ABSTRACT Purpose: Although Brazil has a high prevalence of retinoblastoma, there is a lack of epidemiological data on the disease. Thus, in this study, we aimed to evaluate the epidemiological profile of patients diagnosed with retinoblastoma in the ophthalmology department of a pediatric tertiary referral hospital in Ceara, Brazil. Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted by retrospectively analyzing the clinical and socioeconomic data from the medical records of pediatric patients followed-up at the hospital between 2007 and 2021. Retinoblastoma was diagnosed on the basis of a fundoscopic or histopathologic examination. Results: The data of 105 patients were included in the study, and the mean patient age at the time of diagnosis was 1.7 years. Most of the patients were women (50.5%) and hailed from rural areas (57.4%), which was associated with a higher tumor stage. Of the 150 patients, 57.1% initially presented with leukocoria. Ocular hyperemia was associated with more advanced stages of retinoblastoma (p=0.004). Bilateral involvement was observed in 25.7% of the patients and at a significantly younger age (p=0.009). The presence of retinal detachment, vascularized lesions, and vitreous seeds significantly increased the likelihood of requiring enucleation. Discussion: This study presents an epidemiological description of retinoblastoma in Brazil, which highlights the significance of early detection. Delayed diagnosis is associated with a poorer visual prognosis and higher mortality rate, particularly in patients with unilateral disease. Risk factors for a more severe disease were retinal detachment, vascularized lesions, and vitreous seeds. The correlation between histopathological features and clinical outcomes was limited. Conclusion: Further studies are required to assess the influence of ocular hyperemia, fundoscopic assessment, and histopathologic findings on the prognosis of retinoblastoma. Resumo Enquadramento: A pandemia por COVID-19 trouxe inúmeros desafios às mães de crianças e jovens até aos 18 anos de idade, pela gestão de responsabilidades a que o seu papel social se encontra inerente. Objetivo: Compreender quais são os significados e os contextos das vivências de mães portuguesas de crianças e jovens adolescentes até aos 18 anos de idade, no período de situação pandémica por COVID-19; Metodologia: Estudo qualitativo, descritivo e retrospetivo recorrendo à análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Participaram no estudo 16 mulheres, mães de crianças e jovens adolescentes até aos 18 anos de idade. Resultados: Emergiram um total de nove categorias, sendo elas - Sentimentos; Perceção de saúde; Alterações no estado de saúde; experiências marcantes; Significado das experiências; Dificuldades sentidas durante o período de situação pandémica; dificuldades sentidas na educação; dificuldades sentidas enquanto mãe e mulher e impactos na educação dos filhos. Abstract Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has posed many challenges for mothers of children and adolescents up to 18 years of age in managing the responsibilities associated with their social roles. Objective: To understand the meanings and contexts of the experiences of Portuguese mothers of children and adolescents up to 18 years of age during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methodology: Qualitative, descriptive, and retrospective study using Bardin’s content analysis. The sample consisted of 16 mothers of children and adolescents up to 18 years of age. Results: Nine categories emerged - Feelings; Perception of health; Changes in health status; Significant experiences; Meaning of experiences; Difficulties felt during the pandemic; Difficulties felt in education; Difficulties felt as a mother and wife; and Impact on children’s education. Conclusion: Most of the interviewed mothers considered the COVID-19 pandemic a significant period in their lives, giving rise to ambivalent feelings and distinct life contexts.

ABSTRACT The interaction between bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) genotypes and N-fixing microorganisms has the potential to be utilized in sustainable agricultural production. Thus, the aim of this study was to verify the effects of the interaction for growth, production and nodulation characteristics between the bacteria Rhizobium tropici and Azospirillum brasilense among different bean genotypes. The experiments were conducted in the Selvíria, Mato Grosso do Sul, Brazil, in 2018 and 2019, in randomized block design with three replicates in a 20 × 3 factorial scheme; 20 common bean genotypes were tested under three forms of inoculation (no inoculation, inoculation with R. tropici, co-inoculation of R. tropici + A. brasilense). The number of grains per pod and nodule mass had the most significant direct positive effect on grain yield. For nodulation, a positive correlation of strong magnitude was observed between mass of the aerial part and number of pods per plant (0.68), stem diameter and mass of nodules (0.92) and first pod insertion height and number of nodules (0.64). In the path analysis, the number of grains per pod had the most significant direct effect (0.57) on the grain productivity variable. Regarding nodulation characteristics, selection for nodule mass was preferred due to its direct effect on grain yield as opposed to the number of nodules, which has a negative effect. This suggests an advantage of larger nodules with greater individual mass than a large number of small nodules for both improved yield and N fixing by common bean plants.

SUMMARY: Exercise and anabolic steroids are expected to promote improvements in cardiovascular structure and reduction of visceral fat and, thus, help promote health in hyperglycemic patients. The aim of this study was to verify the influence of aerobic exercise associated with the use of steroids on cardiac structure and visceral fat in hyperglycemic Wistar rats. Methods: Thirty-two young male Wistar rats were divided into four groups: control group (n=8), control with treatment (n=8), diabetic (n=8) and diabetic with treatment (n=8). All animals were subjected to intense aerobic exercise and the animals undergoing treatment received intramuscular testosterone. Body weight, visceral fat and cardiac measurements (weight, length and width) were evaluated. The groups treated with testosterone showed a smaller than expected increase in body weight for food intake. Visceral, perirenal, retroperitoneal and epididymal fats were lower in the treated groups. Heart weight was relatively greater in the treated groups and greater width and length in the untreated groups. The proposed association of testosterone administration with aerobic exercise can provide significant benefits for the metabolism of hyperglycemic individuals.

RESUMEN: Se supone que el ejercicio y los esteroides anabólicos promuevan la mejora de la estructura cardiovascular y la reducción de la grasa visceral y, por tanto, ayuden a promover la salud en pacientes hiperglucémicos. El objetivo de este trabajo fue verificar la influencia del ejercicio aeróbico asociado al uso de esteroides sobre la estructura cardíaca y la grasa visceral en ratas Wistar hiperglucémicas. Treinta y dos ratas Wistar machos jóvenes se dividieron en cuatro grupos: grupo control (n=8), control con tratamiento (n=8), diabético (n=8) y diabético con tratamiento (n=8). Todos los animales se sometieron a ejercicio aeróbico intenso y los animales en tratamiento recibieron testosterona intramuscular. Se evaluaron el peso corporal, la grasa visceral y las medidas del corazón (peso, largo y ancho). Los grupos tratados con testosterona mostraron un aumento menor de lo esperado en el peso corporal según la ingesta dietética. Las grasas visceral, perirrenal, retroperitoneal y epididimaria fueron menores en los grupos tratados. El peso del corazón fue relativamente mayor en los grupos tratados y el mayor ancho y largo en los grupos no tratados. La asociación propuesta de la administración de testosterona con el ejercicio aeróbico puede proporcionar beneficios significativos para el metabolismo de los individuos hiperglucémicos.

RESUMO O desastre-crime do petróleo em 2019 é tido como o maior desastre ocorrido no litoral do Brasil. Considerada a primeira linha de enfrentamento de desastres no território, a gestão municipal de saúde é fundamental no processo de gestão de risco de desastre. Objetivou-se analisar a atuação de uma secretaria municipal de saúde da região metropolitana do Recife, Pernambuco, em relação ao derramamento do petróleo ocorrido em 2019. Foi realizado um estudo de caso do tipo descritivo com abordagem qualitativa. ABSTRACT The 2019 oil disaster-crime is considered the largest disaster on the Brazilian coast. Given the frontline in disaster response, the municipal health secretariat is crucial in the disaster risk management process. This study aimed to analyze the performance of a municipal health secretariat in the metropolitan region of Recife, Pernambuco, regarding the 2019 oil spill, adopting a descriptive, qualitative case study. We performed content Analysis with the IRaMuTeQ software on interviews with health managers, and the results revealed four categories: municipal management in marine care; disaster risk governance and its absence; the COVID-19 syndemic and its impacts on the rehabilitation and recovery of oil disaster-affected communities; what to do if a disaster strikes again. Abstract Introduction: Arteriovenous Malformations (AVMs) are high-flow anomalous connections between the arterial and venous systems composed of dysplastic vessels resulting from aberrant angiogenesis. They are congenital and when symptomatic they rarely manifest before adolescence. Depending on the location, size, stage and severity of the symptoms, treatment options vary from conservative management to surgical resection. We report a case of a giant arteriovenous malformation of abdominal wall (tipe IIIb of Yakes Classification) treated with surgical resection after prior attempts of scleroembolization. Clinical case: 54-year-old woman with known history of osteoarticular pathology and dyspepsia presented a mass on the left side of the abdominal wall with hard consistency, warm, slightly pulsating and tenderness to touch with several years of evolution. The mass showed infiltration of the internal and external oblique muscles sparing the transverse muscle. Clinically she presented easy fatigue with efforts. Due to the risk of abdominal wall herniation after excision of the AVM, scleroembolization was considered first-line treatment in this case. This strategy resulted in regression of the mass and symptoms improvement. Four years after the last intervention, the patient presented lesion growth, recurrence and worsening of symptoms with severe interference in the quality of life (QoL). After multidisciplinary discussion, she was proposed for complete resection of the AVM. She was first submitted to scleroembolization with Onyx of identified arterial afferents and sclerosis of the lesion nidus with 2% polidocanol. One month after she underwent successfully total resection of the AVM with the collaboration of General Surgery. Conclusion: No unified agreement exists on the best treatment of these complex high flow lesions and it is difficult to establish a comprehensive strategy given the pathology’s clinical variability, complex stratification and the risk of relapse. A case-by-case approach is needed in managing these types of lesions.

Abstract Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an autoimmune disease characterized by the production of autoantibodies directed against endogenous antigens causing various clinical manifestations, chronic inflammation and tissue damage. Although the pathophysiology of SLE remains unknown, it is recognized that genetic, epigenetic, environmental and neuroendocrine factors are involved in the development of the disease and its complications. A notable proportion of patients with SLE also present obesity, and this dysmetabolic profile can cause renal, musculoskeletal and/or respiratory deterioration, fatigue, various pathophysiological alterations and functional deterioration. In this context, precision nutrition emerges as a promising tool in the inflammatory control of SLE, especially in patients with associated obesity. Various studies demonstrate the beneficial influence of balanced dietary patterns in macronutrients with foods rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and polyphenols on the inflammatory control of SLE and the most diverse pathologies, highlighting the Mediterranean diet and plant-based diets. Finally, the intestinal microbiota may play a relevant role in this clinical scenario, since dysbiosis is associated with inflammatory processes and immune deregulation. It is believed that precision nutrition can modulate inflammatory profiles and immune dysfunctions to ensure better quality of life and metabolic well-being of SLE patients with the support of precision omics technologies.

Resumen El lupus eritematoso sistémico (LES) es una enfermedad autoinmune caracterizada por la producción de autoanticuerpos dirigidos contra antígenos endógenos causando diversas manifestaciones clínicas, inflamación crónica y daño tisular. Aunque la fisiopatología del LES sigue siendo desconocida, se reconoce que factores genéticos, epigenéticos, ambientales y neuroendocrinos están implicados en el desarrollo de la enfermedad y sus complicaciones. Una proporción notable de pacientes con LES presenta también obesidad, y este perfil dismetabólico puede producir deterioro renal, musculoesquelético y/o respiratorio, fatiga, diversas alteraciones fisiopatológicas y deterioro funcional. En este contexto, la nutrición de precisión emerge como una herramienta prometedora en el control inflamatorio del LES, especialmente en pacientes con obesidad asociada. Diversos estudios demuestran la influencia beneficiosa de patrones dietéticos equilibrados en macronutrientes con alimentos ricos en fibra, vitaminas, minerales, antioxidantes y polifenoles en el control inflamatorio del LES y de las más diversas patologías, destacando la dieta Mediterránea y las dietas basadas en plantas/vegetales. Por último, la microbiota intestinal puede tener un papel relevante en este escenario clínico, ya que la disbiosis se asocia con procesos inflamatorios y desregulación inmune. Se cree que con la nutrición de precisión se pueden modular los perfiles inflamatorios y las disfunciones inmunitarias para garantizar una mejor calidad de vida y el bienestar metabólico de los pacientes con LES con el apoyo de las tecnologías de precisión ómicas.

Abstract Introduction: Since the emergence of SARS-CoV-2, pediatric admissions from all causes have decreased. This was mainly due to a decrease in all common respiratory diseases, such as bronchiolitis and pneumonia. The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of the pandemic on pediatric admissions and diagnoses in a level II hospital. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted, including all children admitted to a Portuguese level II hospital between March 2020 and December 2021 and the homologous period 2018-2019. The number of admissions, most common diagnoses, and demographic data were analyzed. Results: A total of 2956 admissions were included. A 44.1% decrease in pediatric hospital admissions was observed with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Admissions for common communicable diseases such as acute bronchiolitis, acute gastroenteritis, varicella, and stomatitis decreased. An increase in respiratory illnesses, mainly due to respiratory syncytial virus, was observed when the pandemic restrictions ended. Conclusion: The COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on pediatric hospital admissions. Social distancing measures and the use of masks limited the transmission of common infectious diseases previously responsible for hospital admissions. Future studies are needed to understand whether the changes in respiratory virus epidemiology were transient.

Resumo Introdução: As admissões hospitalares em idade pediátrica diminuíram desde o início da pandemia de SARS-COV-2, maioritariamente devido à redução de doenças respiratórias comuns, como bronquiolite aguda e pneumonia. O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar o impacto da pandemia nos internamentos pediátricos e respetivos diagnósticos num hospital de nível II. Métodos: Análise retrospetiva dos doentes em idade pediátrica internados entre março de 2020 e dezembro de 2021 e o período homólogo de 2018-2019. Foram analisados dados demográficos, número de internamentos e diagnósticos mais comuns. Resultados: Foram analisadas 2956 admissões hospitalares. Registou-se uma redução de 44,1% no número de internamentos após o início da pandemia comparativamente ao período homólogo de 2018-2019. Verificou-se uma diminuição das admissões por doenças infeciosas, como bronquiolite aguda, gastroenterite aguda, varicela e estomatite. Com a redução das restrições impostas pela pandemia, o número de internamentos por doenças respiratórias aumentou, sobretudo devido ao vírus sincicial respiratório. Conclusões: A pandemia de COVID-19 teve um grande impacto nas admissões hospitalares em idade pediátrica. As medidas de contenção, nomeadamente o distanciamento social e o uso de máscara, levaram à diminuição da transmissão de doenças infeciosas comuns que habitualmente eram responsáveis por um grande número de internamentos. São necessários mais estudos para compreender se as mudanças na epidemiologia dos vírus respiratórios foram apenas transitórias.

Abstract Background: Mycotic aneurysm is a rare entity with rapid progression, which can be fatal without adequate treatment. The incidence of rupture is greater than that of degenerative aneurysms and is associated with a high mortality rate. Case report: We report the case of a 58-year-old man with a known history of HIV infection with good immunovirological staging, treated squamous cell carcinoma of the anal canal and chronic gastritis, who presented with a six-day history of intense back pain, malaise, fever, and chills. After examination, he was hospitalized with a clinical suspicion of acute pyelonephritis. During hospitalization, he was diagnosed with pneumonia of the right pulmonary base, infectious spondylodiscitis, and mycotic aneurysm of the abdominal aorta, which involved the visceral plaque. The microbiological workup revealed only positive blood cultures for Klebsiella pneumoniae. After a multidisciplinary discussion of the case and six weeks of antibiogram-oriented antibiotic therapy, the patient underwent an aorto-aortic interposition via left thoracophrenolaparotomy without the need to reimplant visceral vessels due to the patch configuration of the proximal anastomosis. The procedure was performed under left heart bypass. The postoperative course was uneventful, and the patient was discharged four weeks later. At 18 months follow-up, she remained asymptomatic and free of recurrence. Conclusion: In this case, it remains to be defined whether the cause of the mycotic aneurysm was hematogenous dissemination from the identified pneumonia or contiguity from the diagnosed spondylodiscitis. Given the morbidity and mortality associated with this entity, early diagnosis and adequate treatment with surgical correction and antibiotic therapy with sufficient duration and dose are important aspects for improving survival in these cases.

RESUMEN Introducción: Las pérdidas cognitivas se encuentran entre los eventos más prevalentes en la población anciana y pueden causar déficits funcionales. Entre las alternativas de prevención y tratamiento no farmacológico disponibles, el aumento de los niveles de condición física funcional se presenta como una estrategia importante que sugiere mejoras en la función física y cognitiva de los ancianos, desencadenada por la práctica de ejercicios. Objetivo: Determinar el poder predictivo de los indicadores de aptitud funcional y establecer sus puntos de corte como discriminadores del deterioro cognitivo en adultos mayores. Métodos: La muestra estuvo compuesta por 310 ancianos que respondieron un cuestionario que comprendía información sociodemográfica, hábitos de vida, hospitalización en los últimos 12 meses, presencia de comorbilidad y el Mini-Examen del Estado Mental. La condición física funcional se evaluó utilizando la fuerza de agarre manual (FAM) y las pruebas de sentarse y levantarse de una silla. Para identificar predictores de deterioro cognitivo, se adoptó el análisis de curvas Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC), con intervalo de confianza del 95% (IC95%). Posteriormente se identificaron los puntos de corte con sus respectivas sensibilidades y especificidades. Los análisis se realizaron respetando el nivel de significancia del 5%. Resultados: Se observó que algunos indicadores de aptitud funcional mostraron un Área Bajo la Curva (ABC) significativa, y la prueba de sentarse y pararse (ABC=0,72; 95%IC: 0,64-0,77) mostró los mejores resultados. Los mejores puntos de corte para el test FAM y el sit-and-stand test fueron 18,8 kgf y 8 repeticiones, respectivamente. ABSTRACT Introduction: Cognitive losses are among the most prevalent events in the elderly population and can cause functional deficits. Among the available non-drug prevention and treatment alternatives, the increase in functional fitness levels is presented as an important strategy suggesting improvements in the physical and cognitive function of the elderly triggered by exercise. Objective: To determine the predictive power of functional fitness indicators and establish their cutoff points as discriminators of cognitive impairment in the elderly. Methods: The sample comprised 310 elderly people who answered a questionnaire comprising sociodemographic information, lifestyle habits, hospitalization in the last 12 months, presence of comorbidity, and the Mini-Mental State Examination. Functional fitness was assessed using the Hand Grip Strength (HGS) and sitting and rising from a chair tests. To identify predictors of cognitive impairment, analysis of Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC) curves was adopted, with a confidence interval of 95% (95%CI). Subsequently, the cut-off points with their respective sensitivities and specificities were identified. The analyses were performed respecting the significance level of 5%. Results: It was observed that some functional fitness indicators showed significant Area Under the Curve (AUC), and the sit-and-stand test (AUC=0.72; 95%CI: 0.64-0.77) showed the best results. The best cut-off points for the HGS and sit-and-stand tests were 18,8 kgf and eight repetitions, respectively. Conclusion: The results of the present study allow us to conclude that the sit-to-stand test is moderately efficient in discriminating the presence of cognitive impairment in the elderly. RESUMO Introdução: As perdas cognitivas estão entre os eventos mais prevalentes na população idosa, podendo causar déficits funcionais. Dentre as alternativas de prevenção e tratamento não medicamentosos disponíveis, o aumento dos níveis de aptidão funcional apresenta-se como uma estratégia importante sugerindo melhorias na função física e na função cognitiva de idosos, desencadeadas através da prática de exercícios. Objetivo: Determinar o poder preditivo dos indicadores de aptidão funcional e estabelecer seus pontos de corte como discriminadores do comprometimento cognitivo em idosos. Métodos: A amostra compreendeu 310 idosos que responderam a um questionário composto por informações sociodemográficas, hábitos de vida, hospitalização nos últimos 12 meses, presença de comorbidade e o Mini-Exame do Estado Mental. A aptidão funcional foi avaliada por meio dos testes de Força de Preensão Manual (FPM) e o de sentar e levantar da cadeira. Para identificação dos preditores do comprometimento cognitivo, foi adotada a análise das curvas Receiver Operating Characteristic (ROC), com intervalo de confiança de 95% (IC95%). Posteriormente, identificaram-se os pontos de corte com as respectivas sensibilidades e especificidades. As análises foram efetuadas respeitando-se o nível de significância de 5%. Resultados: Observou-se que alguns indicadores de aptidão funcional apresentaram Área Sob a Curva (ASC) significativas, sendo que o teste de sentar e levantar da cadeira (ASC=0,72; IC95%= 0,64-0,77) apresentou os melhores resultados. Os melhores pontos de corte para o teste de FPM e o teste de sentar e levantar da cadeira foram de 18,8 kgf e 8 repetições respectivamente. Conclusão: Os resultados do presente estudo permitem concluir que o teste de sentar e levantar da cadeira apresenta moderada eficiência para discriminar a presença de comprometimento cognitivo em idosos. ABSTRACT This study aimed to analyze the actions taken by health management to deal with the criminal disaster of an oil spill off the coast of Pernambuco in 2019. It is a case study investigating the health sector’s actions in four municipalities in Pernambuco. Data was collected through interviews with 16 health department managers (municipal and state), using a semi-structured script with questions about performance, impacts, actions taken, difficulties, challenges, and lessons learned. The Collective Subject Discourse analysis revealed four thematic axes: a) managers’ perception of the impacts of the crime disaster; b) actions taken in the process of risk management of the disaster crime by the health sector; c) difficulties faced in the process of mitigating the disaster; d) evaluation of management actions during the disaster crime and future preparation. Weaknesses in health management were identified in disaster mitigation actions due to the need for more preparation of health services and professionals. The lack of instruments and coordination between the federated entities intensified the difficulties, generating calamity in the territory. This points to the need to build instruments and protocols to guide such actions in these situations so that activities can be carried out more efficiently and effectively.

RESUMO Este estudo objetivou analisar as ações desenvolvidas pela gestão de saúde no enfrentamento do desastre-crime de derramamento de petróleo na costa pernambucana em 2019. Trata-se de estudo de caso que investigou a atuação do setor saúde em quatro municípios de Pernambuco. A coleta de dados foi mediante entrevistas com 16 gestores de secretarias de saúde (municipal e estadual), utilizando roteiro semiestruturado com perguntas sobre atuação, impactos, ações desenvolvidas, dificuldades, desafios e lições aprendidas. A análise do Discurso do Sujeito Coletivo evidenciou quatro eixos temáticos: a) percepção dos gestores sobre os impactos do desastre-crime; b) ações desenvolvidas no processo de gestão de risco do desastre-crime pelo setor saúde; c) dificuldades enfrentadas no processo de mitigação do desastre; d) avaliação das ações da gestão durante o desastre-crime e preparação futura. Identificaram-se fragilidades da gestão em saúde nas ações de mitigação do desastre, resultado da falta de preparo dos serviços e dos profissionais de saúde. A falta de instrumentos e a desarticulação entre os entes federados intensificaram as dificuldades, gerando situações de calamidade no território. Isso aponta para a necessidade de construção de instrumentos e protocolos que guiem tais ações nessas situações, para que as atividades sejam desenvolvidas com mais eficiência e eficácia.

Trata-se de pesquisa exploratória e qualitativa, cuja técnica de revisão integrativa da literatura permitiu a seleção sistemática dos relatos em seis etapas. Inicialmente, a busca dos artigos através do SciELO, Periódico CAPES e Google acadêmico a partir dos termos raça, etnia, fator raça, racismo, preconceito racial, discriminação racial, relações étnico-raciais, educação profissional e tecnológica, e educação profissional, juntamente com operadores booleanos, resultou em 11.336 títulos, e, após a triagem, 11 artigos foram incluídos. Para discussão, foram utilizadas as categorias: institucionalização da Lei nº 10.639/2003 e currículo; racismo estrutural; lei das cotas; núcleo de estudos, pesquisas e extensão afro-brasileiros e indígenas; experiências pedagógicas acerca da diversidade étnico-racial; percepções dos alunos e professores acerca da diversidade étnico-racial no currículo; e a atuação dos professores para educação profissionalizante de mulheres negras. Constatou-se que há um longo percurso a se percorrer para institucionalização das Leis 10.639/03 e 11.645/08 nos currículos e nas práticas de ensino-aprendizagem da formação profissionalizante, reforçado pelas percepções negativas dos alunos e professores sobre diversidade étnico-racial nos currículos das instituições educação profissional e tecnológica, principalmente quando se trata dos cursos integrados. ABSTRACT: This study aims to analyze the scientific evidence on ethnic-racial relations education in the scope of technical professional education at the secondary level. This is an exploratory and qualitative research, whose integrative literature review technique allowed the systematic selection of reports in six stages. Initially, the search of articles through SciELO, CAPES Journal, and Google Scholar from the terms race, ethnicity, race factor, racism, racial prejudice, racial discrimination, ethnic-racial relations, professional and technological education, and professional education, along with Boolean operators, resulted in 11,336 titles, and after screening, 11 articles were included. Se trata de una investigación exploratoria y cualitativa, cuya técnica integradora de revisión bibliográfica permitió la selección sistemática de informes en seis etapas. RESUMO O desastre-crime do petróleo em 2019 é tido como o maior desastre ocorrido no litoral do Brasil. Considerada a primeira linha de enfrentamento de desastres no território, a gestão municipal de saúde é fundamental no processo de gestão de risco de desastre. Objetivou-se analisar a atuação de uma secretaria municipal de saúde da região metropolitana do Recife, Pernambuco, em relação ao derramamento do petróleo ocorrido em 2019. Foi realizado um estudo de caso do tipo descritivo com abordagem qualitativa. Foi realizada Análise de Conteúdo, com utilização do software IRaMuTeQ, das entrevistas com gestores da saúde, cujos resultados revelaram quatro categorias: gestão municipal na atenção com o mar; governança de risco de desastre e suas ausências; sindemia da covid-19 e impactos na reabilitação e recuperação das comunidades afetadas pelo desastre do petróleo; o que fazer se um desastre voltar a acontecer. No município em análise, houve a organização antecipada das ações de enfrentamento, a ausência da governança no desastre-crime e o enfoque da gestão em saúde na sindemia da covid-19, que foram apontados como dificuldades e vulnerabilidades na atuação, enquanto a educação permanente e a articulação com pescadores(as) e marisqueiras foram algumas das lições aprendidas.

ABSTRACT The 2019 oil disaster-crime is considered the largest disaster on the Brazilian coast. Given the frontline in disaster response, the municipal health secretariat is crucial in the disaster risk management process. This study aimed to analyze the performance of a municipal health secretariat in the metropolitan region of Recife, Pernambuco, regarding the 2019 oil spill, adopting a descriptive, qualitative case study. We performed content Analysis with the IRaMuTeQ software on interviews with health managers, and the results revealed four categories: municipal management in marine care; disaster risk governance and its absence; the COVID-19 syndemic and its impacts on the rehabilitation and recovery of oil disaster-affected communities; what to do if a disaster strikes again. In the municipality under study, we noted early organization of response actions, the lack of governance in the disaster-crime, and health management focus on COVID-19 syndemic, which were identified as difficulties and vulnerabilities in their actions, while continuing education and coordination with fishermen and shellfish gatherers were among the lessons learned.

BACKGROUND Leishmania tarentolae is a non-pathogenic species found in lizards representing an important model for Leishmania biology. However, several aspects of this Sauroleishmania remain unknown to explain its low level of virulence. OBJECTIVES We reported several aspects of L. tarentolae biology including glycoconjugates, proteolytic activities and metabolome composition in comparison to pathogenic species (Leishmania amazonensis, Leishmania braziliensis, Leishmania infantum and Leishmania major). METHODS Parasites were cultured for extraction and purification of lipophosphoglycan (LPG), immunofluorescence probing with anti-gp63 and resistance against complement. Parasite extracts were also tested for proteases activity and metabolome composition. FINDINGS Leishmania tarentolae does not express LPG on its surface. It expresses gp63 at lower levels compared to pathogenic species and, is highly sensitive to complement-mediated lysis. This species also lacks intracellular/extracellular activities of proteolytic enzymes. It has metabolic differences with pathogenic species, exhibiting a lower abundance of metabolites including ABC transporters, biosynthesis of unsaturated fatty acids and steroids, TCA cycle, glycine/serine/threonine metabolism, glyoxylate/dicarboxylate metabolism and pentose-phosphate pathways. MAIN CONCLUSIONS The non-pathogenic phenotype of L. tarentolae is associated with alterations in several biochemical and molecular features. ABSTRACT Inactivated COVID-19 vaccines data in immunocompromised individuals are scarce. This trial assessed the immunogenicity of two CoronaVac doses and additional BNT162b2 mRNA vaccine doses in immunocompromised (IC) and immunocompetent (H) individuals. Adults with solid organ transplant (SOT), hematopoietic stem cell transplant, cancer, inborn immunity errors or rheumatic diseases were included in the IC group. Immunocompetent adults were used as control group for comparison. Participants received two CoronaVac doses within a 28-day interval. IC received two additional BNT162b2 doses and H received a third BNT162b2 dose (booster). Blood samples were collected at baseline, 28 days after each dose, pre-booster and at the trial end. We used three serological tests to detect antibodies to SARS-CoV-2 nucleocapsid (N), trimeric spike (S), and receptor binding domain (RBD). Outcomes included seroconversion rates (SCR), geometric mean titers (GMT) and GMT ratio (GMTR). A total of 241 IC and 100 H adults participated in the study. After two CoronaVac doses, IC had lower SCR than H: anti-N, 33.3% vs 79%; anti-S, 33.8% vs 86%, and anti-RBD, 48.5% vs 85%, respectively. IC also showed lower GMT than H: anti-N, 2.3 vs 15.1; anti-S, 58.8 vs 213.2 BAU/mL; and anti-RBD, 22.4 vs 168.0 U/mL, respectively. After the 3rd and 4th BNT162b2 doses, IC had significant anti-S and anti-RBD seroconversion, but still lower than H after the 3rd dose.
