This study aimed to isolate, purify and characterize secondary metabolites present in Amburana acreana leaves, native to the state of Rondônia, using classical chromatographic methods and 1D, 2D nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. From the hydroethanolic leaves extract of A. acreana, p-hydroxybenzoic acid, vanillic acid, coumarin, campesterol 3-β-D-glucoside and amburoside B, all known compounds, were identified. This study highlights the synthesis of innovative polyurethane materials derived from Moringa oleifera oils extracted from two distinct sources. The oils were converted into their respective polyols through the in situ generated performic acid method. Diverse material characteristics were observed due to different agroclimatic and cultivation conditions for the sources. Extraction yields were 45.21% (source 1) and 40.32% (source 2), with acid values of 28.70 and 26.00 mg KOH per g of oil, respectively. Oleic acid constituted 79.87 and 67.11% of the oils composition, respectively. Nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) confirmed the hydroxylation of the oils. FTIR also identified the isocyanate structures in the synthesized polyurethane materials. Gel permeation chromatography analysis revealed a higher oligomer content in the polyol synthesized from the oil extracted from source 2. Computational predictive approaches present themselves as an attractive alternative in the search for new compounds that may present toxic or growth regulatory activity in Aedes aegypti. Aspergillus species is a producer of secondary metabolites with diverse biological activities. Compared to other species, components of Combretum lanceolatum are still with few data reported in the literature. This work describes the compounds identification, antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of C. lanceolatum twigs. Ethanolic extract (EECLT) from C. lanceolatum twigs was submitted to partition obtaining: hexane (HF), diethyl ether (EEF), ethyl acetate (EAF) and hydromethanolic (HMF) fractions. They were analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry, high performance liquid chromatography coupled to mass spectrometry and direct insertion mass spectrometry and evaluated for antioxidant assay (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method) and antimicrobial assay. Food contamination is a public health problem, and the search for natural additives to increase food stability and safety is challenging. This research aimed to study nanoemulsions produced with coriander essential oil and kefiran, an exopolysaccharide extracted from kefir grains. ABSTRACT The sorghum crop is considered one of the most important worldwide due to its versatility. However, water stress can be considered a significant threat to its yield. The search for products that mitigate water stress is a crucial area of research in agriculture and water resources management. Thus, the objective in this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using salicylic acid as a water stress attenuator in sorghum. The experiment was conducted in a screened environment in a randomized block design with a 4 × 2 factorial scheme, with four replicates. RESUMO Os modelos de balanço hídrico do solo podem ser uma boa opção para estudar o crescimento das culturas e as respostas de rendimento sob diferentes níveis de fornecimento de água. O objetivo deste estudo foi avaliar os efeitos de diferentes estratégias de irrigação na produtividade do girassol e na produtividade da água usando experimentos de campo e simulações de balanço hídrico do solo. ABSTRACT Soil water balance models can be a good option for studying crop growth and yield responses under different water supply levels. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different irrigation strategies on sunflower yield and water productivity using field experiments and soil water balance simulations. Two field experiments were performed. In 2018/19, four irrigation strategies (aimed at maintaining soil available water at 80, 70, 60, and 50% of total available water) were evaluated. In 2020/21 an irrigated and a rain-fed treatment were evaluated. The SIMDualKc model was calibrated and validated to simulate soil water balance and derive the dual coefficients using plant variables from field observations. This study investigated the removal of contaminants in water by adsorption on thermoplastic starch (TPS) and kraft lignin (KL) composites. A study on the desorption of methylene blue (MB) and methyl orange (MO) dyes in water was also carried out, followed by the photodegradation of solutions containing dissolved dyes. Initially, the surface morphology of the TPS and TPS-KL films was analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, revealing advantageous characteristics for efficient adsorption of contaminants. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) analysis made it possible to characterize the TPS and TPS-KL composites. The results demonstrate the reversibility of the process and confirm the lack of permanent chemical modification in the polymer matrix, indicating that the adsorption/desorption process is physical rather than chemical. This suggests that the adsorbent material can be reused without losing its fundamental structural properties. Furthermore, the study allows for verification of the chemical changes on the surfaces of the materials involved. Ultraviolet-visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) results show that for MO, both substrates exhibited low adsorption capacity, with efficiency values close to 20%. Esta pesquisa teve como objetivo avaliar a eficiência do óleo de candeia (Eremanthus erythropappus) bruto para melhorar a resistência da madeira de Pinus taeda aos fungos apodrecedores Rhodonia (≈Postia) placenta, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Neolentinus lepideus (podridão parda) e Pycnoporus sanguineus (podridão branca) em ensaios de apodrecimento acelerado em laboratório. ABSTRACT World demand for wood products and the shortage of good quality lumber species are exerting pressure on native forests. This study aimed to evaluate the efficiency of Eremanthus erythropappus crude oil in improving the resistance of Pinus taeda wood to Rhodonia (≈Postia) placenta, Gloeophyllum trabeum, Neolentinus lepideus (brown rot) and Pycnoporus sanguineus (white rot) in accelerated laboratory decay tests. Test samples measured 1.90 × 1.90 × 1.90 cm. Oil was applied to wood surfaces using a brush to obtain nominal retentions of 15, 30, 45, and 60 kg of oil per m3 of wood. After treatment, the samples reached average retentions of 16.25, 28.75, 41.50, and 53.75 kg m-3, respectively, and were submitted to a soil block decay test (accelerated decay test) for 12 weeks. Increased oil retention caused a decline in the mass loss of Pinus taeda wood exposed to the fungi tested. RESUMO O objetivo do trabalho foi caracterizar o índice de rendimento, o índice de rendimento de campo, a uniformidade e o ciclo de maturação de quinze genótipos de Coffea canephora cultivados em diferentes ambientes da Amazônia Ocidental. A pesquisa foi conduzida no Amazonas, em Itacoatiara e Manaus, e em Rondônia, em Porto Velho, Brasil. A interação entre genótipos x ambientes foi significativa, indicando que os clones apresentaram desempenho diferenciado entre os ambientes. A superioridade dos coeficientes genotípicos sobre aqueles de natureza ambiental sugere predominância dos efeitos genéticos na expressão dos índices de rendimento e da uniformidade de maturação. O índice de rendimento médio foi de 24,68% e o rendimento de campo de 22,57%, sendo o ambiente Itacoatiara com as maiores médias. A uniformidade de maturação de frutos teve uma média geral de 63,02%, com Porto Velho apresentando a maior uniformidade média (71,78%). A cultivar BRS1216 apresentou o melhor desempenho para os índices de rendimento e proporcionou maior ganho de seleção na média dos ambientes, apresentando adaptabilidade ampla para o índice de rendimento usual e adaptabilidade para ambientes favoráveis ao rendimento de campo. ABSTRACT This study aimed to characterize the outturn index, field outturn index, uniformity of maturity, and maturation cycle of fifteen Coffea canephora genotypes grown in different environments of the Western Amazon. Conducted in Amazonas (Itacoatiara and Manaus) and Rondônia (Porto Velho), the research evaluated the performance of ten cultivars and five promising genotypes from Embrapa. The genotype × environment interaction was significant, indicating different performance of clones across environments. Genotypic coefficients surpassed environmental ones, indicating a genetic influence on outturn indices and uniformity of maturity. The mean outturn index was 24.68%, and the field outturn index was 22.57%, with Itacoatiara having the highest mean values. The overall mean fruit uniformity of maturity was 63.02%, with Porto Velho achieving the highest mean uniformity value (71.78%). The cultivar BRS1216 exhibited the best performance for outturn indices and provided the highest gain from selection across environments, showing wide adaptability for the outturn index and adaptability to environments favorable for field outturn. Resumo A acne é uma doença crónica, inflamatória e multifatorial da unidade pilossebácea, sem mortalidade associada, mas frequentemente acompanhada de alta morbilidade física e psicológica. A metformina, um antidiabético oral que diminui a glicemia, está a ser investigada como uma opção terapêutica no tratamento de acne em adultos e adolescentes. Os autores realizaram uma revisão baseada na evidência, de acordo com a metodologia PICO, com o objetivo de avaliar se existe evidência do uso da metformina (monoterapia ou adjuvante) no tratamento de acne em adultos e adolescentes na ausência de Síndrome do Ovário Poliquístico (SOP). No fim da pesquisa, cinco artigos originais foram considerados elegíveis para a revisão. Todos os estudos selecionados mostraram uma melhoria estatisticamente significativa nas lesões de acne nos pacientes que receberam metformina. Apesar do número reduzido de artigos incluídos na revisão, os resultados sugerem que a metformina pode ser utilizada como opção terapêutica na acne, embora seja necessária mais investigação. De acordo com a evidência atual, a metformina pode ser uma opção terapêutica no tratamento da acne sem SOP, com um nível de evidência B na SORT. Este tratamento demonstrou benefícios clínicos, particularmente na acne resistente a outros tratamentos ou em casos mais severos, melhorando o número e a gravidade das lesões.

Abstract Acne is a chronic, inflammatory, multifactorial disorder of the pilosebaceous unit, with no associated mortality but often accompanied by high physical and psychological morbidity. Metformin is an antihyperglycemic drug under investigation as a therapeutic option for acne in adults and adolescents. The authors performed an evidence-based review, according to the population, intervention, control, and outcomes methodology, to assess whether there is evidence for the use of metformin (monotherapy or adjuvant) in the treatment of acne in adolescents and adults in the absence of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). At the end of the review method, five original studies were eligible for this review. All studies showed a statistically significant improvement in acne lesions in patients receiving metformin. Despite the small number of articles included in this review, results suggest that the use of metformin for the management of acne can be an option, although further investigation is required. According to the current evidence, metformin could be a therapeutic option in the treatment of acne without PCOS, with strength of recommendation taxonomy B level of evidence. SUMMARY: The anatomical structure of wood from tree species found in floodplain forests can undergo alterations due to seasonal fluctuations in water levels, potentially affecting the volume of wood available for sustainable forest management in inundated areas. Thus, this study aims to characterize the anatomical features of Hura crepitans, Ocotea cymbarum and Eschweilera albiflora, assessing whether these characteristics differ from descriptions reported in previous studies of the same species conducted in other environments. Samples were collected from six adult trees of each species in two sustainable development reserves (SDR), Mamirauá and Amanã, located in the middle Solimões region, state of Amazonas, using a non-destructive method with an increment borer. Two samples were collected from three different heights (0.30, 1.30, and 2.30 m). Microscopic descriptions of the species were determined (porosity, axial parenchyma, rays, fibers, and vessel elements). Two-way factorial ANOVA followed by Tukey’s post hoc test was used to verify the differences in the anatomical elements of the wood samples collected at the three heights. The wood of H. crepitans has diffuse porosity, a predominance of solitary vessels, diffuse-in-aggregates, scarce axial parenchyma, non-storied rays, and libriform fibers. The wood of O. cymbarum has solitary vessels in radial multiples, vasicentric axial parenchyma, non-storied rays, and septate fibers. E. albiflora has a radial grouping of vessels, banded parenchyma, and non-storied rays. This study confirms previous descriptions of this species, revealing that its anatomical characteristics remain constant throughout the trunk.

RESUMEN: La estructura anatómica de la madera de las especies de árboles que se encuentran en los bosques de llanuras aluviales puede sufrir alteraciones debido a las fluctuaciones estacionales en los niveles de agua, afectando potencialmente el volumen de madera disponible para el manejo forestal sostenible de las áreas inundadas. Así, este estudio tiene como objetivo caracterizar las características anatómicas de Hura crepitans, Ocotea cymbarum y Eschweilera albiflora, evaluando si estas características difieren de las descripciones reportadas en estudios previos de las mismas especies realizados en otros ambientes. Se recolectaron muestras de seis árboles adultos de cada especie en dos reservas de desarrollo sustentable (RDS), Mamirauá y Amanã, ubicadas en la región media de Solimões, estado de Amazonas, utilizando un método no destructivo con barrenador incremental. Se tomaron dos muestras en cada una de tres alturas diferentes (0,30, 1,30 y 2,30 m). Se determinaron descripciones microscópicas de las especies (porosidad, parénquima axial, radios, fibras y elementos de los vasos). Se utilizó ANOVA factorial de dos vías seguido de la prueba post hoc de Tukey para verificar las diferencias en los elementos anatómicos de las muestras de madera recolectadas en las tres alturas. La madera de H. crepitans tiene porosidad difusa, predominio de vasos solitarios, difusos en agregados y escaso parénquima axial, radios no estratificados y fibras libriformes. La madera de O. cymbarum tiene vasos solitarios en múltiplos radiales, parénquima axial vasicéntrico, radios sin pisos y fibras septadas. La madera de E. albiflora tiene agrupaciones radiales de vasos, parénquima bandeado y radios sin pisos. O objetivo deste trabalho foi determinar o volume de calda e espectro de gotas para aplicação do herbicida fomesafen, bem como a eficácia no controle de picão-preto (Bidens pilosa) e corda-de-viola (Ipomoea triloba). O herbicida foi aplicado utilizando pulverizador pressurizado por CO2, com pontas TT11002 espaçadas de 0,50 m, operando nas pressões de 100 kPa (gotas muito grossas) e 400 kPa (gotas médias) nos volumes de calda de 35, 70, 140 e 280 L ha-1, obtidos por meio da variação na velocidade de aplicação. ABSTRACT Among weed control methods, chemical control using herbicides is one of the most widely employed due to its practicality and efficiency. However, there is still a lack of reliable information regarding the effectiveness of low-volume spraying and the droplet spectrum for contact herbicides, such as fomesafen. The objective was to determine the spray volume and droplet spectrum for applying the fomesafen herbicide and its efficacy in controlling hairy beggarticks (Bidens pilosa) and littlebell (Ipomoea triloba). The herbicide was applied using a CO2-pressurized knapsack sprayer with TT11002 spray tip spaced at 0.50 m, operating at pressures of 100 kPa (very coarse droplets) and 400 kPa (medium-sized droplets) with spray volumes of 35, 70, 140, and 280 L ha-1, obtained by varying the application speed. Portanto, o presente estudo teve como objetivo identificar a tolerância à salinidade e caracterizar as respostas espectrais foliares de espécies ornamentais herbáceas na fase de produção de mudas para comercialização. O experimento foi realizado no período de dezembro de 2020 a fevereiro de 2021, em casa de vegetação, em Fortaleza - Ceará, Brasil. ABSTRACT Studies on using brackish water for the irrigation of ornamental species are still scarce, mainly considering qualitative aspects of the plants. Therefore, the present study aimed to identify salt tolerance and characterize leaf spectral responses of herbaceous ornamental species at the stage of commercial seedling production. The research was carried out from December 2020 to February 2021, under greenhouse conditions, in Fortaleza - Ceará, Brazil.
