ABSTRACT: The National School Feeding Program (PNAE) is the oldest and most extensive food and nutrition program in Brazil. Art. 14 of Law 11.947 stipulate that at least 30% of its operational resources need be used to purchase family farming products. However, there are important barriers that hinder the application of this law. The present article developed a conceptual model that described and analyzed the barriers to this requirement. A systematic literature review identified twelve barriers, divided into three constructs political administrative infrastructure and human capital, which enables PNAE management to develop mitigation strategies, including a larger number of farmers in the program, thereby increasing its efficiency.
Abstract This study aimed to evaluate whether skeletal development of the Pantanal Caiman (Caiman yacare) is similarly influenced by temperature variation and controlled increases in embryo motility. All eggs were incubated at 90% humidity and 29 °C for the first 45 days. Thereafter, the incubation temperature was either maintained at 29 °C and embryos were treated with 4-aminopyridine (4-AP) on days 46, 47, 48, and 49 (Group I, 29 °C 4-AP, n = 15); maintained at 29 °C (n = 14; Group II); or at 33 °C (n = 14, Group III). Embryonic movement was measured using an Egg Buddy® digital monitor on days 30, 35, 42, 49, 56, and 60, at which point embryos were euthanized and samples were collected for analysis. No differences were observed between groups with varying incubation temperatures. In contrast, embryonic motility was greater in embryos treated with 4-AP (P < 0.001) on day 49, and this was associated with higher proportions of snout-vent and hand lengths. This study demonstrates for the first time that pharmacologically induced increases in embryo motility result in phenotypic changes to the proportion of elements during prenatal ontogeny, thereby effectively altering the adaptation of the species to specific environments.

This work describes the multigram-scale synthesis of the building-block N1 (7 chloroquinolin-4-yl)ethane-1,2-diamine via sonochemistry and its use in the synthesis of seven new quinoline-thiazole hybrids endowed with interesting anticancer activity. Target compounds were planned based on the drugs chloroquine and primaquine and the desired thiazoles were obtained through the Hantzsch thiazole synthesis, without the use of catalysts, by reacting key intermediate 1-(2-((7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)amino)ethyl)thiourea, obtained in two-steps from N1 (7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)ethane-1,2-diamine, with different 2-bromoacetophenones. The novel molecules were assessed against four different leukemia cell lines (HL60, K562, KASUMI-1, and KG-1) plus normal fibroblasts (L929), using the 3-(4,5-dimethyl-2-thiazol)-2,5-diphenyl-2H-tetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay, and showed, overall, a high cytotoxic profile, but with interesting selectivity index, especially against K562 cells (1.89 to 5.50), when compared to standard doxorubicin (3.51). Docking studies suggest that all tested derivatives are able to interact with BCR-ABL1 tyrosine kinase enzyme, and, therefore, these molecules may be promising leads against chronic myeloid leukemia. multigramscale multigram scale buildingblock building block N 7 ( chloroquinolin4ylethane1,2diamine chloroquinolin4ylethane12diamine chloroquinolinylethanediamine chloroquinolin 4 yl ethane 1,2 diamine 1 2 quinolinethiazole quinoline activity catalysts 127chloroquinolin4ylaminoethylthiourea, 127chloroquinolin4ylaminoethylthiourea chloroquinolinylaminoethylthiourea amino ethyl thiourea, thiourea 1-(2-((7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)amino)ethyl)thiourea twosteps two steps 7chloroquinolin4ylethane1,2diamine, 7chloroquinolin4ylethane12diamine diamine, (7-chloroquinolin-4-yl)ethane-1,2-diamine 2bromoacetophenones. 2bromoacetophenones bromoacetophenones bromoacetophenones. 2-bromoacetophenones HL60, HL60 HL (HL60 K KASUMI1, KASUMI1 KASUMI 1, KASUMI-1 KG1 KG KG-1 L929, L929 L , (L929) 34,5dimethyl2thiazol2,5diphenyl2Htetrazolium 345dimethyl2thiazol25diphenyl2Htetrazolium dimethylthiazoldiphenylHtetrazolium 3 4,5 dimethyl thiazol 2,5 diphenyl 2H tetrazolium 5 H MTT (MTT assay showed overall profile index K56 1.89 189 89 (1.8 5.50, 550 5.50 50 5.50) 3.51. 351 3.51 . 51 (3.51) BCRABL1 BCRABL BCR ABL1 ABL BCR-ABL enzyme therefore chloroquinolin4ylethane1 2diamine ylethane 12 ylaminoethylthiourea 7chloroquinolin4ylethane1 7chloroquinolin4ylethane1,2diamine HL6 (HL6 KASUMI- KG- L92 (L929 34 5dimethyl2thiazol2 5diphenyl2Htetrazolium Htetrazolium 45 4, 25 2, K5 1.8 18 8 (1. 55 5.5 35 3.5 (3.51 chloroquinolinylethane chloroquinolin4ylethane 7chloroquinolin4ylethane (HL L9 (L92 dimethylthiazol 5dimethyl2thiazol diphenylHtetrazolium 1. Abstract This study evaluated the anesthetic activity of essential oil from Lippia alba (EOLA), linalool chemotype in a euryhaline fish (fat snook Centropomus parallelus). In the first experiment, fish were exposed to 30, 80, 130, 180, 200, and 230 µL EOLA L−1. The second experiment evaluated smaller and larger fish with 180 µL EOLA L-1. In the third experiment, ventilatory rates (VR) for up to 120 min in animals during exposure to 5 and 10 µL EOLA L−1 were evaluated. In the fourth experiment, fish anesthetized with 30 and 180 µL EOLA L-1 were assessed at 0, 30, and 60 min after anesthesia recovery to evaluate biochemical and antioxidant parameters. The best mild and deep anesthesia times were obtained with 30 and 180 µL EOLA L-1, and larger fish had the highest times. The VR increased in fish exposed to EOLA. Blood glucose and whole-body cortisol levels were higher in fish anesthetized with 180 µL EOLA L-1. Fish exposed to EOLA had higher liver glutathione S-transferase and superoxide dismutase activities without affecting catalase and lipid peroxidation levels. The 180 µL EOLA L-1 is recommended for fat snook anesthesia because it increases VR, blood glucose, and whole-body cortisol levels and prevents oxidative stress. Abstract Oxidative stress is involved in the pathogenesis of malaria, causing anemia, respiratory complications, and cerebral malaria. To mitigate oxidative stress, we investigated the effect of nutritional supplementation whit lycopene (LYC) on the evolution of parasitemia and survival rate in mice infected with Plasmodium berghei ANKA (Pb), comparing to the effects promoted by N-acetylcysteine (NAC). Therefore, 175 mice were randomly distributed into 4 groups; Sham: untreated and uninfected animals; Pb: animals infected with Pb; LYC+Pb: animals treated with LYC and infected with Pb; NAC+Pb: animals treated with NAC and infected with Pb. The animals were followed for 12 days after infection, and survival and parasitemia rates were evaluated. There was a 40.1% increase in parasitemia in the animals of the Pb group on the 12th day, and a survival rate of 45%. LYC supplementation slowed the development of parasitemia to 19% and promoted a significative increase in the survival rate of 80% on the 12th day after infection, compared to the Pb group, effects superior to those promoted by NAC, providing strong evidence of the beneficial effect of LYC on in vivo malaria and stressing the importance of antioxidant supplementation in the treatment of this disease. anemia complications (LYC Pb, , (Pb) Nacetylcysteine N acetylcysteine NAC. . ABSTRACT Namalycastis abiuma has been recorded as a worldwide distributed species, found in most tropical and subtropical mangroves and estuarine environments. However, this status has been questioned in several publications, which indicate that several distinct species are being identified under the name N. abiuma. In this study, we perform a morphological analysis, along with a series of species delimitation tests and a phylogenetic analysis-using the molecular marker 16S-to evaluate whether analyzed populations previously identified as Namalycastis abiuma belong to the same species. We used sequences from the GenBank database in the analysis, as well as six newly sequenced specimens collected from the coast of Brazil, two of them from the N. abiuma type-locality. For species delimitation, we applied the Generalized Mixed Yule Coalescent (GMYC), the Assemble Species by Automatic Partitioning (ASAP), and the Multi-rate Poisson Tree Processes (mPTP) tests. Results from GMYC and ASAP suggest that Namalycastis abiuma may be endemic to the type-locality and that all other populations studied represent a second distinct species. However, mPTP indicates that all Namalycastis species included should be grouped into one single species. The mPTP results seem to be biased due to data limitation as it showed poor statistical support. Our morphological data, especially on the shape and dentition of the sub-neuroacicular falciger blades, support the GMYC and ASAP results, suggesting restricted endemism for Namalycastis abiuma. Based on these results, we conclude that N. abiuma is restricted to its type-locality and we provide a description of a new species, Namalycastis lanai sp. nov. occurring in Brazilian waters from 22°S to 27°S, including, at its southern range, an overlap with N. abiuma at Florianópolis. Mangroves are highly productive ecosystems that support a diverse range of plant, animal, and microorganism species, especially fungi. This ecosystem is characterized as a transition zone between sea and land which is interesting because this environment can be considered an extreme environment due to the peculiar characteristics that it can exhibit, which is interesting for the establishment of diverse fungal species with great biotechnological potential, these habitats are relevant for the bioprospecting of interesting secondary-metabolite-producing fungi. Fungi play an essential role in maintaining this environment and also represent a rich source of structurally diverse antimicrobial compounds. This review summarizes antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral chemicals produced by soil/sediment-derived mangrove fungi from 1990 to 2022. plant animal exhibit potential secondarymetaboliteproducing secondary metabolite producing compounds antibacterial antifungal soil/sedimentderived soilsedimentderived soil/sediment derived soil sediment 199 2022 sedimentderived soilsediment 19 202 1 20 2

ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82. ABSTRACT Objective Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is an endocrine disease characterized by metabolic, reproductive, and psychological manifestations. Growth and differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) is a cytokine associated with metabolic and inflammatory disorders. Metformin is commonly used for the treatment of PCOS. We investigated the relationship between GDF-15 levels and PCOS, the effect of metformin on GDF-15 levels, and potential biologic pathways related to GDF-15. Subjects and methods The study included 35 women with PCOS and 32 women without PCOS (controls). Both groups were compared in terms of GDF-15 levels. Additional analysis was conducted on samples from 22 women with PCOS who were treated with either metformin (n = 7) or placebo (n = 15), retrieved from a previous randomized, controlled trial. Levels of GDF-15 were measured using MILLIPLEX. The biologic pathways related to GDF-15 were evaluated using the databases STRING, SIGNOR, and Pathway Commons. The statistical analysis was conducted using the software SPSS. Results Levels of GDF-15 were higher in the PCOS group compared with the non-PCOS group (p = 0.039). Among women with PCOS, GDF-15 levels were higher in those treated with metformin compared with placebo (p = 0.007). The proteins related to GDF-15 overlapped between the databases, and a significant interaction was found between GDF-15 and proteins related to PCOS and its complications, including those related to estrogen response, oxidative stress, ovarian infertility, interleukin (IL)-18, IL-4, the ratio of advanced glycation end products to their receptor (AGE/RAGE), leptin, transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β), adipogenesis, and insulin. Conclusion The findings of the present study suggest a relationship between GDF-15 and PCOS and a potential increase in GDF-15 levels with metformin treatment. An additional finding was that GDF-15 could be involved in biologic pathways related to PCOS complications. Abstract To evaluate the fracture load of bilayer ceramic crowns manufactured by Rapid Layer Technology (RLT) after different cementation protocols of the veneering ceramic to the zirconia infrastructures. Sixty epoxy resin preparations simulating a molar tooth were obtained and 60 zirconia infrastructures and feldspathic crowns were manufactured by RLT and divided into 6 groups according to the cementation protocol at the interface to veneering ceramic (n=10): Ctr- control: conventional resin cement; Al- Al2O3 sandblasting 50µm + conventional resin cement; Al/MDP- Al2O3 sandblasting (50µm) + resin cement with MDP; Sil- silicatization 30µm + conventional resin cement; Gl/HF- glaze + hydrofluoridric acid (5%,60s) + silane + conventional resin cement; Gl- glazing as bonding agent. The feldspathic ceramic internal surface was etched with fluoridric acid (5%) + silane followed by cementation according to respective protocols. All samples were mechanically cycled (200N and 4.5x105 Pa, 37°C, 2x106 cycles, 3.4Hz) and submitted to axial compressing fracture load test (10kN, 0.5mm/min). The results(N) were submitted to descriptive and analytical statistical analysis with 1-way ANOVA, Weibull, and the Tukey test (α=0.05). ANOVA revealed that there was a significant difference among the tested groups (p<0.0001). The group Al/MDP presented the higher resistance to fracture (1972.46A N), followed by the Ctr group (1584.41B N). The characteristic strength(σ0) was significantly different (p=0.000). The crack and chipping were the predominant failures. The air-abrasion at the external surface of zirconia with Al2O3 followed by cementation with MDP resin cement, should be selected to Rapid Layer Technique when felspathic ceramic is used as veneer ceramic. Abstract: The article aims to analyze categories of the exercise of power within the political and legislative processes related to proposals to amend Law No. 11.771/2008, known as the General Tourism Law and the main legal framework of Brazilian tourism. Through a qualitative approach, we analyzed bills that alter the norm, as well as drafts and expressed justifications. Communication notes from tourism organizations and minutes of meetings of the National Tourism Council were also analyzed. The study revealed that the main parties involved with the changes are the public sector, members of the National Tourism Council, and private groups. The changes focus on favoring private business in tourism, and although the National Tourism Council is not the only forum for presenting the interests of those involved, it has proven to be a relevant space for joint reflection on changes in the norm. The research highlights the need to identify those involved and their interests in relation to a norm that is structuring Brazilian tourism. Moreover, it shows that tourism is an area in constant dispute with agents and organizations that exercise their power and this entails consequences for tourism and its public policies. ABSTRACT It is believed that nitrogen fertilization will attenuate the salt stress on pearl millet plants. Thus, the objective was to evaluate the agronomic performance of the millet crop under different saline water irrigation strategies and nitrogen fertilization. The experimental design adopted was completely randomized (CRD), in a 4 x 2 factorial scheme, with 4 replicates, with the first factor being four irrigation strategies: S1 = low-salinity water (W1) = 0.3 dS m-1 throughout the cycle; S2 = saline water (W2) = 4.0 dS m-1 from 30 days after sowing - DAS; S3 = W2 from 45 DAS; and S4 = W2 from 65 DAS; and the second factor being two nitrogen doses (60 and 120 kg ha-1 of N). At the end of the experiment, the following variables were evaluated: photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance, instantaneous water use efficiency, internal CO2 concentration, leaf temperature, plant height, stem diameter, root length, panicle length, leaf dry mass, stem dry mass and root dry mass. Fertilization with 60 and 120 kg ha-1 promotes greater photosynthesis, transpiration, stomatal conductance and internal CO2 concentration in millet plants under the strategies S1, S2 and S3. The strategies S1 and S4 were more efficient to increase the efficient use of water and reduce leaf temperature. Thus CRD, CRD , (CRD) scheme replicates S lowsalinity low salinity W1 W (W1 03 0 3 0. m1 m 1 m- cycle (W2 40 4. DAS 6 (6 12 ha1 ha ha- N. N .
