Abstract Objective: To summarize data of clinical trials that used silver diamine fluoride (SDF) to prevent and treat caries lesions and dentinal hypersensitivity. Material and Methods: Six electronic databases were searched in May 2022. The concentration of SDF, type of usage (alone/combined), dentition, anterior/posterior teeth, tooth region, dental tissue, number of the treated surfaces, the intervention environment, participants' age, frequency and duration of SDF application, purpose, and outcome were the extracted variables. The type of study, year of publication, authors, journals, and country were also investigated. Results: From 8860 articles, S3 were selected. Most were randomized (n=38), that applied 38% SDF (n=43), alone (n=44), on multiple surfaces (n=44), only in dentin (n=36), of the crown (n=46) of anterior and posterior (n=36) primary teeth (n=39). The studies were preferably carried out outside the clinic (n=3l), only in children (n=33), with reapplication of SDF (n=30), but did not inform the duration of application (n= 19). SDF was most used to treat (n=46) only caries lesions (n=50). They were published between 2001 and 2022, mainly in the Journal of Dentistry (n=10). China (n=19) and Lo E.GM (n=19) were the countries and authors that published the most, respectively. Conclusion: The silver diamine fluoride 38% alone was most used to treat caries lesions in the dentin of the crown of all primary teeth, preferably applied on multiple surfaces, requiring re application, and outside the clinic. RESUMO Objetivo verificar a associação entre a percepção das mães de prematuros a respeito dos fatores que podem interferir no aleitamento e as características socioeconômicas da mãe, da gestação e clínicas do recém-nascido. Método estudo qualiquantitativo observacional, descritivo e analítico do tipo transversal. Foram incluídas 114 mães de prematuros. Os dados foram coletados por meio de questionários, aplicados à alta hospitalar e análise dos prontuários. As respostas maternas sobre as interferências observadas no processo do aleitamento foram categorizadas por análise de conteúdo e associadas aos dados socioeconômicos, da gestação e do recém-nascido (RN). Resultados as percepções das mães quanto aos fatores que interferem na alimentação do RN ao seio materno foram divididas em quatro categorias semânticas: condições clínicas e/ou físicas do RN; condições clínicas, físicas e/ou psicoemocionais da mãe; rede de apoio; e estratégias para iniciar e/ou manter o aleitamento materno. Escolaridade, presença paterna, possuir outros filhos e tê-los amamentado apresentaram associação com a percepção materna de que suas condições clínicas, físicas e ou psicoemocionais interferem no aleitamento. Além disso, a rede de apoio esteve associada ao aleitamento materno exclusivo à alta. ABSTRACT Purpose to verify the association between the perception of mothers of premature infants regarding the features that may interfere with breastfeeding and the mother's socioeconomic data, pregnancy and the baby's clinical data. Methods observational, descriptive and analytical quali-quantitative cross-sectional study. One hundred and fourteen mothers of premature infants were included and data were collected through questionnaires, applied at hospital discharge, and analysis of medical records. Maternal responses about the interference observed in the breastfeeding process were categorized by content analysis and associated with socioeconomic, pregnancy and baby data. Results the mothers' perceptions regarding the factors that interfere with the baby's feeding at the mother's breast were divided into four semantic categories: clinical and/or physical conditions of the baby; clinical, physical and/or psycho-emotional conditions of the mother; support network; and strategies for initiating and/or maintaining breastfeeding. Education, paternal presence, having other children and having breastfed them were associated with the maternal perception that their clinical, physical and/or psycho-emotional conditions interfere with breastfeeding. ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate the trends of research on niobium (Nb) in dentistry to determine its use in dental materials. Material and Methods: Electronic searches were carried out in six databases. Studies that evaluated niobium alloys in dentistry in vitro, in situ, and in vivo (humans and animals) were included. Data on publication year, authors, country, journal, study design, application area, niobium alloy, study approach, assay type and results (positive, negative and null compared to controls) were grouped and analyzed in VantagePoint™ and Excel. Descriptive analyses of frequency, cross-tables and co-occurrence matrices were performed. Results: After screening, 315 studies published between 1977 and 2021 were included, with an increase in publications between 2011 and 2021 (n = 209; 66.3%). “Doi, H” was the top author (n = 9; 2.8%), and Brazil was the most productive country (n = 70; 22.2%). “Dental Materials” was the major contributing journal (n = 24; 7.6%), and most studies were carried out in vitro (n = 266; 84.4%), under implant surfaces (n = 162; 51.4%), followed by dental prostheses (n = 77; 24.4%) and restorative materials (n = 27; 8.6%). The most common niobium was a ternary alloy (n = 147; 46.7%), which was mainly tested in vitro via structural characterization or material improvement (n = 131; 41.6%). Mechanical assays (n = 114; 36.2%) were the most prevalent. Positive effects of niobium were found in 264 articles (83.8%), and negative effects were found in 13 articles (4.1%). Conclusion: The number of studies on niobium has increased over time, resulting in improvements in the mechanical properties of materials used in dental practice. ABSTRACT Objective: To investigate associations/correlations between bone alterations and vitamin D status in children through data mining analyses based on observational studies. Material and Methods: Searches in PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, and Embase databases were performed to recover studies, published until October 2022, with healthy children, which investigated the vitamin D status, related or not to undesirable bone alterations linked to bone quality (bone mineral density and bone mineral content), fracture or anthropometry. Country, study design, area of expertise (medicine, nutrition, dentistry, others), bone outcome, 25-hydroxyvitamin D data (serum or intake levels), the exams for bone diagnosis, and the results were analyzed in the VantagePointTM software. Results: Of 20,583 studies, 27 were included. The USA (n=9; 33.3%) had the highest number of publications. Cross-sectional (n=11; 40.7%), case-control (n=9; 33.3%), and cohort studies (n=7; 25.9%) contemplated the medicine and nutritional areas without any study in dentistry. Studies about bone quality (n=21; 77.8%), analyzed through dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA; n=14; 51.8%), with association (n=16; 59.2%) between the low serum levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D and undesirable bone alterations (n=14; 51.8%) were the most prevalent. Conclusion: Most studies were conducted in the medical area and showed an association between low bone quality and low levels of 25-hydroxyvitamin D, verified through DXA. ABSTRACT Objective: To identify the clinical presentation of molar incisor hypomineralization (MIH) and hypomineralization of second primary molars (HSPM), including the distribution patterns of presence and severity of lesions, and to investigate the association of risk factors during the pre-and postnatal period with the presence of lesions. Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 160 individuals (72 with MIH/HSPM and 88 without lesions). The symmetry analysis regarding the presence and severity of MIH/HSPM was evaluated in pairs of homologous and opposite teeth. Sociodemographic and medical information was obtained using a detailed questionnaire. Data were analyzed by means of chi-square tests, Student’s t-test, and logistic regression (p<0.05). Results: Symmetry of presence and severity of hypomineralization lesions were present in homologous permanent teeth in 53.8% and 70.5% of cases, respectively, with statistically significant results only for the symmetrical pattern of severity of MIH lesions in the maxillary first molars (p=0.016) and mandibular first molars (p=0.02). Otherwise, a non-symmetric presence was statistically significant in homologous second primary molars (p=0.002) and opposite primary and permanent teeth (p≤0.001). An association between MIH/HSPM and systemic diseases during pregnancy and children medication was found (p<0.05); however, no evidence was found between these and MIH/HSPM severity. Conclusion: The symmetric pattern of severity of MIH lesions was statistically significant in permanent homologous teeth. Risk factors during pre and postnatal periods may be related to MIH/HSPM; however, these do not seem to interact with severity. RESUMO Objetivo: Avaliar in-vitro o efeito de uma aplicação única de cremes dentais de CPP-ACP e diferentes soluções fluoretadas na prevenção da cárie dentária ao redor de braquetes ortodônticos Material e Métodos: O conjunto dentes/braquetes (n=65) foi imerso em saliva artificial (1h em 37°C) randomizado e submetido a tratamento único (100µL; 1 min) de emulsão de fosfopeptídeo de caseína-fosfato de cálcio amorfo (CPP-ACP) e CPP-ACP associado ao flúor (CPP-ACPF); soluções de tetrafluoreto de titânio (TiF4) e fluoreto de sódio (NaF); e ausência de tratamento (GC). Biofilmes multiespécie (5 x 105 CFU/mL) foram formados na presença de sacarose a 2%. Após 24h, o pH e a concentração de fluoreto solúvel total (FST) foram analisados pelo meio de cultura. Foram avaliadas a presença de lesões de mancha branca (LMB), por meio da análise de macroscopia visual, e a porcentagem de perda de dureza (%PD). Também foi verificada a topografia do esmalte, usando microscopia eletrônica de varredura (MEV). Os dados foram analisados pelos testes Qui-quadrado, Kruskal-Wallis e Mann-Whitney (p < 0,05). Resultados: Os compostos contendo flúor levaram a uma redução do pH menor do que o CPP-ACP e GC (p<0,05). Houve diferença no FST entre os grupos (p <0,05), sendo TiF4> NaF > CPP-ACPF > CPP-ACP > GC. Quanto à presença de LMB e à %PD, o grupo NaF obteve os menores valores (p<0,05), enquanto TiF4 e CPP-ACPF foram semelhantes (p> 0,05). A MEV demonstrou que os grupos sem flúor tiveram uma dissolução superficial maior. Conclusão: Os grupos fluoretados, incluindo soluções e CPP-ACPF, foram mais eficazes do que o CPP-ACP sem flúor na redução da desmineralização do esmalte ao redor dos braquetes ortodônticos após uma única aplicação. ABSTRACT Objective: To assess the in-vitro effect of single applications of CPP-ACP pastes and different fluoridated solutions on the prevention of dental caries around orthodontic brackets. Material and Methods: Tooth/bracket sets (n=65) were immersed in artificial saliva (1h at 37ºC) and randomly subjected to single applications (100µL; 1min) of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP emulsion), CPP-ACP with fluoride (CPP-ACPF emulsion), solutions of titanium tetrafluoride (TiF4) or sodium fluoride (NaF), or no treatment (CG). Multispecies biofilm (5 x 105 CFU/mL) was formed in the presence of 2% sucrose. After 24 h, the pH and the concentration of total soluble fluoride (TSF) were analyzed by culture medium. The presence of active white spot lesions (WSL) evaluated by macroscopic examination and the percent surface mineral loss (%SML) were analyzed. Also, the topography of enamel was detected by analysis of scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The data was assessed by chi-square, Kruskal-Wallis, and Mann-Whitney tests (p < 0.05). Results: Fluoride-containing compounds led to a smaller pH reduction than did CPP-ACP and CG (p<0.05). There was difference in TSF between the groups (p<0.05), denoted as TiF4> NaF > CPP-ACPF > CPP-ACP > CG. Regarding the presence of WSL and %SML, the NaF group obtained lower values (p<0.05), while TiF4 and CPP-ACPF were similar (p>0.05). SEM demonstrated that fluoride-free groups had a larger surface dissolution. Conclusion: Fluoridated groups including solutions and CPP-ACPF were more effective than CPP-ACP in reducing enamel demineralization around orthodontic brackets after a single application. Resumo Esta revisão avaliou o conhecimento dos profissionais de saúde (PS) sobre amamentação e fatores que levam ao desmame. Realizou-se buscas em quatro bancos de dados eletrônicos e literatura cinzenta. A estratégia de busca incluiu termos Mesh e sinônimos. Não se adotou restrição de idioma ou data. Estudos avaliando o conhecimento dos PS sobre amamentação e desmame foram elegíveis. Estudos recuperados pelas buscas foram avaliados por dois examinadores independentes. Dos 1.417 estudos recuperados, 35 foram incluídos. Muitos países e PS de diferentes áreas foram analisados. Nenhum estudo avaliou o conhecimento dos dentistas. Embora os PS conheçam os benefícios da amamentação, a duração recomendada pela Organização Mundial da Saúde, exclusiva ou não, não está alinhada com o endosso de todos os PS. Considerando o desmame, a informação é escassa. No entanto, os PS estão atentos às principais causas potenciais do desmame precoce. O conhecimento dos PS é conflitante sobre amamentação e incomum sobre o desmame. Não foram encontrados estudos que apresentassem dados sobre o conhecimento de dentistas sobre a temática. Investigações quanto ao conhecimento dos mesmos e medidas de educação para todos os PS são necessárias, considerando que são frequentemente questionados sobre o tema.

Abstract This review evaluated the knowledge of health professionals (HP) about breastfeeding and factors that leading the weaning. A search was performed in four electronics databases and the grey literature. The search strategy included Mesh terms and synonyms. No language or date restrictions were adopted. Studies that evaluated the knowledge of HP about breastfeeding and weaning were considered eligible. The studies retrieved by the searches were evaluated by two independently examiners. From 1,417 studies retrieved, 35 were included. Many countries and professionals from different health areas were analyzed. No studies evaluated the dentists’ knowledge. Although the included HP know the benefits of breastfeeding for health, the length of breastfeeding recommended by the World Health Organization, exclusive or not, was not aligned with all professionals’ endorsement. Information about weaning is scarce; however, HP are mindful of the main potential causes of early weaning. The knowledge of HP is conflicting about breastfeeding and unusual about weaning. Furthermore, no studies were found that presented data on the knowledge of dentists on the subject. Thus, assessments of dentists’ knowledge and education measures for HP are necessary since they are frequently questioned about these issues.

BACKGROUND In Brazil, the yellow fever virus (YFV) is maintained in a sylvatic cycle involving wild mosquitoes and non-human primates (NHPs). The virus is endemic to the Amazon region; however, waves of epidemic expansion reaching other Brazilian states sporadically occur, eventually causing spillovers to humans. OBJECTIVES To report a surveillance effort that led to the first confirmation of YFV in NHPs in the state of Minas Gerais (MG), Southeast region, in 2021. METHODS A surveillance network was created, encompassing the technology of smartphone applications and coordinated actions of several research institutions and health services to monitor and investigate NHP epizootics. FINDINGS When alerts were spread through the network, samples from NHPs were collected and YFV infection confirmed by reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) and genome sequencing at an interval of only 10 days. Near-complete genomes were generated using the Nanopore MinION sequencer. Phylogenetic analysis indicated that viral genomes were related to the South American genotype I, clustering with a genome detected in the Amazon region (state of Pará) in 2017, named YFVPA/MG sub-lineage. Fast YFV confirmation potentialised vaccination campaigns. MAIN CONCLUSIONS A new YFV introduction was detected in MG 6 years after the beginning of the major outbreak reported in the state (2015-2018). The YFV strain was not related to the sub-lineages previously reported in MG. No human cases have been reported, suggesting the importance of coordinated surveillance of NHPs using available technologies and supporting laboratories to ensure a quick response and implementation of contingency measures to avoid YFV spillover to humans.

Abstract This study aimed to characterize the profile of dental anxiety in pediatric patients, identifying the effect exerted by socioeconomic factors using dental data. A cross-sectional study design with a sample of 120 children aged 7–12 years old was used. Data relating to anxiety levels prior to dental care, socioeconomic aspects (family income, education level, child’s school type), and child’s dental history (previous dental appointments, previous treatment, caries experience) were collected. Additionally, participants completed the Brazilian version of the Children’s Fear Survey Schedule- Dental Subscale (B-CFSS-DS) to assess dental anxiety. Descriptive analyses, chi-squared (X 2 ) tests, and Mann-Whitney U tests were performed, with a significance level of 5%. A total of 51 boys (42.5%) and 69 girls (57.5%) were included. There was no significant difference in dental anxiety between them. However, younger children had higher mean B-CFSS-DS scores (p = 0.036, Mann-Whitney). A higher prevalence of dental anxiety was found in participants from low-income families (p = 0.012, X 2 ) and in patients who did not receive endodontic treatment (p=0.034, X 2 ). Higher mean B-CFSS-DS scores were also observed in participants who did not receive endodontic treatment (p=0.001, Mann-Whitney) compared with those that did receive endodontic treatment. No relationship was found between education level, patient school type, first dental appointment, caries experience, and dental anxiety data. Younger children presented a profile of greater dental anxiety. Socioeconomic factors and dental data exerted some effect on dental anxiety, where children from low-income families and those not subjected to endodontic treatment displayed higher rates of dental anxiety.

RESUMO Contexto: A doença inflamatória intestinal (DII) é uma doença imunomediada que inclui a doença de Crohn (DC) e a retocolite ulcerativa. A DC é caracterizada por um envolvimento intestinal transmural da boca ao ânus com sintomas recorrentes e remitentes que podem levar a danos intestinais progressivos e incapacidade ao longo do tempo. Objetivo: Orientar os tratamentos médicos mais seguros e eficazes de adultos com DC. Métodos: Este consenso foi desenvolvido por autores que representam gastroenterologistas e cirurgiões brasileiros especialistas em doenças colorretais (GEDIIB, Organização Brasileira de Doença de Crohn e Colite). Uma revisão sistemática das evidências mais recentes foi realizada para apoiar as recomendações/declarações. Todas as recomendações e declarações incluídas foram endossadas em um painel Delphi modificado pelas partes interessadas e especialistas em DII com uma concordância de pelo menos 80% ou mais. Resultados e conclusão: As recomendações médicas (intervenções farmacológicas e não farmacológicas) foram mapeadas de acordo com o estágio de tratamento e gravidade da doença em três domínios: manejo e tratamento (intervenções medicamentosas e cirúrgicas), critérios para avaliar a eficácia do tratamento médico, e acompanhamento/monitoramento do paciente após o tratamento inicial. A RCU é uma doença progressiva que acomete a mucosa colorretal causando sintomas debilitantes levando a alta morbidade e incapacidade laboral. Como consequência da inflamação crônica do cólon, a RCU também está associada a um risco aumentado de câncer colorretal. Objetivo: Este consenso visa fornecer orientações sobre o manejo médico mais eficaz de pacientes adultos com RCU. Métodos: As recomendações do consenso foram desenvolvidas por gastroenterologistas e cirurgiões colorretais referências no Brasil (membros da Organização Brasileira para Doença de Crohn e Colite [GEDIIB]). Uma revisão sistemática, incluindo as evidências mais recentes, foi conduzida para apoiar as recomendações. Todas as recomendações foram endossadas pelas partes interessadas/especialistas em doença inflamatória intestinal usando um Painel Delphi modificado. O nível de concordância para alcançar consenso foi de 80% ou mais. Abstract Objective: To evaluate TIF4 preventive and therapeutic use in caries and erosive lesions. Material and Methods: Searches were performed in six databases. Studies evaluating TiF4 use in vitro, in situ, and in vivo in caries and erosive lesions were included and imported into VantagePoint™ (VP). Data about publication year, authors, country, journal, study design, outcomes, TIF4 vehicles, application and intervention time, cariogenic challenge, erosive cycles, effects (positive/ negative /null) and approach (preventive/therapeutic) were analyzed through VP and Excel. Results: 93 published studies were included and an increase in publications was observed between 2010 and 2021. Forty-three authors published three or more articles, of which 67.4% were developed in Brazil and published in Caries Research (22.6%). 69.9% were in vitro studies with erosion assays (59.1%) and with preventive approaches (67.4%). The principal vehicle was a solution (69.9%) with a 1-min single application (58.0%) and with an intervention time of 5-7 days (22.6%). The principal cariogenic challenge in vitro was pH cycling (11.8%); in situ was sucrose + biofilm (6.2%); and in vivo, biofilm (6.2%). The most used erosive cycle was 4× per day in in vitro studies (20.4%) and 1× in vivo (2.1%). A positive effect was observed in prevention (41.9%) and treatment (24.7%) studies.
