variáveis de preparo das amostras promovem diferenças nos resultados de pXRF.

ABSTRACT Portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (pXRF) has been recently adopted by the Soil Science community for uses in both field and laboratory, obtaining the total content of several chemical elements in a few seconds. Sulfuric acid digestion is an expensive and time-consuming laboratory analysis that provides contents of Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and P2O5, important for soil studies. Due to few pXRF studies in tropical soils, this work aimed to compare contents of Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, TiO2 and P2O5 obtained by pXRF with sulfuric acid digestion results, and to evaluate the effects of varying forms of preparing soil samples and scanning with pXRF on the resulting values in Brazilian soils. Soils were scanned in five conditions in-field (in situ) and in laboratory, evaluating varying sample preparation methods, particle sizes and soil moisture. Four pXRF scanning operational modes were tested. Linear regressions were adjusted between results of pXRF and sulfuric acid digestion. Equations were validated with an independent set of samples. Statistical analyses compared the methods of preparing the samples. Adequate linear models reached R2 of 0.99 and 0.89 for Fe2O3 and TiO2, respectively. Validation promoted R2 greater than 0.97 and RMSE and ME close to zero for both oxides. Statistical differences of pXRF results were found among the methods of preparing samples. pXRF spectrometer has great potential to obtain Fe2O3 and TiO2 content rapidly and economically with high correspondence with laboratory results of sulfuric acid digestion analysis. Varying methods of preparing the samples promote differences in the results of pXRF.

RESUMO. O selênio (Se) é essencial à nutrição de animais e seres humanos, e atenção recente vem sendo dada à biofortificação com Se em cultivos agrícolas. Devido à escassez de estudos que norteiem o enriquecimento nutricional do morangueiro com Se e da necessidade de ampliar a compressão da interação entre o Se e S nesta cultura, o objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar o efeito da aplicação de doses de Se e S na nutrição e produção do morangueiro. Os tratamentos foram constituídos de cinco doses de Se (0, 0.3, 0.6, 1.2 e 2.4 mg dm-3 como selenato do sódio) e duas doses de S (0 e 60 mg dm-3 como gesso agrícola) aplicados em um Latossolo Vermelho distroférrico em condições de casa de vegetação. O teor e acúmulo de Se são reduzidos drasticamente na parte aérea e nos frutos do morangueiro com a aplicação da adubação sulfatada, ao tempo que a absorção de S é maximizada com o aumento das doses de Se. O morangueiro apresenta boa capacidade para o enriquecimento nutricional com Se, demonstrado pelo acúmulo de Se nos frutos e aumento da produção.

ABSTRACT. Selenium (Se) is an essential mineral element for animals and humans, and attention has been devoted to Se biofortification of agricultural crops. Due to the scarcity of studies aimed at guiding the nutritional Se-enrichment on strawberry and the need to understand the interaction between Se and sulfur (S) in this cultivation, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of the application of Se and S levels on the nutrition and production of strawberry. Treatments consisted of five levels of Se (0, 0.3, 0.6, 1.2, and 2.4 mg dm-3 as sodium selenate) and two levels of S (0 and 60 mg dm-3 as gypsum), which were applied in dystroferric Red Latosol soils under greenhouse conditions. The concentration and accumulation of Se are drastically reduced in the shoots and fruits of strawberry with the application of the sulfated fertilization, while absorption of S is maximized with increased levels of Se. Strawberry presents good capacity for nutritional enrichment with Se, which was demonstrated by the accumulation of Se in the fruits, as well as by enhanced fruit yield.

RESUMO A determinação de atributos do solo auxilia no correto manejo da sua fertilidade. O equipamento portátil de fluorescência de raios-X (pXRF) foi recentemente adotado para determinar o teor total de elementos químicos em solos, permitindo inferências sobre atributos do solo. No entanto, esses estudos ainda são escassos no Brasil e em outros países. Os objetivos deste trabalho foram prever atributos do solo a partir de dados do pXRF, comparando-se os métodos de regressão linear múltipla stepwise (SMLR) e de random forest (RF), além de mapear e validar atributos do solo. 120 amostras de solo foram coletadas em três profundidades e submetidas a análises laboratoriais. Utilizou-se o pXRF para leitura das amostras e determinou-se o teor total de elementos. A partir dos dados do pXRF, foram utilizadas SMLR e RF para predizer resultados laboratoriais, que refletem atributos do solo, e os modelos foram validados. O melhor método foi utilizado para espacializar os atributos do solo. Utilizando SMLR, os modelos apresentaram valores elevados de R² (≥0,8), porém maior acurácia foi obtida na modelagem com RF. A capacidade de troca de cátions potencial e efetiva, matéria orgânica do solo, pH, saturação por bases e teores trocáveis de Ca, Al e Mg apresentaram ajustes adequados e predições acuradas com RF. Dos dez atributos do solo preditos por RF a partir de dados do pXRF, sete apresentavam CaO como a variável mais importante para auxiliar as predições, seguido por P2O5, Zn e Cr. Os mapas gerados a partir de dados do pXRF usando RF apresentaram adequados valores de R² para seis atributos do solo, atingindo R2 de até 0,83. O pXRF em associação com RF pode ser usado para prever atributos do solo com elevada acurácia, com rapidez e a baixo custo, além de proporcionar variáveis que auxiliam o mapeamento digital de solos.

ABSTRACT Determination of soil properties helps in the correct management of soil fertility. The portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer (pXRF) has been recently adopted to determine total chemical element contents in soils, allowing soil property inferences. However, these studies are still scarce in Brazil and other countries. The objectives of this work were to predict soil properties using pXRF data, comparing stepwise multiple linear regression (SMLR) and random forest (RF) methods, as well as mapping and validating soil properties. 120 soil samples were collected at three depths and submitted to laboratory analyses. pXRF was used in the samples and total element contents were determined. From pXRF data, SMLR and RF were used to predict soil laboratory results, reflecting soil properties, and the models were validated. The best method was used to spatialize soil properties. Using SMLR, models had high values of R² (≥0.8), however the highest accuracy was obtained in RF modeling. Exchangeable Ca, Al, Mg, potential and effective cation exchange capacity, soil organic matter, pH, and base saturation had adequate adjustment and accurate predictions with RF. Eight out of the 10 soil properties predicted by RF using pXRF data had CaO as the most important variable helping predictions, followed by P2O5, Zn and Cr. Maps generated using RF from pXRF data had high accuracy for six soil properties, reaching R2 up to 0.83. pXRF in association with RF can be used to predict soil properties with high accuracy at low cost and time, besides providing variables aiding digital soil mapping.
