Abstract Bovine trypanosomosis, caused by Trypanosoma vivax, is a disease that originated in Africa and currently affects cattle in several South American countries, including almost all Brazilian states. Despite the reports on T. vivax infection in southern Brazil, data on its circulation status is currently unavailable. In this study, we aimed to detect anti-Trypanosoma spp. IgG antibodies in cattle from Rio Grande do Sul and suggest areas with T. vivax transmission risk. A total of 691 serum samples from cattle in the intermediate regions of Rio Grande do Sul were analyzed using indirect immunofluorescence assay (IFA). The overall seroprevalence of anti-Trypanosoma antibodies in cattle was 24.6% (170/691). The detection rate ranged from 0-37.3%, with a high prevalence in the intermediate regions of Ijuí (37.3%), Uruguaiana (30.7%), and Passo Fundo (28.9%). Thus, these regions were suggested as possible bovine trypanosomosis risk areas due to the high seroprevalence. This is the first serological study to determine Trypanosoma spp. infection status in cattle from Rio Grande do Sul, providing data on the epidemiology of trypanosomosis in the state. countries states T Brazil unavailable antiTrypanosoma anti spp 69 IFA. Abstract Background Streptococcus pneumoniae bacteremia may result in Infective Endocarditis (IE). In the pre-antibiotic era, it caused 10 %‒15 % of IE, decreasing to < 3 % after penicillin availability. Although infrequent, it causes aggressive disease. Methods Retrospective analysis of endocarditis databases, prospectively implemented in 4 Brazilian institutions, 2005‒2023. Results From the prospective cohorts comprising 2321 adult patients with IE, we identified 11 (0.47%) with pneumococcal IE. Males represented 7/11 and mean age was 54 years (22‒77). All had native valve involvement; perivalvular abscess was present in 6/11. Only one patient had concurrent meningitis. Beta-lactams were the antibiotics used in 10/11. All had surgical indication, but only 6 had it, as the others were seriously ill. Overall, in hospital mortality was 6/11, but only 1/6 of those who underwent surgery died, compared to 5/5 of those who had an indication for surgery and did not have it. Conclusions The high mortality rates and need for surgical intervention emphasize the need to promptly identify and manage pneumococcal endocarditis. Physicians ought to recommend vaccination to all patients at risk for severe pneumococcal disease. IE . ABSTRACT The limited temporal completeness and taxonomic accuracy of species lists, made available in a traditional manner in scientific publications, has always represented a problem. These lists are invariably limited to a few taxonomic groups and do not represent up-to-date knowledge of all species and classifications. In this context, the Brazilian megadiverse fauna is no exception, and the Catálogo Taxonômico da Fauna do Brasil (CTFB) (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/), made public in 2015, represents a database on biodiversity anchored on a list of valid and expertly recognized scientific names of animals in Brazil. The CTFB is updated in near real time by a team of more than 800 specialists. By January 1, 2024, the CTFB compiled 133,691 nominal species, with 125,138 that were considered valid. Most of the valid species were arthropods (82.3%, with more than 102,000 species) and chordates (7.69%, with over 11,000 species). These taxa were followed by a cluster composed of Mollusca (3,567 species), Platyhelminthes (2,292 species), Annelida (1,833 species), and Nematoda (1,447 species). All remaining groups had less than 1,000 species reported in Brazil, with Cnidaria (831 species), Porifera (628 species), Rotifera (606 species), and Bryozoa (520 species) representing those with more than 500 species. Analysis of the CTFB database can facilitate and direct efforts towards the discovery of new species in Brazil, but it is also fundamental in providing the best available list of valid nominal species to users, including those in science, health, conservation efforts, and any initiative involving animals. The importance of the CTFB is evidenced by the elevated number of citations in the scientific literature in diverse areas of biology, law, anthropology, education, forensic science, and veterinary science, among others. publications problem uptodate up date classifications context exception (CTFB http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/, httpfaunajbrjgovbr http //fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ , jbrj gov br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/) 2015 Brazil 80 specialists 1 2024 133691 133 691 133,69 125138 125 138 125,13 82.3%, 823 82 3 (82.3% 102000 102 000 102,00 7.69%, 769 7 69 (7.69% 11000 11 11,00 . 3,567 3567 567 (3,56 2,292 2292 2 292 (2,29 1,833 1833 833 (1,83 1,447 1447 447 (1,44 1000 1,00 831 (83 628 (62 606 (60 520 (52 50 users science health biology law anthropology education others http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ faunajbrjgovbr //fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br/ 201 8 202 13369 13 133,6 12513 12 125,1 82.3% (82.3 10200 10 00 102,0 7.69% 76 6 (7.69 1100 11,0 3,56 356 56 (3,5 2,29 229 29 (2,2 1,83 183 83 (1,8 1,44 144 44 (1,4 100 1,0 (8 62 (6 60 52 (5 5 http//fauna.jbrj.gov.br (http://fauna.jbrj.gov.br 20 1336 133, 1251 125, 82.3 (82. 1020 0 102, 7.69 (7.6 110 11, 3,5 35 (3, 2,2 22 (2, 1,8 18 (1, 1,4 14 4 ( 82.
ABSTRACT There is a global interest in the detection of toxic gases for the protection of the environment and human beings, using low-cost and easy-to-use sensors. Multiple studies have focused on the use of gas detectors based on metal oxides, such as zinc oxide (ZnO), which has specific electronic properties as a gas detector because it is an n-type semiconductor and it has a low production cost. The objective of this work was to analyze the use of ZnO nanostructures for the manufacturing of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) gas sensors, as well as the most common techniques for obtaining these structures. The characteristics of zinc oxide nanostructures (NE´s-ZnO) vary due to the effect of the obtaining method, generating different morphologies and sizes, which impacts gas detection performance (0.5 ppm up to 600 ppm) and in the temperature range that is required. Advances in the design of various NE’s-ZnO will have the possibility of generating sensors that can be used in portable detectors and operate at room temperature, which is a current challenge.

Abstract We present a 10-year-old male patient with a diagnosis of relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML), presenting with high-risk febrile neutropenia (HRFN), after a cycle of intensive chemotherapy, evolving with an invasive fungal infection demonstrated by histopathology. Treatment with intravenous voriconazole was started, with erratic plasmatic levels, which require successive dose adjustments which also occurred with oral administration. Finally, he had a favorable response to treatment, despite of the dosing difficulties to reach therapeutic levels. Active search as well as preemptive antifungal therapy, together with plasmatic level monitorization of voriconazole allowed a prompt recovery and improved the patient prognosis.

ABSTRACT It is a reality that once the World Health Organization declares COVID-19 as a pandemic, Peru does not escape this reality, education being one of the most affected, moving from a face-to-face education to a virtual education that became a responsibility of parents who were unaccustomed who lacked the technological and didactic skills to teach. The research is documentary, using the content analysis method. It was concluded that preparation for parents who do not have pedagogical skills is ideal when training their children at home.

Abstract We hereby present SIGI, an integral automated, web-based system for Research Data Management and generation of metric indicators. SIGI is an information platform and database system created to manage all data related to the academic activity of a teaching-research institution, and to generate annual reports and metric indicators at the individual and institutional levels. It integrates data related to traditional academic bibliographic products with other aspects of the academic activity (e.g., those related to teaching or outreach). From this rich database, SIGI automatically generates metric indicators that are used in the creation of individual researcher profiles and in institutional evaluations and reports. We also show two examples of scientometrics analyses that can be carried out using the system: the internal collaboration network and the international collaboration map of a particular research institute. We conclude by discussing the example institute´s overall experience with the system and how it could be adopted by other institutions, both nationally and internationally.

Abstract This work focused on the development of competencies using information and communication technologies (TIC), and in a particular way on the use of GeoGebra (educational software) as a teaching-learning strategy of mathematics in secondary education students. The research design was quasi-experimental in nature; it allowed inferring the causal relationships between variables, one independent and two dependents. The sample was made up of 60 students from two groups of the seventh grade of the José Miguel de Restrepo y Puerta Educational Institution, in the municipality of Copacabana, Colombia, whose ages ranged between 12 and 15 years, and who took the subject of Mathematics, a course where the GeoGebra software package and other IT tools were implemented for the experimental group. Among the results stands out the value of ICT for teaching geometric concepts and the development of spatial thinking, as well as for students to acquire skills necessary for life.

Abstract This paper focuses on the study of the training processes of rural education teachers who work in the Tequendama region, department of Cundinamarca (Colombia), specifically in three institutions located in the municipality of San Antonio del Tequendama. This object of analysis was chosen due to the need to study teacher training both in pedagogical aspects and in the use of technological tools, essential knowledge to improve the quality of training at various educational levels. The participants, chosen for convenience, were 90 teachers who worked in the 2019 school year. To collect the information, a survey consisting of 27 questions was used in which the training of rural teachers and the knowledge and use of ICT were related. in the classroom. The results show, in terms of ICT, that these technological means are used by teachers more for private and personal purposes than pedagogical, so they have not had the expected impact within the teaching-learning processes. In addition, it should be noted that in this work it has been shown that teachers have not been trained for work in rural areas, environments in which there are particularities and needs that are very different from those of urban areas.
