Resumo A produção de tintas utilizando resíduos de beneficiamento de granito e mármore é uma nova alternativa para contribuir com o desenvolvimento sustentável na construção civil. Entretanto, a carência de estudos sobre a composição e o desempenho dessas tintas inviabiliza a disseminação desse novo material de construção. Logo, este estudo tem como objetivo investigar a composição dessas tintas utilizando ferramentas estatísticas para obter produtos com desempenho compatível com regulamentações técnicas e tintas comerciais. As formulações de tintas foram definidas através de um planejamento de misturas quaternárias. O teor de sólidos, pH, viscosidade, poder de cobertura e resistência à abrasão foram determinados para todas as amostras. As tintas produzidas com resíduos de granito apresentaram melhor poder de cobertura e resistência à abrasão, pois o resíduo de granito apresenta granulometria mais fina, além de ser predominantemente composto por sílica. Abstract The production of paints using waste from granite and marble processing is a new alternative to contribute to sustainable development in civil construction. However, the lack of studies on the composition and performance of these paints makes the dissemination of this new construction material unfeasible. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the composition of these paints using statistical tools to obtain products with performance compatible with technical regulations and commercial paints. The paint formulations were defined through a quaternary mixture planning. The solids content, pH, viscosity, hiding power, and abrasion resistance were determined for all samples. The paints produced with granite waste showed better hiding power and abrasion resistance, as granite waste has a finer granulometry, in addition to being predominantly composed of silica. ABSTRACT: In order to ensure reliable inferences in scientific experiments, sampling criteria should be determined and defined during the experimental design phase. Determining plot and sample sizes without scientific criteria could result in resource and labor inefficiencies with no gain in experimental precision. In this work we estimate plot and sample sizes for biometric variable analyses in lettuce seedlings. The seedlings were sown in four expanded polystyrene foam transplant trays with 128 and 200 cells. Foliar area, stem diameter, shoot height, root length, root volume, root area, fresh and dry shoot and root masses. The methods described by Paranaiba (PARANAIBA et al., 2009) and Cochran (COCHRAN, 1977) were used for plot size and sample size estimations, respectively. Sample size varied according to the variables analysed and transplant tray cell number. Root variables required the highest number of samples. For a 10% margin of error, 12 seedlings were necessary for evaluations in a 128 cell tray, while 11 seedlings were required for analysis in 200 cell trays. RESUMO: A fim de garantir inferências confiáveis em experimentos científicos, os critérios de amostragem devem ser determinados e definidos durante a fase de planejamento experimental. Determinar tamanhos de parcelas e amostras sem critérios científicos pode resultar em ineficiências de recursos e mão de obra sem ganho de precisão experimental. Neste trabalho estimamos tamanhos de parcelas e amostras para análises de variáveis biométricas em mudas de alface. As mudas foram semeadas em quatro bandejas de transplante de espuma de poliestireno expandido com 128 e 200 células. Área foliar, diâmetro do caule, altura da parte aérea, comprimento da raiz, volume da raiz, área da raiz, parte aérea fresca e seca e massas radiculares. Os métodos descritos por Paranaíba (PARANAÍBA et al., 2009) e Cochran (COCHRAN, 1977) foram utilizados para estimativas de tamanho de parcela e tamanho de amostra, respectivamente. Abstract Objective To verify the prevalence of musculoskeletal pain in amateur golfers in the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Methods The present is a cross-sectional study performed from September 2019 to March 2020 in golf clubs affiliated to Federação Paulista de Golfe (São Paulo Golf Federation). Federation players were evaluated regarding data on golf practice and sport routine by a main investigator, though an assessment form with multiple-choice questions, to determine sample characteristics and recent pain intensity by the Visual Analogue Scale. Results Approximately 359 amateur golfers were analyzed. The prevalence of pain was of 55.15% (95% confidence interval [95%CI]: 50.0% to 60.3%); the average pain intensity according to the VAS was moderate (mean ± standard deviation: 5.21 ± 2.04; odds ration [OR]: 47,98%). The golfer's age range was significantly associated with the presence of pain (p < 0.05). The highest prevalence estimate of pain was of 68.80% in the age group between 30 and 39 years (OR: 7,33; 95%CI: 2,26 to 23,85; p = 0,0009). The segments most affected by pain were the upper limbs (65.66%), followed by the spine (59.09%) and the lower limbs (32.83%). Conclusion There is a high prevalence rate of pain in Brazilian amateur golfers, especially in younger players in the age group between 30 and 39 years. Resumo Objetivo Verificar a prevalência de dores musculoesqueléticas em golfistas amadores do estado de São Paulo. Métodos Este é um estudo transversal realizado de setembro de 2019 a março de 2020 em clubes de golfe afiliados à Federação Paulista de Golfe. Jogadores federados foram avaliados quanto a dados da prática de golfe e da rotina esportiva por um investigador principal, por meio de um formulário de avaliação com questões de múltipla escolha, para a determinação das características da amostra e da intensidade da dor recente pela Escala Visual Analógica (EVA). Resultados Cerca de 359 golfistas amadores foram analisados. A prevalência de dor foi de 55,15% (intervalo de confiança de 95% [IC95%]: 50,0% a 60,3%); a intensidade média da dor segundo a EVA foi moderada (média ± desvio padrão: 5,21 ± 2,04; razão de probabilidades [odds ratio, OR, em inglês]: 47,98%). A faixa etária dos golfistas esteve significativamente associada à presença de dor (p < 0,05). A maior estimativa de prevalência de dor foi de 68,80% na faixa etária de 30 a 39 anos (OR: 7,33; IC95%: 2,26 a 23,85; p = 0,0009). Os segmentos mais acometidos por dor foram os membros superiores (65,66%), seguidos da coluna (59,09%) e dos membros inferiores (32,83%). Resumen Objetivo: comprobar si el seguimiento telefónico agrega efecto a la aplicación de Intervenciones Breves para el uso de alcohol entre las mujeres embarazadas. Metodología: se trata de un ensayo clínico controlado y aleatorizado, abierto, paralelo, de dos brazos. Los datos fueron recolectados en la atención primaria de salud en São Carlos y el Centro de Referencia para la Salud de la Mujer en Ibaté (São Paulo, Brasil). Se realizó un seguimiento de las mujeres embarazadas que consumieron cualquier cantidad de alcohol durante el embarazo. Posteriormente, fueron distribuidos aleatoriamente en dos grupos. El grupo de control recibió solo una breve intervención; el grupo experimental recibió una intervención breve y fue monitoreado semanalmente por teléfono durante dos semanas después de la intervención. Se utilizó un programa estadístico para realizar estadísticas descriptivas e inferenciales (Test de Wilcoxon). Resultados: Hubo una reducción en el consumo en ambos grupos. Sin embargo, solo en el grupo experimental en el que se implementó la intervención con seguimiento, hubo abstinencia en todo el grupo (AUDIT-C: p-valor=0,011; T-ACE: p-valor=0,010). Conclusiones: Las intervenciones breves asociadas al seguimiento telefónico durante el embarazo demostraron ser efectivas para detener el consumo de alcohol. Abstract Objective: to test whether telephone monitoring adds effect to the application of Brief Interventions for alcohol use among pregnant women. Methodology: this is a controlled and randomized clinical trial, open, parallel, with two arms. Data were collected in primary health care in São Carlos and Reference Center for Women's Health in Ibaté (São Paulo, Brazil). Pregnant women who consumed any amount of alcohol during pregnancy were tracked. Afterwards, they were randomly allocated into two groups. The control group received only a brief intervention; the experimental group received a brief intervention and were monitored weekly by telephone for two weeks after the intervention. A statistical program was used to perform descriptive and inferential statistics (Wilcoxon Test). Results: There was a reduction in consumption in both groups. However, only in the experimental group in which the intervention with monitoring was implemented, there was abstinence in the entire group (AUDIT-C: p-value=0.011; T-ACE: p-value=0.010). Conclusions: Brief interventions associated with telephone monitoring during pregnancy proved to be effective in stopping alcohol consumption. Resumo Objetivo: testar se o monitoramento por telefone acrescenta efeito à aplicação de Intervenções Breves para o uso de álcool entre gestantes. Metodologia: trata-se de ensaio clínico controlado e randomizado, aberto, paralelo, com dois braços. Os dados foram coletados na atenção primária à saúde de São Carlos e Centro de Referência de Saúde da Mulher em Ibaté (São Paulo, Brasil). Foram rastreadas gestantes que consumiram qualquer quantidade de álcool na gestação. Após, foram alocadas aleatoriamente em dois grupos. O grupo controle recebeu apenas uma intervenção breve; o grupo experimental recebeu uma intervenção breve e foi monitorado semanalmente por telefone nas duas semanas posteriores à intervenção. Utilizou-se programa estatístico para realização de estatísticas descritivas e inferencial (Teste de Wilcoxon). Resultados: Houve redução do consumo nos dois grupos. Porém, apenas no grupo experimental em que foi implementado intervenção com monitoramento, houve abstinência de todo o grupo (AUDIT-C: p-valor=0,011; T-ACE: p-valor=0,010). Conclusões: Intervenções breves associadas a monitoramento telefônico durante a gestação se mostraram efetivas para a cessação do consumo de álcool. ABSTRACT: The cheese after processing, generates whey, which is a residue that has potential benefit to human health. However, there are still few studies that seek to evaluate the composition and potential benefits of goat milk whey, even though it is a promising dairy source. Despite this, the large-scale generation of this waste can favor the environmental impact when improperly disposed of. Given this, the use of all content of dairy production can reverse this impact and increase the income of the dairy industry. Thus, this research prepared a powdered product based on goat’s milk whey from the spray drying technique and evaluate its physicochemical composition by chemical analytical methods and protein profile through polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The elaborated product had a higher carbohydrate content than protein, and the identification of protein fractions showed that the most expressive bands represented beta-lactoglobulin and alpha-lactoalbumin. Therefore, the elaborated product has the potential to generate novel products for human consumption and with potential health benefits. RESUMO: O queijo após processado gera o soro de leite, sendo este um resíduo que possui potencial benefício à saúde humana. No entanto, ainda são poucos os estudos que buscam avaliar a composição e os potenciais benefícios do soro de leite de cabra, mesmo esta sendo uma fonte láctea promissora. Apesar disso, a geração em larga escala deste resíduo pode favorecer o impacto ambiental quando descartado inadequadamente. Em vista disso, a utilização de todo conteúdo gerado na produção de lácteos pode reverter este impacto e aumentar o rendimento da indústria de laticínios. Diante disso, é importante buscar o desenvolvimento de novos produtos para favorecer a redução do impacto gerado. Assim, este trabalho teve como objetivo elaborar um produto em pó, à base de soro de leite de cabra a partir da secagem pela técnica de spray drying e avaliar sua composição físico-química por métodos químicos analíticos e perfil proteico através da eletroforese em gel de poliacrilamida. O produto elaborado apresentou maior teor de carboidratos do que proteína, e a identificação das frações proteicas mostrou que as bandas mais expressivas representavam beta-lactoglobulina e alfa-lactoalbumina. Portanto, o produto elaborado apresenta potencial para geração de novos produtos para consumo humano e com prováveis benefícios à saúde. ABSTRACT present study aimed to determine the effects of different light restriction levels (shading levels) on soybean genetic parameters using a Bayesian multi-trait model (MTM) and select high-yielding soybean cultivars. Eighteen commercial soybean cultivars bred in a soybean breeding program were evaluated over two agricultural seasons. Three shading levels were used over two agricultural crop seasons, giving six treatments (light restriction × crop season). The experiments were arranged in a randomized complete block design with six treatments replicated thrice. The genetic values and parameters were estimated using a Monte Carlo Markov Chain algorithm. Broad-sense heritability range from 0.2093 to 0.7153. The lowest genotypic variance estimate was observed at the 45 % photosynthetically active radiation level in the 2019/2020 crop season year compared with that of other shading levels. Furthermore, a 40 % selection intensity had the highest soybean yield under different shading levels. The Bayesian MTM combined with the factor analysis and genotype-ideotype distance method can be used to evaluate and select soybean genotypes considering different shading levels. Research on eco-friendly methods led to the investigation of natural inhibitors and silane films modified with nanostructured mesoporous silica (SBA-15), a molecular sieve that can carry molecules with inhibitory properties. Combining natural extracts such as cocoa husk with SBA-15 aims to develop an enhanced silane-based pretreatment. This involves obtaining an alcoholic extract, and then mixing it with SBA-15 to modify the silane film. Different concentrations (1%, 2%, and 3%) of SBA-15 loaded with extract were prepared. Electrochemical tests, especially electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS), in a 0.1 mol/L NaCl solution, revealed improved corrosion resistance with the tetraethylorthosilane (TEOS) film modified using 3% SBA-15 loaded with extract. Scanning electron microscopy showed the film and SBA-15 on the steel surface, while Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy identified functional groups characteristic of SBA-15, pure or loaded, and silane film. Abstract The description of secretory structures in Malvaceae is controversial, and results in conflicting interpretations. Amid conflicting interpretations, therefore, the present study aims to describe the ontogeny diversity and histochemistry in Ceiba, emphasizing the secretory structures in leaves of C. erianthos, C. jasminodora, C. pentandra, and C. speciosa. All analyzed species present mucilaginous, crystalliferous, and phenolic idioblasts. These structures are randomly arranged in the mesophyll, epidermis, petiole cortex, and parenchymatic tissue of the midrib. However, in C. jasminodora and C. pentandra, secretory structures are only found in the midrib area. The development of mucilaginous idioblasts is asynchronous and, when mature, they coalesce forming large structures full of mucilage. Clavate-type pluricellular glandular trichomes were also detected scattered randomly on both leaf surfaces. Their ontogeny is described, and histochemical tests showed the presence of lipophilic substances. Extrafloral nectaries were observed in the middle third of the midrib, on the abaxial side of the leaflets. They originate from the protoderm and ground meristem of the midrib cortex. Resumo A descrição das estruturas secretoras em Malvaceae não é consenso e resulta em interpretações conflitantes. Em meio a interpretações conflitantes, o presente estudo tem como objetivo descrever a diversidade ontogenética e histoquímica em Ceiba, enfatizando as estruturas secretoras em folhas de C. erianthos, C. jasminodora, C. pentandra e C. speciosa. Todas as espécies analisadas apresentam idioblastos mucilaginosos, cristalíferos e fenólicos. Tais estruturas estão dispostas aleatoriamente no mesofilo, epiderme, córtex do pecíolo e no tecido parenquimático da nervura central. Porém, em C. jasminodora e C. pentandra, encontram-se apenas na região da nervura central. O desenvolvimento de idioblastos mucilaginosos é assíncrono e quando maduros, coalescem formando grandes estruturas repletas de mucilagem. Tricomas glandulares pluricelulares do tipo clavado também foram detectados distribuídos aleatoriamente em ambas as superfícies foliares. Sua ontogenia é descrita e testes histoquímicos evidenciaram a presença de substâncias lipofílicas. Nectários extraflorais foram observados no terço médio da nervura central, na face abaxial dos folíolos. Estes se originam da protoderme e do meristema fundamental do córtex da nervura central. Abstract This study presents findings from research conducted with indigenous and peasant students (n = 53) in their first year of the Rural Education Degree (Countryside Education) program at a public university in the Brazilian Midwest. We investigated previous knowledge and methods for developing entomological knowledge using structured questionnaires with open, closed, and multiple-choice questions. As a result, we discovered 24 distinct types of animals known as insects. Indigenous peoples conceptualized insects using ecological principles, whereas peasants approached the subject from health and emotional perspectives. Our findings revealed that indigenous students’ prior entomological knowledge was primarily developed within their families, while peasant students developed it at school. This study provides important insights into pre-existing knowledge and the development of entomological understanding in an intercultural setting. Resumo: Este estudo apresenta os resultados de uma pesquisa realizada com estudantes indígenas e camponeses (n = 53) do primeiro ano do curso de Licenciatura em Educação do Campo em uma universidade pública do Centro-Oeste brasileiro. Examinamos, por meio de questionários estruturados com perguntas abertas, fechadas e de múltipla escolha, o conhecimento prévio e as formas de construção do conhecimento entomológico. Como resultado, encontramos 24 tipos de animais citados como insetos. Os indígenas conceituam insetos com base em conceitos ecológicos e os camponeses com base em aspectos de saúde e emocionais. Descobrimos que o conhecimento entomológico prévio desses estudantes foi criado dentro do núcleo familiar, no caso dos indígenas, e na escola, no caso dos camponeses. Esta pesquisa traz informações legítimas sobre o conhecimento prévio e a construção do conhecimento entomológico, numa perspectiva intercultural, a fim de promover uma reflexão sobre o diálogo entre tradições, conhecimento popular e científico. ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the correlation between blood alcohol levels and the severity of injuries assessed by the Injury Severity Score (ISS) in patients who were victims of traffic accidents admitted to the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (HCFMUSP). Methods: Cross-sectional study carried out between July 2018 and June 2019, at the Central Emergency Room of the Hospital das Clínicas of the Faculty of Medicine of the University of São Paulo (PSC-HCFMUSP). A total of 172 hospitalized patients victims of traffic accidents were included in this study. Blood samples were analyzed by the FMUSP Toxicology Laboratory. Results: 36 patients (20.9%) had positive BAC (≥ 0.2 g/L) with a mean of 1.21 g/L. Overall, patients had a mean age of 37.2 years old, and 136 (79.1%) were men. The ISS of the total casuistry was 15.6; regarding the external cause, the motorcycle was ranked first with 100 cases (58.1%), and drivers were the majority with 57.4% of the sample. Conclusion: There was no correlation between the severity of the injuries and the blood alcohol levels of traffic accident victims admitted to a reference hospital. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar a correlação entre a alcoolemia e a gravidade das lesões avaliadas pelo Índice de Gravidade da Lesão ( Injury Severity Score* – ISS) em vítimas de acidentes de trânsito internadas no Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (HC-FMUSP).* Método: Estudo transversal realizado entre julho de 2018 e junho de 2019, no Pronto Socorro Central do HC-FMUSP. Photochemical damage precedes visual decline, and in mild cases, vision usually returns fully or partially. Abstract Mucopolysaccharidosis type IIIB (MPS IIIB) is caused by deficiency of alpha-N-acetylglucosaminidase, leading to storage of heparan sulphate. The disease is characterized by intellectual disability and hyperactivity, among other neurological and somatic features. Here we studied retrospective data from a total of 19 MPS IIIB patients from Brazil, aiming to evaluate disease progression. Mean age at diagnosis was 7.2 years. Speech delay was one of the first symptoms to be identified, around 2-3 years of age. Behavioral alterations include hyperactivity and aggressiveness, starting around age four. By the end of the first decade, patients lost acquired abilities such as speech and ability to walk. Furthermore, as disease progresses, respiratory, cardiovascular and joint abnormalities were found in more than 50% of the patients, along with organomegaly. Most common cause of death was respiratory problems.
