Exploring the triacylglycerols composition in milk samples from different ruminant species is crucial for dairy product development. Identifying the fatty acid (FA) composition in human milk is essential and is usually performed using gas chromatography (GC). Heat maps are useful for visualizing these results, aiding in pattern identification and relationships between samples and variables. Additionally, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy provides important qualitative and quantitative information about fatty acids (FA). In the present study, we compare the fatty acid composition in samples of HM, cow milk, and goat milk, as well as to demonstrate their positional distribution in triacylglycerols (TAGs). Human milk contains 49.21% saturated fatty acids (SFAs), 34.32% monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA), and 16.47% polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), including 2.14% docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and 13.02% linoleic acid (LA). On the other hand, cow and goat milk have higher proportions of SFAs (56.2 and 58.02%, respectively) and MUFAs (40.56 and 40.95%, respectively), but lower amounts of PUFAs (3.24 and 1.03%, respectively), with significantly lower quantities of DHA (0.03 and 0.43%, respectively) and LA (1.46 and 2.76%, respectively). RESUMO: Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar o impacto da silagem de ração total de Megathyrsus maximus colhido com 70 cm de altura e concentrado no momento da silagem ou ração total de capim cortado a 70 cm, composta por Megathyrsus maximus colhido com 70 cm de altura (nos Exp. Porém, o excesso de Fe e Cu no solo pode causar toxicidade e afetar o desenvolvimento das plantas. O objetivo desse estudo foi avaliar os efeitos das concentrações de Cu e Fe no solo na emergência das plântulas, bem como no metabolismo dos principais compostos de reserva e na biomassa de raízes, caules, folhas e cotilédones de Canavalia ensiformis. O experimento foi conduzido em casa de vegetação, em delineamento inteiramente casualizado; os tratamentos de Cu e Fe no solo foram: (controle, 50, 150, 250 e 350 mg dm-3) durante um período de 10 dias. A emergência das plântulas não foi afetada pelos tratamentos avaliados; entretanto, os resultados mostraram aumento do índice de velocidade de emergência (EVI) para o tratamento com Fe na dose de 150 mg dm-3 de solo em comparação com 350 mg dm-3 de solo. ABSTRACT Plants require iron (Fe) and copper (Cu) at low concentrations for metabolic functions; however, excess soil Fe and Cu can cause toxicity and affect plant development. The objective of this study was to assess the effects of soil Cu and Fe concentrations on seedling emergence, as well as on the metabolism of the main reserve compounds and the biomass in roots, stems, leaves, and cotyledons of Canavalia ensiformis. A greenhouse experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design; the Cu and Fe treatments in the soil were: (control, 50, 150, 250 and 350 mg dm-3) over a period of 10 days. Seedling emergence was not affected by the evaluated treatments; however, the results showed an increase in the emergence speed index (EVI) for the Fe treatment at a dose of 150 mg dm-3 of soil compared to 350 mg dm-3 of soil. Resumo Enquadramento: A literacia em saúde (LS) é a capacidade da pessoa obter e traduzir informações a fim de manter e melhorar a saúde. Objetivo: Caracterizar o nível de LS da pessoa internada num hospital oncológico; avaliar a fiabilidade do instrumento European Health Literacy Survey in Portuguese (HLS-EU-PT). Metodologia: Estudo transversal, quantitativo, descritivo e metodológico. Amostra de 188 pessoas internados num serviço de cirurgia oncológica entre maio e setembro de 2020, os dados foram colhidos através de formulário de caracterização sociodemográfica, de saúde e instrumento de avaliação da LS. Resultados: O HLS-EU-PT apresentou elevado nível de consistência interna. Todos os domínios e níveis de processamento do instrumento se correlacionam positivamente entre si. Os participantes apresentam em média um nível problemático de LS. Conclusão: Os resultados indiciam a necessidade de um maior investimento na capacitação da LS. São necessários mais estudos nesta e noutras populações e contextos de prestação de cuidados de saúde, de forma a direcionar a prática de cuidados na resposta eficaz aos problemas de saúde.

Abstract Background: Health literacy (HL) is the ability of an individual to obtain and translate information in order to maintain and improve their health. Objective: To characterize the level of HL of patients admitted to an oncology hospital and assess the reliability of the Portuguese version of the European Health Literacy Survey (HLS-EU-PT). Methodology: Cross-sectional, quantitative, descriptive, and methodological study. Sample of 188 patients admitted to a surgical oncology unit between May and September 2020. Data were collected through a sociodemographic and health characterization form and a HL assessment tool. Results: The HLS-EU-PT had a high level of internal consistency. All domains and information-processing levels correlated positively with each other. Participants had on average a problematic level of HL. Conclusion: The results indicate the need for greater investment in HL training. Further studies are needed in this population and in other populations and healthcare settings to provide an effective response to health problems.

Resumen Marco contextual: La alfabetización en salud (AS) es la capacidad de una persona para obtener y traducir información con el fin de mantener y mejorar su salud. Objetivo: Caracterizar el nivel de AS de las personas ingresadas en un hospital oncológico; evaluar la fiabilidad del instrumento European Health Literacy Survey in Portuguese (HLS-EU-PT). Metodología: Estudio transversal, cuantitativo, descriptivo y metodológico. Muestra de 188 personas ingresadas en un servicio de cirugía oncológica entre mayo y septiembre de 2020, se recogieron datos mediante un formulario de caracterización sociodemográfica y de salud, y una herramienta de evaluación de AS. ABSTRACT Considering the need for studies on the potential of immersive environments in education, this paper aims to investigate the relevance of Augmented Reality in ESL/EFL in the shortand long-term vocabulary learning. It also investigates the effects of this immersive environment on students with different proficiency levels, elementary and intermediate levels. Theoretically, the study is based on the assumptions of the Embodied Cognition theory, which considers the mind and our bodily experiences with the external world as central elements in the processing and acquisition of knowledge. ABSTRACT The interaction between bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes and N-fixing microorganisms has the potential to be utilized in sustainable agricultural production. Thus, the aim of this study was to verify the effects of the interaction for growth, production and nodulation characteristics between the bacteria Rhizobium tropici and Azospirillum brasilense among different bean genotypes. The experiments were conducted in the Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in 2018 and 2019, in randomized block design with three replicates in a 20 × 3 factorial scheme; 20 common bean genotypes were tested under three forms of inoculation (no inoculation, inoculation with R. tropici, co-inoculation of R. tropici + A. brasilense). The number of grains per pod and nodule mass had the most significant direct positive effect on grain yield. For nodulation, a positive correlation of strong magnitude was observed between mass of the aerial part and number of pods per plant (0.68), stem diameter and mass of nodules (0.92) and first pod insertion height and number of nodules (0.64). In the path analysis, the number of grains per pod had the most significant direct effect (0.57) on the grain productivity variable. Regarding nodulation characteristics, selection for nodule mass was preferred due to its direct effect on grain yield as opposed to the number of nodules, which has a negative effect. This suggests an advantage of larger nodules with greater individual mass than a large number of small nodules for both improved yield and N fixing by common bean plants.

Clinicamente, as lesões cutâneas costumam ter crescimento rápido, agressivo, com risco de metástase, sendo mais comum na região paravertebral e nos membros inferiores. O diagnóstico definitivo é feito através do estudo anatomopatológico. Apresenta-se neste relato o caso de uma paciente de 21 anos, com tumoração em flanco direito há 2 meses, submetida a abordagens cirúrgicas em serviço de pronto atendimento, evoluindo com piora progressiva do quadro.

Abstract Extraskeletal Ewing’s sarcoma is an unusual primary tumor of the deep soft tissues. Clinically, skin lesions are usually fast-growing and aggressive, with a risk of metastasis, and are more common in the paravertebral region and lower limbs. The ultimate diagnosis is made by anatomopathological study. This report describes the case of a 21-year-old patient with a tumor on her right flank that had been present for the past 2 months. She underwent surgery in an emergency department and progressively became more ill.

RESUMO A doença renal crônica (DRC) representa um dos principais problemas de saúde pública da atualidade. A dosagem da creatinina sérica e a estimativa da taxa de filtração glomerular (TFG) são as principais ferramentas para avaliação da função renal. Para a estimativa da TFG, existem diversas equações, sendo a mais recomendada a CKD-EPI (Chronic Kidney Disease – Epidemiology). Existem ainda algumas controvérsias com relação à dosagem da creatinina sérica e da estimativa da TFG, uma vez que vários fatores podem interferir nesse processo. Uma importante mudança recente foi a retirada da correção por raça das equações para estimativa da TFG, que superestimavam a função renal, e consequentemente retardavam a implementação de tratamentos como diálise e transplante renal. ABSTRACT Chronic kidney disease (CKD) represents one of today’s main public health problems. Serum creatinine measurement and estimation of the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) are the main tools for evaluating renal function. There are several equations to estimate GFR, and CKD-EPI equation (Chronic Kidney Disease – Epidemiology) is the most recommended one. There are still some controversies regarding serum creatinine measurement and GFR estimation, since several factors can interfere in this process. An important recent change was the removal of the correction for race from the equations for estimating GFR, which overestimated kidney function, and consequently delayed the implementation of treatments such as dialysis and kidney transplantation. This paper highlights the challenges and opportunities in today’s world, especially in a post-pandemic era, dominated by infodemic and social media influencers, while providing solutions, encompassing professional training of health professionals on communication, digital skills, and an overarching strategy across health institutions. Translating knowledge into health-promoting behaviors and well-being can only be effective by accounting for communication in health literacy.

Resumo O estudo analisa o acesso ao cuidado em saúde de mulheres encarceradas no estado do Ceará, rastreando transtornos mentais comuns. Estudo analítico, transversal, de natureza quantitativa, desenvolvido na única penitenciária feminina do Ceará. Participaram 90 detentas, todas com alguma das seguintes questões de saúde: gestantes, puérperas, portadoras de hipertensão arterial sistêmica, diabetes mellitus, tuberculose, sífilis, hepatite B ou HIV/Aids. Os dados foram coletados por entrevista estruturada. Evidenciou-se acesso limitado à atenção à saúde das detentas, violando direitos básicos sob tutela do Estado. Foram constatadas limitações de exames de rastreamento de doenças nas presidiárias na ocasião de seu acesso ao cárcere, principalmente as que não se encontravam grávidas no momento do encarceramento. Houve diferenças entre as distintas condições de saúde analisadas, com prioridade da atenção às gestantes e puérperas. Entre as detentas, 68,24% apresentavam risco de transtornos mentais comuns (SRQ > 7). Houve correlação positiva entre idade e saúde mental (p = 0,0002). Embora exista legislação pertinente de garantia de acesso à saúde no cárcere, o sistema prisional está despreparado para atender às necessidades de portadoras de comorbidades, gestantes e puérperas.

Abstract This study investigated access to health care among female prisoners in the state of Ceará, Brazil, and screened for common mental disorders. We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study in the only female prison in the state. Ninety detainees participated in the study. All participants were either pregnant or postpartum women or had one or more of the following health problems: hypertension, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, syphilis, hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The findings reveal that access to health care was limited, violating the fundamental rights of the prisoners. Screening for diseases on admission to prison was limited, especially among non-pregnant women. Differences in health care were found between health conditions, with priority being given to pregnant and postpartum women. Most of the inmates (68.24%) were found to be at risk for common mental disorders (SRQ score > 7). A positive correlation was found between age and mental health problems (p = 0.0002). Despite legislation guaranteeing access to health care in prisons, the prison system is unprepared to meet the health needs of female prisoners with comorbidities and pregnant and puerperal women.

Abstract To examine the influence of Sex, age, area of residence, academic year, health behaviors, and social media use on self-esteem and psychological well-being in a sample of Portuguese university students. A descriptive, correlational, and quantitative study was conducted using a cross-sectional, quasi-experimental design. The sample comprised 194 individuals (171 female, 23 male) aged 18-57 years. Data were collected using a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and the Psychological General Well-being Index short version. The results showed a positive correlation between self-esteem and psychological well-being. Gender showed effects on both self-esteem and psychological well-being when associated with hours of sleep per day and social media use. Academic year and physical exercise practice only affected self-esteem. Age demonstrated statistically significant multivariate effects on both self-esteem and psychological well-being. No significant effects were found on self-esteem and psychological well-being for the remaining variables (area of residence, smoking habits, hours of sleep per day, social media use, and daily time spent on social networks). It is possible to conclude that self-esteem positively influences psychological well-being, and psychological well-being affects self-esteem, highlighting the importance of a healthy relationship between these constructs. In the absence of such a relationship, access to mental health and support services is necessary.

Resumo Objetivo: examinar a influência das variáveis sexo, idade, área de residência, ano de escolaridade, comportamentos de saúde e utilização de redes sociais na autoestima e no bem-estar psicológico numa amostra de estudantes universitários portugueses. Método: foi realizado um estudo descritivo, correlacional e quantitativo, com um desenho transversal e quasi-experimental. A amostra é constituída por 194 indivíduos, sendo 171 do sexo feminino e 23 do sexo masculino, com idades compreendidas entre os 18 e os 57 anos. Foram administrados um questionário sociodemográfico, a escala de Autoestima de Rosenberg e o Questionário Geral de Bem-Estar Psicológico - versão reduzida. Resultados: existe uma correlação positiva entre autoestima e bem-estar psicológico. Verificou-se que o sexo apresenta efeitos na autoestima e no bem-estar psicológico quando associado às horas de sono por dia e utilização de redes sociais. No caso do ano de escolaridade e prática de exercício físico apenas apresentou efeito na autoestima. Por sua vez, a idade apresentou efeitos multivariados estatisticamente significativos na autoestima e bem-estar psicológico. Quanto às restantes variáveis (área de residência, ano de escolaridade, prática de exercício físico, hábitos tabágicos, horas de sono por dia, utilização de redes sociais e horas passadas por dia nas redes sociais) não foram encontrados efeitos sobre a autoestima e o bem-estar psicológico. Conclusão: a autoestima exerce uma influência positiva no bem-estar psicológico e este sobre a autoestima, sendo por isso necessária uma relação saudável entre ambas, na medida em que face à sua inexistência é necessário o acesso a serviços de saúde mental e de apoio.

Resumo O estudo analisa o acesso ao cuidado em saúde de mulheres encarceradas no estado do Ceará, rastreando transtornos mentais comuns. Estudo analítico, transversal, de natureza quantitativa, desenvolvido na única penitenciária feminina do Ceará. Participaram 90 detentas, todas com alguma das seguintes questões de saúde: gestantes, puérperas, portadoras de hipertensão arterial sistêmica, diabetes mellitus, tuberculose, sífilis, hepatite B ou HIV/Aids. Os dados foram coletados por entrevista estruturada. Evidenciou-se acesso limitado à atenção à saúde das detentas, violando direitos básicos sob tutela do Estado. Foram constatadas limitações de exames de rastreamento de doenças nas presidiárias na ocasião de seu acesso ao cárcere, principalmente as que não se encontravam grávidas no momento do encarceramento. Houve diferenças entre as distintas condições de saúde analisadas, com prioridade da atenção às gestantes e puérperas. Entre as detentas, 68,24% apresentavam risco de transtornos mentais comuns (SRQ > 7). Houve correlação positiva entre idade e saúde mental (p = 0,0002). Embora exista legislação pertinente de garantia de acesso à saúde no cárcere, o sistema prisional está despreparado para atender às necessidades de portadoras de comorbidades, gestantes e puérperas. Abstract This study investigated access to health care among female prisoners in the state of Ceará, Brazil, and screened for common mental disorders. We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study in the only female prison in the state. Ninety detainees participated in the study. All participants were either pregnant or postpartum women or had one or more of the following health problems: hypertension, diabetes mellitus, tuberculosis, syphilis, hepatitis B, HIV/AIDS. The data were collected using a structured questionnaire. The findings reveal that access to health care was limited, violating the fundamental rights of the prisoners. Screening for diseases on admission to prison was limited, especially among non-pregnant women. Differences in health care were found between health conditions, with priority being given to pregnant and postpartum women. Most of the inmates (68.24%) were found to be at risk for common mental disorders (SRQ score > 7). A positive correlation was found between age and mental health problems (p = 0.0002). Despite legislation guaranteeing access to health care in prisons, the prison system is unprepared to meet the health needs of female prisoners with comorbidities and pregnant and puerperal women. Abstract Objectives: To determine and compare, retrospectively, the success rate of speech rehabilitation with voice prosthesis (VP) according to the age, radiotherapy (RT) status and total laryngectomy (TL) type: primary or salvage. Study design: By reviewing post-laryngectomy patients with voice prosthesis insertion between 2016-2022. Surgical and prosthesis complications, first prosthesis replacement and number of replacements per year were analysed. Material and Methods: Statistical analysis used t-student when there was normal distribution and Mann-Whitney when the group didn’t show normal distribution. P values <0.05 were considerer statistically significant. Results: In the groups age and type of TL, where was an absence of statistically significant difference in every variable. The post-RT group had, paradoxically, less prosthesis complications (p=0,036). Conclusion: Data had demonstrated that the benefits of a voice prosthesis protocol should not have age, salvage surgery and RT as restrictive factors.

Resumo Objectivos: Determinar e comparar, retrospetivamente, o sucesso da reabilitação vocal por PF (prótese fonatória) de acordo com a idade, status de radioterapia (RT) e tipo de LT (Laringectomia Total): primária ou resgate. Desenho do Estudo: Analisados os laringectomizados com inserção de PF entre 2016-2020. Avaliadas as complicações cirúrgicas e relacionadas com a PF, tempo até à primeira troca e número de PF/ano. Materiais e Métodos: A análise estatística usou o t-student em distribuição normal e o Mann-Whitney quando o grupo não apresentava distribuição normal. Significância estatística quando p<0,05. Resultados: Para as variáveis idade e LT não se observaram diferenças em nenhum dos grupos. Para a variável RT, não existem diferenças na taxa de complicações cirúrgicas (p=0,738), no tempo de primeira troca(p=0,267) nem em PF/ano (p=0,119). O grupo que realizou RT adjuvante revelou, paradoxalmente, menor taxa de complicações relacionadas com a PF(p=0,036). Conclusão: Demonstrou-se que os benefícios de um protocolo terapêutico orientado na reabilitação vocal por PF não devem ter a idade, a cirurgia de resgate nem a RT como factores de exclusão.

ABSTRACT Health care must respond to individual and family needs, making existing health resources available to meet citizens’ needs. People in a situation of dependence require care from family members who require specific training to perform the role of caregiver. The objective of the study was to analyze how health literacy influences the relationship between satisfaction with social support and informal caregiver burden. A cross-sectional, quantitative and descriptive-correlational study was carried out. Data collection was carried out through a questionnaire. 51 informal caregivers participated, 78.4% were women, 29.4% had a medium/low level of education, 52.9% had assumed the role of informal caregiver for five or more years. It was found that 80.4% of informal caregivers had a high level of overload, with a greater impact on those who had been providing care for around 1-2 years. Regarding the necessary help, 76.5% of informal caregivers mentioned social support for economic support and 49% support for caring for a family member. The need for nurses to implement interventions to improve caregivers’ knowledge, promote health literacy, social support and dynamics that allow informal caregivers to share experiences and achieve a healthy transition process was highlighted.

RESUMO Os cuidados de saúde devem dar resposta às necessidades individuais e familiares, disponibilizando os recursos de saúde existentes para suprir as carências dos cidadãos. As pessoas em situação de dependência requerem cuidados dos familiares, Cuidadores Informais, que necessitam de formação específica para o desempenho do papel de cuidador. O objetivo do estudo foi analisar de que forma a literacia em saúde influência a relação entre a satisfação com o suporte social e a sobrecarga do Cuidador Informal. Realizou-se um estudo transversal, quantitativo e descritivo-correlacional. A recolha de dados foi efetuada através de um questionário. Participaram 51 Cuidadores Informais, 78,4% eram mulheres, 29,4% apresentava nível médio/baixo de escolaridade, 52,9% assumiu o papel de Cuidador Informal há cinco ou mais anos. Verificou-se que 80,4% dos Cuidadores Informais apresentavam nível de sobrecarga elevado, com maior impacto nos que prestavam cuidados há cerca de 1-2 anos. Quanto às ajudas necessárias, 76,5% dos Cuidadores Informais referiram o suporte para apoio económico e 49% suporte para cuidar do familiar. Evidenciou-se necessidade de o enfermeiro implementar intervenções para melhorar os conhecimentos dos cuidadores, promover a literacia em saúde, o suporte social e dinâmicas que permitam ao Cuidador Informal partilhar experiências e alcançar um processo de transição saudável.

RESUMO: Objetivou-se avaliar o efeito da suplementação dietética de glutamina e ácido glutâmico (Gln+Glu) sobre o desempenho, a morfometria intestinal e as características de carcaça de codornas de corte. Foram utilizadas 800 aves, distribuídas em delineamento inteiramente casualizado, com cinco tratamentos (0,0; 0,2; 0,4; 0,6 e 0,8% de suplementação de Gln+Glu) e oito repetições com 20 aves por unidade experimental. Na fase de um a 21 dias, constatou-se menor (P < 0,05) consumo de ração aos níveis de 0,6 e 0,8% de Gln+Glu e menor ganho de peso ao nível 0,8% de Gln+Glu em comparação ao tratamento controle; e, pela análise de regressão, excluindo-se o tratamento controle, houve efeito linear crescente (P < 0,05) para consumo de ração na fase 22 a 42 dias de idade. Para morfometria intestinal, a suplementação de Gln+Glu apenas favoreceu o desenvolvimento vilos do íleo (P < 0,05), conferindo-lhe maior altura aos níveis de 0,2; 0,6 e 0,8% de suplementação. As características de carcaça, cortes e vísceras comestíveis das aves aos 42 dias não foram afetadas (P > 0,05) pelos níveis de suplementação de Gln+Glu. Assim, a suplementação de glutamina e ácido glutâmico influenciou o desempenho e a morfometria intestinal de codornas de corte aos 21 dias de idade, promovendo redução do consumo de ração e do ganho, associado ao aumento morfométrico do íleo; por outro lado, o desempenho das aves e as suas características de carcaça aos 42 dias não foram afetados pela suplementação dos aminoácidos. ABSTRACT: This study evaluated the effect of dietary supplementation with glutamine and glutamic acid (Gln+Glu) on performance, intestinal morphometry, and carcass characteristics of broiler quails. Eight hundred birds were used, distributed in an entirely randomized design with 20 birds per experimental unit, and given five treatments (0.0; 0.2; 0.4; 0.6; and 0.8% Gln+Glu supplementation) with eight replicates. At 1-21 days of age, lower (P < 0.05) feed intake at 0.6 and 0.8% Gln+Glu supplementation and lower weight gain at 0.8% Gln+Glu supplementation compared to the control treatment were observed. By regression analysis, excluding the control treatment, there was an increasing linear effect (P < 0.05) for feed intake at 22 to 42 days of age. For intestinal morphometry, Gln+Glu supplementation only favored the villus development of the ileum (P < 0.05), giving it greater height at 0.2, 0.6, and 0.8% supplementation. Carcass characteristics, cuts, and edible viscera of the birds at 42 days were not affected (P > 0.05) by Gln+Glu supplementation levels.
